Big post with a whole bunch of species headcanons! Not every character is here and some headcanons have more detail than others simply because I happened to have more ideas for those

First I want to say that in my headcanon, avians and bird hybrids are different things. While hybrids (in general) are a mix of different species with any combination of traits, avians are pretty uniform in what kind of bird traits they have, and in general avians are genetically more similar to each other than random birds hybrids are to each other. With that out of the way-

Grian is a parrot avian, and he has a ton of vocal stims, from whistling and singing to mimicking noises he hears.

Martyn is a parrot hybrid, and he loooves to do silly voices and mimick creeper hisses

Gem became an anglerfish sea monster of sorts thanks to the water in Hermitcraft. The same happened to Mumbo (catfish) and Grian (cod). And also False but I don't know what kind of fish fits her </3

Pearl is also a fish, but in a different way. She's a salmon that can shapeshift into a human (or any mix between fish and human, like a mermaid)

Xisuma is a voidwalker. Voidwalkers are beings that form very rarely when particles and soul fragments lost to the void come together and become conscious. They're the only beings that can survive in the deepest part of the void

Voidwalkers are so rare that most of them live their whole lives without finding another living being, especially because they don't tend to leave the bottom of the void.

Because voidwalkers spend their whole lives in complete darkness, their eyes aren't super well developed. Xisuma's vision is blurry, he has visual snow, and he's very sensitive to light. His helmet actually filters out a lot of light so it doesn't give him a headache

His helmet also helps him breathe. Voidwalkers are not made for high pressure atmospheres

Etho is a phantom hybrid. He's allergic to cats and also the sun. He needs very little sleep. His silver hair is not a species trait, it's dyed

Bdubs is a glare hybrid, being scared of the dark is part of his glare instincts. The moss coat isn't part of him but I'm sure he could be mossy if he wanted to. He can probably fit inside a moss block

Tango is a blaze hybrid. Or a blazeborn? I imagine it's a similar situation to avians and bird hybrids but I haven't put that much thought into this one. And both blazeborn and blaze hybrid can be shortened to blaze anyways

She can't get burned, and water hurts him. Water breathing negates water damage

His flame naturally burns orange, but it can be other colors depending on what she's using as fuel. For example, the blue Dungeon Master look comes from burning soul sand

Her body temperature also depends on fuel. Normal, orange Tango freezes very easily, but blue Tango's body temperature is so high that he doesn't even feel the cold

He has tritanopia, as do all netherborns. There's only really two colors in the nether so beings from there didn't evolve the ability to see more than that

She can hover, which he uses mostly to break her fall and do big jumps

Because she can't touch water (without potions at least), he takes soul sand baths like a chinchilla. Yes, this makes him blue for a while

I think Nene had a genuine dislike for being touched and grabbed before the mainstory, kinda a sensory thing, but after constant handling from Emu it basically worked like exposure therapy and she’s alot more tolerant of it now. One might say she even enjoys it. She’s been……….. domesticated.

Emu has vocal stims that are just copying sounds her friends make. Tsukasa’s “WAHHH HA HAH!” and Rui’s “Oya?” Another one is just saying “NENE-CHAAAAAAAN” and holding the name until she runs out of breath.

Noise canceling headphones 24/7, you won’t find Nene without them now that her best friends are two of the loudest, excitable people in the world. If she forgets them she spends the entire day covering her ears and will be ESPECIALLY grumpy. Tsukasa Tenmas beware.

When Emu noticed that Rui was ambidextrous she thought it was so cool she tried to use her left hand for at least three weeks to the dismay of her teachers.

As kids, when Nene got less shy and more angry cat personality, I think she threw stuff at Rui all the time when he made her mad and to be fair it was deserved. What is a childhood friend without a bit of sibling-like violence💕? She’s also tempted to throw things at Tsukasa now but thankfully she’s grown out of that years ago. Maybe. If anyone has a shot at reviving old habits it’s Tsukasa Tenma. She just KNOWS a controller to the head could fix him.

Emu texts 10% words 90% emojis, highly specific stickers, and obsure gifs. Nene and Tsukasa occasionally have to screenshot her texts and send them to Rui to translate.

Nene is the most dogshit texter ever for literally no reason. Leaves everyone on seen and when she does reply it’s dry as hell. Emu gets special treatment, it drives Tsukasa MADDD.

♡ If Reader stims a lot, Dominic will, of course, try to find a way to make your stimming all about him; especially if you have a lot of physical/verbal stims. He'll try to be in close proximity to you so that, when you do stim, you're more likely to either catch/grab him (unintentionally, of course). If you're apologetic - even though it isn't your fault - Dominic will absolutely find a way to guilt you into feeling bad about it, even when his veneer tells you that it's fine, it happens.

♡ Guilt breeds indebtedness - that's what Dominic has discovered. So, fresh off the wave of panic you're feeling, he'll ask you to do something for him that will require you to stay longer, during which time he'll see if you physically stim again or not. If so, he refreshes the process. Just like printing money.

♡ If you verbally stim and, say, make some kind of animal noise, he'll absolutely try and romanticise it. If you meow, he'll call you "Kitty," giving you a warm smile and a good-natured laugh. If/when you become more comfortable around him, he'll start calling you "Mon Minou," - My Kitty. He's one Discord server away from calling you Kitten.

♡ If you suffer with OCD, he'll start manipulating the physical environment to trigger you. Never in his own house, though. You need someplace as your safe space, right?

♡ He'll never verbally trigger you himself, either; nor will he allow any triggers to exist in his house as to try and reduce the likelihood of you having a negative association with his abode if you experience an OCD urge whilst you're there, regardless of how severe it is.

♡ If it's paranoia you're afflicted with, he'll seize the opportunity to turn himself into the only person you can come to, the only person you don't feel silly or afraid to spill your deepest worries to.

♡ Dominic can speak two languages fluently - English and French. He can speak other European and Asian languages, too, but to a minimal degree and only enough to discuss business matters. However, if you speak another language aside from the two he already has at his disposal, he'll absolutely make sure to learn it fluently, if only to become one of the few/only people in the neighbourhood with whom you can feel truly connected with.

♡ For peak manipulation, he'll learn everything about your mother tongue after your first meeting and start speaking to you in it - fluently - the next time you meet, pretending to have been able to speak it for many years past.

♡ If you are eye contact adverse, he'll try not to take it personally. But, knowing Dominic, that is a feat in and of itself. He values being able to exert power over others, and one of his main methods of doing so is unwavering eye contact. For narinder, I feel like he maybe bonded a lot with shamura over the fact both of them feel pretty disconnected from everyone else? The way his autism manifests is probably the feeling that he's on a completely different wavelength than everyone else, and can't experience empathy the same way his siblings can. He'll like have conversations with people but it feels like someone just talking at him, and him having to mentally choose the dialogue options that make the conversation end the quickest. He probably feels like a completely separate species from everyone else on more levels than just "I am a cat and you are not". I know this doesn't line up with my narinder art so far but I have a distinct characterization of him pre-schism that's completely different from post-schism. I feel like he also resented the other siblings for having the same condition as him but presenting so differently, he felt like he got the short end of the stick.

Kallamar........is a FREAk ABOUT TEXTURES. Bro will actually throw up if he has to eat or touch something gross. I think they're very book smart, and have little file cabinets of their brain of stuff like "arthropod husbandry" and "dreamcatcher making techniques" but are totally clueless to how other people operate. They don't really know *why* people do the things they do; in my prequel AU thing, they gain most of their social knowledge through people watching rather than like...being normal and just knowing how to behave. Out of all the siblings, they've probably been told the classic phrase "but you don't look autistic!" the most LMAO

Also shamura 100000% has misophonia and that's the reason I didn't have them sitting at the table with the other siblings in the voidpunk comic I did of them. They love their family to death but they have to make the conscious decision to not shake baby leshy every time he loudly chokes down his dinner, so they just sit out meals and eat on their own time. I know autism kinda encompasses ALL of these traits and isn't something that can be categorized into "this one hates noises, this one needs to follow a schedule..." but I also don't want to just point at one bishop and go "YOU. YOU WILL BE MY VESSEL" because I'd never get to write all that I have in mind if only one character had it. There's definitely overlaps in symptoms between them but I just wrote down what I felt would be the most notable to that specific character. Vocalization

Vocalization is a interesting thing. Is it communication, or voice stim, or making voice just because?

I make a lot of noise. And I know that's a form of stimming for me. But also it provides a sense of euphoria in the ways that I'm free to express myself via making creature noise. I'm not sure how my nonhuman type that doesn't do speech would sound like. I make a lot of chirp, coos, screech, rwers. Partner call them birb noise, especially my chirps. We are pretty much in agreement that I'm a bird sort of dragon.

But I want to indulge in fox sound too, I suppose. The kitsune paratype has me perking up when there's fox video. Fox screaming at each other or that laughing fox. Parnter say my fox is like the Finnegan Fox, or just my general demeaner. I get like a excited puppy, or fox kit, I suppose.

Dragon noise is a funky one. I know the sound that Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon makes this low, purry cooing sound, and I find that one in specific to be something I should be able to do. Almost like a cat's purr. I vehemanly denies any sort of feline within my draconity though. Probably just a case of disliking the "meta" where dragons and cats are put in equivalent a lot. Beyond that, I don't think I make much sort of roar sound. Maybe growl or snarl.

The human voice box has its limitation to immitate the nonhuman sound. I do got my cooing purr down pat though. If you'd get to be in vc with me, I tend to speak in noises more than I do words. It's just easier. Probably a combination of ndness and nonhumanness.

The way I do it is

mouth in the shape as if I'm about to blow bubble

tongue close to the roof, but enough so air can pass through

push the air out. Not just breathing, but do it as if you are doing a vocal practice, and push the air out

adjust the tongue to roof distance as needed until you find the sweet spot that makes the air in your mouth vibrate

then add sound

I sort of learned that when I was a high school freshman. Someone amongst the classmate taught it to us, but only I picke it up fast and master it quicker. Could be my choir experience, could be the creature in me. I'd like to think that it's a combination.

The chirps and screech are just your regular throat really close, mouth open, tongue press up to close the throat, and do the same pushing air motion. Is it a motion if you aren't moving?

There are some cool vocalization that I'd heard folks do. My favorite one is probably Rani (@a-dragons-journal)'s. Still no idea how dre does it, that wobble wobble in the back of the throat sound. I couldn't immitate it.

Perhaps we as a community can collect everyone's voice technique and put together a tutorial. Even better yet, a video to present at a con panel.

So it was 3.30am here and I was scrolling AO3, as one does when struck by the monster known as insomnia.

My bedroom is right next to my parents', with thin insulation between the walls, and although my dad works nights, my stepmom is a day-shifter. She also has insomnia, so I do try to be quiet on long nights.

My stepmom plays shows on low volume (a horror movie tonight, judging by the screams) in order to sleep. The insulation is thin, so I can hear it. It's not always horror movies (I hated her Big Bang Theory kick), and it doesn't usually keep me awake because once I manage to fall asleep, I stay asleep, so it's fine.

I'm autistic, and when I read funny things, I get really excited and tend to vocal-stim by repeating what I'm reading. It's not usually too loud, just a closed-mouth back-of-the-throat murmur, and sometimes I giggle a little bit. Still, though, I usually leave my headphones off so I can semi-control the noise level, because I get self-conscious.

Also, my stepmom and I both consider sleep precious, so I don't like interrupting her sleep unless it's really important.

I was reading a really funny slow-burn crossover fic where the two MCs have a Miraculous Ladybug-esque love square and are currently agonizing over their seemingly-unrequited crushes.

I had my headphones on and was playing white noise, in order to drown out the sweet, dulcet, televised tones of axe murder in the next room.

I got so loud, my stepmother came to see who the hell I was talking to.

I'm not in trouble. She was awake, thankfully (unthankfully?). But I think I'll play my puzzle game for now. And maybe get a glass of water, my throat is hoarse.

LOL well you sent this a while ago (sorry for the delay) but last night was my first night of three weeks without A/C -- they're doing construction on the roof where our evaps are, and had to switch them off for a few weeks -- and it wasn't awful but it certainly wasn't spectacular :P Mind you, the cats love it; I usually keep the condo around 73F in summer and now it's a toasty, mostly consistent 77F, plus it's dry because in order to keep it from getting any warmer I'm running the HVAC fan 24/7. They're very pleased by their new desert biome.

That sounds like at once both a super fun stim and also something that might be inconvenient for you at times, but I love the idea of you just reciting fanfic loud enough that your mother watching a HORROR FILM got up to see what the deal was :D

Talking of evening routines, there are a number of games/apps that I mess around with that aren't US-based or have weird evening-engagement metrics to hit, so a number of them "reset" after 7pm -- my merge-three game gives me new bonuses, Duolingo has an evening changeover where you can get extra achievements, one of my Wordle forks (Waffle) resets, etc. And I usually go to bed around 8pm. So I've taken to setting an alarm and calling 7pm the "Power Hour". But it's particularly amusing because I'll announce "POWER HOURRRRR" in an arcade-fighter/pro-wrestler voice, then immediately sit on the sofa with two cats and spend an hour playing phone games. Power Hour indeed.

• on the trans/nonbinary spectrum. more specifically a demigirl and doesn’t care what pronouns you use on him. owns a binder for specific days that she wants her chest to look flat.

• very lesbian. her heart is for women and non-men 🏳️‍🌈

• i view her as a stud or a stem. it depends on how i’m feeling atm.

• she’s not just a nerd in the science sense she’s a huge fandom geek and has a stan twitter account to talk about her interests.

• also has fan edits of her favorite characters and interests saved on her phone. probably makes her own edits too.

• is almost always seen wearing noise cancelling headphones or earbuds because she gets overstimulated at times. when she visits riri in chicago for the first time, the constant loud city noise is something he’s not used to. he had forgot to pack the headphones he made for himself so riri makes him a custom made pair to help him relax. they end up using riri’s more than their own. (riri indulgently put small cat ears on the top of them and shuri almost cried at the sight).

• catgirl energy. riri may make her look tall but that’s still a 5’5 girl twink that stopped growing at age 13. she’s small and likes to sit on counters, lab tables, the floor and any other weird place that’s not meant to be sat on. she curls up in a ball when she sleeps alone, and if she’s in the bed with someone else her limbs are all over their body. has cute sounding sneezes that m’baku makes fun of her for. one of the lab workers once found her asleep in a random corner of the room. naturally very light-footed and basically has human toe beans, making it very easy to sneak up on people without them hearing.

• has quite a few fidget toys to help her focus on work in the lab and ease her anxiety. a rubik’s cube, fidget spinners, stress ball, pop its, etc.

• she stims. so much. especially after she successfully completes a task or experiment and she’ll do a dance or do the lil hand flapping thing. her vocal stims are always random song lyrics or tiktok meme audios lol.

• has a sweet tooth. when okoye was a dora she’d occasionally bring candy or other sweets for her to snack on. riri goes to the store and buys him all the popular american snacks for him to try. nakia always has a mini stash prepared for when they visit her and toussaint in haiti.

• favorite color is purple. it just suits her.

• a GAMER™. she plays all genres but her favs are probably minecraft, puzzle, or rhythm games. did i mention minecraft? she loves it. riri loves rpgs and pvp games the most and has her play smash bros ultimate pretty often. they’re super competitive with each other and both sore losers lmao. shuri got her to play minecraft once and riri kept getting blown up by creepers.

• ↑ she becomes super close with mj, ned, and vivian through riri. they’re always on discord vc together playing games and doing many other things and it’s the most chaotic shit you’ve ever seen.

• if the word ticklish was personified. simply elbowing her in the stomach on accident would get a giggle outta her. every ticklish spot she has is extremely sensitive and you could have her curled up cackling in tears with ease.

• funny as hell for no reason. life of the party fr. she takes her jokester persona very seriously but sometimes she’s hilarious without even trying. the first time she ever smoked weed was with riri in her dorm and riri never laughed so hard in her life that day. shuri was literally all over the place. she’s definitely a lightweight too, just as goofy, giggly, and clingy in her drunken state.

• definitely likes kpop girl groups. I can’t prove it but they love loona you just have to trust me.

• also loves vocaloid and has a hatsune miku figure in her room somewhere. trust me on that.

• has a list of favorite black american artists. riri definitely put her on some r&b classics and less mainstream artists. has a massive celebrity crush on black women rappers.

• music taste is very versatile. her playlist has almost everything. she just can’t listen to one genre only, she’s too open minded and exploratory for that.

• he’s not one to fall in love easily, but when he does he falls hard. riri was the first person he ever fell for and it changed the trajectory of his life, poor thing had no idea what to do with that information.

• a romantic, lovesick loser. cannot flirt to save his life. flustering him is so fucking easy lmao. riri once called him shawty and he malfunctioned for 5 minutes. whenever he’s on the phone with riri his crush is genuinely so obvious to everyone around him. he be giggling and cheesing real hard 😭. kicking his feet squealing on the bed when he’s alone thinking about the cute nickname riri called him.

• her love language is acts of service and gift giving. she’s not always good with words or emotions so she expresses her appreciation towards her loved ones by distributing her wealth in many ways. buying riri things she might need for college, fixing stuff that breaks in nakia’s home. things like that.

• has trouble being vulnerable with those close to her. she’s lost so much, so opening up to new people is always a scary, big step. it took a while for her to let mj, ned, and viv into her heart because the closer she becomes with them, the more it’ll hurt if she loses them. they take her in with open arms regardless, because having a support system with people her age is something she needs. they take her seriously in ways that the elders don’t. they see her for who she is outside of being a royal figure to her country and allows her to be her full, authentic, geeky self. she’s able to grasp onto the youth that she almost lost when her family was taken away.

• very talkative. can infodump about an interest for hours and completely lose track of time if you let them. they cannot stay still when excited, nor can they keep eye contact, pacing around the room and darting their eyes everywhere while rambling about the history of vibrainium or something.

• maladaptive daydreaming. will lose herself in a song and start imagining scenarios in her head. t’challa once caught her in the act and refused to delete the video footage. sometimes, she pulls up the video her brother recorded just to hear his laughter in the background.

-well versed in ASL, uses it in overwhelming situations

-sunglasses double as prescription lenses (i give this hc to basically all of the other dudes, but i think p1 would need glasses more than any of them)

-probably the smartest of the other dudes. essentially a polymath. if you ask him a question about almost anything, he'd probably give you a reasonable answer

-surprisingly good at drawing. does better with drawing portraits rather than full body. has a very scratchy and rough looking art style

-(technically canon bcuz of like, the war journal) writes in a journal (essentially a diary, but he'd rather die than call it that), mainly writes about his emotions and internal struggles, but sometimes writes about the other dudes and his experiences with them

-cannot go to sleep in silence. he's gotta have music on or some sort of background noise or else his mind starts to wander

-physically can't stay in one place without moving. whether it be rocking in place, tapping his foot, or shifting his weight from one foot to the other, he's always making some sort of movement.

-actually pretty friendly to those around him. he just has a pretty short temper, getting easily agitated by things (or people) around him

-besides p1, probably the skinniest of all the dudes. mans is all bones compared to say p4 or p3

-champ is his emotional support animal. he's been through a lot, and champ is basically his only refresher from the hell he lives in

-strangely flexible...can slip through fairly small cracks and corners easily

-average r&b enjoyer. out of the blue, p1 once asked who luther vandross was, to which p3 gave an almost hour long lecture about the importance of r&b and why it's one of the best genres to date, why old r&b is miles better than new r&b, quizzing p1 on different artists, etc

-also an unironic country music enjoyer. he begs and pleads the other dudes to let him play just a little bit of johnny cash whenever he's offered the aux cord. maybe a bit of dolly parton. hell, probably some shania twain, if he's feeling bold.

-a fairly good singer. he's no freddie mercury, but to say he's horrible would be an overstatement. knows what songs are in his range, and which ones aren't. isn't really one to sing out loud in front of a lot of people, though. (one time, he sang to p1 in an attempt to calm him down during one of his moments. it worked, surprisingly :0)

p4

-one of the happiest dudes. at this point in his life, he's not nearly as violent as the others (he still has his moments, of course, but he's not one to just spontaneously go ham) and just sorta accepts things as they are

-a genre GOD. this man listens to pretty much everything. his favorite genres are funk, nu-metal (or metal in general), pop, and r&b (he and p3 bond over their fav artists)

-while champ is basically an emotional support animal to p2, to p4, champ is more of a service dog. he's getting older, which means he isn't able to do things as easily as he used to, so champ is there to fetch things for him and in general, just help him with daily tasks

-very confident with who he is. he isn't embarrassed by the things he does. he takes pride in being different.

-doesn't give himself labels when it comes to sexuality or gender. it's not that he's against it, he just prefers the idea of being unlabeled. (though, i personally hc him as being pansexual and transmasc. you go grandpa.)

-DAD BOD. a fair bita muscle, though. he's pretty strong compared to the other dudes.

-has an array of random talents. one day he'll just start juggling randomly and be like "oh, this? yeah, i picked it up a few years ago. nothing to write home about, to be honest."

Headcanons: ROTTMNT Turtles Chirping (and Other Turtle Sounds)🎤🐢✨✨ pt. 1

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: If you're actually taking care of a real turtle, please be mindful of the noises they make! Chirps can come from stress, water temp, respiratory infection, etc. Yes, they can come from non-concerning reasons, but just be sure. IRL turtles don't have vocal chords! And also, several of these traits are taken from very different turtle species than our boys here!

Now that that's said, on to the headcanons!

The turtles can all make turtle sounds! Being half-human mutants (with actual vocal chords, teeth, human saliva, etc.) and isolated from other turtles besides each-other, their range/capabilities of and reasons for using these sounds differ— sometimes greatly—from their IRL turtle species counterparts.

The turtles accidentally created their own sort of pseudo-language that they use to communicate with each other. Chirps, trills, hums, clicks, etc. When words won't come out or they don't feel right to use, when traditional ASL— even their modified TSL (turtle sign language)— wouldn't suffice, it's something they easily fall into. Almost as easy as thinking itself.

Besides unconscious/automatic responses + occasional stimming, they hadn't used their turtle sounds as much as they did as kids. They still use it a couple times a day, typically over the dinner table, during movies, or whenever there was a turtle pile. But after Shredder, and especially after the Kraang's attempted invasion, it's something they've began to do more again.

When the turtles still couldn't form sentences, Splinter had went ham on trying to understand what each means. After guides on pet turtle care didn't do much for him, he was attentive and assumed based off their more humanlike behaviors that accompanied these sounds.

Nowadays, Splinter can't really decipher most of the new noises his sons make. He can still understand some smaller phrases: "Happy," "Sorry," "I want my family," "Stay," "Love you," "Scared," "Yes," "No," and "Hungry!" to name a few.

Raph didn't make many turtle noises when he was a baby, mostly making more humanlike ones. Though he did mew a lot when he was sick or if he had nightmares in his slumber. In addition to that, there's a specific low-frequency hum that only the other turtles could actually hear; typically made during sleepy and/or someone stressful moments. It's both an "I'm right here" and "Come here please" message.

Donnie grunted, though it came off more like a huff as a little one. His chirps sounded more like "cht. cht. cht." When he's thinking hard or feeling a little overwhelmed, he'll also emit a low-frequency hum, one only he could hear— unless he's spending time underwater with Leo, then he could hear it as well. He also hissed a lot. Especially on the days where he's clingy. There's 3 types of Donnie hisses: mildly bothered, "you're pushing it," and "I will actually bite you." How you figure out which is which? For Splinter, trial and error.

Baby Leo really worried Splinter because he kept chirping all the time. He thought that Leo had a respiratory issue and/or was under heavy stress from the sewers' conditions. It really didn't help that Leo got sick the easiest. And when distressed, he'd cry out sounding almost like an upset cat— not really helping with the respiratory infection theory. Turns out, Leo just chirped as a general form of communication, especially when he was feeling excited or happy.

Like Raph, Mikey didn't make a lot of turtle-like noises as a baby— but when he grew into a toddler— he did it a lot. He wore his emotions on his sleeve, and almost every sentence with punctuated with an companying sound. Usually clicks or something similar to a "yep!"/"yp!" sound with his beak.

Leo and Donnie were the most turtle-talkative out of them as babies n' tots. Heck, sometimes, the Disaster Twins™ would sometime just mimic each other's mews and chirps out of boredom (to which Mikey would follow suit, and eventually Raph too).

Splinter, Leo, and Mikey are the only ones who've ever heard Raphael hiss so loud and deep that it turned into a growl.

Raphael is the only one who's ever heard Leo hiss pre-Kraang.

Early on into knowing them, April asked about it. The day after they explained it to her, Donnie and Mikey began working on a "guide" comic together for some of the "basics." It's 40 pages long when they give it to April. As the years passed, she catches on pretty quickly to the various sound cues, and she can have short conversations without them needing to use words.

Casey Junior can understand them pretty well due to being raised around them— when he was small, he would try to mimic those noises (to varying results).

He may or may not have almost cried when he was in the Hamato-family-sleepy-pile and could feel the deep, comforting, low frequency sound reverberating from Raph as he and Leo rested against him— something he hadn't felt since he was just old enough to form memories. And he may have actually cried when Leo sleepily chirped back some sort of unintelligible, but content, response. They were peaceful.

My stance on the whole school furry crisis and what I know about it

Facts:

No, kids are not asking schools to put litter boxes in classrooms/bathrooms. If there are cases of litter boxes being added to schools, it's for service animals.

No, furries are not sexually attracted to animals. The correct term for those who are is zoophile.

No, most furries do not really believe they are animals. They just find comfort and fun in playing dress up as one. I'm not sure what the correct term for someone who does believe they are an animal is. (Therian?)

Now where I draw the line:

Understandable things for furries to do during school hours:

Wear small accessories with animal patterns/shapes/themes, such as a cat ear headband, gloves with paw pads (not fursuit gloves, but small, hardly noticeable gloves that can be worn while writing.)

Vocal stim (I see this lumped in with the furry community as some people who have vocal stims tend to use animal noises as stims.) That said, I do urge people to try repressing loud and disruptive stims and try to develop quieter ways to stim.

Talk with friends about their interest in animals/fursuiting. People can talk about what they want amongst themselves and it is not your right to barge in on conversations unless they are discussing harmful topics.

Things I don't think are acceptable:

Loudly and repeatedly making animalistic sounds or gestures, such as meowing, hissing, barking, purring, etc. as well as walking on all fours, refusing to do things as they aren't something an animal would do, and refusing to use bathrooms in a humanly manner.

Wearing full fursuits/fursuit parts. They take up a lot of space, are usually brightly colored, which can be distracting to other students/staff, and if not maintained correctly, can emit mass amounts of bodily odor.

Being a zoophile. This is in no way even tangentially related to those who participate in their community in a healthy and non-harmful way, but I see it associated with it a lot. Individuals who prey on animals in a sexual manner are to be reported to the police and have interventional services called to help both the animal and the individual.

Talking about being a furry excessively to staff members. Teachers can have interest in a student's life, and often ask questions like "what are your hobbies?" If safe to do so, you can offhandedly mention fursuiting/fursuit creation, but please do not bring it up willingly in conversation as many teachers are not in agreement with the community's existence and it could lead to bullying or discipline. I strongly recommend replacing any language relating to being a furry with being a cosplayer or non-professional actor, as both are more accepted and less dangerous to mention.

That all being said, I am in no way a hater of any community online, including furries, therians, the LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent users, disabled users, etc. and this is purely meant to be a guide on what can get you hurt by people who aren't accepting, as well as what is blatantly wrong and right. Do remember that a lot of these takes are personal opinions guided by research on school officials' experiences with the subject. Stay safe out there, have fun, be creative, and remember that I love you/p

Dog shifts, dog shifts! For me, for a long time I didn't used to think of my shifting as "dog shifts." (Well, I didn't think of it as "shifting" either but you get the point.) Instead I like to act however I want, whether that be a bit more calmly and like a person or with a lot more stimming and strange behavior, so I always saw my shifting as an extension of that—I feel like growling, purring, meowing, or whining right now so I'm gonna, you know? But I'm just realizing that whenever I do that, I kinda get stuck a little in that animalistic mindset: I see myself as smaller than human-sized, so standing up feels wrong; I get urges to cuddle at the feet of people I like or headbutt them; I like sniffing things and crawling on all fours and communicating solely without words; etc etc. I always thought it came from my oversized imagination or from me having fun doing that (since I already make animal noises in my day-to-day life and just communicate some things by yelping at people). But I realizing now that those might've been shifts? Most of the time self-induced since I have fun making animal noises and then get stuck in a loop, but shifts all the same. And in that case, then I've been having animal shifts all my life O-O

But why am I talking about that? Because yesterday I made a pillow fort in a friend's room and something about it (maybe because it was really short so I had to lay on the floor in it, maybe because I had my own space away from anyone else's eyes) triggered that same mindset. I felt small again, more like an animal, and I could feel my tail more strongly than ever. When I poked my head out of the fort to watch my friend game, I bothered him by yowling at him and meowing a little and chuffing(?). And I purred a bit when he rubbed my hair. I find it so interesting that through all that, I still felt like a dog instead of a cat, just a very vocal one; trying to think of myself as a cat during that just fuzzed up my brain in a way that made me feel uncomfortable (it's hard to explain). But I enjoyed getting to basically have a dog shift in my friend's room, even if I didn't enjoy having to take down the pillow fort afterward. And since it was my first official shift that I knew about while it was happening (and because I still feel a lil doggy and that's the only thing I can think about), I kinda wanted to share it!

He was meant to be named Outside by his parent because Ha Ha Almost Egg Pun. And then he was almost named Scout but he refused that one too because it's too basic. So he settled on Outdoor. No pun, not basic. Perfect.

The above probably makes it pretty clear, but he's a very headstrong egg! While he isn't exactly an anarchist and is by no means a brat, Outdoor knows what he wants and what he likes and you better have a worthy tradeoff to get him to do something he doesn't want to. He only cooperates via compromises, no "or elses."

LOVES to play pretend and roleplay. He's almost guaranteed to get a whole LARP game going with the entire camp. Or a good ol game of tag. He thrives on chasing people around. Hide and seek's fun too but with eggs? Too much can go wrong. (Side eyes a certain bear)

Outdoor has some. Um. *clears throat nonchalantly* Fa͝mil͘y ̧M͜e̸di̢c͝al His͢to̧r̀y̴ to be aware of, but he would actually really prefer if the average camper wasn't aware. His parent has informed the counselors and other relevant camp staff to ensure both Outdoor and other people at the camp are safe, happy, and healthy! This child is so full of ADHD. Like SO full. And it shows, he's very much the hyperactive type.
