I know i’ve said it before. But this discourse about the ethics regarding taylor swift being a billionaire are so disingenuous. She doesn’t have a makeup line, clothing line, brand endorsements.
The bulk of her income is entirely from her own talent as a musician. She has not exploited anyone. She’s also not even close to being a cash billionaire when you look at the numbers it’s like half of that ( bc it’s hard to become a billionaire without shady shit) . Taylor is known to pay her employees well. By percentage what she gives away to charity and compensates her team with is unheard of. She gave 10% of her net worth away in bonuses to everyone who worked on her tour. That’s just what we know of.
I’m not even saying this as a fan, but you cannot look at someone like her and how she moves and compare that to other billionaires and oligarchs.
I’m all for wealthy people paying their fair share. I hate capitalism and the current system but I do think she’s a good example of doing the best to be ethical within the current system
#I’m not even shading other music stars who have side hustles but she is truly just making art#Forbes should put her on a separate page bc I don’t want her next to awful people#she’s also not even a cash billionaire or even close#bc yes it’s actually very hard to be a billionaire#celebrity brands are also nothing compared to mega corporations#the only grey area is merch but that’s controlled by umg and the practices are no different than any other UMG artist#she never even announces whe she makes a massive donation but by percentage of wealth given it’s very unusual#she has been known for taking care of her team and paying above rate for years#like you can have issues with a system that doesn’t tax wealthy folks but Taylor swift isn’t even up there in terms of ultra wealthy#I know she used to have some endorsements but that was decades ago and not a factor here#im not even saying this as a fan of hers like the way she moves as a wealthy person is not at all comparable to ‘ billionaires’#I’m not a fan of capitalism but I think she’s a good example of operating as ethically as possible within the current system#$400m is just the value of her music catalogue#again big difference between her wealth that she’s actually earned and bezos musk and Zuckerberg types#she’s just producing art that people can obtain for free

my problem with how some folks view the "sibling-like friends" thing in scorn is that y'all view it as "emotional caretaker and younger sibling" and not "Friends who are so close that they may as well have been cut from the same cloth, share the same soul, and it's wild how they haven't known each other their whole lives, so they may as well be family" which is how it tends to go in real life, at least in my experience

it can be annoying to hear people say 'things will get better' when you literally know they won't and it's quite impossible for them to be in fact. but i get it. its hard to find any actual words of comfort when everything and every possible aspect of life is genuinely horrifically bad beyond belief. empty platitudes of 'we need to live because things will get better' are all we can have bc we cant actually stand up and risk our lives for change

the idea that Orym has a death wish has led to some of the most laughable meta I've seen. Orym tells his closest friend - who has a penchant for delightfully wild impulses, is possibly important to the enemy's plot, and is about to see her biological father, about whom she has all kinds of complicated feelings - to not take unnecessary risks and people are handing out pamphlets on "a Treatise on Orym's Belief in Doom; Being an Account of His Deep-seated Hypocritical Actions Regarding The Pact With Morrigan, Hag and Fatestitcher" and it's like. idk man maybe they're going to be separated in a very clearly dangerous scenario and she specifically is in an emotionally charged and tricky one and he is saying "be careful", a normal thing friends might say to each other.

People criticize the Itachi reveal often because I think they have it in their heads that the Uchiha somehow had a chance of survival in a war, when Kishimoto intentionally shows us that the Uchiha failed a war before to a much less powerful and all encompassing opponent. Because the Uchiha aren’t built for war, they are built for love. Itachi made the only decision he could that would guarantee the life of Sasuke Uchiha would be spared. The point of Sasukes character is that he was always loved. His path of darkness does not exist. His revenge is not against a random act of cruelty on him, isolate him, victimized because he is unloved, but a battle for a bloodline that was declared dead the moment Madara conceded. The Itachi reveal is not to “redeem” Itachi its to let us know that the core of Sasukes character was never darkness, but love.

What I like about Fear and Hunger is that it presents us with the question of “Is it worth it to sacrifice an innocent for the greater good?” and then shows us the answer of “Yeah...lmao jk it’s actually not”

I've been watching tons of videos of speeches from serial killers, cult leaders, (confirmed) psychopaths etc today and Tobias does plenty of the subtle things they do, from tone and phrasing to body language. It makes it x100 scarier for me to then look at how Tobias has made every single person he's come across like him to some degree or another, sometimes simply by existing and other times by tailoring his manipulation strategies to their psyche

Doesn't matter that they don't trust people. Tobias eventually ALWAYS manages#to make them trust and/or like him (<-depending on what he wants to gain from them afterwards). A degree of fondness is always present#(Yk that 'ugh you're so annoying but something would be missing from my life w/o you here' kind of fondness... yeah Tobias' specialty)#Sometimes he wants both their trust and their favorable opinion. Other times he only needs one & stops after he obtains it#But to watch these kinds of videos & have Tobias in the back of my mind pointing out in EACH speech what the abuser did wrong#and what HE would have done to correct it/make it better; makes me shudder in the knowledge that he's right & he DOES do it better#That said watching these speeches has also made me realize that he's Intentionally not doing certain things that those criminals did#in the sense of body language. Half of the clues you'd get in THEM; /Tobias/ doesn't do bc he Knows people might look out for those#Either way I'm still watching some bc this is simultaneously terrible and intriguing but like 😭 I was thinking about how many#kinds of people Tobias has met on here & ALL of them have some sort of soft spot for him or another; EVEN the ones with the most#barriers known to man. Like Ash for example having a crush on this guy is killing me bc yes Tobias DOES genuinely like Ash#but everything he's done to /gain/ Ash's trust and care was planned.
