"welcome to america" by lecrae is the closest a mainstream christian musician can get to anarchist christian/socialist christian/communist christian without people noticing because they're just grooving to lecrae's masterful flows and the epic beats and "this couldn't happen to me" etc etc etc
#christianity tag#progressive christianity#anarchist christianity#christian anarchism#socialist christianity#christian socialism#communist christianity#christian communism#christian music tag#my beliefs#and yes the song both slaps REALLY hard: lecrae has pulled his flows from experts in the genre i.e. jay z de la soul etc#but he's got his own voice his own sound his own sense of rhythm and flow that other rappers (especially other christian rappers) don't hav#i believe he had a track with andy mineo off of andy mineo's last album where they both wear their rap influences on their sleeves#iirc their influences are: 8ball and mjg which my white ass was too young and too sheltered to listened to as a christian#slick rick (who i've heard of) and doug e. fresh & the get fresh crew#megan thee stallion (which i'm genuinely surprised but. damn good taste lecrae + andy mineo. she's one of the best mainstream rappers)#oh and beastie boys surprisingly. and from lecrae's side too lol#i'm genuinely surprised at all their unique influences but yet somehow lecrae and mineo (both what i'd call conscious rappers)#(as well as the nebulous label of 'christian rappers') don't seem to have much conscious rap influence#which is genuinely both surprising and not surprising on lecrae's part#because i DO see a bit of 80s-90s gangsta rap influence in lecrae esp. in describing grittiness in american hoods and stuff#but i see a lot of conscious rap 'i want to solve these problems' type influence like say...de la soul doechii kendrick lamar#iirc he is influenced by kendrick and kendrick IS influenced by him (kendrick shouted him out on a verse in a new song)#(and lecrae wrote a genuinely heartfelt response song to that song)#but like...i'm genuinely surprised by the lack of conscious rap i.e. lauryn hill late tlc a tribe called quest panacea type influences#like. regarding nineties stuff he could've been listening to as a teen#to be fair panacea is a rather obscure dc band and i do not remember where lecrae lived in childhood. so he might have not grown up with th

@heckofabecca tagged me in a meme to just list five songs on regular play and tag ten of my favorite followers! Thanks, Becca :)
I thought I'd mix things up a bit and go with my Obscurify data, which says my top five songs are:
Who Wants To Live Forever | Queen
Nevertheless, She Persisted | Audiomachine
Pompeii MMXXIII | Hans Zimmer and Bastille
Frostpunk Theme | Piotr Musiał
Mass Effect Theme | Jack Wall, Sam Hulick
I'm not super surprised, because I think "Who Wants To Live Forever" is one of the most beautiful rock songs ever and certainly one of the most beautiful by Queen (my favorite band!) and it's forever linked in my mind to my most beloved canon Tolkien ship, Aegnor/Andreth.
And I often listen to instrumentals or at least "epic" style tracks when I'm stressed or want to write in something other than silence, so I spend a lot of my music-listening time with groups like Audiomachine, video game soundtracks or covers of themes, that kind of thing. The atmosphere of "Nevertheless, She Persisted" in particular is perfect for a specific story project, so I've listened to it most of all! If I excluded background tracks for writing to, though, and just went with songs with lyrics I actively listen to, the final list would be:
Who Wants To Live Forever | Queen
Black Velvet | Alannah Myles
Under Pressure | Queen and David Bowie
This Is Who You Are | Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Love | Lana del Rey
Tagging: @ladytharen, @grumpyfaceurn, @irresistible-revolution, @inkandcayenne, @incognitajones, @kazaera, @lantur, @melyzard, @nanyoky, @ncfan-1, @nelayn, @liz-squids, @scholarlyhobbit, @sqbr, @steinbecks, @venndaai (wait, that's more than 10... anyway)

also a while back i asked what bands or singers or whatever (can't remember the specifics) the ycyd boys listened to and you said you'd answer in the morning but then you never answered
I was looking at my music and stuff I listen to and realized like. I don’t know enough to find stuff they would like. Brian and Tim like country, I only listen to Orville peck and some random blue grass. I’m sure Brian likes Orville and Tim has a crush on him (big masked man who’s sweet…..) but he’s not super into the music. Tim obviously likes the annoying dad rock, like he loves Pink Floyd, Queen, Radiohead, stone temple pilots, shit like that. I also think he’d like neutral milk hotel and Belle and Sebastian.
Now Toby. I don’t see Toby as a picky music guy. He will listen to anything. Cannibal corpse jusr for fun and because it makes Brian overstimulated and annoyed . Probablt likes hyper pop. Likes shitty bands like Xiu Xiu and listens to stupid bands that have stupid names like “elephant trunk rape fest” because he thinks it’s funny.
I also think Brian would like atmospheric music like the care taker that is so boring and nothing happens for like 10 minutes but it’s part of the ambiance and every song is 20 minutes .

It’s kind of weird like… how much emphasis is put on liking “obscure music” and “obscure genres”. Like idk that doesn’t make you cooler than anyone and I think calling other people basic for liking pop or other popular genres is honestly weird

Recommend me (through an ask) an obscure song (of any genre that is not popular, pls no pop songs) that you find well written and complex and are obsessed with because the instrumental is *chefs kiss*

had the thought of making a pretentious "ohh, you wouldn't know them" playlist (as a joke) with all my MOST obscure music but then I realized that it would serve very little purpose because my music taste already leans heavily obscure for my surroundings...

in my experience mfs who say they "listen to anything" will not have heard of any artist with less than 20 million listeners on spotify
