Of A Feather
M!Harpy x F!Human
This was an entry into a little contest. I went with a harpy plague doctor as my character. Some people liked it and that was enough for me.
When the village head informed me that he could not pay me in gold or goods, I was sympathetic. A bad harvest combined with a harsh winter had left them with little to spare. What little resources they had were used up to try and keep the remaining people healthy, at my behest.Â
While I had no intention of exploiting him, there was still the matter of payment. After all, services had been performed, supplies used, risks taken, and time spent.
If he couldnât pay me with such things, what was left?Â
Favors and flesh.Â
I was taken to the manâs home, where a small gathering of people awaited me. They had obviously picked from the best looking and available people in the village. Hair combed and styled, attire perfectly coordinated to match skin and eye color, and subtle perfumes that did little to mask the stench of death that still clung to the doors.Â
Even in the dim light of the candles, I could tell they were dazzling.Â
The life of a plague doctor was a lonely one. Constantly traveling from town to town, potential suitors being scared off by the rumors that disease still clung to me, and many that I met died within the week. An omen of Death, bringer of the Reaper, harvester of Life. Titles that did not grant me land or wealth.Â
The lot in front of me showed a fear I was all too familiar with. Some cast their eyes downward, but it did little to hide it. A few dared to glare or even scowl when they thought I wasnât looking. Â
I was about to depart, not wanting to further upset those still grieving, when the door opened.Â
A chill from the autumn night stirred the curtains and made the candles flicker. As shadows danced across the walls, I could hear a few muffled whimpers and whispers.Â
Labored breathing followed.Â
The woman at the doorway was still wearing the gowns of mourning, her hair tucked away under a scarf. Despite this, her eyes werenât red and puffy.Â
In fact, she looked almost⊠Relieved to see me. She clutched a lantern, but I could see it shaking in her hand. For an instant, I feared she would drop it.Â
When I took a step toward her, there was a flicker of hesitation in her eyes. She stared at my gloved hand, the fingers slightly limp.Â
As her lips parted, I expected a biting remark or curse thrown my way.Â
Instead, she tightened her grip on the lantern and set her jaw.Â
Standing up straight, she drew herself to her full height. The lantern shook in her grasp, the flame dancing and moving the shadows on the wall. While far from an intimidating stature, the boldness that rolled off her gave me pause.Â
Determination now gleamed in her gaze, the lamplight making it look almost like a hunterâs glint.Â
Tension rose in the room. Eyes flicked back and forth. The crowd cleared a path as she walked up to me, no hesitation in her step.Â
There was no need to ask who I was. The mask and robes left little doubt.Â
Without a word, she curtsied to me. She looked back at the villagers, as if daring them to try and stop her. No one said a thing. In fact, everyone seemed to be relieved at her presence. There was a glimmer of hope.Â
No one would have to choose a sacrifice to give to the boogeyman.Â
We left the home, the door slamming behind us.Â
I led the way, and she followed me to the outskirts. Not one person stopped to thank her or bid farewell. It suddenly made sense to me. They had wanted to be rid of her, and she of them. A few faces in windows twisted and contorted with disgust. Never with sorrow.Â
Like me, she was an outsider.
Once we reached the border, where the dirt road gave way to the sprawling beyond, I saw her hesitate. She stared over her shoulder, and for a moment I thought she would weep.Â
Clumsily, I reached into one of the pouches on my belt and produced a handkerchief. She stared at the square of fabric, and then began to laugh. Tears still welled, but I felt better knowing they werenât from sorrow.Â
I found myself entranced with the emotion and expression. She quieted too soon, and we were once more on our way.Â
We walked in silence, and I was beginning to work out the terms of a contract and the conditions of my new companionâs stay.Â
She continued to look out of the corner of her eye at me, smirking when our gazes met. I didnât pry into the details of her life, nor did she mine. Perhaps it would come in time, when she became accustomed to her new position.Â
When we arrived at my home, I allowed her inside and set up her accommodations. She explored the rooms and seemed satisfied. Rather than shrink away or cry out at the sight of my more macabre collections, she seemed intrigued.Â
It was far from luxurious, but she would be comfortable until we found a more long term solution. I also supplied her with books so we could begin her training proper. She took them, but seemed confused, raising a quizzical brow.Â
âWe will start your studies tomorrow. By the end of the week, you should know what to expect moving forward.âÂ
I bid her goodnight then went to my own room to draw up the contract of her stay.Â
An assistant would help relieve the burden of a few jobs, but I couldnât afford to keep one for very long. My focus was purely on this new endeavor that I never removed my clothing to prepare for slumber.Â
I was perched at my desk, having scribbled out dozens of lines on my papers when I heard the bedroom door open. Living alone, I had never gotten into the habit of locking it.Â
She came into the room, wearing only her shift. It was threadbare, leaving little to the imagination. Her eyes flicked around the room, perplexed at my lack of a bed. The confusion didnât last long and she approached the desk, standing behind the chair.Â
While both of us were about the same height standing, she nearly towered over me.Â
I turned to face her, and she leaned forward, putting her hands on the desk behind me. The bare flesh of her arms barely brushed against my robes. Even through the thick material I could feel their warmth. Breath fogged up the lenses of my mask, obscuring my vision.Â
It was then I realized while I had expected a repayment in the form of a favor, she had chosen flesh. Perhaps she assumed that doing so would end her stay with me sooner and she could flee back to her village, or wherever she decided, after.Â
Slowly, I lifted up my glove and pressed the back of it to her lips as I waited for the fog on my mask to dissipate.Â
Her eyes became lidded as I felt the pressure of her lips against the leather. With an intentionally gradual pace, she brought them further down, where the glove went under my sleeve.Â
She seemed perplexed at the material going so far up, but I could still feel her warm breath rolling down my arm. I was statue still as it flowed to my chest and heart.Â
Blood sang in my veins as desire long buried began to claw its way from the grave.Â
I retracted my hand from her. Her fingers twitched, curling on empty air. Slowly, she stepped away, eyes averting apologetically. Lips moved, tongue flitting nervously as she prepared to speak.Â
Instead, I put my gloves on either side of my mask.Â
Without waiting for a request for assistance, she slipped it off.Â
I expected her to recoil in horror, or to flinch. But she only stared, eyes hungrily taking in the details of my face. While I was certainly far from a beauty, she clearly expected something more grotesque or marred. Her gaze seemed to focus on my hair, the long plumes that caught the light in a strange way, the way it frayed out. Â
I stood up, expecting her to take a step back. Instead, she was resolute, not moving from her spot in front of me.Â
My gloves found her hand. I could feel it shaking. She laced her fingers with mine, breath still tickling my lips.Â
Gingerly, she set the mask down with her free hand. Dexterous fingers worked open my robes, running softly over the pebbled skin. Inhaling sharply, I flinched away reflexively as the shed material fell to the floor, leaving me in only my breeches and boots.Â
While I possessed the same flesh as her on my head and torso, black feathers began to dot and eventually cover my arms, giving way to wings stuffed inside gloves. They too fell to the floor, no longer being held in place by sleeves.
I could see her eyes going lower, wondering what lay beyond the clothing. Ironically, the one part of my outer clothing that resembled a bird masked my human features.Â
Then, she finally hesitated. Blinking, she traced over my shoulders and ran fingers down my bicep, stopping where flesh ended. The slightest edge of her nails made my feathers ruffle. A few formed a black ring around my boots.Â
I could see the worry in her eyes. An unspoken question.Â
What are you?
I made no move to pull her closer. Nor did I push her away. Neither of us spoke, not wanting to frighten the other.Â
When she stepped back, I could feel a pang in my heart. The small space now between us cut through me like an icy blade.Â
She grabbed her shiftâs hem. Pulling it over her head, she let it join my featherâs on the floor. Despite all the heat coming from her touch, nipples were erect, skin covered in gooseflesh. I found myself closing the gap, letting our bodies share the warmth between them. Â
Soft lips pressed against mine, arms encircling my waist. Legs wrapped around, bare flesh of thighs and calves rubbing against breeches and boots. My touch feather light, I followed every curve and crevice of her skin, unable to fully embrace and grasp her like she did to me.Â
As I traveled downward, I could feel her breath catch against my neck, fingers digging into my back. I lacked the dexterity she did, but I could feel the trickling folds between her legs. Since I didnât possess fingers, I moved my human mouth down and parted her thighs.Â
The clothing weâd shed formed a slight cushion as she sat, hands tangled in my hair. I could feel her fingers exploring as my tongue plunged in and out of her. Each quiver and shake brushed against my feathers, the sensation only seeming to add to her enjoyment.Â
Ankles locked between my shoulders, pulling me more into her. I increased my efforts, hooking her legs in the crook of my elbow. The gasps and moans became cries and screams of ecstasy, begging for more.Â
The fingers in my hair formed a fist. My lips pressed to hers, groans and growls escaping me in a carnal language we both knew all too well, my tongue exploring as hers called out for more.Â
When she finally loosened her grip, I shifted. Breeches brushed against her soaking folds, betraying the hardness within. Shaking legs spread wider. In the moonlight, I could see her shimmering wetness. Shallow breaths betrayed her ache. The need to be filled.
With some difficulty, I molted the last bit of my clothing. My boots clomped noisily on the floor. My breeches had barely slipped down my thighs when she managed to get up, her whole body shaking with the effort.
Once more, she leaned over, hands resting on the ground behind me. Straddling me, she lowered herself down.Â
The warm and wet gripped me tightly, and I could see her spread across the girth, before vanishing behind my feathers. She tossed back her head at that, breath catching as she took a moment to recover, before starting again. I met her with each movement, once more devolving into the ancient language.Â
However, she seemed to have had enough of it, and her lips covered mine. Her tongue explored, no doubt tasting herself. This only seemed to invigorate her further, moans and whimpers rumbling through the both of us. Even muffled, the sounds rattled me to my core.Â
I wrapped my wings around her, not wanting a featherâs width of space between us. I wanted this to last. But I was dancing so close to the edge already.Â
My taloned feet traced over her calves. The sharp tips must have lightly scratched her, because she stared at me, finally parting our kiss. Trembling legs gave out then, and she collapsed on top of me, labored breaths telling me she was at the brink herself.Â
Despite the hesitation, she gave me a nod to continue.Â
They gripped her ankles tightly, locking her in place. Taking her under my wings, I let her rest against me as I rolled my hips. Each thrust was punctuated with a sigh or a moan. The slow pace drew out each motion.Â
Soon, I could feel her trying to wriggle down onto me, begging me to fill her faster. A few times I gave in, remaining inside her, only to draw back out again. She would bite her lips, scratching at the floor. The request was loud, despite a word not being spoken.Â
Each breath and sigh further fanned the heat inside me. My motions were rough and out of practice, but she craved it all the same.Â
Finally, I hilted and held her fast, feeling the flame of passion sputter out. She twitched around me, soft sighs telling me she could feel each drop inside her. It spilled out onto my stomach and hips, my grip finally loosening.Â
We stayed entangled, clothes and feathers scattered around us. I managed to get my robes and drape them over her. The shivering eventually ceased, and she laid against my chest, hand resting on my shoulder. Slowly, her eyes closed and I could feel the soft breathing of slumber.Â
The lenses of my mask gleamed in the candlelight, watching over the two of us. Â

jealous/pining cameron is the gift that keeps on giving! how do you think she felt those few days in human error after he got fired? (meta or drabble)
OKAY iâm really struggling with the human error fic that so many of you requested sooo iâm gonna write some meta on it instead in an attempt to work things out for MYSELF (but also you guys lol). hope thatâs ok xxx
SO cameronâs reaction to chaseâs firing in human error is immediately very interesting, because even from the moment it happens it is NOT the same as foremanâs reaction. more accurately: they react similarly, but the emotions underneath are very different. because while theyâre both shocked and confused, foreman seems more concerned by the timing; he has it written off as being a random move. cameron, in contrast, cares a lot more about the reasoning. more than that: she cares about why it was chase specifically. and sheâs kind of mad about it! her and foreman go to houseâs office together to confront him about it, but cameron is the one to start and lead the conversation. the one time foreman pipes up, itâs about himself, and cameron immediately turns on him:
FOREMAN: Did you fire him for me?
HOUSE: Would you stay if I did?
CAMERON, to Foreman: You asked him to fire Chase?
FOREMAN: No!
this is the start and end of foremanâs involvement in the conversation. the next time we see them together is during the angiogram, and cameron is NOTABLY pissed off at foreman: she sits in the corner and refuses to assist. itâs clear that she blames him, and is mad about it. and objectively, the firing is not foremanâs fault; maybe itâs spurred on by foremanâs departure and houseâs sudden appetite for change, but the reasons really have nothing to do with him. they make perfect sense independent of what else is going on. but itâs not like cameron knows that, and foreman is an easy target for her to lash out on. why is she lashing out? why is she so seething mad? wellâŠ
at her core, cameron does not like to be taken by surprise. we see her prepping her cv at the start of the vogler arc; she gets wilson to tell her about houseâs (faked) cancer by saying âif i have to look for a new job, i have a right to knowâ; sheâs thrown by the engagement ring, in her own words, because sheâs worried chase is making an emotional spur-of-the-moment decision in light of kutnerâs death. itâs one of the reasons why she prides herself on being able to read people, and why she prides herself on reading house particularly (which is why the date backfires so badlyâcameron crosses the line of âpredictiveâ to âoutright certainâ and makes the mistake of saying this all out loud, which house obviously hates). chase being fired is a big smack in the face to that. her immediate reaction is REALLY telling:
CAMERON: It makes no sense.
FOREMAN: Since when does House make sense?
CAMERON: He always makes sense.
the fact that cameron canât immediately decipher the reasoning behind the firing is i think one of the things that frustrates her so much. but thatâs not what youâre really here for. i think the OTHER main reason why cameron is so mad and shocked by this is because, drumrollâŠshe was slowly starting to admit her feelings to herself.
iâve said this before: the firing was the perfect storm of factors to force camchase together; without it, or another similar inciting incident, i think cameron wouldâve been happy to keep things under wraps and choosing the safe route of not risking things and letting it slowly smother itself out. but that doesnât mean that the option wasnât there. again, famously: cameronâs a woman who likes to have a back-up plan. when chase was working with her, reminding her he was an available option every tuesday, that was safe; she had the choice of taking him up on it, and was choosing not to. she was in control. chase being firedâŠderails that. there is suddenly a very real chance she might not ever see him againâheâs on a visa, remember! it was all well and good not caring and shrugging him off when he was around, but now it actually is do-or-die. and i think sheâs mad, at herself and at everyone else, for being pushed into that corner and given a timeframe to actually decide what to do. not that cameron isnât decisive, but she likes to do things on her own schedule. chase getting fired? is not in a million years on that schedule.
and weirdly, despite the fact she seems to rebuff him again hereâi think the scene at the restaurant is cameronâs turning point. chase seems a little surprised to see her there, so i think sheâs clearly the one to take initiative and talk to him. but the really interesting part is that cameron tries to wrench back control and act like nothing is going to changeânothing she hasnât already prepared for, anywayâand chase is havingâŠabsolutely none of it:
CAMERON: You know House firing you has nothing to do with you?
CHASE: The why doesnât matter.
CAMERON: Foreman will end up staying, and House will call you and probably yell at you for not showing up.
CHASE: ItâsâŠitâs okay. Heâs right; itâs time for a change. You were right, too. The whole âitâs Tuesday, I like youââŠit was silly. Oh, donât give me that look. Donât feel sorry for me. Getting this job was the best thing that ever happened to me. And losing it? Well, IâŠthink itâs gonna be good, too.
this is cameronâs last ditch attempt to pretend that things can stay as they are, and chase isnât willing to go along with it. heâs ready for the change, and he means it. you donât have to just take his word for it, either; the structure of the episode confirms it. once heâs fired, scenes stop being in his perspective: we donât see him leave after he points out the hotspot on the PET scan; we donât hear his voice when house calls him for the scan result; we donât see what heâs doing at the bar before cameron arrives or what he does after; when cameron shows up at his door, we see her waiting, not him getting up to open the door. the groundwork is laid for chaseâs s4/5 boundaries era in this episode. chase is serious, and cameron realises heâs serious and she needs to face it head on. she doesnât stay for the drink with him because she needs to come to a reasoned decision, and she needs to come to it on her own.
and she does: she decides she wants to be with him. she shows up on his doorstep a few days later. you know the rest.
#asks#house md#allison cameron#robert chase#as an aside (and maybe getting a bit too symbolic here)#i donât think itâs a coincidence that the patient of the week is an incredibly devoted married couple#where they both end up taking big leaps of faith#it is in a roundabout way very representative of whatâs been going on with chase and cameron all season#cameron showing up on his doorstep is the ultimate parallel to the wife waking up

I cannot help but notice that in the wilderness one of the things that the girls are really messed up with is that theyâve made Lottie their baseline for reality, when Lottâs grip is unstable. Not only in that sheâs unsure whatâs real or not, but that her vibe is inconsistent as well. If it was consistently slanted in exactly one direction then itâd be somewhat better, but sheâs like a see-saw, being swayed by them, and then swaying them in turn.
In the adult timeline now theyâre in EXACTLY the same situation. Lottâs back in charge, sheâs setting the rules again, giving guidance, again, and sheâs an unreliable source, again. Sheâs literally taken them back to the wilderness, and they donât even seem to notice.
Thatâs not to say anything bad about Lottie herself, I think that her intentions when it comes to the yellowjackets are solid, but sheâs not great at the follow through.
But what I really want to talk about is anger, and violence, and the way that Lottieâs pseudotherapy does more harm than good.
I just keep thinking about Lisa with the fork. Lottie gives her permission to attack Nat, and she doesnât. She drops the fork, she hugs Nat instead. But the thing is... she mightâve. She couldâve done REAL damage, if sheâd wanted to. And both Nat and Lottie know that, theyâve seen it. They know it better than ANYBODY.
I think itâs really worth explicitly saying that Lisa didnât choose not to hurt Nat in vengeance because Lottie gave her the option. Instead, she did it because she, herself, is not a violent person. She chose to drop the fork because she inherently didnât WANT to. And yes, she might be able to say âI faced my anger, and I chose to not turn it into violenceâ and she might feel that sheâs gained some kind of valuable insight from that. But that doesnât make it therapy. It makes her a lucky coin flip.
Consider: if Lisa were a vengeful, violent person, she wouldnât have needed Lottieâs permission. Sheâd have found a way to act out her anger in a harmful way, regardless.
Now look at Shauna. The originator of this form of ... therapy. Lottie says to her, we NEED you. You have all this pain, all this anger, let it out so that you can function again.
At the time she says that Shaunaâs already thrown two punches and is being physically restrained.
But hereâs the thing: the sheer RAGE inside Shauna is not the same thing as violence. Every single one of the yellowjackets has anger, has been hurting and burning within. And they havenât been unleashing it on each other. Anger and violence are not inherently linked, anger is an emotion, violence is an activity, and thereâs a choice to connect the two. To excuse the violence with the anger.
In ACTUAL therapy weâre taught to disconnect the two.
A huge part of anger management is recognising that itâs one thing to feel an emotion, itâs a whole other thing to unleash it through violence on others. There are so many other, less destructive ways to express that anger. And moreover, the thing is... your brain works by connecting things together, and every time you do you build the pathway tighter. Once you connect anger and violence and the more you reinforce that, youâll find that you turn to violence faster, more frequently, and most importantly it doesnât actually provide the catharsis weâre promised. The frustrating truth is that anger expressed as violence just makes you bathe in the anger, which leads to more violence, which leads to more anger. Itâs a very toxic spiral, that makes you feel completely out of control of yourself, and obviously does tremendous collateral damage.
So Shauna starts by punching Misty, then Lott. Lottie responds by mistakenly seeing this outburst as somehow helpful, and creates a space that respects Shaunas violence. And CRITICALLY...it does not work. She almost kills Lott, then when she leaves the cabin and has a moment alone, sheâs not... ashamed, sheâs not cooler, sheâs not even felt catharsis. Look at her face.
Hereâs a girl whoâs looking for round 2.
When Mistyâs hands are covered in blood she FREAKS OUT. She just completely breaks down, burdened with the guilt she feels. When Lottâs hands are covered in blood she falls to pieces, so afraid of hurting those around her. When Taiâs hands are covered in blood and dirt sheâs panicked, afraid of what she mightâve done, and to whom she mightâve done it. Now Shaunaâs hands are covered in blood and sheâs still burning. The rage isnât gone, nothing is healed, catharsis is absent.
One of the first things we ever even learn about adult!Shauna is that she has this violence inside her. In the shorthand of the show, she has blood on her hands, and sheâs completely fine with it.
And now, after being broken out of her housewife mask by Adam in s1 sheâs unlocked the box again, and we find sheâs the kind of person who gets OFF on violence. Definitely not on hurting those who she actually cares about, she doesnât want to hurt Callie or Jeff or Bruce. But sheâll BARELY restrain herself from shooting a random man whoâs wronged her, because it feels GOOD, she knows sheâll get that hit of adrenaline and endorphins that come with the release of it.
Itâs not actual catharsis, itâs not healthy and itâs definitely not helping her anger. But Lottieâs therapy has functioned in the same way it did for Lisa. Lisa didnât learn how to control her anger, she learned that sheâs not a violent person, she doesnât WANT to be a violent person.
Shaunaâs been offered the same choice, and sheâs learned that she WANTS to be violent, that it feels GOOD to her, and worse, now itâs not just been unlocked, itâs been CONDONED. Donât expect this to make her anything but more aggressive, more angry, more violent in the future.

Hmm. Not sure if approximately 8 or approximately 12 chapters, depending on how the situation is actually resolved.
For now, have more of someone who slept through the last story trying to make sense of things!
Chapter 3
Setting a trap for the ship turned out to be harder than this Friend thought. Dandelion lead it to a room inside herself where she was not present at all. Feed blank. Unusual outside of holding cells. But the person meeting the Friend did not look like an interrogator. Ke lived up to kes name: lanky, frowning, looking like ke hadn't slept in a while.
Perhaps this could be a piece of the puzzle, too.
"Captain Reed of the Dandelion Tenacious, node ship of Trellin," ke said, nodding kes head at me.
"Atmir Ran." This Friend said. "I have had no political affiliation for the last four years."
There it was. The captain blanched, surprised.
"Dandelion has just read me an entire lecture about the Friends not having individual names, and about howâŠ" Ke paused, choosing words, and chose: "âŠhow it would be perfectly normal if a Friend never referred to themselves with a pronoun indicating a sense of self. And that has now been torpedoed within seconds of starting this conversation."
Ke sighed deeply. This was obviously not the first thing to go wrong in kes day. Nor was it in the first thing to go wrong in this Friend's day, for that matter. Just how many of them knew? How many of them knew now, after this Dandelion Tenacious had informed them?
Captain Reed continued: "So. Is Dandelion wrong about you being a Friend? Are we wrong about what being a Friend entails?"
"Was this the initial subject of the conversation, Captain Reed?"
"The initial subject of this conversation was to inform you about the latest developments in this rainstorm of a situation we find ourselves in, and to ensure our maps align." Reed said, briskly. "But now I'm not sure we are starting even vaguely in the same quadrant."
This Friend waited.
So did Captain Reed.
"You are crafting a difficult situation to start explaining from, Captain," it finally said.
Captain Reed pressed kes lips together in a thin line.
"Well, Atmir Ran of no political affiliation, be assured that the difficulty flows downstream, and I am just as drenched as you are. We shall have to start draining somewhere. Am I talking to a Friend or not?"
"Requesting context on relevance?"
"According to Dandelion, she gave you her logs."
"Yes. And they have been reviewed. But they make no sense."
"Fantastic," ke said, teeth gritted. "All right. Let us start from the beginning. My medical officer has just threatened to kill people on an entire sector of Preservation Station, because she thought she had no other recourse to stop a doctor from accidentally killing a patient, and she could not abide by that. If you are a Friend, and the operation would have killed you, then she is standing on something resembling ground, at least. If you are not a Friend, then we are deep in quicksand, and I would like to know this so we can start crawling out, very very slowly. Has this helped?"
"You are in quicksand," this Friend said. "It does not matter if your medical officer was right or wrong. One life for dozens is not a good trade."
"I agree. And the fact that no lives have actually been lost, if only by exceptional luck, is a rope thrown to us. And yet the facts matter."
"Dandelion has said that I am not a prisoner here. If she was speaking the truth, then I would like to leave now."
"You are free to do so," Captain Reed confirmed. "But I would like you to know that BreharWallHan has initiated an extradiction order against the terrorist who had been hounding them. While the refugees who were in your care are, well, refugees, Preservation Station has informed me that they have less recourse on your behalf. They can stall for now, as you are not on board, but they have asked me to relay that it will be more difficult for them if you make yourself known on the station."
"Requesting a moment to consider."
"Please do."
Three involved polities at least. BreharWallHan is the simplest. They don't care about the loss of labor; it is minimal. They do care about making an example of this Friend. Consistent with prior analysis of threat scenarios, Preservation Station is stalling them on principle. But Trellin. An unknown polity, apparently aligned with Preservation. Tenously enough that they resorted to force when the time frame was too short for negotiations; firmly enough that they were working in lockstep against BreharWallHan.
"Would it be correct to say that you are offering asylum?"
"I don't know," Captain Reed said with an indifferent shrug. "Am I offering asylum to someone that is doing their level best to avoid all of my questions?"
This Friend reached for certain corners of its memory. To its relief, it found them purged as per the imminent death protocol. There was only so much it could give away even in the worst of cases.
It dropped the mask.
"Very well, Captain Reed. This Friend apologizes for the deception. Its only explanation is that it normally operates from deeply hostile territory, where secrecy is paramount."
"That had been Dandelion's hypothesis," Captain Reed said, nodding. "And the main reason I did not throw you off the ship the moment you started being evasive about everything. But we needed to be certain."
"This Friend needs to know: how many people in this situation are aware of what the Public Universal Friends are? And how big are the chances that the knowledge will spread?"
"As of right now, the list consists of my senior staff, Preservation leadership, the Preservation senior security officer and the external security consultant that had been accompanying Dandelion, and the two doctors involved from the Preservation side. During the initial negotiations, Dandelion got Preservation leaders to classify information about the Friends as need-to-know, but I am not privy to the details of what 'need-to-know' entails on Preservation."
Worse than it should have been, unreasonably better than it could have been.

"Your medical officer valued one person's life over an entire sector's. The medical ethics here are already questionable, but if she knows what a Friend is, it becomes unconscionable. This Friend cannot make sense of it. Perhaps you can, Captain Reed."
Captain Reed mulled it over for a moment, then admitted: "I do have the facts, but I do not have the understanding. So, fucked up as this entire situation is, I will give her a chance to explain. If she does not within the next cycle, I will tell you what I can."
"This Friend thanks you."
"Thank me when the storm is over."

Pitchfork, August 29, 2011
After getting her start in upstate New York church choirs, this sultry, Elvis-worshipping 24-year-old singer is now writing gleeful 1950s-style pop songs about murder and brooding in cut-and-paste YouTube come-ons.
Lana Del Rey is old-school Hollywood glamor meets splice-friendly YouTube culture with a fair share of coquettish attitude and smoke-parlor Stevie Nicks vocals thrown in. She became a blog concern this spring after her visual for creaking, strung-out Best New Track âVideo Gamesâ caught eyes and ears. The clip, created by Del Rey herself, shows its star pouting into her webcam as found footage of skateboarders, drunk starlets, and American flags flicker by. The juxtaposition of its seemingly-put-together singer and its DIY aesthetic proved intriguing.
Lana Del Rey is also Lizzy Grant, a 24 year old who grew up singing in several different school choirs in Lake Placid, New York, about five hours north of the city. She released an album on iTunes in January 2010 produced by vet David Kahne, known for his work with Paul McCartney, the Strokes, and Regina Spektor, among many others. The LP, dubbed Lana Del Rey, has since been deleted. âI would like people focused on my new music for now,â wrote Del Rey in an emailâunderstandable since that recordâs dusty Americana only hints at the promise of âVideo Games.â And while sheâs previously admitted that âmanagers and lawyersâ helped her choose the âLana Del Reyâ moniker, sheâs not a character or a studio creation. On the topic of Lizzy vs. Lana, she wrote, âThereâs not a real me and another me. Same person, just a different name.â
âVideo Gamesâ and its B-side âBlue Jeansâ will be released as a single October 9 digitally and a day later on limited edition 7" via Stranger. Meanwhile, Del Rey is currently working on another full-length, which is due out early next year. We recently emailed her a few questions and she answered some of them, writing about her musical beginnings, the perfection of Elvis, and why âsleeping with the boss doesnât get you anywhere at all these days.â
How did you meet the pretty-well-known producer of your first album, David Kahne?
When I was 18 I was signed to an indie label and we sent my demos to five producers. David called us 10 minutes later and asked if we could start working the next day. We spent every day for five months on the record with Coney Island and hope as the touchstones for the sound.
What did you learn about music and the industry from releasing that album?
I learned that thereâs no reason why people decide they like music when they do. Even if youâre the best singer in the world, thereâs a good chance no one will ever hear you. You make a decision to keep singing or to stop. Iâve been singing in Brooklyn since I was 17 and no one in the industry cared at all. I havenât changed a thing since then and yet things seem to be turning around for me. Perhaps the angels decided to shine on me for a little while.
Have people offered you opportunities in the music industry if you were willing to change your sound or look?
No. People have offered me opportunities in exchange for sleeping with them. But itâs not 1952 anymore. Sleeping with the boss doesnât get you anywhere at all these days. Nobody cared about wanting to change the way I looked or sounded because no one was interested in the music.
Youâve said that managers and lawyers helped you come up with the name Lana Del Rey, which suggests that you and your music may be crafted by others. Obviously, this isnât newâyou could argue that Elvis was molded by his producers and managersâbut how important is it for you to be taken seriously as an artist as opposed to a music-industry creation? Do you think those two things are even in opposition, necessarily?
I write my songs and I make my videos. Elvis had good management and thatâs why he looks well-crafted but actuallyâother than his custom-made jump suitsâhe was always a gentleman, always a star, had a face like a god, and a voice like a dark angel. So he wasnât really contrivedâhe was just dead cool. Thatâs why his legacy lives on, because he was actually perfect.
Your dad is a successful domain investor, but I read that you were living in a trailer park a few years ago. Do you fetishize that trailer park lifestyle?
My dad is an entrepreneur and an innovator. Being an entrepreneur doesnât make you a rich tycoon and being an innovator doesnât mean that youâre successful. It just means that youâre interesting. No one cares that I lived in a parkâDad loves trailers and is getting one in the Everglades. My first record label gave me a small check and I moved into a park near Manhattan. Itâs not something I cared to even share but people keep asking me about it. My songs are cinematic so they seem to reference a glamorous era or fetishize certain lifestyles, but thatâs not my aim. Iâm not trying to create an image or a persona. Iâm just singing because thatâs what I know how to do.
You started singing in a church choirâdo you think your church would approve of some of the lyrics on âKinda Outta Luckâ like the one about hitting dudes in the back of the head with a gun?
God has saved me a million times so I think he mustâve enjoyed that song.

missing gerri hours SO⊠do u have hcs you want to share đ€Č
hi hello kat thank you for enabling me during these trying times <3 itâs been a while since iâve last thrown some gerri hcs together so some of these might be familiar to some people hdksfjs. unsurprisingly this got long so... under the read more <3
she did choose to marry baird but if she truly had had a choice, she probably wouldnât have married anyone at that point of her life. marrying baird meant influence and stability which in turn helped her career, and being an unmarried woman in the 80s in an environment like waystar wouldnât have been a good look.
she doesnât mind being a mother though itâs also another thing she wouldnât probably have chosen for herself. she acknowledges that she could have been more present in her daughtersâ lives during their childhood, but she also refuses to feel too bad about it. in her opinion she has always been there when it mattered.
she also didnât mind baird and they became pretty comfortable with each other during their marriage. gerri got bairdâs job after he died mostly because she already knew most of the secrets and because she was genuinely good at her job. but also because waystar desperately needed more women at the top. while she would have liked to have gotten the job solely due to her competence, sheâs not gonna complain.
she genuinely has never wanted to be at the top. she much prefers orchestrating everything from the sidelines. that doesnât mean she has never thought about what sheâd do if she was the one in charge. that is why she doesnât really like being the interim ceo â in paper she might be at the top, but in reality sheâs just being loganâs puppet.
she has always kept her daughters away from waystar as much as possible. she knows why the waystar office walls are made from glass these days. she and baird have attended copious roy family events but their daughters have rarely made an appearance.
has a very delightful frenemies-sort of a relationship with caroline. in a way where she is invited to carolineâs wedding and they have one extremely fake conversation filled with pleasantries but after that they both roll their eyes.
she actually likes marcia.
has spent the past 30-ish years not really liking the roy kids. she hasnât really let that affect the way she actually works with them: even if she thinks that kendall is pathetic and that roman is stupid, if she has to, she helps them.
obviously she doesnât think that roman is that stupid anymore.
though if the situation was different she probably would think that shiv is the most competent one out of them.
if roman sends her another dick pic in his life sheâll probably have him murdered. no one will ever find his body <3
sheâs bisexual because that makes me happy and i get to decide these things
her team-up with roman is probably the most daring thing she has done in years. she doesnât exactly regret it but wishes sheâd done some things differently.
mostly listens to older music but occasionally also some hit songs from the early 2000s her daughters used to listen to
unwinds by playing games on her phone. sheâs unbeatable in candy crush <3 also started playing word games with roman and also beats him in that all the time.
the biggest workaholic youâll ever see. probably spends more time at the offices than at home.
grudgingly takes blood pressure meds every morning. she doesnât mind getting older and she doesnât have many regrets, but she does find it annoying to see the ways her body is starting to age. what do you mean you donât recover from jetlag in a day or that you donât survive on 4 hours of sleep anymore? bullshit, thinks gerri.
and finally, if there was a competition about whoâs the baddest and biggest milf out there, sheâd win it every single time <3
iâve now decided that there is such a competition. gerri kellman, winner of waystarâs milf of the year award since 2004.
#i love u for giving me this opportunity to talk about gerri. my favorite thing to do <3333333#gerri kellman#answered

one detail i love regarding Mobius is that Klein hates radish
Klein hates radish, so Mobius gives her own radish to Klein and tells Klein to eat it all because itâs good for her health (Klein being an ELF, sheâs absolutely kidding, which Klein is fully aware of)
and when Klein chokes it down, Mobius laughs
Itâs unclear how many time thatâs happened, because Kleinâs english formulation implies a routine, but I didnât check the CN. Meiâs guess is that Mobius also hates radish and uses it as an excuse to get rid of hers, but
Mobius is not forcing Klein to eat it, oh no.
She gave Klein absolute freedom and she holds herself to it.
Klein eats it so Mobius wonât be disappointed. She knows Mobiusâs claim that it gives her nutrients she needs is a prank, but she eats it anyway, even if she really hates the taste (probably ends up making funny faces, too), and Mobius laughs
and I donât think Mobius is mocking her at all
picture this. Youâre eating lunch with a friend, or a sibling, maybe a cousin, someone youâre close to whoâs maybe a bit younger than you. Neither of you likes⊠letâs say, radish.
You hear your friend say they hate it, so you snicker and give yours to them, âgo on, eat it, itâs good for your health~â
Obviously, itâs a joke, your friend/sibling can give you a taste of your own medicine anytime
But whatâd you do if they looked at you in the eye and opened their mouth real wide and shoved the detested food down their throat?
They make a disgusted face but they start to chew. You canât hold it back. You laugh. Thatâs hilarious. Youâre not mocking them. You arenât looking down on them and you donât think theyâre stupidâ you know they know youâre full of shit on that one.
But you share a bond and they ate both of your vegetables and it surprised you. You know they did it only because itâs you and it made you feel warmâ
And so you laughed. Laughter is an expression of joy.
Maybe it becomes a private joke, or itâs a one time thing, it doesnât matter. It was a petty little prank but it made Mobius happy, it made her laugh in the middle of the apocalypse, so what does choking down a yucky radish matter?
Klein just loves Mobius. And Mobius loves Klein, too.
Because thereâs more to this than character dynamics analysis!
âEat your vegetables because theyâre good for youâ is something parents tell their children, not just because you need the nutrients to grow, but also because youâve got to internalize this lessonâ sometimes you have to do stuff you donât like because itâs necessary.
Mobius is Kleinâs parent, in a way, and while she isnât a standard one by any means, she still takes on a teacher/parenting role in her own way. She claims people are thrown to the wolves as soon as theyâre born, but itâs not really what she enforces.
Mobius grants freedom to her creations, but she doesnât refuse aidâ despite claiming she wants to see how Gray Serpent will evolve without interfering, he comes back to her lab several times, and someone had to give him those umbrellas. She describes his flesh as corrupted when she picked him up from the destruction poolâ and heâs majorly cybernetic in present dayâ you bet she gave him at least a minimum of help until he was capable of leaving the lab on his own. Even the sim admits sheâs proud to hear he found himself in the endâŠ
And most importantly, she tells him he is free, that his freedom is absolute, which he takes very seriously. (Seriously enough for him to dedicate significant energy and resources into figuring out what exactly that means, at least)
Mobius also told Klein this, and she repeats it when Klein asks to help in her experimentsâ âyou are free and you donât have to do anything the other Klein didâ
What Mobius does as a parent to the unusual lives she creates is give them values. âYou are free to choose your own life and mustnât feel held back by expectations of othersâ is a value, and Iâd wager itâs even something Mobius holds close to her heart, given that the society she lives in constantly fights her, whether itâs her experiments or people calling her names behind ber back. Infinite freedom is an ideal and the way she sees it, being free from others is how sheâs happiest.
This freedom is a wish for the happiness of her âchildrenâ, who are not born within standard society and therefore have a chance not to be constrained by it.
While we have little information on what she told Gray Serpent past the freedom bit, the convo where Klein tells Mei about the radish incident holds another value: Mobius taught Klein that âto get through the hard times, you have to do what you have toâ. Klein says she was very impressed by this, even though it later turned out the budget wasnât that dire, Mobius mostly just wanted to eat some cup noodles.
It was a whim, but Mobius still made a point to turn it into a lesson, not just to Klein, but to Fuxi and Nuwa as well (itâs referenced in a much more somber recollection), and itâs another value that she holds close to her heart. Mobius will stop at nothing to get through hard times, whether theyâre the apocalypse, death itself, or radish.
So while, yes! âEat your vegetablesâ was a joke, itâs also a value with an underlying meaning that Mobius actually takes seriously. You have to do whatâs necessary. And thereâs one more layer to this (last one I promise), from the Mobius Lab web eventâŠ
Klein, the assistant, used to nag Mobius to eat properly.
#mobius#hi3#long post#i wonder if the laughter Klein heard#was mixed with some grief as well#âeat properly!â is something Mobius is shown to have actually listened to Klein about after her death#she stares at her cup noodles and says the cafeteria must still be open#even if nobody wants to see her thereâŠ#the fact that she had radish in her plate at all implies she was following Kleinâs plea to take care of what she eats#itâs poetic isnât it?#honkai impact#honkai impact 3rd

Life of Death
Youâre gonna need tissues for this one folks! A huge thank you to @addictedtodinosaurs for allowing me to write this wonderful headcannon! Hope you guys enjoy!
Warning: Angst. Whole lot of angstÂ
It hasnât even been a day since Alcinaâs world collapsed. Ethan Winters managed to flee Castle Dimitrescu with his life and topple the hierarchy Mother Miranda worked so hard to achieve. Everyone is gone; Angie, Moreau's house, Mother Miranda, even her baby brother Karl. They never stood a chance after the fall of the great Mother Miranda. Without her protection, they were left helpless. Of course, Ethan only saw them all as monsters; filthy bloodthirsty creatures that needed to be slain. Thatâs all anyone ever saw them as. Theyâre different so that must mean theyâre wrong. Theyâre abnormally different from anything Iâd ever seen so that automatically means theyâre evil.
But theyâre still a family. Lucky for Alcina, she never let herself depend on anyone other than herself. Well, except for her daughters.
She was wandering around the ruins of the castle in search of them. They were nowhere to be found since Ethan escaped. It was a grueling task but obviously, one that needed to be done. They need their motherâs tender love and care to nurse them back to health.
Cassandra was the first to be found. Naturally, she was found within the comfort of her basement. Where else would that silly girl be hiding? Just like Daniela, her bleeding seemed to have majorly stopped on its own. So all that was left for Alcina to do was bathe her and bandage her wounds. Alcina carried her upstairs to her bedroom slowly and carefully to not make her feel any sicker to her stomach. From there she bathed her and wrapped whatever wounds she had in delicate cloth before putting her to rest in her bed. Alcina tousled her wet hair before leaving in search of the rest of her brood.
Daniela was the easiest to find. She was left lying face down in the parlor soaked in a pool of her own blood. Her body was riddled with bullet holes to the point where her abdomen resembled Swiss Cheese. Alcina was quick to scoop her up and bring her upstairs to tend to her wounds. Until she got Daniela in the bath she used the ends of her dress to put pressure on her abdomen. Just like Cassandra, her bleeding seemed to have majorly stopped on its own. So all that was left for Alcina to do was bathe her and bandage her wounds.
Picking each individual bullet out of her body was an uphill battle, but Alcina was the eventual victor. Even better, she managed to not disturb her youngestâs slumber as she patched her up. Daniela was now free to rest as much as she needed in the sanctuary of her motherâs bed.
âWhat a mess weâre left with, hm? Donât you worry about a thing my little Tasmanian Devil, Motherâs here now. Iâll protect you.â
The girls remained motionless as Alcina tucked Daniela in next to her sister.
Alcina watched as her little bundles of joy rested comfortably under the warm blankets and plush pillows. They look so sweet and at peace. It was rare for the matriarch to see them like this, but it always brought a smile to her face.
âYou just rest now, my lovelies. Iâm going to go find your sister so she can rest easy as well.â Alcina bends down and kisses each daughter on the forehead. âIâll be right back.â
It took a few hours of searching to find her eldest daughter. Doing countless laps around the castle finally brought Alcina to explore the labyrinth of hidden passageways. There were a few times when said passageways brought her right back up to her bedroom. She wasnât complaining too much though. Every time it happened she simply checked on her girls and reminded them how much she loves them.
Bela was by far the hardest to find. The sounds of scurrying behind a row of bookcases alerted Alcina to her presence. Following a single passageway eventually led Alcina to find the blonde buried from the chest down in rubble. The tunnel had collapsed from then on.
Alcina made quick work of removing the rock and rubble from her daughter's body. Rats fled back into their holes as she did so. The eldest Dimitrescu never moved even an inch. It took a while, but Alcina did manage to get her out in one piece. She whispered promises of a warm bath and offered to deep clean the dirt and dust out of her hair.
Bela couldnât respond but Alcina knew she heard her. She could still sense her. She could sense all of them. Theyâre just weak, thatâs all. They need as much rest as they can get.
Itâs late evening by the time all three girls are bathed and tucked into bed. They were dressed in clean clothes and had their bandages changed again before Alcina crawled carefully into bed with them. She made sure to be extra careful when nudging them out of the way so she was in the middle; Bela on one side and Cassandra and Daniela on the other. Her arms wrapped around them all snugly.
It reminds Alcina of all the times the girls would burst into her room when they were little during a thunderstorm. All four of them would cuddle up just like this under the covers and either sing to them or read them a story.
âTomorrow is a new day, my loves. We will start anew and weâll be stronger than ever. I hope you sleep peacefully.â
The next morning comes slowly for Alcina. Itâs quiet for once as the girls arenât awake to cause mischief. Aching in her back and arms keeps her from stretching out. She smiled when she feels the girls are still snuggled up close to her.
âGood morning my darlings,â she says with a yawn. âHow are we feeling today?â
Alcina kisses each daughter on the cheek and chooses not to notice how much more pale they were this morning. And certainly doesnât recognize how stiff they were. She simply chalks it up to sleeping uncomfortably. After all, even she woke up with an aching back. Her arms wrapped around them must have really bothered them.
âItâs alright, girls. Take all the time you need to recover. Youâve been through quite the ordeal and need as much rest as you can get. I understand that. Mommy will be waiting for you right here to wake up. Iâll be the first thing you see when you open your bleary little eyes.â
The family lounged for the better half of the morning. Alcina takes her time stroking the hair of each of her girlsâ hair and whispers words of comfort to them. âYouâre so brave, my loves. And so strong; stronger than Mommy could ever hope to be.â
She notices a rather putrid smell coming from Daniela. One not caused by uncleanliness or a rotten meal, but something else entirely. Her immediate response is to change her bandages again, but canât help but notice how pale Daniela had become overnight. Her lips were turning a shade of blue and the rest of her skin looked sickly. So did Cassandra and Daniela. Perhaps this is worse than simply recovering from injuries? Maybe....maybe they really were-
Alcina shook her head. Theyâll wake up. Of course, theyâll wake up! They just need to rest extra long before they can really start to recover. So what if they get worse before they get better? At the end of the day, all that matters is that they do wake up. Then itâs smooth sailing from there.
The silence is suffocating. She feels the chill in her blood, coldness bringing the synapses of her brain to a standstill. Part of it is a pain, but one Alcina can endure. One she has to endure; for the sake of her daughters.
While she waited, Alcina called for a maid, the only one left, to fetch some documents from her private study that needed her attention.
They didnât actually need her attention, of course. With the demise of Mother Miranda, the document's importance was nullified. But Alcina Dimitrescu is not the type of person to just sit around and do nothing. Especially when there are so many important things to do.
As soon as the maid steps into the room she understands whatâs happening. She went through something strikingly similar when she had her miscarriage some years ago. Reality is a cruel plane of existence. Especially when you lose someone you loved suffering it with. Itâs plain to see that her mistress is grieving her losses and she doesnât have the heart to break whatever fantasies Lady Dimitrescu has built-in her head.
Instead, she chooses to play along. Delusional or not this was still Lady Dimitrescu, the woman will kill her if she tells her anything other than what she wants to hear. She gives a kind smile and curtsy to her Mistress and simply dies as sheâs asked.
âShall I fetch you some wine, My Lady?â
Alcina thought about it for a moment. It has been over 24 hours since she last fed and she was certainly craving sustenance. But ultimately decides against it in favor of her daughters.
âNo. Keep what we have left safe for when my daughters wake. Theyâll need their strength more than Iâll need mine.â
The maid waits a minute before trying again. She looks over at the girls still laying in bed. Itâs obvious they are no longer there. She could smell the evidence of that from across the room.
âVery well, Lady Dimitrescu. I could send up a platter of-â
âEnough,â Alcina shouts but quickly catches herself from continuing. The girls donât need to be disturbed by such a trivial matter. âGo make yourself useful and clean my daughtersâ rooms. Theyâll want them spotless when they wake up.â
The maid simply bows her head. âOf course, my Lady. Please forgive me.â
The next two weeks went on like this before the maid had enough. She wanted to help her mistress, she truly did, but there was nothing left for her here anymore. The last scraps of human food were officially gone and there was no reason to trek down to the village and come all the way back when she could just as easily take up residence down there. It was a gut-wrenching decision but it had to be done. She tried her best for Lady Dimitrescu and thatâs all that mattered.
She slipped away in the dead of night. Normally the Lady would have any escapees hunted down and dragged back up to the castle only to be thrown in the basement. But there was no one to do that anymore. Heisenberg and his pack of lycans had perished long ago, even before the Ladyâs daughters, and the Lady was too drained of emotions to care. Too weak to chase after her.
Alcinaâs daughters are her everything. Every day she lived for them. She lived because of them.
Alcina took great pride in her tall stature. She is the image of beauty and elegance. The only real flaw in her design is its role in hunting down prey. Youâd have to be blind or stupid to not see her coming after you. Even with her much larger strides, she wouldnât be able to keep up. And Alcina Dimitrescu does not run. Prey is not worth running for.
So she depends on her daughters to hunt for her. Theyâre much more suited for the job; so young, and clever, and agile. They are her cubs and her, their lioness, too old to keep up with the hunting party.
Alcina looks at her girls and sees them as they truly are; dead. Lifeless corpses. Their bodies are decaying and cold. She has been changing the bed sheets every morning to keep away the maggots but failed to stop all of them. The smell of death is noxious even with all the windows open because Bela said she wanted to feel the crisp winter breeze.
âMy girls,â Alcina sobs. âWhat have I done to you?â
She collapses at their bedside and finally allows herself to break down.
But looking up at them she still feels them. She can still feel their arms wrap around her shoulders as she cries. The smell of paint is still on Cassandraâs cloak and Daniela was sitting on the floor right next to her. The short ends of red hair tickled Alcinaâs cheek. If they were truly gone, how is it she can still feel Bela kiss the top of her head and wrap her arms around her neck in an embrace?
âI never should have done this. How can I be so selfish? I never should have turned you to suffer as I have.â A new wave of tears blurred her vision. âWhat kind of mother am I?â
She knows she doesnât have long now. How can she bring herself to care? Everyone she ever cared about was already gone. Whatâs the point of trying to survive without her dearest family, especially when sheâs so close to being reunited. Alcina wiggles her way back under the covers and pulls her daughters close once more. Sheâs crying in earnest now, happy that her pain is almost over. Even now she can see her daughters playing together, maybe even with Uncle Karl somewhere in the far off distance.
A smile spreads to Alcinaâs lips as she closes her eyes and simply waits for her turn to join in on the fun.

Through a Different Lens
A/N: Well, well, well. Lookie what we have here. New content wowza. Iâd say Iâm surprised itâs been a while, but I simply am not. Luckily another fic swap has arrived to get my creative juices flowing once again. The gods have gifted me with another perfect opportunity to write sub spence because I was given @writing-in-april as my person yet again. Hooray! Anyways I hope you enjoy and thanks all you cool cats and kittens for the support (we almost to 1000 yeet skrrt). Also, it just happens to be my birthday today so as a gift to myself I thought about subby Spencer for a while.
Pairing: SPENCER x READER
Category: SMUT and canât forget that fluff
Word Count: 3.2k
ENJOY:)
~~~
It all started completely by accident.
There was no possible way that she wouldâve been able to predict just how much they would affect the poor kid.Â
She could remember, clear as day, the first time she was forced to wear her glasses to the bureau due to her ongoing frustrations with the torture devices that were also referred to as contacts. There were only so many headaches and eye-waterings that she could take before the insecurity of wearing her frames to work shriveled below the point of caring anymore.Â
But none of those previous insecurities held a flame to the amount of confusion she felt when she entered the bullpen and waltzed over to Spencerâs desk to say good morning with a shy smile adorning her face. Y/n hadnât even been able to get a complete sentence out before the young doctor had turned to her and froze, his mouth hanging open like a fish, his eyes widening to the size of dinner plates, the harsh red blush she had seen before, just maybe not to this extent, engulfing his boyish features.Â
Before she could even attempt to ask him what she had done to warrant such a response, he was spouting out a meager, âH-hey Y/nâ whilst simultaneously scurrying off in the direction of the nearest bathroom.
Completely and utterly perplexed over what had happened, she had shrugged it off and made her way back to her desk, silently mulling over the interaction periodically throughout the rest of the day.Â
It was a couple of the same type of interactions later that Y/n began to take notice of what was actually happening with the boy genius. The stiff and unnatural posture. The stuttering, granted that wasnât something new, just much more frequent and severe. The audible heartbeat always accompanied by rosy cheeks and goosebumps.Â
Spencer Reid was fucking turned on by the glasses.
And he didnât even try to hide it. Or maybe he did and was just really, really bad at doing so.
Either way, Y/n quickly discovered just how much fun it was getting these reactions to pour out of the kid...so of course she kept wearing the glasses even after she was able to wear contacts again. He didnât need to know that.Â
It was so fucking easy too.Â
She would just be sitting at her desk, occupied by some particularly troubling pages of a case file that makes her have to readjust her frames out of stress, when sheâd hear a high pitched squeak across the bullpen, followed by the pattering of frantic footsteps she had familiarized herself with in former few weeks.Â
While she felt some kind of guilt for putting him through this, it was nowhere near enough to overtake the genuine excitement and gratification that came with knowing she could have such an effect on the adorable doctor.
Of course she found him attractive...how could she not with his perfectly sculpted cheekbones and nerdy slicked back hair. Ultimately Y/n could understand his apparent infatuation with her wearing glasses as she had caught herself, on more than a couple occasions, openly ogling his own specs.Â
Maybe they were both weirdos...the whole situation was almost as strange as the Converse kink that she secretly harbored for years. Although her intuition was quick to suggest that, just maybe, both of her unique infatuations stemmed from the same noodle-shaped source.
Perhaps her favorite reaction of his, though, came about during the little office birthday party that the entire team had thrown for him.
He looked so adorable in the gigantic birthday cake hat they had bestowed upon him, Y/n could hardly contain her giggles at the giddy smile adorning his face. She watched on in amusement as Spencer tried desperately to get the candles on his cake to extinguish, to no avail, at least until someone felt bad watching his struggles and decided to give him a hand.
âTheyâre trick candles Spence, theyâre gonna come back on every time.â, JJ chuckled, subtly smirking at Morgan who was also enjoying Spencerâs ongoing struggles.Â
A couple âhappy birthdaysâ later and the rest of the team slowly began to disperse, leaving just Y/n and him alone in their own little space. He mustâve noticed this too because the blush that had already been present throughout the celebration beforehand seemed to deepen even further as he visibly swallowed down his nerves.
Slowly stalking towards the rouge kissed boy, she dragged a couple of her fingers across the surface of the desk, noting the way his eyes briefly flicked down to follow the movement before hesitantly returning his gaze to match her own.Â
She also noted the way his knuckles were basically turning white from the amount of pressure he was using to grab the sides of the chair.
âYou have a good birthday, Spence?â, Y/n drawled with a teasing smile, now standing directly before the trembling young man.
Seeming to snap out of whatever sort of trance he had been in, he hastily cleared out his throat before responding with a bit of trepidation. âHmm...yeah-yes uh yes it was v-very good, than-thank you.â
She couldnât even attempt to conceal the smirk that had made its way to her lips listening to the genius stutter through his words. Such a nervous, nervous boy. So adorable. So fucking hot.Â
âWell that makes me happy. Iâm glad you enjoyed yourself pretty boy.â, she paused her thoughts soaking in the little hitches in his breath surely from how close she was standing near him and the added nickname. Deciding to play a little bit dirty, she leaned over directly into his line of sight to reach for the cake set before him.
 âNow how about I take this away and cut it up for all of us to eat? Hmmm?â
His eyes darted immediately to the cleavage that was so graciously presented to him as she bent over to pick up the dessert, a sharp little gasp escaping his pretty, pink lips as his pupils dilated carelessly.Â
Y/n inwardly smirked at his reaction and began walking towards the kitchenette, but only made it about three or four steps before being interrupted.Â
âDid you know that in some instances birthday candles are safe for wax play?â, he exclaimed before seemingly realizing what had just escaped his lips, his hands flying up to cover his traitorous mouth.Â
Bewildered, in the best of ways, by what had just been said, she slowly swiveled back around, facing him once again, before placing the cake on the desk beside her.Â
âWhat was that Spencer?â, she grinned at the petrified man who hadnât made a single noise since his unexpected declaration. The poor thing looked like a caged in animal with nowhere to escape. Perfect.
âN-nothing! I m-mean obviously it was um s-something, but j-just uh just forget what I s-said.â, he quickly explained while frantically shaking his hands as if he was hoping he could simply wipe your memory of the last minute or two away permanently.
âNo, no please go on.â, she teased. âNow Iâm intrigued. What did you mean by âin some instancesâ Spence?â
She wasnât expecting the look of confusion, however brief it was, that peeked its way through the overwhelming embarrassment that had been showcased on his face, as if he truly couldnât fathom that someone was actually asking him to go into more detail about a topic.Â
Still didnât change the fact that he was completely mortified.
Clearing his throat, he hesitantly lifted his gaze back to Y/nâs, seemingly debating with himself over whether he could articulate the words to come out or not.Â
âUm...well..usually many p-people who choose to e-engage in such act-activities will use specific types of c-candles that are uh more designed especially for pl-play.â, he paused and she drank up the way his Adam's apple bobbed along his throat. âUh⊠basically depending on the t-type of candle that one u-uses, the amount of pain or um d-discomfort differs. B-birthday candles tend to b-be on the more painful side so only the couples who are in-into that kind of thing would ever really utilize t-them.â, he finished abruptly, his leg bouncing rapidly in her line of vision.
She still couldnât really believe she had actually gotten him to say anything at all, nevermind an in depth analysis on wax play. In a weird way she was proud of him. Really proud. Sometime amidst her thoughts, sheâd found herself standing directly behind his sitting figure, her hands resting on either side of him against the table, the goosebumps visible on his skin from the implications of the position they were currently in.
âThatâs really intriguing Spencer. Iâd love to find out someday just why it is you know so much about the subject, but I donât want to make you go into cardiac rest anytime soon.â, she remarked, giggling at the shy smile that made its way to his mouth.
She didnât even register reaching out to lightly touch his lips until she heard his sharp intake of breath. Until he turned his head so they were mere centimeters apart. Until she watched his puppy eyes dart between her lips and your frame covered gaze. Until the space between them seemed to be lessening with every sec-
âHey pretty boy! Whereâs my cake?â
Y/n grudgingly pulled back at the interruption, watching in amusement as Spencerâs body instinctively leaned forward as if his lips hadnât gotten the memo and were still searching for hers. âItâs coming right up you lazy ass!â she yelled back with a grin on her face.
She looked back to the boy sitting before her and was almost mesmerized by the dazed look present on his face, the blush slowly retreating as he came back to his surroundings. She could tell there were words that he wanted to say, but they just didnât seem to be forming fast enough to actually come out. Deciding to put their little moment on hold before he passed out, she walked back over to the neglected dessert and started heading towards the break room again.
âIâll make sure to save you the biggest piece, Spence.â,she threw over her shoulder, chuckling at the bewildered look still that was still present on his face.
~~~
The day was a big success in her opinion.Â
Spencer looked even more like a child than usual with the big shit eating grin that remained throughout the celebration and the bulky hat that he refused to take off. She could never understand how someone could have such an affinity for sugar as she watched him devour the huge slice of cake she had carved up for him.
But hours later, it was just her and Spencer left in the building.Â
And she was not about to let that go to waste.
Y/n could see him from where she stood at the entrance to the kitchenette. She could see the way he slouched over his desk with his legs curled underneath him, criss cross applesauce, as he scribbled down whatever case file he was working on. She admired his determined work ethic, thatâs for sure.
But now was simply not the time to work.
Spencer immediately froze as soon as her body situated itself to be leaning against his desk, painfully aware of her gaze on his tense form.Â
âH-hey Y/n.â, he nervously murmured, the stutter once again making her giddy.
âHey yourself doc. Wanna tell me why it is youâre still here working at such a late hour? Doesnât the elusive Spencer Reid have better things to be entertaining himself with?â, she drawled, her piercing gaze making the poor kid squirm before her eyes.
âOh um no...n-not really. I actually donât mind working late. Itâs k-kind of therapeutic in a way. But um...Iâm happy t-that youâre here w-with me.â, he whispered the last part as if he was scared you wouldnât appreciate his gratitude.
But she appreciated it more than he knew.
Noticing the little pencil holder situated amongst the file stacks on his desk, an idea popped into her mind that she just couldnât shake, prompting her to pick it up and begin fiddling with it.
âOh is that so pretty boy? Does my presence satisfy you?â Before he could even attempt an answer she âaccidentlyâ dropped the holder on the ground, the array of pens and pencils dispersing among the floor. âOops my bad.â
Spencer immediately scrambled out of his seat and onto the floor to start collecting the colorful writing utensils, the perfect distraction needed for Y/n to situate herself on his desk with her legs spread open directly in front of his face.Â
âD-donât worry abou-â, his sentence cut off as he looked up and was met with the tantalizing sight of her white lace panties already damp with her excitement. She swore he could die happy with the way his eyes widened and cheeks flushed. She couldnât help but chuckle lightly.
âSee something you like baby?â Unable to even form words, the young doctor slowly nodded his head, eyes still locked on the obvious wet spot between her open legs.
âC-can I..can I umâŠâ
âUse your words baby boy. Can you what?â, she spoke clearly, grasping his chin so heâd look her in the eyes.
âC-can I taste you?â She couldn't get over the desperate way he spoke as if heâd die of thirst if he didnât get a drink from her.
âOf course you can sweet b-â Not even letting the words leave her mouth, his hands were eagerly pulling her panties down and off her legs, his lips instantly connecting with the heated flesh at the apex of her thighs. She swore his tongue and lips were enchanted with the way he was able to effortlessly maneuver his way around, easily picking up on what she loved.Â
âOh Spencer youâre such a good boy.â she couldnât resist threading her fingers through his silky hair and tugging slightly, an action she assumed he enjoyed based on the muffled whine she heard from between her thighs.Â
It hadnât even been more than a few minutes before she found herself already on the verge of letting go. No guy had ever been able to make her feel this good and just electric until now. He was quickly ruining her for anyone else in the future. She did not mind in the slightest.
âBaby I really wanna feel you inside me. Is that something you want sweetheart?â
He reluctantly pulled back after a few more kitten licks to her clit, wide eyes finding hers and whimpering out a broken âyesâ. More than happy with his response she gently pulled him up by his hair and started undoing his belt, his oversized pants easily falling down without the extra support. Just another thing about him that she had come to adore. She was very pleased by the obvious bulge that protruded through his baby blue checkered boxers.Â
Before she pulled those down too, though, she very gently reached up and cupped his cheeks, guiding his plump lips to her own, basking in the delighted whimpers that escaped his mouth at the soft but passionate contact. She released his lips with a slight nip and proceeded with his clothing removal, coaxing him to sit down in the swirly chair he had been previously residing in, before straddling his lap.Â
âYou ready sweet boy?â, she asked leaning forward to kiss his rouge forehead and cheeks.
âMhmm Iâm r-ready.â
Taking that as the go ahead, she cautiously positioned herself over his throbbing erection before slowly lowering herself inch by inch until he was completely enveloped by her tight, warm walls.Â
âOh-ohh my.â, he whimpered at the overwhelming feeling of being connected so intimately. Gently, she started to move a bit more, hesitantly lifting up before lowering herself back down, flush against his lap, one of her soft hands anchoring herself to his shoulder while the other caressed his flushed cheeks.
âI know baby, I know. You feel so good baby boy I donât think Iâm going to be able to last much longer.â
âM-me neither.â, he stuttered as the pace she had previously set seemed to increase in speed, the excitement and ecstasy getting to the both of them and subconsciously pushing the two of them closer to their shared release.Â
The fire was quickly building within her body and she knew she was truly crumbling at the seams, but with the way his body was trembling and his dick was subtly twitching inside of her she knew he was right there too.
âItâs ok baby boy, itâs ok. Cum for me sweet boy. I want you to cum inside and fill up my pussy Spence.â, she muttered feeling the beginning of her end crash unexpectedly throughout her entire being, grasping onto the boy underneath her to tie herself to the earth.Â
Overwhelmed by the utter euphoria of Y/n cumming around him, Spencer let himself get thrown off the edge, his hands tightening on her waist hard enough she was sure little bruises would form come tomorrow, not that she minded at all.
âOh Y/n!â She watched on, obsessed with the way that his mouth fell open in a little o-shape as his eyes squeezed shut, the tell tale signs of pleasure coursing through his veins, the warm feeling that he left deep inside of her as she gently lifted herself from his shaking legs, reaching for her panties before the warmth was able to escape down her damp thighs.
Looking back at the trembling boy after cleaning herself and him up, she couldnât help but melt at the lovesick, puppy dog eyes he was giving her, prompting her to lean forward and leave more little kisses on the top of his damp hair.
âThat was incredible Spence. Really incredible. Iâve never felt anything like that before baby.â
She melted even further at the way he shyly dropped his head to somewhat hide the wide grin that had spread like wildfire across his face. There was a comfortable silence between the two of them before his head lifted with a questioning glance.
âHowâd you-I mean uh how did you know that I liked you?â There was no way she could control the giggles that left her lips at his silly question.
âYou werenât exactly subtle with the whole glasses thing Spence.â
And then the only sound heard throughout the building was her full blown laughter at the mortification that speedily adorned his cherry cheeks.

SINGULARITY
summary: a millennium ago, your heart was broken by the only boy who loved you. a forever later, his heart was broken by the only girl he ever loved. genre: angst, vampire and witch!au (y/n is a witch). warnings: none, heartbreak. a/n: listen to/loop âsingularityâ while reading.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/24e1780b029d23c2ace52240e5e04c40/40857ab487902904-31/s540x810/f7ec6cab859d04b8ca55fe6cd6dc21a3590c449b.jpg)
The old birch door swung open with a creak, the rusted sign clattering in the eerie wind. You sighed. This place was old, and there might not be any Wi-Fi here. But it was your only shot at getting a good nightâs sleep without the possibility of being murdered or robbed.
The empty road was dangerous at night and you were almost out of fuel, deserted in the middle of nowhere, miles away from Seoul. It was spooky so quiet.Â
There was a soft ring as the door shut and a different kind of ambience filled the velveteen walls with a ghostly light and you felt at home. A pale woman with a hunched back and greying hair appeared at the front desk - which was also birch. Birch and rusting. Like the wood was so old it rusted like metal.Â
A cold breeze blew and the lady frowned, raising up her tortoiseshell glasses to her face. âWe havenât had any visitors for a long time... especially since... gosh, itâs been a while. Heâll be very happy, yes, you do look quite like her. Perhaps... perhaps the time has come... a millennium, she said... perhaps it is now time for me to rest... if only...â she appeared to be talking to herself.
You took a step back. You didnât like this place as much as you originally did. It wasnât as fancy, more scary. It didnât help that the woman was really, really creepy, either.Â
Despite your discomfort, the lady smiled, clearing her throat, the attention of her gazed eyes turning to you. âBut of course, itâs far too dangerous for you to stay outside! Especially not at night...â she shivered, like sheâd been reading your earlier thoughts.Â
âFollow me, dear, thereâs a room down the hall. Unfortunately, you will have to share, as the other six have been occupied for quite a long time, if I do say so myself...â she chuckled at her own joke, though you didnât really understand it. The place looked kind of empty. âWe can move your things inside once youâve settled in.â
âOh, no,â you interrupted her quickly, âthank you, but Iâll just be staying overnight.â you might not even stay the whole night. Youâd probably find a way to sneak out later without offending the old woman, she looked lonely.
The lady chuckled sadly, âthatâs what they all say, isnât it? He always lures them here, looking for her. Poor man. Feasts on all those pretty girls. In and never out, just like clockwork. Leaves the rest for his hyungs. Youâre different, though. Perhaps there is something about you, he might like, hmm? I wish you farewell and good luck, dear, this is your stop. I hope you enjoy reading.â with a tilt of her hand she waved, and then she was gone.
The door swung open by itself, whistling in the air. It was pretty spooky, and it wasnât even Halloween yet, it was May, but the interior designers obviously didnât think so.Â
The Victorian walls were laced with black swirls that looked like cobwebs. The mirror on said wall was round and coloured an ominous black shade. The bed was black and ghastly, with black and red sheets. Above it hung a black clock that seemed to be broken.Â
You checked yours, and it appeared to have stopped as well. You clicked your phone but the screen remained dark. You began to back out of the room, instincts shouting danger. The door slammed shut. The candles, scattered all over the room in black mantles, flickered, their flames swaying in the breeze as a lump formed in your throat. Whoever was here was trying to scare you, and it was working.
âArenât you a pretty little thing?â a thick, chocolatey, hollow voice oozed out with warmth, making you jump. The voice chuckled at your surprise obnoxiously. You turned to the corner of the room, where a man with dark hair, pale skin and a ruffled white collar sat at a writing desk, returning his fountain pen to the pot of ink.Â
The beautiful man smiled, getting up. âChaewong really outdid herself this time...â he murmured the words quietly, taking a step forwards, approaching you carefully. âWhat a brilliant witch she is, hmm?â the woman at the front desk was a witch? Now, that didnât make any sense.Â
âAm I high?â you didnât mean to say. The man glared at you and you were afraid youâd offended him but thankfully, he sighed, uncrossing his arms.Â
âYour generation... youâre all so naĂŻve.â he scoffed at his own words, prancing around you like a predator stalking his prey; as if he were some kind of higher power. You frowned. What did he mean, âyour generationâ? You were the same age as he was, if not a few months younger. Anyone could tell.Â
âLook,â you went with your guts. âI get that this is a joke. So, you got your eomma into it somehow, and got a bit of technology for it, too. I gotta say, great job on the set. But this is getting really creepy, and I just really need a place to stay. I donât mind sharing a room with you, but if you donât mind just backing off for a bit -âÂ
Your own eomma had always said you were bad at choosing words of speech. The man growled before huffing and uncrossing his arms again. âYou always were the same, werenât you? Stubborn. Forgetful. Ignorant.â he laughed at forgetful and you clenched your fists; you really didnât like this guyâs vibe.
âAlright, thatâs it. Iâm going to call the police. Youâre going to jail for harassment. See here? Iâm going to call the police on you.â you wove your phone around even though youâd been having trouble turning it on.Â
The man sighed sadly, âthat wonât work.â he hung his head low, sniffing. The voice that dripped confidence now dripped misery. âIâm sorry, Y/N... I learnt my lesson. I really did. I love you forever. I didnât mean to court her. I only ever wanted you; only you.â
âHow do you know who I am?â these serial killers were dangerous on a whole new level. The black-haired man sighed, pushing back his dark locks. âMagic doesnât stop time,â he murmured sadly, âbut love does.â He stepped closer, hoping, praying, that you recognised those words. All you recognised, however, was that you needed to get out of here, and fast.
âMagic always came with a price,â the man continued on, âbut you wonât remember that.â you felt sorry for him, perhaps he had a bad case of amnesia. âYouâre the one under a memeory spell! Your own, if I do recall.â could everyone here read your thoughts? âYes,â he crossed his arms, âyes, we can.â
ââWeâ?â you thought out loud. The tall man grumbled loudly. âYou used to know them. And itâs your fault you forgot them. They are members of our kingdomâs court.â now he was talking nonsense. âI am not talking nonsense,â he retorted, âmerely the truth. You knew them, once, and you left them. But nevermind that. Youâre here now, and right now all that really matters, is us. You and I, together again.âÂ
He advanced, and before you could object, hooked an arm around your waist, and placed a kiss on your lips. You gasped, but not from the kiss. A white light flashed through your mind at an instant; a thousand memories tumbling into you all at once, pouring the heart back into your soul.
The boys at the palace were brats. They had you set the table only for them to mess it up again. They would send you to fetch things, only for them to tell you to return them shortly after. You went to school, hoping to make friends, only for them to have spread a rumor about you weeks before.
They did get better throughout the years, though, and began treating you as an equal. As their friend. And you didnât mind, being the only girl in a group of eight. You liked it.Â
But you liked one of them in particular, more than the rest. He was kind, quiet, beautiful, and he felt absolutely heavenly. His soft voice always sung you to sleep. His warm heart always comforted your broken one. He was the closest that youâd ever been to someone. He was -
âKim Taehyung.â you spoke into the breath, gasping out the tears. You felt like someone had torn you open, pulled out your heart, thrown it away for years, only for you to find it again. âIâm sorry,â he choked, âI didnât mean to. She. I was helpless, she...â only to find it broken again. âPlease, please forgive me.â the words stung. âYou let her,â your voice broke, âyou let her make you a monster.â Taehyung flinched at your words.
âShe made me,â he insisted, still holding you tight. âShe made me. I couldnât let her get to you, I couldnât. I couldnât let her turn you into...â he choked again, âinto what I am.âÂ
Suddenly cold, you turned around, back facing him, taking a step forwards. âNo!â his voice towered through the walls. Chairs and tables worked together to form a barrier that trapped you in with him. âPlease,â his thick voice was shaky, âplease let me love you.â
A single tear bit your cheek on its way down. That was as much as you would allow yourself over this man. Heâd broken your heart one too many times. âIâm sorry, Taehyung,â you shook your head, shaking silently with tears. âBut I love you too much.âÂ
He moaned with such misery that you wanted to break down and cry on him, just like you used to all those years ago. âAt least break the curse,â he pleaded, ânone of those girls are anything compared to you.â your heart screamed at you. Your lip trembled, âitâs already broken.â you knew he was frowning, âtrue loveâs kiss.â

You know after reading and reading and reading peoples theories and the meta from before the spn finale aired and the meta writers reactions to the finale I think I have a theory of my own. We don't have any answers tho, so this is pure speculation. If you wanna add something to support or discredit any of this that's cool but there's too many things floating around. Know I dont have proof for this conclusion at all. A lot of what I say is just guesses based on previous facts.
This all came together in my head when I realized how much this finale REEKS of the original producers and who the show was originally for. It REEKS of Robert Singer. Like if the execs started saying they didn't want it, Robert Singer was the one pushing that the story was about the brothers. That kinda thing.
Then, I was thinking of the problems in this episode and it struck me these are all of Supernatural biggest issues and to be honest all of it feels completely deliberate.
Take the sexism for example, Supernatural in it's later seasons largely out grew this, we have Jody, Rowena, Donna, Charlie, Mary, Claire (and even a wayward sisters pilot with MORE women/girls) all making regular appearances. They're mainly good characters and mostly aren't there to hurt our boys. Rowena, of course, is the one outlier being very about herself but it's clear she still cares for them, I mean its part of her development. But they're all real, with character flaws just like everyone else. (And we have Death too and she was POC đ THANK GOD)
Now look at the earlier half of Spn, we have Ellen and Jo, who's appearances were far in between. There's Bela in season 3, recurring for quite a bit (5 eps), but she is a character that is only there for herself, definitely not found family (unlike Ellen & Jo), and she's got more episodes in season 3 than Ellen and Jo in season 2 who aren't seen again til season 5. The "fans" send in hate mail after hate mail to try to get these characters off, and eventually they are. Then there's Ruby who's character stayed for a whole two seasons and was a largely recurring character. Why does she get to say so long? She's a plot device. She's supposed to be there to betray Sam. She has to stay (plus Jared obviously likes her). But she's not just a character the writers like writing about. Same with Lilith. Obviously not as recurring but still a plot device. Did they get hate mail tho? You can bet on it. Why? because tHeY'rE gOnNa PuSh ThE bOyS (Dean and Sam) aPaRt ThE sHoW iS aBoUt ThE bOyS oNlY. Without even thinking about the hate mail, just notice how large the difference is from how women are seen in the earlier seasons to the later seasons. Misha got tons of hate mail too for being a character that could split up the boys (probably only being allowed to say because he a man, thanks sexist producers and execs).
Only after Castiel was killed off and then Castiel fans successfully (thank you guys) got him back on the show did the hate mail largely simmer, which means female character's were allowed to stay! Which has lead us to a show with a good amount of female characters. But can you imagine having to kill characters off time and time again because people keep complaining that the show is "only about the boys." Fun times really.
So now we get to this final and we see sexism. But it wasn't just the plain old regular sexism you find in the earlier days of spn. Because now, there ARE women to talk about, talk to. But this episode was DESOLATE women wise, unless they were used for plot (which is also sexist!). Small scenes, they're barely there. Women gets her tongue cut out. Random women from s1 gets killed. Sam doesn't SPEAK of Eileen. Nothing. No mention of any female characters from the boys mouths unless they were from/in this episode itself. That's WIERD. I know we've all said it. But that goes beyond forgetting about characters. I mean its SAM'S GIRLFRIEND for Christ's sake. There is NO REASON they couldn't have said Eileen's name. Notice how Sam's wife is just... faceless. This is literally an age old sexist trope. Like... one of the things about bringing Mary back to life for s12+ is that it takes this trope... of basically a generic mother, and gives her life and feelings, whether you like them or not, they're real feelings. They said Mary isn't just a mom she's a person. Mary's existence in the later half of spn is to fix this kind of female tropes that fall upon her character, to not let these her stay a 2 dimensional character. They said we should know she's more than just the mom who tried to save her kid. Do that is the exact opposite of Sam getting a nameless, faceless wife. The sexism of the old spn wasn't just brought back, it was completely amplified. It wasn't just accidental or some exec "fixing" the story it was DELIBRATE. Whoever wrote that, didn't do ALL OF THAT by accident. Because an exec or a producer who doesn't see the flaws in old supernatural isn't going to write it that deliberately.
Let's bring it back to s10 when Charlie was killed (singer was mainly to blame). Dead in the bathtub, age old classic of burying ur gays. If you were here you know people never let Supernatural live that down. THEY KNOW what bury ur gays means. Hell, Robbie Thompson left because of Charlie's death and you think the writers don't know what it means? I mean both Bobo Berens (especially) and Steve Yockey's careers are centered around LGBT+ storytelling and you think they don't know? They know. They know.
And Dean wasn't just apart of the bury your gays trope, it is so far BEYOND that. Dean being killed on a rusty nail/screw, the tongues ripped out, things that seemed to be meant for other people. Jensen's acting in the last two episodes was giving us "DEAN RECIPROCATES" but no one ever actually saying it. I think it's clear that Dean was killed for being Bi. They didn't address it for a reason, they just silenced him. His narrative was supposed to be about letting him be HIM for the first time, to say what his feelings are instead of having them miscommunicated, and instead of doing that, they just silenced him. And the more we look at this scene the more horrific it gets. The more it's a complete slap in the face and it's supposed to be. Some guy who knows nothing about the LGBT can't write a scene this horrific.
Some guy who knows nothing about Dean couldn't write a scene that deconstructs all of Dean's character development and gives Dean his worst nightmare. I MEAN DEAN WANTED TO LIVE HIS LIFE! THEY DIDNT HIDE THAT JOB APPLICATION (or whatever job related thing that was) IN THERE FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES THEY WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST SITUATION. Dean isn't Barney from HIMYM. If you watched HIMYM then you'll know Barney went from being a stereotypical ladies man and treating women terribly to being in love with a women and treating her right and working hard for it. The last episode of HIMYM (why its so bad) Barney's character development is thrown out and he's back to being a stereotypical ladies man. You don't need to know Barney's character very much to do that.
To kill Dean during a hunt his father never finished, to not have anyone at his funeral, to have Dean die young like his life didn't matter. Those are Dean's worst fears and you'd only truly know that if you watched the gin episode in s3, where they are basically laid out for you. You HAVE to know Dean's character to tear him apart like this.
This episode took all the core elements of the show and did a complete 180° the name of the episode itself is "Carry on" and Dean and Sam very much did not carry on. Sam grieving his entire life so that he good get to heaven and see Dean again. Dean being ready to live his life, despite the enormous pitfalls and learning to love himself only to be killed. "Family don't end with blood." Um.... it did in that episode either literally with Dean's death or you know BECAUSE NONE OF THEIR FOUND FAMILY WAS THERE. Not Jack, Not Cas, Not Eileen, Not Donna, Not Charlie, Not Jody, Not Claire... on and on we go. No one was there, nobody was even mentioned. Dean's funeral, no one even called that we know of. It was just Sam and Dean. Sam and Dean. And Bobby. Don't forget Bobby. But yeah Sam and Dean.
That's what the show is about right, the brothers.
Except it's not anymore. It hasn't been for years.
Cas not being there was deafening but it brought us to a major point. Becky. Becky's telling us about the terrible ending.
And many of us are wondering why would they literally tell us this is the worst ending and then... make it the ending.
Now before we move on, it very apparent many of you think Dabb doesn't ship Deancas. And Dabb doesn't care about the characters.
Say what you will about any plot holes in his writing, the point he is VERY GOOD at writing the characters, and giving us good ones.
Why do we know Dabb ships Deancas? (ill say when its cowrote, other wise its not) cowrote ep 8.02 - purgatory "I prayed to you, Cas, every night" "Cas, Buddy, I need you." "I have a price on my head, and I've been trying to stay one step ahead of them, to ïżœïżœ to keep them away from you." 8.08 Hunteri Heroici - Cas helps them hunt! đ†Dean & Cas have a serious convo about why Cas doesn't want to see/go to heaven. 8.22 Dean's mad at Cas. Sam's explanation of why Dean should be easy on Cas: "It's Cas." Dean then points out how he'd knife anybody else if they did what Cas did. 9.10 - Cas comforts Dean when Dean can't take seeing Sam (Gadreel) being tortured anymore. Also tons of Cas. 9.20 (bloodlines) - Canonical couple parallel "I was there, where were you" 9.22 The angels make Cas choose between them and killing Dean and he "gave up an entire army for one guy" 10.09 Claire's reintroduction. Cas heavy ep. DeanCas date. 10.22 THE PRISONER - u know the ep where Dean beats the shit out of Cas but loves him enough to not kill him.
We COULD keep going but I think I've made my point. If Robert Singer is the guy that is like "the show is about Sam and Dean only" Andrew Dabb is the DeanCas shipper. And you could even say a Cas stan.
Notice! How in s13 for SEVEN episodes we have a story that revolves around Dean's grief about losing Cas. Notice! How often the stories in all these seasons have a focus on their relationship. THAT is Andrew Dabb. If it weren't for him doing that, we wouldn't be able to easily say after Dean's lack of a response to Cas' confession, that Dean reciprocates.
To me, when I was (binge) watching s12 for the first time, I thought damn this is really got a lot of DeanCas. So I went to look at who was in charge, who was writing. I saw Andrew Dabb, associated him with Deancas episodes, saw all the new writers, Bobo, and then I saw that Yockey is known for same sex stories and it clicked. Dabb assembled a team to give us Destiel. THAT WAS IN SEASON 12!!!!!!!!
The amount of people saying he's homophobic flabbergast me. Open your eyes! That isn't what's going on.
Imagine making a show and trying to right all the wrongs of Supernatural. Imagine trying to write the greatest love story ever told and you have the entire season planned out for it to end off beautifully, it may possibly be your greatest achievement when it's done and then boom. someone comes in and tells you you aren't allowed to make Dean bi or make destiel endgame, after he was most probably already given the go ahead.
Sure. You could imply he's bi or into cas still in a way. Still make nice-ish ending. just give everyone what the kinda want.
Or you could scrap the last season, nothing close to a canonical bisexual Dean Winchester or Deancas endgame in site. People can be done with it be happy with the show, continue to live their lives in ignorance as to how close they were to Canon destiel.
OR you can lead everyone to the very closest you can get them to what you were aiming for and then show everyone the ugly truth and reality. Light it all on fire. Burn the show to the ground in your wake. Try your darnedest to making these people's (the people saying no) pockets suffer. Show us, the audience, what happened. Show us what this show really is.
I've seen people talk about the ending being changed during covid but I dont think that happened. I think what happened was Dabb already had this season planned out before it even started. Obviously the details were wobbly but it was all lead up to this ending. Destiel endgame, Canon Bisexual Dean, whatever it was. They were ready to write the greatest love story ever told and then someone shut it down.
Imagine the pain that must have caused them to be told no when they already said yes. They must have been so excited to give this to us.
I think someone (some producers) told him what this show is "really" about. The brothers. Can you imagine, after being told no, some kinda bullshit like this is said to you: "Why aren't you bringing it back to the brothers, Andrew? that's what the shows about. What with all this homosexual stuff, you know the audience won't like that. Not really." Imagine the original producers pushing this kind of view on you. "You know when we started it was Sam and Dean. It should end with Sam and Dean." That kinda sounds like someone huh? huh.
So why give us a nice acceptable finale, when you can take every problem Supernatural's had either up front or behind the scenes and create a finale so incredibly bad that people don't want to watch it anymore.
Someone made a good point about how Sam was originally supposed to be the main focus (this isn't to put any hate on Sam or Jared). Dean and Sam are the main characters but Sam was supposed to be the focus and for Dean to have become the focus, must have annoyed the producers because... well here we are. They wouldn't listen to Jensen. The producers liked this ending. Jensen's opinion didn't matter to them.
In some ways, if this is really what happened, it can be seen as childish from Dabb. To hurt all of us like that. Yes, he's hurting the producers, the execs, the cw. But to hurt us? Yeah it stings.
But in other ways, if this is really what happened, this is Dabb showing us the muck and gunk under the shiny surface. The hate for Misha. The hidden hate for Jensen. The underlying sexism. The underlying homophobia. The people REALLY in charge don't care about us, they just want our money. He needed to open our eyes and free us, at least free the people that he was writing for. The people he sees that care about this show.
This is the ending the powers that be wanted and its a big fuck you for a reason. I dont think this is Dabb spitting in our faces for loving this show, I think this is him trying to get revenge for us.
But from here, you can see it how u want it. If this is really what happened, I'm not in charge of your emotions, if you wanna be mad be mad if you wanna be grateful be grateful. And you don't have to believe me either I said this is speculation.
Also, as for all of the rumors like there being shots to the confession scene that we didn't see, which Jensen himself implied, I think that might have been a last ditch effort to canonized DeanCas but obviously it was cut. Like the name change was pretty clear. As for Misha possibly having shot some stuff for 20 I dont know what to tell you. If it's true I dont know where the blame would lie.
I do think however, that if all this was the case, the writers were prepared to become villians here. I mean they told us the writers were villians with Chuck right? So. Who knows what went down so they could give us such a vile ending. It could've been the producers or the writers, who truly knows. I do think tho that people we "trust" did some pretty shitty things to push the narrative in certain directions so now one would see this as the actual ending that was coming.
So again do with my SPECULATION what you will. This was in no way meant to put Dabb on a pedestal or anything. Just meant to give a bit of perspective.
(Also Jensen didn't unfollow Dabb recently he was already unfollowed for years)

Robin Jason, a friend and ally of the Titans.
PART 2.
Hi! Welcome to Part 2 of this post, as I said in the last one, I will be talking about Robin Jasonâs moments and not reviewing the issues from a story point of view but I think I will have to give a little more context in this one because honestly I am a little lost with this particular storyline, there is too much going on and Jason isn't part of many pages so yeah, I hope this post isn't too boring or bad though.
I will link part 1 Here!
Letâs begin!
·        NTT (1884) #26-28
In my last post I talked about how Jason would be called by Donna to help the Titans save Dick and Raven from Brother Bloodâs people. We start #26 with Mother Mayhem giving a public speech on television. What you have to get from this is that this cult is using the image of the two Titans/Heroes (Nightwing and Raven) that they captured as propaganda for their intentions, their intentions being resurrecting Brother Blood and making the world believe that they are good people. Obviously, Dick and Raven are not there because they are supportive of their cause, they were both brainwashed.
In this issue the Titans team that had fallen apart in issue #19 is back, so we find Donna, Beast boy, Cyborg, Joey and Wally together once more and they are trying to figure out what to do because they have two problems, on one hand Beast Boyâs father is killing people and captured Garth and on the other a whole ass cult is doing cult-y shit and captured Dick and Raven. In the end they choose to go save Dick and Raven first but they do it because Beast Boy says this âIâŠdonât know. I canât say what we should do. We need Dick hereâŠheâs a tactician. We need him as out leaderâ. Never in my life would I have thought that I would agree with beast boy but yeahâŠhard agree.
Donna understands that even though the team is (mostly) back on its feet they still need more firepower and thatâs why she calls Jason. While it was kinda rude of Cyborg to say that Jason is not all that (in terms of firepower) any kind of tension is quicky gone because Starfire comes back (talk about firepower).
We have various moments of Beast Boy being a perv towards Kory (thanks a lot Marv) but thatâs not important, whatâs important is that now the Titans have to tell Kory that Dick has been captured and they are on their way to save him.
They all leave to Zandia (where Brother Bloodâs Church is located) and a fight ensues as soon as they arrive, they fight but their goal is to get to the Church as fast as possible. Jason doesnât say anything in these panels but he is fighting alongside the others. When things get a bit more complicated Jason starts to feel that maybe he isnât that capable of handling himself but he doesnât have to do anything by himself because this time he has a team that can back him up. Kory gives him a lift as soon as Jason is surrounded, he is of course thankful and a little bit pervy (thanks a lot Marv).
Kory is shot just after she gets him out of trouble and Jason as the adorable kid that he is becomes worried for her well-being. After Beast Boy is also injured in the fight the Titans decide to leave back to camp. Thankfully both Kory and BB are okay but they are all still worried about how they will get to the Church. We see here once more Donna being a bit overwhelmed with leading the Titans and beating herself up over what happened in Switzerland (#20 and #21) but Jason reassures her instantly that she did a good job and she doesnât need to be so hard on herself.
This interaction here is particularly nice because Jason reassures Donna without her asking for it. In my last post Donna looked for reassurance in Robin several times but she didnât do it because she actually wanted Jason to give his thoughts, she did it because she was hoping Jason would act like Dick and eventually take over the teamâs leadership. Here that isnât the case, Jason just tells her what he thinks.
After Donna talks about her doubts Kory says that she is impatient and worried about Dick but also expresses being unsure because the last time that she saw Dick they kinda left things off on âbad termsâ. I say this because just like it happened with Jason and Roy, Jason and Kory also have differences, she is a grown and experienced woman that is going through adult problems and Jason is a kid that is just happy that he was called to join them on another adventure.
If we back a few panels to when Jason said that Kory âwas a sight for sore eyesâ Kory responds saying âfirst Changeling, now you. Itâs got to be pubertyâ, she is obviously not pleased about Jason making that comment about her and itâs also made clear that he is just a teenager.
This is where I rant about how different what we see here is from what we get later in New 52. Just like Roy (in New 52) Kory is also seemingly very close or the same age as Jason and she is the one that is written as wanting to take Jason to bed or, at the very least, attracted to him. Kory being an adult in comparison with Jason is taken away from her and she is just transformed into something to fit Jasonâs new beginning as the Red Hood. Lobdell didnât do Kory any favours, he annihilated her character and made her out to be just eye candy that can come off as stupid and way too reckless just to prop Jason up, believe it or not Jason sometimes was the voice of reason to both Roy and Koryâs antics.
Itâs even worse when you consider the fact that in this issue Kory is feeling better and more confident because she finally understands what she wants and has accepted Earth as her real home, all of that is gone in New 52, Kory is lost, insecure, she even depends on Jason a bit too much at the start (because she âdidnât rememberâ her time on earth or Dick) and goes back to killing. All in all, Lobdellâs version of Kory was very damaging and a disservice to her past history.
Back to the issue, as Donna and the others are going to start coming up with a plan (with only two days until resurrection day) we move scenes and find ourselves in a meeting where people are complaining about the Titans messing up their plans, but that is not what matters, apparently the people in that meeting wanted to âsummon the Brotherhoodâ and here is where we are introduced to the person who will make the Titansâ lives a little more complicatedâŠTwister. She is one of the people that were victims to Brother Bloodâs brainwashing and experiments.
In the next page we see the Titans resting but Cyborg is awake so thanks to that he hears someone coming straight to them, here Kory takes the lead and she says once more that she will not kill whoever that is, that she canât and wonât do that anymoreâŠI wonder if Lobdell ever read these issues, maybe not.
The attacker was Twister and in seconds she twists the Titansâ reality and leaves them all incapacitated. She then goes to look for and recruit the Brotherhood of Evil. While she did that though the Titans slowly made their way back to the city and are now getting ready to attack. Donnas plans as we soon find out donât include Jason as one of their front line fighters, in fact he has to be left behind as back up.
Jason is not very happy about this; he is the boy wonder! But because itâs the plan and the Titans are experienced, he decided to stay put (at least for now). Its funny to me that even Beast Boy calls Jason a kid. What is sad from these panels is obviously the last thing that Jason says âI canât wait until I am sixteen!â. I mean, this issue came out exactly two years before Jasonâs death, there was no way they could have seen that coming but yeah, itâs just sad. Jason really was in a better and happier place around this time, little did he know everything would turn upside down after a while. Â
The rest of the Titans fight, Donna starts to feel like she is finally in control and that she is doing a great job at keeping the Titans together, Kory is having her inner turmoil about Dick but she is doing her job and when she decides to go help Cyborg and Joey they come across the Brotherhood of Evil. This is where #26 ends.
Issue #27 starts with a very difficult fight for Kory, Cyborg and Joey, it ends with Kory injured, Joey captured and with Cyborg thrown off a window. The only one of them that Donna, Beast Boy and Jason are able to save is Kory.
The Titans that re left have to retreat and find a place to recover, Jason is very silent all the time but Donna and Kory are the ones that are having interesting talks, they have to find out where the Brotherhood has Joey and Cyborg and their time to save Dick and Raven is running out but if they donât save the others they might die. Itâs a complicated situation and they are both impatient but Donna tells Kory this âDick would be the first to tell you to plan first, attack laterâ, I bring this up because nowadays its very common for fanon and current writers to think of Dick as someone that doesnât plan, that doesnât think before jumping. Even Beast boy called him a tactician, I know this is a Jason post but its also a post about how characterizations are also kinda destroyed. Dick has suffered a lot from mischaracterization so its nice to go back to these stories and see that what we think Dick should be now isnât something that we once imagined but something that mas modified or taken away from him either by fanon or current writers.
After the Titans decide to wait for the storm to pass to go looking for Joey and Cyborg, we actually see that Cyborg is in the city looking for shelter, he is injured and as he falls unconscious we meet a couple that decides to save him. Back to the Titans once more we have Jason say that the storm that is forming look âlike something out of Ghostbustersâ its then that the Brotherhood makes itself known, they are taunting them and they have roped Joey to the top of the capitol building and they are asking the Titans to surrender or Joey dies.
Its here where Donna takes full control of the Titans and even though she and Kory have different ideas of what to do she says that she is the leader now and what she says gets done. Donna will be in charge of saving Joey while the others will make their way towards the Brother Blood Church to help Dick and Raven.
Before they go their separate ways Jason says this about Donna âWow! I wouldnât wanna be in her shoes for all the garbage pail kid stickers in the world.â I am going to be honest, I had to look those stickers up and all I have to say is what the hell. But I am not here to talk about stickers I am here to talk about how funny its that Jason is being so uninterested about leading a team. Now, donât get me wrong, Jason has the ability to lead, yes, but he is better at leading himself or an operation, we have all read UtRH, we know how well the Red Hood can handle himself and his plans but a team of heroes? Controversial opinion but I think that Jason should have never been given a team and I am talking about Kory and Roy as well as Artemis and Bizarro. Was Rebirth better than New 52? Absolutely. But I just donât see Jason as a leader of a team of heroes and itâs also incredibly repetitive, just because he was Robin doesnât mean that he needs his own team. I know that Robin Jason and Red Hood Jason arenât the same person and that they might think differently but if Lobdell had never come into Red Hood/Jason Toddâs life when he did we might have never seen Jason lead his own team and that to me is proof enough that it should have never happened. I quite enjoyed the Prince of Gotham storyline in Red Hood: Outlaw, he didnât have a team but he had an operation going on and people working FOR him not WITH him. In my opinion thatâs better for Jason (if you would like to see me review that storyline let me know).
There is a lot happening story wise and I am finding it more and more difficult to continue talking about Jasonâs moments here without giving context so I am going to resume what happened between Donna leaving to save Joey and Jasonâs next appearance in this issue. Here we go, Brain tells Monsieur Mallah that he decided to âhelpâ Twister take down the Titans because he wants to use Brother Bloodâs Blood Pool because he is dying, Twister goes back to her familyâs home and we get to see how brainwashed she is, her family is shocked to see her and they are also the ones that took care of Cyborg while he was unconscious, Cyborg leaves to find the Titans but Twister sees where he left to, she tells the Brotherhood where he might have gone to but protects her family by not telling them that they were the ones that protected Cyborg in the first place and Donna was able to save Joey. I think that was everything.
We see Jason again when he is just outside Brother Bloodâs Church with Kory (who is giving him a lift) and Beast Boy. But because life canât be easy for them the Brotherhood of Evil teleports there and a fight ensues. Kory takes the lead and Jason gets to work.
Kory praises Jason for his work here not because she canât do anything but because she is seeing that a kid is doing an excellent job. Make no mistake, she is the one with experience but she is nice and gives credit when its due.
Cyborg arrives and the fight continues. We see Beast Boy warning Jason about some of the villainsâ powers and Jason being the excellent Robin that he is pays attention and escapes Plasmusâ touch.
I might not think that Red Hood is a team player but Robin Jason absolutely is, and the Titans are nice and care for his safety.
While all of this was happening, Cyborg had made his way to the Church and there he gathers all kinds of information including the location of Brother Bloods main Church in the US. He also makes the alarms sound so everyone leaves because he set up the Church to blow up. Somewhere else Monsieur Mallah is threatening to kill Brain after the later insults him again. And there is where this issue ends.
In issue #28 Jason and the rest of the Titans appear after several pages of Mother Mayhem being a creep, Azrael the angel rising and trying to resurrect Brother Blood through the power of prayers, people watching the live broadcasting of the event and Dick trying to break free from his own head but as soon as he does it Mother Mayhem brainwashes him right away.
The Titans are back in their tower where we see Wally again but that is not all, Frances Kane and Robotman come in too. After all the people who are willing to fight get together the Titans make their way to Brother Bloods Church.
Itâs in the jet with Wally that we see Jason and this time he gets to talk too! Jason is talking about how much braver the Titans are compared to him but Wally calms him down by saying that even though he has been doing this for a while he is also scared.
The fact that Jason joined the Titans on another adventure without mentioning it to Bruce is funny to me, he was probably so happy that Donna called him again! Maybe Jason was more bored of being with the Bat than he let on and maybe he didnât feel appreciated enough or heard. I also like to think that Donna got Jasonâs number through Dick, like do you remember that Dick gave Jason his number if he ever wanted to talk shit about the Bat with him? What if they did talk and then Dick put Jasonâs number on the Titansâ data base? That would be cool and really sweet!
Jason continues to be a team player and being useful during the fights, he has the Titansâ back as much as the Titans have his.
They fight their way in Brother Bloodâs Church and once there they find a dude called the Confessor with Arella (Ravenâs mother) but he tells the Titans that she is dead. Somewhere else though is where the real trouble is at, between Azrael and Raven, Brother Blood has finally been resurrected.Â
Itâs in the last page where Brother Blood is looking all mighty and powerful that Dick seems to have broken free from his brainwashing once more.
 Thatâs the end of that issue and this part of the post. This one was super difficult to write and itâs even longer than part one, I hope I didnât make it super difficult to read. At some points I felt like I was explaining too much and in others too little. I guess itâs very difficult to show how one character participates in a story without giving context but I just didnât want this post to be too plot heavy.
These issues had some cool Jason moments but the ones in issues #29 to #31 are even better!

A look into LadyNoir for my Reversal AU, The Other Way Around. You donât really need to read the other parts to get this one :)
Title: The Other Way Around, Part 3 Pairing: Lovesquare (LadyNoir) Â Rating: G+ Word Count: 2.5K
The first time Marinette really interacted with a cat was at a friendâs house. She was six years old at her very first sleepover. Nervous and shy, sheâd spent the majority of the evening worrying about what would happen once the lights were out. Sheâd never had to sleep through a night without her parents or family with her. No amount of cartoons or pillow fights could fully ease the fear of impending darkness.
The other three girls seemed totally adjusted and excited, but Marinette could hardly eat dinner even though it was pizza from their favorite spot. Then she nearly burst into tears at the table when they served the cookies her parents had sent with her, overwhelmed with missing them so badly. With her eyes stinging and her voice ready to cry out that they should call home to pick her up, Button the cat suddenly sprung onto her lap. She was a fluffy tan thing with two black dots going down the center of her back, hence her name. In that moment she looked just like a chocolate chip cookie, albeit one that blinked up at Marinetteâs face with huge, adorable brown eyes. The cat smooshed her head against the girlâs stomach, sat down, and began to purr. In her surprise and fascination, young Marinette forgot what she was so upset over.
She never had pets growing upâthe hair was too much to maintain when her family also lived in a bakeryâso she hadnât any courage to approach Button before, even when the other girls had spent time petting her. She knew cats had claws and their yawns revealed sharp, pointy teeth. The last thing she wanted was to get scratched or bitten when she was already terrified. Cats had been a scary mystery. Button was small and fluffy and warm. The moment she cuddled up to her, Marinette fell in love.
After that day, cats became her favorite animal, and while she still wasnât allowed to have one (despite the begging and puppy eyes that her mother valiantly fought against with gentle reasoning), Marinette surrounded herself with them as a good luck charm. She had kitty keychains, plush toys, cat-covered folders to take to class, and cat-print bedsheets. The obsessive phase lasted for three years, but the fondness stayed even when her room took on a pink and floral theme to match her changing design aesthetic. Obviously when she found the giant body pillow shaped like a cat, she knew she had to have it anyway. After long days of dealing with Chloeâs yapping and her own special trademark combination of back luck and clumsiness, hugging that massive squishy cat became her ultimate comfort.
That was, until another cat fell into her lap. Well, crashed into her entire body was more what happened.
When she was gifted her miraculous, Marinette thought herself a poor fit for a superhero. She liked leadership positions and really didnât have a big problem taking charge when needed, but saving lives was a ton of pressure. Sheâd thrown her yoyo randomly, not sure of a single move she made, and in doing so managed to tangle her partner and herself up despite the superpowers. Chat Noir seemed more natural, and surely he deserved a partner that had the confidence to match his skills instead of her. Marinette was stuck in her head with apprehension. Sheâd totally screwed up her very first mission by letting the akuma multiply instead of purifying it. She wasnât excited to be a hero. She was terrified.
Maybe it was the cat bias that made her instantly trust Chat Noir, but it was the way he put his warm hands so squarely on her shoulders and assured her that she could do this, that made her fall in love. It was the second time a cat had saved her from giving in to her fears.
He gave her the courage to stand up to Hawkmoth, and the moment she vowed to take him down was a triumph of bravery. She wouldnât have been able to do that without him.
Of course she fell for him.
He didnât make it any easier for her as they got closer. He was just so endearingly sweet, throwing compliments at her all the time for encouragement.
If only she didnât turn into an absolute pile of goo whenever he did. At least she was always able to pull herself together to get the job done, but it was his fault. What could anyone expect from her when her partner was talented, smart, super handsome, and somehow humble about all of it?
Sheâd witnessed how he avoided the spotlight in favor of checking up with akuma victims. Sheâd seen him time after time go out of his way to protect others, especially her, from harmâs way. And after he did all those things heâd throw her the credit as if she was the one saving the day.
They worked together well, reading each otherâs moves and adapting to each otherâs pace. But he never needed the attention, happy to just get the mission done. It was a side of him that she got to see when the crowds werenât looking, proud at what theyâd accomplished while holding his fist out to hers in solidarity to say, âWe did it!â Together. Always together.
But then their miraculouses would beep, and theyâd have to go their separate ways with her casting lingering glances towards whichever horizon heâd disappear off to.
At least during some of their mutual patrols they had time to talk. She looked forward to each one, no matter what other responsibilities she had waiting for her once it was over. Getting to know her partner was such a highlight to her identity as Ladybug. There was the triumph of victory, the thrill of the physics defying feats she could accomplish, the heartwarming gratitude of the citizens⊠and then there was this: sitting at the top of the Eiffel with their feeting dangling in the cool Parisian air, aimlessly talking above a safe city set aglow with evening lights; the warm sense of security yet tingling excitement of hanging out with her one and only crush.
âFavorite hot drink?â she wondered.
Asking non-identifying questions was their way of bonding without compromising themselves.
Chat Noir hummed thoughtfully over a cookieâraspberry macarons, a favorite she had learned fairly early on. âThe hot chocolate you brought in the winter was great. Probably the best Iâve ever had, actually.â
She blushed and kicked her feet nervously. She swore that she wouldâve tripped if theyâd been walking. Somehow his compliments did that to her. âT-thanks.â
He grabbed another macaron and turned it over, studying the ruffled feet as he added, âOtherwise Iâm really fond of tea. My mother liked English high tea; always insisted we have a tea break at some point in the day. When I was a kid I was only in it for the cookies and sandwiches, but at this point I like the drink too. It's nostalgic.â
He always got wistful when he spoke about his mother, but Marinette knew that train of thought would lead them to somewhere too personal. It wasnât that she didnât yearn to know more about him. Quite the opposite, but they both knew that it wasnât safe yet. There had been too many close calls. She followed up with another question. âAny tea in particular?â
âEarl grey, usually. Iâm a fan of London Fogs over coffee.â
She smiled down, looking at her homeâs direction. They had a lovely macaron with that flavor as well, she thought. She could bring him a variety box next time. Maybe one day they could do tea together in some fashion. A picnic, perhaps? High tea during an evening patrol seemed a bit strange, but she could always brew him a decaf in a thermos so he wouldnât be hopped up on caffeine. Or maybe that was too much if she was already bringing the same flavor in a cookie. Did hot chocolate go well with earl grey? What about the raspberry? Plenty of people ordered a variety of flavors all the time. Maybe she should throw in a few others for balance, like the rose ones. Wait, were rose flavored macarons too romantic? Would it seem like a date if she brought him flower-flavored food? Not that she didnât want to date him because of course she did butâ
âDeep in thought, Ladybug?â
Chat Noirâs twinkling green eyes greeted her, just a few centimeters from her face. He must have been trying to get her attention for a while.
Surprised, she suddenly scooted back and flailed. âOh!â Thankfully she was securely seated on the beam enough to not begin a sad plummet to the ground. Desserts were well and good, but sheâd prefer to avoid becoming a polka dotted pancake. âYes, sorry! Did you say something?â
He laughed his magical laugh, accustomed to her tendency to get lost in her own head. âNo need to apologize. I was just saying that it was my turn to ask a question before we turn in for the night.â
Ah, was it already time to go back? Sheepishly, the heroine smiled. âDid you already ask it?â
A flash of teeth showed off his mirthful grin. âI did.â
âSorry.â He had already told her not to apologize, but it was embarrassing that she was fantasizing about dating him when he was literally sitting besides her. âWhat was it again?â
âI asked if youâve been on a date lately, Little Lady.â
Oh.
Her mind short-circuited. Had she been babbling out loud? How desperate had she sounded? âWhat? Me! Doing to date you? I mean, going on a date with someyou? Someone!â
If her slip up meant anything, he didnât acknowledge it. He never did. Did she want him to?
âYep. Like a romantic one-on-one date. I, uh,â he bashfully scratched the back of his neck, âIâve been thinking about it lately.â
A rush of blood warmed her cheeks. âY-you were?â Thinking about dating someone? Her? Them? Romantically!
He avoided her eyes, choosing to look up instead as he laughed nervously. âFor a while now. I donât even think I could, but thereâs a girlâŠâ
Iâm a girl, her brain supplied with excitement.
âYou canât ask her?â
He clicked his tongue. âThereâs a few conflicts. First of all, I donât know how she really feels about me, and⊠I donât know how to say the other part without really giving anything away.â
Ladybug pursed her lips and gave him time, either out of courtesy or because she was freaking out and incapable of speech.
âUm, itâs like⊠an occupational issue, I guess. I donât know if Iâd be allowed, in a sense. Then thereâs the issue that I know nearly nothing about dating,â he explained.
For all his vagueness, she fit his description enough. Sheâd never outright confessed to being in love with him, so he didnât know her feelings. Also they werenât really supposed to date with all their responsibilities, and wasnât that just part of their job as heroes? So for all intents and purposes, Chat Noir really could have been talking about her. The possibility made her head spin.
Her hope was strung on a tightrope; a precarious position that could go either way. She could ask him directly if he meant someone in his civilian life or if by some miracle he was talking about herâor she could stay on the precipice between disappointment and bliss. But for all her clumsiness, Marinette preferred balance whenever she could manage it. So she stayed her course, eyes far from looking down at the possibilities and instead on the objective: answer him.
âI havenât been on a real date recently, no.â
She looked for any hint about his feelings in his response, any indication that he was relieved or just pitied her. He simply nodded, leaving her clueless as she continued to walk the tightrope.
âSame,â he let out a whiny sigh. âI guess I canât really ask for advice then. Iâm terrible when it comes to romance.â
She traced one of her spots with a gloved finger, trying to keep a clear mind despite the slight relief that her crush wasnât out on dates all the time. âI doubt it. Youâre so amazing, youâd make any girl really happy and lucky to be with you.â Saying those words aloud had her face feeling as red as her suit.
âLuck is your department, LB,â he grinned. âI imagine admirers are chasing you left and right.â
âNot in any serious manner,â Adrienâs corny and outlandish attempts to get her attention came to mind. He was just a flirt by nature, hardly what someone would consider a real admirer. âI⊠Iâd be happy to go on a date with somebody who really liked me though.â
He gave her a thoughtful look that made her pause.
She stood up suddenly. âI mean, not just anybody! Like⊠if I knew they actually liked me, then I might give it a chance? Depending on the person.â
Chat Noir smiled again, patiently letting her ramble as usual.
She took a deep breath to collect herself. âIt doesnât matter how experienced you are with dating, at least thatâs what I think. If sheâs a nice person then sheâll also understand and youâll both get through it together. You just have to be yourself.â
âYouâre right as always, Little Lady,â he sighed. Her stomach did a flip at the soft sound of his voice. âYou know, you do give the best advice.â
Balance, she reminded herself. Tightrope.
But he spoke again, âI can always count on you to cheer me up if things go wrong, canât I?â
The words were kindâlike a soft breezeâwhich was just enough to throw off her careful, barely established balance; just enough information to tip her over to the fact that he must have been talking about some other girl if at the end of the day he could still find comfort in her, his partner.
And so she fell. Or, well, sheâd fallen for him a long time ago. What did she expect? Something happier, sheâd hoped. Something more similar to catching herself with her yo-yo, lifting back up to soar instead of her hopes tumbling down.
âLadybug?â
She took a second to glance down at the ground where her heart felt like it had dropped. From their high position on the Eiffel, it was a long way down. For how much she loved him, she wasnât sure just how her heart would break. Shatter like glass? Crumble to pieces? Or would it plummet and dent the floor because it certainly felt as heavy as lead when she turned to face Chat Noir, an achingly sweet melancholy painted on face as he smiled at her.
âOf course you can count on me. You and me against it all,â she assured, holding out her hand to help him up. It was time to go, after all.
He grinned as he stood, âEverything from akumas to heartbreak.â
She gave a weak laugh in reply. âGood night, Chat.â
âGood night, Little Lady.â

5s for your Cousland?đ
Essentials: 5. What do they specialize in within their class?
in the DAI/DA2 style where you can only choose one specialization, Cait is definitely an assassin! in DAO where they let you choose a few, she was assassin/duelist/shadow. basically, she's just very good at stabbing people
Life: 5. What religion were they born into? Do they still follow it?
she was raised Andrastian, as I imagine most nobles were, but I'd put her firmly in the "agnostic" camp. She believes Andraste existed, there's historical proof of that (plus she, y'know, found her ashes), but she isn't sure she believes that she was really the Maker's prophet, or even that the Maker really exists. but she does believe that faith can be a powerful thing on its own, so she's willing to give the benefit of the doubt
Life: 10. Have they ever been seriously injured? What was the outcome?
Caitie gets seriously injured a lot, actually. she's a rogue that thinks she's a warrior, and tends to throw herself head first into fights. good thing she knows so many competent healers. but two in particular stand out:
she almost died in the Landsmeet duel from blood loss. Loghain nicked an artery just above her elbow while attempting to disarm her. She still carries the scar from it (and so does he, because she returned the favor)
she also almost died to the Archdemon, but not in the traditional Grey-Warden-who-kills-the-archdemon way, more in a thrown-off-a-building-by-an-ancient-blighted-dragon way. she wasn't even conscious when Loghain killed it (though everyone still gives her credit for it. which she hates)
Party: 5. Did they do companion quests? What were the outcomes of those?
she did all her companions' quests (because I'm a completionist), and to mostly positive outcomes iirc. she tried to choose the peaceful solution as often as possible (though she did kill Flemeth. and Taliesen, but you don't have a choice there)
Codex: 5. How do they feel about darkspawn?
she doesn't really feel anything about them. she doesn't hate them for following their nature, she doesn't feel sorry for them. she was a little skeeved out by the broodmother, but mostly because of the circumstances surrounding her creation. she doesn't really feel anything about killing them either, it's just part of the job; they try to kill her, she tries to kill them first, may the best man win.
Codex: 10. Are there any animals they have a particular love or hatred for?
she loves her mabari, Byron. he's the bestest boy and fiercest Grey Warden that ever lived, obviously. she really, really hates giant spiders, but that's mostly due to the Overwhelm ability
Origins: 5. What did they think of Flemeth?
she hates Flemeth for the abuse Morrigan suffered at her hand, and for trying to manipulate her into lying to her friend. If she knew Flemeth was still alive, she'd hunt her down and kill her again
Origins: 10. What was their nightmare in the Fade during Broken Circle?
Cait was back home in Highever. Her family was dead, but they didn't seem to know that. They were all walking corpses, talking to her like nothing had ever happened.
Origins: 15. Who rules Orzammar, Bhelen or Harrowmont? How did your Warden make their decision?
Bhelen. Cait appreciates the changes he wants to make, especially those to the caste system and the way casteless are treated, and she isn't bothered by his ruthlessness or ambition
Origins: 20. How did they deal with Loghain?
she spared him and recruited him into the Grey Wardens. Cait's a practical woman, and knew more Wardens was better than less, and she doesn't have any illusions about the kind of people that the Wardens recruit or about what it means to become one. it's a death sentence the same as any other, it just takes a little longer
in two of her three "canons", she and Loghain become very close friends. in the third one, they become lovers and she eventually marries him. so, y'know, not the worst decision she's ever made ;)
Origins: 25. How did your Warden resolve Wardenâs Keep? Stone Prisoner? The Golems of Amgarrak?
oooh, it's been a while, let me see if I remember.
I know for Stone Prisoner, she recruited Shale and helped her regain her memories and they became friends. if Shale's in a good mood, she might even admit it
Warden's Keep, she killed Sophia Dryden and spared Avernus, let Avernus continue his research (but ethically), and I think she drank the blood potion thing. what's a little blood magic between friends?
I think I've only done Golems once because it was really fucking difficult, but I know I completed it and that I hate Harvesters so very, very much

Ohmygod YES Susan Pevensie is awesome please talk to me about Susan i want to know everything you have to say
Literally THANK YOU for asking me this bc Susan Pevensie is a character I never get asked about and I have So Many Opinions.
I'm going to start by saying that Susan used to be my least favorite character in the series. This goes for the books and the movies. Some of it was for personal reasons--she reminds me of a couple of annoying ppl I know irl--but it was also bc I watched Prince Caspian which shoehorned her into a relationship with Caspian which I hated.
HOWEVER. I ended up rethinking this position after interacting with Susan fans and realizing that there are so many wonderful things to love about her!
(putting under the cut bc this got long)
Things Ash Loves About Susan Pevensie
Aight I'm not going to do a formal analysis yet on her, but instead rant about some of the unrelated things I adore about Susan Pevensie.
Susan the Archer
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ae0e2a4e43dd36cb21b2af3929f86127/f294d044bb0c436d-52/s540x810/b23c49d1c8a3636525dda5acde09aa742e3f0bf9.jpg)
Look we all love archery here. I don't have anything more to say.
Okay, I actually do have more to say. I love the fact that Susan is a complete badass with the bow. You get the general impression that she's one of the royals in charge of public relations, traditions, foreign policy, etc. and yet she's the most competent archer in the series. One of the few things I liked about the movies is how they didn't downplay this. They actually let her be a badass and show off her skills.
Also the part where she kicks Trumpkin's ass was awesome.
Susan the Gentle
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/662320415fd8313183ab963582cbafbb/f294d044bb0c436d-ae/s540x810/1d5591513264898c5af1b130c6d0e93a6462cbe5.jpg)
Susan being the most passive Pevensie was something I definitely underappreciated as a teenager. I think my non-ability to see past "I'm not like other girls" narrative and the combination of Susan being described as the most traditionally feminine woman in the Narnia series is what initially turned me off from her.
HOWEVER, now it's one of my favorite attributes! I love that Susan is a badass and the most beautiful woman in Narnia. She has hair down to her feet, every man and woman in the kingdom want to fuck her, and she's still a fucking badass who will not hesitate to kick your ass.
Susan the Sister
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fcc979af11d134dfe65480f7fbd10df0/f294d044bb0c436d-e9/s540x810/16f9d4eff8d096378be256cbcdca9aae47224de1.jpg)
Most of my thoughts of Susan as an older sister mostly stem from my own personal headcanons, but she is an awesome sister to her siblings. She's Peter's voice of reason, Edmund's sass partner, and Lucy's big sister.
Susan the Mom-Friend
She is a literal mother-figure for Corin.
"[...] the most beautiful lady he had ever seen rose from her place and threw her arms round him and kissed him, saying: "Oh Corin, Corin, how could you? And thou and I such close friends ever since thy mother died. [...]"
-The Horse and His Boy, 33-34
Most everything I have to say about this ventures into headcanon territory, but I love the idea of Susan basically adopting Corin after his mom dies. The way she trusts Cor--who she thinks is Corin in this chapter--is really sweet and I wish we could've seen more of that relationship.
Susan the Flawed
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fac1d525715ab7eb68272e01662b3ff4/f294d044bb0c436d-50/s540x810/fbdca65780e9ff8f027ce8b5a7631c279146181f.jpg)
Something I notice from the fandom is a lot of people who hate Susan tend to because of her flaws. On the other hand, most Susan stans like to wave away these flaws and blame C.S. Lewis for being misogynistic or Aslan for being a "cruel god" and ignore the fact that she is a deeply flawed person.
Susan gets something of a "reverse redemption arc" in The Chronicles of Narnia. This makes her not only a fascinating foil to Edmund--as both are analytical, logical people--but an interesting character by herself.
She starts out in TWW as very skeptical of Narnia and it's whole deal and also very condescending to Lucy throughout. She ultimately does admit that Lucy was right and does get on board with the whole prophecy at the same time Peter does, and ends the book being crowned "the Gentle Queen."
In The Horse and His Boy, she has a very interesting dynamic with Edmund and in even more interesting relationship with Rabadash. They don't even interact on-page with each other, but it's highly implied that she was interested in him when he was a guest in Narnia. His behavior obviously changed when she visited him in Tashbaan, but you have to wonder what their dynamic was like before for her to travel all the way to his home when relations between the countries were strained at best.
Prince Caspian is where the cracks start showing through. Susan has lived an entire life as an adult in Narnia, gets thrown back to England with her siblings, and is yet again in Narnia as a child. This book is what really emphasizes her one fatal flaw: convenience.
(Put a pin in that thought, I'll get back to it.)
Susan denies once again that Lucy saw something that the rest of them can't seen. She continues this narrative until every other sibling finally acknowledges Lucy in the right and only then does she apologize.
The last mention of Susan is in The Last Battle, where all of her flaws rise up against her in the worst way possible. I have a lot of controversial opinions on this that I'm going to address later, but I just want to say that Susan's reverse-redemption arc is something I actually like about her.
(There is also evidence that Susan does get a full redemption arc, just as Edmund and Eustace did, but C.S. Lewis was pretty much done with The Chronicles of Narnia at the point and instead encouraged fans to write their own version of how that went down.)
Okay, back to convenience being Susan's fatal flaw. So the one thing that comes up time and time again in the series is that Susan is very focused on material comforts. I believe it's implied that she's vain, and it's canonical that her own personal comfort spurs her to make decisions.
"[...] I really believed it was him â he, I mean â yesterday. When he warned us not to go down to the fir wood. And I really believed it was him tonight, when you woke us up. I mean, deep down inside. Or I could have, if I'd let myself. But I just wanted to get out of the woods and â and â oh, I don't know [...]"
Prince Caspian, 81
Prince Caspian has the strongest examples of Susan doing this, but certainly there's evidence elsewhere. There are a lot of fans who are distressed by this, claiming that Aslan and the others are too hard on her and shouldn't judge.
Honestly, I like that she's written with this flaw. Not only is it very relatable--(my own personal comfort and convenience is something I highly prioritize too)--but it humanizes a character who otherwise is ridiculously op and basically the Helen of Troy of the series. It may sound like I'm using this as an excuse to rant, but I really wouldn't have her any other way.
Susan As Portrayed by Anna Popplewell
Movie!Susan is a fucking delight.
She's sarcastic and badass and awesome and I could spend hours heaping praise on Anna's acting and her portrayal of Susan, but I can already tell that this post is going to be long so, I'll just stop here.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cb6375dfb9a8642feb9cbb2e1f3ce154/f294d044bb0c436d-e8/s540x810/2cb45c60b8e478f74e6b3247226bcaaf9b7e8f4a.jpg)
(10/10 want to be stabbed by her tho.)
Personal Headcanons
Let's talk about my fanon thoughts. I have many.
Susan is Aro
There's canonical evidence for this! Susan is a character who is heavily pursued by suitors everywhere, and even lets herself be courted by many of them, but chooses not to settle down. Even when she gets back to England and is described as only having interest in parties and material things, boys aren't mentioned.
I like to think that in The Horse in His Boy Susan was interested in Rabadash at first because he was a brilliant conversationalist. Nothing she says about him implies romantic interest, before and after she realizes the truth of his intentions.
Susan and Edmund Were Best Friends
This might be my love for The Horse and His Boy showing itself, but I think Susan and Edmund were thrown into circumstances where they interacted the most with each other.
Edmund is the ruler in charge of politics. Susan is the ruler in charge of Cair Paravel's public image. I imagine they spent time as ambassadors to other countries and planning royal functions.
They're also the most level-headed and logical out of their siblings, so they probably found a lot in common.
Susan Fancast
I literally just said I loved Anna's potrayal of Susan's (and I love what they gave us of older Susan too in LWW!), but I read the books in 2008 and my parents didn't let me see the movies bc I was like...nine years old and they thought it would be too scary.
So I had to headcanon my own interpretations.
Queen Susan the Gentle:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/960c2ea3d0590e58ab79540cbeb34005/f294d044bb0c436d-2b/s540x810/181ca77cb083145b76a170146a0f860af100398e.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5fc6b861780f0db4a836adc03946f4f3/f294d044bb0c436d-93/s500x750/b22c0a54e9bd5b996d1964f5e4be79ef2c36ef5d.jpg)
For some reason Merlin wasn't too scary for me to watch and I fell in love with Katie McGrath in like. Two episodes so. (On an unrelated note, I also fancast Bradley James as Peter at the time.)
Anyway, fanon Susan is basically Morgana Pendragon pre-evil arc. Sassy as hell, hot as fuck, and can kick your ass.
Unpopular Opinions
Yeah, feel free to skip this part if having controversial fandom opinions is a deal breaker for you.
The Problem With Susan Isn't Actually A Problem
I'm about to start so much discourse in the Narnia fandom, but C.S. Lewis's choices with her in The Last Battle weren't misogynistic. Bear in mind, I'm not saying that all of his writing choices in the series were A++ or excusing away certain racist/sexiest bits, but it's honestly baffling to me that people are so up in arms over Susan's exclusion in the final book.
So the part that everyone loses their shit over is as follows:
"My sister Susan," answered Peter shortly and gravely, "is no longer a friend of Narnia."
"Yes," said Eustace, "and whenever you've tried to get her to come and talk about Narnia or do anything about Narnia, she says 'What wonderful memories you have! Fancy your still thinking about all those funny games we used to play when we were children.'"
"Oh Susan!" said Jill, "she's interested in nothing now-a-days except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grown-up."
"Grown-up, indeed," said the Lady Polly. "I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she'll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one's life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can."
The Last Battle, 83-84
There's a lot to unpack here and I first want to say that everyone's opinion on this part, no matter how different than mine, is valid. I'm going to be quoting some other ppl's opinions on here and by no means am I bashing them. I just want to address my feelings on the matter and the best way to do that is to cite the thoughts of ppl who have opposing ideas.
Here are some arguments on Tumblr I've heard regarding "The Problem of Susan":
"How about we talk about what might have happened if Narnia hadn't deserted Susan? [...] What if we didn't tell Susan she had to go grow up in her own world and then shame and punish her for doing just that? She was told to walk away and she went. She did not try to stay a child all her life, wishing for something she had been told she couldn't have again."
"Narnia is filled with metaphors (often not very subtle ones) that are supposed to teach us how to be, and the most glaring one for any young girl to absorb is that it's okay to be a girl like Lucy, unthreatening and cheerful and valiant and faithful, but to be a girl like Susan gets you punished - in fact, you aren't just punished, you're destroyed."
"why do we call it âthe problemâ whereâs the problem about a young woman dealing with her trauma and choosing her own path, actively making the choice to keep living and to stay and to carve a life out in England when her siblings couldnât? what is the problem about susan forgetting to somehow cope with what sheâs experienced? why is it âthe problem of susanâ that she recontextualised her faith?"
And then there's JK Rowling who said this:
There comes a point where Susan, who was the older girl, is lost to Narnia because she becomes interested in lipstick. She's become irreligious basically because she found sex. I have a big problem with that.
It's weird how I'm still finding new ways to hate JKR in the year 2021. Again, there is absolutely zero implication that Susan had sex when she came back to England. ZERO. Did she actually read the books? IDK. If someone shares this opinion pls reply with actual canonical evidence.
Back on topic, I'm a firm believer of death of the author and interpreting art via your own experiences. Which is why I'm also going to share my own interpretation by saying y'all are wrong.
Susan Pevensie was not abandoned by Narnia. She was not barred from Narnia because she is traditionally feminine or because she "owned her sexuality" (another opinion I didn't have time to condense down for this post) or because she recontextualized her faith or even because she deserved to be punished.
I also fail to see how Susan recontexualized her faith, as the entire point of it all is that she has none. Bringing this back to Susan's fatal flaw (personal convenience/material comforts), her prioritizing herself over her own faith is the reason she is "no longer a friend of Narnia." Not...whatever fanon y'all are imposing on her character.
Susan is not being punished for liking lipstick and looking pretty. Susan's not even being punished. Y'all read Neil Gaiman's The Problem of Susan and forgot it wasn't canon.
There are many reasons Susan is not in Aslan's Country (one of them being that she's not actually dead yet), but the main one has to do with this:
"[...] But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.â
Voyage of the Dawn Treader, 215-216
Yeah, okay that's why Susan is no longer a friend of Narnia. The implication when the Pevensies are told that they can no longer enter Narnia is that they are to find Aslan in other places. Susan doesn't do this, instead choosing to focus her life on material things. It isn't the lipstick, it's that she only wants the lipstick.
Susan Had Sex In The Books
Oh and not in the context y'all are thinking. (Again, there are no implications that Susan was barred from Narnia for having sex or that she had sex when she came back to England.)
So there's actual canonical evidence that Susan and Rabadash had a sexual relationship. Sort of.
"What think you? We have been in this city fully three weeks. Have you yet settled in your mind whether you will marry this dark-faced lover of yours, this Prince Rabadash, or no?"
-The Horse and His Boy, 35
Edmund calls Rabadash her lover. Not her suitor. I don't know if the word had a different meaning in 1954, but it feels like C.S. Lewis is saying that they're fucking. I'm not really happy with the idea of Susan sleeping with an abuser, but really proud of her for Getting Some as a woman born in a time period where having premarital sex was a big no-no.
This also invalidates the weird opinion going on that Susan was barred from Narnia because she had sex.
Suspian Is The Worst
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/688fb349f1471c132508ae00f7b5735b/f294d044bb0c436d-6f/s500x750/a63f50bc893d985b1621066eabb3c6ccd0882720.jpg)
I haven't really talked about Movie!Susan much, but as long as we're talking unpopular opinions, it's worth noting that I hate Suspian. Some of it is the "Susan is Aro" headcanon screaming inside of me, but it's also the fact that it's written poorly, does nothing interesting for either character and generally comes across as awkward.
I feel like they were trying to make Prince Caspian sexy and relevant to teens. It came across as super heteronormative and unnecessary.
It also gets really really weird bc the next movie then gives Caspian and Edmund mad chemistry and we're all just like........ok.
Final Thoughts
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9f0af0561874fabd216cee5dda7e586c/f294d044bb0c436d-3a/s540x810/59988fae8942a925b6f283b8f93eac2cae19b150.jpg)
Susan may not be my favorite character in the series, but she's grown on me over the years. I have many issues with fanon interpretations of her--which definately fueled some of my disdain for her initally--and I don't identify as a Susan Apologist.
I do however adore Susan and have many headcanons for her not mentioned here. I love reading fanfic, writing fanfic and meta, and generally having conversations about her and would love to talk more about it.
I welcome criticism (CONSTRUCTIVE) and conversation on all of my opinions and observations. Please drop into my inbox. <3
