As Teenagers:

✧ Obito was a very charming boy around you after he had warmed up to the idea of you staying on his team for the rest of your lives. You had now become the light of his day, completely replacing Rin. It was ironic how the last thing he wanted to happen was actually the first thing he’d come to love. Sure, he missed Rin, but you were there now. He surrounds you with his presence and surrounds himself around you at all times. That means that his pictures of Rin he had so dearly kept up in his room were suddenly taken down and replaced by your lovely face. If you compared the amount of pictures he had of Rin with the ones he has of you now, you definitely win. Apart from completely revolving his life around you, he makes sure to always be there for you; asking how you are, if you need anything, if you ate, etc. He wants you to enjoy his presence as much as he loves yours, and he wants you to feel loved by him. He doesn’t hide his growing crush, and it makes a certain silver haired boy boil inside. 

✧ Kakashi gets fed up with Obito easily, as always, but when it comes to you, he can’t help but let his mouth move on his own. He always tries to embarrass Obito in front of you, and make himself seem better than his friend. Although you quickly shut Kakashi off and tell him that what he had just said wasn’t nice, he rolls his eyes and mutters a small apology just so you’re not mad at him. Thankfully, you never stay mad at him for too long, which he deeply appreciates. Like how he appreciates how naïve you are sometimes, because he loves to lie. He had never lied before, but once his feelings for you began to blossom, it became a habit of his. It started off as a small, harmless lie. When you asked him if he had seen your lovely bracelet that Obito had gifted you, he said no, while stuffing his hands in his pockets nonchalantly. Your disappointed frown made him slightly smile as he clutched that stupid bracelet of yours. He could always give you a new one. From then on, he began to lie more constantly, and he couldn’t stop himself from doing so. He lied to keep you interested in him, or to make you look for him. He liked when you needed his help, and he wasn’t shy to sabotage a few things just so you asked him for help. 

✧ Both Kakashi and Obito knew that they were in love with you. They hadn't mentioned it to each other, but it was pretty obvious for the both of them. At first, they didn’t mention anything about it, but as they fought for your attention, it became obvious they needed to get this sorted out. At least, that’s what Kakashi thought. The boy knew Obito wouldn't be very flexible with you, considering how possessive he was, but once he caught said boy pressing his lips onto a framed picture of you while he passed by his house, he found that as the perfect opportunity to either blackmail him or make a pact. “If you don’t want (Y/N) to think you’re a total freak, then you’ll listen to what I have to say,” Kakashi’s threat made Obito sit still and quiet. There was no way he could live with himself if you ever thought he was a weirdo! So, with much irritation, he hesitantly listened to what his rival had to say. Kakashi explained that he knew Obito had feelings for you, and unfortunately, he did too. Of course, Obito wanted to speak and argue, but Kakashi shut him off immediately. “Let’s make a deal. We don’t have to fight over her. On the contrary, let’s work together. It’s obvious you want to keep her safe just as much as I do, and I don’t want her to end up like Rin,” The mention of Rin made Obito tense. At the end of their talk, they decided to put their rivalry aside when it came to you. They trusted each other enough to ‘share’, and they were very selfish kids, so that was surprising. 

✧ The boys spend all their time with you. They are there at your beck and call, and you’re glad they’re there for you! You don’t really notice how they’re unnaturally obsessed with you, so you allow weird things to happen from time to time. Like how you let them pick you up and take you home everyday. How you take food or drinks from them, never questioning if they had anything in them, because they couldn’t possibly ever put anything in your food, right? They don’t really show their weird tendencies flat out, since they’re still in denial that they’re actually doing anything wrong. They simply liked you. That’s all. This was a simple crush they developed, nothing else. It wasn’t weird that the only thing they could think about at night was you. How you would take care of them, heal them, help them, feed them. How you were so nice and gentle when it came to them. How they would try to think of different ways to make you smile, because it was the only thing they were looking forward to in the day. Your smile was contagious to them, intoxicating even. To young boys like them, this was completely normal. The most in denial was Kakashi, but to be honest, he was the one who’d act out on his impulses. As stated before, Kakashi would be willing to lie just to get you on his side. If he didn’t like someone, he’d start telling you how bad of a friend that person was because “I heard them making fun of you”. Of all people you would expect to lie, you never thought Kakashi would be one of them. So, you believed Kakashi, and cut ties with a lot of kids because of him. This was a big victory for him, because now you would look for him even more. You invited him to eat, walk, and train. Sure, you would ask Kakashi if Obito would like to go too, but his answer was always “I don’t know, I think he’s out training again with one of his clan members. Let’s just go, just the two of us,” Apart from slowly becoming a pathological liar, he also made sure to go with you everywhere, whenever he could, of course. That includes when you’re not looking. You would complain about feeling watched sometimes, and he’d try to brush your concerns off by saying “Maybe you’re being paranoid. Maybe you’re used to Obito and I walking you home that it feels weird when you don’t,” 

✧ Speaking of acting on impulses, Obito had become a little self aware that his love for you was becoming dangerously weird. Despite Kakashi being in denial, Obito knew that it wasn’t normal to think about you as if he had to. He needed to know what you were doing as much as he needed to eat, sleep, and breathe. He even felt a little guilty, in contrast to Kakashi. He felt so guilty the first time he stole from you. It was a simple hair tie you always kept around your wrist even if you never wore it. You had used it as some sort of bracelet. As he got home and pulled it out of his pocket, his heart dropped to his stomach as his eyes scanned the tie. Shame ran through his body as blood rushed to his cheeks. He couldn’t believe it. He just stole from you! He was such a freak! He considered giving it back and apologizing, but he couldn’t do that! Then you would totally think he’s sick! So he decided to keep it. He promised himself he would never steal from you ever again. He doesn’t steal. He was a good kid! But, you never know where you might end up in life, and he found himself taking other things from you. Everytime he stole, he felt like a total thief, and he was. The guilt would consume him, but his desires were satisfied. So, he stole and stole and stole until stealing small things from you wasn’t enough. He was left unsatisfied, even if he had a drawer dedicated to placing all of the things he had stolen from you.

As Young Adults:

✧ Now the three of you were older, and had matured! Both Kakashi and Obito grew taller and bulkier, making them attractive young men. Meanwhile, you had also grown and developed in every way. Your personality, your face, your body. Everything changed in ways that satisfied them. To them, you were even more gorgeous than before, and they hoped you thought they were attractive as well. You see, despite them obviously crushing on you, nothing really happened throughout the years. You still considered them friends, and showed no sign of romantic interest in them, much to their dismay. However, that doesn’t mean they stopped obsessing over you. On the contrary, it only fueled their desires. Kakashi had grown an interest in very… detailed literature. The ones you wouldn’t really let children read. His desires developed and changed as he grew, and as he entered adulthood, he found himself thinking of perverted fantasies involving you. He didn’t mean to, but his mind couldn’t help wonder off on how your breast grew a little more, or how your hips became wider. He didn’t really feel guilty about it either. He told himself these fantasies and thoughts were normal for hormonal men like him. His eyes would wander on your body a little longer than usual, and when you noticed him looking at you, he would simply smile and tell you how you haven’t changed a bit. But you had. And he loved it. Now that you weren’t kids, you didn’t need them walking you home anymore. You didn’t need him to watch over you, and you were now getting missions that didn’t involve them. Although it disappointed both of them, they tried to keep their calm. Obito would think about following you while you were out on a mission, but he never did it. He considered it an insult to your skill. You were strong enough to protect yourself, right? Kakashi, on the other hand, didn’t care. He followed you on your mission to keep a close eye on you. You were weaker than him, therefore, you needed his protection. The best part was that you never noticed him. He found it to be a win-win for all parties involved, that being you and him. 

✧ Kakashi wasn’t the only one with perverted fantasies, because Obito found himself waking up with a red face and sweat on his forehead while thinking back on the dream he just had about you. He’d be blushing the whole day while being with you, and when you’d ask him what was up, he’d brush it off saying it was just hot outside. What a big lie. Thanks to those dreams, he found himself sitting on the edge of his bed, hand clutching onto a piece of clothing he had slipped into his pocket the day you invited him and Kakashi to your house for your birthday. He felt disgusted at the fact he felt so aroused with you. That the simple faint scent of your perfume intoxicated him. The thought of owning your clothes without your consent drove him insane, much more than he already was. And the fact that he was holding the fabric close to his nose as his pants felt tight and uncomfortable had him questioning what he was doing. He asked himself why he acted this way, but made no effort into putting a stop to it as his hands fumbled with his belt to find peace from the heat and tension building up in his body. His thoughts would wonder what it would be like if it wasn’t your clothes he was holding, but it was you yourself. What would it feel like to have you sitting on his lap, holding onto his shoulders for dear life while you enjoyed how he made you feel? He had no idea how he could look at you in the eyes the next morning after a night full of dirty fantasies.

✧ Obito and Kakashi had also developed jealous tendencies that would annoy you at times. It was hard to deny that they liked you, at least a little more than just friends. And you didn’t mind it. You had also developed strong feelings for them, but that didn’t mean they could act as if they were your boyfriends when they weren’t. You hated the way you couldn’t talk to a guy because Kakashi would suddenly pop out of nowhere to try and slip you away from the guy. It annoyed you even more when he would start trying to insult the guy—not directly, but he would throw sarcastic and degrading comments just to see the guy’s confidence crumble. God forbid Obito ever sees you flirt with a dude either. He was even worse than Kakashi. When you mention how they should stop treating you as their girlfriend, they simply told you you were taking things out of proportions and how “The guy had been with half the village girls already,” They could stop if you wanted, but they were just being good ‘friends’. They were guys and they knew what their intentions were. You needed to believe them, but if you didn’t, that’s fine. If you wouldn’t stop talking to the guy, then the guy would just need to stop talking to you. Kakashi would make sure of it. And when you did come crying to them, saying how the guy was just a total joke and that they were right, they wasted no time in being by your side, “See? You needed to trust us. We told you,”, “At this point, the only guys you need in your life are us,” Maybe they were right. 

✧ Kakashi was the one that took care of all your personal connections. He decided who you kept in your life, and who would need to leave immediately. Obito, on the other hand, took care of your emotional state. Whatever Kakashi did, it would leave you in shambles, and Obito would be there to pick up the pieces. He was well aware of what Kakashi was doing behind the scenes, I mean they both agreed on it. Obito wasn’t innocent, and you didn’t know that the two men you trusted with your whole life, were actually the ones ruining it. Speaking of ruining, you seemed to be stuck in the same rank rank ever since you became a chunin. Both Kakashi and Obito had ranked up and were currently Jonin, but you were still a chunin. You wondered why, because you were doing everything right. All your missions were completed and well executed, yet you still made no progress. You even asked the Hokage, your former teacher, why you hadn’t ranked up yet. “I’m sorry (Y/N), you're just not ready yet,” he’d tell you, making you storm off angrily out of his office. To you, your missions were perfectly executed, but the anonymous reports that would reach Minato were completely different to what actually happened. They would absolutely botch your hard work and explain how you made many rookie mistakes that belonged to a genin more than a chunin. Maybe you weren’t cut out for this. Maybe you were better working at the hospital than the field. This was highly supported by Kakashi and Obito as well “You’re one of the best medical nin I’ve seen! You should put your skills to work,” Obito would say, trying to motivate you to drop trying to complete missions outside. 

✧ Let it be known that if you ever choose one of them, no you won’t. If it’s one of them, it’s both of them. They agreed on this. They both had a ‘right’ to you, so you couldn’t just choose one of them and leave the other. They had always shared you as teenagers, there was no way that would change now. They were insufferable, and they weren’t even in a relationship with you, imagine what it would be like if you actually dated them. Time was running out, and their patience was running thin. They had waited so many years for you to make up your mind, they couldn’t wait more. The more they fantasized about you, the more they craved you. Kakashi needed you to hold him, Obito needed to hold you. They needed you in every way of the word. They needed you in mind, body, and soul. They need you, and they would do anything to have you.

I think I was late and lost my first took when I was almost seven and idk exactly when Sakumo died officially but. Idk. Something something the tragedy of potentially not even having a parent around to explain what is going on when you lose a tooth for the first time

Kid Kakashi struggling through starting to lose his baby teeth after his father dies <33

Google tells me that children start losing their baby teeth around 6, and the general age I've seen for Kakashi when Sakumo kills himself is usually around that same number, so, it works out!!

You bring up such a good and fun point actually in just. Does Kakashi know what's happening to him? Has anyone explained to him that your teeth just naturally fall out when you're little?

One day, Kakashi goes to class and sees Obito, who's a few years older than him, bragging about how he "just lost my tooth the other day"

And Kakashi quietly goes to himself, "wow this guy is so bad at fighting, he got his tooth knocked out and he's happy about it. What a weirdo."

Obito is IGNORING the judgmental stares coming from Kakashi's direction, assuming Kakashi is just jealous of his super cool milestone of growing up

Thinking maybe Obito even comes over to try to brag about it, but Kakashi just goes "??? Why are you bragging about losing your teeth ??? God, you're such a freak"

And Obito is like, "I know ur just jealous BAKASHI. Because you are still a BABY while I am on my way to being a MAN"

And inside Kakashi, still deeply confused and weirded out, is like, 'why the fuck would I be jealous' but outloud he just glares and goes, "I've never lost any of my teeth because I never lose."

To which Obito loses his mind because he's like 9 and to a 9 year old that sounded kind of sick and how DARE Kakashi try and be cool about this

(In the background, Minato is well on his way to losing his mind trying not to laugh. Rin meanwhile is squinting and doing mental math as she tries to tell if Kakashi is joking or not)

But anyways like. Kakashi later losing his own teeth and freaking the fuck out about it. Is he sick? Is he dying? Should he go to the doctor?

Oh my god wait ok but Kakashi cornering Rin after a training session and demands she help diagnose him bc he doesn't want to go to the actual doctor or ask Sensei for help. And Kakashi admitting she's a "good med nin" and Rin is kinda going omg Kakashi conpliment,,,, life goals,,

But also like Kakashi thinks he's dying and she's SUPER flattered he thinks she can help but she's like. 10. And a med nin in training.

So she's kind of sweating like "omg what are ur symptoms, why do u think ur dying?"

And Kakashi is like my "fucking teeth are falling out !!!!!!"

And Rin is like "woah that sounds super scary and seriou— Hold on a second."

Kakashi goes as far as to take off his mask to show her, which goes to show how desperate he is rn because he'd usually never do that.

And Rin is torn between being tempted to pinch his cheek and pull at it like it's Mochi and also like. She's struggling SO hard not to laugh at this point because she knows if she does Kakashi will literally never forgive her

So Rin has to break it to Kakashi as gently as she can (and without laughing or cooing at his cute kid naivety) that don't worry, you aren't dying, this is normal

Kakashi doesn't believe her at first. But when he does he's suddenly overwhelmed by embarrassment. He will never recover. Hes so fucking glad he didn't actually go to the doctor or to sensei because at least Rin he can swear to secrecy FOREVER

Kakashi has to deal with his suddenly too big for his mouth adult fangs and keeps going to Rin to help heal the cuts they keep leaving on his lips ,,,,

Somehow Obito catches wind of this, and hears "Rin + helping with Kakashi's lips (???)" And thinks they're kissing and loses his goddamn mind in spectacular fashion.

You can copy pasted this exact concept onto Naruto for a really funny (and kind of awful) au where Naruto loses his first tooth and becomes convinced he's dying

He does actually try to go to the hospital but they try to turn him away, but when he blurts out that he's scared he's dying a particularly mean spirited doctor pretends to examine him then goes "oh no. You really are dying and have a week to live. Boohoo."

Naruto loses his fucking mind and makes a "things I want to do before I die" bucket list and then spends the next week desperatley trying to complete it bc hes convinced he's gonna die on the final day

This list includes but is not limited to:

- become Hokage

- start a family

- eat every single different kind of ramen on Ichiraku's menu

Idk how to make the first and third especially funny but like.

"Starting a family" ending up somehow leading to Naruto very aggressively trying to get literally anyone to hold his hand in a similar fashion to "Uchiha Sasuke's 10 step plan to get revenge" where Sasuke tries to get Shikamaru to marry him in his quest to "live a good life" to get revenge on Itachi, while Naruto hears Sasuke is looking for a husband and very loudly tries to get him to pick him instead

Which is actually a really fucking funny one on its own and now I'm just thinking about that instead, so I'll leave this post here

Had a dream today and I'm evolving it as I go here

The main idea that Rin didn't die when she tried to unalive herself by Kakashi's hand, but Obito was already traumatized and got in with Madara's Moon Eye plan. So yada-yada, she's the jinchuriki of Sanbi. BUT the difference was that she decided to come out of the closet (a real tight one cuz of her clan but she almost just DIED what to regret now) that she's actually a guy. So FTM Rin guys. Rin is he/him from now on.

He wouldn't change his personality and crush on Kakashi much. Dude is a medic, have you met medics? My extended family has a lot of medics in ER and other and let me tell you, they're ruthless and give 0 fucks.

Oh and since he's a medic he has top notch access to remove his own boobs and change his hormones fucking manually.

I think he would rethink his crush on Kakashi, like, man, he's a loser, plus it's hard to crush on someone who you thought killed you (even tho you made him) AND Kakashi has doomed love with 'dead' Obito and it's a bummer.

Idk about his name tho, he probably would change it just to, unknowingly, create more confusion for poor Obito, who is SURE that Rin is dead-dead and fucking Konoha didn't even made a grave for her and Kakashi doesn't even VISIT.

Madara and Zetsu obviously don't tell him about his development. They don't need him to have a hope in this world again.

Kakashi is just glad that he didn't kill his teammate and maybe they connect better since "Rin" (listen i NEED a name for him, but i have 0 ideas about meaning or what ever. maybe he'd take something to honor Obito's memory?) doesn't crush on him anymore and maybe he's trans too?? idk about it yet but he might act warmer to "Rin" now.

So Obito is just confused, like WHO is this dude from Nohara clan who is now with Kakashi ALL the time (they're still best friends). He doesn't connect that this brown haired (!) medic (!!) from Nohara clan (!!!) with the same marks (!!!) same age as them (!!!!!) might be Rin. like no, nope, Rin a nice gentle lady, not this smoking dude who yells at Kakashi and curses at him cuz he run away from hospital again.

So yeah Obito is just not impressed. But intrigued. And jealous. He stalks Kakashi AND this guy all the time. May develop a crush on both, cuz "Rin" is still the same at his core.

Kakashi would still go in ANBU cuz Minato asked him (still not sure about it, like yeah lets put deeply traumatized 13 yo in assasin squad good job) and stuff.

So idk how canon would go from there, like i doubt that Minato would let 14 yo jinchuriki near another one at this tense situation, even tho "Rin" could've help.

So yeah Kushiha and Minato die, "Rin" barely holds onto the Sanbi but Obito finds out that the guy is holding them. He doesn't connects the dots. Or he does? His mind just CAN'T hold on to the fact that his Rin MIGHT survived.

But maybe "Rin" was closer to the place where they sealed Kuubi in Naruto (maybe he ran there cuz there's Kuubi rampaging and he HAS to help) so Minato entrusted Naruto to him, not to fucking Sandaime.

So yeah, now "Rin" is Naruto's legal dad at the age of 14 and no one can fucking take him away cuz a) it was Minato's dying wish; and b) just fucking TRY to peer "Rin" away from Naruto, you'll get your hand bitten off and NO arguments work, cuz "Rin", who was trained by Kushina in jinchuriki stuff, can make some sort of turtle shield and he hides in it with his new baby and no one can do anything.

And no one can protect baby jinchuriki better than the other jinchuriki so it's fine. Everyone just accepts it.

Naruto is bullied less but I think no one can tell him about his parents cuz Sandaime sucks ass. But "Rin" drops HUGE hints cuz he hates Sandaime now too. Like no shit Tsunade left.

Idk what would happen with Obito if he finds out about "Rin's" identity. he'd come back crawling and crying probably. Maybe try to kidnap him and cry more in Kamui.

hi hello it's a small ghost fire au art dump \o/

some of y'all have seen these already but whatever lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ no longer gatekeeping at least xD

anywho, some infodumping here as well under the cut! establishing who's what and so on :D there are some differences from what i've said in older posts for this au bc this is very much still in the works lol

i'm definitely down for suggestions for characters and plot ideas btw!

to give some background info, this au's world is pretty much like our own but with yokai thrown into the mix. some interact with (and/or are malicious towards) humans, so a government agency was formed to document them, with specially trained agents to subdue/defeat yokai causing trouble.

this is where raidou comes in! officially, he's one of those agents that do documentation. unofficially, he also helps defeat yokai because they hate him especially for whatever reason. he's a bit of a yokai magnet, if you will. half-thought-out plot right there but we might get back to that eventually. he can also spot yokai even if they're purposefully staying hidden, which is partially why he's so good at his job.

anywho, part of raidou's current team is kakashi! kakashi is from a long line of powerful exorcists, and his left eye has the ability to pinpoint yokai weaknesses, among other things. said eye also lends a little more power to his talismans and charms so yay for that. obito and rin are still alive in this au, but sakumo isn't, with mysterious circumstances surrounding his death. another half-thought-out plot right there.

next, part of raidou's former team was genma! genma used to work with raidou as a fellow documentation agent, going more into initial scouting/assessing than actual recording. unfortunately (as you could probably tell from the art and fics involving this au), he's not quite alive anymore (rip). it was initially assumed that he'd disappeared on a one-off solo mission, but after his body was discovered washed up on a beach, he was declared officially dead. now he's a funayurei (ghosts of those that died at sea) - i originally had him as a shiranui (a type of onibi (demon fire/wil o' wisp) found on a sea i forgot the name of) bc of his last name but i think this works out a little bit better - he just has a pair of hitodama (onibi-like things that are basically kind of like a yurei's (ghost's) soul detached from the body) hovering around, to give a similar vibe haha. depictions of yurei are typically white clothes, long black hair, etc. etc. but i did read that they can appear in the clothes they died in, so i'm going with that. but hey on another note - now that they're reunited, genma's back on the yokai documentation grind. just. as a yokai himself xD

anywho, these two have been the most consistent in raidou's team. he has definitely worked with other agents before, but those agents were more like specialists assigned for specific missions. more on that eventually.

izumo and kotetsu don't really fit into any of the categories i've described so far. they're two among many undercover agents established all over the country, often in somewhat more remote areas, responsible for reporting yokai threats in their assigned sectors. izumo and kotetsu specifically are undercover as convenience store employees, with said convenience store also working as a safe house. any agents assigned to that area can restock supplies/weapons, get some rest, or establish contact with hq. and like i said in previous posts about them, they are able to deal with yokai to a certain extent. not powerhouses by any means, but they can usually hold their own until reinforcements arrive. izumo favors talismans and dart guns that usually contain a tranquilizing substance. kotetsu, meanwhile, favors larger bladed weapons (and ofc they're both proficient in other weapons xD) as such, they're a good combo of long range and close combat

overall, the jounin would probably be the higher-ranking all rounders, tokubetsu jounin would be the specialists, and chuunin would be the undercover agents i mentioned earlier. as for anbu, they'd probably be the ones dealing with large scale threats. ofc there are exceptions, especially those at the agency headquarters. (this is def formatted similarly to canon xD)

moving on to the yokai! while i have done research, this definitely isn't fully fleshed out yet. here's what i do have though!

hayate and yugao: the two are a pair of sword and scabbard tsukumogami, which are yokai generally agreed to be objects that have gained life and sentience after reaching 100 years of age. they busted out of a museum ages ago and have since lived together, passing relatively well as normal people. i will admit i took artistic liberties though; most art i've seen of tsukumogami look distinctively more like the objects they used to be. for my own sanity i've made them more humanoid xD

anko: she is a bakeneko, a type of mischievous cat yokai that is sometimes said to come from cats that became yokai after being raised for a certain number of years (exact number varies) or to exact revenge against cruel humans. i don't have much else on her so that's about it for now :3

That mission took a toll on Kakashi. Minato was his master, the Yellow Flash, and he was too late to save Rin and Obito. You remember it vividly, there was a crash on your porch that night, scaring your mother half to death. It was only the two of you, and when you both sprung to check the door, there was Kakashi half awake and looked dead. Your mother knew to leave you two and made a pot of tea in the kitchen. Kakashi didn't speak for a long while, when he did, those tears fell fast from his face. Facing the deaths of his comrades and friends was nothing light for a ninja. 

“I couldn't do anything” he had said to you, crying into your chest. “All I have is this stupid eye” 

“That eye…is what you can use to remember them,” you told him, lifting his face to see the eye that contained the Sharingan. “Fight with this eye, for Rin and Obito. What better way to remember them than to fight for what they taught you and gave you”

This was not the last night Kakashi came to your place, but it was the last he used the door. Kakashi would sneak into your room, already expecting him, you would open your arms for him to climb into. He would slide into your arms, holding you close, breathing in everything about you. He never pushed you away even though he worried you would die. He was always worried having people close would mean that they could die. You knew that having people close meant you were going to be stronger.

“Don't you dare push me away Hatake” you had yelled at him one day. You glared at him after catching up to him. He could see the anger in your eyes.

He had tried to avoid you all week, hoping you would let him go. He was so wrong. Kakashi was going to join the Anbu Black Ops. The Anbu tried to instill a sense of individuality and isolation in their soldiers, but it didn't work on Kakashi. 

“I couldn't push you away if I tried Y/N” Kakashi said, walking over to you. He put out his hand and the two of you continued walking around the village.

Soon after joining the Anbu Kakashi insisted on moving in together. After confirming that he couldn't live without you, and had failed at pushing you away he knew he had to do this. Guy had also pushed him into it, saying it was the only way.

"I am telling you Kakakshi, you love this girl," he said to Kakashi. They sat in both at one of the restaurants, Guy had practically dragged Kakashi inside. "You should tell her, stop dancing around it"

"I can't..." Kakashi told him, "What is she..."

"She loves you back," Guy said with a wink, "Don't worry about that part one bit"

Remarkably, Kakashi listened. 

“What?” you asked. Kakashi looked confused, even under the mask. 

“Move in with me…as my girlfriend,” he said hesitantly. You were dumbfounded, completely caught off guard.

“I…of course I will,” You said, “I never thought you would be the first to ask”

“Guy said I had to make a move. Told me to stop dancing around it and tell you” Kakashi said, his eyes were at his feat. He was embarrassed to tell you all this, afraid you would find it weak. You thought the opposite.

“Well thank you to Guy then!” you said throwing your arms around Kakashi. 

 Guy always teased the two of you, even before Kakashi started calling you his girlfriend and long after. He always knew he had some help in getting Kakashi to own up to the fact that he wanted you as his. 

“You two look great today” Guy would say, showing the two of you a thumbs up before dashing off. In his younger years, Kakashi and Guy had a heated rivalry, mostly one-sided. As they got older Kakashi started to recognize the rivalry and the friendship that came with it.

You found his antics to be hilarious, always bursting out in laughter whenever Guy was around. Your laughter has always been contagious, and soon Kakashi's students couldn't keep a straight face with you around. Sakura was always smiling at the two of you together, her ideas of love definitely were filed by you and Kakashis's relationship. Naruto however was your favorite, a goofball, and someone with more humor than yourself. 

Everyone could see how keeping you around was good for Kakashi. You helped him, in small and big ways. You were the only person who truly understood Kakashi. 

“You have always stood by my side” he had said to you on the day he became Hokage. He looked at you standing by his side, hand in hand. Matching rungs shone in the sunlight, and Kakashi's smile was more for you than for becoming Hokage.

“I always will,” you told him, squeezing his hand and telling him you wouldn't ever let go. It was the two of you taking on the world together. Forever by each other's sides.

trying to make sense of the timeline in naruto is a nightmare bc kishimoto is very inconsistent so i decided to make up my own headcanons.

rin is the oldest in team minato, her birthday is nov 15th, so she's 3 months older than obito. she's also the tallest. on the days obito and kakashi try her patience she'll just pretend she can't see them anymore bc she's So Tall and they're not in her line of sight. "oh no i can't find my teammates anywhere! they're So Tiny i fear i might have accidentally stepped on them. they will be missed 😔"

obito (feb 10th) is 7 months older than kakashi. he's totally the type to lord it over him like: (on the day he turned 12) "you see kakashi, i'm older and wiser than you. when i was your age-"

that makes kakashi the youngest (sep 15th). your honor he's just a baby! the babiest even! he definitely tried to forge his documents to make himself older (too bad his chicken-scratch handwriting gave him away)

Summing up the AU, wings are permanent and solid chakra constructs that evolve over a shinobi's lifetime. They are directly connected to chakra coils, and gain additional colors when a person goes through a life-changing experience or becomes more powerful. Kakashi seals his wings (which can be done b/c they're chakra based) to hide them, similar to his face.

Wings show a lot about your social status, connections, and personality. Small movements can indicate emotional expression (though these can be controlled with chakra and most shinobi choose to do that), and allowing someone to touch them demonstrates a lot of trust, as attacks can damage them permanently. Color changes can result from a traumatic/dramatic/generally life-changing event or a huge development in power level.

The ANBU tattoo is a strengthened wing seal. The typical jounin seal only temporarily puts their wings into a “pocket dimension” of sorts, which still allows for the wings to form while hiding them effectively for short-term high-ranking missions. The ANBU seal redirects the chakra that flows to form the wings, preventing them from existing at all. ANBU seals are much better, because the jounin version still allows the wing chakra to be sensed. Kakashi just keeps on using the ANBU version even when he’s not on missions.

Kind of already included in the story, but cool/beautiful wings = being attractive. Kakashi went around without his wings for half his life so he never really experiences this. After he starts having them out more, he goes through a sudden increase in propositions, much to his students’ consternations. Of course, wings are also related to some bedroom activities ;)

If Kakashi had looked at his wings when he still had the Sharingan, he would’ve seen a mess of molting feathers and immediately resealed them. The reason is because the Sharingan eats away at his non-Uchiha chakra reserves, keeping him in a constant state of half-chakra. To reflect this, his wings are weaker and lose feathers constantly. After his Sharingan was taken, the chakra drain lessened considerably, and Obito’s chakra boost essentially restored his wings. Also, if he did have his wings out, he would likely become chakra-drained much faster because a portion of his reserves would be dedicated toward manifesting wings.

Obito has always thought Kakashi’s silvery wings were super pretty. Obito was super disappointed when Kakashi started sealing them after his father passed away, so he only has vague memories of fluffy silver wings. You can bet he was screaming and having heart palpitations in the afterlife when Kakashi does his wings reveal during the Kaguya fight lmaooo

Shinobi can absolutely fly, it just takes more chakra than most are willing to sacrifice. It’s also not super good for fighting, because there are a number of long-range jutsu that would bring them down immediately.

Rin’s wings were purple. Side note: when shinobi die, their chakra wings disappear. When she was forcibly made into a jinchuuriki, the tips of her wings started greying and painfully molting. It was too dark for Kakashi to tell.

The orange tips on Naruto’s wings are a little more red than Obito’s were, but it was still enough to remind Kakashi of Obito, playing into his guilt complex.

The black on Kakashi’s wings actually crept further up the more grief and trauma he went through. So after his dad’s death (btw the silver reminded him of his dead dad! and his wings were stained with blood when he went to report his father’s suicide, which didn’t help the rumors later on in the older generations of shinobi…), he starts sealing his wings and never really notices the black. It increases after his entire team’s deaths. The white dots are for every person he’s killed with chidori/raikiri, so I guess it really is a good thing he doesn’t know exactly how he got them (though he probably can guess). The blue underside is the influence of Obito’s chakra and the entire life-changing experience of the war.

since the naruto timeline is so… you know… inconsistent, for a word, i think it’s really funny if obito and rin are older than kakashi by some years. because then obito is really just having beef with a toddler like kakashi is 6 and obito is 9 or 10 and he finds this little feral dog child to be a major threat to his psyche. meanwhile rin has to be his voice of reason, saying no you can not hurt our 6 year old teammate, look at him he’s just a baby. and kakashi is snarling, on his hands and knees, barking like a chihuahua at them. and minato who’s a very busy jounin asks rin and obito to look after kakashi because he’s very messed up and could use a friend or two. but obito takes it as minato wants him to babysit his ankle biter teammate whom he loathes. but of course rin agrees and obito begrudgingly goes with her. and he doesn’t know how to deal with kids, being one himself, so he tries to boss kakashi around but little selectively mute kakashi glares at him and snaps his teeth at him any time obito so much as breathes air wrong. rin who understood minato’s assignment and asks if kakashi needs help cooking dinner or washing the dishes and is just generally friendly rather than bossy. obito still not understanding and trying to inflict bath time on a dog boy who viciously does not like water and the only people who can actually get him to take a bath are his dead father, minato, and pakkun. kakashi who likes rin enough and lets her sit on his furniture and kakashi who does not trust obito as far as he can throw him and growls at him when he so much as walks into the room. obito who’s had enough and decides to teach the baby a lesson. kakashi and obito who end up having a brawl in the living room while rin watches cartoons because hagoromo otsutsuki she’s just a girl! and she does not have the patience to deal with her asshole baby teammate and her stupid best friend teammate. minato who shows as up eventually and separates kakashi and obito and thinks they’re finally getting along until kakashi lifts his leg and pisses on the ground to mark his territory. the rest of team minato who finally realize that kakashi is actually just a puppy in human form and he is not housebroken…

AHHH Haunt The Lonely is so good!!! Shisui and Rin are the main ghosts here and I just love the dynamics they have with Sakura. Rin is like an older sister that gives advice and Shisui is Shisui lmao. Lots of meddling from him to ensure that Sakura doesn't get to graduate early, much to her annoyance.

They've lost. Naruto was dead, killed at Kaguya’s hands. Along with him died any illusions of hope that they could win. They couldn’t win, but perhaps they wouldn’t need to. In attempts to stop the Fourth Shinobi War from ever occuring, Sakura is sent back in time to the moment of her birth. Protecting the people she cared about would be much easier if she knew all the facts. OR Where Sakura can see the dead, and Danzō deserves to die.

The whole 'Sakura sees ghosts' thing doesn't come in until much later in the story here. This is another one of those Sakura-centric time travel fics and so of course we have some Danzo hatred going on!! I remember there being some pretty interesting Uchiha clan lore in this fic as well. Plus, another great Shisui and Sakura friendship in These Eyes of Mine.

“My name is Hatake Sakumo, and I’ve been dead for tweleve years.” It seemed fitting that her kekkei genaki would awaken in the cemetery, of all places. OR The Haruno Clan are immigrants, Sakura grows up differently, there are ghosts dogging her every step, and that changes everything.

Not only does Sakura see the ghosts of people like Sakumo and Shisui, but she also ends up as an early graduate! She originally joins a separate team from team 7 and forms close bonds with them, but eventually things seem to fall apart. Sakura then struggles to adjust on team 7. Super interesting story and I'm excited to see where it goes!

Sakura sees ghosts and the only person less pleased about it than her is Kakashi-sensei.

This is a pretty entertaining story imo. Sakura finds out after the fight against Zabuza and Haku that she can, unfortunately, see ghosts. Kakashi is definitely not thrilled with the situation either, but there is some good bonding in here between the two of them! In fact, she even becomes the ancillary leader of team 7.

Haruno Sakura knows Death before she knows anything else. Knowing doesn’t prepare her for Team 7. Unlike what everyone seems to believe, it does not start with seeing dead people. That, actually doesn’t come until much, much later.

Essentially, Sakura is a very weird child who happens to live at shrine/cemetery. Anyway, I really love the style in which this is written. Sakura's friendships are supper interesting as well and I find the fact that she befriends Shino to be so fitting with her character here. Her relationship with the team is also lovely and I hope this gets continued one day!

If Inherited Will of Fire ever gets completed, I will be jumping with joy! Such an awesome fic where the ghosts help Sakura to become another name on Konoha's list of early graduates. The training arc makes me laugh because there's some Mulan references (you'll understand if you read it) lmao. Anyway, her team is genuinely so intriguing because I can already see where the author was going with it and I wish I could read what happens!!!! Also, dw she is still friends with the rookies!

Damn, I just really love Tobirama as a character. This guy rocks and deserves more story time (justice for Tobirama!!).

Tobirama is such a great character (so refreshing) and his interactions with Sakura in this are gold! I hope one day Kishimoto will release some side stories about him and other characters from his time as we really don't know that much about them tbh.

I think Partners in Crime might be the longest fic on the list here, so if you're someone who enjoys longer works then here you go! Also, I feel like I should mention that the author has loads of Sakura fics with plenty of different pairings, if you're interested.

Tsunade is the best written female character in Naruto because she had a life outside her team.

Like, if you can erase the main male characters out of the life of a female character and you still have a female character, that's something.

Who is Rin outside Kakashi and Obito? "Oh she almost became a jinchuuriki—" that event was made do that Kakashi and Obito couple awaken their mangekyou sharingan. Besides being their crush or teammate, who was she?

Kushina was more than a mother and a wife, right? But what happened to her dream of being Hokage? Why did Minato get the job instead? She has something going on for herself, but it was erased even before she died.

Yahiko and Nagato were as lonely as Konan was. At least none of them have anything beside each other, which isn't exactly good, but at least they were equals.

Sakura was someone before Naruto and Sasuke. She had Ino, she had a family— and in Shippuden they treat those things like there's nothing more to it. The focus is her role within Team 7, her role as the girl in the love triangle, her role as a healer that she took because of them. You're telling me that Sasuke and Naruto were gone for years and just trained and waited for them? In the Chunning Exams we were shown how much Ino and Sakura meant for each other, so why downplay it? Why minimize it? All the times Konoha was attacked and you never showed Sakura being worried for her parents? No one ever asked?

I'm so glad for Tsunade in that sense.

Erase her team, who is she?

A Senju. She's the granddaughter of two of the most powerful shinobis to ever exist and she does something with it. It isn't just a mention. She was an older sister and we were able to explore that connection with Nawaki. She was a lover to Dan and we saw her love for him multiple times. Do you want to ease all men in her life? She's a medic nin, the best in the world. She changed the way wars were fought. She has a pet and she has an apprentice, Shizune. The bond between Shizune and Tsunade is deep and developed through the story. She was a rival to grandma Chiyo. She was a sensei to Sakura too, taught her all she knew and trained her so no man could ever step over her again as if nothing. She was a killer. She was freaking Hokage.

If it wasn't for Tsunade, Sakura wouldn't have been allowed to be multidimensional like her. In fact, even after Tsunade, the story kept portraying Sakura like just the female crush, the healer for them to survive, blah blah blah.

They made Kurenai only a mom. Wrote Anko off. Treated the kunoichis of the Konoha 12 as an afterthought. Hell, they gave Sasuke another girl love triangle with Karin. A freaking Uzumaki girl and they did that. At least Temari is as chained to her siblings as they are to her.

If you erase Tsunade, tell me how the female characters of Naruto stand? Because every single male character is someone outside their female friends or lovers or whatever.

What about the girls? What about them?

I think it'd be funny if we made Kakashi even younger.

Can you imagine Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura finding out that Kakashi is only a handful of years older than them?!

I mean, with how little we see of his face it's extremely difficult to tell how old he is...

It was one thing when he was prepubescent and short with an unbroken voice, but once his voice dropped and he reached an average adult height... How would anyone be able to tell?

He's strong, highly ranked, mature for his age, and the proper height for an adult with an adult voice. Anyone who didn't already know his age would be liable to mistakenly assume he's older than he actually is, especially with the grey hair.

And it's not like it's out of the realm of possibility for a teenager to be a jounin sensei—take Minato, for example. He was, what, seventeen? And as talented as Minato was, he's nothing compared to Kakashi when it comes to rising through the ranks at a young age.

I'm pretty sure Kakashi broke literally every record there was when it came to "youngest ever [blank]". Academy student, genin, chūnin, jōnin, ANBU, ANBU Captain... Sure, Itachi eventually beat him in one or two of those, but at the time Kakashi was the sole record-holder; There'd never been anyone like him before.

If we just modify Kakashi's already contradictory timeline... Unimportant info below about the details for just how this could potentially work in canon!!

—WAIT. FORGET ALL THAT.

If you want to read my calculations as to how this could canonically work you may direct your attention below, however I have just come up with a far better and far simpler and also quite possibly both funnier and sadder idea:

Time-travel, but not in any way you're thinking...

Most people assume the reason why they didn't hear much of Kakashi's exploits over the years is because he was in ANBU and so everything was Top Secret and extremely covert...

But what if the real reason was because Kakashi had somehow been sent about a decade into the future? Hence explaining how he could be a teenager still when he was once the Yondaime's student.

Also possible: Kakashi was somehow held in stasis for the past decade—sealed, perhaps? Trapped? Or maybe the work of a foreign shinobi's jutsu (kekkei genkai?) that took about a decade or so to break/deactivate...

Or, my personal favorite:

He was investigating the Uzushiogakure ruins and got caught in one of their defensive seals — one that would seal him for a maximum of ten years, with the intention of giving Uzushio shinobi as much time as possible to deal with whatever intruder(s) got caught in the trap.

Without Kushina or Minato or any other Uzumaki seal experts however, deactivating the seal would be basically impossible — luckily, the seal was set up so that once time ran out Kakashi would be automatically released.

And he was! Ten years later, with little baby Naruto all grown up and almost ready to be placed on a genin team — his genin team.

AFFOREMENTIONED DUMB CALCULATIONS FOR HOW THIS COULD POTENTIALLY FIT INTO THE CANONICAL TIMELINE BELOW 👇

Genin at five, chūnin at six... Then he stalls at chūnin for a while before eventually advancing to jōnin at twelve (wherein Obito "dies").

He's approximately thirteen when Rin is killed leading to him joining ANBU, and then fourteen when Naruto is born and the Kyūbi is unleashed on the village, causing Minato and Kushina to sacrifice themselves.

In canon, he is then twenty-six years old when he becomes Team 7's jōnin sensei...

For starters, I vote we cut those six years of chūnin limbo before Kakashi becomes jōnin, dropping him to about twenty-or-so.

Then again, this is fanfic—who cares about canon timelines?

If we put him on the hyper-speed fast-track...

4: Academy student

5: Genin

6: Chūnin

7. Jōnin (Obito dies)

8. ANBU (Rin dies)

9. Naruto's birth (Minato & Kushina die)

Is this ridiculous? Yes! But who cares?

Alright, this is getting a bit annoyingly complicated.

Even if I downgrade Naruto to eleven (because for a long time I was convinced for some reason that Naruto was eleven while the rest of his peers were twelve, and I still have absolutely no clue where I got that idea from) that would still make Kakashi about twenty. Hm...

Ugh, I'll figure this out later. Can't we just hand-wave it?

—No wait, I have an idea:

While modifying his canon timeline to make him younger is a hassle and a half, the fact remains that until we saw Kakashi Gaiden we didn't actually have any details on his backstory...

In other words? The beginning of the series managed just fine without it, so why don't we just throw it out entirely?

Afterall, this fic is about jōnin-sensei Kakashi—the details of his traumatic childhood are irrelevant, and it's not like early fans had that information to work with anyway.

Naruto is canonically younger than Sasuke (who was a baby during the Kyūbi attack) so we shall put him at eleven to give us some leeway.

Now let's say we wanted to make Kakashi somewhere around sixteen to eighteen during canon—that would require him to be five to seven years old when Minato dies.

Now let's compress his timeline some more:

Considering the Konoha 9 all attended the very first chūnin exams after they graduated, I don't see any reason why Kakashi couldn't do the same—and unlike them he's a prodigy so it's basically guaranteed that he'd pass. (And that's assuming he didn't get a field promotion...)

Give him up to a year to become jōnin, and then have him join ANBU almost immediately after.

Some months later, Naruto is born and the Yondaime dies.

To compress it further, I am making his graduation even more ridiculous:

Academy student at three, genin and then chūnin at four, jōnin and ANBU at five. God, can you imagine a five-year-old ANBU? That'd be terrifying. Naruto is born around the time he turns six, and eleven years later Kakashi passes a genin team for the first time and is made a jōnin-sensei at seventeen, just like Minato-sensei was.

It'll take Team 7 a while to realize that, however.

...WAIT A MINUTE.***

Why am I even bothering to promote him prior to Minato's death? Am I, perhaps, an idiot?

Minato becomes his sensei as soon as he graduates to genin at five years old, but before that Kakashi spent a lot of time as his apprentice and they bonded. Shortly after Team 7 is formed the Kyūbi attack happens and Minato dies — the how doesn't matter, so don't worry about it.

The war is over so instead of Kannabi Bridge they go on some other dangerous mission with the same results, except this time the reason Minato isn't there is because he's dead.

They send some other inadequate chūnin or jōnin in his place, but they promptly get killed early on in the mission, perhaps at the same time that Rin gets kidnapped.

Kakashi is chūnin at this point so he naturally takes charge, despite being a five or six year old and Obito being — I don't know, twelve? Significantly older.

Obito dies, then Rin, and this time it's the stupid Sandaime that sticks Kakashi in ANBU like he's an annoying unwanted child that he wants to keep out of sight and thoroughly occupied — at least, until he needs a jōnin sensei for the Kyūbi's Jinchūriki and the Last Uchiha...

So, final version:

Five years old when Minato dies and Naruto is born, and about five or six years old when Obito and Rin die and Kakashi gets stuck in ANBU, followed by eleven years of Naruto growing up while Kakashi's in ANBU makes him... About sixteen to seventeen years old when Kakashi becomes Team 7's jōnin sensei.

To Kakashi, this feels almost poetic. (Same age as Minato-sensei was...)

Rin was Minato's favourite. he believed she had a lot of potential. being a medic to the team, she was truly important, and was already incredible at keeping them all alive. she would grow up and become even stronger. he knew she was stronger than she let on.

Obito was Minato's second favourite. sharing the same dream of becoming hokage, Minato would be drawn to raising Obito right and ensuring they both became great hokage.

Kushina's favourite was Obito. they, too, shared the same dream of becoming hokage. they got along well, despite all their playful arguing and fighting. Obito was adorable to her, especially whenever he tried to act tough.

Kushina's second favourite was Rin. being a girl, Rin was easy to get along with, too. she was adorable and got along with Obito, but knew when to put her foot down too. she was a kind girl but had been slightly influenced by Kushina and learned to be just a little harsh if she needed to.

of course, that leaves Kakashi. the distance between the three isn't massive or anything. he is loved no less.

at some point... Minato had lost faith in Kakashi, believing he'd never recover from Sakumo's death, believed Kakashi would never value comrades again. Minato had distanced himself just a little bit from Kakashi, and blamed himself entirely for it (because why would you back away from a kid with no parental figures and clearly needs so much help??).

he believed he could not help.

Kakashi never noticed until he got older and remembered the way Minato would look at him.

the realisation that Minato had no faith, no trust in him hurts, and it only builds a deeper hole when Kakashi knows Minato felt that way all the way up until his death...

Obito did nothing wrong!

I just became acquainted with a portion of Obito’s fandom that, in their passionate worship of one of the best characters written by Kishimoto, becomes obtuse to hold him accountable for his actions, choosing instead to blame Madara’s manipulation or Zetsu’s, while some others –far more rabid, rest his decisions upon his emotions, for which he had no control of.

I won’t dedicate this as much time as I probably could, as I hold no interest in dedicating this idea more than it deserves, so pardon me for the hastiness of this post.

I am, or rather I always considered myself, also quite enthusiastic when it comes to Obito, for whom I have a soft spot due to everything he endured from a young age, however, detaching him from every action he performed (whilst painting him as a mere puppet and not the mastermind he became from the tender age of thirteen) is a disservice to his character, and the idea that we can’t hold accountable a twenty-nine-year-old man for his decisions it’s something both dangerous and that I personally find annoying.

Madara and Zetsu did, as some point out, lured Obito to specific decisions when modifying/manipulating events so Rin would die while he watched –as Madara wanted to guarantee Obito wouldn’t return to Konoha and would, instead, seek changes within a military system that did nothing but warrant their soldiers' expendability; something Madara had nothing to do with, as the war and mindset for which the shinobi system uphold itself were established prior to his intervention. Shortly after these events, Madara died, leaving Obito to his own devices and a sketched plan that, even stated by Madara himself, was not followed as planned. 

Obito was told to harvest the tailed beasts, he could’ve easily taken Kurama once he released him, yet he consciously chose to summon it upon Rin’s grave and break havoc in the village, for which the Uchiha clan was blamed. He also chose to kill an entire portion of his kin alongside Itachi and showed no remorse, as he considered it was a logical sacrifice to be made as to achieve ever-lasting peace (the fact that the clan was doomed regardless as the government already chose its destiny doesn’t modify the fact that he assisted in their destruction and warranted Konoha’s success). He controlled, without having to as he could’ve taken the three tails and sealed it upon the statue, Kirigakure’s Mizukage, deepening the gravity of the Kekkei Genkai cleansing (which basis where already there but it doesn’t diminish his performance) occurring in such village.

Many think that the seal placed on his heart by Madara was controlling Obito’s emotions and actions, however, the seal “Kinkoju no Fuda” that was placed both in Obito and Rin (and was twice removed by Kakashi’s Chidori –which is so incredibly poetic I can’t believe some of you would strip such moment from the relevance it has), was to guarantee that none of them would kill themselves -and while there was control intended upon it (x) Madara was nowhere around it to perform such task. Obito chose to remove that seal willingly (he knew of its existence, which defies the purpose of an ever-controlling seal even when the sealer is dead) by using Kakashi’s technique in order to become the Ten-Tails Jinchuuriki (x), as he never trusted nor liked the older Uchiha and wanted to be in control of Tsukuyomi.

He also was the one who bonded with the Ten-Tails and chose to kill Shukaku and Inoichi, he had absolute control of his actions and emotions at that point as he even threatened Madara to put everything in jeopardy, which makes the whole “Madara controlled him as he wanted” idea nonsensical (x). 

Madara even admits that he created such circumstances in order to draw Obito to darkness (x) and make him seek Tsukuyomi as an outcome –as he saw himself in hell, he’ll look for a reality that he could control. Why would he take such lengths to convince someone of doing his binding if he could control it even beyond the grave?

The seal was placed in order to control Obito once Madara was revived and in case Obito went “rogue”. If that seal had already been working, Obito would never have had the chance to even plan to take it out through Kakashi's Chidori, as it would have been controlled much earlier and the whole “taking out the seal” would’ve been on accident, at most. He defied Madara’s manipulation in order to become the Ten-Tails Jinchuuriki (x), allowed Kakashi to pierce through the seal, tamed the Ten-Tails and still continued to attack and repeat the same mindset he did prior to the seal’s destruction (x, x).

He even admits that the path he followed is one chosen by him (x) and he has no regrets (x) –how can his “fandom” deny him of the agency he claims for himself?

It’s true that you are what the environment makes of you, something for which Madara and Zetsu were responsible for (as Zetsu also manipulated Madara, so if we place blame upon a subject then we need to keep doing it to infinitum, and such practice holds no one responsible in the end), but once that happens, everything that comes after is of your own choosing. The environment shapes you and offers you choices, and it’s the decision that you make between such choices that, in the end, makes you:

You can't expect someone in a war-torn area to have the luxury of choices awarded to the those that live in times of peace; and you can't expect the poor, who struggle just to survive, to have as many choices as the middle-class exercises. In this regard, there's little difference between the fate you were born into and the destiny you make; as the less luck you have, the closer your destiny is to your fate; the more luck you have, the wider the gap. Then all of them become less about moral dilemmas and more about survival dilemmas: violence becomes right if your survival is at stake. And to drag the context back to the military, it becomes about the ethics of the state-created solider itself: what is a solider; why is it righteous; why is an anti-solider actor (an irony that provokes) against an illustrious solider villainous? State, too, is a choice maker, but the position of power awards it a greater liberty of what choices and how many choices people can have: the Uchiha didn't have any; Hyuga main branch had plenty; Leaf's sympathizers also had innumerable. You can't expect the receiver of few choices not to pick the ones that grant them clemency, freedom, and more future options in the face of oppression.

If the idea that “emotions are so strong they have no choice but to satisfy it until completion” it’s enough of an explanation (and I particularly detest such ideology as it relies mostly on Tobirama’s idea of Uchiha, which is absolutely preposterous), then it can easily be used as a defense for anyone that committed any sort of crime in order not to be held accountable: Murder might cause the killer excitement, so they acted upon that necessity to placate their emotion, if in anger, one can very easily assault someone and be understood, as they’re simply controlled by their imperative need to release such feeling.

In the overall context of the narrative, Obito was fuelled by feelings of love, anger, and frustration like most other characters, as Naruto’s constant pursuit of Sasuke was also fuelled by emotions –the difference between both of them is that Obito looked for a solution that pushed him to move outside the shinobi bureaucratic system, which threatened Konoha’s stability, while Naruto’s quest was made inside such political and military structure, which ensured the village’s survival.

Regardless of this apparent idea that emotions are what made him act like that, thus, he has no control over his performance (and I’m tempted to say I prefer Obito’s detractors rather than this sort of fandom), Obito is to be held accountable by characters affected by him, such as Naruto (who lost both his parents when he attacked), Sasuke (who was another victim of Obito’s manipulation and the UCM), Ino and Shikamaru, and basically anyone that directly or indirectly suffered from his actions. Just because Naruto “brought him to the light” and forgave him, that doesn’t make him any less guilty or gives any other of his victims equal closure.

“But Obito always cared what others thought of him, which is why Naruto was able to influence him.”

Not exactly, kid Obito yes, as his wish was to become Hokage, he payed special attention to how others and how Rin specifically, saw him. Adult Obito? He cared for no one specifically nor anything, he killed his kin, helped the cleansing of hundreds of people on another land, and killed thoushands during the war, amongst many other things he did for his plan, why would he care what anyone thinks of him at this point? It’s specifically shown during Obito’s final moments as an antagonist, as his adult self is confronted with his younger one, who claims the one Rin cared for was not the “current him” but “Uchiha Obito” (x, x)

There’s a gap between Obito from the past and this one, who detached himself from his emotions –at this moment, when Naruto (a reflection of his former self, which is why he’s able to relate and get influenced by him) takes his hand, he finally reconnects with such part of himself (thus, also his feelings), and the allied forces are able to extract the tailed beasts' chakra from him. It took Naruto connecting with him through their chakra and “bringing back” kid Obito by representing him (as when Naruto himself spoke himself with the adult version, Obito still choose his path; x, x), to get to him.

Even if their claim is to be believed as truthful, and Naruto “unearthed” feelings that were deep inside Obito, it changes absolutely nothing around his mindset or actions, having such “positive” feelings “hidden within him” doesn’t make him any less guilty nor unredeemable.

It’s perfectly fine to want to explore Obito’s “positive traits” rather than his dark ones, as such elements were beautifully done by the canon work itself through Kishimoto’s writing; yet to claim such things are more “canonically relevant” aspects of him than the rest when Kishimoto made him a paragon of a morally good individual that the environment transformed onto one of its darkest consequences (and well prior to Madara’s intervention as he claimed he would crush the “so called shinobi” shall he need to), it’s fallacious. I found most of these claims made by shippers that refuse to see their “romantical” dynamic of choosing under any other light but the one that masks Konoha’s actual contributions to Obito’s “creation” and puts the weight of his shift under his “Uchiha nature” (COH) or Madara’s manipulation. Therefore given their pro-WoF character the status of “hero” that helps Obito overcome his dark path with the power of their love; basically skipping upon everything Obito actually represents inside the narrative that took such long time to construct him.

However, for those that want to: if such “positive” exploration is to be done, then it needs to be performed through the study of kid obito onwards, giving him either other circumstances or changing specific decisions upon Rin’s death –everything after it’s, in my personal opinion, a disservice to his wonderfully constructed character.
