you need to get into still star crossed if you haven’t already, i feel like that would give everyone an idea of how they could possibly handle masali as sophie. the female lead is dark skinned rosaline capulet (played by lashana lynch) she’s taken in by her uncle, but as a servant, she is still considered a noblewoman though. she is mistreated by her aunt as well… but her character is soooooo well written. whew, i wish the show wasn’t cancelled. she’s a full, nuanced character. and i’m planning to rewatch bc many elements of her character reminds me of sophie. rosaline goes through her struggles and trauma, but she is not defined by them, she is strong, confident, strong willed, independent, just absolutely everything. i want to say she is one of my favorite tv characters ever, even though she only existed for seven episodes… i feel like she’s a great example of how to write a black, dark skinned female character despite even if she starts in the servant role and is mistreated by family. just like masali as sophie would be, it’s a great example of how the writing for masali could turn out.

🤣I actually did watch a couple of episodes when it was airing. I never finished the series though so I may join you in that rewatch cause it’s been a long time, but yeah it would’ve been nice had it not been canceled.

As far as Sophie’s treatment goes, as much as I call her kooky, and I’m really not trying to toot this woman’s horn too hard because she isn’t right sometimes, I know people keep saying Shonda is going to ruin her I just do not see that at all.

One Sophie is right up this woman’s alley(she loves the mistress trope). Two, I trust a Black woman to be able to navigate the intricacies of making Sophie Black properly. And three, Shonda does actually know how to handle romance.

(Queen Charlotte was a masterpiece. Scandal was a train ride, but Olitz was always top tier).

I’m sure Benophie is in safe hands with her.

And people better read the book before they start complaining cause Sophie does go through a lot. Shonda loves mess so I doubt she’ll be skipping over the really gritty parts, however, her and Benedict’s story is beautiful and I’m sure the show will capture that with Masali’s Sophie.

and guys my age stop by to tell me I remind them of their aunt, of their grandmother. This is a compliment and I take it as such. They confess to having tried crochet once, and I smile. They get back in line for the bathroom.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party and a queer woman sits on the floor next to me, arranges her skirt, and smiles up at me. (I try not to blush.) She asks me all the questions on her mind about my craft and I answer them, hands still moving. We swap yarn sources. She doesn't stay, but she knows where to find me.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party and everyone knows where to find me when they need a minute, when socializing is too much and the music is too loud and they need to catch their breath. They pretend to be checking in on me, which is sweet, but I can see the relief in their eyes the moment they stop performing for a house full of people. They sit down and tell me things and all the while they never take their eyes off my hands.

The party has wound down and I'm still knitting and the hosts, two guys in their twenties, thank me for "helping to curate the vibe." I had no idea that's what I was doing. I leave the party having forgotten to drink anything and without that woman's number but with many rows added to my top-down raglan sweater. I call it a night, and a good one.

i don’t mind suspending my disbelief for leverage’s person-sized ventilation shafts bc that’s pretty standard for the genre, but that doesn’t mean i won’t laugh a bit at some of the egregiously large vents. particularly in the crowning acheivement job (lev: red s2 finale) because - well just look at this lol! harry and parker, two adults, can kneel side by side in those vents. parker can sit upright.

that museum was made for vent crawling purposes. that’s just an extra room in the museum they forgot to decorate. the leverageverse has a thief union that successfully lobbied for a better working environment. these vents double as a playground for museum-goers’ children. i was crying with laughter thinking about this and harry’s vent crisis was NOT helping me remember that there was a serious heist thing going on lol, i love this show.
