Absolutely funny to me that the quintessential reason super heroes keep their identity secret is to prevent villains from identifying their civilian selves and targeting the hero’s loved ones, and Danny’s out here like “oh yeah secret identity on it” but completely missed the memo on the second part so he’s guarding his secret identity tooth and nail from everyone… except literally every single villain of the series, who are all independently capable of doxxing him down to his social security number.
Like yeah the ruthless extrajudicial ghost warden with an eternity vendetta against Danny can show up in his family’s living room literally whenever he wants but thank god Mikey from math class doesn’t know, because that would be awkward.
And then it’s even funnier because it works, actually, considering Danny’s loved ones Started It and most of the villains in Danny’s life should actually be MORE afraid of Danny’s family than they are of Danny himself, and the Fentons already parade around with the ghost equivalent of a “kick me” sign on their backs and a loaded bazooka on their shoulders so there’s no amount of subtle Danny could reasonably be to make any difference. And by the time Phantom is accepted as a hero Danny is left with this inside-out backpack of a secret identity that every villain knows about and thats not protecting his loved ones and under normal superhero rules would no longer be serving any purpose EXCEPT for the very vital detail that his loved ones he’s protecting are the last and biggest outstanding threat to him.

Adventures in the making of Superman – Nicholas Hoult
#Howling barking generally being unwell about him#I love that I've seen pretty much all of his stuff but he needed to play a bad guy (bald) for me to find him attractive#Yet you've seen his (probably) most pathetic role to date and were like. Yup. Good stuff#Speaking of pathetic you should probably watch the Menu he's a mansplaining whiny bitch in it#nicholas hoult

Mutual pining is great, but you know what's even better? Mutual pining where they're both fully aware the feelings are requited, they just can't do anything about it for other reasons. Or maybe they technically could but they've had to choose not to, because of The Circumstances.
#I think about this trope all the time#It's SO GOOD#Let's skip the 'is he interested' phase#And get down to the 'we are BOTH interested but who will make the first move' phase

what i find absolutely incredible about flowers in the attic is how thematically tight it is. like, the incest isn't in there for shock value, it's literally the founding myth of the family: malcolm is possessive of corinne to the point of it being clear that there's something sexual about it, even before you know the full backstory and olivia's religious obsession is arguably a reaction to her husband's attraction to their daughter. you have corinne and chris senior's original sin, obviously. even when chris and cathy are children, it's clear the boundaries with their parents are somewhat muddled and their mutual attraction, at least on chris' part, is influenced by his own unresolved oedipical attraction towards corinne. cathy immediately makes their father a martyr and hates corinne in a textbook helektra complex. part of the tragedy of it is that they would have probably never developed an incestuous relationship if they hadn't been forced to step in as parents to their younger siblings. the narrative closes in on them inexorably and it's all there, from the very first pages!!!
#Not me being about to tag you and then seeing it's on my dash because of you lmao#flowers in the attic
