This series was made by the same guy who did Higurashi When They Cry, and I think the two may be connected. Idk, there's way too much lore in Higurashi for me to wrap my head around, but if you like that series, then look into this one.

Gannibal Vol 1: Masaaki Ninomiya
Tumblr media
Absolutely vile. The psychological terror of people at the end of their rope and lovingly drawn body horror is a pretty great. I'm not sure about the story yet mostly because things are moving a bit slow.
This is about a police officer that goes to a tiny town where people say cannibalism is happening but finds a town full of people suffering and scared.

hi kyla! do you perhaps have any slice of life manga recs that would feel just like a sunny day in late spring when everything is in bloom? you know, the classic… heavy topics and philosophical are great, but would love to read something to immerse myself into this feel :)
hello lovely!!! my apologies for replying sooo late!!! nevertheless, i'm so delighted that you thought of asking me for recommendations!!! i have been thinking of which mangas fit this beautiful description of yours, and these are the first ones that came to mind:
1. Hirayasumi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
⤷ definitely the first one to spring to mind! your perfect slice-of-life with beautiful spreads like these, be it spring or summer. this is basically like a dear friend to me. when you are trying your best living life in the best ways you can, it will let you know. loving the mundane, coming to appreciate the quotidian hustle and bustle. finding a place in this world. we'll be okay.
2. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⤷ of course, I had to include this manga. a coastal slice-of-life where Alpha, the protagonist, runs a small coffee shop and likes to take photos whilst she gallivants with her scooter and meets new people. can be bittersweet at times, but is overall such a great and warm episodic manga with breathtaking colour pages. i urge you to check out the OVA as well, as it fits the sunny day in late spring more!
3. Akanesasu Zakuro no Miyako
Tumblr media Tumblr media
⤷ love this little manga about a boy who started living with his aunt in Spain. meeting new people, trying to acclimate with a new culture and environment, and of course, getting to know his own aunt.
4. Kobato
Tumblr media Tumblr media
⤷ my favourite from CLAMP. could be quite heavy, but it's just so wonderful! not going to say anything else, just check it out yourself! and if you are familiar with CLAMP, you should know their ornate and intricate art. check out the anime as well! great stuff. it's CLAMP, you'll love it (you should) (not a threat)
5. Third-Generation Chemist Kyubee
Tumblr media
⤷ this manga is so cute! miku is succeeding her grandfather's apothecary shop and aids to people who come. breathtaking art that reinforces great allegories on complicated and unperceived feelings.
some more: Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Musashino Rondo, BL Metamorphosis, Mikazuki March, Zassou-tachi yo Taishi wo Idake, Dobugawa, Usemono Yado, Chirori, Maison Ikokku, Cross Game.
i'd give you some more, but that's all for now! i have lots from my list that i have yet to read as well, including: Yotsuba&!, Mushishi, Seshuusei Triangle, Neko to Watashi to Deutschland, Miyori no Mori, Green: Nouka no Yome ni Naritai that i think might suit your liking.

Moriarty the patriot
--------------------------------------
Author : Ryosuke Takeuchi
--------------------------------------------------
Illustrated by : Hikaru Miyoshi
--------------------------------------------------
Genre : Crime,mystery,thriller
--------------------------------------------------
Plot :
In the late 19th century, the British Empire has become a global power. Due to the strict class stratification, the average citizen has little chance of successfully rising up to the top, where the despicable nobility rules over them all.
The first son of Earl Moriarty, Albert Moriarty finds two orphans, Louis and his unnamed brother, that share a common hatred for the corrupt British nobility and adopts them as his brothers. They scheme together to kill Albert's cruel biological brother William, burn down the family estate, and start a new life together using illegal means to destroy the class system and Louis's elder brother takes William's name and identity.
While enacting an elaborate scheme to murder a noble who was hunting commoners, William encounters Sherlock Holmes, who deduces a third party was involved in the murder. This piques William's interest in Sherlock, leading him to test his abilities by framing Sherlock for murder.
Thus ensues a battle of wits between two of the greatest minds the world has ever seen
--------------------------------------------------
I was introduced to this anime by a friend and ended up loving it.
Later on I read the manga.
The series is full of mystery, thriller and adventure. It explores different themes like cruelty, etc.
I'd recommend it to all those who love mysteries.

A new manga published today with an interesting premise of a tower that had the ability to pause time by "recycling" everything, including people. "Maison and the Man-Eating Apartment" documents a society living within seconds of destruction. Very heavy influences of Made in Abyss and Tsutomu Nihei's artstyle!

Hello, how are you? Just want to say again, thanks so much for this blog of yours. I got many great anime recs from you and I learn lot, too (you made me interested in the meaning of flowers). 😆🤩😁
I really love how passionate you wrote your posts and when you answered questions.
Because you have inspired me with a lot of great recommendations and your lovely reviews, do you mind if I also share some of my favorite manga and anime series?
A.) I Want to be A Wall
This is my all time favorite. It's completed with 3 volumes. The story is about ace woman who married a gay man. They don't end up in romantic sense but have a great platonic relationship with each other. Bonus the mc is also a fujo....
B.) My Love Mix Up (Kieta Hatsukoi)
If you're a fan of romcom, then you'll love this series! It's completed with 9 volumes. The mc is so funny and such a disaster bi. This story focused on m/m relationship with a great m/f side ship!
C.) Banana Fish
I was really surprised when found out that it's a shoujo. So this series is my no. 1 favorite shoujo ever (no. 2 is "I Want to be A Wall" and no. 3 is "Akatsuki no Yona") and the mc is my all time favorite character (he is still in my top 5 fav). The drama and action scenes are amazing. And I adore the bond between the mc and ml. I love both the anime and the manga. It's completed with 19 volumes manga and 24 episodes anime.
D.) Stars Align
It's a sports anime with a heavy LGBTQ themed. The story is so good and the characters are great! The only sad thing is the anime is cut off so they only have 12 episodes. You'll not regret it after finishing it.
E.) Wotakoi : Love is Hard for Otaku
You can't imagine how excited I am when I know that you also love "Kiss Him Not Me" anime. I love it. Have you read the manga? Oh, spoiler, the 2 guys who like Serinuma, actually end up together...!
Now, this series (Wotakoi) is a story about otakus that all worked in an office. It's more of a slice of life/romance, completed with 11 episodes and 3 OVA. Bonus the mc and female lead are both fujos!
Another thing, the mangaka behind Wotakoi and Kiss Him are also BL mangaka.
F.) Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
I just love this series so much! The action scenes are so cool! And the characters' dynamics are great! It's completed with 12 episodes.
Bonus!
♡ Classmates - Doukyuusei
It's one of my first BL anime. And it's one of my favorite anime to rewatch. Their relationship is so sweet. When you finished it, I think you should read the manga, too. When reading the manga, we can also see their relationship grew. It's completed with 7 volumes.
Sorry for this long ask. If you don't like either of the title above, I'm sorry. Hope you can find new favorite, too, @frostfires-blog 🌻
Hello again; I am fine, and how are you? Thank you for all your support! I'm constantly blown away that there are people who actually enjoy reading my ramblings and learn from them...
Tumblr media
I truly appreciate recommendations, but I often feel guilty that I often only get around them way later than anticipated. For a while now, I've been going through a lot and have been struggling to manage my time as a result. Consequently, my watchlist has grown significantly and is often further delayed by the influx of new seasonal releases. One of my resolutions for this year was to finish the manga for several anime series that I've enjoyed that haven't received sequels. I've kept putting this off, but I really want to do this since many of the manga I've been keeping up with are ending soon, have already ended or are on hiatus. Thank you so much for the suggestions, but I hope it's okay if I put them on my list and don't check them out right away. On another note, I don't mind people accidentally recommending something I've already seen, especially when I like said series as it allows me to talk about it. Although I should probably try to post more about the more obscure series I have watched... If anyone has any ideas on how I can do that then let me know.
‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗
A.) I Want To Be A Wall Wow, this premise sounds really unique! I barely read manga series that don't have anime adaptations—since I typically like having a base to better visualise things—but I definitely want to check this one out when I have time.
B.) My Love Mix Up I've been wanting to check out this series for a while now. I've been holding off in hopes that it got an anime adaptation since there's a drama adaptation...but I should probably give up and just go read the manga at this point.
C.) Banana Fish Although I've never read the manga, I watched Banana Fish anime back in 2022. At first, I was also surprised to learn that it was a shoujo series—but in hindsight, I think it makes sense and wouldn't categorise it any other way. Off-topic, but I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos about the shoujo manga industry from @Colleen'sMangaRecs and it's really changed the way I perceive shoujo and josei animanga as a whole. I've realised that I allowed internalised misogyny to hold me back from acknowledging a lot of shojosei series I liked. As such my top 20 series list now is almost completely different to that of 3 to 5 years ago. Getting back to Banana Fish, my favourite part of the series was definitely the compelling character dynamics and music. Ash and Eiji's bond is so nuanced and intricate. While I think it is a good show, I really was caught off guard when I watched it and probably shouldn't have watched it during the timeframe I did. While I'm very glad that we have a series like this, I tend to favour series that are a bit less heavy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
D.) Stars Align I haven't seen this series, but I've seen a random scene of it online before and damn I was shocked...For reference, it was the flashback of how one of the characters got the burn on his back... I haven't seen a sports anime in a while so I should probably back into the genre sometime...
E.) Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku Wotakoi is actually one of my favourite josei series! I've finished both the anime and manga. It's practically the only romance series where I like all of the canonical pairings. While the series' music, voice-acting, humour and character dynamics are all great, an underappreciated aspect of this series is its setting. Most modern romance animanga tend to be set in high school so it's really refreshing to see another environment for once.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ P.S. I have read the Kiss Him Not Me manga! I really enjoyed the series' ending, I'm glad she made the right choice! While the series does have its issues, I still think that it's overly criticized. In all honesty, what mid-2000s shoujosei series is not a little problematic? I think many people forget that comedy is one of its core genres and interpret a lot of its narrative and themes far too literally. (Spoiler Warning!) Just before I began reading the manga, I learnt that Nanashima and Shinomiya had gotten together, which surprised me because they appeared tense with one another, and I had always shipped the former with Igarashi. After finishing the manga, I can confirm that they totally make sense and are actually quite cute together. I didn't know that they both produce BL manga as well—though in hindsight, that makes sense. In my defence, I don't know much about most mangaka. I really should check out their other work then...]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
F.) Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens & G.) Doukyuusei I haven't heard about either series before, but I'll look into them when I'm able to.
‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗
Thanks for sending in an ask and for all the recommendations! I'm sorry that I can't check them all out immediately though. I'll definitely start working on clearing my watch list and reading list. I actually plan on putting out a poll soon to help me decide which series of my top picks I should start with...

The Summer Hikaru Died Vol 3 | Mokumokuren
Tumblr media
This horror series follows a young boy, Hikaru, disappearing into the woods, and coming back as something else. No one seems to notice that the real Hikaru is dead. I really like the setting here. The late summer heat with its loud buzzing flies, popsicles, and mugginess like boil off the page. And I think the relationship that's building is so uncomfortably bizarre but I think I'm losing the plot a bit. A bunch of new characters are introduced in this volume and I just don't quite see how it'll all come together.

First Impression: Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun
Tumblr media
Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun is about Hiro Momose, a young girl who was made fun of in middle school for her clumsiness and lack of stellar grades, especially by her delinquent classmates. Upon entering her first year of high school, she wants to give her image a complete makeover. But she isn’t the only one.
Momose joins the “Helpers Club” which is led by Dan Ichikura, a fellow student who is known for his serious attitude and excellence in both academics and sports. But Momose soon finds out that it is all a façade created by a former delinquent who wants to leave his fighting days behind and just live a peaceful school life. Will these two “opposites” be able to find common ground?
Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun is your classic “opposites attract”-trope with a spin on it. Momose and Ichikura are very cute together and I am enjoying their relationship so far. Momose can be very clumsy at times, but she is always honest with her thoughts and feelings. She also tries her best to help out Ichikura when his “delinquent” side slips out, despite her aversion towards delinquents in general. On the other hand, Ichikura may like to tease Momose, but he makes an effort to boost her confidence and remind her why she wanted to change in the first place.
I will say, considering we’re only on volume one, the main leads are definitely speed-running their relationship and it can be a bit hard to keep up with (though I am glad things aren’t being dragged out like other shoujo series). This is likely due to the fact that it was originally a two-volume series, but has since expanded up to at least seven at the time of this review.
Anywho, if you enjoy comedy, high school romance, and glasses-wearing delinquents, then Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun may be worth a read!
Thank you for taking the time to read this review! I hope you will check out Alice in Mangaland for more manga reviews in the future! Arigato gozaimasu! Thank you!

Do you have any other Ryoko Kui Oneshot recommendations? I just read the last ones you mentioned and i absolutely loved them
Honestly! I recommend all 3 of her published one shot compilations, they are all REALLY GOOD
You can read about each of them on this post, the text is from the english pamphlet of the Ryoko Kui Exhibition
A few that really stuck with me other the ones I've already mentioned here (wolves tell no lies, perfect communication and how to be that girl) were these (the order is just the order I remembered them)
The Dragon's School is on Top of the Mountain: The titular story of one of her published works, it makes me think about a few parts of Dungeon Meshi where Laios is trying to find an "use" for monsters in the surface. I really enjoyed the idea of trying to make dragons "useful" so they can continue to exist, it's very bittersweet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Home: From the same collection as the previous one, it's about what happens to The Hero of the story after he has defeated the big evil, in the perspective of the simple villagers from his hometown. Makes my heart ache. Other stories in this collection have a similar theme of "story after the story" what might have happened after the conclusion of an adventure but this is the one that stuck to me the most
Tumblr media
Spring and Autumn: Two oneshots from terrarium in drawer that tell the same story in different perspectives. Quite possibly the best "what if humans were pets" story I've ever seen (I've seen at least 2). I cried so hard, I'm crying right now 10/10 don't let the premise scare you off
Tumblr media
Distant Utopia: Terrarium in drawer is AMAZING but here just one more to maybe convince everyone to read, children are tasked with creating a story about "bullying persecution and discrimination", end up realizing things aren't so simple as they first thought
Tumblr media
A Modern Fairytale: Ok dragon school might be my favorite one shot collection. This one is about a fantasy creature (centaurs) living in modern times, and the struggles that might cause in society alongside humans. It's a really interesting and grounded take that I don't think I've even seen before (Plus the centaur wife that shows up in short sections is adorable)
Tumblr media
Mermaid Sanctuary: From Seven little sons's of the Dragon like wolves tell no lies. A guy finds a mermaid that keeps trying to go into land for some reason. Everyone tells him to leave it be cause "mermaids aren't human, they're just animals that mimic humans" but he decides to help her anyway. It's very interesting with how it portraits mermaids
Tumblr media
That's it for my favorites! I really recommend everything by Kui tho, I had to stop myself before I just listed all the oneshots
Btw you can buy Seven Little Sons of the Dragon in english

Manga are are known for their printing within a portrait dimensions, however some series like to break this traditional mould for narrative or aesthetic purposes with rotated, landscape artwork for their covers... Cover Collection — Sideways
