Stoker: You’re doing pretty well moving up the river, but the other boats don’t want to let you inspect their cargo.

Johnathan: We buy a Romanian flag and pretend to be Romanian officials.

Stoker: You’re… You’re both English. And you’re going to pretend to be from the Romanian government?

Johnathan: I rolled a nat 20 for intimidation

Arthur: I rolled a nat 20 for deception

Stoker:… okay. Everyone lets you inspect their boats no problem. You’re now the Romanian government

December 2023 Year in Review

Hello hello, everyone!

To herald the coming new year, I thought it appropriate to go over some of our achievements from the last year and see how far we've come in the development of An Immortal Laid to Rest.

So without further ado, let's begin!

Year in Review

Now, when I was writing this, I was taking into account milestones that were completed during my tumblr hiatus last year. This will be more of a year-and-a-half in review, but I still find it important to have these accomplishments written out.

So let's take a look at them, shall we?

August 9th 2023 — Completion of Act 3 August 10th 2023 — Completion of Draft 2’s entirety September 9th 2023 — Begun Draft 3, Pre-Log November 20th 2023 — Completion of Pre-log; Begun Draft 3, Act 1

It took: 379 days / 12 months and 14 days to complete Draft 0. 375 days / 12 months, 10 days to complete Draft 1. 332 days / 10 months, 29 days to complete Draft 2. We are currently 107 days/ 3 months, 16 days into the writing of Draft 3.

It has been 1275 days/ 3 years, 5 months, 27 days since Project : Desert began.

Reflection

Seeing accomplishments laid out like this puts into perspective how much I've managed to do in the last three and a half years. From a short story in a zine to a novella in the making— I guess I'm just proud of making it this far.

But most of all, it tells how I need to be a lot easier on myself. I tend to get caught up in my work and berate myself for not working hard enough. In the moment, I can't see the work that has been done and how it adds up to the final product.

With that thought in mind, it's with a heavy heart to say I won't be doing the Mid Monthly Report anymore. What started as a way for me to see how much art and writing I managed to do in the span of a month has evolved into deadlines of work that hasn't been done; work that's fallen behind. And it's hard to keep up with on top writing and just generally life.

I don't think MMRs will be gone forever. I plan to start utilizing quarterly reports to keep y'all in the loop of what's happening. But for the time being, this will be the last proper Mid Monthly Report for awhile.

It's been a good time, y'all and I'm incredibly thankful to have y'all be on this journey with me.

Obi Wan has always been a fan of Halloween. He would dress up a different character from the Middle Earth every year and go around the neighbourhood with his mom, having a full pumpkin of sweets every year.  He would later go to Halloween parties in high school and university, dressing up into the most nerdy costumes, only two or three people could identify. He couldn’t wait to go trick-or-treating with his children.

Cody used to like Halloween. He would be dragged by his siblings to collect sweets, which they would consume in the next three days against any warning from their parents. he was very well acquainted with what would happen if the children got too much sugar in a short period of time. The older he got, the less he enjoyed trick-or-treating, forced to skip the party with his friends and accompany his family around the neighbourhood.

When they got together, they would go to parties. They had matching costumes every time, being embarrassingly sweet to each other, making everyone else jealous irritated.

Anakin loved sweet. He would make ladders of whatever was around to reach to the cookies on the top shelves. He would drink the most disgusting tea with 7 spoons of sugar. He could not have a meal without a dessert. Cody quickly realized that Anakin should only get restricted amounts of sugar. And Halloween was the worst time to limit the amount of candies the kid could get. They found it in first two years, but quickly gave up and let Anakin run hyper energized for the first week of November. They could manage it.

And then Ahsoka joined the family. And the children got twice as energized, while their parents got twice as tired. 

One year Obi Wan decided that the first week of November, just when Washington got the first cold and heavy rains, children could go and visit their grandparents in Florida. Parents could not go, they got jobs.

It only worked once, after Cody’s parents brought kids back four days later, telling them that they would never ever invite them over after Halloween or any other candy related holiday. Cody just agreed, while Obi Wan went to get a bottle of wine. God knows, they needed it.

In asoue when they say it was a intermally long drive they really meant it I think.

Because in The Etsatz Elevator episode they talk about secretaries day. Now I don’t know when this is in the show cuz Jacquelyn could have easily made the date up but the real date is 25th of April. If this isn’t right or if Jacquelyn made this up on the news paper Olivia holds the date says May 4th the date on Esmes says May (either 13-14-15, it’s blurry) (don’t ask why I looked so hard for these clues).

Any way then during The Vile Village it’s Klaus birthday. For some reason I thought this was May 13. This would have made the drive very short. But how could that work if the dates on Esme newspaper are correct (I mean I could be wrong cuz the daily punctilio is inaccurate but still).

On the inter web its says that Klaus birthday is Novermber 3rd.

So let’s say the events of The Vile Village happened over 3 days and Klaus birthday was on the last day, that would mean they got their on 31st of October or the 1st of November.

So April/May was when The Ersatz Elevator took place and November was when The Vile Village took place that would mean that it took 5-6 months to get to VFD.

Now if that is not an intermally long drive then I don’t know what is.

(I know this is probs wrong it’s just the evidence I’ve found. And I kinda like how long it’d take to get there 😅)

In the spirit of International Women’s Day, allow me to present my ancestor, Katharine Wright

The younger sister of Orville and Wilbur Wright, both her brothers credited her as a big help in creating their flying machine. Although she didn’t have a hand in the mechanics of their invention, she offered moral support, handled the public, and helped finance their work.

Katharine was the only member of the family to graduate from college, and used the money she made as a teacher to help fund Orville and Wilbur’s work. She also ran their bicycle shop, handled their correspondence, and acted as the face of the Wright family when they showcased their work.

Since both her brothers were notoriously shy, Katharine was the one to meet with political and social figures when the Wrights toured Europe to showcase their aeroplane. She even learned French so she could better communicate with the dignitaries she was meeting. When she first met King Alphonso XIII of Spain, she’d practiced curtseys with an aristocrat’s wife, only to completely forget once the king actually arrived. She greeted him with a handshake and a smile; the king was apparently won over immediately.

Besides the king of Spain, Katharine also met French Prime Minister Georges Clémeceau, 1st Viscount of Northcliffe Alfred Harmsworth, and Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia. She was the third woman in history to fly an airplane, right behind Teresa Peltier and Edith Berg, two socialites her brothers took flying. She was also credited (rather innaccurately) with the rise in popularity of the hobble skirt, since she had to tie her skirt around her legs when she’d fly.

Katharine was awarded the Legion d’honneur alongside her brothers when they left Europe, and is still one of only a handful of American women to do so. Once back in the US, Katharine was invited to the White House with her brothers to meet President Taft, and became an officer of the Wright Company in 1912.

She married her college sweetheart Henry Joseph Haskell on Novermber 20th, 1926, and died of pneumonia on March 3rd, 1929 at age 54.
