🇵🇸 OFMD Gotcha for Gaza Fundraiser 🇵🇸

Welcome to the OFMD Gotcha for Gaza Fundraiser!

This is a fundraising event to raise money for the people of Gaza in exchange for Our Flag Means Death fanworks. This event is not officially associated with Our Flag Means Death - it's a fan-run project and made possible by volunteer fan creators.

How it works:

Artists and writers can sign up as volunteers to fill prompts submitted by donors. Donors can submit prompts after showing proof of donation (at least $4USD for SFW and $8USD for NSFW art/fics) via screenshots.

Timeline:

Artist/Writer Sign-Ups: June 17 - July 8 Donation Period: July 9 - August 9

It's nearly April, and you know what that means...

Presenting: Not-AUpril!

A month of drabbles, quick-fire (and longer-form) prompts, and invitations to make things in forms beyond prose.

We're doing something a bit different this year, after all the excitement of the #OFMDCraftFair.

Each week has a theme, and every day its own prompt! Many of them silly, some of them meaty, hopefully something for everyone!

Weeks Line-up [see the graphics above for the daily prompts, alt text provided]

WEEK 1: Drabble Week ⚡ (Tues 1st – Sunday 6th) Every day we’ll post a grid of nine words for you to use as you wish. Do as many or as few as you like – the world’s your oyster!

WEEK 2: Random Generator Week 🎲 (Monday 7th – Friday 11th) A staple writing prompt tactic, we invite you to roll the dice with us! Each day has a generator attached which you can use. Or, you can interpret the prompt however you want! [see the spreadsheet above for links]

WEEK 3: Canon Inspo Week 🏴‍☠️ (Sun 13th – Fri 18th) Since this is NOT AUpril, we looked to OFMD’s canon for a single word to represent each episode. Each day has three episode prompts (e.g. 13th April is 1x1, 1x2, 1x3). You don’t have to stick to canon with what you create, but let canon inspire you!

WEEK 4: Sensory Week 👃 (Saturday 19th – Wednesday 23rd) Inspired by the #OFMDcraftfair, this week is a chance to explore the things we love about OFMD with our hands and other parts - through the senses! [see the spreadsheet above for links]

WEEK 5: Form Fuckery Week 🌀 (Friday 25th – Tuesday 29th) Prose is great, but sometimes it’s fun to shake things up! This week, why not play around with metre, rhyme and layout! Get silly, let it be amateurish - have fun with it!

White knuckling my resistance to conceiving and implementing a fandom event called Knock Izzy Hands Up Week.

The Podfuckery is a cute idea but some of us can't listen to/parse podfics and I don't see anywhere where there's text? Does the text just go up later (like some kind of embargo) or somewhere else without links? Or have I just not clicked on the authors who have posted the text versions of their stories yet?

Confession time 3!

This time it's not very funny, though, but I wanted to say this.

I loved Stede and Edward SO MUCH in s1. Especially Stede, my sweet baby, he was so clueless and so endearing

I actually teared up at the Talk it Through moment when the whole crew showed him that they cared about him, he was so proud 🥹♥️♥️♥️

And Ed was also funny and suprisingly sweet (ok, yes, he was also hot with those leathers, the beard and the long curls 😍).

But Taika did really give it all when showing Ed's most vulnerable side and I really felt for him 💔

And their scenes together? They were amazing (except the kisses, sorry, unpopular opinion probably, but hmm nope, their acting is so good, the way they make heart eyes at each other is great, but their first kiss and the big reunion kiss, hmm nope), they were sweet and hilarious and I was rooting so hard for them after s1, you have no idea. The fact that they both ended s2 alive and together was a big relief for me (despite my many issues with s2, at least they got their happy ending ♥️).

And here is the thing I wanted to say: I loved Stede and Edward SO MUCH in s1* and it probably doesn't show since I rarely make posts about them or even tag them except when it's a steddyhands/stizzy/edizzy post. Why? Because some people spent a lot of time around here being nasty and harassing people for the horrible crime of liking Izzy and they were usually die-hard Gentlebeard shippers so not posting about them was my way to avoid them somehow. There, I finally said it.

(And let me be clear just in case: no, I don't think every gentlebeard shipper is an arsehole, ship whatever you like and hate whatever you like. If you hate Izzy or Ed or Stede, that's your right, just don't be a dick about it and let other people like and hate whatever they want)

*In s2 I still liked them and I think I know where their characters' arch was supposed to be going, but I don't like how it was developed. I understand the episode cuts were a big part of the problem that made the storylines a bit sketchy, but still there are things that can't be blamed on those, they were writers' choices that I didn't like. And that's also the thing: this is just a PERSONAL OPINION and I'm not trying to convince anybody, if you agree, you agree, if you don't, you don't.

Hey ghostalservice, thank you for all the events that you run, both the monthly AU ones and the mini ones on Twitter. You spark so much fun and creativity in the fandom and even if I don't create anything myself, I always love seeing what everyone else comes up with. Plus I always see you cheering everyone on in Fic Club and it's so encouraging. You're amazing. (Also Wanna Fly Away lives in my soul I just need you to know that.)

As far as I know there's no official OFMD Aro Ace Week account on Tumblr (yet?), but I thought I'd share the prompts here anyway in case anyone is interested:

It will be a week long fan event in January 2024 for creating and sharing fic and art that celebrates any and all identities under the asexual and aromantic umbrellas.

Each day has two sets of prompts to pick from: one for creating new works (creation prompts) and the other for sharing pre-existing works (share your faves). The prompts can be used in any combination. All interpretations and all mediums of art are welcome.

in the lead up to october 19th, we're asking you to submit your calypso testimonies. you can write about anything from why the episode it important to you, to which character made you feel seen and represented. literally anything calypso-related is allowed!

to submit your testimony, please inbox the @calypsosbirthdayevent on tumblr. we ask that you include your preferred name, age and pronouns too.

for safeguarding reasons, the event is only open to those 18+.

Panfandom Hanukkah Bingo

WHAT: A fanworks bingo celebrating Jewish (and Jew-ish) characters across any and all fandoms. Write fanfiction and/or create graphics (moodboards, edits, vids, whatever you like) to fill prompts on this overall bingo card. During the 8 nights of Hanukkah, submit your fills to the AO3 collection and/or post them on Tumblr to be reblogged and added to the Bingo Masterpost.

WHY: Jewish characters and Jewish fans are often overlooked or erased during the Winter Holiday Season in favor of “Secret Santa” exchanges, Christmas-themed fics, and the idea that ~Hanukkah is Jewish Christmas~ (which spoiler for all fics in this bingo: it’s not). This panfandom Bingo challenge is to celebrate Hanukkah on its own terms and give Jewish characters and fans a place to breathe. :)
