Man it makes me so bummed out that shows like Scorpion and Leverage just do not exist anymore, and not like the way I usually say "they don't make em like this anymore!" I mean literally if you went to an exec today and told them you had a show idea about:

A mainstay cast of 5-7 people with their own clear, distinct personalities and motivations

In a family dynamic that go through a new plot every episode

Over the course of 15-30 episodes per season with a 3-5 season run

Oh and each of those episodes are a tight 25 minutes, once you drop the commercials

We do a 40 minute episode ONLY for the season finale

They would look at you like you grew a second head. What do you MEAN shows don't work the way movies do and they need time and investment to gain traction! The Bear is like the closest thing to this but it's still so far away cause it's very much still a Streaming Era Show and the tone is just so radically different. The average media executive mind cannot comprehend a [Blank] Of The Week format anymore.

PEOPLE VS ACCURACY

TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ OPINION. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL IF YOU WANT TO COMMENT SOMETHING

My biggest pet peeve is people complaining about misrepresentation of a culture that's not even their own especially when MOST of the said actual people that has the said culture aren't even complaining about it and are even proud, and the complaint was towards a video game/cartoon/tv show that has a fantasy genre.

Yes, this post is about the most miserable side of the genshin community.

No. I don't think Germany have idols in their church, nor do China has birds that are actually divine beings who could turn into humans, or the Japanese people worship a certain god who has the control over thunder, nor do ancient Egypt, India, Persia, and Mesopotamia have magical plants or how France has gigantic magical crabs, a god who split herself into two parts and a magical machine that can determine who is guilty and who is not and nor do Hawaiian, Spanish, African, and Latino cultures have a blessing that can revive you after going to war and little dinosaur companions.

People need to realize and draw the line between reality and fiction. Genshin is fictional and is not supposed to accurately represent the people and culture they were inspired from.

People also need to realize the difference between inspired and based. Inspired means using different references and ideas to produce a new piece of creation. Based is having accuracies. Example is Demon Slayer which is a fantasy anime that is based on the Japanese culture. The show specifically mentions Taisho Era which is an actual period in Japan and they actually included real life references such as the Oiran walk. And Demon Slayer is also explicitly stated to be based of Japan.

The Genshin country I want to focus on discussing is Natlan. Natlan is inspired by Hawaiian, Spanish, African, and Latino cultures. Does this determine the characters Nationality? No.

Also, are people aware that not everyone from the same culture or country would have the same complexion? Skin color varies even between literal siblings. Not because this character is inspired from this culture or country doesn't automatically mean that they're supposed to have this-that skin color.

Mualani is not Hawaiian that's why she doesn't have to be accurately represented as a Hawaiian. She's from Natlan, a fictional place that has it's own culture that is inspired from real life cultures.

Chasca is not from Chile, she's from the Flower Feather clan of Natlan—another fictional tribe from a fictional country of a fictional game. She doesn't need to actually portray whatever she was inspired from because her nationality is a fictional one.

A lot of hate towards Chasca is often reasoned to be because of her misrepresentation of a certain culture. But all I see in tw!tter and t!ktok are people saying how ugly her design is because of personal preferences and kept on insulting the character's design to the point that I feel bad for tha artists behind her.

Look. People can have different opinions and express it. Even I wasn't a fan of her design. But.. maybe.. just maybe.. Chasca isn't for me? Chasca isn't for everybody. She will have haters and she will also have fans. If you don't like her, skip her. If you don't like her design SKIP HER DAMN BANNER. Chasca, just like every character, has both haters and fans. People don't need to COMPLAIN EVERY DAMN TIME.

But I really.. really don't get why people need to complain every minute and every second as if her design insults them on a personal level. If you don't like her, then she's not made for you.

This reminded me of how some people complained about Olivia Rodrigo's song "Ballad of a homeschooled girl". People are complaining that it's "not relatable" and "that's not what homeschooled is". Maybe because it was Olivia's experience and not theirs? Maybe because it's not for them? But not because it's not for them doesn't mean no one would relate to her.

Why do people also kept on comparing Genshin designs to other games saying that they're so downgrade and less detailed/worse?

I get that it's a matter or preference but maybe.. just maybe.. Genshin is an open world game where a lot of animations happen simultaneously and giving Genshin the same amount of animations as other games that are not open world would result to the game no longer being compatible to certain devices because of the power it would require.

This is what gets me when people write in depth analysis about how dumb they would be to not go there with queer Eddie and with Buddie. Like yes, I agree it would be incredibly stupid and bad writing - unfortunately as much as I want that to reassure me(and I’ll admit some days when I’m sad and need to not be I pretend to let it), it doesn’t. Just because it would be stupid and bad writing doesn’t mean they won’t do it. We’ve seen this show repeatedly make bad writing choices before. I’ve watched TV shows time and time again screw things up in the eleventh hour, I’ve seen so many shows set things up and then take a hard left turn into the dumbest plots in existence. And they get backlash for it but still do it. So as much as I want to believe that because logic and basic literary analysis says Eddie is queer and Buck and Eddie are each others’ best match - that isn’t a guarantee of anything. I’m also preparing myself that if we actually do get a queer Eddie storyline and buddie canon - there is a high possibility that they stumble through it in a ridiculous and poorly written way. I want more than anything for that not to be true but it is still a very distinct possibility.

this is exactly my feelings- like one of my biggest pet peeves are people making posts as if buddie is 10000% happening and there is absolutely zero possibility of it not going that way which i’m sorry to be a debbie downer once again but that’s just not true

what kills me is everyone in the fandom keeps talking about “it’d be so ooc for _______”, seemingly forgetting the fact that s7 was ooc for so many of the main characters to the point that we were all ragging on the writers about it… like if they were able to write a season so sloppy and terribly ooc what makes you think they won’t continue to do so, especially after tim just said “i don’t like to plan out seasons”

ooc writing happens in tv shows all the time. just because something wouldn’t make sense for a character/plotline doesn’t mean they won’t just do it anyway. like I’ve said before, tim has shown us that he only cares about shock value and drama- telling us himself in a interview that “i can’t just let them be happy, then no one would watch” (which is such total bullshit but this is the man who decided to make eddie have an emotional affair with a doppelgänger of his dead wife rather than just, yk, confirm his queerness)

i get it. it’s disappointing. you don’t want your favorite shows/characters to tank and go off the rails. but unfortunately, it has happened time and time and time again in network tv, and 9-1-1 is not immune to this.

i fully agree with the posts and analyses that detail how the show has set up buddie being the only satisfactory endgame relationship between them, and how it would be foolish and bad writing for them not to, but unfortunately (as you said in your ask) this show has made god awful writing choices frequently (literally the entirety of s7 is proof of that) and they have jumped through hoops to avoid buddie canon countless times— there is nothing stopping them from doing it again.

and this idea that just because they’re talking about buddie openly must mean they’re going canon is ridiculous. the short is reaching the end if it’s run; if it even gets renewed past s8, it’s very unlikely that they’ll go past s10 at the longest. they just moved to a new network, baited the fuck out of buddie pre-s7 and then didn’t give us anything and people are still watching. they know that as long as people think there’s a possibility of buddie canon that they’ll watch the show— it’s textbook queer/shipbaiting. 9-1-1 is not immune to this just because they’ve said “we don’t want to be accused of queerbaiting” in the past. we’ve reached a point where the network queerbaiting won’t cause enough backlash to warrant them being cautious anymore. it’s a dick move, yeah, but these creators are in this job for one thing: money. they have proven they don’t actually give a fuck about meaningful storytelling. it’s why they rely on cheap drama and shock value to get by bc they know people will tune in anyway.

i completely understand wanting to be hopeful and optimistic. i will forever be hopeful for the day that buddie finally go canon (although i hope they ditch the mustache before then because i don’t want to think of my alcoholic uncle when i see eddie kiss buck for the first time) and when it does i will be so fucking happy after waiting for 6 years.

but that’s the thing. i have waited for 6 years. i’m tired of getting my hopes up each season bc “guys this is literally the closest we’ve ever been there is no way they aren’t going to go there now” just to get slapped in the face by the showrunners and writers. i’m not going to get my hopes up about it just to be let the fuck down once again. and frankly, i don’t wanna see the fallout when we are let down again because people decided to convince themselves that it was 100% for sure set in stone happening when in reality it’s really not.

I think both of them would absolutely say that they are each other's best friends because they are. I don't think all couples are best friends, no matter how much they claim to be. Being a best friend is a special level - you have to be able to tell each other anything without fear of being judged, but you know that they will also be willing to tell you the truth - even if you don't want to hear it. They should be the first person they want to call when something good or terrible happens. They have to enjoy each other's company and laugh together. This is NOT every couple, but it is Tobias and Casey.

But it's important to have other friends, too, and they both know that. For Tobias, his other best friends would be Kerry and Sasha (OCs - more about them here) and Ethan.

For Casey, it would be Sienna and Bryce. She becomes very close with Kerry, too, but always respects the boundary that she is Tobias's best friend. She'd never want to put her in a position to feel she has to choose between them.

9... Are you a spiritual person?  If yes, what do you practice?

The answer here may shock - Casey was not - at all, but Tobias was. He is the perfect way of showing we don't know who people are at their core by what you see on the outside. He wasn't a holy roller, by any means, but he absolutely had strong faith. He grew up attending the church where his paternal great-grandfather was a pastor and a civil rights leader. Church on Sunday was part of his life as a child, he even served on the children's choir (which is where we learned he had a great voice.) Did he live a pious life? Hell no. But did his faith steer him throughout his life? Yes. It did. I wrote a fic about this, Just a Little Faith. Casey was agnostic, leaning toward athiest, and didn't believe in much. But after her near death experience, falling in love with Tobias, and becoming pregnant with their child, she started to have a shift in her point of view. This is one of my favorite fics :)

11... What is your favorite type of media (TV, movie, books, etc)?  Name some specific favorites (which shows, movies, books, etc do you like)!

They kind of like all of them. LOL But they're both avid book readers. I would say that's where they find sustenance, followed by movies. TV is something they enjoy, but it's more for relaxation.

Books: They both love non-fiction most of all, and there are many James Baldwin and Bell Hooks titles amongst their favorites.

Some of Tobias's specific favorites (I'll stick to books since they played a big part in how they fell in love) : The Covenant of Water (Abraham Verghese), Dying: A Memoir (Cory Taylor), Lies My Teachers Told Me (James Loewen), The Return (Hisham Matar), and The Alchemist (Paolo Coelho)

Ethan would build a modest but lovely home on a secluded private beach somewhere in New England. Very traditional, think shingle style, surrounded by beautiful landscaping and pure serenity.

Eva would love to have two small homes in her genealogical homelands of Greece and Cuba. Since Cuba is not a possibility at this time, she'd probably build in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic. In Greece, it would be on an island, but NOT Mykonos or Santorini! They'd be small, but comfortable, homey places.

after having instagram on my phone for three days i can now pinpoint i think my biggest pet peeves that make the app just completely unusable

videos that are framed against some adversary that either a. is just a miserable person online who criticizes everything or b. straight up doesn't exist. you could post something i'm completely interested in but framing it in this format is sooo annoying. for example i saw one today that was a video of some delicious-looking food. but instead of just being informative or being a nice video of some food it was framed as "him: why would you go to the mall for food? me: (food video here)" like who is he??? why do i care what he thinks? just show me your food!

videos that are focused on how exceptional either you or the content creator or both are for doing something. like "i do this all the time but apparently most people don't have an internal monologue?" or "people who watch reality tv are actually more intelligent than average people" like omg a. sorry yes other people do have thoughts. you are not the only person to have thoughts. i'm sorry if this is devastating to you. and b. this is just completely nonsense i don't have anything to say. your choice in hobbies does not affect your "intelligence" which btw is not even measurable come on.

this is a combo of the above two perhaps but videos which frame some new interesting thing by making a negative comparison to some other existing perfectly good thing which is completely different. example: "why would you go to paris or rome when you could go to (insert random italian mountain town here)?" well i'll tell you. it's because paris and rome are completely different places with completely different things to do from random mountain town and basically the only thing they have in common is being located in europe. hope this helps. like you have all this beautiful footage of this beautiful town! just share this? it doesn't have to compete with paris...

•Obsessed With Rambo, And Other wartime Movies or TV Shows Like Mash.

•Loves Horror Comics and Horror Movies, He's been obsessed with them since he was a little Kid especially Supernatural ones.

•He actively Trains For His fight against the Dangers of Santa Carla, Has studied various military tactics.

•Despite His Tough Exterior, He can Be incredibly Soft usually only towards his brother though.

•He's a Huge Nerd, He really is in various aspects. Couldn't Flirt with a girl his age even if it was to save his own life lol, probably because of how stiff and grumpy he acts.

I have a hard time explaining myself so we shall see how this goes 😂 I tend to be kind of quiet at first but the more you get to know me the less I shut up (ask my husband). I’m definitely outgoing, hardworking, and tend to forget to take time for myself because I get too caught up in things. Pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD because sometimes things get wild (like Jutty, iykyk). 9 times out of 10 my brain is working faster than I can keep up with 😂 Not much of a party girl but if you’re in my friend group, theres nothing I love more than spending quality time with my small circle.

I hyperfixate on things like you would not believe. Like when I like something I REALY like something, I’ll eat, sleep, and breathe it until it runs it course or it stays i.e. Supernatural, Starwars, Ghost, and Sleep Token. And then it will likely become a tattoo 😅

My heart is always with other people. I work in a field where I care for people with developmental disabilities and theres nothing that makes me happier than to see people who cannot succeed on their own succeeding even with help. I’ve been told I make a great leader in my field as well.

I’m also not someone who gets angry but when I do, someone really must have done something quite bad. I am a quietly angry person whose usually blowing up on the inside but you’d probably never know it other than the dead silence.

People who play villain characters and then cherry pick what they would and wouldnt do, yes my guy you are writing a monster who has and will continue to do terrible things. You do not have to write them out but they absolutely did happen and you dont get to just take that away bc they make you uncomfortable. Write a different character if you dont like that one being shitty like that.

one of my biggest pet peeves from the finale is the implication that ted ceased to interact with everyone in richmond once he returned to america. didn’t go to beard’s wedding? didn’t see sam play in the world cup? never brought henry to experience patented roy kent training? it’s just so weird and seems to be the antithesis of the show itself. —fic anon

Hmmm I think this doesn't actually bothers me! In part because I don't necessarily think it was implied that he ceases to interact with them. We didn't see enough of the "future" to know whether or not he's still still talking to these people. He could be taking annual summer vacations to England and texting Beard back and forth all damn day, for all we know! So if you'd like to envision that he was in the stands with Henry watching Sam, or that he drops by Richmond in a year or so to visit and check out how Roy Kent's running the place and catch a game, I think it was left very, very open for us to do so!

Not attending Beard's wedding is the only thing on the list that is definitely confirmed, and I will say it did strike me as very odd on first watch. But I ended up liking Brendan's response to that question in his Reddit AMA; He was basically like "Beard and Ted have the kind of relationship where they can go years without seeing each other, but then when they do it's like no time has passed." I have really wonderful friends like this myself, who matter so deeply to me but I rarely have a chance to physically see or even talk to. So that solidified a lot of things for me and in the end it felt right to me.

Personally, I think Ted absolutely still talks to many of them. I think it's been very established by the show and the writers themselves that Rebecca and Ted are (platonic) soulmates. I also like to think Nate regains the kind of relationship they had in season one, and the two of them are very close. They definitely send old-fashioned postal mail to each other across the pond all the time in the canon that exists in my head, lol. Like "Just thinking of you!" "Happy Corned Beef Day!" random cards and shit. I read a very lovely inlovewithnight fic that was set up as like press releases/articles/gossip columns set post-season, and a little part of it was that Ted comes back for an event at the Dogtrack and does a little meet and greet with fans. I really loved that. At the very least he's definitely watching all of Richmond's game still in America with Henry and supporting the team.

Overall, just because he's in America doesn't mean he's cut off from the world. It is an apple tv show, after all, and that means that all these people have iPhones that are critical devices to their wellbeing and used well and often 🫡

Jotting down things to remember

One of my biggest pet peeves is mysteries where the reveal has zero connection to the rest of the plot.

I'm looking at you, Pretty Little Liars.

Full disclosure, I haven't read the books. I want to. They are on my TBR. And I know from other people who have that there are some major differences between the books and the TV show. But knowing how the show ended, the reveal of who A had been . . . Well, no spoilers but there were literally no clues (in the TV show) until the final act. Like five episodes from the end, we meet A. Then we finally get A's connection to the Liars IN MIDDLE OF THE BOND VILLAIN SPEECH! ugh

And that is something I FEAR in writing mysteries. Will the reveal make sense? Will readers be angry about the reveal in all the wrong ways?

(I mean, it's okay for readers to be angry at the characters when they finish reading. I'm even comfy with some "WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU?!" anger directed at me . . . but not "I wasted precious hours of my life for THAT?!" anger. That's the opposite of a goal)

Have I laid out sufficient clues without giving it all away in the first chapter? At the same time, however, I've asked people these questions POINT BLANK and am still not satisfied with their answers. I am not 100% certain I'd be satisfied with anything outside of "No, you need to fix XYZ," so that's a me problem.

I think one of the most critical elements in a reveal at the end of a mystery is that the "bad guy" was visible all along. It needs to be someone the readers know and recognize but without hanging a sign on them that says, "IT'S ME! I DID THE THING!" There needs to be moments all throughout the story where the reader says, "I KNOW WHO IT IS!!" only to have their theory dashed on the jagged rocks below in the next chapter.

And that's where I worry I'm not qualified to do this.
