C.C and Marylin Headcannons

Okay, so the other day I saw someone type about their headcannons for Billy. I wanna put my head cannons for him/his parents too cause I’ve been thinking about this for a while.

So as of now, I’ve been playing a bunch of Tomb Raider games. If you’ve played or at least heard of the franchise, you’d know that Lara’s an archeologist. And guess what? C.C. and Marylin are. (Btw am I spelling her name right 😭) So, in my mind. They both grew up in England and then immigrated to the US and met in Fawcett and blah blah blah. Now to the good stuff, you know how Lara exudes utter badassery? You do? Great! So all the heinous, wild, plot armor filled things she did in the newest TR trilogy (Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider) Marylin did all of that. I’m cooking guys I swear, just trust me. Then as for C.C., in my little mind, he’s half Norse and half British. So, you know that one game where Lara wields Mjölnir? (I think it was Tomb Raider Underworld?) He did that. Guys, I swear I’m cooking.

So now, cause Billy in Marvel form looks like their Dad, and Mary in Marvel form looks like Marylin, you gotta wonder what their old archeology buddies are thinking. They’re either not surprised, or they’re like are you flipping kidding me? I can imagine one of their old buddies going up to Billy and being like:

Buddy: “C.C.! You old bastard! How have you been? How’s the wife and kid? Also, quick question, you disappeared for a couple years and didn’t bother reaching out to anyone. You good?”

Billy: *Looks around before flying off cause he has no idea who this person is (he’s too young to remember them)*

I can also imagine the JL with this, specifically Batman. He runs facial recognition on Billy and finds C.C., Bruce is like okay, cool, finally, a clue about that man’s identity, only for him to find pictures, photos, and newspapers from the 40’s and 50’s (I believe in time bubble Fawcett. The Batson’s died in 58 and Billy and Mary were 8 at the time. By the time the time bubble appeared, they would’ve been 10 or 12.) So, Bruce digs a little deeper and finds that C.C. and Marylin have killed a lot of people during their time as archeologists (and they definitely have since I based them off of Lara. Guys, Lara has killed a lot of people.) He also finds out that C.C. and Marylin are dead. So now he’s left confuzzled as to who the heck Billy and Mary are, cause they look exactly like them. Or at least Marvel does and Mary looks like a teenage Marylin, so for all Bruce knows she’s Mary Batson and Marylin is actually dead. But then that raises another question for Bruce, where is Billy? Is he Captain Marvel Jr.? They look similar, but not completely. The whole thing has left Bruce with more questions than answers. It’s also left him looking at The Captain in a newer light. He didn’t think the man had the emotional capacity to have a serious relationship. (He thought he was too childish. Not that my Marvel is, he acts more like a 20 something year old guy instead of a kid) Not only that but now he at least has confirmation that Cap is human… maybe. But I also want to look at this with other heroes! Like Wildcat (the goat) he grew up during the Great Depression and due to his slow aging he was allowed to live all the way up to now. He might’ve seen the Batsons in the paper. He might’ve also read about how their plane went down. I can imagine him being like “Hmm… You’re familiar.”

There’s also Question who I know would be driven up a wall trying to figure out who Billy is, and if not Billy, then he’s trying to figure out where Marvel’s from, cause the Living Lightning is thousands of years old. Yet, he keeps getting led back to an archeologist whose plane fell down in- *gasp* Egypt! Near Kahndaq! *Double gasp* He spirals.

Then there’s also Black Adam, who does his own research on the champion. He finds out the same thing Question did about the plane. The next day he flies over to Fawcett:

Black Adam: “You sniveling worm! What were you doing near Kahndaq?!”

Billy: “Dude, what are you talking about?!”

Black Adam: “You know what I’m talking about, Batson!”

Billy: *Gives him the most horrified look Adam had ever seen on Marvel’s face.*

Oh, and let’s not forget about Ebenezer. Imagine seeing your dead brother, or at least someone that looks like your dead brother, fly around saving people. After everything he did to Billy, I’m sure he was scared shitless(pardon my French). But what I think is worse, is that he’d constantly be waiting for Marvel to do something, only for him to do nothing and just unknowingly leave Ebenezer in suspense for every waking moment. Bonus points if Ebenezer knew about the Lara Croft behavior.

Summary: You and Lara are best friends in the middle of searching for the box of Ix Chel. When she gets injured and you two stop for the night to take care of her wounds, things come out that you never thought would.

Tags/Warnings: Lara and reader are best friends, based on the jaguar fight scene in the 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' game, confessions, kissing, talk of Lara fighting the jaguar and skinning it, but nothing graphic or violent

A/N: This has been *checks calendar* over a year in the making ��‍♀️I am so sorry to the person that requested this that it took me this long, me and writing are a weird one, but I finally managed to knock this out 🤩 hope it is to your liking, and to all the Lara Croft lovers out there, enjoy! 🫶🏻

"Shit, Lara!" You strain to shout, fear buzzing through your body as you feel your heartbeat racing inside your chest.

Your sight of her is somewhat obscured by branches and other flora, but you can see enough to watch her as she struggles against the jaguars grip, its nails and teeth clawing against Lara's skin, and the sound of her in pain does nothing to make you feel more calm.

Fuck, fuck, fuck!

Hands on your head, you wrack your brain as for how to help, but your brain seems to blank, the only thing it's focusing on is seeing Lara in this dangerous situation. Your heart feels like it's about to explode, and your breathing has now become quickened and shallow. You hit yourself lightly on the head, eyes squeezed tightly shut as you force your brain to think.

If she dies right now, that's on you.

The though seems to kick your brain back to life as before you know it, you've grabbed the flare gun from your left pant leg strap and thrown it under the piece of stone towards a still struggling Lara.

"Lara! Flare gun!" You shout, hoping and praying that she gets it and can shoot the jaguar in time.

Everything seems to slow down as you watch Lara move to grab the gun, just narrowly missing another attack. Eyes becoming blurry as your fear increases, you can't properly make out anything else that seems to happen.

Crack.

Blinking rapidly, your eyes finally focus, noticing little sparks. Then a quick blur passing you makes you realise that you did it. She did it. Lara is back up with her bow drawn, ready to release it.

Hope bubbles up in your stomach, releasing a breath you didn't realise you were holding. Your fingers grip the long and heavy piece of stone, trying to lift it up enough so you can get underneath and help her but to no avail.

"Shit." You whisper to yourself as you pant, most of your energy having been exhausted.

You helplessly watch as Lara skillfuly takes out the jaguar, one well placed shot at a time.

"Lara!" You cry out once you see the animal drop dead, worried about her condition. Her head turns immediately to where you are, and she makes her way over towards you.

Without a word, you both lift up the stone, and you crawl underneath to the other side as quickly as you can. As soon as she drops it, you're quick to envelope her in a hug, tears streaming down your face.

"I'm so glad you're okay!" A hiss makes you immediately release your hold, resting your hands on her upper arms instead.

"I'm so sorry Lara. I wish I could've helped you more, I-"

"Hey, hey, it's okay, you helped me more than you know-"

"But it's not okay! I mean you could've-. You could've died Lara!"

She grabs your hands from her arms and holds them in front of you both. Your crying subsides a little, and you subconsciously welcome the warmth her hands bring to yours.

"But I'm not. I'm right here in front of you. And I'm not going anywhere. Understood?" She ressures you, her tone serious but with a sweet tinge.

You sniffle, a wobbly smile rising onto your lips, and one appears on Lara's too when she notices yours. Yours eyes flicker over her form, and that's when you notice just how battered and exhausted she looks.

"Are you okay?" You ask so quietly it's almost a whisper.

She releases her hands from yours and shrugs.

"I'm fine, just a little shaken up."

She turns and walks over to the jaguar to begin skinning it, and your eyes turn into saucers as you notice the huge gash on her back.

"Holy shit, Lara... your back." You exhale out. She stands up and turns to you after she's done. You grab her free hand.

"Come on, let's get you cleaned up." Is all you can say, a million thoughts wracking through your brain.

It's nighttime, the both of you having found a place to start a fire and seek shelter for the night so you both can rest up and eat. Much to Lara's protest, you're in the middle of helping her clean up her wounds on her back as she's sewing something you can't exactly make yet out of the jaguar skin she got before.

"Sorry." You whisper out as you hear her hiss again from the pain of you dabbing a part of her back with an antiseptic and cloth.

"I had a dream about my mother recently."

You perk your head up, even though Lara can't see you.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. It was so vivid." You hear the happiness in her voice. You feel a smile perk up on your lips as you continue to take care of her wounds. It's quiet for a moment.

"I miss her."

You pause what you're doing and look at the back of her head. A pained grin appears on your mouth for a split second, then you continue to finish bandaging up her injury.

"I know you do."

Another moment goes by.

"If you had the box, then power to have any type of world you wished for. Would you do it." Lara asks you.

You ponder for a moment, a few ideas floating around your brain. But when your eyes fall back to her dark hair in front of you, you know your answer.

"No. I don't think I would."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. As much as there are plenty of things I would change in this world, everything I love is already in it." You say gently as you finish the last bandage, smoothing out Lara's back.

She feels that you've finished and turns around to face you, a small smile on her face.

"Like your stupid rock collection, or sushi, or your gaming console, huh?" She quips, an all-knowing smirk appearing on her lips.

You scoff and playfully roll your eyes, them landing back on her lips as you both start laughing.

"Yes, of course there are those, but there are also more important things than that."

"Like what?" She asks, and both of your laughing dies down.

Looking in her eyes, you notice how they're illuminated by the fire. You would walk through the fire in her eyes to truly see into her being and stay there.

Instinctively, you bring your right hand up and cup the side of her face. Her eyes widen. You gently rub your thumb on her cheek back and forth.

An owl hoots in the distance, cutting you out of whatever trance you were in. Blinking a few times, the realisation of what you've done hits you, and you go to pull your hand away.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so-"

You feel something stop you. Looking down, you see Lara's hand around your wrist. Your eyes flicker over to her face, and you notice her becoming a little flustered.

"No... it's okay." Lara whispers out as she slowly brings your palm back to the side of her face, leaning into it a little.

You swallow nervously, senses hightened by her touch. Has she always been this close to you this entire time? You were unsure, but couldn't think any further on it as you both stare into each others' eyes.

It feels so nice, you feel yourself getting warmer, an almost burning sensation in your chest. That's when the thought pops into your head.

You really want to kiss her.

You know you shouldn't. She's been your best friend for how many years? You're one of the only close people she has left. If you do anything stupid now and ruin what you two have, it'd be more devastating. But the urge doesn't leave, it crawling through your veins like an itch you can't scratch.

And then you see it.

Her eyes. Flicker down. To your lips.

You freeze at the realisation. What this could possibly mean.

You really want to kiss her.

Your eyes search hers, looking for something, though you're not sure what. Her eyes lock onto yours.

You really want to kiss her.

You notice her face move slowly towards yours as she moves her hand from your wrist all the way up your arm, around your shoulder, down your back until it sits on your waist.

You really want to kiss her.

Her face stops an inch before yours, so close you can feel her breath on your face. She looks into your eyes again one more time, as if she's waiting for you to pull back in disgust and adamantly say no.

You do nothing of the sort.

You kiss her.

The feeling of her lips is nothing like you've felt before. They're a little chapped, but it doesn't matter because you're kissing her.

You kiss her for what feels like minutes, as if you've been starved of her. Moving closer to each other, your other hand moves to the back of her neck, threading the tops of your fingers through her hair, whilst her other hand rests on your thigh.

When you both stop, you rest your foreheads against each other's, looking into each other's eyes as you both sheepishly smile.

A silence passes.

"You."

Confusion contorts on Lara's face.

"What?"

"I wouldn't change this world because you're in it."

Lara smiles lovingly at you as she rubs her thumb against your thigh.

"I wouldn't either."

Hils Watches Tibetan Sea Flower - Ep 1

Yeah, sorry to The Spirealm but I've been very upfront about my intention to drop everything as soon as Tibetan Sea Flower came out.

I wasn't expecting it to drop overnight while I was asleep with zero warning but here we are. The DMBJ fandom is the embodiment of chaos and that extends to the way they release things too.

Also apologies to Choi San. I was going to gif you today but, well, see the above.

Apparently the official English title for this is Adventures Behind the Bronze Door but we've all been calling it Tibetan Sea Flower forever and that's also the title of the novella so I'm using that for my liveblogs. I'll use both titles in the tags.

Right, I've rambled enough. I'm going in.

I don't know who this is because the drama doesn't even had a MDL page yet but I like him. He's a good baby Wu Xie. Look at his little face when Pangzi says they need to go and see if Xiaoge is still alive or not

the tomb raider post kinda got me thinking!! what if, as a sort of prologue to vat7k, varian and raps went on an exploration of corona's depths together, yknow just for old times sake!! 🤭 (i kinda imagine this to be a multi-episode ordeal mhm yep 🙂‍↕️)

and thats where they would end up discovering the light trial and/or the deactivated portal to the enternal library?? :0 (if it is the light trial, i like the idea of varian and raps potentially competing it together) they would likely ask xavier if he has any knowledge of this (spolier alert: he does lol)

its this lil adventure with raps that would kickstart varian's journey across the seven kingdoms :)

ohhh!! this is actually a really cool idea!! :0 like how the curiosity started from corona and ends in corona, i fw that a lot!! gotta love a full-circle moment in storytelling <3 like OKAY OKAY YOU GOT MY GEARS TURNING SO!!! HERE WE GO, HERES MY THOUGHTS!

altho, as much as i love the notion of freckled siblings figurine out the light trial together (it's a cute thought for sure), i think varian already solving one of the trials at the very beginning before his journey even starts (or even finding out that his mom was a scientist) kinda kills the momentum of building and hyping up the mystery surrounding what they just found in the depths of corona was (the portal) imo?

(Like I imagine Demanitus must have designed some of the trials in a way that you cant proceed to the next one without the previous totem(s) in hand, like the totems itself becomes an inclusive puzzle piece to solve the other trials and that according to ulla's research the first trial is the fire trial, not the light trial—i think this would elevate how crucial it is to follow the trials step by step to even get to the library)

So instead, I'd personally go for a scene akin to Raps and Varian perhaps needing to clear the underground tunnels of corona for business related reason. Like they initially went down there to re-purpose the tunnels for smth useful again (like this could be the perfect fill-in-the-gaps on how they extended the hot running water system that was located under old corona all the way to the capital to put more context to new dream's voice over in the finale of the show mentioning how corona altogether became the first to have hot running water in the 7 kingdoms) and they just decided to have fun and treat it like an adventure while on the job as queen and royal engineer cuz they are sillies like that.

And amidst of just having fun, thats how they accidentally stumble across an area that, to their surprise, was not familiar to both of them. And Varian can say "Huh...I've retraced our steps around this tunnels before (when he came back down there to fetch the automaton and replicate it during his villain arc behind the scenes, cuz I love subtle callbacks thats naturally brought up in a scene) but I've never come across this area. I didn't even know there was another passage down here."

And it could have totally shared heavy similarities to the structure of the passage beneath the vault from s1

Except it looked far more aged with time than the one from the show and thats how the two figured this is different from the one below the vault.

And has a similar center piece that resembles the one from the show

except it's much wider and bigger with an unassuming decrepit arch (that looked withered out or unfinished/destroyed to freckled sibling's opinion) at the middle surrounded by pillars (thats meant for the gang to place the totems that will power the portal back on after they retrieve all seven of it) Something like this:

And there are letters (similar alphabet from the demanitus scroll) carved in the arch. Knowing this dead ancient language by memory, Varian tries to read what it says and its a cryptic passage that def reads like smth you'd find in a mythology to freckled siblings. Hence them going to Xavier askin about it later on if it rings any bells to him, to which indeed he recognize the passage and tells them it's talking about the legend of the eternal library—but Xavier claims that the legend itself is very vague about how to even get there, the only clear instruction was retrieving the totems.

Plus I like to think Varian needs the blueprint for this portal just like he did in s3 to figure what specific parts he needs to assemble it back into functioning condition because this is Demanitus we're talking about, that man is paranoid af (pretty valid considering the kind of shit he's tampered with during his lifetime) and leave everything he knows in form of riddles and cryptic messages.

And the only other copy in existence of said blueprint—is in Ulla's journal and she had it laid out in the very last spread pages of her book. And that's the moment it finally clicks to Varian what the answer to "where's the entrance and how to find it" question is, "Hold on... I've seen this arch. Wait...oh, OH—OF COURSE! OH IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW—guys guys!! I know where the portal to the library is!!"

and boom, thats how it comes full circle in my head. thank you for coming to my ted talk (bows)

Headcanon: The Moon Boys and Video Games:

Steven generally prefers cozy games or life sim games. Stardew, Animal Crossing, The Sims (he goes out of his way to have ALL of them), Slime Rancher,etc, but when Layla's around he also likes to play games like Overcooked! That are still that lighthearted type game, but with the added competition. Every once in a while he ventures out of this genre if one really catches his eye. (Assassin's Creed Origins im talking about Assassin's Creed Origins it's too perfect I mean come on). He has no real console preference. Him and Layla have a Co-Op on Stardew that's currently on Day 10 of Winter of Year 5. They have not yet unlocked Ginger island because Steven has been very focused on the Musuem. And they finished the community center in two days.

Marc probably seems like he only plays dark bruding violent type games - which,okay, a part of me wants to say he'd enjoy the fallout games - he also is really into science fiction games. No Man's Sky and Astroneer are personal favorites. He's also partial to Tomb Raider and the like. He prefers PC or Play Station. He has yet to get The Last Of Us Volume Two because he had it spoiled. He also enjoys the Horizon games. When it comes to games with Layla, he normally just joins her in the multiplayer of whatever he's currently playing that has one.

With Jake, I feel like he's really into racing games. Like. Really into racing games. I know, it's cliche, 'New York Cabbie is into racing games' but it just..makes sense.. I dunno. Maybe it's the theory that Jake was fronting at some of the points in Austria (including the cupcake truck turning around)..which Im not quite sure I subscribe to yet, but I do agree with a lot of the points, or just the fact that I like the idea of Jake being an absolute chaotic speed demon. He also bought himself one of the GTA's.. entirely just for the driving aspect..he also sometimes plays Orgins after Steven bought it. He favors handhelds and consoles (for obvious reasons.)

I also think all three of them sometimes play Stevens 'Cozy' games. The Sims and Stardew Especially.

It's 4:00 AM and I literally woke up randomly thinking about this and couldn't fall back asleep because I needed to get it out you have to deal with it now. (can you tell I've been playing video games a lot in the aftermath of all the stress of the holidays?)

Ruby: Whoo… that was tough.

Yang: I can’t believe that Grimm trapped us in those video games like that.

Weiss: Indeed, my game was difficult.

Ruby: How so?

Weiss: I was a witch. I controlled time, had many weapons, and summoned creatures. But I had to do some embarrassing poses. 

Ruby: Oh you were Bayonetta. That was cool. Mid though. What about you Yang?

Yang: I was in this arcade game where I fought a bunch of people in the streets.

Ruby: Oh. I mean you fit the description of someone vandalizing property.

Yang: You know it. What about you Blake?

Blake:  I was a ninja. But instead of fighting just other ninjas, I was fighting monsters. And I also wield multiple weapons too.

Ren: You too. I was a samurai and I was fighting demons. And I can summon creatures to help me as well. And I had multiple weapons.

Blake: One of mine was a scythe.

Ruby; Really? Man. That sucks. 

Yang: What was your game, Ruby?

Ruby: I was a devil hunter. I also had a lot of weapons. But I mainly used three and a few metal arms.

Yang: Metal arms? Holy crap.

Ruby: My bosses were insane, especially the final boss. 

Ren: What about you Nora?

Nora: I fought my father.

Ren: What?

Nora: I fought my father who was trying to take my son. I did what I could but he was too strong. I managed though and survived. However, I pushed my son away from me and he left me alone. I was happy when he came back but things only got worse. I lost my friend. And though I managed to talk some sense into my father, my grandfather killed him right in front of me.

Ren: Nora it was a game.

Nora: It was real to me!

Ruby: Okay. Oscar and Emerald, how was your gaming experience?

Emerald: I was a badass treasure hunter. 

Oscar: I was a guy who wielded a Keyblade and had to fight the darkness. I made many friends but my main ones were a duck and a dog. Mainly the dog.

Ruby: Interesting. Well, Jaune what about you? What game did you go to?

Jaune: You can’t be serious. All of you have only been to one game?

Ruby: Yeah. I was in DMC.

Yang: I was in Street Fighters.

Blake: Ninja Gaiden.

Weiss: Bayonetta.

Jaune: Which one? In fact, red, blue or purple?

Weiss: Purple.

Ren: Nioh.

Nora: God of War Ragnorock 

Emerald: Tomb Raider.

Oscar: Kingdom Hearts.

Jaune: Oh my god. For real?

Ruby: Matter of fact, you’ve been gone for a while. What game were you in?

Jaune: I was in four.

Yang: Four? Like the fourth-

Jaune: No I was in four games?

Oscar: What were they like?

Jaune: Um hell.

Ruby: O.

Jaune: I was in hell. First I was in the Resident Evil series.

Yang: Number?

Jaune: 8.

Yang: Oo did you enjoy-

Jaune: I didn’t see the appeal. Especially, if the same tall woman, is trying to kill and eat you. And they were mild compared to a fungus monster, a crazy doll, a fetus, and an insane man with magnetic powers with the temper of a nine-year-old. I don’t know how I survived half that nonsense.

Yang: Damn.

Jaune: That was light work though. Then I went to find something called the Elden Ring.

Nora: Oh. Did you score any maidens?

Jaune: I will hurt you.

Ren: I mean it couldn’t been that bad. What was your role? 

Jaune: The victim.

Weiss: Didn’t you have weapons?

Jaune: Of course, in Resident Evil I had guns. Then for Elden Ring, I had swords and magic. Too bad I was against insane bosses who were completely out of my league. And one of them was a man who fought me with his bare hands! 

Nora: Oh.

Jaune: Had my butt bent over.

Oscar: Pause.

Jaune: Then Melina. Oh god. Oh god, A dragon flame thrower.

Blake: Jaune?

Jaune: After I got done with that madness, I went further deep into hell. Where my only option was to run.

Ruby: From what?

You lean back in his bed and cross your arms over your tummy. "No… are you sure we have to go? I'd way rather stay and watch a movie here. Please?" 

"Please," he says back. "I really wanna see this one, he's, like, a tomb raider."

"You realise there were two movies before this one, right?"

"Yeah, but I didn't know you knew that. I think you'll like it too, babe. You think that Ford guy is handsome." 

"I think you're handsome, and I can see you right here." 

Steve takes his jacket off. As soon as he does you feel awful, throwing your legs over the side of the bed to stop him undressing further. "I'm kidding. I'll go. Come on, you're right, Harrison Ford is really handsome." 

"Are you sure?" he asks, jacket held in his hands loosely. "I know you haven't been feeling the best, so if you don't wanna go, it's fine. We can go later in the week." 

"I– I don't wanna–" You hate stammering around him, but admitting how you feel about this carries an awkward weight. A fettering kind of shame. "We'll have, like, nachos and popcorn and stuff, and movie food is really–" 

"I get it," he says, nodding.

Steve puts the jacket down on his dresser and grabs your hand, pulling you back enough to sit with him again on the bed. Sheets crumple under your hands. You're in for a Harrington pep talk, you can tell. You need it so much you don't try to fight it.

"Stuff like that sets me off," you mumble, though he already knows, "and I've had a really good week this week, I don't wanna ruin it." 

"The week isn't ruined if you have a slip up, you know that," Steve says gently.

It's just hard. Even though he loves you. Even though he understands. It's raw to be seen at what you feel is your worst, while you trust Steve to be kind about it, because something tells you that your worst is the worst. You know you aren't lesser for having this problem, but knowing and feeling don't align when it comes to this. 

"I don't want to go somewhere that's going to make you feel shitty, though, seriously," he says, his arm slipping behind your back. He kisses your cheek, and speaks warmly in your ear, "if you don't feel like you can do it tonight, then you don't have to." 

"This is silly. I can't keep interrupting our lives because I'm worried about how eating butter is going to make me feel." 

Steve rubs your back. "Don't do that, honey. You don't have to make it smaller than it feels."

"Steve," you say quietly. 

"I know this isn't small for you. I promise it's not small for me, either, and it isn't disrupting my life. You getting better is a thousand times more important to me than seeing a movie, so if you feel like you can't be there, we won't go." 

"Are you sure?" you ask. 

Steve hugs you. "Yeah. Yeah, of course I am. I'm proud of you. Not everyone understands it, I know, 'n' I know that makes it harder, but I'm on your side." He pulls away to make sure he's said the right thing. 

You smile at him fondly, reaching up to brush rogue strands of hair off of his forehead.

"Let's stay here and have the dinner we planned," he says, nodding hopefully. 

You nod back. "Okay… Thanks, Stevie. I promise we'll see the movie soon." 

"That's alright. I don't like that you knew that guy's first name anyway. Can't have a movie star stealing my girl, I can't compete with that." 

You snort and flick his arm. He flicks you back. 

"You sweep him completely," you tell him. 

The total and inarguable truth. You don't need a movie star when you have him. Steve hugs you again, this time pushing you down into bed to rub his face against yours. "That's what I like hearing."

JUNE: I waffled on including June in my "summer roundup" but technically my summer starts mid-June. It just so happens that right after work ended, we moved. And it took a minute for my podfic space to be set up. So, in June, I made 1 hour & 41 minutes of podfic. It was quite literally just Chapter 47 of the Sansukh multivoice project. I posted more in June but it was all recorded/edited in May.

JULY: July brought 7 hours, 31 minutes, and 53 seconds of podfic. Much of this was not posted until August when Summer Podfic Swap revealed but it was all recorded in July! In July, my most recorded for event was Summer Podfic Swap with 11 podfics. My longest podfic was The Jedi Within at 3 hours & 16 minutes. My shortest podfic was Red Bones at 6 minutes & 37 seconds.

AUGUST: In a weird coincidence, I made 7 hours, 32 minutes, and 38 seconds of podfic in August. (I've never had two months in a row be almost the exact same.) Much like Sakura, I feel like a lot of people would have it bad for Akane. It's honestly wild that she didn't have a Kazuichi or Tenko equivalent, because people would simp so hard for her. Like, she is what "Not to be a lesbian but oh my god" was made for. The parkour, the casual disposition, the gleefully clueless behavior? Get outta here. She goes through life with such an air of confidence, she completely lacks self-consciousness when she admits she doesn't understand something, she has a cute smile, come on. This girl has Undyne energy.

In fact, here's me lowballing a list of characters I think had a crush on Akane when they were attending Hope's Peak:

Chihiro. Absolutely. Akane is strong in so many ways that Chihiro would appreciate. I can just see Chihiro in the library working on some new project (maybe white hat hacking the school) and Akane parkours past a window and Chihiro just runs up to the window and stares out, admiring. Chihiro blushing when Akane walks past. Chihiro smiling shyly when Akane calls her by the misremembered name she never corrected. (Might be "Cheerio" or "Fuji Apples".) One day Chihiro and Chiaki are hanging out, and Chihiro mentions having a crush on Akane (which, to a lot of people, would be like playing a Tomb Raider game and saying, "Wait a minute, is Lara Croft kind of hot?"), and Chiaki just goes, "Of course. She's the Undyne to your Alphys." And it changes Chihiro's life.

Mahiru. She swears she usually likes people she considers "reliable", but Akane's free spirit nature just really speaks to her. (Not to give credence to Freud, but I do think the experience of her mother often being out of reach was a formative one, and Akane being someone who will be having a conversation with you one minute, fighting coach the next, and climbing the school the next, would maybe invoke a lot of those feelings for Mahiru.) And she starts to notice that Akane has some depth to her that others don't care to notice, and that drives her crazy. Someone talks crap about Akane, and Mahiru lambastes them to the moon and back. Hiyoko would hate it. Like, it would be just the hugest force of humbling for Hiyoko. I like Hiyoko, by the by; it's just deeply funny how much of her classism would get challenged over this.

Gundham. I kind of addressed this in my Soniakanedam posts, but yeah, I feel like Gundham could easily have a crush on both Akane and Sonia for very different reasons. He has two subtly different energies that he likes to embody, and Akane matches one and Sonia matches the other, and it blends so well. And not for nothing, he would be such a gentleman about it.

Mikan. Easy. Akane is just walking around slightly injured all the time, and she's there insisting Akane sits down so she can at least bandage her, and also cautioning that Akane should really wear a helmet when she does dangerous things, and generally fretting over her in a way she doesn't get a lot. And Akane defends her to other people in a way she doesn't get a lot. It's easy.

Teruteru, but that's almost a free space.

Leon, but with a vibe comparable to Teruteru, in that I'm not serious about it.

Makoto could have a small crush on her, probably in passing. I'm hearing "big-boobed supermodel" and I'm thinking he would at least notice her as an older student who is pretty and cooler than him.

Potentially Nekomaru, but I think it would take him a while to recognize his feelings for what they are. And also I'm kind of partial to them being the way they are but it's completely platonic. But romantically, it's a nice ship that I do like.

(Okay so I have thought about a throuple with Akane, Fuyuhiko, and Peko for a while now, but I'll save that for some other time. It might just be that I want to ship Akane with Peko. It's kind of a Celeste/Hina situation, in that I think Peko would not want to have a crush on Akane but would be unable to help it. Any potential for romance between Fuyuhiko and Akane I mostly see in the post-SDR2 space.)

The only reason I'm not listing Sonia is because I see it less as a crush than a casually flirty friendship with the potential to become more.

original Lara was a 40 years old who didnt give a fuck, but also she showed emotions when the story allowed it. for example in the game "the angel of darkness" Lara is faced with accusations of murder, besides the shock over the accusations, it is a friend of hers who is murdered, so she shows emotions. she has nightmares, she has delusions that make her believe she did it. story wise that game was a masterpiece, but due to being a bit (read a tone) buggy, lots of ppl never played it.

another very funny fact of those crying is that they think the movies with angelina are the canon lara, which...well I liked the movies too but canon lara? please.

the Reboot, takes lara back when she was fresh out of Uni, it explores her youth and how she came to be this hardass motherfucker we know and love

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and the Amulet of Power by Mike Resnick. it was in a dollar book bin and i got it as a joke gift for a friend. mike resnick is a remarkably prolific writer who's done a lot of tie-ins. i don't have anything particularly notable to say about his star wars books but they are a sort of minimum viable product? they feel star warsy and don't annoy me on every page.

this book was published in 2003 and treats the people of the Nile delta and their beliefs with all the delicacy you might expect from a 2003 video game tie in novel. i do think the twist is being telegraphed way too hard. perhaps i should say instead of sending a telegram mr resnick has simply set the telegraph office ablaze as a signal fire. the titular triangle-pointed woman herself ms croft is VERY insistent she's just as good as the boys. this is pretty on par for my experience of 2003 empowering womens' feminism AND my experience in a male-dominated field so i can't really ding it too hard? aside from the racism, in the notably racism-free fields of archaeology and video games and archaeology video games, this book is aging a little strangely overall. i do not know if i will finish it before i mail it out to my friend, but despite its sins it is a very fast read.

watched the four dungeon meshi episodes. it's cute! ProzD was an unexpected delight! it made me want to make something fancy for dinner but alas i still have to go food shopping!

some posts on my dash were talking about how the episode with the mollusks inside the living armor really got them hooked and i have to agree. i also saw the full potential of the show's speculative biology unspooling before me. i don't know if i currently have the brainwidth for the manga but it is going on my reading list for after i finish berserk. which is kind of like saying i'm going to watch chopped after i finish up hannibal

forgot i had an original gen switch, given to me through a complex series in a complex series of friend barters back in uhhhh late '21? early '22? i got through 3/4 of the divine beasts the first time around and then could not crack the camel. it was well past time to create a new switch profile so i could start a new game without losing the old one.

anxiously junebugging between a whole bunch of shit. finally figured out the correct charger/extension cord setup for my bedroom. replaced all the fluorescent lightbulbs and took them to be recycled. fixed the hall door enough so it latches closed and an irritated cat can't claw it open. tidied up the balcony and patio and repotted the surviving houseplants.

in textile news, started this cross stitch. this is a Bless This Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy Star Wars themed sampler, i have made two as gifts and had to throw out a mostly-completed one i made for me bc of the moths. but i now know exactly where this will go in this apartment and i already have the frame and i bought all the floss pre-being fired, so might as well? the real bitch of the situation here is backstitching the buildings. it's so start and stop. it's so much tan. i talked about this on the weekly siblingchat facetime and now my brother has requested one lmao. that's his christmas gift settled. i suppose.

i had somehow forgotten how loadbearing textile crimes are for me. i haven't done much of anything since the moth debacle, and that was almost two years ago. last night i found some suspicious holes in a camisole and i'm really really hoping it's just cat claws and not moths or carpet beetles or any other fun things that eat clothes.

The Lost Tomb 2: Ep.7

Fatty: Xiao-ge's talking in full sentences. Shit's about to get real.

Does knee capping Wu Xie with a projectile flashlight to stop him from running down a dangerous corridor while under the influence of some tomb tomfoolery count as Xiao-ge saving him? Yes, in my books, yes it does.

Okay, it's not just me right? Everytime Wu Xie and Xiao-ge make eye contact it is the most intense gazing you've ever seen in your life. And it always lasts way longer than it has any need to.

Wu Xie stopping Fatty and being like, no it's my place to follow directly after Xiao-ge.

Man this episode is giving us so much good interaction between these three!

I love the tiny little nod and blink thing Xiao-ge does. Aaahhhh. I thought I was going to have a hard time with the change in actors, especially since this guy plays Xiao-ge quite differently from the season 1 actor, but I am having such a great time with him!

Do I count the flashback of Xiao-ge saving Wu Xie in the water while going to Lord Shang of Lu's tomb in the count even though it's definitely a remake of a scene that happened in season 1? I am going to say yes. Keeping track of these saves is turning into a much more serious endeavour than I originally predicted.

And here we have Fatty make jokes about Wu Xie and Xiao-ge's age difference. Man this episode has me smiling so much.

Oh no Wu Xie's struggling so much. I kind of really like the characterization we're getting with this climbing scene. Xiao-ge is of course just absurdly competent and parkours his way up. Fatty struggles but is able to use the rope to climb up the pillar. For all that he may struggle with the physical side of things he is an experienced tomb raider and that's evident here. And then you have Wu Xie who has no idea what he's doing and can't even get his feet off the ground. *sobbing*

I'm starting to question how much Wu Xie actually knows about all this and how much he's getting by on confidence, charm, and a ridiculous about of luck.

Aw, Wu Xie is so sweet. 'I'm sorry I got mad at you when you accused my uncle of being a murderer.'

I love the way this weird mummy thing runs.

Oh my goodness that shot where Xiao-ge goes flying away from the explosive. *crying*

I vote this trio should not be let into any more tombs. With the first one they burned it and an entire forest down, and now they've blown a hole in and flooded this one.

+1 to Xiao-ge saving Wu Xie for lassoing the mummy and blowing up the ceiling so they could escape.

It this gonna be the format? They go through the whole tomb together and then as they're escaping Xiao-ge disappears in a way that makes it unclear if he survived or not. Cause if it is he's gonna break my heart, and Wu Xie's too. Gosh I'm actually getting misty eyed. Watching Wu Xie desperately trying to go back for Xiao-ge was heart wrenching.

I started out this episode having just the best time, and now I'm so sad :(

Best PC game recs?

Oooh, well. I actually play most of my games on console because I prefer the controls, so if we're talking PC specific:

Baldur's Gate 3 is really great to play on PC because of its turn-based combat system, and is overall a fantastic game with brilliant writing, memorable characters and a really high class character creator. (They have also remastered the first two Baldur's Gate games, but I haven't played those editions and it's been years since I played the original BG games so I can't speak to how well they play on PC now).

I'm a big fan of the Nancy Drew mystery games on PC. They're click and point puzzle games that are a lot of fun to play. If you're any kind of puzzle fan you'll love them.

The Monkey Island games. These came out years ago but I've been replaying the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island and they really hold up and are hilarious, so I think worth checking out.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is my favourite cosy game at the moment, I play it on both PC and Switch and it's just very relaxing and sweet and has a lot of fun decorating and clothing options

If we're talking games in general regardless of platform:

Dragon Age. All of them. Cannot rec these games enough, I'm obsessed with them. I think all of them are worth playing from a story point of view, but Origins definitely shows its age these days and is very clunky at times to play. I'm currently replaying on PC specifically so I can mod, which is great, but I definitely find the combat harder to manage on PC then I did playing on PS3. I'm not sure if it's available on PS4/5 so if you want to play, you may just need to play on PC.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. I've only played these on PS5 so I can't comment on what the PC gameplay is like, but they are absolutely among my favourite ever games with some of the best storytelling I've seen and I highly, highly recommend playing them on one platform or another.

Final Fantasy - OKAY so there are a LOT of FF games out there. Of the ones I've played my favourites are 7, 8 and 10, and obviously they've also now released the first two games in the FF7 Remake Trilogy which I am loving. You don't have to have played the OG FF7 to play the Remake, buuut I do think it adds a lot of context and they're doing things with the Remake trilogy that I think OG players are definitely receiving differently to new players. FF8 and FF10 both have remasters - FF10 in particular has some incredible storytelling.

Tomb Raider - I'm a big fan of the series generally. The Legend/Anniversary/Underworld trilogy is still my favourite overall, partly because Keeley Hawes is such a good Lara Croft, but the more recent Crystal Dynamics series is very fun. I think the first in the trilogy is more of a generic action/adventure game than a Tomb Raider game in all honesty but I still enjoyed it and the second two were huge improvements.

Uncharted - again, one of my favourite series and Nathan Drake is one of my favourite characters. I think all of them are worth replaying but A Thief's End is my fave of all of them and the one I've replayed the most.

Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales - I've not finished Spider Man 2 yet but the first two games were really well done with fantastic storylines and are my favourite moderns renditions of Peter Parker tbqh.

Any of the LEGO games, but especially LEGO Lord of the Rings. They're absolutely hilarious and so much fun.

Spyro - I loved the original Spyro back in the day and they did a Remaster for PS4 which is so much and super cute, and is also available for PC!

Finally I think you probably need a DOS emulator to play it now but if you can get one of those I highly highly recommend the 1995 Discworld PC game. It is batshit insane and you will absolutely need a walkthrough for it, but it is also genius and if you're a Discworld fan at all you will love it.

Okay so the only game ive ever really Played is ac (first one) and even that took me over six years right? Like i am Not a gamer. My friend tho? Avid gamer, 100% in elden ring and soulslikes and all those, and any time im around to see him playing something, especially when he losing, i’ll go “yk.. in Assassins Creed-“ and tell him ways that assassins creed is superior. “Yk.. in AC u could just go to eagle mode-“ “yk.. in AC you could just Climb that wall” ect ect, he hates it😌.

But! Ages back he was playing tomb raider and i came over while he was stuck at a parkour rope swing wall that he had apparently been stuck at for Three Irl Days. So Obviously i made fun of him and he demanded i do it then if i think im so much better🙄🙄🙄.

And bestie? I did. Never played the game before, hadnt held a ps4 controller in a year, but i jumped that wall like i was ezio in a race with 4 seconds on the clock because it was the Exact Same Mechanic! And then? I did it for him again years later when he was replaying.

And that is my One gaming win that i take serotonin from daily, hope your day gets better ily gbye
