Some of the Amnesia trope spin off of TROD AU I drew in stream the other day, Narinder version (idk I'll come up with an actual name for it or just keep calling it the 'trod amnesia au' lmao)

Still not quite used to Clip Studio Paint, the brushes feel stiffer to use and I think it shows but alas

have been in a qijiu/qiyuan mood lately, and i was thinking about an au where shen yuan, upon transmigrating, actually loses his memories. he wakes up and has no idea who he is, where he is, who the man at his bedside is. not a clue. the only thing he has is his muscle memory, his sharp recognition senses (he's experiencing a lot of déjà-vu), and blurry fractions of memories that he can't quite make out.

thing is, the memories of both shen yuan and shen jiu aren't actually gone, they start to intermingle, to mix up, a little sister in princess pajamas beside an older brother wearing dirty rags, a bright screen that displays mountain peaks and glittering caves. he's kind and generous the way someone who has never had to worry about food or money is, but he gets vicious and defensive when someone gets too close. sometimes he says cruel things and doesn't even understand why himself.

neither identity fits anymore, both names right and wrong at the same time. it's just... shen qingqiu.

and while everyone else might adjust to this just fine, yue qingyuan does not. because that is shen jiu, but it isn't, but it has to be, but not always. he gets flashes of his childhood friend when shen qingqiu gets viciously defensive over nothing, when he scowls and scoffs and rolls his eyes when he thinks people can't see, but then he smiles, and laughs, and tilts his head in a way that is completely foreign. he likes beasts. shen jiu never liked beasts. but he loves tanghulu, like shen jiu. sweet sugary things. the first time xiao jiu cuddles up into his hug, he cries.

the way he sometimes clings to yue qingyuan when he has a bad day can't be him, but then he says "qi-ge" exactly like shen jiu would and damn near snarls at anyone who gets too close, and he's aggressively possessive the way he was when they were kids. but then he pulls away and apologizes, like shen jiu would never do.

and he never demands anything, scrubbed clean from roughness and filth and selfish want, will act perfect and smiling and pleasant, never burdensome. like he's completely forgotten where he came from, what he was. like the pampered nobleman's son who could afford to be kind. the only time his old self comes fully back up is when he feels threatened or scared or angry, like a trauma response that kicks in to protect himself. and then yue qingyuan starts to wonder if maybe it is. maybe the shen jiu he knows was only ever fear and self-preservation, and the one he is now is a shen jiu without the chains and shackles and scars.

yue qingyuan doesn't know if he's happy for him, if it's for better or for worse. he does know that he feels protective and responsible for this new version xiao jiu has become.

meanwhile shen qingqiu, even when he regains enough of his memories to realize he was once a different person, doesn't know who he is anymore. both, maybe. or neither. he feels bad for taking away yue qingyuan's friend, but in his heart he can't help but think qi-ge is his brother, and no one else's. when he manages the peak he feels like he's taking credit for another's accomplishments, but he remembers suffering for it, he remembers what it took to get there.

Amnesia AU

An AU where Danny gains amnesia after getting captured by the GIW. He gets saved by the Justice League just after they discover Superboy, trying to find out if any of them have been cloned. When they save Danny they don’t know that he is a ghost or halfa, not that Danny knows that either, and have him join the Young Justice League. He and Superboy become best friends, Danny often messing with Superman for his clonist bullshit on Superboy’s behalf. They become each other’s pillars in a world that is unfamiliar and against them.

So imagine John Constantine’s surprise to find the missing Ghost King, who’s people he has been trying to keep from declaring war against this dimension to find him, calling Superman “Captain Primary Color Palette” in the Justice League watchtower.

Have a messy Rexwalker AU

Anidala were casual, there was flirting with Rex but it never went anywhere. Anakin doesn't get barbecued and ends up as Suitless Vader, so the Vader identity is more or less public.

Vader is Captured ™️ by a miscellaneous individual, and Sheevy Boy doesn't care enough to find him.

Instead, Rex stumbles across captured Vader, who is:

A cute girl now

An amnesiac of the fantasy "I don't remember who I am, only have the faintest flashes of my old life" variety

Rex steals Anakin. And kind of... does the questionable thing:

Implies they were a couple, affianced, prior to Her Head Injury.

Rex builds a life of domestic bliss on LIES in the back end of nowhere.

Ahsoka is horrified when she finds them, even though it means Vader isn't so much an issue anymore.

He tries to say it's for the greater good (he'll tell her the truth eventually! When he's sure she won't go back to Sheev!) But uhhhhh he's Guilty Happy whenever she hugs him or gives him a cheek kiss etc.

Waking up in the same bed almost makes him cry with emotion.

(The intended implication of Anakin not noticing anything is wrong wrt gender and the surgeries is that she was never cis in the first place and just. Didn't realize. Could be fully binary trans, could be gender indifferent. Won't know until the truth comes out that she wasn't Always Like This.)

It takes a while for Eddie to realize Buck’s tense and stiff as a board in his arms and that he’s not responding to any of Eddie’s touches with the usual eagerness and earnestness as only Buck can be. “Buck, baby?” His voice comes out all croaky from the tiredness and from only just waking up. “What’s wrong?” “I’m sorry, I, uh, I don’t-” Buck stutters, crawling out of bed and getting his legs all tangled in the sheets in his haste. Eddie’s frozen in place. “I don’t, uh— Who are you?.” or: The morning of their wedding day, Buck wakes up with amnesia.

Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland (Amnesia AU)

Crystal calls them an old married couple on acid and Charles flinches. He can't help it, even if it means having to shrug off Edwin's arched eyebrow of concern.

There was a time where Charles had dreamed of something like that. Of an eternity getting to love and be loved by the North Star himself.

But Charles Rowland had realized quickly enough that his love is not meant to prosper. It is not meant to plant itself in fertile soil, to grow. Charles Rowland’s love is a weed, meant to choke out the people it settles on.

And Charles couldn’t do that to Edwin.

So Charles shakes his head, dislodging Edwin's concern with his most convincing of smiles, and keeps memories of light tucked beneath his skin where they have itched for thirty years.

indulge me on an au idea based on a popular trope where one of them gets amnesia and forgets that they’re married.

but make it carcar

think fifteen years into the future. oscar is still in f1 while carlos has retired.

it’s been seven years since they got married, ten overall if you count the first time they kissed (carlos thinks that’s an anniversary worth celebrating. oscar doesn’t care; secretly he knows every anniversary they have, including every time they made contact on track)

they both had strong opinions about where they should live after the wedding, but in the end they decided on madrid. oscar likes the sun. carlos loves home.

the accident happened a few miles from their house in madrid. a car accident. carlos was on his way to the airport, a plane scheduled to take him to abu dhabi and watch his husband fight for his third WDC trophy. he never made it to the plane.

oscar found out before qualifying. he called his in-laws, made sure he was updated. he raced for his husband who was still unconscious in hospital and won. he flew straight to madrid, was informed that carlos woke up when he landed, and they said—“brace yourself, osc.”

“for what?”

they said it’s amnesia. they said he doesn’t remember the last sixteen years.

carlos doesn’t remember oscar, his husband who learned how to cook burgers and pancakes from him. his husband who taught himself how to cook local food from the elders in the neighborhood that adore carlos and his family. his husband whose family’s trust carlos had to gain through food and a helping hand.

carlos doesn’t remember oscar, the guy he proposed to in melbourne, in the piastri family home, on the bed oscar spent most of his time learning about cars instead of fairytales.

carlos doesn’t remember oscar, the guy he fell in love with for every deadpan joke he makes, for every celebratory dance he does whenever he wins at mario kart, for every gift he gives carlos that he insists wasn’t worth much, for every time he smiles.

carlos remembers oscar, the rookie who pisses him off with every move he makes against him.

oscar learned spanish and understood all the complaints carlos was making at the sight of him in his hospital room.

“i wouldn’t be surprised if i got into a crash with him and he did this to me,” carlos hissed, pointing an accusing finger at oscar.

he stayed calm as ever but of course it fucking hurt.

they left it up to carlos’ dad to explain the situation, with the help of the doctor. carlos is taking everything well—except the part about being with oscar.

“why would i marry him?” he keeps asking but refused to hear an answer from anybody, especially oscar.

and the entire fic is just oscar taking care of a unyielding carlos who still hates him. a fic centred around their feud that wasn’t really a feud, a seemingly one-sided relationship, and how carlos rediscovers why he loved oscar in the first place.

Jake gets Bradley through little flashes in his life. A scenic picture posted on Instagram. A selfie of a funny face sent to the group chat he keeps with the rest of the daggers, the text chain as active as any of them can manage with their jobs. But that’s the extent of Jake’s relationship with Bradley: flashes and neverfuckingenough. It doesn’t hurt, though. Not necessarily. So some days Jake convinces himself it is.

Until he gets the call.

OR

Bradley gets in a training accident and ends up losing some of his memories, including breaking up with Jake, who he thinks he's still engaged to. Amnesia AU.

Oscar Piastri was young and hopeful when they met, and Carlos saw right through him. Oscar wasn’t quiet because he was timid. He was a bit awkward in that endearing sort of way, but he was confident in everything else he did and he kept that to himself as much as he could. Carlos knew what he was capable of and that grit had bothered him from the get-go. Of course he made sure Oscar knew that.  This Oscar no longer looked like the driver Carlos knew. He has a finer jawline. His scruff is unkempt and his hair is as long as Carlos’ but that had always been the case, right?  What is so strikingly different is the way Oscar looks at him. After Carlos successfully riled him up those first few months, Oscar has never looked at him unless they’re forced to the stewards to talk and it’s always with the look of contempt.  This is not that.  “Hey. Hi,” Oscar greets him with a sigh of relief. He takes Iris’ seat, his sister willingly handing Carlos over. He looks at Carlos like he’s important to him, with the certainty that it’s reciprocated.  When he reaches for Carlos’ hand, Carlos pulls away.  That expression falls immediately.
