I’m honestly a big fan of how SWTOR shows you why and how the Sith get to the state we see them in by the time of the prequels, and why the Rebellion was ultimately successful.
So much of Sith politics is just needless backstabbing, and it’s not only permissible, it’s actively encouraged! They’re doing the Jedi’s job for them, and it’s a core tenant of their entire philosophy to do it. And the way that self-centered attitude bleeds out into the rest of the Empire is just as fascinating.
Imperial officers stake their careers on individual Sith, gambling their lives on a single lord like race horses. They back the wrong Sith, and they’re dead. Agents are forced to clean up the mess left behind the power struggle, suppressing the dissidents who can see the cracks in the system and know the whole thing could easily crumble around them. Living people are treated like tin soldiers and puppets in the petty games of oversized children with lazer swords, and all it does is rot the Empire away from the inside out.
It’s no surprise the Empire keeps having to build itself back up from the brink of extinction; it’s almost entirely self-inflicted.
I think what I really like about SWTOR — compared to other stuff in Star Wars that I've seen — is that you get to see the Sith Empire in a way that allows for very complex characters to exist without needing to redeem them because you can play as an Imperial.
And yes, I know that down the line they sort of resort to little redemption arcs here and there, but for the most part, all four Imperial side stories are full of very complex evil characters and I think it's interesting that we get to see the Empire through these lenses.
It also allows you to play within that setting in different ways than standard Star Wars content usually is (good vs bad and the bad is usually a sad sob story about some padawan-turned-inquisitor or something in that line), making the stories much more compelling, in my opinion.
Overall, you also see the intricacies of everything bad within the Empire and you see how it is such a well-oiled machine created by the Emperor for his own plans, yet there is something so wrong with their meritocracy that the Empire ultimately falls due to its own infighting.
I've played the Sith Warrior origins a million times and I never get tired of the politics it entails. You see these side quests full of Imps and Sith struggling to keep the Empire afloat and you get these companions that show you what it means to be Sith outside of the Empire's bubble.
I wish more Star Wars content showed evil under more detailed lighting, because there is a lot of interesting things that could have been explored with the new content except every single story either has evil that is beyond reasonable or evil that has to be redeemed because they were good once upon a time (and that is booooring).

Not only does he not move on, Garrus actually tries to recreate what Shepard had on the Normandy by recruiting his own squad of misfits.
Garrus and Sidonis recruited a Salarian explosives expert, a Batarian tech specialist, a couple of mercs, security consultants, and former C-Sec agents to wage war on Omega’s crime. He put together his own Normandy-Lite team on Omega, and was fighting off their killers when Shepard came to recruit him for the Suicide Mission.
Garrus needed Shepard. Needed his team. And when that was gone he did his best to recreate it.
Something that really stuck with me while I was playing Mass Effect 2, and that I feel was so important to understanding the relationship between Shepard and Garrus, whether you romance him or not, is that Garrus is your only companion from ME1 who never moved on.
You died. The crew watched you die. Assumedly they grieved you, there was a funeral service, there were tears and all five stages of grief. Things were rough, but eventually life took on a shade of normalcy again.
Kaiden/Ashley got reassigned and continued their work for the alliance. Liara fights tooth and nail to get your body to Cerberus, but then it’s out of her hands and she becomes an information broker. Tali goes back to the Floatilla, like she was always supposed to. Wrex becomes a clan leader. And yes, they’re all fundamentally changed by their time on the Normandy, but no one seems as stuck as Garrus Vakarian.
Because he doesn’t go back to the Citadel. He doesn’t join the Turian Hierarchy. He ships himself off to Omega, one of the most dangerous places he could be, and makes a life out of pissing off the most dangerous people there. It’s kind of a suicide mission, especially after what happened with Sidonis. He kind of figures he’s going to die doing this, but what else can he do?
There is no normalcy for Garrus in a world without Shepard, and I think that’s why he’s always immediately ready to come back to the Normandy. The Normandy, and Shepard, are home for Garrus and that’s why I think romancing him feels like the natural conclusion for so many femme Sheps, because Shepard feels that way too.
Of all the companions, no one needs Shepard to live more than Garrus, and no one needs Garrus more than Shepard. They’re perfectly matched, as lovers, as friends, as soldiers, as whatever they are in your universe and when you’re that perfectly matched with someone, you never quite feel whole without them.
No Shepard without Vakarian.
