Secret Boyfriend

Jason met his boyfriend in a rather peculiar way: he was doing his usual rounds, disposing of the dregs of society with a couple of bullets and offering shelter to hapless victims when one of his victims began to...revive?

The easiest way to put it was that the bastard turned glowing green, and Jason had collaborated enough times with Justice League Dark to know that something supernatural was coming.

Before the whole process was complete, however, another portal opened and out stepped a pretty pissed off guy. The spirit that had just been born was intimidated by the new spirit and Jason could only watch dumbfounded as the twink destroyed the former serial killer with scathing words and scolding.

He was instantly smitten and began flirting with the rabid spirit. It wasn't long before Danny reciprocated his flirtations and well, Jason could tell it was the best thing that had happened to him all year.

On the other hand, the Batfamily was worried about Jason's constant disappearances and his sudden calmness. Fearing the worst (and seeing that they couldn't leave a matter unresolved) they decided to investigate, much to the chagrin of the Crime Lord who responded to their interrogations with deflections and continued to hide his boyfriend as best he could.

Danny thought it was a fun game and just went along with it. Tim was stressed and wanted to get it all over with.

Whooping crane (Grus americana), a large crane species native to North America. Populations decreased after European settlement due to hunting and habitat loss, and in 1941 there were only 15 adults remaining in the wild. it's pretty remarkable how easily the first 80% of birding skill is just "looking at stuff" and "going to a place intending to look at stuff"

which is, in fact, a skill people have to learn! but it only takes like an hour to teach it & once someone learns it, they are GUCCI, and it opens up the WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD—

i had a dude on my bird walk this morning who was clearly doing this for the first time (he asked me to sign a little form for the class he's in b/c going on a bird walk counts for some kind of credit, haha)

so he LIT THE HELL UP when we saw a red-winged blackbird, i think it must've been first one he'd ever seen in his life—he's like "oh my GOD what a cool BIRD look at him GO!!! wow!!! are these common??? this is so cool!!!"—AS HE SHOULD, to be clear, red-winged blackbirds are majestic and stunning and i love them like burning

but after a bit of exulting he's like "wow! we never have birds this cool back in Florida!"

and i'm like. oh buddy. i bet there's more birds back in Florida than you think

"nah i'm pretty sure it's just alligators"

dude later on tells me that actually he spent most of his childhood in Mexico, but he "never really saw birds there" (!!!)

anyway i introduced him to cool techniques like "looking up" and "going to a park" and "following chirp-y noises to their source"

(which, to be clear, are absolutely not intuitive techniques!!! everyone's gotta learn this stuff for the first time!!!)

and he totally lost his MIND when an osprey went overhead & asked for a list of other bird walks i'd recommend & seemed legit jazzed about doing this more

such a fun fucking time. i hope next time he's back home with his new superpower of Looking Up he gets his mind blown all over again

bird experts correct me, but I think this is a cinnamon teal duck? i'd never heard about them until i was trying to figure out what duck i was looking at for this post - they're quite beautiful!

The south-eastern shores of Granite Island, South Australia, taken whilst clambering across the boulders in search of little penguin burrows for an annual census. My team didn't end up finding any active burrows (in general they're a lot less common on this side of the island nowadays) although we did find one with hatched eggs and a ton of down.
