🌴Lowedeus' Neighbourhood Skies optimised (reduced texture sizes)🌴

(cleaning my desktop up and want to post this, sorry for the lame preview but i cba lol)

so this is an optimisation of those hood skies by lowedeus. if you encounter pink flashing, then these are for you! these skies are often listed in sims 2 starter packs and not many people realise how much of a toll it has on your game, being at 4k texture sizes. they are a staple for the game tho so thats why i optimised it

a general disclaimer is that if you use custom skies and horizon mods, they are one of the biggest offenders of pink flashing as those use HUGE texture sizes!!

all i did here was shrink the textures to some better sizes, like 1024x512 and 512x512 (the texture sizes here were different so thats why they're not the same)

it will overwrite the original files (these wont work with the others)

eta: these are not for simnopke's skies, but the originals are tagged above

another not eta: the original maxis sky is 512px only, that's what inspired me to do this as there's no reason why other textures can't be that size too

lol not gonna deny the stubbornness, but to me it really didn't feel like they show did enough to establish ted missing and longing for kansas?

like qualitatively what did they show from him as a character about his missing kansas itself? his tshirt collection, peanut butter and bbq sauce, mentioning the state flower? bitching about local stuff? like um ok?

this might just be coming from my own experiences as a 15-year emigrant, but like... i long for bagels, i really do. it's one of the greatest tragedies of my life that i no longer fly back to the states through new york and getting real bagels is now a long and miserable planned trek. i genuinely can taste in my mouth rn a toasted sesame bagel with a schmear of veggie cream cheese from bagel boss on merrick road my god i would do crimes. don't even get me started on real deli pickles gOD all pickles here are sweet it's so deeply wrong. like...idk that's just part of the emigrant experience? like idk if they intended all of that to signal a deep and tragic desperation to go back to the wide open skies of kansas but that kind of just felt like standard emigrant behavior to me (lmao i just realised my desktop bg is literally ny street scenes too), esp bc at least one of the writers has had that experience themselves? they needed to really give ted something more to get me to believe that he's somehow got the kansas soil in his bones and would be incomplete without it.

and imo things that and like the wizard of oz pinball machine only work as symbolic emphasis if the character work has been done to give them something to emphasize? as it stands, it feels like a lot of floating symbols were thrown around instead of actual character work, attempting to cheaply borrow meaning from elsewhere to make ted's supposed homesick longing feel real.

and tbh that kind of felt like his relationship with henry too? we got the symbol of the concept of a traditional father/son relationship, we got the symbol of the legos, we got the symbol of cat stevens father and son demanding our heartstrings be pulled... but what material things were those symbols emphasizing? how much time was given to showing ted and henry's actual relationship? like even in the episode this season when henry was literally present, ted p much ignored him in favor of stalking michelle! they didn't have one-on-one conversations except for ted trying to pump him for info about dr jake??? what are we supposed to do with that?? feel like everything's healthy and cool and great for them esp isolated in kansas?

it's like a bunch of floating signifiers that we're supposed to take as substitute for actual story. here's some barbecue sauce can't you just taste the longing? listen to stevens's music - that's a relationship, right?

Rambling ahead about post editors. Desktop I should say lol I dont use mobile.

I think I just found a flaw in the new editor- tho I don’t really know how many people it will effect or maybe I’m still not sure whats going on.

BASICALLY- The new editor won’t let you view images on a blog in that nice slideshow kinda style. It works fine via the dashboard or when you click on a users avatar and get that like... mini-window version of the blog. Tho at the same time I’ve noticed a lot of newer blogs dont seem to have a main blog page? Or is it some restricted access thing idk.

REGARDLESS-

^ So I updated my blog layout, the old one was bothering me with simply accessing content. I noticed tho with a comic I made recently- and a few other posts, that if I clicked on the first page/ panel, I couldn't just go to the next one, I'd have to click off the image and then click the next one. I thought it was the theme I had prior making that happen, but it seems not. What you see here is a test post I just made with the NEW editor. ^

^ And this is a similar test with the LEGACY EDITOR, you can see that the next image appears on the right, so you can just scroll through them with the mouse or arrow keys.

Is it a minor issue? Probably lol.

❤️ - what is your favorite line that you've written in a fic? it's definitely one of the evans!severus ones. this au is quite personal for me so everything i write or draw for it has a basis on something that i've experienced irl. it's a coping mechanism of sorts, and a way for me to understand certain things that happened in the past. my favorite lines are from the ficlet i did titled Hello World [ad infinitum] and it's:

You are ready to crawl out of your skin, jump out of your bones, and enter your child’s bloodstream. Hold him nerve for nerve. Calm the exploding suns in his mind. He births universes at least once a week. You all are surrounded by the ghosts of galaxies.

This was a fic that forced me to get into the headspace of parents forced into a near-impossible situation, but one which they powered through if only via sheer will and determination. i think the lines captured not only how the condition [epilepsy] itself manifests in the physical sense, but also the ephemerality and intangibility of it all. i was pretty chuffed too that i didn't have to think too hard about these lines; they just came to me! 🏷 - is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read? this applies more to a03. i don't really search tags unless i'm in a specific mood for something, like specific characters, certain pairings, or "______'s A+ parenting". :)) i grew up reading untagged fics on forums and later on livejournal, so tend to ignore tags when searching a lot of the time. i mostly depend on summaries. when on ff dot net (which is actually my preferred platform over a03 because of the amount of old fics on there), i filter by genre, usually sticking to drama, angst, hurt/comfort, adventure.

💕 - what is your favorite fic that you've written? ohhh, for hp definitely the first one i ever wrote for this fandom, which is with friends like these. i love how lucius is characterized here, and how he's just a step from the edge. the desperation and the intense level of his grief interspersed with guilt was so satisfying to write and to read over and over. i also like how i had written other people's treatment of him, as though he's a bomb set to explode. he's in disgrace, but he's still managed to keep the last shreds of his dignity intact, and is still capable of doing harm when pushed.

🥳 - why did you start writing fanfic? purely for my own indulgence, like most people! :)) i like imagining what-if scenarios but also still sticking to canon for a lot of other things. i also use it for catharsis.

🦈 - which character is the toughest to write? ooooooh i'd have to say eileen prince, mostly because i cannot for the life of me decide how i want her to be. i hate the idea of her being submissive. it doesn't sit well for me at all and not something i particularly want to read and write about. i want her to have a stronger personality but can't figure out what her exact story is, apart from having had an ambiguous past with abraxas malfoy (vague hints of a previous relationship which was cut short) and tom riddle (were they friends? rivals? both?). i'm not keen on the abused wife trope mostly because it's so overused and not something i like. i'd rather have her be apathetic and neglectful than be abused (because why? why would a witch allow for it? i can't find a reason for i, especially if you have another world you can escape into), but really haven't figured out the nuts and bolts of it.

📗 - do you want to write something outside of fanfiction? if so, what about? i used to want to, when i was younger. i used to want to be a writer! for the time being, i don't want to write any original fiction. i work in a very rigorous and mentally- and emotionally-draining industry which involves a lot of strategizing and diplomatic hoo-hah. life is far stranger than fiction, and anything i can write will pale in comparison, i think. :)) i'll let life unravel first and see where i end up.

💭 - what inspires you and your writing? my basis for writing is a lot of complex emotions - mostly grief and loss - that i want to sort through, and this shows up a lot in my work. some people have said that i create too many angsty pieces but hey, i create for me. :)) i find the act of creation very satisfying and is something that helps me figure out how to deal with things. alas, my blorbos suffer for it (and i'm not sorry). it also helps that i have plenty of enabler friends! >:)

😎 - what fics do you prefer on a scale of canon compliant to wildly original? oooooh, i like both! it depends on the plot tbh. i've read so many fics that were so au the entire world was practically rebuilt, and other worlds were created for the characters to traverse through. i love those! especially if the lore was thought through really well. some fic writers could honestly give tolkien a run for his money.

on the other hand, i also love canon-compliant fics because those present its own set of challenges. imagine creating your own world within a world that's already created? fanfic-writing is so great because it stretches the limits of creation and co-creation. i love how creative people can get while working with canon and never breaking its rules. i'm always in awe of what comes out of it.

one thing i love is when people incorporate something that they know about really, really well and make that the center of the fic. it can be a hobby, a culture, a language, a sport, etc. you can always tell when an author is knowledgeable or passionate about the topic because it shines through and i love that! if i like the writing style, these types of works can make me read about anything, even about things that i normally wouldn't be interested in in real life.

💘 - is it easier to write angst or fluff? definitely angst. these are emotions that are readily accessible for me because i internalize a lot and like to figure out why i felt x when y happened. usually that involves a lot of angst. not to say that i never experience any happiness irl but happiness/fluff is also not something i think too deeply about, and therefore not something i find satisfaction writing about. it's an itch that already gets scratched enough, but soothing angst irl is not something that happens, so i do it via fic.

🚦 - what sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc..? ambiguous! i like it when readers figure out for themselves what happens. i like the act of co-creation that happens in writing, specifically when the reader will have different interpretations of endings or events, and it's usually a reflection of their own experiences and thoughts. given the choice though between doing a good and bad ending, it really depends on the characters and what takes place in the plot. i normally don't have an ending figured out when i start writing. i'm more interested in the journey of growth that happens in between. my normal route is i plot that (the journey/change), then let the characters make their own way. i decide what type of ending they should have once we get there.

🤩 - what led to your interest in the fandom? i've been an hp fan for a long, long time but did not get involved in the fandoms outside of forums and various lj communities. even then i kept my distance, because i was still in school and didn't want it taking over my life lol. i couldn't afford to be on the family computer every day after school; i had to study and stuff, y'know? i was in varsity teams, orchestra, student council, etc on top of everything else so getting completely immersed in the fandom was not an option. the last few books were released while i was in university and the only fandom i could really get involved in then was the one among rl friends where we knew who was fans of which characters and we'd discuss the plot over lunch and thingss. apart from that, we were too busy to get involved in the internet wars that happened then ahahaha.

i only got really involved in fandom during COVID. i needed a space to just forget about the real world for a while and being in the snapedom worked. i got to writing again and started drawing digitally. i don't regret it at all!

🤖 - are non-fandom friends aware that you write fanfic? hahahahaha NO. i think one or two suspect it but they've never asked. these are friends i've had since childhood and who know i read fanfic (they do too), but we've never revealed whether or not we create fanworks ourselves. they know what fandoms i'm in however, and we share some of them, so i guess not knowing is the best arrangement. we like that we're able to keep our fan lives private, and are able to vent anonymously.

🎨 - if someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see? idk to be honest! it would be interesting to see a DTIYS (draw this in your style) based on my snape. or even the hcs i have of them, a fave being catholic!snape. i have many imagined works based on catholic!snape but i'm not brave enough to attempt them, mostly because it would involve a lot of rigorous and detailed work :))) i want to draw him in a huge empty cathedral sitting on one of the last pews, while looking up at the altar in front. the idea of the altar alone is enough to put me off the entire thing. my wrist already hurts just thinking about it. :))

ive been thinking i need to make new tshirts to sell but the ones ive made in recent time havent been selling as well as my old ones, and my sales have dropped sooo much. idk i honestly feel like i dont have any ideas.

i’d love to make money off of prints or artwork like paintings but idk. i always feel unsatisfied with my work, to the point where i either give up or think no one would even want it. ive had a listing of one of my paintings on etsy for awhile, and its in someones cart but it hasnt been purchased yet (i listed it for $300 lol). ig i just genuinely feel like a subpar artist... i feel amateur and mediocre at everything i do, the only thing i ever see potential in is my music and even with that i think is not great lmao. i forgive myself more for that though because music is new to me still and is hard and i think im decent for someone who is still a beginner.

i wish i could offer the same space to myself with my other endeavors, but its hard, especially when the main thing on my mind is money. it really doesnt help the patience and skill that art requires when you are horribly broke and feel like you need to create in order to afford basic necessities.

so ig im just seeking any kind of advice or words, i dunno. i have a fine job right now its just become very monotonous and i dont make much money from it. ive grown tired of it and would love to be supporting myself on my own, through art or creativity in some kind of way.

i begin to feel hopeless about everything when im broke. i question myself and my abilities. ive been practicing guitar again tho, and it feels nice. i want to be able to improve and be able to play even if just at an intermediate level, though of course id love to be amazing at it in the future. other than that i havent been working on ableton, and i havent finished a song in forever.... i hate all my old songs because i can sense a sort of holding back and reluctance in them that i despise and am desperately trying to move past. so most of my old songs are duds because i didnt approach them in the way i need to and im not sure if they are fixable tbh...

anyway idk what else to say im just kinda down today. i go back to work tomorrow so thats probably why. i just wanna live a good life and enjoy things and love what i create.

i dont know if anyone else has tried this yet (highly doubt it), but i decided it would be really silly to run the cosmic desktop alpha (a very new and not super stable desktop (its never crashed on me tho)) on perhaps the slowest moving, most stable operating system i can think of, redhat enterprise linux.

so i did that

it was kind of a pain, but in the end I only had to manually compile one dependency (libseat), and the rest i could get by yoinking packages from other rhel-adjacent distros (like centos stream or fedora) and way more than i thought were actually just in the RHEL repos

now, after becoming potentially the only person on earth to have done this abomination, i needed a screenshot to prove it of course

taking the screenshot was surprisingly the hardest part

i tried many things to get it to take a screenshot, but then i remembered, when i installed cosmic, i put it in the /usr/local directory. this was apparently a bad idea, since cosmic hardcodes a lot of paths under the normal /usr directory. i modified start-cosmic and the session .desktop file to get it to launch at all

as i was writing this post actually i decided to try to throw everything into the normal /usr directory instead of /usr/local, and magically, taking a screenshot now worked. i'm gonna guess cosmic hardcoded something in the desktop portal to the /usr directory.

so, here it is, in all of its glory: COSMIC Epoch 1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4!

After HiPaint betrayed me again and deleted my shading layers on a drawing after crashing, im Switching completely to Krita. Just to get a feel of things I sketched this dude.(with an incredibly wonky shoe lol)

The only thing that makes me hesitate for Krita on android is the UI. But I guess I can work with it in the hopes od stability. At least its nothing completely new worked on Krita before on Linux with my XP Pen. The brush engine is one of the best tho, even rivaling CSP my main on desktop.

I really had to sit and think about this one LMAO and settled on... absolutely nothing bahaha I don't really know if I really think of spice in terms of tropes? I like the circumstances that might lead to said spice, in which case, jealousy is a favorite theme (and voyeurism ties into that, so ok, maybe we've accidentally landed on a trope lol)

I have not written that trope for SAB/SOC tho and frankly everyone should do a prayer circle to hope i never do bc that will be the day i finally get excommunicated from fandom entirely lmaoo

(I don't know what the second emoji was lol desktop killed it) but I love writing/daydreaming for rarepairs (as we all know!) :P

I just love love (and desire, and selfishness, and friendship, and attraction, and duty, and all the other things that get caught up in it) and I really enjoy being able to create those connections even amongst unlikely pairs ( Kaz x Nina! Inej x Matthias! Kaz x Poppy! Kaz x Zoya! Darkling x Inej! I think that's all my published crimes so far!)

I think the challenge of finding the common ground (and the circumstances required to get there is half the fun. There's really no better feeling to me than being like hey, this pairing is RIDICULOUS... and here's the 'ah-ha' moment where I can make it work for myself and for an audience too. Truly no better compliment than someone saying 'I didn't see this pairing until I read this piece, but now I get it' hehe
