Ok, forget all that fandom nonsense, I was sent the most ridiculous image I've seen in m entire life to the point I couldn't even breathe from how hard I was laughing and my brain has been reset.

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

Spotted a prompt card for @ofmdjanuaury's OFMD drabble week so I figured why not:

nothing - cape - dunk

Izzy isn't a fan of Halloween, but Ed made him come to Bonnet's party, so here Izzy is, wearing a cape over the sort of black outfit he wears every day.

"Izzy!" Roach grabs Izzy by his arm and drags him into a corner of the living room. "Your turn to bob for apples!"

"What?" Izzy splutters.

Frenchie pulls his head out of the bowl, nothing in his mouth. "This is way too hard, Roach!"

Roach pushes Izzy forward. "Now you dunk your head in there."

Izzy eyes the bowl suspiciously and sighs. This is gonna be a long night.

Nothing - Blow - Bright

Ed's muscles screamed as he swam. His sopping leathers weighed him down, but he had to keep going. Nothing mattered other than getting back to the Revenge before the English could blow her out of the water. Heart pounding, he scaled the ladder and hoisted himself over the ship's railing. The bright smile that greeted him was almost blinding in its intensity. But there was no time to bask; if they didn't hoist the white flag, they'd all be goners. He didn't know what would happen next, but he knew he could face anything with his co-captain by his side.

nothing – cape – dunk

Ed’s been holding up well, all things considered. ‘All things’ being having a mad crush on his best friend. But nothing could’ve prepared him for Stede’s Halloween costume. A superhero, really? As if it wasn’t bad enough that Stede parades around in skinny jeans on the daily, Ed now has to deal with seeing him in a leotard and tights, not to mention the cape he keeps swishing around. Ed is so done for. He needs to dunk his head in cold water, or he’ll combust. Or. He could put all his skull-shaped candy in one basket and tell him.

A quadrabble using four lines for @ofmdjanuaury ‘s Drabble Week!

The engine’s hum is a bright rumble under Ed’s feet. He’s in the between for at least a few more hours, nothing outside the ship but endless mathematically impossible space, the currents that seep between atoms carrying him forward. He likes it here, sometimes: likes the peace, likes the way nobody can find him. When he’s got the boys with him they play cards or talk shit or whatever, but this run he’s solo, so he’s got music playing and he’s dancing along to it—

When suddenly, there’s a the thump of a blow against the airlock.

There shouldn’t be anything out there. He’s floating in the between, for fuck’s sake! The point is that there’s nothing! That’s why it works, why the whole folding of space can happen!

The sound comes again, a quick series, this time, almost like—

Almost like a knock.

Something clenches in Ed’s core, something small and frightened, but at the same time—he’s fascinated.

Another knock, and Ed—

Ed wraps his blanket around himself like a cape and steps toward the airlock.

Maybe there’s another ship, trapped out here? But that should be impossible, each fold of the beyond distinct! 

Whatever it is... knocks again.

Ed stops, pulls his blanket-cape closer, squints at the airlock. It’s closed—he’s between, so if it was open he’d be sucked into the nothing outside—but the panel is flickering.

It shouldn’t flicker. It should glow with a steady brightness, should show the green circle of sealed, not—whatever shape is trembling on the screen. It shouldn’t even be able to show things like this, but garbled lines—three-dimensional wireframe shapes that bend and fold, making his brain hurt—

They twist into a new shape, and Ed feels like he’s been dunked in ice, because it’s blossomed into an open eye, watching him.

“What the fuck!” Ed leaps back. 

The panel flashes bright, the hum of the ship’s core suddenly intensifying under his feet, and Ed yelps as a spark leaps from the wall to the exposed skin of his knuckles where he’s clutching the blanket. 

This is it, he thinks as he stumbles back. My bill’s come due. Bound to happen eventually.

If he’s gonna die out here in the between... at least it’ll be by doing something interesting for a change.

He steps closer, reaches out carefully, but the static buzz has faded.

The eye, though—still watching.

He presses the button.
