I don’t have any pictures, unfortunately, but I worked with rats for a behaviorism lab class at my university for about two months, and twice a week you had to weigh your rat to monitor for health issues etc. Rats do not like being weighed and also we didn’t use a digital scale, so to do this, you essentially had to gently stuff your rodent friend in a little metal box fitted with a lid while they screamed and glared at you out of the air holes (and also skittered around in there and made it hard to get a read on the balance)

You guys ever think about how much harder Peter's character would hit if he was a girl. How much more engaging his story would be..

Like, ostracized from the marauders since day fucking one because she's the only girl. Rumors are always flying that she's only in the group because one of the boy's is in love with her or something. And then as the get older, the rumors get worse. Nobody treats her like a real member of the group, a real person, not even her fellow marauders at times.

She was childhood best friends with James. Back when gender meant nothing, and picking flowers and catching bugs were treated equal. Hogwarts came along, and she was naive enough to believe nothing would change. But suddenly he's so far ahead. Shes so far behind. Below. Why does he even hang on to her anymore? And she's jealous, and bitter, and possessive, because everyone in her life is better than her. And she's too far behind to play the game fairly and win. Did anyone ever even let her play the game fairly in the first place?

Everyone's playing the game better than her. Not only does she have to compete with the girls, who are all prettier, and smarter, and cooler, and so unrelatable to her they might as well have been aliens. (Why were they so foreign?) No, she also has to compete with her fellow marauders. She has to fight tooth and claw everyday against the stereotypes. Try to be something more than normal the way women have to be. Try to better. Tries to be equal to the boys, but she really is just a dumb girl. She can never win against the men in her life, and none of the women ever tried to understand her. So here she is. A husk of a girl with her dead, colorless hair. She only ever liked asking silly questions and catching grasshoppers in the backyard. Why does nobody care about her anymore? Was it something she did, or was she screwed from birth?

The blood from her birth painted a girl. Her mother wanted a son. She was surrounded by her boy cousins, and a bitter mother, and James - the ray of sunshine - taught her laughter and lightness. But a boy came along and whisked James away with his stupid pureblood face and - well, it's fine. It's not like she ever had a crush on James, despite all the awful rumors, but God. He was hers, wasn't he? Hadn't she finally had something. But over the years she loses more and more. Everyone took it away from her. Was it always going to be like this? Born a bloody girl, mother begging for a boy. And died a bloodied woman, kneeling to a man.

And maybe it was taught - but what if it was earned? Maybe she was too slow, and everyone left her behind. Maybe she was too dumb, and everyone surpassed her. Maybe she was too disappointing to be a woman. Maybe she was too weak to be a man. Maybe she was only ever a coward. But a coward that killed the sun. Maybe the only thing she could ever beat James at was life.

❥I know people have written about how he gets jealous…but I don’t really think he does? Or at least not terribly. The scene with Mr. Chopped and the cat ears show that Mr. Crawling won’t pout or get sad at you showing affection to others, just that he wants to gain the same attention (the ear scene…). So jealousy with Mr. Crawling isn’t too bad, just be prepared to shower him with more affection than the person you originally did. 

❥On the other hand, I do think his jealousy may increase if you ignore him. Say you give more attention to Mr. Scarletella, Mr. Crawling would get a bit sad and pouty, thinking you don’t like him anymore. If this happens, give him lots and lots of attention and reassurance, he’ll be super grateful. I mean he loves your affection anyways, so might as well give him some extra headpats and kisses. Even better if you only show certain signs of affection with him, it makes him feel special. 

❥Overall, not the most jealous, but not completely unaffected either. Make sure he gets his daily dose of attention/quality time and he’ll be as right as rain.

❥Uh, he gets more jealous than you’d think. Like…his whole thing is he wants to be special to you…in his own strange way. Doesn’t like the thought of someone taking his place as a jokester to you. Also why he brings you things he’d think you like from time to time, just to make sure you still have that special place in your heart for him <3

❥Hates hate hates when you call him bad or not good. He’s good! He swears! Remember how he’s helped you before! Gets all frowny when you call him not good and then call someone else good. He’s good too! Guess he has to prove it, AGAIN. It’s honestly kind of endearing how he has no clue how he actually kind of does like you? But not exactly in a romantic way? It’s honestly hard to label his feelings towards you, so why should I?

❥I’d say he’s the second most jealous in this list of characters, watching on angrily as you praise someone that isn’t him. Be prepared for magazines and books galore when he’s in this mood, trying to prove his worth to you. Kind of strange for someone to try so hard when they claim to not like you…

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ Mr. Silvair

❥Definitely the chillest one here. Doesn’t really get jealous at all :/ If anything, he finds it entertaining when you’re affectionate with others. Gives him more insight to his lab rats. Yes, he sees everyone as a lab rat. Idk, I can’t really see him get jealous.

❥Maybe…MAYBE if someone else tries doing research on you, or if Ms. Nurse treats you instead he’ll feel a bit off. Like…you’re his test subject, he knows you from the inside out…literally and not in the fun sense. Why would you go to someone who doesn’t know as much about you and how this world affects you? It’s very hard to spot his jealousy, doesn’t even notice it/recognize it himself. He just doesn’t want anyone to mess up his data…that’s all…totally.

❥In conclusion, not really jealous. Doesn’t feel like he needs to be. You’re ‘friends’, doctor and patient, mad scientist and lab rat not many others threaten that balance between you. 

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ Mr. Chopped

❥Honestly…Mr. Chopped I’m kinda mixed on how he’d be. Like on one hand, I could totally see him getting jealous if you call others cute or pay too much attention to them. On the other…he could probably care less. He loves himself, you love him, why does he need to get jealous? It’s clear how much you like him with the way you pamper him. I mean we get so many examples where you’re affectionate to Mr. Crawling in front of Mr. Chopped and he doesn’t really bat an eye. 

❥Now, I can see if he gets a bit insecure he might get more jealous. Whether it be because Mr. Crawling pats your head or tucks you into bed, Mr. Chopped feels a bit sad. He’d like to tuck you in, you look so comfy. Might be just a bit pouty, eyeing you like a dissatisfied cat. Easily rectified with head pats or even cuddles. Gets side tracked from his jealousy as soon as you give him a sliver of attention honestly.

❥Mr. Chopped is fifty fifty when it comes to jealousy, but it’s never too bad. He’s pretty comfortable with what you both have and doesn’t really feel threatened by others. After all, you did call him cute.

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ Mr. Hugeface

❥I wouldn’t say he gets jealous? More possessive than anything. Like that scene when Mr. Machete stumbles into his little makeshift dollhouse that he made for you and gets all angry that he’s there. It’s more of a ‘you’re not supposed to be here, this is our playtime’ more than actual jealousy. Throws a little fit whenever someone messes up your playtime. Very accusatory lmao.

❥Does not like when you try to escape. Was he not providing enough for you? Were you unhappy? You’re not allowed to leave! You’re his cute human! He can’t just find another one y’know. Mr. Hugeface may be lenient if he sees you happier, you need enrichment after all. Feels extra happy if you come back on your own violation. 

❥The most childish out of all the characters on this list. Isn’t afraid to throw tantrums, will also punish you by putting you in a solid concrete cube if he’s really upset. Yeah…not the most healthy of relationships to have…BUT! I do think you could convince him to be a bit better…? Maybe? Only if you put enough work in communicating with him though. Maybe punish him in your own way like leaving for longer if he threatens to trap you.

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ Mr. Scarletella

❥Uhhhhhhhhhhh. Top of the list when it comes to jealousy. Watches your every move with curiosity and spite. Why are you doing that to Mr. Crawling? Do it to him instead. Why do you look so happy braiding Mr. Chopped’s hair? Style his hair instead. Why are you looking so fondly amused at Mr. Gap? Don’t you find him amusing? You do like him, right? He likes you. He likes you a lot, and he thought he was enough…was he not?

❥Will stare through your skull. It is so intimidating. His smile? Strained, it makes your skin crawl. You have to make sure he doesn’t hurt your friends, he’s so close to snapping, but he knows that would upset you and that’s not his goal. So instead he stands ominously in the background, body staticing in and out while his hand clenches the handle of his umbrella. 

❥Not that easily mended. Likes to monopolize all your time and affection. Needs constant reassurance as well, he’s quite needy. If you like constant validation and no social life go for it, just don’t get too upset if he threatens your other monster friends…he can’t stand that you could like someone that wasn’t him.

i would make a point about how people who are happy they got it will feel very different in 20 years when 20 years of gradual accumulation of nutritional deficiencies merges with the reality of an ageing body that is further limited to absorb nutrients catches up to them

I mean generally speaking I feel like the Federation (not the workers but the higher ups) basically view ALL the residents as interesting specimens for their experiments. Some of them can be taught to do tricks and be helpful but they're not considered People by the Federation. They can be trapped and experimented on or tamed and herded or trained, because they're basically just lab rats.

That's the vibe I get anyway.

So yeah maybe they do like birds. Maybe they like keeping the parrot* as a trained pet and the duck(s?) for experimentation... and as for the crow? idk, maybe they just like to toy with him. Still not sure what they actually want with him, if they even want anything in particular.

AITA for intentionally putting my crush in dangerous situations for fun?

I (M18) work at an amusement park in a theater troupe, where I handle all the animatronics and special effects. Not to brag, but I’m pretty good at what I do, and I’m always trying to push the limits of what’s possible. Speaking of which….. there’s this guy (M18, we’ll call him T)…. and I’m kind of obsessed with him. He’s the leader of the troupe and also an incredible actor, but he has… idk how to say this without sounding insane, but he’s very torment-able. He’s got super over the top reactions to everything, and something about him just makes me want to put him in situations. If he was a lab rat, i’d be creating torture mazes for him everyday. Not out of malice!!! I just like him <3. I’m also very careful not to actually put him in danger, but I think he likes the thrill. In the past, I’ve built animatronic zombies to chase after him, put him in a canon, MAYBE Ive made a few bombs…. Its fine! My friend and fellow troupe member (F17) says that this is concerning and that we should “get a room” (???) but I think it’s fine?? She called it “psychosexual behavior”… and MAYBE I like him a little, but I don’t think that’s why I do it?? (Maybe it is though, I’ll have to think on that.) FWIW, my other friends think it’s fine, but one doesn’t have the greatest judgement (her hearts in the right place <3) and the others are in a pocket dimension where the rules of physics don’t really work the same (don’t ask)

The hero grinned when they felt the hand around their throat.

It was pitch black in the hero’s bedroom — it had to be or else the hero couldn’t even close their eyes. Often they felt like a trained animal, a lab rat that had been drilled to only fall asleep when there was no light. A silly thought but they believed their wounds could heal better in the darkness. Maybe that was just them trying to deal with the physical trauma.

Deep sleep was a rarity for them anyway.

“You shouldn’t leave your window open.” The villain’s warm breath hit the hero’s lips and for a second, the hero debated if they should just go in for a kiss. But, no.

“You shouldn’t try to assassinate me all the time,” the hero whispered. They knew the villain wasn’t that far away. “Especially with your bare hands. It does things to me.”

God, the villain could be such a little pest. At this point, this was beyond obsession, this was beyond the little cat-and-mouse-games, this was beyond a work relationship. Being close to the villain was like breathing in the thick air of fog, lingering, begging to be noticed, heavy somehow and above all drenching the hero.

It drove the hero insane. The villain was a tease, for sure, and a mean one at that.

Flirting hard enough for the hero to be close to losing their balance. No one had ever dared to question the hero, no one had ever dared to be on their level and yet, the villain was clever and dangerous.

A month ago, they had broken the hero’s arm without hesitation and right now, they could squeeze and squeeze until the hero’s neck cracked. It was thrilling, it was a challenge and power was exactly what the hero was thirsty for.

“All of your assassination attempts end poorly. Time for another job?” the hero added. They had the tiny suspicion that the villain was hesitating — just like them — when it came to the fulfilment of their true desires.

“Do you want me to break your bones again?” the villain asked. “I don’t think you liked that.”

Oh, how wrong they were about that.

“Then end this.”

“As if I didn’t notice the dagger.” The villain shifted and the hero was truly impressed. Without seeing it, the villain was aware of it. Relying on their senses that well…The villain’s free hand found the hero’s wrist and they closed around it, leaning into the blade as if to demonstrate how little they cared about it.

They leaned over, lips against the hero’s neck.

“I usually kill my targets on my first try. But you’ve survived for months now…” They felt the villain’s smirk against their neck and the grip around the hero’s throat softened. The hero’s dagger stayed where it was. “You’re truly remarkable.”

“Oh, darling,” the hero answered, “you’re not supposed to say those things to me.”

��Who else is gonna say this?” And then, the villain’s lips were on the hero’s neck, warm and wet as their tongue followed. The hero closed their eyes and tried to get their self-control back. Hell, the other hand was still around the hero’s, going up and down their forearm.

The villain was — surprisingly — a little shy. They hesitated, were slow and careful, not even paying any attention to the dagger.

“Take your clothes off,” the hero said. Their voice was low and controlled, as if they were giving a command at work. “Now.”

“Shit…” The hero felt them move, felt the absence of their body and loathed it. They discarded their dagger on the nightstand, in case they needed it.

“Wait.” The hero grabbed blindly into the dark and caught fabric. They pulled the villain — who groaned — down and searched for the zipper of their suit. “Let me help you.”

They found it quickly and pulled it down until there was resistance.

“God, you’re a menace,” the villain laughed.

“Oh, you have no idea.” The hero knew exactly where to pull and where to push and their knowledge was, in fact, very useful as they turned the villain around. They seated themselves on top and finally decided to turn on the light on the nightstand.

All they could think was holy fuck when they saw the villain under them. Because the villain was strong and determined. They were smart and stubborn.

And they were under the hero right now, basically drooling.

Their suit was pulled down until right above their hips.

“I have neighbours,” the hero said, as if that wasn’t obvious. “So, you better be quiet.”

“I’m never quiet.” The hero pushed their hips deeper into the villain’s, making the other gasp.

“I’ll gag you if I have to.” The hero drew a line from the villain’s chin, all the way over their chest and down to their hips. The villain squirmed a little.

However, the hero realised as soon as they kissed their enemy how cocky the other was. They truly were a pain in the hero’s ass: letting out high-pitched moans just to tease them.

Unfortunately, the hero couldn’t think of anything that could work as a gag to silence the villain.

Fortunately, as the night progressed and they got more frustrated, they pushed their fingers into the mouth of the (surprised, yet oddly satisfied) villain. Watching their eyes roll back into their head gave the hero a random burst of energy and they knew being rough was the only option.

They had no choice but to be mean.
