obsessed with the fact that if you choose the last purple option in lucanis' romance chat before going off to tearstone island ("they MOVED the MOON!!!" still in the running for the best delivery in the whole game btw it's so ineffably hilarious to me), it's rook who flinches away just a little bit (if still warmly <3) and tries to change the topic and lucanis who's steady even though he's clearly still so afraid. 'don't tempt fate'/'*the softest fucking voice you've ever heard in your entire life* I don't intend to'. pain and suffering

lucanis looking at rook and helplessly, with a wonder that verges on despair, saying 'what would I do without you?' is soooo. especially at that point in the relationship and with what's about to happen. and for whatever reason rook can't quite stay with the fact that they do mean that much to someone, that they are so reverently and so groundingly 'I want to know what your favourite food is so I can make it for you any time you want it' everyday loved, it's too much and they have to deflect from it or the fear of losing it. can say some very interesting things about them, too.

(there is also a Pattern in that in my estimation lucanis frequently responds better to inviting humour than to earnest shows of concern -- it seems to help him be more engaged/online to be offered that more neutral space to meet you in and uh 'build' the conversation around something funny together than to be confronted with compassion head-on because that clearly mostly deer-in-the-headlights him, as we also see with some of the early flirt options haha. contrast this especially with bellara, who repeatedly gets genuinely upset if you try to make light of some pressing and painful situation she's dealing with (girl I'm so sorry I'm so jestercore and I canot change this but I'll try :'( for you). I think the times lucanis reacts negatively to the purple options are much more about you siding with other (frequently more charismatic lol) people against him or throwing him under the bus interpersonally -- like seeming to go along with illario's charm offensives, or telling teia lucanis didn't want to come help out with caterina's funeral and he'd just sit alone and brood about it if you didn't force him (???!!! hello??? unprovoked and deeply unkind out of left field???? this option is so fucking MEAN and for what fhdaskjfa you're telling me there's no way for rook to be a bit of a dick in this game?)

when it's one on one conversation he consistently seems to find it quite comforting, though... which makes a lot of sense because in many ways it's how he interacts with illario, just shorn of the resentments and hidden daggers and things they Do Not Talk About but really should beneath the levity that makes it sharp. it's gone ugly between them, but I think the affectionate instinct beneath is real and goes back a long way before all of that festered -- it's a form of play he does with people he loves. and uh. not really caterina huh. notably.)

#rain world #rainworld #rain world lizard #rw lizard #my art #fanart #I had a set of lizard busts I've been meaning to polish and decided to used them for color practice hehe #My overall goal was to have distinctive vaules while keeping a more limited palette #The challenge came from the fact that on the surface the colors can feel and look quite similar to each other #But play with them just right and you can a 'light' patch amongst your middles tones and vice visa #I think I did a pretty good job but of course there's dozens of things to look more into hehe #I also took a lot of inspiration from momopatchi. They're color work is just SO GOOD and I'm glad I captured a tiny bit of that spark here!#Sigh is feels to feeling have more splashes of color in my gallery once more

#polls #video games #RPGs #game polls #video game polls #games #for a final boss i think 3-5 is pretty good #it of course depends on a lot of factors even if we're assuming an rpg with typical action combat #it depends on the overall gameplay and feel of the game and how boss fights were structured #with kh3 for example i expected the final boss to be hard #because it's a high combat action fantast rpg #and xehanort is proceeded by a lovely boss rush #and the main battle itself is a gorgeous setpiece #but i expected it not to be TOO hard cause the story bosses are meant to be accessible and it does have difficulty scaling #when you get into soulsborne or bullet hell or other precision fights tho it's gonna be a lot higher #so I'd say largely it depends #but 3-5 is my comfort range

One of the strongest points of Mass Effect, if not the strongest, is just how well written the characters are. From Shepard, to the squad, to the side characters like Anderson and Bakara, to barely-there NPCs like Ereba and Charr the lovers, Etarn Tiro the enthusiastic turian merchant, Kargesh the krogan who wanted a fish, Lia'Vael, the quarian who gets falsely accused of theft, and the Salarian who wants to buy a memento to his asari lover to remember him by once he's dead.

I feel like so many of them are memorable, and they all serve a purpose to the overall world building. The krogan show that they are not the violent thugs the galaxy has made them out to be. The salarian shows the struggle born out of building relationships with people of a species with a life expectancy so beyond your own. Lia'Vael illustrates what Tali says about the quarians being treated like second class citizens. Those small little side quests have a meaning and a purpose, it doesnt feel like they are Just There, and they add more to the lore of them game to those who care about that stuff.

#Romance is an exception- I am 100% an outlier here but most of them are hmm. not quite as developed as they could #Most shippy feelings I've acquired are more like headcanons based off the stuff that happens in canon #Than canon things that happen during the game (but MAYBE it's because femshep can't romance talizorah)#That's just my opinion though lol and I don't think it makes the game bad. I think it's logical #You can't make space for too many branches based off romance or it'd be madness #So to keep the story more or less linear they have to be independent of the story by default #Mass effect #Mass effect liveblog #Txt #Of course I'm sure there are exceptions. And contradictions (ahem samara being the mother of all ardat yakshi)#But overall and taking into account just how many there are it's pretty good

i think one of my biggest pet peeves is when you're trying to explain or delve deeper into a topic that's *a bit* more complex or challenging with someone and they immediately cut you off and resort to making jokes about their head hurting or dumbing it down to a cartoonish level for,,, comedic effect i guess
