October Reading and Reviews by Maia Kobabe
I post my reviews throughout the month on Storygraph and Goodreads, and do roundups here and on patreon. Reviews below the cut.
Pageboy by Elliot Page
This has been on my to-read list ever since it came out, and I finally picked it up. This book is an honest, sometimes painfully honest, accounting of Elliot Page's life up until his decision to come out as trans. He grew up in Canada, the child of divorced parents, with a hostile step-mother, an emotionally manipulative father, and overworked mother who initially did not accept his queerness. He started acting in elementary school and found it a freeing creative outlet, even when he hated the overly-girly clothing the roles often forced him into. Like many people who start in the film industry very young, he was taken advantage of sexually by adults who should have kept him safe. These experiences are written about less graphically than the blistering gender dysphoria and numbing disassociation that followed Elliot from his teens into his twenties. He threw himself into movie projects and love affairs, running away from a secret that nearly ate him alive. I'm so grateful that was eventually able to come out, because it really sounds like staying in the closet might have killed him. This book is not written chronologically; chapters center on themes, projects, or relationships. I understand that choice while also wishing that more of then teen chapters had been placed earlier in the book- sometimes the way the book kept slipping backwards in time felt a time bit repetitive. But it also felt honest to the experience of someone who kept backsliding in his ability to be honest with himself, until hitting the rock bottom of mental health, when there was no other choice but to be true.
Woe: A Housecat's Story of Despair by Lucy Knisley
Given the square format, I thought this was going to be a picture book but when it arrived from the library it was a full color 200 page collection of all the instagram comics author Lucy Knisley ever drew about her much loved fluffy orange cat, Linney. These comics are deeply relatable for any cat owner. I'd read pretty much all of them online before but I enjoyed seeing them all again in this collection.
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold read by Lloyd James
Cazaril was once the son of a noble family, entrusted with defending a strategically important castle during one of Chalion's many wars. Then the castle was sold to the enemy, and Caz was not ransomed, but instead forced to serve as a galley slave on an enemy ship. Finally free, he walked across two countries to reach a town where he worked in his youth, and enters the stronghold wearing clothes he took off a corpse. All he wants is a lowly position, maybe in the kitchen or the stables, where he can earn a bit of bread and sleep warm at night. Instead, he is given the position of tutor to the Royesse Iselle, half-sister of the current king of Chalion. He begins the work of teaching her multiple languages, history, geography, politics, and how to tell when a man is lying to her. All of these skills and more are needed when she and her brother, the heir to Chalion's thrown, are called to court. Cazaril is required to travel with them, even though he knows that the man who betrayed him serves there as the king's high chancellor. And worse yet, he discovers that the whole royal family is under a generations-long curse. This was my second read of this book, the first one being back in 2008 so I remembered almost nothing. It's a clever and well constructed fantasy, with the twists and turns I expect and love from a Lois McMaster Bujold novel. This time around, the age gap romance (between a 20 year old and a 35 year old) made me raise my eyebrows. It fits thematically into the story but also, why.
The Ribbon Skirt by Cameron Mukwa
This is a gentle queer comic for younger readers. Ten year old Anang decides they want to make a ribbon skirt to wear to an upcoming powwow. A ribbon skirt is a piece of celebratory clothing typically worn by Anishinaabe women, and Anang isn't entirely sure what their friends or community will think about them wearing one. But the spirit world encourages Anang. The lakes, the crows, turtles, waves, and trees participate in helping Anang gather all of the supplies they need, despite some light resistance from other characters in the story. Short and sweet, this is lovely introduction to two-spirit and nonbinary identities for a kid who hasn't heard of them yet, and an affirming story for a young person who already inhabits a gender-nonconforming space!
Tokyo These Days vol 2 by Taiyo Matsumoto
Shiozawa continues to attempt to build a collection of artists for a new manga magazine. He visits old friends, writers whose talent he's loved for years. Some of them have retired from the business. Some are busier than ever. Some love the direction their work has gone since Shiozawa last saw them; others believe their work has become soulless and commercial. I love how the authors are portrayed as unique, flawed humans with human histories. They have families, disabilities, insecurities, dreams. We meet Chosaku's ex-wife and daughter on a weekend visit. Hayashi continues to struggle with her main artist, Aoki, who struggles with insomnia and flees back to his hometown. Creating manga is depicted as half a calling, half an affliction.
Death At Morning House by Maureen Johnson, read by Katherine Littrell
This is more of a 3.5 or 3.75 but rounded up because it was queer and out of my extreme affection for Maureen Johnson's murder mysteries. This one introduces a new character, Marlowe, who gets into a spot of trouble with some accidental arson while on a date with the girl of her dreams, and then runs away to an absurd summer job on one of the thousand islands on the St Lawrence River. Marlowe joins a group of five other teens who already all know each other to serve as a tour guide for Morning House, the mansion of a rich doctor and eugenicist who summered with his seven children on the island in the 1920s- that is, until two of them died there. And the island has seen another death, more recently. Marlowe didn't show up to solve crimes, but if she wants to make it home at the end of the summer, she'll have to. Similar in tone to the Truly Devious series, this book was a very easy and fun listen. I wish the eugenics thread had either been cut, or better developed, but Marlowe is a delightful character to follow and if this book gets a sequel I will definitely listen to it.
If You’ll Have Me by Eunnie
This is an extremely sweet and delightfully illustrated sapphic romance, which only partly hinges on a misunderstanding as the main conflict. Momo is a shy college freshman, a rule follower, a hard worker who didn't date or party at all in high school. She runs into PG, seemingly mid-hookup with a friend of a friend who claimed to be too sick to come to class. After that first encounter, Momo seems to see PG everywhere, and each time with a different girl. Clearly, PG is a player and also in a completely different league than Momo. Except, when a cautious new friendship begins to develop between them, PG seems unfailing chivalrous and polite. Which is the real PG? And how much trouble will Momo get into if she lets her feelings become something more? I really enjoyed the bright color palette and confident line art.
Tokyo These Days vol 3 by Taiyo Matsumoto
I appreciated so deeply how this series represented artists wrestling with their creative practices. Some draw steadily for years, with a similar quality level of work. Others struggle with writers block, family tragedies, self esteem, rough deadlines, with falling out of love with their stories, or their editors, or the time commitment of being a full time author. This series also shows how a patient and support editor can absolutely made an artists career- or how the lack of one can destroy it. This is such a human slice-of-life story, and I liked its open but hopeful ending.
Gay the Pray Away written and read by Natalie Naudus
Seventeen year old Valerie wishes she could pick up any book at the library without fear, wishes she could pick her own clothes, wishes she was allowed to hang out unsupervised with friends, watch movies, or just spend time on the internet. But her family is part of a very extreme Christian community which home schools their children, limits the media they are allowed to access, controls their movement, wardrobes, and social lives. Valerie is expected to join family Bible studies daily, volunteer at the Church, and marry a boy in the community shortly after her eighteenth birthday. She isn't excited about any of this- in fact, she spends much of her time daydreaming or bored nearly to tears- but what else can she do? Then she finds a queer book with a fairly nondescript cover at the library. And a new girl- a girl with short hair, a girl who wears jeans- joins the Church. Valerie is captivated. The new girl represents a window into freedom and Valerie wants as much of that freedom as she can hold. I have some critiques about how this book ended, but I'm also very aware that I am not part of its target audience. Hopefully this book will find its way into the hands of teens who need it.
Gender Studies by Ajuan Mance
A slim but insightful collection of memoir comics on the intersecting identities of being Black, queer, gender nonconforming, and a nerd. These stories are thought provoking, funny, and delightful well drawn.
Clever Girl: Jurassic Park by Hannah McGregor
McGregor turns the film Jurassic Park over in their hands, like a piece of amber, to examine it from all sides and finds a story packed with possibilities of liberatory, queer, and feminist readings. From thoughts on the monstrous feminine, reproductive control, missing mothers, and found family, this text weaves together a rich tapestry of threads. I completely understand now why this film (which I half-watched once at a distracting party, but now want to revisit) has becomes such an enduring classic. The ending note advocates for the building of networks of mutual aid and care during and after apocalypse, something I need more and more desperately in this damaged world.
House of Women by Sophie Goldstein
Four women arrive on a jungle planet via spaceship with a mission to create a school and educate/ tame the indigenous species of beings there. Like most colonizers, they think they are doing something good by bringing the light of civilization into the supposed darkness of the wilderness. Like most colonizers, they completely fail to understand the people they have come in contact with the project ends in devastating violence. The art in this book is extremely elegant, with powerful black and white design and pattern work illustrating a believable alien world. If you've ever read The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, this is story has some similarities in tone and theme but much shorter and more condensed, as necessitated by the comics format. It's not a hopeful or kind story, but I thought it was executed extremely well.
Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H. read by Ashraf Shirazi
Lamya H weaves together memoir with stories from the Quran, introspection on prophets, myths, histories, and alternate readings, into a compelling whole. As a gender-nonconforming baby queer, Lamya struggled under the oppressive roles and limited options available to them in the Arab speaking country to which their parents moved for work in their childhood. But a lightning strike of realization in a Quran study class- that Maryam could also be read as a depressed lesbian- fed Lamya's imagination with new possibility. Lamya moved to the United States for college and grad school, navigating new friendships with other liberal Muslims and new prejudices against brown bodies, especially bodies wearing hijab. One compelling chapter outlines the nightmare of bureaucratic hoops that need to be jumped through to renew student and work visas; the author compares choosing to stay in the US to staying in an abusive relationship. But Lamya fell for New York City, and for the family, chosen, queer, and blood, that they collected over the years. I really appreciated this book for offering a perspective I'd never read before, and for its fierce insistence that one can absolutely be both Muslim and queer.
Vivian’s Ghost by Hal Schrieve
Holy shit, this comic. I fell head-first into this 350 page scratchy black and white comic and read it all in one wild evening. The story follows a set of very messy trans people, several literally haunted by a violent ghost from their pasts. Collin, Vivian, and Andrew orbited each other as awkward, horny trans teenagers, trying to define the edges of their own identities through sex, alcohol, long tumblr posts, and Rocky Horror shows, mostly without supportive parents. Vivian died at 17. At 26, Collin in a cam boy and weed delivery guy in NYC during the early days of the pandemic; Andrew has de-transitioned, married a man, is trying to get pregnant and has sold quotes to an anti-trans journalist writing opinion pieces about the dangers of minors transitioning. Multiple times while reading this I found myself thinking "a cis person could never have written this;" its so deeply steeped in trans longings, fears, desires, neuroses, rage, yearnings, and hope. It's not an easy or safe story; it doesn't have a fully happy ending. But I consumed it and it consumed me in return. If you are struggling to find this book available in print, it is possible to read the whole story on the author's instagram page.
Breathe: Journeys to Healthy Binding by Maia Kobabe and Sarah Peitzmeier read by Sarah Peitzmeier, Kieran Todd, Blair Baker, Alejandro Antonio Ruiz, Livvie Lin and Kiebpoli Calnek
I finally sat down to listen to the audiobook, which was narrated primarily by my co-author Sarah Peitzmeier along with her research partner Kieran Todd, and the wonderful cast of Blair Baker, Alejandro Antonio Ruiz, Livvie Lin and Kiebpoli Calnek. It was such a pleasure to hear these characters' voices come to life, and see how the workbook and stretching exercise pages were handled! Obviously I am very proud of the print edition which contains my illustrations; but I am so happy that the audiobook exists as well, for anyone who prefers audio (or likes to take in audio and print side by side).
Kochab by Sarah Webb
One day when out skiing, Sonya's scarf is stolen by a flying snow spirit. She chases it deep into the forest and breaks a ski after a reckless jump. Lost without supplies in the dead of winter, Sonya follows the faint trail of light and finds an impossible palace inhabited by one sleeping fire spirit, Kyra. Kyra's home was once bright, full of life and community. Now it is derelict and crumbling, under attack by the forces of ice. This is a slim story, fairy tale-like. I wanted a little more from the plot, given the book's length; but the pages are stunning. Everything from the character movement, background designs, color choices, to dynamic panel layouts impressed me. I know I'll be looking through this book again in the future when I need some visual inspiration.
Buckle Up by Lawrence Lindell
Lonnie's parents are recently divorced, and he's still getting used to splitting time between two different houses- one with his mom and older sister, one with his dad. He's still getting used to being picked up by alternating parents from school, and he's trying to hide these facts from his friends. This short, tender story uses the framing device of these car rides to show Lonnie facing some weighty conversations with his parents. The majority of the book takes place in the car and I really loved seeing how Lonnie learned to speak up for himself, to work through problems, and verbalize his emotions. Highly recommend for elementary school readers, especially ones experiencing big feelings.
How It All Ends by Emma Hunsinger
Tara was "accelerated" from seventh grade straight into high school at the advice of some of her teachers, but in the first few weeks of school she feels deeply unready. The school is so big, the schedule confusing, the hallways packed, and her end-of-day English class is full of some of the rowdiest, rudest boys she's ever met. Tara would much rather stay at home playing pretend with her baby brother or go back to middle school and take the eighth grade trip to Six Flags that she had to miss. Even with her older sister, already in tenth grade, willing to lend a hand by drawing her school maps, showing her the dating reality TV show everyone is talking about, and taking her to hangouts in the park, Tara is struggling. But there's this girl. A smart, funny, interesting girl, who partners up with Tara for English assignments and laughs at her jokes. Meeting this girl might just be the one thing that makes high school worth it. I had such a fun time with this comic- it's full of whimsical daydream sequences that really show Tara's internal world. I highly recommend this, especially to anyone who felt (or feels) unready to leave childhood and enter teenagerdom.

A thing I think about A LOT is the fact that when I started getting into dndads and was listening to season one I often doomscrolled the tags and I kept seeing Oakworthy content and didn't fully understand their dynamic/relationship bc I wasn't familiar with the characters so I developed my own mischaracterized interpretation of them based off the absurd amount of out of context fanart and posts I encountered HELP and then was quite disappointed when I reached season two and the canon didn't completely match my version... Current day me has a lot of all over the place feelings on canon Oakworthy tbh but I lowkey still hardcore vibe with my old fanon view on them? Let me explain (and expand now that I have the full picture) as much as I remember:
I knew Hermie was Scam's son and I thought this fact was clear from the get-go in the sense that the audience always knew but our protagonists weren't in the know until they actually met Scam. So I though Hermie was always this trickster type character who wanted to pull goofs and pranks to impress his father but lacked natural "scamming" talent and SUCKED at doing them and constantly failed - what is a REALLY silly concept tbh imagined it being a running gag or something... I always pictured him as a cartoony over the top theater kid villian cooking up evil Doofenshmirtz level schemes and I still wish he was that :(
Normal was always aware (or at the very least had a sneaking suspicion) Hermie wanted to steal the mascot suit (probably cuz I had this spoiled early on and didn't realize it was a twist) and had kind of an active distain towards Hermie because he knew he was from Chaparral and knew there was a constant chance Hermie would get his grubby little hands on the outfit. So that's right ladies and gentlemen I THOUGHT THEY HAD A SORT OF RIVALS SITUATION I STRAIGHT UP THOUGHT THEY WERE ENEMIES TO LOVERS FOR SOME REASON HELP... Hermie always wanting to steal the suit to the point of obsession, dubbing it as "his greatest scheme yet" only to always be stopped by Normal in some dumb, probably accidental way until Hermie realizes that he in fact was not obsessed with the mascot suit BUT WITH THE PERSON WHO WEARS IT and subconsciously always wanting to steal it was just part of his Joker persona and their romance blossoms from there.... Like imagine how hard hitting all the "we gotta stop meeting like this" and "I knew you liked me" teasing banter would be if they were on the brink enemies
And after Hermie gets involved in all the saving the world stuff, Normal lowers his guard and develops a genuine relationship with him thinking he has changed and genuinely wants to help our heros until BOOM! BETRAYAL! Because "it was nothing personal"
I don't think I understood what happened afterwards BUT I THINK YOU GUYS GET THE VISION YOU UNDERSTAND IT! Like it's not a huge change but this would've been so FUN... if season 2 ever gets adapted into another piece of media like a graphic novel or a tv show (doubt it EVER will but hey I can dream so let me dream) where they have more control over the writing I would love to see them rewrite their dynamic to be something more akin to this...
#would wanna add more but I'M SO DROWSY RN FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON#hon rants lol#hon rambles lol#hon's headcanons#<- maybe???#dungeons and daddies#dndads#dndaddies#dungeons and daddies podcast#dndads season 2#dndads s2#dndads quest#oakworthy#dndads oakworthy#normal oak#normal oak swallows garcia#hermie the unworthy#hermie unworthy

What's this Fence comic you're posting about? The art and the passion have got me intrigued.
ohohohohoho you don't know what floodgates you've just opened.
so basically it's a series of graphic novels (and 2 novels) detailing the life and times of nicholas cox, who is the illegitimate son of a US fencing champion and wants to become the best at the sport to be noticed by his father, but also its INSANELY gay and full of both sillies and angst and like gay people being crazy about having a crush
the main ship is between nicholas and his rival seiji katayama who is this perfectionist, overachieving (in my opinion) complex character with a dramatic backstory who doesn't really care for nicholas all that much UNTIL they end up being roommates (!!!!!). it's basically set up to be a rivals to lovers but since theres like 4 volumes a year its the slowest slowburn i've ever read. seiji is also my personal favorite character so im kind of insane about him. im also insane about nicholas but like in a hes so me way yk?
then you have like every other ship dynamic imaginable: childhood friends with seemingly unrequited love who try to ignore their feelings for each other, sunshine little dude and giant who doesn't talk to anyone, over-protective and super-supportive boyfriend with quiet, studious partner who has to keep him in line, and one that isn't really confirmed but i personally think it's gonna be canon: enthusiastic jock who loves his friends vs spoiled rich kid who is actually incredibly lonely (i hope they head this way with his characterization but i feel like we haven't seen enough). and all of them are queer!
it's also obviously a sports series, and as a fencer it's the first time i've seen the, i think, very complex dynamics that exist in this sport portrayed so well!!! i definitely identify with the characters a lot and i think they're easy to get attached to, and i feel like the sport is also well explained (except my qualms with the epeè slander, it's the best weapon). the writing is also witty and just plain fun. i know i focus a lot on ships here but there's truly a lot to mine about the importance of sports and team efforts and the relationship an athlete can cultivate with their desire to win that can either be positive or turn sour. or maybe i'm just hyperfixating
either way, if you have the chance, i'd definitely check it out!!! it's gotten me back into writing and has me in a chokehold rn. i love all the characters and theres a LOT of amazing works of writing and art in this tiny but mighty fandom!!!
#ask#fence comic#fence cs pacat#im also CRAZYYYY about harvard and aiden#nicholas may be gay person with a crush insane behavior manual#but aiden went to school in the course and graduated with honors#and dont get me started on my jesse headcannons.... to me he is so important#some of the tea in this series is also crazy like wdym youve had beef since 1992....

4. Hi! "In the mood" ask...I was wondering if anyone knows of any fics where someone (I was thinking Lan Qiren but it doesn't have to be) starts having suspicions that Lan Wangji is "following in his father's footsteps" and that Wei Wuxian isn't a willing partner in their relationship - a wrong assumption, but I'd like to see people opposing LWJ to be protective on WWX's behalf! @therealscarymarlowe

7. Do you have a list of stories with ‘modern/present’ Wei Wuxian and ‘ancient/xianxia’ Lan Wangji?
It doesn’t particularly matter if Lan Wangji meets present day Wei Wuxian thanks to being immortal, suspended animation, time travel, dimension hopping, or something else. It’s just the clash of modern and ‘ancient’ sensibilities that makes it fun. I’m delighted every time I come across one!
(I’m not really sure what I would search for to find more of that sort of story myself, since the mechanism of their meeting has been so different each time I’ve found one). @ladysunami

So in the new DP graphic novel, it’s confirmed that Dan is barely weaker then Clockwork, assuming Danny is half as powerful as he is, does that help the theory that Danny is stronger then Superman?
SPOILERS FOR THE DANNY PHANTOM GRAPHIC NOVEL A GLITCH IN TIME
I will be leaving the rest of this response under the cut nonetheless, just to cover my bases.
I do own the graphic novel myself (I've read it multiple times, every time within half an hour lol) and I don't actually know if it's been confirmed how powerful he is? Obviously he does manage to best Clockwork the first time, although they inevitably break apart between Vlad and Danny's best efforts. But I don't know if that's simply because Dan is just that powerful or because of his nature in general. Let me give you an excerpt of what I'm thinking about:
Page 162, from Clockwork himself:
"He's been outside the timestream too long. His structural integrity has been compromised."
Of course the GN (I will be using this going forward to refer to the graphic novel, just so you know) also gave us a bunch of new DP lore about ghosts and what gives them powers. And from my understanding of the GN, ghostly powers (perhaps halfas specifically, if you'd prefer to headcanon it that way) are based entirely on a person's emotional and mental state of mind. Much like Jazz pointed out in the GN, it could be a psychosomatic response.
Therefore, it's very likely that whether Danny is more powerful than Superman is entirely based upon Danny's mental health at the exact point in time they fight. It could literally change during their fight, even. They could fight three different times and one time end up with a clear Danny win, one time a clear Superman win, and once an even tie.
To a degree, it could be argued that it helps the theory that Danny is more powerful than Superman. In another perspective, it could be argued that it doesn't prove anything at all. It's rather hard to tell because the writing of the show in general has always kinda gone up and down in terms of Danny's power level. And when you're talking about crossovers that have never actually interacted in official media (physical paperback, webcomics, animation, live-action, whatever you might consider a canon crossover), it makes it all that much harder to say.
I remember once upon a time a similar argument was making its rounds on Tumblr, and someone mentioned something Stan Lee once said. I couldn't repeat it to you verbatim, but it was something about how it depends entirely on the author on what character wins in a fight. A simpler, more straight-forward way of saying that it would probably be: Plot Armor. It's all about plot armor.
A more complicated response would be: how does the surrounding context of this fight affect the battle in question? Are either of them brainwashed, being puppeteered? Do they really want to fight or are they doing so against either or both of their wills? How do their morals affect their efforts? Or their relationship with the person in question?
After all, in a fic where Danny and Clark are good friends or even father and son, Clark would be a lot more hesitant to fight and possibly injure Danny in comparison to a situation where Danny is more like Dan- largely without morals and regrets- or where Clark is more like the Injustice Lord version of himself. All these things really affect the overall course of the fight.
(A lot of it does come down to plot armor, or just plot in general. I could have Clark go all out, use the power of the sun to totally blow Danny apart, but at the end of the day if I want Clark to die, he is going to Die.)
I know this is long-winded, and maybe only slightly answers your question? But the subject is rather complicated and there's no one clearcut answer and I thought it was better to expand on it than just dismiss it with a simplistic answer. <3

Ah, right. It has been a while now since Disney formally de-canonized the old Expanded Universe for Star Wars. So it's understandable the name might not be familiar.
Galen Marek, codenamed Starkiller, was the protagonist of two hit games back in the late 2000s called 'The Force Unleashed'. Compared to a lot of other EU stories, they were a bit "bigger" relatively speaking in terms of hype. Like they were the first Star Wars games with PS3/360 generation graphics and a physics engine. Even getting their own novelizations and LEGO sets.
It was built up as kind of a "bridge story" between Episode III and IV. Revealing that while hunting down and slaying a surviving Jedi Knight, Vader discovered the man had a son that he sensed an extraordinary amount of Force potential in. The kid actually managed to Force pull Vader's lightsaber to his hands. Vader decided to eliminate all Imperial witnesses present so that he could secretly take the boy under his wing.
It was both a strategic move, and also a small sign of Vader's remaining humanity. Having his potential for growth hard-capped by his injuries meant usurping Palpatine on his own was no longer a possibility. But if he had a fully-trained apprentice almost as strong as him, they might stand a chance in a 2v1 ambush. The other reason though is that on some subconscious level, Vader was trying to regain the child he lost.
The basic premise of the whole story really sprung from the question "What if Luke was raised by Vader?". Starkiller has a REALLY fucked up relationship with Vader, in that he's his apprentice who's been put through an abusive training regimen from hell to forge him into a mighty warrior. And at that same time, Vader is also the closest thing Starkiller has to a father. With him desperately trying to please him throughout the first game. Despite it becoming increasingly clear that the part of Vader that considers him expendable outweighs the small part of him that cares. Even Starkiller's best friend is a combat droid that was programmed to fight him with the full intent to kill. They have a morbidly hilarious "I thought for sure I'd get you this time" friendship.
So of course it's quite cathartic when you reach the endgame, and Starkiller proves to be one of the few people besides Luke who can overcome the mighty Sith Lord in a duel. Sam Witner's emotional performance also really helps sell it.
...Boy this went off into a tangent. Anyway, yeah so I just think it'd be hilariously on-point if Nagito somehow ended up in that kind of nightmarish life. The depressing mirror image of the setting's "Ultimate Hope"/"New Hope". But maybe with a happy "Starkiller Lives" AU outcome. Since I've seen some fans do that, and have him be one of the first people that joins Luke's Jedi Praxeum alongside the likes of Kyle Katarn and Kam Solusar.
Ahh, I wasn't into Star Wars yet, back then. I had played Lego Star Wars on X-Box 360, but that's it. 😁 It's always cool to learn about fan stuff I didn't know about.
That definitely does sound like a role that Nagito could fit into! (Or Izuru, honestly, but that's neither here nor there. The best friend training droid could be a canon Danganronpa character, too.)

Reading list for this month!
(Rb or like if you decide to read one of these titles after seeing this, I love knowing if I’ve inspired anyone to read things I have! It’s fun)
Pond Snail Robber
“The delightful and brutal life of living with a robber! Ji Ho ends up missing the deadline to apply for a dorm due to a slip of carelessness but luckily a sunbae from his major helps him get a room nearby. Unfortunately, not even half a day after moving in he gets attacked by a robber. After managing to get away, Ji Ho later comes back home to see the robber shedding tears over the novel he wrote in high school...But this robber, with the reason of wanting to continue reading his unfinished novel, asks to live with him in exchange for taking care of the house?! The sweet and fierce life of these two has started!”
(I wouldn’t say the description is totally great at describing what’s actually happening but it’s good at hiding spoilers of what the actual circumstances ended up being and it’s kinda a funny joke about the “robber” part once you read it. Also, it has the cutest unique font design ever, a snail!”)
Boyfriends.
“Want a boyfriend? How about 4?! Meet Prep, Jock, Goth and Nerd -four boys with a lot of love to share!
A comic about getting yourself a boyfriend... or multiple boyfriends! Four college students begin a polyamorous relationship and navigate the adventure that is their dating life!”
(I freaking love this, it’s really smooth and fun, and wholesome. As someone who’s poly you don’t get a lot of kind depictions of poly relationships, or there’s only threesome, foursome, or more being writing about for kinks or open relationships that aren’t poly or about polycules. The graphics are great on the eyes with lots of pastels, and each character has their fun personalities, not to mention actually including a trans guy within a gay relationship! It’s grand. 10/10 love Goth or wanna be Goth ahaa. Nerd is too adorable. Really recommend.)
Minmotion Syndrome
"The 600 million that was left to you, I’ll pay it off for you." Seo Taeyoon, who was dragged into the situation because of his father's debt, got angry and sneers at Park Jaein for being an omega after the latter made a sarcastic remark. Although Taeyoon detected Jaein's faint pheromone scent, he was able to identify him as an Omega. Jaein found Taeyoon interesting, as nobody else can really detect his smell, so he offered to pay off his debt in exchange for buying him...! Thus, Taeyoon now wears a leash designed for dogs. How would their dangerous relationship begin and end?”
(So this whole thing is so tongue in cheek so far, and absolutely not digestible for everyone, though I’m only at chapter 9. but the art, is phenomenal and I adore the styles for both characters. And well, it’s nice to see omegas which are characters designed to always submit and be mindless totally being the top dog. I like it when things don’t fit into boxes, it’s kinda like in any nsfw circumstances where someone typically assumed as having to be subservient, isn’t, because it’s not as cut and dry as that nor has to for, for instant when people are like big macho bois can’t “bottom”… if you catch my drift.~ Park Jaein is pretty mentally whomped aha, his “crazy eyes” are spooky hot. I’m so bad. Taeyoon is an omega hating alpha son of a poor drug addicted male omega SW (adult worker). It goes into their stories about why they’re the way they are, and I guess I’m hoping it works out and they don’t hate each other anymore.)
The Pizza Delivery Man and The Gold Palace
“Woowon has spent his entire life repaying debts with his mother as a result of his father's irrational business investments and gambling. When his mother falls unwell, she retreats to the countryside, where she struggles by herself. One day, Woowon is fired from his part-time job, and while searching for a new job, he is introduced to one as a delivery man at a pizza shop in a wealthy area by a friend. Not only was the food delicious, but the staff was also known for being attractive. Woowon, who had a dashing appearance, goes to an interview and immediately passes. Seo-an has spent his entire life being swayed by his father's greed, who would not tolerate even the smallest flaw. That was how he lived, chewing at himself with bursting panic and constant avoidance of people. One day, everything came to a halt and Seo-an locked himself up at home. Then, a person who had done him a tiny favor appeared. After a long time, he was no longer afraid of others. A young love story in which two people who are tired of life fall in love.”
Lover Boy (Jeky)
(I really adore the art here and that a moan character is an artist, it’s a trialing story for both of them!)
Ongoing reading list still reading from month prior:
-
What's with this strange dream?!
“Jungoh was just expecting to take on a part-time job as an assistant. What he didn’t expect was working inside people’s dreams with a cute, but grumpy shaman named Ibeom. And he certainly didn’t expect Ibeom to be cursed by a nightmare seedling!”
(Sorry I had to use this image, it’s hilarious.)
Night by the sea
“Kim Euihyun, who had given up everything due to reaching his limits, ran towards the sea with a child in his arms and was caught by an alpha, Yeo Taejoo. Euihyun, who is left with only debt by his father running away, was given money, a house, by Taejoo and even a job if he gives his body..."
Intoxicated
“Omega Shen Tingwei wakes up after a traffic accident and soon realizes something is very wrong. The people around him have no idea what an omega is, the local pharmacy doesn't carry his heat suppressants, and no one - including the doctor at the nearest hospital - seems to understand the reason he is feverish is because he's going into heat. Enter Lian Jue, a wealthy man with Emotional Deprivation Disorder who is struggling to balance running his company, appeasing his difficult family, and caring for his adopted son, Kangtong. When he encounters the heat-drunk Shen Tingwei staggering around the city and saves him from getting hit by yet another vehicle, the two men soon become entangled in each other's lives. Shen Tingwei is lost and helpless in a world not his own, and Lian Jue can't help but be drawn to the unusual stranger...”
“Shen lived in a place as a lawyer where there are three gender known: alpha, beta and omega however an incident caused him to be transported in a society where there are only two gender recognized: male and female.”
Is there a love at first sight in e-sport
“The Asian champion is free to take the girl to score points in the game. Finally, he brings a girl to Kaimai but finds that the other party is a boy. Mr. Champion left behind the online dating that ended before it started. When he went to train with the club, he accidentally had a little friction with another team. When the opponent's deputy captain showed up, Mr. Champion was instantly tempted to doubt life. When the opponent spoke, it was the "girl" he personally brought that day. Is there love at first sight in e-sports? Exists.”

Ordinary People by Judith Guest
"The things which hurt instruct--Benjamin Franklin. That was one of Arnold's favorites. Not true, though. The things which hurt don't always instruct. Sometimes they merely hurt."
Year Read: 2005, 2015, 2023
Rating: 5/5
About: The Jarrets are a typical upper-middle class family living in Lake Forest, Illinois. Cal is a tax attorney and the provider for his family, Beth the organized, efficient housewife. They have one son, Conrad, although they used to have two. Ordinary People presents a family isolated by grief and learning to find their way through it. The following triggers play major roles in the plot/themes of the novel and are discussed at length in the narrative and the following review. Trigger warnings: child/sibling death, suicide attempt (graphic), suicidal ideation, drowning, violence, blood, depression, grief, guilt, self-loathing.
Thoughts: I read this for the first time in high school, and like most assigned reading back then, I adored it while everyone else hated it. After nearly fifty years since it's been published, there are certainly books out there that handle suicide, depression, therapy, and grief better than this one (I've even read some of them), but Ordinary People was the first book I ever read that talked directly about those issues. I've never forgotten it or the way it attempts to both bring attention to and normalize them--it’s right there in the title. These are ordinary people, struggling with things that could and do happen to anyone. Occasionally, it can come over a bit dated, but on the whole I think it's survived time really well. It's not hard to picture the Jarret family in any decade.
I've read this so many times that Guest's writing is like slipping on a comfortable sweater. I enjoy the way the narrative slowly uncovers the history of the Jarret family, how they got the way they are, and why they think and behave the way they do. The relationships are complicated and interesting, particularly among the three family members: Conrad, the teenage son, Cal, the father, and Beth, the mother. Their relationships with Buck, the older son who is no longer there, also play a major role in the story.
The narrative switches between Con and Cal (which I think was a mistake, making their names so similar; even being familiar with this story, I mixed them up a few times). As a teenager, I found it easy to relate to Con and the pressure of simply getting through a normal day. His arc in the story is arguably the best as we watch him work through school, home, and therapy in the wake of a suicide attempt. Guest makes no attempt to gloss over the grim reality of those issues, the fact that they may be lifelong struggles, or that they often don't end in recovery. There is a slight privilege issue, given that Con comes from a upper-middle class suburban family that can afford treatment.
I thought I would find myself relating more to Cal as an adult, but the character I actually sympathized with more on this read was Beth. We don't have the benefit of her perspective (for good reason-- she's as isolated from the reader as she is from her family) and she acts quite selfishly, but I could better see the way grief divides her from her husband and son. Sometimes, the only person you can save is yourself. I cry every time I read it because it's so personal and so human, but it's ultimately a book I reach for when I need to be reminded that there's hope at the end of grief. Anyone who has ever been through something similar will see something of themselves in it.

[comic review] batman: the demon trilogy (1987-92)
this graphic novel collects three one-shot graphic novels about featuring ra’s al ghul. i don’t know if this disclaimer is necessary, but obviously all three of these stories are touched by the usual sometimes light, sometimes not so light touches of racism and (particularly) orientalism that pretty much always accompanies portrayals of this character.
batman: son of the demon (writer: mike w. barr, artist: jerry bingham) is the story of batman accepting the marriage ra’s tried to force between him and talia back in tales of the demon, and the two of them conceiving a son together. it also involves a bunch of extremely james bond-adjacent cold war bullshit that made me roll my eyes, but it’s not like i haven’t ignored that kind of stuff often enough for it to be pretty easy to shrug off at this point. honestly, i didn’t really love this story, especially when batman started getting all weird and chauvinistic in being overprotective of talia and their unborn baby towards the end of the story. it was just kinda awkward and weird. c-rank
batman: bride of the demon (writer: mike w. barr, artist: tom grindberg) sees ra’s get married in an effort to produce an heir, and it’s… i don’t know? evelyn is barely characterized at all. she’s an actress who is upset about losing her youth, and ra’s uses an upgraded lazarus pit to give it back to her. the relationship never really makes any kind of sense in my opinion, and that made a lot of the stuff around it really difficult to invest in much. also batman and talia did their usual “is she on his side or is she on her father’s side and do they love each other etc etc” dance. this part was alright, though. honestly maybe the strongest part of this particular entry in the trilogy? c-rank
the last story is batman: birth of the demon (writer: dennis o’neil, artist: norm breyfogle), which tells ra’s al ghul’s origin story. this is probably the best of the three stories, in my opinion, but it’s not like it stands head and shoulders above the other stories in this volume. this kind of stuff just isn’t what i come to batman for, but i felt like i couldn’t avoid it because it was on so many lists of essential batman reading. c-rank

Pride 2024 - Day 20
Movie: Wilde
Made in: 1997 – Set in: 1882 – 1897
Starring: Stephen Fry, Jude Law, Michael Sheen, Jennifer Ehle, Tom Wilkinson, Zoe Wanamarker, Ioan Gruffudd, Vanessa Redgrave
Rated R for: Sexual content and nudity (buns)
Based on the true story of Oscar Wilde, who, after starting an affair with family friend, Robbie Ross, begins his relationships with young men. But his romance with Lord Alfred “Bosie” Douglas leads to a legal dispute that brings Wilde’s downfall.
It’s a pretty good biofic about a very talented man who greatly suffered due to love. His relationship with Bosie brought him his greatest happiness and yet his biggest sorrows. It’s heartbreaking but also entertaining and thought provoking.
Spoilers under Keep Reading Line
Nobody dies during the movie but the end credits mention when everyone dies and that Oscar and Bosie didn’t last long after reuniting.
I saw the movie a few years ago because Stephen Fry was in it (I’ve always been a big fan of his, I think he’s a great actor and a wonderful person) and I’ll be honest, I had forgotten most of it by the time I watched it again this time around. I think it’s a great movie that I would gladly watch again. Even though it had a lot of sex in it, it wasn’t anything too graphic and at this point in the review series I’m getting used to these movies having sex in them. I’ve always enjoyed Oscar Wilde’s quotes but have never had the chance to read any of his works (but I have seen the Importance of being Earnest) and I liked what of his work was included in the movie so I’ll have to look into his poems and novels. I feel bad that Oscar had to go through what he did and though I understand Bosie had been through horrible things due to his parents, his father especially, I think he treated Oscar terribly and thought the two should have just gone their separate ways. Seeing Oscar in the state he was in while in prison left me a little emotional and I felt really sad seeing how it all ruined him but it’s nice to see that his work is still greatly admired and he lives on instead of just being forgotten.
Mom’s Thoughts: The movie is a pretty good portrayal of Oscar Wilde’s life after he discovered he was a homosexual. He has already married Constance and soon has two sons with her. I’ve always been a fan of Stephen Fry and thought he did a great job playing the role of the Irish playwright. I’ve always liked the Oscar Wilde quotes I’ve heard and admired his wit. It was sad that people couldn’t let a person follow his own nature, no matter what it may be, and imprisoned a man of Mr. Wilde’s talent for being a homosexual. Even though it’s no longer a crime, there is still a cruel stigma associated with the lifestyle, one I would like to see end in my lifetime (and I’m pretty old). This is a good movie to watch even if you are not a fan of Oscar Wilde and I would watch it again, even knowing how it ends.

Maus- a memoir you should read
Hi! I read this graphic novel as a part of my english course and ended up reading its second half in the same sitting. Needless to say, I definitely recommend this to you.
Maus (Maus I and II), is a graphic novel in a comic strip format detailing Vladek Spiegelman, a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust’s accounts of Hitler’s Europe and living through it. It also details the lives of Art Spiegelman, his son, as he deals with the guilt of being a second-generation survivor and not actually living through the horrors his parents had to endure.
The Plot
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Maus tells the story of Vladek Spiegelman, a Jewish survivor of Hitler’s Europe, and his son, a cartoonist coming to terms with his father’s story. Maus approaches the unspeakable through the diminutive. Its form, the cartoon (the Nazis are cats, the Jews mice, the Poles as pigs, and Americans as dogs), shocks us out of any lingering sense of familiarity and succeeds in “drawing us closer to the bleak heart of the Holocaust” (The New York Times).
Maus is a haunting tale within a tale. Vladek’s harrowing story of survival is woven into the author’s account of his tortured relationship with his aging father. Against the backdrop of guilt brought by survival, they stage a normal life of small arguments and unhappy visits. This astonishing retelling of our century’s grisliest news is a story of survival, not only of Vladek but of the children who survive even the survivors. Maus studies the bloody pawprints of history and tracks its meaning for all of us.
Why you should read it
Let’s start with the format. The events seesaw with one side being Art, the son, talking to Vladek, his father, as Vladek accounts his life as in that time, and the other side Vladek’s life as he did his best to keep him and his wife alive. The formatting does not take away the truth and seriousness of the Holocaust, but it does balance it out with some much-needed lighter conversations where survival is not the only motive.
Its accounts of the Holocaust. This read depicts the Jews as mice and the Germans as cats (there are a thousand allegories you can take from that one), the Americans as dogs, and Poles as pigs. But despite this representation, it does not have any humour per say. It is a very much matter-of-fact recounting of starvation, survival, violence, and plain suffering.
The depictions of the Jews, especially Vladek and his family. Art’s parents, Vladek and Anja Spiegelman, were two Jews from Poland who survived through the Nazi ghetto of Sosnowiec and the extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. They were survivors and they bargained and used up favours in order to do this. Vladek saw the gas chambers used to exterminate Jews (like vermin, like mice, you can’t help but read into that one).
Vladek was portrayed as a very flawed man, whose flaws did not disappear with what he lived through and I loved his portrayal. He was not painted as a victim who gave into the sufferings of Jews, or a survivor who was a beloved hero or anything like that. He was a flawed person who ate snow for days to survive and more, and I loved that.
Art and Vladek’s relationship. I loved that this book delves into Art’s guilt of not living through all his parents survived, and his feelings of competing with his (dead) older brother. It makes Maus a very holistic representation of not only the Holocaust and Hitler’s Europe, but also the years long after that and the effects that proved to be lasting through generations.
Its important to know that, as talked about in the book, this book is based closely on the author, Art Spiegelman’s father’s memories of the death camps and Hitler’s Europe, hours on hours of research and took a total of whopping 13 years to complete.
All in all, I recommend you to pick this up, regardless of how old you are!

Book Review 2: Electric Boogaloo (2022 Edition)
hello, everyone, I'm back once again to talk about the books I've read for 2022!
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Goodreads Book Description: Go and catch a falling star . . . Tristran Thorn will do anything to win the cold heart of beautiful Victoria Forester—even fetch her the star they watch fall from the night sky. But to do so, he must enter the unexplored lands on the other side of the ancient wall that gives their tiny village its name. Beyond that stone barrier, Tristran learns, lies Faerie, a world of lords and witches . . . and the most exhilarating adventure of the young man’s life.
My Goodreads Review: (Warning! Contains spoilers!)
(I gave this 4 stars)
Now that I’ve finished this book, I’m not entirely sure what to say about it other than I felt very mystified reading it. It was interesting to see the difference in ending between the movie and the book (since I saw the movie long before reading this), and I like the ending of the movie more. I’m not gonna expand too much upon that, but I was glad that it was more of an adult fantasy novel. It felt realistically magical and I enjoyed reading it, though Yvaine’s characterization is a bit off to me. I think that her feelings toward Tristran could have been shown in a much more natural progression, I don’t feel that the book truly did Tristran and Yvaine’s relationship justice? I think it could have been tweaked a bit. I also am slightly annoyed that his name is Tristran and not Tristan, because I have no idea how to pronounce Tristran correctly and it’s awkward so I’ve been more or less ignoring the fact that there’s another R in there. I’ve been reading it as Tristan. Also, I thought his mother was unnecessarily rough with Tristan? I feel like she should have been more delighted to see her son for the first time in 18 years rather than saying “I ask you ONE time to rule Stormhold and THIS is how you treat me?” It felt sort of gaslight-y and I wasn’t down for that. I sorta like that she had cat ears, though, that was cool. Not to mention the graphic sex scene that was somehow included in there?? It threw me for a loop seeing it just kinda sprinkles in toward the beginning of the book. I don’t think it really fit with the theme of the story and it felt out of place and jarring the way it was introduced to us. I also don’t understand why he was happy to see his sister, when through his whole life she’s been nothing but a bully to him. I feel that should have been addressed more, as well as the passive aggressiveness he was shown by the woman his father married and he had perceived to be his mother. ALSO, Victoria marrying the older shopkeeper feels weird, I don’t like that. I don’t know how old he is but the way they describe him in the book makes it feel like he’s too old for her, especially if she’s either the same age or a year younger than Tristan. Her age wasn’t very clear, though, like the only part of it that’s clear is that they’re close in age. I preferred the character of Humphrey being the romantic rival for Tristan, considering he seemed to be about their age as well. I appreciate that Victoria wasn’t as entitled in the book as she was in the movie, though it was way more satisfying seeing Tristan sort of stand up to her rather than simply being like, “If you’re in love with another man, I wish for you to be happy and nothing more,”. It does make sense, considering he cared for her enough to travel literal months to find a star for her. One thing I did quite enjoy about the book as opposed to the movie was the more dynamic nature of the environment and the more zany characters that were encountered along the way, (such as the weird little hairy man and the sentient forest that tried to attack them, for example.) Considering this is possibly the longest review I’ve written for goodreads, I’m going to stop here. All in all, it was a wonderful read and I’m happy I spent the time to go through it. (Shit, that was so long sorry lmao)
2) The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
Goodreads Book Description: Seventeen-year-old Molly Peskin-Suso knows all about unrequited love—she’s lived through it twenty-six times. She crushes hard and crushes often, but always in secret. Because no matter how many times her twin sister, Cassie, tells her to woman up, Molly can’t stomach the idea of rejection. So she’s careful. Fat girls always have to be careful. Then a cute new girl enters Cassie’s orbit, and for the first time ever, Molly’s cynical twin is a lovesick mess. Meanwhile, Molly’s totally not dying of loneliness—except for the part where she is. Luckily, Cassie’s new girlfriend comes with a cute hipster-boy sidekick. Will is funny and flirtatious and just might be perfect crush material. Maybe more than crush material. And if Molly can win him over, she’ll get her first kiss and she’ll get her twin back. There’s only one problem: Molly’s coworker Reid. He’s an awkward Tolkien superfan with a season pass to the Ren Faire, and there’s absolutely no way Molly could fall for him. Right?
My Goodreads Review: I gave it 2 stars but didn't write a separate review for it. I remember really not liking it, though
3) Heartstopper: Volume 1-4
Goodreads Book Description (Book 1): Charlie, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, meet at a British all-boys grammar school. Friendship blooms quickly, but could there be something more...? Charlie Spring is in Year 10 at Truham Grammar School for Boys. The past year hasn't been too great, but at least he's not being bullied anymore. Nick Nelson is in Year 11 and on the school rugby team. He's heard a little about Charlie - the kid who was outed last year and bullied for a few months - but he's never had the opportunity to talk to him. They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn't think he has a chance. But love works in surprising ways, and sometimes good things are waiting just around the corner...
(I didn't add any more cause the first book sort of summarized the series)
My Goodreads Review: (I rated them all 5 stars but didn't write a separate review for any of them)
4) Blackwater by Jeanette Arroyo, Ren Graham
Goodreads Book Description:
Riverdale meets Stranger Things in this debut queer YA graphic novel, developed from a hit webcomic. Set in the haunted town of Blackwater, Maine, two boys fall for each other as they dig for clues to a paranormal mystery. "For fans of Heartstopper and Teen Wolf." —School Library Journal Tony Price is a popular high school track star and occasional delinquent aching for his dad’s attention and approval. Eli Hirsch is a quiet boy with a chronic autoimmune disorder that has ravaged his health and social life. What happens when these two become unlikely friends (and a whole lot more . . .) in the spooky town of Blackwater, Maine? Werewolf curses, unsavory interactions with the quarterback of the football team, a ghostly fisherman haunting the harbor, and tons of high school drama. Co-illustrated by Jeannette Arroyo and Ren Graham, who alternate drawing chapters in their own unique and dynamic styles, Blackwater combines the spookiness of Anya's Ghost with the irreverent humor of Nimona.
My Goodreads Review:
(I gave this 5 stars)

Book Blurb: Tag along as #1 New York Times bestselling author KAMI GARCIA (Beautiful Creatures) and artist GABRIEL PICOLO, the creative duo behind the New York Times bestselling TEEN TITANS graphic novel series, as they continue with the action-adventure of a lifetime. Raven Roth, Garfield Logan, Maxine Navarro, and Damian Wayne are on the run…from Slade Wilson, from H.I.V.E., and from the horrible experiments H.I.V.E. conducted at their expense. But where will they go? Who can they trust? Dick Grayson just wants to know what happened to his brother, Damian. Is Damian okay? Does he need help? Why hasn’t he been in contact? And why did his tracking device go silent? One thing is for sure—they all need answers and there is only one person that might be able to help the them defeat H.I.V.E. for good.
Review:
Picking up where the last three books left off, Damien, Raven, Maxine, and Gar are all on the run from slade Wilson and H.I.V.E.. This book then introduces Dick Grayson, Damien’s brother and Bruce’s adopted son. Dick wants a relationship with Damien and is worried about him, so he goes to search for him. This book mainly focuses on the brotherhood and relationship between Dick and Damien. I adored Dick and Damien’s relationship in the comics, with Dick being the almost father figure to Damien and constantly taking care of him despite his gruff and spiky personality. Let me first start off with what I think this book did well, it was take a new take on their relationship. Yes it’s been mentioned and done a few times, the strain on how Damien and Dick view their relationship in terms of being the son Bruce wanted and being the one he chose. I think its great that this comic highlights how much of a brother Dick is, he is caring and does want to build a relationship with Damien. I don’t know if this comic will further introduce Jason and Tim, the other Robins and sons that Bruce takes in, but it seemed kind of strange how Dick felt so much younger while Damien was aged up and how that impacted their portrayed relationship. I adored the batfamily and especially the relationships between the robins because at the end of the day they’re all brothers, they all care about each other despite the strain about who is a robin and who is the favored one from Bruce. Now onto the things I didn’t quite enjoy as much, the romance for Damien wasn’t really in my interest, and honestly the story has not progressed that much since the last three books. Damien felt a bit OOC but I guess that can happen when you age up a character and try and take a new spin on them. Overall the artwork was gorgeous but I think I might have to drop these comics because I love the batfamily so much and this just felt a bit to OOC for me to want to continue onwards with it.
*Thanks Netgalley and DC Entertainment, DC Comics for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
