I understand that literature nerd Jason Todd is kind of overblown in fanon compared to it's actual presence in canon (a few issues during his pre (and post?)crisis Robin tenure that highlight it) BUT consider that I think it's hilarious if the unhinged gun toting criminal has strong opinions on poetry
So this tweet made a real good point and got me thinking about this scene:
As mentioned in their tweet, "you don't 'beg for mercy' for a job," and here he sounds so scared and desperate, like he's had to do this A LOT before with the directors and it's so... sad.
(more under the cut)
Before he finds out the truth about Eden, he believed they saved him from his former life and gave him new opportunities to continue his dreams, but do you think having to needlessly beg to keep your position as literally being the face of Eden out of fear you'll be replaced and thrown right back out to your old life is a so called dream come true?
Eden even made a trailer for a movie about his life to fame, showing how everyone was rejecting him as a person, which they definitely made it more simplified like I KNOW he was getting way worse treatment than what was shown.
My main point is that despite believing in Eden's motives (before knowing the truth), he still wasn't truly happy deep down. He was STILL getting rejected and slandered by society, and he knew that deep down, so it's not surprising how the possibility of him losing his job made him have a whole breakdown and do the things he did to try and cope.
He quite literally has no one to lean to and hasn't had anyone since showing up to Eden besides the directors (because he probably believed they were treating him fairly and with respect), but... yeah.
He wanted to make a difference, to give hope to hybrids, and he thought he was doing just that. Despite the way the directors and everyone thought of him, despite how alone he felt, he still thought he was achieving his dreams and sharing that onto others
and yet... he was being used this entire time. None of it was true, all the hard work and the things he went through was for nothing.
Everything that Eden has done, and he was the face of it all... it's just devastating.
Because I've been thinking about the fandom tendency to paint characters of color as conservative versus their white counterparts, who are usually valorized as progressives, I'm thinking about the way fandom often talks about Kabru (calling him a cop, saying he's Lawful Good/Evil, saying he'd be an econ or business major or tech bro in AUs, I heard through the grapevine they're calling him classist on tiktok) and absolutely refusing to see his actions- of repeatedly sabotaging an imperial force's military operations for the good of oppressed peoples- as radical.
Kabru was raised by a poor single mother in an economically disenfranchised region, then rejected a life of luxury in the imperial sphere. He explicitly aligns himself with the exploited population (short-lived races) he is a part of. He wouldn't be a fucking investment banker, in any AU he's the most likely character to be an activist. I can't scroll for three posts without seeing Chilchuck hailed as a girldad working class hero (and I'm not saying that's not deserved!) but there is barely any thought given to what it means for the brown guy to care so much about fighting against the takeover of a first-world power.
I don't understand people who say that Gwen and Miles don't have to end up together just because they're a girl and a boy and how a girl and a boy can be just friends but at the same time those people claim that Gwen and Hobie most likely slept together when she stayed over just because they're...you know...a girl and boy, and that a girl and a boy can't be just friends...
I cannot begin to describe how much I love and respect and appreciate the people who keep Ao3 functioning as the amazing resource that it is. I cannot fathom how such a massive, highly trafficked non-profit project is maintained as well as Ao3.
With that cleared up:
I am dying, perishing of starvation, lost, bereft, forlorn. My only natural food source has shriveled up and I am on my last legs, alone and malnourished. We are approaching the three hour mark and I fear for my future. Will I survive? Will I find sustenance? Will I have to do productive things while waiting?
I'm real sick rn so I could come up with nothing other than to publicly document how bad my luck is in Disco Elysium...
Anywaaaaays all I've been doing this last week is playing this game and I am head-over-heels hyperfixated!! Like why haven't I played this sooner? Am I cursed to always be late to the party??
i am once again begging for jason fic recs but this time i'm gonna be more specific. pls plsss share any fics you guys have read that doesn't include pit madness, jason apologizing to tim, jason feeling bad about what he did to tim, or anything to do with tim. if it has to do with tim, i hope it's someone acknowledging tim's role in badmouthing robin jason (literally impossible i think) or them only having a relationship if it's not built on jason feeling guilty and tim being a baby twink
he wanted to be an astronaut when he was young, and stayed up all night when he was 14 to watch his hero do a walk in space
he's scared to death of fire because his friend's house burned down when he was a kid
he went to oxford 10 years before the start of s1, where he dated phoebe and they, at the very least, made out on arthur conan doyle's grave (but it's implied they went all the way)
he is a fan of like. all of the sports. i cannot keep up with them all, but he sure can
he had his first case at the age of 28, where an agent died because he wouldn't take a risky shot
(and he remembers everything about the man who died- his kids, their ages, what they do for fun- all of it haunts him)
((he also, at the trial for the man who killed the agent, screamed that he "should die like an animal, you son of a bitch"- so much for cool and composed spooky mulder))
he always falls asleep on his couch to the point where i don't even know if this man has a bed
before being moved to the x-files, he worked for 3 years at the behavioral science unit, where he profiled serial killers
(also literally no one wants him on the x files they just keep him around because he is too dangerous to fire lmao)
he will go out of his way to make any kids involved a case he's assigned to feel comfortable and/or laugh as a break from the Heavy Moments (probably because he remembers being questioned while very young and how awful it felt)
he believes that siblings have a psychic connection (heartbreaking when you remember his sister disappeared when he was 12 and he only has access to the memories due to hypnosis)
he refused to let his parents call him by his first name and only went by "mulder", even as a child
Re: Pinterest (but also just generally speaking). I don’t get why people think the writers view ships the same way fans do. They are writing a cohesive intentional story, they aren’t setting out to write “plot + ships”. Relationships are a cog in the machine of the story for them. They are not fans. They don’t ship their own show, as Finn put it. No Duffer or otherwise is giggling and kicking their feet over M*leven fanart 💀 but M*leven dating was a big part of s3. If people are creating art based off of where the story was at at the time, as a creator of course you’re going to appreciate that love for your work?
The writers obviously don’t hate M*leven, that would be weird and again, shipper behaviour 😭 Mike and El were sweet kids, they’re puppy love if you will. Those young teen first relationship antics is what their s3 arc was meant to embody. It’s nostalgic and endearing for many, yes it’s also childish and immature and not built to last but that’s the point? It’s multifaceted and realistic. The Duffers see them as what they are: kids. Kids who are growing up and all the joy and confusion and ups and downs that come along with that. ST is about coming of age and s3 especially about coming into adolescence. This idea that Mike and El has to have been secretly intended as this completely fake, empty or even toxic dynamic with no nuance the entire time is just not in line with reality imo and isn’t necessary in order for Byler to be the end point. Mike can even realise he’s gay and those experiences with El still be formative and a meaningful part of his story, and his conception of romance at that point in his life.
TLDR the writers are not shippers, they don’t share our perspective nor the perspective of M*levens. I don’t think they see things as one-sidedly as the fandom does. They’re not writing ship fic they’re writing a complex story. That story at one point included Mike and El dating for the first time. It’s okay for them to acknowledge that and appreciate fan works it inspired at the time! That doesn’t take away from everything that has happened in canon post s3 and the direction they chose to take the story 👍 also if you want to laugh here’s one of the fanarts:
Super romantic. And of the post s4 arts there’s not a single M*leven in sight (but there is Byler holding hands 🙂). Also please read my original tags if you’re seeing this 🙏
