Character inspiration
I'm doing a character inspiration thing for my kiddo
Xue Long Yang
#1 Probably not expected, but Mulan
Tumblr media
Much like Mulan, Xue Long tries to do what he can to make his family proud. Even if it means he has to hide who he wants to be from them. He acts as how they perceive him and pushes aside his own desires to please them.
#2 Zexion from Kingdom Hearts
Tumblr media
His illusion powers took inspiration from somewhere. And that somewhere was here. I was always fascinated by illusion powers. Speaking of which…
#3 Tanizaki Junichiro from Bungou Stray Dogs
Tumblr media
Another inspiration for illusion powers. While these are different than Zexion's, they are a similiar concept. Xue Long also is similar to Tanizaki in how he can just change as a person when it comes to protecting the people he loves.
#4 Mushu from Mulan
Tumblr media
He is a long after all. And much like Mushu, he does not like being called a lizard because he is a dragon. Xue Long does try to be a good guardian for others, but that can only go so far. He is trying his best though, even if he is cracking underneath.
#5 Xiao from Genshin Impact
Tumblr media
Xue Long was actually pretty isolationist. Much like Xiao, he had tried avoiding being around other people because he viewed himself as a danger to other people. But slowly, people managed to worm their way into his heart.
#6 Alcryst from Fire Emblem Engage
Tumblr media
Much like the first impression Alcryst gives… Xue Long may seem like he is a confident person when you first meet him, but he really is insecure. He doesn't think he is good enough compared to other people and would often work harder to prove himself. Sometimes that comes at the expense of his own health.
#7 Xingqiu from Genshin Impact
Tumblr media
Xue Long is an avid reader like Xingqiu is. And also like him, he has a mischievous side to himself. He also is honorable.
And with that, I will close this off.

Most Redeemable "Villain" Tournament
It's time for another tournament! This is one I have been thinking about doing for a while now so I am excited to get it out. The bracket has been randomly generated using a random wheel generator, so without further ado, here is the bracket for the tournament:
Tumblr media
The first round will start tomorrow December 17 at 5 PM CST and each poll will be a week long.
The reason the word villain is in quotation marks is because a lot of these people may not be villains by the traditional definition, it is just people who have committed wrongdoings but also had a reason behind why they did what they did (whether that is a good reason is up to you). So remember to vote for the person you think is most redeemable, not just your favorite character!
You all may have your own thoughts about this but I have added some "propaganda" beneath the break if you want to see the reason why each of them are considered "villains" in this instance and what redeemable qualities I think they have (there will be spoilers in the list so read at your own risk).
Update: Wang Lingjiao replaced Little Apple in the bracket because she is considered a better choice for the overall theme of the tournament
Nie Mingjue
Wrongdoings: violent person (lets his temper get the better of him), narrow-minded (not supportive of things outside his own opinions)
Redeemable qualities: very pro-justice, he is slowly being poisoned by his saber, he had to grow up to fast (became a sect leader young)
Xue Yang
Wrongdoings: killed a lot of people, manipulated someone else into killing people
Redeemable qualities: rough childhood that made him mentally unstable, wanted to undo what he did to Xiao Xingchen
Nie Huaisang
Wrongdoings: manipulations resulted in the deaths of several people
Redeemable qualities: wanted to catch his brother's murderer, helped uncover a series of crimes that no one was aware of
A-Qing
Wrongdoings: she pretended to be blind, stole from people
Redeemable qualities: she needed to steal to survive, a literal child, and tried to save Xiao Xingchen
Wei Wuxian
Wrongdoings: killed a lot of people, let his anger blind him
Redeemable qualities: the people he killed were trying to kill him and had already killed the people he was trying to protect
Xiao Xingchen
Wrongdoings: killed a bunch of people
Redeemable qualities: thought he was killing walking corpses, had an interest in justice, and didn't buy into sect politics (meaning he tried to go where people actually needed help and not where he would get paid the most)
Wen Ning
Wrongdoings: killed someone he shouldn't have
Redeemable qualities: he was controlled into killing said person, an overall gentle person
Lan Qiren
Wrongdoings: extremely close-minded, was not empathetic to his student's needs, didn't follow the rules he enforced on others
Redeemable qualities: believed he was acting in their best interests
Jiang Fengmian
Wrongdoings: never stood up for his children, treated his children unequally, never stood up to his wife
Redeemable qualities: he sacrificed himself for his kids, one of the only people to show Wei Wuxian kindness
Yu Ziyuan
Wrongdoings: didn't want her children getting close to Wei Wuxian, focused on Jiang Cheng being the best, disinterested in Jiang Yanli
Redeemable qualities: sacrificed herself for her children, put her faith in Wei Wuxian in the end
Jiang Cheng
Wrongdoings: anger issues, tortured and killed every demonic cultivator he came across after Wei Wuxian died, was not a great uncle
Redeemable qualities: his entire family died, most of his demeanor comes from his childhood trauma thanks to his parents, he had to grow up way too fast
Wen Zhuliu
Wrongdoings: killing a lot of people, doing everything Wen Chao says
Redeemable qualities: he felt like he had to do everything Wen Chao said, he did not choose to be adopted by the Wens
Wen Qing
Wrongdoings: illegal surgery (did not have the consent of one of the patients), helped the Wen Ruohan during the war, occasionally short-tempered
Redeemable qualities: did not want to help Wen Ruohan, did the surgery with the patients' best interests in mind, sacrificed herself to save Wei Wuxian
Jin Zixuan
Wrongdoings: was kind of an asshole, actively hostile to Jiang Yanli (his fiancee)
Redeemable qualities: he realized his anger towards Jiang Yanli was misplaced and ended up genuinely loving her, he was actively trying to be a better person
Jin Guangyao
Wrongdoings: killed a lot of people, manipulated a lot of people, framed Wei Wuxian, started a political conspiracy
Redeemable qualities: he was trying to gain his father's favor, rough childhood led to him thinking this was the only solution
Wang Lingjiao
Wrongdoings: used her status to bully people, abused many people because she could
Redeemable qualities: her place in the Wen family was not stable so she would never be able to go against what Wen Chao wanted, her death was very disproportional to her crimes

hi!!!! i’m rereading all your nmj posts as i’m trying to characterize him in a universe with a canon-wrecking oc of mine and i was curious if you would ever see nmj forgiving or understanding jgy’s actions for killing the commander that night
ofc that was the main tipping point in their relationship, but the stuff that happened in nightless city with jgy killing the nie disciples then wrh etc, really put the nails into the coffin so to say (lol proud of that one)
now to the point, if jgy never killed the nie disciples in nightless city and subsequent stuff was changed do you think that nmj could move past everything that had happened between them beforehand?
lmk if you have any more questions or anything specific, and have a nice day!!!!
Hello friend!!!
I loveee talking about Nie Mingjue. God, how I have missed him.
Okay, so I think Nie Mingjue had a great capacity for forgiveness, especially when it came to the people he loved and held dear. I'm not sure which canon you're working with, but in the donghua, we see Nie Mingjue and Jin Guangyao grow closer once more post Jin commander's death. There's this tiny window after the brotherhood vows are made, where Jin Guangyao still frequents Qinghe Nie, being comfortable around Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue. I could be wrong, but I even think Jin Guangyao was genuinely helping him with his qi deviation, before he twisted the Song of Cleansing.
It was the Xue Yang incident that put the nail in the coffin (to steal your joke XD) because that's when Nie Mingjue snapped, as Jin Guangyao admitted to sacrificing others because he valued their lives less than he did his own.
So, without knowing what your AU is going to be like, I think Nie Mingjue could come to forgive Jin Guangyao, but will Jin Guangyao forgive him?
I am of the thought that Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue will come to have a huge falling out between them regardless if it is the Jin commander, or the Nie disciples, or Xue Yang. If it isn't one thing, it will be the other, because they have fundamentally different philosophies and values.
For them to work, there are 2 possibilities: one, Nie Mingjue remains in the dark about Jin Guangyao's true character like Lan Xichen did, or Jin Guangyao yields. Yields in the sense that he stops trying to control everything, and reaches out to his sworn brothers for help. It would be an incredibly, insanely hard thing for him to do. He would have to be honest to Nie Mingjue (and/or Lan Xichen) and I think it would be easier for him to eat his own hat.
So short answer, yes, I think Nie Mingjue could forgive him. Long answer? I don't think that would be enough.

Hey, lol here's my ask 😉
Okay, Soo. In my MDZS fic Seeking Solace, I've hit a block lol in my latest WIP chapter.
I only have 2 to 3 chapters left at max of my fic. And I'm trying to find ways to have my OC and Xiao Xingchen interact with Xue Yang for his redemption so he doesn't spiral down the wrong path (my fic is Canon divergent, and memory viewing fic/revival), so much has already changed. Everyyhing that has transpired has happened only a couple of months after WWX death at Burial Mounds. My OC and Xiao Xingchen will be heading to see Xue Yang and I need ideas of how to interact with his character and stuff, ideas that I could use to help with his redemption. I need help brainstorming ideas lol I've run out of fuel lol
I considered using candy still as a likely motivator plus kindness (possibly?) As long as he can feel it's genuine kindness or maybe Xue Yang gets saved by my OC and XXC in the fic when they go to find him.
I can't think of any other ideas or um... Possible interactions that lead to XY redemption.
Any ideas and suggestions I can use would be welcome.
(everyone is welcome to reply to this ask! i'm also gonna link the fic here, we need more OC fic rep! remember to read the tags and be kind)
Hmm well, as someone who has also written an OC fic focusing on keeping Xue Yang from walking down the path that would lead to his death, I frankly do feel like kindness, shelter and candy are good motivators - but we know from canon that sometimes that isn't enough. I'm not sure if it's 'redemption' as much as 'prevention' (predemption as I call it jokingly), but I think a key element is to make sure Xue Yang feels like he's not alone.
Telling him his pain isn't enough justification to hurt others isn't what he wants to hear, so he needs to, if anything, be eased into being able to swallow harsh truths. Before that, I think he just needs to be shown some compassion and understanding. He's a tricky character, and someone like Xiao Xingchen, while nurturing, isn't going to be telling him hurting others was justified, because he's a very morally upstanding person. That said, if the two get to know each other without trickery, they can maybe reach and understanding... However that's not what you're asking, really! LOL sorry
It's fanfic, so generally speaking you can make whatever you desire happen, but I think my suggestion would be something like... Xue Yang getting frustrated at something and showing visible signs of it (he's 17, right? He can let the mask slip a little!), and maybe Xiao Xingchen or your OC pulling him aside to maybe try and get words out of him. Nothing quite like an honest talk! But that might not be what you're after, so I encourage whoever wants to to reply to this post or reblog it too with some help

Section Four: Part XII
Things that might have been: canon divergences/retellings - includes works with pre-ep50 get-togethers
*Tether by Annerb
summary: post-sunshot AU where lwj is cursed to be in proximity to wwx at all times or become extremely ill. this one is a long fic and a real slowburn, but the development and the characterizations are absolutely incredible for everyone (except a few slipups with wq and jc’s interactions) and it really feels like the commitment to a healthy and freely chosen relationship ala cql. VERY cql-faithful, even when it comes off a little silly. despite a few bizarre plot choices (just stick with it) and rather annoying failures of communication, this is an exceptionally well-done and elaborate work and I do recommend it highly - I do think it's all worth it. it has a few more chapters left, but the author is updating frequently and it’s a completed work. work issues: none, but there’s some…weirdness in how the stygian tiger seal (which is referred to as ~the amulet~) is treated, as if it’s really completely evil. the lack of allowed for gray morality was a little frustrating. author issues: none that I can see
*Odd Geometry by maziodyne
summary: sunshot AU where wwx was not adopted by the jiangs, and is instead a healer in yunmeng, using his unusual qi powers to treat the community for no fee. elemental magic co-exists with cultivation, resulting in a unique and complex magic system. the lead-up to and entirety of the sunshot campaign - and indeed the entire fic - is extremely well-researched the characters are on-point, the ocs are super fun, the action scenes are heart-poundingly exciting, the romance is gentle and tender, the pacing clips along, and the relationships are teased out with incredible heart. absolutely a must-read. mixed canons with characterizations leaning towards cql work issues: none author issues: none! my mutual wrote this and I beta read it!!
*Tie Your Heartstring Up Tight by athena_crikey
summary: non-cultivation AU where lwj is a wu, something like a shaman who spiritually interacts with nature to provide guidance for his sect and balance to the world. he’s asked by jc to find a missing wwx, so he leaves his isolated little home in gusu to go on a journey with a strangely intelligent black hare he takes as a familiar this work is a real treat. so atmospheric! fantastically evocative descriptions of winter landscapes, wonderfully fun relationship banter and chemistry, a unique and yet authentic and well-researched setting, a satisfying little character arc for lwj as realizes the error of his ways and works to account for his mistakes, a thematically appropriate story for our main characters, smooth writing and a clean, fresh style. somber and grounded and sincere for the most part, just as lwj himself is, with wwx’s bright playfulness and sense of humor bursting through now and then. I have mixed feelings on how the conflict at the end was resolved bc I don’t think it fit the themes perfectly, but on the whole I found the ending quite satisfying work issues: ngl this xue yang was literally a homophobic stereotype. extremely suggestive and flirtatious in a pushy and repulsive way, implied to be perverse and unwholesome because he was wearing makeup, treated as though he was sexually predatory…it was really weird. he didn’t act like that in the book or any of the shows! author issues: omegaverse, forced courtesanship.egg-laying? just thought I’d mention that one but honestly I don’t even mind, uh one where wwx has to provide a dowry. like. ugh, why?
*here is a map with your name for a capital by zerodignity
summary: the second in the series that contains his hands keep turning to birds and flying away from him (him being you) postres, wwx and lwj are traveling while trying to solve the mystery of the cursed arm. lwj is full of feelings he doesn’t know how to name and embarrassed of the potential of them not being returned. wwx is likewise nervous to be vulnerable, and has an unnamed gender dysphoria to boot their conversations around wwx’s identity during and after they get together are really lovely and poignant. I liked how wwx’s dysphoria during intimacy was managed. I also appreciated how inexperienced lwj was. overall a unique concept with impeccable cql characterizatio the one odd thing is that lwj went from extremely insecure and unsure about wwx’s feelings to understanding exactly why he acts the way he does and being determined to tell him how he feels after just one drunken confession scene. the change was so abrupt as to be jarring the tag about ‘sloppiness in regards to consent’ concerned me but I think it was referring to them kissing while wwx had been drinking. during the actual sex scene there’s nothing to worry about. they went slowly and listened to each other really well and respected each other’s boundaries. it was sweet. work issues: see above - drunk kissing author issues: xy/xxc
*come home to my heart by occultings (microcomets)
summary: post-sunshot, wwx and lwj run into a curse that makes them bodyswap! not weird about it at all, mostly lighthearted and silly and sweet romantic angst. almost funny enough to almost be a comedy, but at it’s core youthful and joyful and tender. I smile so big reading this… work issues: none author issues: allusions to cnc. sex pollen, genderbends
some nights we open up the flood by WhenasInSilks
summary: wwx and lwj's post-yi city meanderings on xxc and sl, leading to a tender get-together. atmospheric and poetic. very strong parallels that haunt wwx, and lovely characterizations there was meant to be a second chapter where they have sex (I guess) but it was never written, but the first chapter is tidy and functions perfectly well on its own work issues: none author issues: song lan/xy, xxc/xy, niyao, xiyao. one of their works has 'rape/noncon elements’ tread with caution
while covered in mud by merthurlin
summary: a BM fix-it fic where nhs decides he has a moral compass and shows up to prove to his brother than the wens aren’t a threat. humorous and fun, although rather ooc in premise. the nhs and nmj are so charming in this one, and it’s heartwarming even if it’s not very likely work issues: none author issues: xiyao
hey brother by fensandmarshes
summary: a series focused on trans wwx that follows cql canon, by a trans author.. I liked all the works, but my favorite is you may think you’re winning but checkmate - so raw and devastating. lwj is trans too! work issues: none author issues: none
a quiet room, a night, a dawn by BarbV
summary: a sweet little get-together fic set during the snowy scene in the jingshi. pretty straightforward and nothing particularly remarkable, but the dynamic and dialogue is very similar to how imagine it would go. very gentle, very tender work issues: none author issues: none
*To love you is to know myself by natcat5
summary: oof, what a monster. essentially a retelling of the story from lwj’s pov. it blends novel and cql canon, which wrecks havoc on the characterizations, but the resulting characters and story are so interesting. I like the writing and dialogue quite a lot, and the ending is incredibly satisfying. it skims over things in canon we already saw, so its not too repetitive. also, the title rules unfortunately the section that covers the first siege of BM just drags on so miserably and for so long that I really had to apply myself to make it through. worth it, but whew. also the very end of the main fic has some really nonsensical and contrived conflict but overall it’s a solid work the second work in this series, where wwx and lqr have a confrontation postcanon, is absolutely phenomenal and my favorite fic, bar none, about their relationship mind the notes - when wwx is talking about some ghost women he brought back, he implies sexual violence in their history work issues: none author issues: none
*A Silent Song by SpicyReyes
summary: Deaf wwx AU that otherwise follows canon. this is handled really well, imo. author is working from familial experience and the integration of a Deaf character into canon feels realistic and grounded. it only covers a few scenes in the CR arc of the show before being abandoned, but it’s still worth a read. I would have loved an entire retelling; it was so interesting and the characterizations for everyone, especially wwx, were spot-on work issues: none author issues: none
*Wangxian extra scenes by deliciousblizzardshark
summary: a series of extra scenes slipped into canon, in which wwx and lwj get together far earlier. the series starts back in the cold pond cave, with snippets up until the sunshot campaign. young wwx and lwj are really cute and lwj’s melodrama is endearing and VERY funny, and I like how conscientious and kind wwx is compared to how callous he’s often written despite struggling with a lot of internalized homophobia, lwj is a lot more communicative than in canon, and wwx knows what he wants, so their attraction and regard for each other actually goes somewhere. of course, by the sunshot arc that makes everything even more painful. I like how the emotion was written, and the angst in the last few were just so on-point. also the lwj pov in the last work was darkly hilarious. cql canon work issues: none author issues: none
Covered By Frost and Snowby Siamesa
summary: novel-verse AU where a-qing is taken in by lwj after being attacked and left for dead by xy. I love her in this - even after for living for years with the lans she’s still sneaky, a liar and a thief, slightly manipulative, and cynical. because of her street smarts she feels protective of the juniors and of characters far older than her, including lwj. since she’s so different from the gentry and since she has such a personality, her relationship with lwj (and the rest of the lans) is genuinely unique in anything I’ve read. I also liked the way her past trauma is treated, and how she actually does impact the plot. imagining a world where she survived is so rewarding work issues: a-qing is physically disabled in this one, which I liked most of the time, but her method of communication is often treated exactly the same as speaking, which is annoying because speaking doesn’t have the same mechanics or restrictions author issues: this fic is faithful to novel canon dynamic so all the wx scenes stressed me out. it seems like there was no drunk sex scene which is a relief, but it has everything else + the trope of ‘these adults are so stupid and they need me, a teenager, to get them to admit they like each other’ which made me cringe along with the above, wrote something tagged ‘dark!lwj’ whatever that means
Resilience. by Vrishchika
summary: short novel-based time-travel fix-it in which, four years after wwx’s death, jc uses an array to return to the sunshot campaign and tries to arrange for wwx to be killed by the wens. his actions change things in ways he doesn’t expect. jc is very much his angry, entitled, and homophobic novel self, so the way that his and wwx’s relationship deteriorates as wwx sets boundaries and seeks better treatment for himself with other characters is extremely satisfying. a comforting and honestly quite warm little fic where everything goes right for wwx, nobody dies who didn’t have it coming, and all is well. author uses the phrase ‘silver eyes’ a distressing number of times tho work issues: spoilers ig but lwj goes back in time as well to try to stop jc from hurting wwx, so his eventual relationship with wwx feels slightly creepy to me since this is an older lwj in the body of his younger self and wwx just. doesn't know I guess author issues: genderbends
Warmth in the Snow, a Light in the Dark by names_for_dusk
summary: one part of a longer series that I didn’t find much interest in. already-together wwx and lwj talk, and then sleep together after the snowy jingshi scene. it’s sweet, they’re nearly married. there are some hiccups along the way when wwx isn’t ready to be as vulnerable is lwj is, but they’re working on it. and wwx glad to be alive and present. the first two parts of the series are alright, but the rest look bad work issues: none. there’s slight experimentation with using force during intimacy that freaked me out when I first read it, but when I went back I realized it was honestly fine author issues: wow this person has a lot going on…dubcon, sl/xy, jc/wen ning, all the juniors together, xiyao, niyao
Ask Me Again by moonlitten
summary: not a very memorable plot - typical lwj stays at BM and it solves all the problems - but I’m including it because it’s the only fic in this list that was based on the donghua. this is apparent through the language and characterization choices the author makes, which are rather different from either novel or cql canon. a unique and at times bizarre experience that I quite enjoyed work issues: none author issues: none
This Tornado Loves You by etymologyplayground
summary: a getting-together fic set just after wwx and lwj escape koi tower. there’s no plot, but the style is really fun and I just love the way wwx’s personality is written. strictly novel-verse work issues: not too serious: - wwx admits to kissing lwj when drunk and lwj admits to the pm kiss. obviously it’s good they came clean because they didn’t in canon, but I really don’t like that they did it in the first place, and it wasn’t treated as seriously as I would have liked. neither of them minded! author issues: genderbends

for the ask game (whichever ones you want to answer):
Top 5 vegetables
top 5 story ideas you wish you had time to write
top 5 places you’d like to visit
top 5 wtf moments your favorite OC got into
ugh i want to answer ALL of these, but the first is just so deeply compelling. i love veggies, so it's hard to pick, but i have done my best:
artichoke
gai lan
ramps
shishito peppers
lima beans
as for top 5 story ideas i wish i had some time to write, here are some longfic ideas i have floating around in my head. some i've had for over a real long time now. they're fun to toy with, to roll over in my mind until they're smooth like a river stone.
a babylon 5/mdzs crossover with telepaths and songxuexiao, with xue yang being a telepath who is on the run and song lan as a psi corps cop tasked with tracking him down.
a deeply intricate post ca:tws winterhawk story where clint is holed in in a safehouse somewhere and bucky hunts him down and asks for his help in exchange for information on phil coulson's whereabouts. loops in some early agents of shield stuff and is kind of an around-the-world casefic.
currently i'm toying with the idea of a x-files au where krycek runs into mulder in a bdsm club. some horrible things ensue.
a very strange omegaverse (i don't even really like omegaverse) fma:b au where roy is a late-presenting omega and edward is an alpha. i feel like this would mostly just be self-indulgent identity misery more than it would ever be porn.
i have a kylux scp!au partially written. i think about it sometimes, bc i love the vibe (no one is having a great time) and the universe (so spooky, so strange, so governmental) so much.
[ask me my top 5 anything]

Hi everyone! 💖
As mentioned, I'm still very much stuck on chapter 52, but given how long it's been since I posted chapter 50, I figured I could post chapter 51 anyway. I really hope this blockage goes away soon, it's getting really frustrating. 😢 But I hope you enjoy the chapter, we meet a new character! 😋
As always, thank you so much to @byallaccountsitdoesntmakesense for being my wonderful beta! ♥
Reminder that this fic has a Spotify playlist, as well as separate arc playlists for Act 1!

@deathbyoctopi thanks for playing the ask game with me! You asked quite a few questions, so this is quite long, so I've put it under the cut :)
Favorite place to write.
I seem to do most of my writing on the train to/from work… But I dream of going on holiday and having an apartment by the beach with a balcony where I could sit and write at leisure as I look out over the sea 😉
6. Favorite character you ever created (even if its not OC, all characters are fun to write)
I’ve not written many OCs, but I would say A-Feng from my XueXiao The Prisoner of Jinlintai series. His love story started out awkward and shy, developed into passion and then ended in heartbreak and deadly revenge, and I thoroughly enjoyed writing all of that for him :D
8. Favorite trope to write.
Smut… :D
9. Least favorite trope to write.
I have never and would never want to write a permanent break up of my main pairings, or a coffee shop AU.
23. Single or multi POV, and why?
I think I often naturally write multi POV. Maybe because it’s interesting to see the same situation through different eyes and show the different interpretations and misunderstandings?
30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.
Quite a hard question as I’ve forgotten a lot of my older fics! But looking at the ones I’ve written for The Untamed, which I remember best, I think it’s a toss up between the following two:
‘The candy wobbled slightly from the impact, but he didn’t lose it from his grasp; as Xue Yang lay, unmoving, it soon became still. – from Liberation, the first fic I ever wrote for The Untamed / XueXiao. I was drowning in emotions when I wrote that fic, I’d not written anything for any fandom for ages and suddenly got hit by the desperate need to pour the angsty emotions Yi City aroused in me into fic. I like this line as it just feels so sad to me – it’s Xue Yang’s last moment, he’s held onto this candy from Xiao Xingchen for so long that it’s become inedible, and yet it’s so important he can’t let it go even as he’s dying, can’t tear his eyes away from it, it's the last thing he ever sees; and as he dies, the candy stills too, all movement, all life gone forever…
The other line I like a lot is this simple one, ‘Jin Guangyao had known not to accept tea from him. Xiao Xingchen did not.’ – from Waste Not, Want Not. It’s a short fic which has never had many readers tbh (prob the cannibalism tag puts them off!), but I think it’s one of my faves – it was so fun and so easy to write, and it felt good writing something a bit dark-themed while staying light-hearted. I think some of my other fics make Xue Yang a bit soppy (in a passionate, obsessed way), which I personally enjoy, but this fic felt a bit more true to him. And this line, I think, was a bit ominous and expressed the cannibalism theme of the story without needing to go into grisly detail!
35. Tell some backstory details about Xue Yang (the omega) in your story Two Heads are Better than One.
Hmm, I’m not sure I have a lot of backstory to share… But just a few thoughts about Xue Yang... that he has always been disgusted by the fact that he’s an omega since he presented, and that disgust is based on fear. He fears losing control – that his biology will drive him to do crazy things that he’d never want to do outside of his heat and end up dooming himself; and that there are so many alphas out there who want to take control away from him and keep him under their (knot) thumb. It’s just another reason to hate society too, the way that alphas have all the power and omegas are trapped at home to breed.
So he has been taking heat suppressants his whole life. They are one of the most important things in his life, at least as important as Jiangzai, since both offer him vital protection in a dangerous society that would use him for all he can give, even against his will.
At the very least, he’s determined to eke a bitter pleasure out of his situation by being as un-omega-like as he possibly can, shocking everyone he meets with his uncouth brashness, violence, disrespect, and general unruliness. Only something truly out of the ordinary, like the exhilaration of finally wreaking vengeance on his bitterest enemy, could cause him to forget to take his heat suppressants…

Thanks for answering my ask.....if you don't mind me asking (again), who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Please don't apologize! These are fun :D I hope you can find something you like in my replies! 💜💖💜
I'm realizing that I don't ship a whole lot of things, but I get really invested in a handful. I deeply want more involving women, but I sadly just haven't found a lot in media that I relate to or find compelling?? :( I have more women in relationships in my OCs, but all of the following are m/m.
1. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, from MXTX's Mo Dao Zu Shi, canon: These guys are individually such fundamentally good and selfless people and express it with wildly different impacts to their reputations. Extremely different personalities while alike in all the right ways. The longing. The gentle care and appreciation for one another. Also unfathomably horny. They have a cute house and pet rabbits.
2. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, from MXTX's Tian Guan Ci Fu, canon: So. SOFT. Just. The gentlest and most unrelenting devotion. Eight hundred years of longing. It is unfair to compare any other slow burn to these guys. Hua Cheng is batshit insane but we forgive him for being a stalker and a zealot because he is so unhealthy levels of in love, and I am such a sucker for it. They are unfailingly so kind to one another and it murders me.
3. Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang, from MXTX's Mo Dao Zu Shi, possibly one-sided canon? Def not requited: Okay so this isn't a ship I'd go down with by any means, but I just enjoy how fucked up it is. Xue Yang is a psychopath, liar, and literal serial killer and Xiao Xingchen is a saint who deserved better than what happened. I'm just fascinated by Xue Yang's horrible little brain getting attached to the one person who ever showed him real kindness, and how he was never going to be able to redeem himself or even acknowledge his mistakes in a way that they could ever be together. Xue Yang is a bad person and the narrative neither forbids you from caring about him nor tries to absolve him. Just really well-written tragedy.
4. Keith and Shiro, from Voltron, not canon but we all agree that canon shafted everyone: Okay yeah I still love them. The anti thing was new and spooky to me when I first joined the fan community, so I was a secret sheith fan for a while, but these two are just special to me. They never give up on each other. That's a whole Thing. They actually get each other's dumb adrenaline junkie hobbies and their deep senses of justice, and they complement and support each other in the mature ways they need to grow as people. The stupid, unwavering devotion thing. The Eyes. The soft way they say each other's names??? Kills me. For me, canon feels like it was truly built on the foundation of their relationship.
5. Keith and Lance, from Voltron, not canon but we all agree that canon shafted everyone: I started out only posting Keith/Lance on AO3 because I was new to like, Talking to People and didn't want to get jumped by antis, and klance was the anointed, schoolboard-approved ship at the time. These two are sweet in that competitive boys way, and they gradually grow and become friends who actually support each other. It takes them a minute, and canon doesn't do it justice and then kind of uncomfortably forces it, but they get there.
6. Fenris and Hawke, from Dragon Age, canon depending on playthrough: Wow. Again, the Devotion. Fenris is a character that Hawke can really help heal from his past. They actually make a profound difference in each other's lives. The puppy eyes. Fenris's very real and nuanced trust issues and his efforts to navigate them. Hawke having opportunities to truly Support him. They can have great conversations and affect each other's perspectives on important issues. Love them.
7. Kvothe and Bast, from Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicles, unconfirmed as of yet but at least one-sided canon as far as I'm concerned: A pair of fucked-up people. One is an unreliable narrator with possibly a case of megalomania + self-loathing, and the other is an unhinged Fae prince with a hero-worshiping crush on him that is dangerous for everyone else in the vicinity. Bast is scary. I am obsessed with him.
8. Lu Qingyun and Liu Jianghe, from Saved the Public Enemy by Mistake, canon: Please please please read this manhua. It's ongoing and incredible. It has six fics on AO3 and I want to talk to people about it. Dark wuxia story with spooky cultivation, a surly doctor, and an unpredictable genius maniac who isn't really the bad guy. These guys are ridiculous, and it's confirmed that they get together in the future and have a soft, happy ending, but for now their relationship is delightfully strange?? They have deep trust and respect for each other, and it's THERE once you see it, but the narrative does a great job of not showing it too much on the surface. Very cleverly written. I have a feeling that Liu Jianghe has been in love with Lu Qingyun from before the start.
9. Shion and Nezumi, from Atsuko Asano's No. 6, canon: Chaotic revolutionaries in a post-nuclear fallout dystopian utopia. Both simultaneously very intelligent and so stupid. Melodramatic bastards. Shion is the idealist and Nezumi is the one who just wants to burn it all down (he doesn't). They open each other's eyes to a lot of things, emotionally and existentially. My favorite blend of very different people with ultimately similar values, but different ways of going about them. They also can call each other out on their bullshit, which is important.
Having trouble thinking of anyone else 😂 All of these are ones I've cared enough to dabble in fic about, whether I've posted it or not, which I think is a decent metric. I'm nice to myself so I tend to lean toward canon stuff.
Thank you again for asking! Have a great day! 💕💐✨

love note: who likes who? crushes? relationships? are they mutual or unrequited?
owo
Ooh!~ Well for this one, I will be mentioning some OCs that belong to my dear friend @twstwhisper
Crushes:
Sebastien Cadieux has a crush on Nalani Kalani. If those feelings are requited, it is hard to tell. He also likes Sonne Clemens.
Aster Nightshade has a crush on Nyneve Brennan. While he is not good at showing his feelings, it is likely his feelings are understood. The two of them get along well.
Longwei Jiang has a crush on Roche Laverne. Longwei isn't really good at expressing his feelings but he is trying.
Relationships:
Jian-Yu Song is dating Ziwei Lin. These two are very obvious with their affections through words and gifts. And it is a pain for others to deal with. Anyone in Heartslabyul cannot escape it since these two are in that dorm together. So yes. Feelings are definitely requited.
Some could say that Xue Long Yang and Jiawen Zhang are dating, but it is hard to tell. They seem like they could be just friends, but who really knows? Xue Long doesn't really seem like the kind of person to show much affection, but he shows he cares for Jiawen through little gifts.
Sonne Clemens, Nyneve Brennan, Roche Laverne, Ziwei Lin, and Jiawen Zhang belong to @twstwhisper

Nice!! another of these games! ^-^ Let's see, let's see...
4.Where do you find inspiration for new ideas? pfff hahaha idk, random things. I see a post talking about a kink, next thing I know I really really want to write about that kink. Or a special pairing, or a funny situation... I also draw a lot of inspiration from other writers, that's how I end up with so many fics derivative from other works. There is something very challenging in trying to understand a character as written by another artist, and trying to follow the same train of thought...
8.Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story? I'm rubbish at endings (unless I have very clear what sort of last punch I want to throw) and as for beginnings sometimes I feel like I am unfocused or don't know if I'm dragging on a bit too much... Middles are my thing, then!
16.How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them? pah!! who knows, there are so many of my docs (numbered!! I don't learn) with random concepts or lines waiting to be remembered and developed... I'll have to disappoint you, though. Nothing worth reading in stock U_U
40.If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see? I would be downright melting if someone did artwork like that for me, never mind the fic or scene. whatever impacts them the most, or find the most beautiful. I personally like a lot the visual of Xiao Xingchen with a veil (Xie Lian style <3) so something like the scene from A Comedy of Yi City Errors when xue yang helps him down the stairs and can't take his eyes off him... or the other from Red Sun Rises, when Xiao Xingchen waits for Xue Yang in their room wearing the veiled hat and nothing else XD
55.Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones? Xue yang will always be my favourite, my darling boy. I don't thing my way of writing him has changed much, but then again I haven't been writing for long either... Amongst OCs, my favourite is the stormcloud, that oversized toddler-brain natural disaster trying to rule over some ants ^w^
75.What scene in The Stromcloud took the longest to write? What was difficult about it?  Speaking of!! I was very hesitant with the last chapter (I promise, more are to come... someday...) because it's the first one the boys get to explore each other. I wanted it to feel warranted and not rushed, but I was so impatient with it, so eventually it seemed like the story was a bit disjointed. It tends to happen to me with longer fics, that's why I admire you guys so much that you can pull it off (I don't have the patience!)
76.Did you have any ideas that didn’t make the final cut of Uber-confident?  I considered adding a short epilogue with the aftermath, particularly how Song Lan felt about the whole thing and tried to report it but xiao xingchen was too ashamed and reluctant... but as you know, angst is not my forte, so I ended up scraping the whole idea and simply ending on a sharp note. If someone else wants to pick up the ball, feel free to do so! >/////<
Thanks for the ask game!! This was fun, I'm always so happy to share these little things and also learn more about you ^-^ <3

YilingWei Sect ideas! Connected to this AU
__________________________
[Sect Members]
Wei Wuxian- Sect Leader (also teaches Study of Talisman and Arrays)
Wen Qing- Head Physician/ Second in Command
Wen Ning- Community Chief/ Archery Master
Xiao Xingchen- Swords Master/ Cultivation (the orthodox one)
Luo Qingyang(MianMian)- Swords Master
Song Lan- Master of Rituals (tbh sl seems like the perfect person for this, he was raised in a temple so he prolly has a lot of knowledge about things, and hee’s the right person fore discipline.)
Mo Fan- the 6 Arts
[Disciples]
Mo Xuanyu- First Head Disciple
Wen Yuan- First Heir
Xue Yang
Xiao Qing
{others that will prolly be ocs}
[] The BM community is filled with people who were turned away by villages or have no where left to go, so WWX helps them and let’s the people settle in BM.
People love him, even the Yiling residents, so if shady cultivators come to extort information about their laozu, well, who really feels like speaking today? No one.
[] The Wei disciples are called “Guides” instead of “Demonic Cultivators” because technically they don’t cultivate with resentful energy.
They’ve studied it so they know how it behaves, how it would react, and how to influence it.
A Guide’s main duty is to reform a spirit’s malicious intent before putting them to rest. They will take measures to change their resentment into something neutral, or if possible, tranquil.
It may be harder than normal exorcism, but it ensures that most spirits will end up in the reincarnation cycle without leaving any bubbling resentment in the world. Because what they do isn’t “cleansing” the energy out of the spirit, they convert it into something less malicious.
Any sect device or technique that would include you having to absorb any type of resentful energy in order for it to activate , has been modified by WWX.
Talismans? They absorb resentment from the surroundings instead of directly from a person.
Empathy? WWX invents a watered down version of it called “Espy” where it will possess a certain object instead of directly controlling the person’s body. (empathy is rarely used by his disciples, he’s only allowed it if the situation is dire or there are no other choices)
Basically speaking, WWX has totally baby-proofed everything.
[] The YilingWei Sect worship the HeiBai Wuchang and because of their continued efforts to reform evil spirits and send them into the reincarnation cycle, the HeiBai Wuchang has blessed them with long lives.
The HeiBai Wuchang are two deities that are tasked to escort the dead to the underworld. The Black Guard lead the evil while the White Guard soothed the good souls. They punish the wicked and bless the good. They are also worshipped for great fortune.
(Please keep in mind that I am not a native and my knowledge of chinese mythologies are only basic, I am not a reliable source for these things.)
[] Every resident of the BM hold a whistle, it’s a small thing that’s colored in black with a single character written in red ink to match with chenqing and it’s red tassel.
The whistle is multi-purposed. Originally WWX had crafted it as a means for keeping the residents from absorbing resentful energy(since at the time he hadn’t fully established a human-friendly area within the BM).
It was tuned to play a high note which was the key part of the song “Cleansing”, all they had to do was blow on the whistle for a few hours everyday and they would be kept safe from resentment.
Then soon after it was also being used as a token for the barriers. The character inscribed in red ink is actually a small array that lets the holder be recognized by the barriers and be let in.
Wen Ning suggested that they should make some sort of code only they would understand, in case there is a situation where they cannot speak or cannot reach someone in time.
They’ve made a small little tradition with their community where they play the whistle at night, just before they sleep. The sound that follows the first whistle sooths everyone, knowing that they aren’t alone.
They’ve also made it some sort of ritual to play the whistle while sending off their disciples to night hunts, in a way that tells them “good luck”
_______________________________
That’s all the ideas I have for now>>> Though I might post more ab it. I reallllly love yilingwei sect
I’ve been deprived of fanfics regarding this au, so much so that im almost making one myself
This takes place after WWX steals away the wen remnants btw!

Sounds fun, so I’m adding mine here too :D 8/10 are MDZS/The Untamed, 2/10 are for The Witcher (Netflix)!
1. Xue Yang had finally achieved his goal and wreaked his revenge on Chang Ci'an by massacring his entire clan! (Two Heads Are Better Than One, Song Lan/Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, explicit A/B/O)
2. A-Feng yawned tiredly. (Finding You Like This, A-Chen/A-Feng (OCs), background Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, a short side story to my multi-chapter fic The Prisoner of Jinlintai)
3. It wasn't how he had expected, afterwards. (Afterwards, Xiao Xingchen & Xue Yang, post-XXC suicide sad fic)
4. “I’m afraid it’s simply not possible,” Jin Guangyao said, a sympathetic smile on his face as he regarded Xue Yang, who was standing before his writing desk, hands on his hips, foot tapping restlessly. (The Prisoner of Jinlintai, Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, false imprisonment & enemies to lovers)
5. Xiao Xingchen had drawn the short straw today, so he was currently feeling gently around the plump end of an aubergine, testing its softness and trying to feel for any bruises or signs of decay. (Final Victory, Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, canon-typical deception & murderous escapades)
6. The late evening air was cool, a gentle breeze rustling the long grass as Song Lan made his way along the narrow path away from the bustling town. (A Matter of Hours, Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, Song Lan, reimagining the Yi City confrontation & truth reveal)
7. Xiao Xingchen looked glorious. (The Taste of Rain on Skin, Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, Yi City smut :P)
8. “Nine years is a long time, Daozhang,” Xue Yang whispered, brushing his thumb over the still and silent lips of the white-robed man lying in the coffin and cupping his cheek. (Liberation, Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, canon-compliant, looking at the fight in Yi City between XY and WWW & LWJ through Xue Yang's eyes)
9. Geralt pushed open the heavy wooden door of the tavern with a sigh. (A Helping Hand, Geralt/Jaskier (The Witcher), smut :D)
10. Exhausted and heartbroken as they all were, they couldn’t leave their home in that state, blood and gore from the great monstrous carcasses spattered across every surface of the dining hall, thick chunks of the heavy wooden tables and chairs scattered over the floor; they couldn’t leave the bodies of their fallen brothers, discarded and forgotten amongst the debris. (Just Like Normal, Geralt & Jaskier (The Witcher), post-season 2 continuation, angst)
Last Ten Opening Lines
Rules: post the first sentence of your last ten fics. If you haven’t written ten fics, share as many first-sentences as you have.
I don't write often so this is gonna span my entire time writing fic LOL
Kinda-tagged by @crimsonrainseekingflower (phenomenal and prolific author) 🌟
1. Spending so much time pretending to be Xiao Xingchen might've gotten to Xue Yang's head, because he seems to have developed some affection for Song Lan despite himself. (your hands and mine, Song Lan & Xue Yang, brief gore and general unpleasantry)
2. The weather was dreadful for a date in the eyes of most. (food for monsters, Xue Yang & A-Qing, modern songxiao adoption AU)
3. Song Lan has realized something. (unthawing, Song Lan & Xue Yang, corpseyang AU)
4. "Ow, ow, ow!" (Not Just A Pawn, the gentlest Xue Yang/Wen Chao, revival AU)
5. The Afterlife was a strange place. (The Way To His Heart Is Through His Stomach (Oh God Please Don't Eat Me), Wen Chao/Qi Rong, crossover fic in original setting with explicit sexual content in the latest chapter lol)
6. Three months had gone by since the last of the Cloud Recesses had been spruced up and restored. (WWXSSSSBC: A Day In The Life, Wangxian|Qingmian|Wen Chao & Wen Ning|Wen Zhuliu & Wang Lingjiao, extras to Book Club)
7. "Xue Yang, do whatever you want." (Dawn Chorus, Xue Yang/Wen OC, set in a vague take on the CQL continuity, some violence but mostly domesticity)
8. The storm blew open the stolen door to the run down shrine, pelting its floor with heavy rain and rustling the talismans lining the walls. (I'm Better Than Him, Xue Yang & Wen Chao, revival AU)
9. Birthdays for the gang had featured pricy gifts ever since Wen Chao got mixed up with them, but since this was the year they'd graduate from high school to face the big scary world, the baby of the group had gone the extra mile. (Frozen Pond, Jiang Cheng/Wen Chao, everybody is friends silly modern high school AU established by @f-f-friend and myself)
10. The year Wei Wuxian got kicked out of the Cloud Recesses was meant to be a quiet one. (If You're Reading This, It's Too Late, the OG Jiang Cheng/Wen Chao crackfic, played mostly straight, some sexual scenes but not very graphic)
So like mixed bag stuff here, lots of rarepairs and crackships and LOTS of chao, mostly fixit but not all, almost exclusively AU... Just the kinda pinhead I am as my dad would say. Tagging all authors who follow me, strut your stuff

okay so i had the thought: what would my non-yrz ocs be doing in the mdzs universe? and then the idea just kinda ate my brain for a while.
Hana - youngest child of wen ruohan, the only daughter, and the heir. she’s wrh’s pride and joy, the child everyone has to measure up to. she surpassed wen xu by age ten. wen chao wasn’t even an afterthought.  she’s as stupidly competent at cultivation as she is at everything else. ambivalent to her family and sect, doesn’t even care enough to hate them. super fucking detached, because she didn’t even have kise to ground her in this life. instead, she has i  wzl. even though she doesn’t need protection, she’s still the heir, the future of the wen. wzl is hana’s only human connection among the wens. yikes. stabs wrh to death when he starts going evil overlord. feels nothing about it -- she just thought a war would be annoying. wzl says nothing, because -- what can he say? she’s the sect leader now. almost certainly ends up with wen qing, as the only one who’s not high keyed terrified of her. low key terrified, sure! hana will take what she can get. (then time passes and -- it’s hard to be terrified when you’re furious at your stupid sect leader b/c hana is just the fucking worst patient)(hana worries wen qing. it’s like she doesn’t care if she lives or dies). Name: Wen Hui (to destroy by fire, lol subtle wrh), courtesy name Ronghua (glory and splendor, also hua is the same character for flower!)(she gets a courtesy name because she’s not a Disappointment like her brothers)
Masae - he’s Jiang (possibly younger brother of Jfm??) for five minuets before he gets bored and wanders off. hailed as a divine healer. possibly a demonic cultivator? really fucking good at talismans. Ue is a cursed blade, or a spirit parasite that attached masae and got attached emotionally  masae never bothered to like. get rid of it. possibly they still eat people? maybe a venom type situation?? anyway, i know that one day masae trips over xue yang and is charmed when nine year old xue yang threatens to stab him to death in increasingly creative ways. adorable. he basically kidnaps xue yang to be his son/disciple (does xue yang end up more well adjusted or less??? i’ll leave that up to you). also very fond of meng yao when they meet, b/c of course he is.  still marries this world version of aizen perhaps??? Name: Jiang Zhen (blessing), courtesy name Baituo (to cast off (old ideas))
Oc!Kiba - Jin!!!!! Not main line, but i feel like he’d be related to jin zixun b/c kiba  can’t catch a break tbh. adjusts slightly better to being among the snakes of koi tower than the dogs of the inuzuka. he’s an orphan. a nobody. there’s like, three people who know his name among the jin.  He’s a master of anything related to going unnoticed or information gathering. by the time he’s twelve madame jin has payed him to slip impotence drugs into jin guangshan’s cup for a year straight and he never gets caught. he hears and sees pretty much everything, because he’s so low-key. has dirt on e v e r y o n e. yes, even you. blackmail is a beautiful thing. sometime in the future, he might defect? or take over the sect via puppet master strings?? honor is for suckers. very nervous and quiet as a kid, but grows into the living version of that one song line ‘if your boyfriend says he’s got beef, tell him i’m a vegitarian and i ain’t fucking scared of him’ real quick.  it takes meng yao three full years to even notice that kiba is not what he seems. probably assassinates jqs and doesn’t feel bad about it.(you know what? yrz would kill to have kiba’s super power of invisibility. the world is so unfair) Name: Jin Wu (fog/mist/vapor), courtesy name Yinmo (to vanish gradually/ to disappear/ to fade out). (doesn’t get the zi character b/c he’s not mainline jin)
Jeong - tbh, i had a tough time with this one. I think they probably started off with Baoshan Sanren, but came down the mountain, and joined the Nie after a rough few years among the common people. the Nie creed of facing evil and protecting the innocent would appeal to them the most. They joined the sect a few years before Papa Nie qi deviated. when he did deviate, they killed him so nmj wouldn’t have too. nmj is grateful, but it also takes him years to fully forgive them. in ‘penance’ jeong became nhs’s personal guard because they had previous experience body guarding (the whole king killer thing still, uh. it happened). also it takes a burden off nmj’s shoulders to know that one of the most powerful people in the sect is watching over his little brother. (there may have been a few attempts on nhs’s life before this by the wen).  nhs is thrilled by this, b/c jeong is notoriously easy going when they’re not in training mode, and all children naturally love jeong. really fucking sturdy, even for a cultivator. might actually be immortal by this point. not quite human? might’ve known cangse sanren, depending how long they were on the mountain. Name: Chénfú (ebb and flow, or rise and fall, or sinking and floating) Sanren (b/c if wwx’s mom can use the name so can jeong).(nhs and all the nie kids call them Renren lol).
