I once stared for a full 5 minutes at a gum tree on which (so I thought) 2 Tawny Frogmouths were sitting. After about 8 minutes, I realised there were actually 3. Oh wait, another 2 minutes revealed a 4th one. Their camouflage is insane. Also, one time in a wildlife sanctuary I got to hold one, and they are just the sweetest, softest creatures. And love scritches.

Hey folks! The Waymakers mileage challenge starts September 1, in support of the Young Center which fights for the rights of immigrant kids in the US. Funds go to getting kids in contact with family, getting school supplies for them, and other direct impacts. Like last year, I'll draw birds for those who donate here. I don't get anything from this myself, but donating there will send me an email so I can keep track.
If/when you donate, please be sure to let me know your tumblr name and what bird you would like to see!
And I'm so glad that I already have my first one done! Thanks so much to @chromatic-lamina for the donation, and the AWESOME suggestion of a Willie-Wagtail, I love these guys so much!

@todaysbird I need some help identifying something and I was wondering if you knew something about it;
We’ve got a whole bunch of king parrots that live around the house, and I’ve noticed that some of the adult females have peach-coloured spots on the end of each tail feather while some don’t (none of the males have these spots). I couldn’t really find any sources on it so I was wondering if you knew anything about whether it’s a colour mutation of some kind.

(They’re not the exact same feather because I only collect feathers from the ground, but the one on the left has the peach spot and the one on the right does not. Both are from separate adult females)
Technically two feathers is not a full bird so here ya go
