Emerald Normington + tv tropes

DETERMINATOR: A character — good or evil, male or female, young or old — who never gives up. Ever. No matter what.

BROKEN BIRD: These characters (often female*) are coping with a Cynicism Catalyst, Despair Event Horizon, or Dark and Troubled Past by becoming as cynical, stoic, and/or badass as possible. This character was a hero herself once and failed miserably, or maybe she was abused in some way as a kid; whatever the case, her cynicism undoubtedly stems from some traumatic event in her past that destroyed her faith in just about everything.

ADORKABLE: Adorkable characters are fictional characters whom the audience finds irresistible and cute because of their dorkiness, nerdiness, enthusiasm or vulnerability. Maybe they're socially inept or shy. Maybe they're really clumsy. Maybe they have some really, really conspicuous character tic that tends to earn them weird looks. Maybe they're just so darn sweet, that it borders on embarrassing. Heck, maybe they're just an out-and-out nerd.

MISSING MOM: Perhaps she died. Perhaps she left and there's bitterness involved. Missing Moms are considered more unusual than missing fathers, and they are more likely to have their absence explicitly explained (usually with death). This might be because a man can theoretically leave his baby-mama at any time after getting her pregnant (or she can leave him), but a woman carrying a baby to term, giving birth, and then abandoning it, is rarer. (Emerald never knew her mother until recently and she misses her. Finds out she was in prison. all this time though?)

HARD DRINKING PARTY GIRL: The cheerful, playful, often inebriated party girl. She's usually a Pretty Freeloader without a care in the world and avoids some of the more inane plot lines of a story. This is only because she's somewhat capable but embraces the chaos that comes.  She'll also channel her perverted behaviour into playful teasing of the lead male (if there is one), or even the other female characters! (Emerald uses partying as a vice sometimes when life gets tough but she's working on it)

NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE: A character almost dies but is given a chance to or is forced to return. Often overlaps with It Is Not Your Time and My Life Flashed Before My Eyes. (Her Uncle stabbed her and left her for dead if it wasn't for her cousin saving her when she had)

HEROES LOVE DOGS: The surest way to show that a hero is undeniably a hero and an awesome guy is to show him hanging out with and totally loving his dog. It's his dog. Who ever heard of an awesome dude that doesn't love his dog? Think of this trope as being the physical manifestation of Pet the Dog. If a character has a dog which is around him constantly and whom he is always nice, respectful, and loving to, then that means a scene literally cannot go by in which he does not Pet The Dog. So of course he must be noble and good at heart. (Emerald has her dogs and loves them to pieces)

FUN PERSONIFIED: The character who's always fun and games, no matter what tone the story takes. They're not necessarily the same as a comic relief since comedy is not really their point, but rather positivity as a whole. They do have a similar role though, acting as a mood-maker who shields others from feelings of despair or doom and generally prevents the plot from getting overly grim. Of course, if the story does start progressing towards an inevitable darker tone, then it might be necessary for them to take the backseat, leave or even die altogether.

"I never thought I'd say this but... I'm bored. Even being here." She gestured at Level Up as she sat with someone, slurping a frozen drink. The last time this happened was when she was down in the dumps bad time, she was hoping that wasn't the case now. "Want to head someplace else?"

UPDATE ON MY CHARACTERS

EMERALD: since last year emerald has convinced herself that she's put her mother behind her but once receiving a letter from her she's unfolding, wanting her mother back in her life in any way possible. her dog, danger, has passed away. danger lived a long life for a pug but she's still very upset about it and is holding on for dear life with her other pug, sly. travelling to and from new york is taking a toll on her but she doesn't want to quit being a manager of one of ocean's art galleries and is struggling with talking to her about it considering her other partner, filip, is wanting to propose to ocean. emerald doesn't want to let her down. in the back of her mind she wants to ask kenzie to move in with her or find a place for them both in town somewhere, she thinks she's ready for that kind of commitment as she's lived on her own for quite awhile now.

REECE: his dream of a community video gaming centre came into fruitation late last year as contruction snags were finally dealt with. he spent most of last year renovating and buying computers and systems and figuring out a layout. he plans on opening in spring this year. he hasn't had any luck in the relationship department but is finally considering looking for a long term thing.

CLARE: ended her toxic relationship since last year after having friends tell her she wasn't being herself as of late. is more happy now that that has happened, not realising the state she was in. her photography has lessened because of it but with a couple of weddings booked clare feels like she has another chance to pop off again. she also has fully given her father her blessing to marry his girlfriend and they plan on getting married in may. cllare's looking for a relationship now, a more healthy one, but nothing for long term for right now.

CARINA: her open relationship with opal and akira are still on going. opal is also seeing someone else and that someone is none other than her close friend from the hospital, elijah ramos, and she's trying to be okay with that. akira has worked with her to try and be in gabby's life but without carina knowing, he's planning on moving back to england. after mateo tried taking gabby to europe and having argued about it with her for most of the year last year it finally came to a head and it ended with gabby coming between them and saying she will spend half the year there and back in town the rest of the year. it's been almost a month now that gabby has left and carina is trying her best at being okay with it. she's also trying to be there for her cousin who's having relationship troubles, and for theo too. her writing's also been on the back burner during all of last year that maybe she has to find the time for it this year somehow.

PAX: his graphic novel has been out to several publishers since late last year but he still has not heard back yet. he's wondering if his father or mother has anything to do with that seeing as they're all still not on speaking terms with each other. he's trying not to let that bother him and it is working as his relationship with margot has lasted nearly three years now. he considers himself very lucky for that. unbeknownst to him though his best friend august has had strong feelings for him for awhile now not sure if he should speak on it because it might cause trouble and he doesn't want pax to break his heart.

PARI: middle of last year she was kicked out of bear's. their friendship is now at odds. it's not like it was before and pari misses that. she's been living at the motel in town with bear paying for it. she's been job hunting and might look into getting her job back at copper fig's but she first wants to get herself clean again. being kicked out was a wake up call for her.

AMY: asking kaia to officially be her girlfriend amy is happy but something in the back of her mind is saying otherwise and she's pushing that away wanting to stay in a relationship with someone who does in fact make her happy even if they're both from very different worlds. business has been blooming more it seems since last year and finally having several dependable employees she can rest fully and not work too hard. had a close call at the end of last year as her brother barrett got into a car accident, their tour bus and a transport collided and almost went of a mountain. it scared her so much that she hasn't had him out of her sight as he's been back home recovering. she was reminded of the car accident that she was in with her parents and the repressed traumatic memories she pushed down are now seeping out.

DEACON: still continuing to post having 'the best time of his life' in his 'new life' as he seen from one of his exes friends post that she's seeing someone new now. it's only been a year and some so it was like a punch to the gut, like the day she had left him that day. he has nobody to talk to about it so he sleeps around trying to get over it without any success. he's waiting until the warmer weather comes so he can get his fix of golf, one of his favorite past times.

JAKOB: he's not sure about his relationship status anymore seeing as how his friend admitted to her feelings for him and kissed him at that with absolutely no returning feelings from him. he's grown fond of barton point in the years he's been here for though and is considering settling roots down. maybe his relationship should end for that to happen?
