 Momo in Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent has quickly become one of my favorite female leads! I admire her determination and how she is willing to try and put herself out there despite her history with “delinquents.”

She is exactly everything I love in a shoujo heroine! 🥹

Momose, a clumsy girl entering high school, has been targeted by bullies throughout middle school. Because of this, she’s developed a dislike for delinquents, and seeks to change herself.

Having joined the Helper’s Club at school, she meets Ichikura; a nerdy looking classmate who’s quite serious in everything he does, studies and sports alike.

Being in the same club, Ichikura feels comfortable confiding in Momose about his former status as a Delinquent. However, he too seeks to turn over a new leaf, and leave his old life behind.

Together they begin influencing each other for the better.

First things first, EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ME FOR A BAJI KEISUKE SIMP!! And this SCREAMS Baji(Tokyo Revengers) !! Sucks he didn’t have the long hair too, or maybe he had it in middle school?

Anyway…

This manga is right up my alley! It has pretty much everything I love in a romance troupe and does it right! It’s cute, and I feel like characters’ growth will be really sweet!

Ichikura will teach Momose to stand up for herself and have a better sense of self worth, while Momose will teach Ichikura that not fighting people can sometimes be the coolest thing a a person can do in times of difficulty. They’ll both teach each other how to become more mature.

While I am a little peeved I can’t read the chapters 5-27 due to a pay wall, I understand the necessity for digital media these days.

First Impression: Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun

Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun is about Hiro Momose, a young girl who was made fun of in middle school for her clumsiness and lack of stellar grades, especially by her delinquent classmates. Upon entering her first year of high school, she wants to give her image a complete makeover. But she isn’t the only one.

Momose joins the “Helpers Club” which is led by Dan Ichikura, a fellow student who is known for his serious attitude and excellence in both academics and sports. But Momose soon finds out that it is all a façade created by a former delinquent who wants to leave his fighting days behind and just live a peaceful school life. Will these two “opposites” be able to find common ground?

Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun is your classic “opposites attract”-trope with a spin on it. Momose and Ichikura are very cute together and I am enjoying their relationship so far. Momose can be very clumsy at times, but she is always honest with her thoughts and feelings. She also tries her best to help out Ichikura when his “delinquent” side slips out, despite her aversion towards delinquents in general. On the other hand, Ichikura may like to tease Momose, but he makes an effort to boost her confidence and remind her why she wanted to change in the first place.

I will say, considering we’re only on volume one, the main leads are definitely speed-running their relationship and it can be a bit hard to keep up with (though I am glad things aren’t being dragged out like other shoujo series). This is likely due to the fact that it was originally a two-volume series, but has since expanded up to at least seven at the time of this review.

Anywho, if you enjoy comedy, high school romance, and glasses-wearing delinquents, then Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun may be worth a read!

There has been something so special about Momo and Ichikura’s relationship in Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent! 🥰

It’s one that I can’t get enough of and is currently the only manga series where I will own the English volumes AND Japanese volumes! 😱🤩
