Had to watch the second episode in two parts so here are my thoughts on the second half:

I know they're giant beetles but 'He directly paralyzed that bug in one blow.' as a statement to show how badass Xiao-ge is is hilarious to me.

Uses blood magic via an ancient sword. Immediately falls into a coma. Goodness I hope this is a regular thing for him. I'm a sucker for badass characters who are also incredibly fragile.

Maybe it's just that most of the Chinese media I've consumed has been Danmei thus far but I'm getting some vibes from Xiao-ge and Wu Xie... Xiao-ge's saved Wu Xie like four times already. Wu Xie seems very facinated with Xiao-ge. And now they've been assigned as roomates at this hotel. Hmm...

Special shoutout to Xiao-ge's wet hair in this episode.

"Shen Jiu, you really are a demon!"

in which yue qi saves an injured fox kit, which turns out to be an young fox demon. once he's recovered enough strength, he adopts a human form so that he can talk to yue qi properly, but ends up being caught by the slave traders as well. Since he can change form, it would be pretty easy for him to escape, but if he's discovered as a demon he'll never be able to return, and he has no home or family anyways, so he decides he would rather stay and help qi-ge, who will probably get himself killed without someone to stop him from doing stupid shit.

when shen jiu saves yue qi from death by horse carriage, and subsequently is bought by qiu jianluo, fairly quickly qjl realizes he is not human, and delightedly gifts him with a enchanted collar, which renders him unable to chnage forms, stuck in him demonic form and unable to change to full fox or full human shape. like this, he cannot leave the qiu manor at all without immediately giving himself away, even if qjl hadnt also locked him up. like this, he has no choice but to wait until yq makes his way back to the qiu manor at last, but when he's finally freed, he's initially almost feral from how he's been treated, and very nearly kills yqy...

The Lost Tomb: Ep. 5

Is this lady (I think her name is Ming?) joining our party? I kind of like her and Wu Xie is being very nice to her.

Oh no! Zombie Wu Xie?

Does Xiao-ge's blood have magical healing properties?? I would be suprised but what? Also, adding a tally to the Xiao-ge saves Wu Xie counter.

Very nice slide Xiao-ge! I like how Wu Xie is obviously concerned for Xiao-ge's safety, telling him to move here. But also trusts him when he tells them to go ahead first.

Oh my goodness! That's your most epic save yet! I totally see the dancer in Xiao-ge's actor. That was badass, yet elegant and gentle. Another tally to the 'Saving Wu Xie' count!

Awww! That look when Wu Xie thanks Xiao-ge! And when he adjust's his arm around Wu Xie. Gaah! Remember in episode 2 when I was like. 'They kind have vibes, but it's probably just my imagination and won't be a big deal.' Yeah. Also is this this first time we've seen someone touching Xiao-ge so casually, the Uncle's hand on his shoulder? Every other time someone's touched Xiao-ge there's been a reason.

There's a crossbow in her body??? What??? This is one of the weirdest tomb traps I've ever seen.

Okay this just got crazy... A lot of things just happened and I'm not sure I understood any of it.

A-ning kills her own man to save Wu Xie. Yeah, I think she's joining our party eventually.

Oh my goodness! He doesn't even wait for A-ning to agree to the deal before he gives Wu Xie the Dragon's Blood. Xiao-ge really is out here not giving a damn. (+1 Saving Wu Xie)

My favorite part of Lost Tomb 2 is Zhang Qiling in episode 1 in disguise as a loud, overly-familiar, balding, middle-aged man, just yelling his ass off all over the place.

Because it means that in the canon of this story, Zhang Qiling is capable of imitating annoying old men, and I choose to believe that he is just mentally like "This is how all humans speak and act."

But also the way "Consultant Zhang" clings to Wu Xie and Pangzi immediately like "HELLO NEW BESTIES"... and then refuses to let go of Wu Xie's hand until well after it gets awkward (probably so Wu Xie can feel that two of his fingers are too long and he'll realize it's Zhang Qiling but still).
