#on a totally separate note

Just finished with Saga of the Swamp Thing #50 (which goes a little bit past crisis on infinite earths to finish up the storyline it starts in and around it) and oh man do I have some thoughts about the whole set up and how it reflects the changing meta of DC at the time.

Basically the whole storyline is that a great evil is coming to the world, the darkest source of all evil, and it is being led to the gates of heaven to destroy it and god (and its 1985-86 so this is a v v bad thing) and John Constantine (for whom this is the conclusion of his inaugural arc) is gathering a team of all the magic folk (and Steve Dayton) in the world to prevent it, and when that doesn't work, to stop it.

So we have this newly born great evil, as innocent as that sort of thing can be, and it first squares up with Etrigan (I say squares up but Etrigan is a gnat to this thing) and we get this interaction:

Then its Dr Fate's turn!

Then it's the fuckin Spectre's turn, everyone's last hope against this guy (as the floating lightball angels are just throw themselves against it to die)

And while every being there is freaking the fuck out we've got Swamp Thing, wandering on in to have a chitchat (love this for him)

And then the great evil clasps hands with god and a sort of morality ecosystem is developed, ending with this page:

And really its this ending page that's so so interesting to me, this idea that the rigid dichotomy of morality of the pre-crisis comics is going to change going forward- the heroes of that simplified past were the ones that were curbstomped while more complicated thinking is what carries the day!

And the fact that they wrote it so clearly into the universe, like there had to be a watsonian reason that the comics are getting darker and grittier not just the doylist "this is the direction that editorial is taking us" is v fun to me.

Last night all four of my animals were in bed with me. It used to be more common for all four of them to come in, and every night I sleep with some of my animals., but there was a period of time where they weren't allowed to sleep with me, and they're still adjusting back to normal. The further we get from the Age of Horror the more often it is that it's all four of them again, crammed in with me. Those are my favorites.

For the year my ex lived with me she switched her schedule so she was up all night. She would shut the bedroom door whenever she was done trying to keep me awake, and before she'd do that she'd take all of the animals out. She said it was because they would paw at the door to come in and out and it annoyed her.

I explained many times that I get Really Gnarly Nightmares and I hate sleeping alone. It was also something she knew before she moved in and being there for me during those times was a point she sold herself on...

I said we could just leave the door open, (I can sleep through video game noises like you wouldn't believe.) She refused to do that.

It was just one of those awful things that I never "won" on, and it was just... lonely... Shut in my room, in the dark, alone. Like, setting aside that my partner didn't sleep with me, and that was lonely, before she was a factor I hadn't been that alone in my bed in almost a decade. So... even when she wasn't actively trying to keep me awake, my sleep wasn't restful.

I'm always grateful she's gone, and that's one of those things that I'm especially grateful for now, every time all five of us are snuggled in bed together. Like I think about how achingly lonely I was. Waking up sweating from nightmares. All the creatures in my house that I loved just on the other side of the door but unable to be with me because it would mildly inconvenience the woman who said she loved me, and it makes me really really sad.

I can't get that time back, and maybe it's silly, but I hope my animals know how much I appreciate them. I hope I can show it to them better all the time, because I don't think I realized how much they helped before she kept them from me.

Also. My dad replaced the stupid fan she installed that wouldn't stop making screaming noises. So I have a light and a fan in my room again. Which is a whole other victory.

Webtoon actually made me reduce the amount of blood in the first few episodes of Sunset Phoenix. Emilia and the crime scene were supposed to be about 2x as bloody.

In episode 4, Heliodora explained that Sloane died from 1 singular wound, which was inconsistent with the blood found, proving Emilia was framed. The current blood's inconsistent now, too, but it's not the ludicrous amounts it used to be, so it doesn't read as intentional. But it was!

There’s a quiet murmur of sound in the room, movement and conversation. Gu Yiran waits, lets it wash over him until he can make sense of it. Two people speaking in low voices, the occasional lilt into a question before the sound dips back down into [murmuring]. Ding Guozhu, and Zhang Xiaoguang. The quiet metal sound of a thermos opening, and Ding Guozhu’s voice cuts out for a moment.  Zheng Bei’s voice isn’t there.  Neither is Yaoyao’s, Gu Yiran reminds himself.   It’s only that — The last thing Gu Yiran remembers, concretely, with any certainty, is Zheng Bei. The look on Zheng Bei’s face, bursting in through the door, the way his expression changed when he saw Gu Yiran, something almost frantic in his eyes. The very last thing Gu Yiran remembers is the shape of Gu Yiran’s name in Zheng Bei’s mouth — not Gu-laoshi, for once, but Gu Yiran. To Gu Yiran’s right, the door to the hospital room unlatches.  Ding Guozhu and Zhang Xiaoguang’s conversation quiets as the door swings open. First, Yaoyao’s voice, “I bet you’re all starving! Lao Jiu—” and then footsteps coming toward Gu Yiran’s hospital bed, too light and quick to be Zheng Bei’s. There’s a hurried shushing from the corner. The door closes too fast to admit a second person.  Gu Yiran’s eyes are already open. He’s already disappointed.

from the third draft! hopefully the penultimate draft - at least the one scene i have drafted feels like it's only about a draft worth of revision from being done, so i'm optimistic. i'm trying a new thing where i am simultaneously constructing the "outline" / very chaotic list of events by scene for the third draft while also starting to write it. i think i'm liking it so far.

"don't waste your money getting a diagnosis for the car if nothing is wrong" hey, just because it ran fine on a small drive doesn't mean there isn't problems, and while you claim to know exactly what wrong with it you never disclose that information to the person who drives it every day. Weird, huh? Believe it or not, I want to be able to fix problems, not just ignore them until the thing is completely unusable.

these are my LN ocs!! They’re apart of this bigger au sorta story that im working on (that will be revealed!!…soonish) . They’re a group of kids with a goal to build a safe haven for other kids who live in/ got stuck in the nowhere, but they also have their own separate aspirations too. ive enjoyed building their characters so far lmao and im absolutely on the verge to infodump all their lore
