Does anyone know of any really good Harry Potter fics that flesh out the Wizarding World?
And I don't mean in a "muggle-fie" it way or "let's go to America, where they aren't backwards and the wizard world is basically the muggle one just with magic!", I mean really flesh it out. Add depth to why things are done, what magic is, how THEIR world works, politics, YES even things that add in family magic or ancient houses, inter-species relations, all the things. Because, I want to see those differences, and maybe add more conflict between purebloods and muggleborns other than just the blood-purity reasons, but cultural ones as well. I feel like it was just a missed opportunity to dive into world building.
Like, ya'll don't understand how CLOSE I am to attempting to write a Harry Potter fic but I don't have the time and I already have WIPS for MLB and Descendants, some of which I really need to update, I should not be adding more to my plate XD
Anyways, if anyone does (which, thank you in advance), general fics are welcome. Ship wise, kinda obsessed with Harmony, but will read canon ships or Harry/Luna. Won't read explicit, but will read mature depending on why its mature

Does anyone else take those pieces of media that you like a lot but hate the creator to the point where you don't interact with the media anymore and just start taking what you remember of the media and making it your own? Like adding characters and concepts and removing things you don't like until what you end up with is almost entirely different? But like not in a normal writing fanfic way, like in a way where you simultaneously called cps on them, are cps, and got custody of the child
Honestly. Best way to disrespect a creator you hate imo. Just take something they made and be like 'nah this is better (turns your queerphobic story into a story about queer people being extremely queer and found family)' and then completely ignore the original in favor of this random story you like so much more that you made in your brain in like 2 months
This is still good to do for a story that you think would be better if it was altered or want to tamper with or experiment. But it is made infinitely better if you do it out of spite and then end up adoring your version way more than you ever liked the original.

Said it in the tags of another post, but I hate, really hate, those posts that are like "we shouldn't explore the ocean there are Scary Things down there uwu", yes, we should not let random rich tourists tour historical tragedy sites in shoddily made submarines, but ocean exploration by scientists using proper tools and attitudes is vital to understanding our planet and expanding our knowledge about the world, not to mention very, very cool
Even if it's a joke, to me it's just plain anti-intellectualism disguised as a joke, like "I don't care about this stuff and neither should you" well guess what, I care, lots of people do and they dedicate their lives to understanding how our world works
why are you afraid of the unknown? cringe and fail hp lovecraft ass thinking.

i’n the one who needs to know your headcannons pleaseee, what do you think are the differences between dating fred and george? i love them both and honestly i’m more of a fred girly but george too is something to me. thank uu
a rose for you 🌹
So I have a few off the top of my head, this is just a few of them and I’m so willing to get into more specifics of them or tweak some of these if yall don’t agree.
I think George is a little more reserved than Fred. He’d prefer a night in over a party with his s/o. Not all the time, he does enjoy a good night out every so often, but maybe like three times a month he wants to stay in. He also will avoid being the complete center of attention, usually lets Fred do all the talking, he’s not introverted by any means tho.
Neither of the twins are introverted. But Fred is more extroverted than George. Fred is willing to go up to his crush and ask them out. George can talk to his crush, but he would rather see if it will come naturally than ask outrigh, see if there’s a connection and get to know them.
Fred is so useless with Muggle technology it is actually insane. Give him an iPhone and some AirPods and be entertained. George is a little less helpless, still baffled by it but is willing to understand it more. George puts on an effort if you are muggle born to know your world, while Fred sees magic as a better solution. Still both use magic as a crutch.
HOWEVER, Fred would be so tiktok addicted. Does he understand it? No. Does he spend most of his time scrolling? Yes. Cares deeply about his streaks.
I think Fred is a bit oblivious to things. Doesn’t realize his actions have consequences, so he might say something rude and not realize he shouldn’t have. If something he did or said made you upset he does apologize and tries to do better in the future.
George is careful with his words, he doesn’t accidentally say anything rude. Which can often mean, if he does anything rude he usually meant it.
George is organized chaos, yes his office is a mess but at least he knows where everything is. He has a system and it works for him. But he knows how to tidy things up.
Fred is just messy. Leaves things in random spots, never knows where. He needs AirTags for almost everything but he is stubborn and swears he knows where he put it.
I feel like both the twins are quite independent. They love their mom and dad, but they aren’t a mommas boy or anything like that. They have so many siblings that they kinda just have each other to ask for advice.
BOTH WOULD DATE WEIRD GIRLS/BOYS. Like during their time at hogwarts they were popular, but once they are adults they would love to have a weird partner. Fred would probably really like a more goth/alt/emo partner, like sure put the 7 hour fnaf deep dive on babe. While George would love a whimsigoth crystal partner, like sure let’s get the 4 foot tall amethyst statue.
I think Fred is more open with the type of people he dates, he’s adventurous with who he dates. If he thinks you are hot, he’s gonna wanna try.
I think George is a little more reserved about who he dates. Probably not into party girls, but likes someone who he can relax with.

It's always frustrating to me when I see people's misunderstandings about the degree to which a writer's words and writing choices are intentional. There are many types of writing and some people may be writing for fun or whatever, but in a story that is complex and carefully put together, the writer's choices are not coincidences or things that just so happen to be that way, they are carefully and precisely made choices that are designed that way to communicate something to the reader.
Surprisingly often I will see people write these complex and meaningful HP analyses, and then end their post with 'but I'm sure Rowling didn't mean any of that, or even think about it, she just wrote it this way because she's stupid.' All of that was somehow magically in the text for you to find and analyze, and she didn't even mean to write it? EVERY word of these books was typed by a human hand and reread with human eyes.
Think of how for example people will say foolish things like 'Did JKR just forget that Bellatrix was married?' Bellatrix being married is a HUGE part of who she is, who Voldemort is, how the DEs function, how the traditional pureblood families and marriages and culture function... You're missing SO MUCH of the meaning in the text by denying the writer's intentionality.
Same with things like mistaking her world-building for being statements of her real-world beliefs. 'Here's an in-depth analysis of what the text implies about gender and sexism in pureblood culture... but JKR probably just wrote all this because she's sexist, and I magically put meaning into it that makes perfect sense' ??? The idea that a writer will only write sexism into their fictional world because they're communicating that they think sexism is good is insanity. Characters don't do things solely because their writer thinks that is proper behavior. Characters' behaviors or words, or elements of the fictional world the story exists in, are not straight-forward statements of what the writer thinks is good or ideal, and in fact are often the opposite. If you can't analyze things with such complexity, that's a problem with your reading comprehension, not with the text.
Or, when people will treat the text too much like it's a real life event that happened, rather than something that was carefully put together by hand to mean something. I love analyzing characters and the HP world like they're real, but when you find yourself denying meaning by using logic like 'well it probably just happened that way for no deeper reason' you're just misunderstanding what fiction is.
For example attempting to disprove the numerous hints at the Bellatrix/Voldemort relationship by saying things like 'but other people call her Bella so it could have meant anything' or 'there are other types of pleasure than sexual so it could have meant anything.' But why would Rowling choose that word? And put it right next to Bellatrix longing for his physical closeness? And why would she set up this exchange at all? Why 'lover'? Why 'lover' placed so directly with physical closeness and care? Why 'lover' and 'pleasure' and 'longing' and 'closeness' in the same book? Why have Harry point out that she's acting in an intimate way that invokes being lovers? Why do other characters later use 'Bella,' if not to communicate that it's used by people she considers/ed family?
When everything that 'could mean anything' all lead to the same answer, why is that? Why are you assuming Rowling's implications are for some reason unintentional? Unintentional over and over and over again? If many readers are catching it, why are you assuming she's not smart enough to catch it herself? The only person not catching it here is you. Word choices or words with clear connotations are not random or accidents or coincidences, particularly when several of them occur in quick succession or when it's associated repeatedly with the same two characters. Nor are characterizations or patterns in the text. If you read that way, that's a misunderstanding on your end (not with the author, not with other readers) so don't complain when you can't understand the text. 'I'm going to act like the person who wrote this is stupid, and therefore ignore everything that the text is saying, and then say the text sucks' is YOU being an idiot. Notice how other people don't have this issue when they analyze actual meaning and intentionality in the text

i spend so much energy trying to make/find fun creative things to add to my scripts and i’m not gonna gatekeep, so here’s some of the funniest/weirdest/lowkey best things i’ve added to any of my scripts (that I haven’t talked much about before):
-I can always find things I need.
-Santa is real
-People just??? trust me??? I could genuinely tell someone that world war two was between the australians and canadians and they’d just be like yeah that checks out
-I don’t have allergies bc i hate sneezing
-Every pair of shoes I own are comfy as hell
-My hair can’t get knotted/tangled
-no periods because f that for real
-I always win/I’m naturally good at card and board games.
-Babies/Animals like me and will stop crying/whining/etc. when i’m around.
-cigarettes taste good and aren’t bad for you. i wanna be lana del rey coded so bad i guess
-i will literally never be in a situation where i have to kill someone. (useful for more dangerous drs!!!)
-random beef with the funniest character imaginable. hp dr? me and susan bones are arch enemies. fame dr? me and pete davidson indirect tweet each other all the time complaining. avengers dr? me and the ancient one are fist fighting in the mirror dimension idc
-indestructible things. i am clumsy and stupid i need this in every dr.
-pages don’t rip out of notebooks on accident (this has been the bane of my existence since 9 years old)
-I always have a hair tie when i need one. because you think you won’t need one, and then the second you don’t have it, you need it.
-people don’t smell. lifesaver.
-*random character* knows i shifted but can’t do a goddamn thing about it/doesn’t care and just goes with it. my favorite examples are Shane Dawson (fame dr) and Professor Trelawny (HP dr)
-i can’t get hurt in stupid ways (stubbing toe, tripping, etc.)
-if someone tries to shoot me the gun will literally fly out of their hand lmao (again, useful for dangerous drs)
-i know everyone’s phone passwords
-infinite toilet paper (for dystopia/woods/etc. drs, but could just be useful every day tbh.)
-i’ve always got some kind of out of pocket one liner for when the situation is too awkward
-tattoos don’t hurt (i am a pussy)
-adding random side characters/completely new mfers to my scripts because if i’m constantly around these fine ass bitches i know everything about i might actually have a heart attack
-when someone’s mean to me they get some form of karma in the next 24 hours directly related to how mean they were. call me stupid? enjoy tripping up the stairs. push me over? i hope you enjoy biting into a sandwich only to find the bread is moldy.
there’s probably more but this is just a short list of the first ones i could think of

Top Lily variants? I've seen so many "[random hp character #10] variants" online, with various degrees of accuracy, but I don't remember ever seeing one for lily. Your Jily ones were so accurate (the only pair I'm not super familiar with was peraltiago, and I know enough about them to know they fit), so I was curious if you had any just for her as a character. You basically wrote the Lily (& Jily) gospel so I trust your takes <3
*cracks knuckles*
I'm about to give you a full detailed dive into Lily's character and personality that you absolutely did not ask for. I’d have to say the ones I had already picked for Jily variants (since I always look for couples where they both have James/Lily’s personalities). I’ll try and make it to ten but there’s only so many characters that truly fit Lily for me. Mostly the characters that I see as Lily, are sarcastic, witty, overachievers, intelligent, charismatic, and snarky…
Amy Santiago (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
Tumblr media
I know you said you haven’t seen it, but TRUST ME. Amy is a control freak know it all, she finds comfort in order and structure. Although she’s a bit more uptight than I imagine Lily to be. Her constant need for reassurance and approval from figures of authority is something I can definitely see in Lily. Her relationship with Holt is kinda what I imagine Lily to be like with Minerva/Alastor. Also, the fact that she is deeply loyal (as most characters in this list).
Over the course of the show she loses up a bit, and learns to have more fun and I think this could be applied to Lily in her Hogwarts years. Lily being a muggleborn is a very VERY important part of her character, as well as her morals and political standing with blood purity.
We can draw certain parallels between her and Hermione (overachievers, Head Girls, prefects), you don’t get those badges by simply passing by through school. So from this we can deduce that Lily was an excellent student that focused on exceeding at school, because there’s an extra need to prove herself among not just her teachers but her peers as well. To make them see that she’s just as much magic as they are.
So, like Amy, she's constantly trying to prove that she is smart and qualified (Amy in a field mostly male, Lily in a world mostly pureblood).
Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson)
Tumblr media
Annabeth too is a smart character that wants approval —in this case, from her mother—. She is more arrogant and snarky, a little sharper around the edges, which is so Lily!!
Her upbringing has made her become more guarded with her feelings and who she puts her trust in, also her reluctance to accept Luke’s betrayal. These are things that I see in Lily’s canon descriptions and appearances. From growing up with a sister that does not accept her and being betrayed by her best friend. In canon, after SWM (Snape’s Worst Memory), when Snape camps outside her common room waiting for her to ask her for her forgiveness she says that she has been making excuses on his behalf for a while. A lot of people call Lily a hypocrite for only ending her friendship with Snape after she was personally affected by his views, but personally I think that’s part of what makes her such an interesting character.
She’s at war with herself, not really there or here, having to be in the middle of two worlds that do not fully accept her (Annabeth with her father and Camp Half Blood/ Lily with the muggle and wizarding world). And after losing one of the people connecting her to a place of security (Thalia/Petunia), she refuses to see that the last person connecting her to that safe place is also going to leave her to join a side of the war opposite to hers (Luke/Snape).
Kate Sharma/Sheffield (Bridgerton TV/Books)
Tumblr media
Kate is funny, closed off and witty. She rushes to judge people and decide for herself whether they are worthy of her time or not, sometimes without even bothering to actually know them. Sometimes (specifically in the books), she’s so ridiculous and funny, not really forcing herself to fit in societal norms, which is something I can definitely see in Lily.
Also, her on the show with Anthony in S3, is just how I imagine married Jily, just perfect.
Dana Scully (The X Files)
Tumblr media
In Dana I see Lily’s fierce loyalty and sense of right and wrong. The hiding of her emotions, and also how determined she is, that even though she wants to believe she doesn’t, not even after seeing hundreds of crazy things happen in front of her, she still clings to her own truth.
Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)/Cinderella (1950)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tiana and Cinderella remind me of Lily in the sense of a hardworking woman, also really headstrong and married to her own way of thinking. A shell hard to break, because of all the walls she’s put up in order to survive. Like Lily, Tiana doesn’t take kindly to outsiders and people who come off as standoffish (Naveen/James and Sirius), but eventually ends up getting to know them and treasuring them as life companions. And you might think me crazy for adding Cinderella, but her unwavering kindness and optimism in the face of hardship is undoubtedly Lily, she’s not all sunshine and rainbows tho —yes the 1950’s version—, she hates the situation that she’s in and wastes no time (alone with her friends) to complain about it, she bites back and only “behaves” out of survival, she’s nice and warm but also angry and headstrong.
Yoon Jin-myung (Hello, My Twenties)
Tumblr media
Here is another hard worker female character that I can’t help but see a little bit of Lily in. Although Jin-myung is much MUCH more shy and introverted than Lily, still, she has a complicated relationship with her family and tries really hard to do a million things at the time, forgetting to care for herself and diving into routines of work/school that are almost self destructive.
Honourable mentions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chili (Bluey) Morticia Addams (The Addams Family Values)
Mostly how I imagine Lily as a mom/ her married life (along with Kate too). Morticia might seem like a stretch but aside from her dark interests and aesthetic, she's a loving mom and partner and she puts her family first, she’s also a bit of a freak, like Lily.
Tumblr media
Sloane (Ferris Buller’s Day Off) Pam Beesley (The Office)
Only on the prankster side of Lily, more chill and easy going, losing up a bit to have fun with Sirius and James.

yeah, I think the whole marrying your high school sweetheart thing is veryyyy overdone in HP. jily, romione, hinny, all of them not only marrying one of their first partners but staying with them for life? highly unrealistic if we're being honest 💀
And super young, which is even more ugh. I mean, I've met couples who have been together for many years and then got married, but 1) they’re like rare specimens, and 2) they usually get married after turning 30 or close to it. I find it weird as fuck that in Rowling’s world, not only do they all end up with one single partner forever with no possibility of divorce, but they also find that person when they’re kids and never sleep with anyone else in their lives. Like, sorry, but that seems surreal to me. I can buy the idea of having a high school love, breaking up in your 20s, reconnecting in your 30s, and then getting married—that idea works. But for everyone without exception to be married to the person they’ve been with since they were 16/17 before turning 25??? What the hell is that?
And Lily had Harry at 20, which means she must have been 19 when she got pregnant. That’s literally a teenage pregnancy, even if she was legally an adult. She was just a kid. And Ginny? Rowling tries to sell us that it’s super cool because she became a Quidditch player, but for how long? Two years? Three? What kind of youth is that? Rowling, let your boys and girls go out, drink, hook up, experiment with drugs, make stupid mistakes, cry over dumb stuff, and live their twenties like normal people. They can get married and be heteronormative in their 30s. Aren’t wizards supposed to live longer than Muggles? What’s the point of getting married at 20 if you’re going to live to 120? Dude, if I lived that long, I wouldn’t even think about marriage until I was 50, lol.
I don’t know, but seriously, the whole marriage thing in that saga, the parents who are basically teenagers, and people not even old enough to drink in the U.S. having kids—it gives me so much cringe, ugh, pure hives. At 21 in Europe, you’re getting wasted during your Erasmus, meeting people, hooking up, and going to some weird party you’ll never want to repeat—not changing diapers. It’s just so random, really.

Random question, but what do you think is everyone’s favorite ice cream flavors in the hp universe? What would their Fortescue order be? 🍨✨
(If “everyone” is too many, then I’d love to see your thoughts on the Golden Trio, Draco, Snape, Lupin, McGonagall, and Luna. Hope that isn’t too tall of an order!)
Golden Trio: Harry canonically buys strawberry-and-peanut-butter ice creams for himself, Ron & Hermione in book 2. Given that he's pretty attuned to his friends' likes and interests (as evidenced by how great the gifts he buys for them always are) I think it's safe to say he didn't just buy his favorite flavour and assume they'd enjoy it too. So apparently as far as the Golden Trio is concerned Fortescue strawberry-and-peanut-butter ice creams are IT. (I kinda judge but ok).
Draco: Ice cream was invented pre Statute of Secrecy so technically it's allowable but it's also also kind of pedestrian so pre-redemption Draco would probably insist that he much prefers some very fancy and expensive and magical dessert. Which he does like. But also he's secretly rather fond of mint chip.
Snape: Snape lived a sad and ice cream deprived life growing up but sometimes they had chocolate and vanilla included with the desserts at the castle. He liked both about the same. As an adult he doesn't bother with things like ice cream due to being sad and having basically no social life and no one to share it with and thus doesn't realize that he would be super into exotic flavors like lavender (his tragically undiscovered favorite) or cinnamon with red pepper.
McGonagall: Minerva seems like she would go for plain vanilla but actually is partial to a sunday with all the fixings including both muggle and magical toppings.
Lupin: He prefers chocolate. (Sadly, all the chocolate ice cream in the world is not enough to cheer him up.)
Luna: Luna doesn't eat ice cream because she objects to the fact that it's made using illegally poached sapient ice mice from Europa as part of a secret Ministry plot to establish a lunar base for breeding a heliopath army. (Her father has a very long article about it coming out in the next edition of of the Quibbler.)

Who do you think are the ten core characters of the series? Is there a difference for you between importance to narrative/narrative roles and regularity in appearance for you?
Yeah, appearance count and narrative role aren't the same thing. Like, a character can be super plot-relevant or relevant to the themes but not have much on-page time.
And it's a damn hard question. Like, HP has so many characters, but a lot of them are like, random NPCs, so let's see if I can do this without bias for my favorites (since the bias is here). The order isn't necessarily in the right order, but it's the order in which they came to my mind.
The first 3 core characters for the plot/narrative are obvious:
1. Harry Potter
2. Voldemort
3. Dumbledore
I think Harry is an obvious choice as the main character and narrator. I don't think he needs further explanation.
Dumbledore and Voldemort are examples of characters who technically don't have as much on-page time but are so incredibly integral to the narrative. I mean, in book 7, Voldemort is barely there, and Dumbledore is dead, but both of them are still at the helm of the narrative.
So, yeah, these gotta be the top 3.
The next 3, I think, are:
4. Ron Weasley
5. Hermione Granger
6. Severus Snape
Like, Ron and Hermione are Harry's best friends. They are super integral to the plot and narrative of the books and appear more than any other character besides Harry. Ron represents the wizarding world, he is the main member of Harry's surrogate family (the Weasleys) so he's so incredibly integral. Hermione is the brilliant muggleborn, she is eleven both for her active part in the story and also for what she is in this world with the blood status tensions.
Snape, while not appearing as much, is instrumental to the narrative as a whole and to how the plot goes down. Snape, as the double-triple agent that he is, is also pretty representative of the story's themes of love and sacrifice, which supports his narrative importance.
Then, the final 4 to reach 10 are a bit of a struggle for me, and I feel my biases rearing their head, but I'd go:
7. Sirius Black
Sirius is the first real parental figure who's competent and whom Harry truly trusts. Sirius' existence is both important to the themes (the black sheep of the Black family) and more so to Harry's personal arc. His death and Harry's grief over it are so prevalent in Harry's story far into Deathly Hallows. Also, he's relevant to the Secret Keeper plot and James' and Lily's deaths.
8. Reberus Hagrid
Hagrid is the person who introduces so many of the ideas we know of as part of the Wizarding World. He's Harry's (and ours) first guide to the magical world and remains instrumental in getting Harry and Co useful information throughout the books.
9. Peter Pettigrew
I mean, none of us would be here without this rat. He got James and Lily killed, he resurrected Voldemort, and he then accidentally saved Harry at Malfoy Manor. He's surprisingly important.
Number 10 was the hardest, and I considered a few characters, but I decided to go with:
10. Lily Potter
Lily has little to no page time. We don't know about her as much as we know about James, but I think she's more integral to Harry's story. She represents love strong enough to rebound a killing curse. She saved Harry, and her sacrifice protects him quite literally throughout the books. It's why he defeats Quirrell in book 1, it caused Voldemort to keep him alive long enough to escape in book 4, and it's potentially why he came back after dying. Lily and her death are big themes in the books for what it represents and what she represents more than just her as a character.
Both Lily and James haunt Harry's narrative, but I feel Lily does so a bit more. There's a reason "you have your mother's eyes" is emphasized so much. Harry at his core, is more similar to Lily than James. That and the love Lily represents are core aspects of the story.
So, these are my picks, I tried to be as objective as I could, 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you still accept characters for that ask meme? I saw you only answered an ask about Messmer so far! How about Morgott for that ask meme? (not sure if asking DS characters counts since like 80% of info about them has to be manually hallucinated by the fan themselves, but I can if that's okay with you!)
Yep, I'm still doing character ask meme, Messmer simply was the only ask for me by now lol Also DS characters are fine too, of course they would be like 95% headcanon based, but that's why we love DS, isn't it?
But anyway, Morgott. My absolutely favourite of favourites of all ER characters...
favorite thing about them
First of all, Morgott is such a beautifully contradictory character. He's a demigod shardbearer and a cursed being, a proud monarch and a monster in his own eyes, a defender of all that is holy and a warlock shrouded in illusions. And all these things are actually logical and completely understandable given his story. Because, above everything else, Morgott is a broken creature, not as a result of his own deeds or guilts, but because of the things beyond his control, some ancient sins and crimes he's not aware of, some old vengeance that existed even before he was born. And this break, this pain, is a spiral, you know? Morgott hates his nature because he was convinced he's a monster, he supports the system that oppresses him because he believes that he's oppressed rightfully and this system is the best remaining option for the world as a whole, even if he and people like him have to suffer for it, and in doing so he causes even more harm, more oppression and misery for himself and everyone around. I love how he's a loyal, determined, faithful person, and this is exactly what makes him a villain in the story. He's an extremely tragic character, but completely consistent in his tragedy, his brokenness, and I have a deep weakness for broken things.
least favorite thing about them
I don't think there's anything I don't like about him as a character, I mean, he's certainly not flawless, but his flaws are what make him so interesting in the first place. So I say that my least favourite thing is his bossfight. Don't get me wrong, Morgott is one of my favourite FromSoft bosses in general, but I have a feeling that they made his moveset (super-complex and interesting) first, then remembered he's a mandatory mid-game boss and panicked to balance him to this level by drastically reducing his damage and hp.
favorite line
May the curse seep to thy very soul.
I just love his spiteful tone in this one, sorry.
brOTP
I could write Mohg or Godwyn here and it would be legit, but allow me to be more exotic this time and mention Malenia. They have many things in common, if you think about it: two cursed, yet somewhat noble beings, bitterly determined and endlessly loyal to their masters of choice. I can absolutely see how they can respect and understand each other, even if not sharing each other's cause. I also love the idea of a young, sick, not-yet-swordmaster Malenia and her Cool Big Brother Morgott, the only person around who takes her seriously.
OTP
Banished knight Oleg. Literally the mix of my favourite tropes of "liege and their a bit too loyal knight" and "my majestic, scheming wife and me, committing whatever crimes she wants me to commit today". Also Oleg dies before Morgott, so my inner angst enjoyer appreciates this as well.
nOTP
Mohg! I just can't see them as a pairing, their sibling relationships is everything to me. I'm also not a fan of Tarnished/Morgott, mainly because most of such arts/fics imply some level of self-indulgence and this just doesn't work for me (though I've seen several very cool works with this pairing too).
random headcanon
Three for the price of one: Morgott's hobby is creating clockwork automatons (a more detailed post about this hc); his favourite half-sibling is Malenia and this is mutual; he also shares Mohg's sense of fashion, but refuses to admit it.
unpopular opinion
While most people hc Morgott to be the elder twin, in my hcs he's the younger one (and the youngest of Godfrey's sons). Ironically enough, this isn't an important headcanon for Morgott himself, but it's an essential part of my perception of Godwyn and (especially) Mohg.
song i associate with them
Мельница - Что ты знаешь
My personal theme song for Morgott as the Veiled Monarch.

There're so many cool arts of Morgott that it's really hard to choose the most favourite one lol

⤷ Questions I have for my Hogwarts DR/Hogwarts shifters (part 2)
I didn’t think there would be this much questions in this part but I literally couldn’t stop thinking about different things I’m curious about. Reuploaded this because I had all my visibility settings on and couldn’t figure out why none of my posts were showing up anywhere LMFAO
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
What are the classes that weren’t mentioned much/at all in the books and movies like? Classes like muggle studies, arithmancy, alchemy, ancient runes etc
What different after school clubs are there? (Is there a duelling club or an art club etc.)
What are the canon hp characters like in your dr? Is there anything about them that you didn’t expect?
Follow up question, are there any canon characters that you don’t get along with?
If you’re shifting to the marauders era, how was the marauders map made?
What’s your favourite memory from your dr?
Are house elf’s really as scary looking as some shifters say they are?
Are there such things as wizard movies/tv shows or other things along those lines?
Are there any famous people in history that were actually wizards/witches?
What are you learning about currently in your classes at Hogwarts?
How are spells invented? Can they be invented or are they just discovered? (If that makes sense)
How are magical portraits made?
Is there any magical equivalent to things like phones, computers, google etc.
Are there any other ways of getting to Hogwarts or is there just the Hogwarts express?
What does a day in your life look like at Hogwarts?
What season at Hogwarts is the comfiest/your favourite?
Is there anything about Hogwarts that you’ve changed?
If you’ve played Hogwarts Legacy, is there anything about it that is similar to your dr?
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened in your dr?
Is there anything about the plot that’s changed because of you? For example, did you expose scabbers as Peter Pettigrew or did you script that you know nothing about the plot?
How does it feel to experience magic firsthand?
How do students from different houses interact? Is there still a house rivalry in your dr?
What are Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade like?
What was it like when you first shifted? Where were you when you first shifted?
What advice would you give to Hogwarts shifters?
What’s your favourite location in the Wizarding World outside of Hogwarts?
Have you made any changes to your script after shifting?
What’s the hardest part about staying in the Wizarding world for an extended period?
What’s the most magical or surreal moment you’ve experienced at Hogwarts?
What are some out of context quotes from your dr?
Does the Wizarding world have magical creature zoos? Are wizards also aware of muggle animals? (This sounds like such a dumb question but I’m really curious)
How do time turners work?
How do Hogwarts students handle their periods at school?
What year did you shift to? And did you age everyone up or make it a university dr?
Are there any house parties in your dr? And if there are how often are they held? Which houses host the best party and, if you want, share a memory from a party you’ve been too
Have you scripted in the Yule ball or any masquerade balls into your dr? What were they like?
If you’re an animagus, what is it like? Was the process hard?
What’s Hagrid up to in your dr? (Bit of a random question but I love Hagrid 🙁)
What’s your favourite shop in Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley and why?
What’s the worst thing about Hogwarts?
What’s the funniest assumption you’ve heard about muggles in your dr?
If you’re shifting to the marauders era, what’s your favourite prank the marauders have done?
If you’ve ever done any of the classes on Hogwartsishere.com, are any of them similar to your dr?
What are some things you do to motivate yourself when shifting to your Hogwarts dr?
Do you have any favourite Wizarding bands in your dr?
Do you have any pets in your dr?
How does it feel to look at pensieve memories?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

I made an outline to show you all what you will find inside “No Peace for the Heathen” :)
The things you will find inside NPFTH (when ready)
Introduction to the game, sharp and short.
Tumblr media
A map and an outline of locations on Isla Grande.
Rules for earthquakes and geological disaster (something very common in this region of the world).
Rules to evolve, from session to session, the dominion that colonist have over the island and a set of consequences to represent their influence over the inhabitants of the island.
Six “Dramatis Personae” for players to choose from (i.e. the classes of the game). They include background, mechanical particularities, compulsions, and objectives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ten backgrounds for the relationships between players characters (PCs), with questions so they can specify their relationship inside these ten options.
Eight prompts with questions about what had happened in the last month to the PCs. To use as a device to start an adventure.
Guide to “Sign of the skin” and “Marks of the fungi nests”, two additional aspects of the past of the PCs that could have some tangible effects on their bodies.
How do you do things? (the main resolution mechanics)
-> d20 + “Tactic” (stats) vs DC. -> The tactics are: Strong, Resilient, Agile, Sneaky, Imposing and Observant, with values between 0 and 10. When creating a character, you have 6 points to distribute among your tactics. -> You can roll with advantage/disadvantage (roll 2d20 and use the best/worst result) when doing things following/against your compulsion. -> Plus a simple method to use the difference between the rolls and the DC to determine the loss of Blood (HP) when failing in dangerous situations.
Blood (HP) → The size of your pool of Blood initially is 3d6 + Resilient.
Blood has five tints, Blue, Black, Red, Green, and White.Blood of each one of these tints can be expended to modify roles made with a particular tactic → Strong can be feed from red, Resilient from green, Agile from blue, Sneaky from black, Imposing from red, Observant from green. White feeds no thing.
Rules for item slots → you have 10 + Strong item slots.
Weapon, shield, and armour:
-> I recently updated the method of random selection of weapons and shields. Before, it was just a simple role, where each item had the same probability of being chosen. Now, they are arranged such that the less powerful items are the more probable of being selected by rolling two dice, but players can make a trade to modify this role by loosing a permanent point in any tactic. -> Armour follows the Mork Borg style of armour, also used by other games, where armour is represented by a die that when rolled absorbs damage. In NPFTH if you roll a 1 in armour die, the armour deteriorates, and the die steps down one tier (d8 → d6 → d4 → broken).
Tumblr media
Grief and Dominance, this two were later additions and were born out of necessity to give more interesting options to the narrative mode of combat.
Tumblr media
Rules for languages and the Chasm (gap that lies between the world views of the invaders of the north and the people of Isla Grande, from here magical energies emerge to twist reality). These rules give an overview of the language that the people of the island speak, and each one of them allows them to speak with another kind of being.
Weird Paraphernalia → 60 random magical items.
Rest and recovery of blood
By eating → restore your blood: 1 point eating raw, 2d4 points if you cook. By catching your breath → restore d4 of blood (White tint). By sleeping → restore 2d6 of blood (Red tint).
Conditions.
This is a simple method of getting “mechanically impacted” without loosing Blood. Conditions use Item Slots, They give negative modifiers to rolls (example, shaken -1, charmed -2, etc…)
Deathly experience → i.e. the conditions of dead in the game.
This is based on Mork Borg, but I have made it so that deathly experiences are more probable than absolute death, to have more fun with the scars and consequences that deathly experience leave on characters.
12 Spirits of the land and rules to call for their aid → this is a revised version of my take on divine magic. It is accessible to all PCs(you just have to make a rite of calling to ask for the favour of the spirits of the land) but it is less reliable than the classic divine magic of other games.
Blood and Food → how to change the tint of your blood by eating different food, this is my homebrew to make cooking and hunting more of a central part of the game loop.
Food and their colours.
Sneak to kill → this is just an addition that I realized it was missing in some of the games I have played. It is a simple rule that allows you to sneak in someone and just kill them, regardless of how “powerful” they are. If you're good enough at sneaking, then it is your decision if they die, plain and simple. Even when your victim is someone with a huge pool of Blood (HP), if they are caught sleeping, and you cut their neck, they are done.
Killing in combat → this is the section of, yes, combat.
-> Uses rolls in opposition. -> The difference between the rolls is the damage you do, or you receive (you can get damaged while attacking). ->It is designed to be lethal and fast, you can attack as much as you like until you get damaged in one of your attacks by your victim. -> Here you will also find Modes of combat → narrative (that uses dominance as a narrative token of combat superiority) and tactical (based on skirmish games, used when at least one PCs is commanding a war-band).
How to get better at killing, tactics and get more blood → this is the “how to level up” part of the game. But it has different options depending on what is the thing you want to improve. You have:
-> War tactics:to increase your war-band abilities in tactical combat. -> Advancing on tactics and blood pool size: by answering questions at the end of an adventure or when killing a mighty foe, or whenever the GM feels is appropriate.
Witchcraft, the five secrets of “La Mayoria”. → this is the magic system of the game, it is an extension of my homebrew for blood magic, and is inspired by the historical witch society of Chiloé, “La Mayoría”. Magic can be learnt by anyone. However, “secrets” (spells) are kept by this society of witches, so you have to pass some trials and make some favours to the society if you want their secrets. Except if you play as an Exile Witch, then you already know all their secrets.
People, Places, Invaders, and Terrors; this is the part with tables and more tables for the people of the island and colonists, the main locations, and some dangers that lure the land. The idea of this collection of tables is that they have enough space for creativity, but the setting can be seen through the specificity of the entries on them. Here I also compiled a set of guidelines and recipes to create the “dungeon-like” locations where Vice Incarnated and Sentient Relic hide; Dead Holy Wheeled Towns.
Exploring the land → rules for encounters with armies of colonists fighting for territory (they are fighting each other all the time, and these skirmishes and larger scale confrontations are part of the landscape).
Three tangled tales to get lost in, and probably die for → the three starter scenarios.
Twisted horrors of the possessed → collection of Vice Incarnated, Sentient Relics, and Colonist Spirits. Also, here it is included a section for “Feeding Grief to a weapon” → rules to increase the power of specific weapons when killing Vice Incarnated and decrease your Grief.
Legends of the land → collection of creatures inspired by the folklore of Chiloé.
Who will find Isla Chica? → a section for the GM, to guide them on how to navigate the tales of a group of people that are trying to survive and find a way out from the brutality brought by colonists.

Was rereading your FFXVI article the other day and I got curious to know why you don’t like Bravely Default and Octopath. I agree that Octopath is a tedious dumpster fire, but I quite liked the Bravely series apart from That One Bit of Default (and also the entirety of BD2, which plays a lot more like Octopath and is therefore dogshit). I’d be interested to hear your thoughts in more detail, if you’re willing to share?
I will definitely say that I liked what I played of Bravely Default 1 (the only one of the Bravely games I've touched) better than Octopath 1. It's not the worst. I can see how people who are more patient with it can get a lot out of it. I think most of my problems with it mainly come down to pacing. The story takes a long time to go anywhere, and the writing along the way didn't grab me. (Ringabel's constant womanizing certainly didn't help.) You unlock additional jobs slowly. It felt like I had to stop and grind a lot, either to level my jobs or just to have enough gold to buy shit. Compared to the whirlwind pace of the classic FFs it was riffing on, it felt like I was making very little progress during the time I played
But the thing that really bothered me is that, even in the early game, bosses are massive damage sponges with tons of HP that take forever to fight. My casters would run out of MP halfway through the fight, and because of how rare and expensive ethers were I'd have no way to restore their MP, so I'd just limp along to the end of the fight without magic. It was miserable. Most old school JRPGs are also pretty strict about MP recovery items, sure, but in those games boss fights tend to be MUCH shorter until later in the game, and they're generally designed so that going in with a full HP/MP party already puts you at an advantage. Those games also have items like tents so that you can restore your party at save points, whereas Bravely seemingly just expects you to turn off encounters and walk all the way back to the nearest inn. These are VERY strange design decisions in a game that's trying so hard to be accessible and low-friction, to the point that you can just turn off random encounters whenever you want. This balancing feels like the worst of both worlds when it comes to classic and modern JRPG design
I can pinpoint the exact moment in the story that was my last straw, though, about six hours into the game. I took a photo of it. It was this:
Tumblr media
In a better story, I could roll my eyes at this line and move on. But I was already having a generally unpleasant time, and the story felt like it had barely gone anywhere in six whole hours. (By that point in FF6 you could be nearing the opera!! In Chrono Trigger you'd probably be in Magus' friggin' castle!!!!!) So I decided it was time to cut my losses
I took this as an opportunity to just go and play FF5, rather than a modern game that's imitating it. I still need to actually beat FF5 someday (I am terrible about finishing long games because ADHD etc. etc.), but god, I loved what I played of it, and it really just highlighted how much better it is than Bravely Default. WAY better story pacing, way better bosses, you unlock the jobs way quicker, the party is way more likeable. It was still a game where I found myself grinding, but in FF5 it felt like I was actively making the choice to invest time in my character builds because I was having fun with those systems, rather than feeling forced to grind for gold or whatever
TL;DR the moral of this story is that everyone should play FF5

I think Harry Potter and Twilight have deluded people into thinking book fanfic fandoms are big. They generally aren't.
I'm well aware of October Daye just because I usually hear about any fangirls-gone-pro-writer. On Tumblr, I tend to see more reblogs from Seanan than discussions of her books, but I'm also not looking at the relevant tags. (For that matter, I see more reblogs from Neil Gaiman about random shit than discussion of his work, and it's not for lack of discussions existing.)
The thing is, even if a book sells very well, it usually has a tiny fraction of the audience of a CW show, never mind a blockbuster movie. Most "book" fandoms really get going via an adaptation of the book. HP was an exception, but it still got a massive boost from the movies starting to come out.
And more than that, fandomy books by fandom people often do a lot of what fans want in the canon itself and have that intimidating bar of the author's own style. A lot of fic writers seem to find it easier when they're crossing mediums, whether it's because there isn't one canon voice to imitate or because they feel less like they're stepping on someone's toes.
There's an entire world of fandomy m/m book series where the leads are buddy cops working on the werewolf task force or nerdy magicians in a Lovecraftian horror town. These things even have rabid fans. But they don't always have a lot of fic.
I mean, never say never, but I know Jordan has an AO3 account. Do I really want him seeing my fic of his stuff or would I rather just go work on my own original m/m while enjoying canons that feel complete as-is?
Even Temeraire only has 1,260 works on AO3 right now.

Oh yeah shit I forgot to tell you I finished the HP movies!
Rubs hands together
Time for some drum roll please
Random Bill Weasley Headcanons!
Tumblr media
Bill Weasley, as a curse breaker, has built up an immunity to curses and extreme magic. This is why he and Fleur were able to get along so well. Her Veela blood didn’t cloud his vision. It’ll also be the reason why he wasn’t properly turned when attacked by Greyback
Speaking of Greyback I have a theory that Bill was specifically targeted by him. One idea is that Bill was possibly working on finding a cure/some kind of new medication for werewolves given he’s a curse breaker and close with Lupin. The other idea was that he possibly smelled like Remus and it Greyback wanted to hurt someone close to the man, or at least leave a message. Either way I have a strong theory there was a reason Greyback chose Bill
He is SOAKED in protection ruin tattoos. And I do mean soaked. Much of it of Arabic origin given his stay in Egypt.
The reason Ginny doesn’t seem to have any long term trauma from the Chamber Of Secrets incident was because Bill took care of her. Definitely not just a plot hole or forgotten detail. No way. Definitely not
Also we all know it would hardly reach the third book if Bill was involved because he would know about horcuxes and how to destroy them and probably even as far as how to save Harry with out AKing him. Just saying facts
Greyback isn’t a sweetheart. We all know his face is not gonna have that anime scar treatment. Like sir? Sir is scars are less visible than Lupins. Lupin has an excuse of being a child and growing up with them, and Greyback’s whole purpose was to infect than kill. Bill would 100% have a blind eye and face be hella fucked up. Like exposed teeth and cut into his hair line. LET DISABLE PEOPLE BE DISABLED
All the goblins at Gringotts are just a bunch of old men that took Bill in as the community kid. He canonically was taken in to be a curse breaker after he finished Hogwarts. Meaning he was under some kind of internship before then. Wouldn’t be a surprise if he would be classified as the world’s youngest curse breaker even. Not even eighteen and working as one at Gringotts of all places. Think about it
He’s a victim of third parent syndrome. So expect lots of him being more of a parent than a brother, and the emotional and mental fatigue that comes with it
His old patronus was a lion but I morphed into a wolf after he was attacked
Bill is the mostly ‘muggle’ out of all the Weasleys. You could drop him in the middle of a muggle city and he would blend in rather well, and actually function relatively well. He’s still a pureblood, but if for some reason he had to hide out in muggle society he can successfully do it. Blame it on all the rock bands he’s gone to listen play live
Given he had lived in Africa for a while he already knew some French, so when he and Fleur met he had impressed her with what he knew. Was a good ice breaker to explain his curse breaking career
Like every Weasley man he likes his women that can kick his ass
Definitely a massive perk of living on the beach was eating all the raw meat he wants. Fleur 100% planned that but don’t let Bill know that. He’s self conscious enough about it as he is
He used to be relatively tanned because of living in Egypt, but a side effect of having werewolf blood is getting sickly. He also returned to working at Gringotts when the war was over so he was trapped underground a lot. At least he can blame that for being pale
Definitely uses it as a excuse to check in on George and Ron at WWW
Ever since the attack chocolate never tasted the same to him. Also gave him a morbid realization on why Remus seemed to ‘love’ chocolate. Poor guy
Much like all kinks they stem from trauma. And that means someone here has a thing for pet play. Whoopsies.
As if Fleur could ever companion. Dommy mommy over there
Guard dog rights am I right?
Definitely has a bad habit of chewing.
Only got worse after the attack
Just look at Fleurs neck. HEYOOO!
Only allows his family, and the goblins, to give him any kind of dog or wolf nickname. If anyone else calls him such he WILL bite you
That also means he loves scritches
Give him all the scritches. He’s earned them
He also will chill out at Dobby’s grave to do paper work or just enjoy the sun. A means to keep him company. If anyone has intense respect for the dead it’s the guy who’s dealt with mummies
And that’s enough from me for not because I’m tired, busy with college shit, and period is around the corner so I’m very depressed. Don’t ask how many drafts I have. It’s alot. Hope you enjoy/share your own headcanons!
Rolls away
