okay idk about other ppl so this might be an unpopular opinion but i do not give a shit what actors think about non canon ships and them saying they dislike them (as long as it’s vaguely professional and not like a weird rant or smthn) doesn’t affect my opinion of either them or the ship

One of the more startling things I've learned about growing up is that often times, you'll internalize life lessons or beliefs that you learned (consciously or unconsciously) from other people, only to find out years later that the person you learned it from has since changed their mind, or was simply having a bad day that day.
Even more startling is the realization that you may have (or may end up having) the same effect on other people, too.
When we're really young, we take for granted that older people know what's right and wrong, know how the world works, know how to handle things. When we get older, we come to realize that sometimes people are wrong about this, but even then we take for granted that they're consistent with their beliefs. But that's not always the case. Sometimes people are wrong about something, and then over time come to realize their mistake, and they'll never think to update you, because why would that occur to them? We value consistency as a civilization and don't make a habit of updating everyone we've ever known every time we change our minds about something.
And sometimes we teach each other bad lessons without even realizing it.

things i think about CONSTANTLY:
daniel handler said that everyone in a series of unfortunate events and the surrounding universe is jewish "unless stated otherwise"
the only time it could possibly have been considered "stated otherwise" is in the netflix tvv, when poe and his wife mention being the only kids in their class without b'nei mitzvahs
literally the only non-jewish characters in this series are the bankers
daniel handler is the funniest man alive

There is one moment in the swedish translation of TVV that is way funnier than it is in english.
Tumblr media
”Shit!” she (Violet) said.
Klaus jumped slightly. ”Where?” he said.
”I don’t mean there’s shit in the cell,” she said and hoped it was true.
In english, she apparently says "rats!"

the other day i was thinking about olaf being described as tall in the books, and then i paused to consider, was he "much taller than average", or just "seemed tall from a child's perspective"? after all, olaf's age, according to DH, is "however old children think old people are". so when he was described as tall, could that just be that he looked tall to the three kids.
so i thought, were other people described as tall? off the top of my head the one thing i recall is, jacques was described as " not as tall as olaf" and "not as thin as olaf", and possibly the only adult character whose height is directly compared to olaf's iirc
for comparison's sake, i went back to check if other adults were described as tall as well. olaf and each of his disguises were repeatedly described as tall. within his troupe. the bald man has been described as tall, and fernald, while in disguise, has also been described as tall. charles and sir were both described as tall at some point. so were georgina, esme, jerome. and some more.
esme, like olaf and fernald, has also been described as tall when in disguise and using a fake name. she's also been described as slender.
denouements are also tall, and more than once described as "tall and skinny, with legs and arms sticking out at odd angles"
side note: this has nothing to do with height but: georgina is described to have blond hair. this is interesting because in the books it wasn't that often that a character's hair color is specified. aside from georgina, olivia is described to have blonde hair - "with a flick of her wrist, she unraveled the turban, and her long, blond hair fell down around her tearstained face" (she, on the other hand, was not described as tall)
references below:
poe:
a tall figure striding toward the Baudelaire children. (tbb)
charles:
the children turned to see a very tall man with very short hair. He was wearing a bright blue vest and holding a peach. (tmm)
nero:
a tall man with a violin under his chin and an angry glare in his eyes. (taa)
georgina:
Dr. Orwell was a tall woman with blond hair pulled back from her head and fashioned into a tight, tight bun. (tmm)
esme:
in walked a tall, slender woman, also dressed in a pinstripe suit. (tee)
Officer Luciana was a very tall woman wearing big black boots, a blue coat with a shiny badge, and a motorcycle helmet with the visor pulled down to cover her eyes. (tvv)
a tall, skinny figure walking down the B aisle STOP. (thh)
jerome:
a tall man wearing a suit with long, narrow stripes down it. (tee)
hector:
A tall skinny man in rumpled overalls stood up from one of the folding chairs as the Chief of Police stepped off the platform with a lipsticked smile on.  (tvv)
jacques:
He wasn’t as tall as Count Olaf, and he wasn’t quite as thin, and there wasn’t dirt under his fingernails, or a nasty and greedy look in his eyes. (tvv)
colette:
a tall skinny woman with curly hair squinting down at them, and in the third was a man with a very wrinkled face who was still asleep. (tcc)
denouement:
He was very tall and skinny, and his arms and legs stuck out at odd angles, as if he were made of drinking straws instead of flesh and bone. (tpp)
even the tall, skinny figure of either Frank or Ernest, who would occasionally rush by them on errands of his own. (tpp)
it was a man, tall and skinny, with his legs and arms sticking out at odd angles, as if he were made of drinking straws instead of flesh and bone. (tpp)
taxi driver from tpp:
the children felt a shadow over them, and looked up to see a tall, skinny figure standing over them. In the darkness the children could not see any of his features, only the glowing tip of a skinny cigarette in his mouth. (tpp)
sir:
The door of the sauna swung open, and Klaus saw a tall, dim figure step into the steam. (tpp)

What were the ulterior motives of Esmé and Olaf?
Tumblr media
Recently, I decided to have a quick glance at the Snicket Wiki (to make sure I don't forget any Snicket-related paraphernalia, as one does) when this pair of sentences caught my eye, regarding the Quagmire sapphires:
"After the death of the Quagmire parents, the sapphires started to be in charge of Esmé Squalor. Why Olaf kept on chasing them after that is unknown."
~ Snicket Wiki
Being such an avid theorist (though my 'recent activity' proves otherwise), I decided to pursue this and investigate a potential reason. I have produced the following:
"After the death of the Quagmire parents" means the period between their death in The Miserable Mill and the introduction of Esmé in The Ersatz Elevator. One thing Esmé has a lot of, apart from money, is greed. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants, as we see throughout the series with the sugar bowl, though she (most likely) lost her life in the venture, leading to point number 1:
Esmé wanted the Quagmire sapphires for herself.
It seems logical enough.
Then to the second point, which is a crucial one:
2. Olaf wanted the Quagmire sapphires for himself, after having seen the Quagmires in Prufrock Prep [TAA].
This is, essentially, the basis of the theory of the exchange(s) between Esmé and Olaf between TEE and THH/TCC.
Esmé and Olaf both want the Quagmire sapphires, but Esmé wants the Sugar Bowl MORE.
This led to:
3. Esmé and Olaf tried to manipulate each other into giving themselves what they want.
And that deal went something like this:
Esmé gives Olaf the Quagmire sapphires once he has helped her find the Sugar Bowl.
For a time, this was alright, until the events of TVV happen, most notably the escape of the Quagmires in Hector's Self-Sustaining Hot-Air Mobile Home. Meaning:
4. The deal starts to break down as Olaf realises he will never get his hands on the Quagmire sapphires, as he's in the middle of the Hinterlands with no idea where the sugar bowl is (Esmé doesn't tell him until the end of the episode).
This meant that Olaf was stuck with Esmé trying to find the Sugar Bowl - if the Quagmires were around, he could've "adopted" them and taken their sapphires by force, either from them or Esmé.
Then the deal/relationship between Olaf and Esmé deteriorates further in THH as:
5. Olaf and Esmé go into Heimlich Hospital confident they will get the Sugar Bowl and be happy, with Esmé getting the Sugar Bowl and handing over the Quagmire sapphires.
6. This doesn't happen - instead: Esmé gets nothing and Olaf gets hold of The Snicket File, which suggests that one of the Baudelaire parents may still be alive. This angers both of them, so they take the troupe to lift their spirits in... well, the realm of spirits.
And it is at this point that Olaf loses interest in the Quagmire sapphires - they're not worth chasing anymore, especially as the Baudelaire fortune is much closer to his clutches... (or so he believes).

some sbg males height:
denouements: 6'5 (195cm). they joke about how they could easily pick up people and take them away, but they never do it. well, except frank pre-canon. frank sometimes has the need to intervene fights; he will pick up one the two brawlers and drag their ass away. also: despite having limbs like 'straws', they're quite strong.
olaf: 6'4 (193cm). olaf came from a family of tall people, so it's no surprise that he grew up to be tall also. olaf likes his height, especially back in happier days when olaf was dating kit. kit had a habit of pulling him down to her level (usually by the tie or collar) so she can kiss him. olaf had no qualms with it.
jacques: 6'1 (185cm). jacques is the tallest of his siblings, and incidentally, this is the same height as their father (kit and lemony are on the shorter side). jacques is threaten by his shorter associates to get kick in the shins, which only happened twice (beatrice and r due to being angry at him at different occasions).
widdershins: 6'0 (183cm). widdershins wouldn't be this tall if he wasn't part of vfd. it's a mix of his genes from his father's side and growing up in a environment that allowed him to be healthy and strong. he's also a bit stocky (fat and muscle), and it's something widdershins feels insecure about (and got dieting books for).
gregor: 5'11 (180cm). the tallest of the anwhistles, gregor's stocky build and his personality doesn't help the illusion he's taller than he appears. gregor wears shoes that does give him an inch of height, but he doesn't want to be taller than 6'0. gregor actually reached his full height in his teen years before he stop growing.
ike: 5'10 (178cm). the funny thing is that ike was the shortest anwhistle as a child, and he had the baby fat to match (he was a rather chubby child). when ike reach puberty, he grew like a beanstalk (and also lost his baby fat and chubbiness). ike had a field day being taller than hector until hector pushed him to the ground.
hector: 5'7 or 5'8 (170cm or 172.7cm). hector's biological family is full of short people, with his father's height (the same as hector's) is consider tall. hector is tall by short people's standards (re: the baudelaires in tvv). hector is okay with his height now, but back then he wasn't. he didn't regret pushing ike to the ground.

No, abych shrnul tuhle sekci o Rejholci.
No, dostali jsme se konečně k našemu zlatému klučinovi, Mirku Danešovi.
(a ano, o gramatických chybách vím, není to moje silná stránka lol)
