sometimes it hits me that cesare and juan are literally the definition of 'doomed by the narratives' siblings. there's just something about their tragic brotherhood that will always be stuck in my mind.

both brothers have grown apart into two essentially different people. they resent the fact that they're not the same ones they knew when they were young and faced the same struggles. the tension between them has turned sour, and it's no longer just an innocent, typical sibling rivalry. their father pitted them against each other, causing juan to be envied by cesare, even though they should have never been placed in opposition. they both feel like the other one is the center of their father's attention and love, but no matter what they do, it's not recognized. they alternate between lashing out at each other and clinging to each other, torn between being bitter at each other and missing each other. the vicious cycle that their father trapped them in made both brothers feel insecure and not good enough for him, which ultimately led to juan's murder just when he tried to mend his doomed brotherhood with cesare through physical closeness, hoping to be brothers again like they used to be. cesare and juan's relationship is characterized by both love and conflict. they were victims of their father's manipulations, as he used them as pawns in his own chess game, tearing them apart. fate didn't allow them to be together in harmony. if only there were another life where their father didn't trap them in forced assigned roles, cesare would still have loved juan, and they would've remained brothers in arms.

the strawberry toothpaste i bought my ex as a last ditch effort to get them to brush their fucking teeth more than every few months arrived today, the day after they finally left. of course. other ironies include that i specifically chose not to steal the hat of theirs i really liked, but they ended up forgetting every single one of their hats here except that one. and i tried very hard to make sure they got everything back they might use as an excuse if it was missing but their favourite shirt was still in the laundry. they will never appreciate the hours of pain i put into packing their shit to make it go as smoothly as possible but they never appreciated anything about me anyway

The saddest thing about my “villain” AU for Lovette, to me at least, is that it could have easily been avoided. There are two key catalysts that birthed the malicious woman Lovette becomes in this timeline (of which I have many because I hate myself)

Those being-

1. Something happens to her brother Labault and he dies, regardless of circumstances behind it.

2. During her time questioning if she should even still be a Dragoon… she opts to become a Sage as opposed to a Reaper like in her canon timeline.

One has much more weight than the other and it’s the second catalyst, believe it or not. From the end of HW and onwards, up until post SHB, pre patch quests, Lovette was ready to put down the lance for good for a myriad of reasons I won’t get into as it’s not the focus of this, another post- another time. She is also canonically a dark knight but she doesn’t resort to it often… only really if push comes to shove and she’d rather not place all her eggs into a single basket. Within canon, this is something she discusses with Labault.

“Mayhap I would do more good as a healer than a clumsy dragoon…!” She only meant it as a joke. Healing magics have never been her forte. Labault even reminds her of that fact.

“I would sooner be a healer than you. Why not opt for something similar to the lance? Surely there must be something out there for you.” He did not have reaping in mind, far from. It wasnt that long after their exchange that Lovette chanced upon The Lemures. So what then, of the a timeline where Labault isn’t there? Or rather, no one is there guide her away from taking up healing magics? It didn't have to be Labault specifically to tell her as much. It could have been anyone.

But there was no one. She had companions sure but most of them left her to her devices. Give her space. She'll pull out of it! She always does! Or so they thought... if someone had guided her, if she had approached someone about the matter... her descent could have been avoided.

🧿 what steps do you take to not take things personally if a fic doesn't do well, or if your writing/posting/sharing experience isn't going how you'd like it to?

I try to focus on the good things that come out of it, the fact that I finished it and felt it good enough to post it and share it with all of you. But I always know I can count on the same handful of people who always review my works.

It does get hard some days tho, I'm not gonna lie. I've got fics that never got any reviews and thats fine! There's comments and kudos and thats great!!!!
