By the way, a lot of readers tend to be surprised about it whenever I talk about it so here's another post to say that independent projects literally live and die by their audience's enthusiasm!! Even if YOU can't support something financially, spreading the word or making fan stuff to create a cool space for other folks to hang out in and engage with the work is just as important! My own comic was going to end this December without funding, and the only reason we've made as much progress as we have towards the goal was because my readers made such an effort to help it find the support it needs.

Indie creators are on our own out here, the only thing that can help us is the audience!! Every share or comment helps even if you think it doesn't!! Literally just existing in a tag so it's not totally dead when someone else goes looking is contributing something really significant to the projects you love, please don't forget how much power you hold as a Reader Of Things.

new to the fandom, hello. i've seen a few posts on your blog about blitz's bad spelling being rooted in dyslexia, however i've noticed that all imps seem to have bad spelling, all the way back to flashbacks of the circus.

one could argue i suppose that spellings seen at the circus are written by his dad, and that dyslexia runs in the family. but i think the consistent imp misspellings are intended as another indication of how lower class imps are - that they are uneducated, perhaps not allowed to receive education, and thus don't know *how* to spell.

I'll start with the claim you based everything on.

"I've noticed that all imps seem to have bad spelling, all the way back to flashbacks of the circus."

Now, I really dug. And I could only find one example of something spelled incorrectly in any of the circus flashbacks. This is from "Oops."

Okay. Someone spelled fireworks comically wrong. My bet is Cash (whatever the cause), and idk... we haven't seen a pattern. Just the one example. Maybe he's dyslexic too. Maybe he's poorly educated (more on that later). But that would all be more in the headcanon realm for me.

Other things are spelled correctly at the circus.

The only other non-Blitz example of an imp being unable to spell something is Striker in "Mastermind" struggling to spell/say grimoire. But who can blame him? I struggle to spell grimoire, and I'm a human with a masters degree.

Beyond that, Fizzarolli, Millie, and Moxxie (you know . . . all the secondary imp characters) are shown spelling things correctly.

Fizz uses shorthand and repeats letters for emphasis here and there, but all of the words that he fully spells out are spelled correctly. There's nothing that can really be called a spelling mistake here.

The same can be said about Millie's texts in "Seeing Stars." She uses shorthand, but it seems intentional. You can compare her spelling to Blitz's directly here. "Mackin" in this context just doesn't have a slangy/shorthand explanation in the same way. Neither does "were" for "where." This is because spelling is automatic for Millie, but it isn't for Blitz. He's using phonetic(ish) guesses.

We also have Moxxie writing down a report that Blitz dictates in "Mission: Antarctica."

The guy can spell perfectly.

But-- honestly? You only have to be familiar with Moxxie as a character to know that his spelling would be flawless . . . For example, look at how he calls Blitz out for his spelling and grammar in "Spring Broken."

Blitz is the ONLY character with a recurring pattern of poor spelling. And if the writers didn't want us to make something of it, they wouldn't keep showing it to us in almost every episode. Now his spelling isn't always bad (he does alright in his apology notes and then in his reports in the shorts- IF Moxxie isn't still writing for him). And I wrote a piece of meta here that explains why I think it might show a form of self-accommodation that's super common for people with learning disabilities.

Now. I'd like to talk about imps and education briefly. Yes, imps are marginalized by their society, often poor, and expected to work for higher demons. But I don't think they have it much worse in terms of education and daily life than say . . . marginalized people in today's real life societies. Their roles are more rigid, yes, but they do hold a range of jobs and participate fully in demon life in multiple rings of Hell.

Are imps on average less well educated than demons higher on Hell's hierarchy? Yes, I'm sure. But remember, Blitz tells us he dropped out of a college, and for that he'd have to be . . . you know, allowed to start at one. And we see imps being very competent consistently. I haven't seen anything that suggests that they're not allowed to be educated (though they're pretty clearly not allowed to access magical artifacts), so I suspect that most imps receive a basic education.

Now do some marginalized people in real life end up illiterate (completely or in part) either because their education is horribly disrupted or inadequate or because they have a learning disability that isn't properly addressed? YES. Do some people with dyslexia still struggle to spell in daily life even if they're well educated and absolutely literate? Also yes.

Imps have a range of experiences in a society that is complex (even if it's in the process of being fleshed out) and reflects our own in many ways.

listen December is Dread Month™ for me so I take whatever my brain can get to survive it emotionally, so in this instance it's joining my buddy @eleanorose123 in her current hyperfixation like I have for the past while :D So while she is still my "target audience" so to speak because she loves Yu-Gi-Oh and I like making art for friends, these are for me too :] (like all of my art is, really. I would not spend this much time on it if it wasn't at least partially for me!) I'm more or less a "fandom tourist" at this point; I don't officially go here but a friend does so I'm here visiting to have a good time, and whatever "souvenirs" I get are all the funny scenes and funky little guys that live in my head rent free now! Yippee :D I have more doodles that are actually older than this set, but I want to do a little more with them so I'll post those later :]

I have no reasoning behind why my brain arrived at the idea of Kirby crossover art that parodies an iCarly meme but do I really need it??? Naaaaaaaah :] Two of my funny space creatures together <3 I enjoy the idea of Saiou just carrying him around like "yep you're mine now :)" Ponder the orb (and buy him a smoothie) Unironically this is some of the best art I've made all year, like it turned out so absurdly well that I took it to clean lines and colour/shading, and that too came out well! They both have their respective anime colours, but with some additional highlights and coloured line art because my boys deserve it <3333

This is honestly the most fun I've had with art in a while too, though I know fan art tends to do that for an artist! Don't get me wrong, I've loved everything I've put out for my own projects and commissions this year, as I am not predominantly a fan artist despite how many things I love in that regard.

But considering I've been largely unable to actually let myself do this kind of art as frequently as I used to (the ever-looming anxiety of not getting enough commission work to live or personal project work done to tell my stories is a strong one) I really needed this, even if it was born out of necessity to survive Dread Month than anything else. That's as good a reason as any, I suppose! Might be an odd thing to reflect on for such silly/lighthearted art such as this, but I think that's the point.

I'm a firm believer in the idea that no artistic endeavour is ever truly wasted, even if you don't know how or when it'll come back to you! I actually got some really good analysis of my own art journey and style during my adventures in exploring the Yu-Gi-Oh art style here, which was as unexpected as the rest of this, honestly!

I'm already an introspective person to begin with, but the end of the year makes me reflect on things even more than usual, so thanks for reading this far! If nothing else, I hope you enjoyed the sillies :]

What is your favorite and least favorite version of all the turtles?

Hey! I'm Nono, and obviously I like to write... 🫣 Anyways, this is supposed to be a little break hobby distracting me from the novel I'm working on. uuuuhh, none of this fic writing is going remotely to plan. i mean, i knew i was constitutionally incapable of just writing smut when i started trying to do this but… why? why did i think writing from armand’s pov was a good idea? the dichotomy of absolute wet blanked and dangerous even by vampire standards is a lot to get across and then you need to layer in that armand, situationally, both is and isn’t aware of that? i also desperately want to have read tva so i have my own opinions on some things instead of regurgitating the bits of what i’ve picked up from fandom that i find interesting. but i don’t want to wait until i’ve read a whole novel (or if i do it in order i think like five whole novels?) to write what was meant to be kink fic. but one this witcher fandom cemented for me is that you can’t trust fandom-at-large’s reading comprehension. so it’s hard not having all the knowledge i want yet.

So I found this in my drafts and welp...oops.

This was going to be what I posted last October when I wrote that day's whumptober fic. You know, before I wrote myself into being physically sick and then had a year long writer's block w v few moments of reprieve where I could write anything (and nothing I was supposed to be working on). (it did not help that I was spending most of my time doing oil changes at work and all of my energy). I plan on finishing the last week of that series this year. I currently have 153 fanfictions posted on AO3. I'm pretty sure They All Live, an Until Dawn fanfiction taking place one year after the events of the original game, was my 150th fanfiction. I Bit Him so He's Mine is officially my 50th Wednesday fanfiction. anyways lets all laugh at fate fucking with my plans under the cut.

It's part 12 of Tyler's Bad Year, my big whumptober 2023 series (@ailesswhumptober) and part 16 of my whumptober 2023 series overall. This really snuck up on me, and I would've planned something special if I'd realized sooner, but this is also a part in the series I've been looking forward to the entire time so it's still exciting. To anyone who has read all the way through, I love you so much. This has been a helluva ride, and I might have actually written myself into a literal fever a week ago (that I'm still lowkey sick from but I'm fine), but no regrets. We're in the last fortnight of the series, and it's getting close to the end of Tyler's Bad Year!

Since I didn't really get to plan something special posted on number 50 for Wednesday, I'm thinking I might make post 200 my Her Monster sequel. I haven't started it yet, but I've got plenty of time to get writing. It was technically my second Wednesday fic, but it was the beginning of an era and it established a lot of what I'm known for in this fandom and the way I most enjoy writing within this fandom. And writing in general.

I have a lot of ideas in my files and works in progress (the two biggest being the novel-length projects All Roads Lead to Rome and I Bit Him so He's Mine) so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. Some will be scheduled with special events. One in particular is a But I'm a Cheerleader! bi4bi wyler au that was originally planned for this year's international bisexuality day, but that was before I started whumptober and the kink bingo and wyler week. There wasn't time to put in the work that au deserved.

It has been suggested that I do something here for this occasion. @suchaladyy thought of a poll bracket or maybe a masterlist of fics that meant something to me. I suppose let me know your thoughts on what you think I should do.
