26. What’s your favorite CG in the game?

Ooooohhh, that's a difficult one– I love so many of them for different reasons– the Princess laying on the grass in Princess and the Dragon, Stranger with their hand on the doorknob in the Strange Beginnings ending, the Den pawing at us right after attacking (she just looks so Kitty ther ejssjsjmddmdm)– as you can see, I'm biased to the princess looking happy/hopeful, and also, Kitty. Oh, speaking of! The lead up to Wild from Witch where you're fighting as the roots grows closer, and for a moment, she's picked up in a way similar to how Shifty holds her vessels.

Ok, I watched Whiplash for the first time about a month ago and I MEAN- (I can't believe I haven't seen it earlier)

Amazing movie! I seriously think this is one of my favorite movies of all time now. Great acting, great cinematography, great editing, great story. Intense and thrilling in all the right places, the soundtrack is outstanding (obviously), the deep multi-faceted relationship between Fletcher, Andrew, greatness, obsession, and music. It's dark and I love it.

I had always seen clips of this movie, but I don't know why I didn't just go and see it, IMAGINE seeing this in theaters. damn. Anyway, this is a long winded way to say that I've been obsessed (which is also thematically appropriate) with this film. I've listened to the soundtrack multiple times, watched all the interviews, know all the fun facts, seen almost every Youtube analysis to man, watched all the fanedits, read the fics, watched La La Land, started going through Miles Teller's other movies like The Spectacular Now, Top Gun Maverick, realized JK Simmons voiced the yellow M&M and Ford from Gravity Falls and Cave Johnson and every other piece of media from when I was younger. I'm down so bad guys, help.

Please go watch the movie, if you haven't seen it! (Except if you're a minor, it's R rated sorry! But it's like the most asexual R rated movie I've ever seen haha) (And only if you're in a good head space, it's very stressful, there's yelling and abuse) It's about jazz drumming and passion turned to obsession. So do with that what you will :) It's on Netflix right now!

Besides my descent into madness, (as this is still an art blog haha), I'm really proud of this piece. I've really worked on my realism (can you tell?) and I'm getting to a place where I'm pretty happy with it. I also bought Corel Painter on sale recently, and now I can do cool text and stuff, I will be experimenting... Hopefully I can work on more art for this movie!

The Muse Theory

This is all just for fun, BUT it's plausible. Also, it may be completely debunked based on Sydney's timeline - that's still a mystery.

Theory: It would be an epic romantic plot twist if- Carmy first laid eyes on Sydney in New York. He remembers her, at least; he thinks he remembers her. He observed her as she ate his meal- the best meal she'd ever had, and after his shift, he made a sketch of her.

This was inspired by a conversation with @currymanganese and @yangsharperavery fanedit with my favorite song, "Favorite Faded Fantasy," by Damien Rice.

Carmy was going to tell Syd she looks familiar, but in Carmy's mind, it would seem creepy to tell a girl. hey, I remember seeing you at my restaurant, I didn't approach you, but I remembered that moment I first laid eyes on you. He's avoidant that way.

How did he see her eat his meal when he was in the kitchen? I noticed the new kitchen is similar Eleventh Madison Park, We didn't see what was in front of Carmy in the 1x02 episode hands but I'm guessing it was a window- one that Carmy can see through and watch a girl sitting by herself visibly enjoying one of his meals.

Since artists have a keen eye- he remembers her because of how much she inspired him at that moment. When he told Natalie in 1x02 Hands that people loved the food it had to do with watching Sydney eat.

Why keep this a secret? It's because he really liked staring at her - that was an intimate moment for Carmy- to stare at a woman like that - he hasn't experienced that kind of intimacy since drawing Claire.

True intimacy for Carmy is just staring at a woman, really just deep connection like that and I loved to be a part of something like that where it wasn't some sexy naked thing, it was just looking into each other's eyes.-Molly Gordon

Now, how does he remember Sydney when he couldn't remember Claire? Carmy remembers more than he lets on. He remembers Claire's address, but he can't remember the face or that she sat behind him in algebra class? This seems like he's avoiding it since he was ridiculed for expressing himself.

When Claire mentions the drawings- He lies and tells her it was shorts- when really it was Claire.

he mentions the designer that came into his restaurant, and it really inspired him to draw again.

Plot twist: what if it wasn't the designer that came into his restaurant- what if it was Sydney that evening, wearing her signature Thom Brown pieces.

So, during a grueling shift at this restaurant, he sees Sydney. He watches her as she enjoys his meal, and he starts drawing again on a napkin later that evening- the dream to draw again came back because of Sydney.

Is this far-fetched? I think not- this show has some serendipitous moments.

And is it stalkerish? Absolutely not- it's healthy and normal for an artist to have muse- too bad Richie and Mikey gave him a hard time about it.

Things that drive you crazy (not just annoyed) about Teen Wolf.

I'll start:

The FBI video of Derek running.

I've never heard people talk about it so I guess it's just my problem (?) but it drives me crazy that they recycled a clip from the first season to represent Derek Hale running away and getting caught on camera. How much cheaper do you still want to make your production??

Among other things, it's not a clip that didn't make it at the time, but it's exactly a cut piece of a released episode. I've seen better fanedits!!

Why do they treat us as if we happened to be passing and not fans of the series? Most people definitely don't get to season 6 by accident.

Number one, the show lost credibility because season 1 Derek is very different from season 6 Derek (the period in which the FBI footage should be set).

Number two, BUT WHAT DID IT TAKE TO MAKE TYLER HOECHLIN RUN AROUND SINCE THE ACTOR WAS THERE?!

This was one of Teen Wolf's lowest moments personally. I'm offended that they thought we wouldn't have noticed or that, perhaps worse, they still didn't care even if we had.

I don't find this fandom welcoming. I posted a few fics and there was barely any interaction. I joined a few discords and was shocked to see the amount of vague-talking about other bloggers. Not a nice place imho

Your main experience with it not being welcoming is barely interaction and bad discord servers?

Hm. This is a very limited amount of information and since this is anon, my opinion is heavily based on trying to guess the most likely reasons why this is your experience. With that said, my opinion is this:

What do you count as barely interaction?

Is it that your post 'only' got five notes? Ten? Twenty? Are your expectations built off of other fandom's notes, or fanfics that are a year old and have gotten the luck of being reblogged and circulated a lot more? The comparison game is a bitch and a half if you're trying to gauge that as how welcoming a fandom is. Because the truth of the matter is, even if you're writing the fanfic equivalent of Shakespeare, if it is not tagged properly, a super long fanfic with no readmore, posted on a holiday, posted on a weekday, etc etc, it can yaknow. Not be Seen a lot. And if you're just posting something you've made with the intentions of just being seen, rather than having fun creating, in a smallerscale fandom like this, unfortunately it will not meet your expectations at times.

I don't know why there is this undercurrent of belief that you have to be actively creating some kind of fancreation to be able to talk to people as well. In complete honesty, I have seen screenshots of the game with some event dialogue or something, five words written on the post, and it have like 100+ notes. Sometimes sharing just your thoughts on dialogue is enough to get conversations going if you got it tagged and etc. These are blogs made for sharing thoughts and interacting with others thoughts, whether those thoughts are fanfics, fanart, fanedits, commentary on the games, theories, ideas, incoherent yelling about your faves, etc etc.

Are you reaching out and talking to people on your own accord? Because I think that also plays a Huge part in being talked back to, and having what you create seen. If you're posting into the tags and it doesn't get seen for whatever reason, and you're not actively talking to others and making friends via communication... how are people supposed to see what you make?

I think people see what they deem 'popular' blogs, who are usually creators who just got very lucky, and expect to be treated like that very fast, and when they don't, they think there is something wrong with them and the fandom, when it's almost always neither imo. I think it can be a build up of frustration that is getting unfairly targeted at yourself at times (in this case, a general 'you' is what I am using here), or outwardly towards strangers because your post isn't being seen in a sea of posts. And then sometimes there is very unfair resentment towards 'popular' bloggers due to this, where it's sometimes seen as their fault for not 'engaging' with everyone when, again...sea of posts. People working 40 hr workweeks. People with a family they're raising. People going to school. Etc etc.

So... is it the fandom being unwelcoming, or is it a weird pressure you're putting on yourself and others for no reason?

In regards to the discord stuff, since I feel that is a bit separate:

Discord servers... hm. The vague talking you reference is also very vague, and I think that depends. Because what is the vague talking? Is it something like "man someone posted a really awful and harmful opinion regarding this mental illness a suitor had" with no name dropping, no link sharing, and someone just a bit bummed someone said something hurtful? Or is it like... "[blogger name] is a piece of shit because they did [unproven thing]".

Those are two extremes, and there could be many more examples that I would see as more '''''acceptable''''' referencing of someone (the poor mental health take example where no one is identified and no one is specifically going apeshit on the blogger, just sad to see something harmful), and then the bullshit of namedropping and being a cunt for no reason. There are layers to this! Context matters a lot and I am left with not a clear thing to comment on.

My advice for discord servers, regardless of the fandom, is this:

Look at the blogs of the people who moderate/own it. Do they meet your personal levels of safety? Or are they actively arguing with other people in the fandom with the intention of just being a dick?

Is the server for all ages or for adults? That usually weeds out some childish behavior. Does the server have rules? Are there rules set in place to essentially be like "hey lets not namedrop people and shittalk them for no good reason"? Are there rules against being a dick? And if there are rules... are there mods to enforce them? Do they listen when notified of the behavior? That matters A Lot.

I think I tried....four? Five? Different discord servers where I kept running into people I did not like, or I thought I got along okay with until they did smth out of the blue that made me go "yikes!".

Sooo... i blocked their tumblr accounts. And talked to other people. Those few folks I blocked did not spell out that they themselves were the entirety of the fandom... because there are hundreds of other folks to talk to, and I found a handful I enjoy and settled in with that. Trial and error of course, but I still found people.

Your experiences are different than mine, but unfortunately I cannot agree that those experiences alone mean that this entire fandom is unwelcoming. I think you had some bad experiences and I'm sorry for that, but I can't nod along and go "yeah this whole fandom is shit." essentially.

But, when I listen to it, I relate it to Jason and Bruce's dynamic with lines like "Just know, all the sacrifice had robbed me of my time" and "I left behind, everything you killed inside" Landon screaming the lyrics makes me wanna CRY you can hear the pain in his voice and that's just very Jason Todd to me lmao

Deep End by I Prevail. It's such a good song?????? (I used in a fanedit and they liked it on TikTok) but my mom knows every word because she has to deal with me and brother playing it lmao but the WHOLE chorus is super Jason coded "So I made friends with all my demons. Let 'em sink their teeth in. Got used to the feeling of letting it go. So give me something to believe in or throw me in the deep end. It all feels the same with your eyes closed. And Hollow - Lo's Version by Lo Spirit. I found him on TikTok (I swear I am not on that often??) and he's an INCREDIBLE vocalist. Art Update...

aka I'm alive and I really have been making art

So times like this when I have 10+ works in progress I start to feel like I'm pushing myself way too hard to be productive while simultaneously getting absolutely nothing done.

This general sense of frustration/disappointed with myself is made worse since I have...

a) spent several weeks on the road, with minimal opportunity for completing or posting any art (my jonsa Halloween piece was a miracle completed in a single day during a feverish state of a major post trip crash while I binge watched a bunch of horror movies- fanatically determined to speed run my enjoyment of October in the day or two I got to actually celebrate the Halloween season)

And

b) have been facing both miserably cold weather (if I wear any more layers when I go outside I will become so immobile that I'll have to rely on my dogs to pull me through the snow when we go for a walk) , a significant lack of daylight (seriously 4 pm is just an obscenely early time for sunset), and some of the same overarching sense of dread/disappointment in the the state of world that I imagine many others have been feeling

So to once again make this blog my happy space, give everyone an update, to hype myself up to feeling excited about completing/sharing some art- or just to remind myself that I've actually accomplished a lot in the last 4 months despite not having posted much- Im gonna give a brief list of what art I'm nearly finshed/ready to post...

1. First on the menu are some older completed works that I plan to post in the next couple days since i found a bunch of really old (and somewhat obscure) character portraits I did- (back when I was drawing on some old- and now defunct- version of my phone's notes app)

I briefly considered redoing these now that I have access to better digital drawing programs but I actually really like them as is, so that's how I'm going to post them... these are shamelessly self indulgent character portraits from some of my all time favorit book series,

I will be pleasantly shocked if anyone has heard of these characters but I loved making them and seeing them makes me desperately want to reread these series again so I'm genuinely happy about posting them for me and like the 2 other people on this website who know/ love these characters as much as I do (so i guess these portraits will double as book recs? Should i add a brief synopsis of these books to encourage people to check them out or should I just release them into the wild as is?)

2. I have a 90% completed portrait of Sansa with Lady which I just began earlier this week and have made excellent progress on -that I intend to post as soon as I'm finished

(It can be fun to challenge myself to incorporate different things in my art that I struggle with or at least tend to overlook in favour of other elements and as someone who only occasionally has incorporated animals into their work- depressingly the only ones that come to mind have all been the odd memorial portrait of beloved pets that I've made for family members over the years- i was pleasantly satisfied with my attempt in making an animal a major focal point in a fanart pieces.

I'm tentatively interested in doing other stark kids + their direwolves pieces (i know I know its been done countless times but what's the point of participating in fandom if not to dwell on/recreate/transform the same things over and over again for the same group of dedicated weirdos) but that plan will have to take to back seat for a bit while I finish up a different series of asoiaf art...

3. Lastly comes my major project from the last couple if months, a New Stark Family portrait series (this time based on book canon)

Been very in my stark family feels lately, feeling inspired by the many incredible artworks, metas, fanedits, and videos this fandom generates about these characters (because really who doesn't feel like appreciating a deeply loving but still mildly and fascinatingly dysfunctional family or you know having ones heart ripped out over the tragedies befalling an iconic/beloved group of fictional characters)

I have so far failed to get any of this series posted initailly because had decided I wanted them all to be (mostly) finished before I started posting rather than risk abandoning this idea half way (so like holding my completed artwork hostage to motivate me to complete the rest? ldk it made sense at the time).

But then when I had completed all but two of the portraits I abruptly decided that in the future after posting these individual portraits I would of course have to take all the individual sketches and reconfigure them into a single family portrait...which meant rather than simply evaluating each piece individually to decide whether I was satisfied with them/felt they were complete I would now have to compare them to one another as well to see if they would look like they would work next to eachother in the same art piece.

Cue an extra 3 weeks of work while I endlessly fiddled with and reworked their outfits, trying to come up with outfits that resonated with how I pictured northern culture in asoiaf + seemed suitable for a formal portrait of medieval nobility in a fantasy setting, suited each individual character, would also complemented one another once put in the same scene, but also didn't look too matchy (thus reminding me of some of the hilariously awful formal family photos I've seen where everyone looks like they're trying to recreate the sound of music including curtain fabric inspired matching outfits), this part took me almost as long as the initial portraits did- seriously i must have gone through at least 4 different outfits per character

After all this reworking I have finally come up with a decent idea for the outfits and have 7/8 of the portraits essentially completed with just one left to start (its Rickon and he's like a quarter the size of everyone else so surely this won't take me that long? Crossing my fingers)... so hopefully i will be posting these throughout december and can do the group piece some time next year!
