<I am currently re-reading Naruto and I just love Sasuke's inner thoughts about Naruto. It is always profound and deep. I immediately got struck with inspiration, and I thought it is best to deliver it through a little comic. Planning it was the tough one, it ain't easy at all (kudos to all comic artists out there), and I ain't no writer so I had to discuss with my brother on certain things.

It end up kinda long (?) But I hope it turned out at least decent! And also, at the end of the manga when Sasuke cries, that could've been the perfect time to kiss him (but well they can't even move lol). AND ALSO, I just want to draw them cuddling. So, this is just indulging myself..

(also...hopefully people will notice the line "it does get to me" is a ref from something 👀)

It is infinitely more funny if both Sasuke and Sakura realized they don't function as well without Naruto and meanwhile Naruto function more efficiently with others.

As in, Naruto without proper support and understanding still succeeded- almost flourished. Naruto with proper support and understanding?

The minute someone figures out that all Naruto needs is a basic grasp of reading its over for Konoha. He has been enlightened and now he is free. Because Naruto, despite being a rather good example of work ethic and actively working to achieve skills, is also a genius. He manages to learn skills or make leaps in jugement canonically that others don't, and honestly the only things holding him back are the sabotage of his education and how stupid shinobi can be.

So the minute in a fanfic Naruto gets even a drop of support and he blossoms, and he starts making leaps and leaving behind his teammates? It is hilarious to witness a duo previously hyperfixated on their own two things, suddenly switching it up when they see that people are suddenly interested in Naruto. That he is suddenly appealing to others, that people think they have a right to his time.

Suddenly Naruto isn't there when training ends, or leaves after missions to "help a friend", he doesn't offer to get ramen with them or even to find more ways to mess with their sensei. And even when they hang out, he's distant- no longer dumb, no longer reliant, sometimes he does things he says he learned from other teachers or even by observing. No longer loud, or distracting Sakura from the way Sasuke isn't perfect, or rivaling Sasuke and giving him chances to grow stronger. He doesn't get upset when Sasuke still beats him at taijutsu, or how Sakura is still better at chakra control, and doesn't brag when he is good at something.

"I guess I just realized we each have our own strengths," Naruto says when they both corner him about it. "And I want to make sure I can keep you both safe because you're my team- you're all I have. Like family. So yeah, I want to learn everything I can do."

And Kakashi learns two things after Sasuke and Sakura have their realizations and new resolutions.

First, that neither Sakura nor Sasuke were in anyway sane and whatever had made them snap was only positive in that it hadn't turned them against Konoha and thus, he did not have to handle them.

And second; He suddenly doesn't have to worry about weird love triangles but does have to worry about suitors and Sasuke and Sakura's reactions to them.

Naruto, resident of the red light district since he was 4, is well aware of this practice. Doesn’t stop him from flipping out when someone dumps a baby into a trash can in front of him. As far as he’s concerned it’s bs. But if the belief has any substance he thinks being the jail of a rage demon might cancel it out.

Aka, the story of how Naruto becomes a single mom who works two jobs at like…12 yrs old and Sasuke doesn’t leave the village because Naruto WOULD find him if he skipped the round of baby sitting duty a lost bet got him during training.

I can’t wait to see if you have any analysis brewing with what happened in the Minato oneshot and perhaps some sns parallel. Idk I’m dumb but when I read mito’s talk with Kushina about love I was very curious to what your thoughts would be!!!

well I think it's easy to see what tropes kishimoto likes in romantic relationships.

the idea that it's okay to break promises/go back on your word when it comes to the one you love...

getting stronger to protect your most precious person, specifically creating jutsu for them and having them as your driving force... assisting each other's strengths and fighting side by side on the battlefield... minato wanted to create a jutsu to correspond with kushina's massive chakra as a jinchuuriki. like how naruto wanted to use his wind to assist sasuke's fire, which is what they ended up doing...

not wanting to lose someone because you love them too much. the idea of living without them is too much to bear so you'd rather die with them instead...

minato saying he likes strong people, especially those stronger than him... sns admire each other's strength (and here and here), and of course sasuke's "you had a strength that I didn't". naruto saying he wanted to be cool and strong like sasuke. they balance each other out...

the idea that love saved mito, love saved kushina, love saved naruto from his hatred of being jinchuuriki. the idea that love can transcend everything. naruto changed sasuke's heart just like sasuke (and iruka) changed naruto's. during vote2 sns shed their fate, they blew off their sun and moon arms, their love overcame what their predecessors couldn't as they reconciled and resolved to work together.

unlocking new powers because of your loved one, like kushina getting the sealing chains, sasuke developing his sharingan for naruto, minato finalising the rasengan and building on kushina's seal, naruto letting the kyuubi loose because of sasuke.

kushina stabbing minato through the chest and telling him to run away to which minato says no he's not gonna leave her because he's always within kushina. sasuke stabbing naruto through the chest and all naruto can think about is how he wanted to be friends with sasuke too much.

kurama referring to kushina as 'my jinchuuriki' and minato rasengan-ing him because kushina is not his. orochimaru saying 'my sasuke' and naruto going feral because sasuke is not orochimaru's. freeing their loved one's from a villain's grasp, because their loved one should not be owned by anyone.

and just more generally, protecting each other, wanting the other to be safe and happy, being relieved when the other is okay, teasing banter between them, just normal stuff which is reciprocated :)

so i'm at my mom's and i decide to round up all the naruto volumes we have in the house (currently i've found 37, 45, 50, 51, 53, 54, 56, 58, and 60) bc that's where my brain is these days and i flipped through 'em a bit and like.

ok so in volume 53 (the birth of naruto) there's a flashback to the kyuubi attack and a bunch of people dying. we see naruto's parents (mostly kushina) monologue to him pre-kicking it, we see iruka's parents giving their lives for him, and then there's kurenai's dad.

"you're a girl so make sure you live long enough to give me grandkids" bro i hope the kyuubi got you and i hope it hurt

ㅤNever mind S-ranked ANBU missions, those had nothing on trying to set a younger brother down the right path. And, yes, it could be argued that Sasuke was already old enough to make his own choices, make his own mistakes and deal with the consequences, but heck if Itachi would just sit by idly and watch disaster happen. Too much of a brother-hen cautious person for that.
