Kaeya enjoys unexpected kisses - whether they're given to you or to him. He's not the best with setting a scene up for romance and, while his flirty tone and general aloofness may say otherwise, always tends to get a little flustered when he thinks about kissing you too much. So he settles for greeting you with a kiss to your temple or your hand; there's always a chilled chuckle after he places a kiss on your neck or shoulder when he sneaks up on you. Of course, you're not the best at sneaking up on him so...you don't get to surprise him as often as he surprises you with kisses. But his guard is significantly lower when he's around you...maybe you can catch him while he's rambling?

Diluc is both like his brother in terms of getting flustered over kisses and unlike his brother in terms of being direct about his kisses. He's someone that is very direct about his wants, but worries about forcing them onto with how direct and blunt he can be. Because of that, he's much more likely to press kisses against the back of your hands, your palms, and your forehead. He's also less likely to kiss you in public, favoring more intimate and private atmospheres where he can show more hm...vulnerable sides of himself. Greatly enjoys climbing into bed with (or after) you and feeling you stir against him. There's only a hint of guilt that flares in him for disturbing you if you were already asleep, but it's always quelled when you immediately reach for him to give him a sleepy kiss in greeting. He'd be lying if he said it wasn't one of his favorite things to come back home to.

Xiao is...how do I put this...unfamiliar with kisses. He's spent the bulk of his existence avoiding most people and dedicating himself to protecting Liyue from a distance; he hasn't exactly had the time to stop and try kissing, well, anyone. So when he does try to kiss you, it's a pretty rough and crude reenactment of kisses he's observed from a distance. So you often have to take the initiative with him and gently guide him to how you'd prefer he'd kiss you. It takes awhile, but he gets it eventually and has given you a few, more delicate kisses, but never too many out of fear he might hurt you. If he was a bit more honest with himself, he'd admit how much he enjoys kissing your lips. There's something calming to him about it. Grounding. Don't be surprised to find him staring at your lips more often - he's still not one to initiate, but he'll jump at the chance to be able to kiss you again.

Thoma, oh Thoma...I don't even know where to start with him! He kisses you when he sees you in the morning, he kisses you when you come by Komore Teahouse, he kisses you when he spots you in the street; there's almost no place he doesn't immediately pull you into his arms and give you a kiss before asking about how you're doing. The only place he may have some reverence is in the Kamisato Estate, especially if the Lord or Lady of the manor are present. PDA is a nonissue with him - unless he's working of course! Thoma really, really enjoys being able to kiss you anywhere on your face, especially your cheeks! He'll always give them a little nuzzle afterwards since he has to run off and get back to work, but he always promises to make up for his departure with several more kisses when you see each other again!

Tighnari is always a bit of a hit or a miss. Not because he doesn't want to kiss, but because he's been working on several new guidelines and regulations for researchers coming into the forest, working on another presentation that he'll need to give in a few weeks, and he really can't afford to be distracted right now. Which almost always happens when he kisses you. He's somehow pavlov'd himself into treating kisses as a reward and can't untrain himself for the life of him. That being said, he really and genuinely enjoys giving and getting kisses after a long day when you've both gotten the chance to settle down and the rest of Gandharva Ville is at peace for the night. He enjoys getting them a little bit more though, especially on top of his head. Kissing his ears is nice, but he always involuntarily flicks them in your face when you do that and then you have to hear him rant on and on about not doing that. As if that's actually going to stop you next time.

Cyno's kisses are always sweet and shy...because he's genuinely shy about it. This isn't something that he can learn in a way that he's familiar with and there's no substitution for learning about it in a non hands-on way. And since he's a perfectionist, or very near to being one, he always overthinks when, where, and how he should kiss you. Unfortunately, since he's frequently away for work, he doesn't often get to even think about giving you a kiss and it's even more so unlikely for him to attempt one when you're both in public. He's already frequently targeted for his position. Getting you tied up in a mess would just make him feel like he has to put distance between the two of you. That being said, he does always enjoy pressing a kiss to the corner of your mouth. In part because he's too shy to kiss you directly, but also because he likes the way he can feel the way your lips quirk into a smile at the action. There's always a joke either following that kiss or said right before he kisses you because if there's one thing that he enjoys more than actually kissing you, it's getting a chance to hear you laugh.

Kaveh...most people would expect him to be well versed in this realm given his artistic and perfectionist nature. They could not be more incorrect. Those closest to Kaveh know that he's thrown himself into his work and studies for the majority of his life - often resting only when it most benefitted the most recent project or proposal he was working on. As honest and open of a person he is, he's never really let that part of his inexperience be known (lest he be mocked by a certain Scribe hovering around) and is quick to change the subject if he's ever asked about it. Unfortunately, Kaveh is very uncertain when it comes to accepting affection. Not because he doesn't want it, it's something he wants and treasures dearly, but because he often feels like he doesn't deserve it or that it could be taken away from him at any time. Kisses specifically make him nervous because he wants them and enjoys them so much, especially when he gets to press them against your palms, wrists, eyelids, the corners of your mouth - anywhere he can reach really. Kissing him back is a one way ticket to a very emotional evening. Not every time, but it takes him a moment to relax afterwards and acknowledge that everything is alright and that you aren't going anywhere. Be patient with him, he's working through a lot right now.

i cant lie, im also beating myself up about not being able to get excited for the new game, or anything anymore it seems, while it can be fun to criticise things, some things you just dont like so badly that the frustration knowing it could be so much better but isnt and you not able to change it outweighs any fun- i dont like being a 'hater', i hate totk, but not bc i hate zelda but bc i LOVE it and want it to be better (though im starting to doubt my ability to do anything good with it too..)

and with the new game trailer (like, i still hope its better than im fearing rn) i feel similarly as when the next totk trailers dropped after the first one (which DID excite me), all of them gave me a sense of dread bc it seemed to go into a direction i wouldnt like, i tried to tone that voice down to enjoy the game, but then .. i was right

i dont want to be an annoying complainer about everything new, but maybe i am and i dont like that thought, i dont want to spoil anyones fun, i want to partake in it :(

“what does geralt get from that friendship…”

another post examining the weight of geralt and dandelion’s friendship… because i don’t think people recognize how painful and debilitating loneliness can become.

the witcher as a deconstruction of the genre takes fantasy tropes to their most logical ends—it asks us to consider what The Lone Swordsman feels, looks into the humanity in a Cold-Blooded Killer. and it turns out he’s not cold-blooded at all.

that despite some superhuman abilities, he laments and worries and curses himself, just like any other worker of any other profession. just as the farmer is scorched by the sun, the washerwoman’s back aches, and the scholar goes half-blind studying, a witcher deals with all of the pains and annoyances and dangers of his job in a mundanely human way.

but the farmer, the washerwoman, and the scholar have something the witcher does not have—they’ll always be seen as human and part of their society. at the end of the day after enduring all of their labor, they have their wife to caress, festivities to attend, and taverns to frequent. but for a witcher? after the killing is over, what does he have? no one and nothing. not even a thank you. he is met with fear and hatred everywhere he goes, baseless bigotry and dislike.

I did my job. I quickly learned how. I’d ride up to village enclosures or town pickets and wait. If they spat, cursed and threw stones, I rode away. If someone came out to give me a commission, I’d carry it out.

so he faces not just loneliness, but being deliberately ostracized and cast out from society. geralt can’t even find a polite word in most settlements, much less a friend.

‘(…) Tell me, where should I go? And for what? At least here some people have gathered with whom I have something to talk about. People who don’t break off their conversations when I approach. People who, though they may not like me, say it to my face, and don’t throw stones from behind a fence. (…)’

this kind of loneliness is not a mere inconvenience. it’s completely altering to your self-perception and ability to see the positive in the world.

each day is not lived, but endured.

day in, and day out—forced to the most difficult and lowest labor in order to survive, and knowing that were you to die, no one would search for your body, few would miss you, hell, they might even spit “good riddance”.

in this situation, to find a friend, is not only friendship, but a rescue.

without dandelion, geralt may have drowned—drowned in solitude, amidst a sea of strangeness.

‘(…) And I’m alone, completely alone, endlessly alone among the strange and hostile elements. Solitude amid a sea of strangeness. Don’t you dream of that?’

No, I don’t, he thought. I have it every day.

because dandelion is not only a bright soul, characteristic rippling laughter and the strum of a lute, but someone who will intently listen to geralt, someone who mutually enjoys his company.

someone who doesn’t see him as strange and at the fringes of society at all, but as an utterly normal man.

and doesn’t impose demeaning, sappy sympathy onto him, but sobering and realistic “quit your bullshit” which ridicules the very thought that he should internalize societal hatred.

Do you know what your problem is, Geralt? You think you’re different. (…) [You don’t understand that] for people who think clear-headedly you’re the most normal man under the sun, and they all wish that everybody was so normal. What of it that you have quicker reflexes than most and vertical pupils in sunlight? That you can see in the dark like a cat? That you know a few spells? Big deal.

dandelion isn’t “willing” to accept geralt for himself—he already has accepted him. and to him, it’s no difficulty, it’s nothing worth discussing, because he sees no abnormality and no strangeness in him.

while others “prefer the company of lepers to witchers,” dandelion has already offered geralt to share his room and board. not out of sympathetic pity, not out of fetishizing curiosity. because… they’re friends.

and what else does this friendship save him from?

not only from others, but from himself.

worse than enduring others’ apathy and hatred is one’s own thoughts—the darkness and negativity which builds from witnessing and experiencing such behavior.

dandelion’s ability to counter and dispel geralt’s pessimism and self-flagellating tendencies—again, not out of pity, but out of friendship—is undeniably invaluable. someone to rescue you from your darkest thoughts, when you begin to spiral.

and in this darkness, all you can do is cry. you cry, beg for someone to help you, please—

Help! Why doesn't anyone help me? Alone, weak, helpless – I can't move, can't force a sound from my constricted throat. Why does no one come to help me? I'm terrified!

to be alone, the saga reminds us, is worse than a death sentence. to be alone is to “perish; stabbed, beaten or kicked to death, defiled, like a toy passed from hand to hand.” to be alone is to suffer, and to be with someone is to save them from that suffering.

'(…) I wouldn't like anything bad to happen to you. I like you too much, owe you too much-'

it is true that geralt has saved dandelion countless times, helped him, gotten him out of some scrape… but to ask what did geralt get in return? are you kidding me?

did you ever consider that it is dandelion who saved geralt?

by being with him. by being by his side. by being his friend.

indeed, dandelion has rescued geralt, countless times, from the yawning jaws of endless loneliness. he’s helped him, chased away the danger of geralt’s own rumination. and he’s gotten him out of scrapes, his own insecurities and bitter helplessness.

so what does dandelion give geralt? what does geralt get from their friendship?

an amusing question. what one gets from friendship is the friendship itself. and that is more than enough.
