had another very strange dream last night. i was sitting at a very wide arcade machine in an empty warehouse, like those big rabbids ones you get, with an older woman i dont know who she was. the game i was playing had pixel graphics but also live action cutscene things and in it, for some reason, i took the role of god and was guiding the souls of dead children to the afterlife while also trying to persuade them to visit heaven's restaurant?????

the only individual story i remember was this girl called liz, she had black bobbed hair and was mad on animals. at one point she was talking about her older brother's plan to do a five year long music course and i think the purpose of this next statement was suggesting that he couldnt commit for that long?? anyway i remember her holding a water pistol saying "five years is how long toddlers have a GHETTO" and in the dream i was like DAMN BURNED and now im awake im like what the fuck does that even mean

anyway yeah liz had a horrific phobia of blood its important to note that. so yeah in this cutscene she was helping out in an animal hospital thing i think? idk i just remember a magpie with an IV which i dont think they even do but whatever. yeah and then this vet was talking to her and she was feeding this animal with something that was made out of glass and somehow it broke and cut her quite badly and there was like a moment of silence and then she just screamed and there was like an explosion of blood across the room which i guess was like a metaphor for her mental state shattering or something

and then she ended up in this mental hospital and somehow got hold of a piece of glass and i think she said something along the lines of "guess ill have to face blood one last time" and then slit her wrists with it and died so um. jesus. but yeah then it was my turn and i had to sort of guide her to this portal to the afterlife which was somewhere else in the hospital while also apologising for not doing various things for her as god, giving her advice and subtly trying to suggest that she might be hungry because of the restaurant part i mentioned earlier lmao. it like recorded your voice so you had to speak out loud while also moving her around each turn which was difficult to do at once. you could get like prewritten advice kind of like a hint but they had other peoples names in them so you might accidentally say the wrong name which upset the kids cos its like you werent paying attention to them

anyway yeah eventually i got liz to this portal and she said she was gonna go to the restaurant so i guess i did well. the old woman who was supposed to be teaching me how to play the game did jack shit so im taking sole credit for that win lmao

and btw since I'm posting a lot of wholesoul content (intended as platonic but still), i do want to make it clear: my analysis of whole as a character is purely within the narrative of the story! while i am aware that behind the metaphors is whole is cj himself, that's never what i'm writing whole as in my work. basically I'm using the internal logic of the fiction (whole as viewed by the characters in the album) rather than the reason for the fiction existing (as a fictionalized version of chonny's mental state), just like i do with all the other characters. it's important to make that distinction when you're dealing with a piece of fiction so heavily based on the creator i think. I'll never use cj as a basis for how I write whole because I find that a little off putting tbh ^^;

you know the contrast between how Vergil is presented vs thinking too hard about Vergil’s story is pretty funny. Man’s reputation is this iconic badass, the pinnacle of what video game rivalries can be, the coolest guy to play as, the guy who breaks every game he’s added to,

and then you go to the story and like. man’s lost his free will and autonomy at 19 and then came back a fractured man half of which was a lovecraftian eye beast the other half of which was a chronically ill goth man. and then he reunites and hes in like his 40s now I believe but legit the last time he was actually in a game where he wasn’t being mind controlled when he was 19 which is both sad but also thinking about how this guy who’s considered one of the top badasses of gaming has never really lived life outside of being a teenager.

Anyways this is the secret comedic potential of post DMC5 for Vergil because not only has the human world probably changed a fair bit in terms of technology, if he’s sticking around Dante he’s gonna actually have to learn in depth how taxes and grocery shopping work. Amazing.
