anyway Indiana got a new tourism slogan recently-ish (There’s More to discover IN Indiana); so I went looking at state tourism slogans and my favorites past and present ranked:
10. Connecticut - “Still Revolutionary”
9. Delaware - “It’s good to be first”
8. Maine - “Discover your Maine thing”
7. Kansas - “As big as you think” (what does this mean Kansas)
6. Florida - “The rules are different here”
5. Texas - “it’s like a whole other country”
4. Oklahoma - “Oklahoma is OK” (I like this one bc it sounds like they’re saying it’s just alright, like yknow it’s adequate)
3. - Vermont - “Vermont, naturally.” (Why so snooty?)
2. Washington - “Say Wa?” (I wheezed so hard at this one)
Rhode Island - “fun-sized”
honorable mention: Maryland - “you’re welcome”

The Kansas legislature passed a bill Wednesday that would classify organized retail crime (ORC) a felony offense, joining nine other states that have passed similar laws in the last year.
ORC refers to orchestrated groups of shoplifters who commit smash-and-grab robberies of stores or target cargo carriers.
The state’s upper chamber passed the Substitute House Bill 2144, which would split the felony charges into two tiers. A theft of merchandise valued at more than $3,000 would be classified a felony and those convicted would face between 31 and 136 months behind bars. If the amount stolen exceeds $15,000, the sentence range is between 38 and 172 months.
'BURGLARY TOURISM' PLAGUES SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AS UNVETTED FOREIGNERS RAID LUXE HOUSES
The bill still has to be signed by Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat, before it goes into effect.
In support of the bill, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach wrote that ORC isn’t "mere shoplifting."
"These crimes typically involve stealing for personal use. It is large-scale theft of retail merchandise that represents a concerted effort to victimize a business, often with the intention of reselling the items for financial gain and often using those financial proceeds to fund additional criminal activity," he said.
A 2023 report from the National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail association, found that organized retail crime was a primary driver of the massive amount of "shrink" retailers saw in 2022, with non-employee stealing making up 36%.
The term "shrink" typically means theft and other forms of inventory losses, and retailers nationwide experienced $112 billion in losses in 2022.
Texas, Virginia, Alabama, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Oregon enacted retail theft laws last year, while California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana and North Carolina passed ORC laws in 2022.
"While theft has an undeniable impact on retailer margins and profitability, retailers are highly concerned about the heightened levels of violence and threat of violence associated with theft and crime," the NRF wrote on its website.
State Senate Republicans who voted for the bill argued that ORC needs its own category since shoplifters who steal for their own use versus those who are part of a broader organized scheme are charged the same way.
"Currently we don’t have the proper tools to prosecute that type of crime, so that’s what this bill does," state Sen. Kellie Warren, a Republican, said of the bill, The Topeka Journal reported.
Some states hit hard by retail theft have gone so far as to create their own law enforcement task forces to address it. The NRF found that Los Angeles was one of the hardest-hit cities in California for ORC, leading the LA County Sheriff Department to create the Organized Retail Theft Crime Task Force.
Meanwhile, opponents of tough-on-crime laws such as these argue the harsher penalties are too extreme for the crimes and could prevent a person from being rehabilitated. Maine’s legislature passed a bill in the House this week that would prohibit charging people who already have two prior convictions of theft if the third theft is worth less than $500. The state’s current law permits a felony charge for the third conviction if the crimes all occur within a decade.

Genuinely curious - why NYC and not somewhere in Oklahoma, or even Mexico? (I know someone who just had a baby there bc it was cheaper than doing it in the US and her experience was really good. I know it’s a different procedure but I just wanted to share why it came to mind.)
Genuine Answer: I wasn't specifically looking for surgeons in NYC, but I saw this dude's work by chance, and just really really liked the quality. I also liked that it was a place specializing in breasts (reductions, reconstructions, top surgery) and that it's their Whole Thing, it made me feel like I'd get good quality of care there. It also had really good reviews, talking about the guy's friendliness and the staff being helpful and understanding. My eldest sister is also going to be moving a couple hours' drive from NYC this summer, so by the time I hypothetically set up the surgery- fall or winter- I could stay with her to make travel easier. It wasn't really my intention to find a surgeon far away from me. I'm looking at reductions in Oklahoma, too, but that's harder. Texas is a little easier. Breast reductions are, after all, performed by plastic surgeons. Oklahoma isn't one of the big Plastic Surgery Hubs of the united states, you can find higher quality reduction results in places where plastic surgery is more common, like LA or NYC. As far as medical tourism... That's just more layers of complication and kinda makes me wanna cry LMAO. Researching surgery in my own state is hard enough as it is. I know it might be cheaper in mexico or wherever, but I just don't want to, unless I have no options left.

Here & Now currently airing an interview about the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 and the 109 year old survivors' last attempt to demand reparations for the families who survived, as not only were businesses and homes destroyed, but Tulsa and Oklahoma have been enriched from tourism due to the massacre. They're currently appealing to the Oklahoma supreme court to have their dismissal overturned.

abt that oklahoma furry bill post i want to add that i looked into it last week bc my friend sent me it and i was like “no way thats real” and not only is it real but the guy who introduced it is just a huge weirdo who rlly wants cockfighting to be legalized
he also proposed a bigfoot “hunting season” for tourism that would involve like, the safe capture of bigfoot or something which would just be funny and cool of him if he werent a transphobic anti-reproductive rights former cop dickhead with a strange dedication to trying to make animal fighting laws more lenient

Justice Denied: Judge Dismisses Tulsa Race Massacre Lawsuit
The stinging defeat for survivors of one of the most violent racial domestic terrorist attacks against the wealthiest Black community in U.S. history echoes across Black America.
A years-long legal effort to secure restitution for the three last known living survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre has ended after Judge Caroline Wall dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice.
According to court filings posted on Friday, Tulsa County District Judge Caroline Wall granted City of Tulsa attorneys’ motion to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning the case can’t be refiled.
“Upon hearing the arguments of counsel and considering the briefs filed by counsel for plaintiffs and counsel for defendants the court respectfully finds and order the plaintiffs’ second amended petition should and shall be dismissed with prejudice,” Judge Wall wrote.
Attorneys for the city of Tulsa had argued that the case should be dismissed because the lawsuit didn’t lay out how Judge Wall should remedy the harm. Meanwhile, attorneys for Justice for Greenwood argued that state law doesn’t require them to provide those answers before a trial has even begun.
Many were hopeful that a win in Tulsa would set a precedent for other communities harmed by white supremacy.
Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons, who leads Justice For Greenwood, previously told The Black Wall Street Times the City of Tulsa was hypocritical for using the story of the survivors for cultural tourism while denying them reparations.
“The city will not even have the decency to acknowledge” the survivors, attorney Solomon-Simmons said.
The defeat for Black Tulsans and Black Americans around the country comes as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction told a group of citizens in Norman, Oklahoma that teachers shouldn’t teach that the Tulsa Race Massacre was about race.
Meanwhile, survivor “Mother” Fletcher has written a memoir, the oldest living person to do so, about her experiences, titled, “Don’t Let Them Bury My Story.” -(source: the black wall street times)

"K-Pop has grown so popular so quickly it has become a massive source of economic growth for the country in recent years."
Say "Hello" to 'Hallyu': Korean media continues to entice American audiences with every new release.
In recent years Korean media ranging from music, movies, TV, and food have made large strides across soil. So much so, in fact, it has even been given its own name. ‘Hallyu’ is actually a Chinese term that when translated means ‘korean wave’. The Korean wave began back in the 1990’s sweeping through other Asian countries like Japan and China. The term Hallyu came about specifically with the airing of the K-Drama ‘What Is Love’ in 1997 with its ratings skyrocketing the show to second place in China’s imported content at the time. The Korean wave then swept across Japan in early 2003 with the airing of another K-Drama ‘Winter Sonata’ which brought about a massive tourism boom to Nami Island in Chuncheon. This was only the beginning as the wave made its way across foreign countries like Latin America further East before finally crashing onto America's shores in the early 2010’s.
One of Korea’s most notable cultural impacts has been that of K-Pop. Despite its name K-Pop covers more than the pop genre and has become its own entity in the country with a myriad of agencies looking for the next big thing. With hundreds of young men and women across the globe dreaming of debuting in the next idol group, American and foreign fans alike have no shortage of bands and solo artists to choose from. Although most Americans may have been exposed to the K-Pop phenomenon first by the release of Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ in 2012 many stuck around to become longtime fans of some of the most notable groups around in present day including BTS, Blackpink, Twice, NCT and older generation groups like BigBang, Shinee, and Girls Generation.
K-Pop has grown so popular so quickly it has become a massive source of economic growth for the country in recent years. In 2019 the Korean music industry drew in a US export value of over USD 756 million. With BTS drawing in USD 4.9 billion to date over their 9-year career as a group and drawing in USD 1.43 billion alone with their hit song ‘Dynamite’ that comes at no surprise.
Although K-Pop might be one of South Korea's most notable industries, in recent years both their film and television industries have begun to make waves as well with movies like ‘Parasite’ and series like ‘Squid Game’. In 2019 after the release of his hit film ‘Parasite’, director Bong Joon-ho became the only Korean director to win the Palme d’Or award at the Cannes FIlm Festival and he did so with a unanimous vote. The film went on to take the most awards at the 2020 Oscars after winning four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Writing, International Feature Film, and Directing.
Following the success of ‘Parasite’ was the country's Netflix Original Series ‘Squid Game’. Released in 2021 and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk ‘Squid Game’ is the streaming giant's biggest ever original series launch to date. The launch was so big that SK Broadband, an internet service provider in the country, sued Netflix for the massive increase in traffic from viewers after the show's release caused usage to shoot from 50 Gigabits per second to 1,200. The series went on to be the first non-english television series to be nominated and win awards at the Primetime Emmys. The series received 14 nominations of which they won six including Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Directing.
University of Central Oklahoma student and member of the university's Korean Student Association Han Ji-woo shares the sentiment that her country's media is shockingly large in America. “It’s started to boom, K-Pop and other K-things… if they don’t know BTS they definitely know Squid Game or Parasite.” Han expressed her surprise at Oklahoma and the Edmond areas authentic Korean restaurants from drinks like boba tea to traditional Korean barbecue restaurants with grills embedded into each individual table for the patrons to cook their own meat. “I used to have to go to Dallas to get some of these things, but it’s clearly growing and that’s exciting.”

I live in Oklahoma so far be it from me to put a damper on our tourism industry but there was really no reason for Don to travel from Wisconsin to Wyoming back over to Oklahoma to get mugged and give away his car to then basically go back to Wyoming. I guess he was trying to see literally everything

Yeah, this post is kind of missing the point with regards to gravesites. Are Pompeii or Gettysburg, also tourism sites, off-limits to people not of their descendants? I lived in Oklahoma, is it acceptable that I visit the Murrah building site? I knew a survivor, did I need his permission?
Simply put, humans are and likely will always be fascinated by death and especially mass death. This isn’t inherently wrong. I hope all rich people who booked this tour are very aware of the class-based nature of survival, but if they’re not actively harming anything, that isn’t the issue at hand.
so theres a lot of posts going round about the titanic wreck and the missing submarines; all of them that ive seen have made very good points about how shoddy the submersible seemed to be and how the company decided to wait eight hours before reporting it, and how this is a play stupid games, win stupid prizes for the ultra-wealthy who paid like 250grand a ticket for this thing.
but what i havent seen any posts about is how the titanic wreck is a gravesite and this tourism is disturbing the graves of over 1500 people.
sometimes its kinda hard to remember that those on the titanic were real people; it was over a century ago, the story has been romanticised in so many ways (like the movie), theres conspiracies theories galore that cloud everything with misinformation, but at the end of the day, those who died were real people.
do you want their names? heres a list of them; its a long read. and for fun, heres another site where you can see photos of the children and babies who died aboard.
their bodies are long gone and their lives long forgotten. all we have to remember them and honour them is the wreck itself. its all we have of them and it is their gravesite. its their tombstone.
caitlin doughty/ask a morticians video on the great lakes discusses the topic well, and why we should leave these shipwrecks alone because again, they are the gravesites of all the souls who died aboard those ships. we rarely have bodies to recover so we really are left just with the wreck.
and what really upsets me about titanic tourism is how the majority of those who died that night were not the ultra-wealthy rich folks you might picture when you think of ocean liners.
61% of the first class passengers survived
42% of the second class passengers survived
24% of the third class passengers survived
24% of the crew survived **
the majority of those who died that night were regular folk; not to be cliche, but they were just like us. titanics wreck is not only a gravesite for over 1500 people, its also a majority working class gravesite.
and look at us now. look at what were doing. the ultra-wealthy can pay the equivalent of peanuts to them to disturb a mass gravesite of the exact kind of people they exploit today to hold onto all their wealth.
its easy to point and laugh at these dumb idiots in their playstation controller submarine, seemingly held together with super glue and duct tape, but its also important to remember that what they were doing was simply disturbing a gravesite for fun. though the company does research, these guys werent down there to conduct research, they were there so they could brag about it to their friends. its like “climbing mount everest” while your sherpa does all the work.
if you cant tell, i have a lot of feelings about this. shipwrecks and ocean liners are one of my special interests and im currently building a (beginner’s) model of the titanic, for fucks sake. but i would never go down to see that wreck because its a fucking gravesite and we should not be disturbing their final resting place.

Nashville, Phoenix, Austin: Top Cities for Multifamily Deals in 2025
As we look towards 2025, key multifamily markets such as Nashville, Phoenix, and Austin are emerging as the frontrunners for investment. These cities top the list due to their affordability, population growth, and economic resilience. Let's delve into why these markets are prime for multifamily investment and what we can expect in the coming year.
Key Investment Trends
According to the Arbor-Chandan 2025 Multifamily Opportunity Matrix, Nashville, Phoenix, and Austin are at the forefront due to high population growth, economic diversity, and relatively affordable living costs. GlobeSt reports that multifamily investors are eyeing new opportunities as interest rates start to slip, setting the stage for renewed investment in the sector.
Top-Performing Markets
Nashville: Known for its competitive tax climate and strong population growth, Nashville attracts multifamily investors, particularly those relocating renters. With a growing economy driven by healthcare, tech, and tourism, Nashville posted the nation's lowest unemployment rate at 2.5% in 2023. The city's population grew by 1.5% last year, triple the national average, securing its top spot in Arbor’s rankings.
Phoenix: Phoenix’s labor market strength and status as a semiconductor manufacturing hub make it a highly attractive market. With unemployment at 3.1%, steady housing demand, and falling vacancy rates by 3.4% over the past year, Phoenix signals strong rental demand despite new supply limiting rent growth.
Austin: Austin has sustained over 2% population growth annually for the past 13 years, the highest among U.S. metros since 1960. The absence of state-level income tax in Texas draws corporations and talented young professionals, with Austin maintaining a high proportion of renters under 35.
Other High-Ranking Markets
Cities like Jacksonville, Dallas, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Columbus, and San Antonio also benefit from strong population growth and moderate living costs. These markets are becoming increasingly attractive to multifamily investors.
Affordability and Market Dynamics
Oklahoma City ranks as the most affordable major market with an average monthly rent of $1,370. In contrast, high-end markets like New York, San Jose, and San Francisco require significantly higher incomes to avoid rent burdens.
Climate Considerations
Among the top 50 U.S. metros, Los Angeles is the most climate-hazard-prone, followed by Riverside and Miami, due to risks like wildfires and extreme heat. Midwest cities such as Pittsburgh and Buffalo, being less exposed to these hazards, enhance their appeal to climate-conscious investors.
Looking to 2025
As we anticipate further growth, addressing infrastructure challenges and zoning issues will be critical to sustaining momentum in these markets. Investors should keep an eye on these trends and consider the implications for their portfolios.

Colorado Unveiled: From Ancient Trails to Modern Marvels
Nestled in the heart of the Mountain West, Colorado is a landlocked gem of the United States. Bordered by Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, and even meeting Arizona at the Four Corners, this state is renowned for its diverse and stunning landscape. From towering mountains and expansive high plains to deep canyons and serene deserts, Colorado’s natural beauty is nothing short of spectacular. As the eighth-largest state and the 21st most populous, Colorado is a vibrant tapestry of natural wonders and historical richness. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the state's population was approximately 5.88 million as of mid-2023, reflecting steady growth.
A Glimpse into Colorado’s Ancient Roots
The rich history of Colorado stretches back over 13,500 years, with evidence suggesting even longer habitation. The eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains was a significant migration route for early peoples across the Americas. Native American cultures, such as the Ancient Puebloans and the Ute Nation, thrived in the area long before European settlers arrived. The state's historical narrative includes fascinating chapters from the Spanish Empire's claim on the region to the turbulent times of exploration and territorial expansion by the United States.
From Spanish Claims to Statehood
In the early 1800s, Colorado's fate took shape through complex negotiations and territorial claims. The Spanish Empire once laid claim to the region as part of Nuevo México. Later, the U.S. acquired the area through the Louisiana Purchase and subsequent treaties. The Pike's Peak Gold Rush of 1858–1862 drew settlers in droves, dramatically shaping the state's development. Officially, Colorado became a U.S. state on August 1, 1876, under President Ulysses S. Grant, marking its entry into the Union as the 38th state, a century after the Declaration of Independence.
A State of Dynamic Growth
Today, Colorado is known for its thriving cities, with Denver as the bustling capital and Colorado Springs as a significant urban center. The state's economy is diverse, encompassing government, defense, mining, agriculture, and tourism. With the challenges posed by climate change, including rising temperatures and decreasing water availability, Colorado's industries are adapting to ensure sustainability.
Cultural and Linguistic Highlights
Colorado's cultural heritage is as rich as its history. The name "Colorado" itself derives from Spanish, meaning "colored red," a nod to the state’s vibrant landscape. The nickname "Centennial State" commemorates its statehood centennial. The residents, known as Coloradans, experience a unique blend of history and modernity in their daily lives.
Conclusion
Whether you're drawn to the scenic vistas, the historical depth, or the dynamic culture, Colorado offers a multifaceted experience. From ancient Native American civilizations to the modern economic landscape, this state continues to evolve while celebrating its profound heritage.

Cancun police dismiss US college kids' claims of drugged water as 'exaggerated': report

Cancun police dismiss US college kids' claims of drugged water as 'exaggerated': report
Law enforcement in Mexico are claiming that the allegations made against a resort in Cancun are false and that the college girls from Oklahoma State University were never poisoned or drugged. The head of the State Attorney General’s office (FGE), Raciel López Salazar, says an investigation has determined neither of the students had drugs in their system, Riveria Maya News reported. In a statement issued to local media, López Salazar said “there was no drug dealing here in Quintana Roo with fentanyl.” He added that the case has been exaggerated and classifies it as “simple alcohol consumption.”Zara Hull and a group of friends were in Cancun for a four-day trip that was quickly cut short after she and Kaylie Pitze had a few drinks of the allegedly tainted water.OKLAHOMA FAMILY RECALLS HOSPITAL NIGHTMARE AFTER COLLEGE STUDENTS ALLEGEDLY DRUGGED AT CANCUN RESORTDisturbing photos shared by Hull and her family show the moment Hull and Pitze say they became unconscious after drinking water given to them at a poolside bar at a resort in Cancun.Hull’s boyfriend, Jake Snider, transported both girls to a local hospital after they became ill and described that as being where the nightmare continued to unfold. Stephanie Snider, Jake’s mother, recently said in a post on social media that she feared something worse was taking place.”We believe they were planning to take her away to be trafficked or perhaps even to take her organs (which is what we were later told is a common thing that is done). They most likely would have done something to my son as well, possibly even death,” she said. Following the allegations, local authorities discovered during the investigation that the girls were not staying in Cancun as reported, but at an Isla Mujeres hotel. According to López Salazar, their investigation also showed the girls’ drug tests came back clean.Local authorities have classified this case as a likely “drunken night” and the girls experienced symptoms of alcohol intoxication, the RIveria Maya News reported. OKLAHOMA COLLEGE STUDENTS SAY THEY WERE DRUGGED AT CANCUN RESORT POOL BAR IN VACATION NIGHTMAREThe outlet reported that the allegations made by Hull and Snider’s families have also caught the attention of the State Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto, who has called it a “very rare case and a very strange situation that is being investigated.”The U.S. State Department told Fox News Digital that they were aware of the report, but could not share details about the allegations as it is a private matter with the families. “We have no higher priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens abroad. We take seriously our commitment to assist U.S. citizens abroad. We are aware of these reports involving U.S. citizens in Cancun, Mexico,” a statement read. AMERICAN COLLEGE STUDENTS ON SPRING BREAK TRIP CONFRONTED WITH ‘RIFLES IN THEIR FACES,’ GIVEN THREE OPTIONSTo date, Cueto said no formal complaint has been filed by either family about the incident. “That is all we have on the matter. We have nothing more. Unfortunately, it is a story that was used to affect the image of a destination,” Cueto explained. He added that “without a doubt any case, like the one that is presumed to have happened at the destination, should be investigated, reported and prosecuted to punish the guilty parties, but in this case it is not known what happened, since there is no formal complaint.”The Caribbean Business Coordinating Council of Quintana Roo has also become involved, Riviera Maya News reported. The council said they will remain attentive to any follow-up on this case. However, they are suggesting that local establishments monitor the customers they serve.MEXICAN AUTHORITIES ARREST 6 IN CONNECTION TO GRISLY MACHETE MURDERS IN CANCUNEduardo Martínez González, the president of the Caribbean Business Coordinating Council, says hotels, restaurants and bars have been asked to monitor their guests to prevent consumers from overindulging in alcoholic beverages which they could be held liable for.Nearly 27 hours later and after allegedly spending thousands of dollars, Hull’s family was able to negotiate with the U.S. Embassy and have Hull flown to Dallas to continue medical treatment. Hull was released from the hospital and returned home to Oklahoma with Jake on Sunday, Snider wrote. Snider wrote that the name of the resort or hospital is not being released at this time due to legal and privacy issues. Neither the Hull family nor the Snider family has responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

12 July 2024: King Abdullah II met with a group of US governors from the Democratic and Republican parties in Salt Lake City, to discuss developments in the region and the dangerous situation in Gaza, as well as means to bolster economic cooperation between Jordan and their states.
At the meeting, held on the margins of the National Governors Association 2024 Summer Meeting, His Majesty stressed the need to reach an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the international community’s role in pushing towards this.
The King called for increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza and ensuring its continued flow and safe delivery across the Strip, warning at the same time of the dangerous situation in the West Bank, which, if unaddressed, could lead to a wider regional conflict.
Discussions also covered the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, and means to expand the Kingdom’s cooperation with the various states by benefiting from the expertise of each one, especially within the sectors at the core of the Economic Modernisation Vision.
The meeting touched on the advantages and opportunities in Jordan across sectors such as agriculture and food security, water management, energy, mining, industry, technical education, tourism, entrepreneurship, healthcare, trade and logistical services, and urban planning.
His Majesty noted Jordan’s resilience and stability, as well as its ability to overcome regional challenges, pointing to global companies that have opened offices in the Kingdom. For their part, the governors stressed the deep strategic ties between Jordan and the US, expressing keenness to strengthen them further in service of the two peoples.
The governors of Utah, Spencer Cox; Colorado, Jared Polis; Oklahoma, Kevin Stitt; Delaware, John Carney; Massachusetts, Maura Healey; Wisconsin, Tony Evers; Wyoming, Mark Gordon; Hawaii, Josh Green; and Rhode Island Dan McKee attended the meeting.
