The Hundred Fifty Seven Deaths of the Immortal Ethan Ellis: Cast profiles: Ethan Ellis
The man himself (Ethan) - he/him; 24 years old biologically, 310 years old chronologically; Quietly Depressed Optimist in Desperate Need of a Hug and a Nap
Depressed, traumatized, self-sacrificial, dysfunctional, exhausted--what's not to relate to love?
Just woke up during his own autopsy. That's definitely not going to unearth any poorly-buried Issues!
What do you mean endless gallows humor and self deprecation aren't healthy coping mechanisms?
*slaps bruised and blood-stained noggin* This bad boy can fit so much mental illness and metaphor in him.
The result of a necromancer-wannabe's attempts at immortality; ex-human-guinea-pig with all of the attendant moral, philosophical, and psychological conundrums that come with death being a temporary condition.
One of three "successful" experiments. The other two adjusted pretty well, all things considered. Ethan did not.
Alas, they didn't have therapy in colonial America. You know what they did have, though? An abundance of dangerous life paths and causes worth dying for. That's not gonna reinforce any dangerous thought patterns or unhealthy mental states, I'm sure!
Longest streak between deaths has been just shy of 4 years. All but one of them has been his own dang fault. He is fully aware of this, but in a deeper sense, he is entirely unaware of this.
Always cared more about others than himself. This got infinitely worse when he realized he could die without consequences (supposedly).
Animals hate him! and no that is not just the start of a clickbait article. Every animal he's met since getting immortal'd has tried to put him back in the ground. He used to be a cat person, though.
Chronically friendless and self-isolated. People don't handle the dead guy coming back to life very well, and he's gotten more than one witness in life-ruining trouble by reviving in front of them. He finds it easier to just stay away from people on all but a surface level. (Again, I can't imagine that's going to cause problems down the line....)
Travels like an overripe peach, which is to say he is the King of Motion Sickness
Repeated resurrection has turned the man into a caloric dumpster. Over the course of a day and a half he consumes ~30 chicken nuggets, four burgers, a large fry, a medium bag of chips, a popsicle, and half a cup of ice and he's still desperately hungry.
Flip flops between annoying little brother energy and annoyed big brother energy depending on who he's arguing with at the time.
Wants: Everyone and Everything to leave him tf alone (also a shower)
Needs: One good reason to live and way fewer reasons to get himself killed
Immediate goals: Keep his only friends from getting dragged down with him and all his issues
Long term goals: None, and that's rather the point (not that this is a recurring theme in my characters or anything....)
Character arc can best be described as: that quote that's like "Dying is easy, living is hard;" the shift from hope, caring, and love as passive traits to hope, caring, and love as active choices worth making
Favorite things about writing him
The Catharsis. There's a reason so many of my OCs end up with mental illnesses and unhealthy patterns of thought. Ethan is just the most explicit of these self-inserts.
The snarcasm and humor were both challenging and so fun. I'm not a witty person by nature, so it took a bit of perspective shift to get right. I think I got better a dialogue overall by writing him.
He's a very internal and thought-ful person, and it was an interesting balance to write. He always thinks more than he says and feels more than he thinks.
Not to toot my own horn, but his third act breakdown and "Oh Sh*t" moment were a delight to write and some of my strongest writing moments.
His voice is very informal and sarcastic, and it was fun to write genuine horror in a goofball, this-might-as-well-happen sort of way.

I had the weirdest dream I was in a part of Canada's Wonderland, an amusement park I haven't been to in some time, and it randomly had a new section that was basically a Renaissance fair with all of the "new" products from Europe.
I found a box that contained an enormous illuminated copy of a Star Trek novel (not marked as such) that was clearly from centuries ago, really elaborate and printed on animal skins, about a mysterious knight and his loyal wizard named Kirk and McCoy who had just shown up in a kingdom one day and started trying to make things better for the people.
It became clear to me that they'd gone back in time and this was a record of their adventure from someone who had been there. Kirk kept eating elaborate fried meat dishes that McCoy told him not to touch and getting sick from them, and McCoy kept curing the village children of a mysterious illness.
The problem was that it ended on a cliffhanger with McCoy being "disappeared" by another jealous wizard and I had no idea where I was going to find the sequel to a book written so long ago. I wanted to buy the book to prove its existence, but they wanted seven thousand dollars for it and I was forbidden from taking photos because it was a Renaissance fair and modern technology was not allowed. I was hiding in the park until after hours when I could steal the book and make off with it, but then I woke up.

Organization of Multiple Story Projects Helps You Finish Your Writing
There are countless times where the brain cannot handle juggling multiple writing/editing projects at the same time, but there are also days where switching between projects does the trick to keep you disciplined and not burn out with a single project that you end up rejecting for weeks to months at a time. At the end of the day, you have to do what works for you on most days so that you can keep the creative flow of your writing going.
I have reached a point in my hobby where I needed to stop the messy editing routine I’ve been engaging in and organize all the stories I decided to prioritize for the editing process. This is what I did to make me feel good about the progress in my writing goal: I grabbed a blue binder and several sheet protectors, printed out all the projects I wanted to edit off my computer, then stuffed them inside the sheet protectors, and placed them into the binder. As I did this, I didn’t limit the number of writing projects I was going to edit. Instead, I pushed my brain aside and let my heart decide, and rolled with that. I have a list of unpublished stories, but nothing too crazy.
I have written a novella that has undergone two rounds of edits and is currently pending a third one. I have a copy of chapters 21, 22 and 23 for the novel I am writing based on my cartoon characters. The book has undergone two edits and is now pending a third one. I have a deleted chapter from this story that I need to add to the deleted scenes computer file. (I am setting these scenes aside so that I could one day publish this after people have read my book and I can show off my writing process with the world. This will be the most fun thing I do for myself and for others who feel they are alone or falling behind.) Lastly, I have written two separate episodes for the aforementioned cartoon characters that have already undergone one round of edits and are pending a second one. (I am planning to publish a show with them). On the first page of the binger (as you can see in the picture), I have a list of pending writing projects. That little list is there to keep me on track with the chosen writing material I need to finish before publication.
This blue binder isn’t the only thing I have. I also have other binders that hold other printed stories awaiting my attention, like the very first book I have written when I was ready to start 7th grade. I have journals that hold handwritten stories I produced when I was a little girl and a teenager. They are pending computer typing meanwhile I edit the rest of these stories.
This is a random strategy I am engaging in so that I can observe my thought process and determine which of my stories my emotions are taking me to. I think the reason I do this is because my brain gets bored and needs to zhuzh up my writing and editing routine before it can allow me to keep moving forward. This might sound like extra steps to some people, but others understand why I need to work with myself this way. I am sure there are others out there doing this exact thing.
It is a fact that we have different obstacles that stump us according to how our brains function individually as people. We see a lot of resources online that claim they have the ultimate method that works to get your writing done and published faster than expected. However, if I were to write a famous article, I’d tell you that there is no singular method that will work well for everyone to finish a project quickly. What works for you personally that you consider to be normal might be considered unorthodox to society.
Part of keeping yourselves grounded is knowing who you guys are as writers. I keep myself grounded on my writing and editing routines by making these blog posts. They make me happy. They allow me to connect with you guys out there in the world. They remind me that I am not alone as a struggler. I make the habit of occasionally reading about other people’s writing, editing and publishing struggles. Mentally, blogging helps me process my thoughts and feelings and helps figure out why I am or am not doing what I do or don’t do while I take the journey to make this writing dream come true.

Line Editing
What is a line editor (LE): A LE works line by line through your writing to ensure every word, phrase and paragraph are meaningful to your novel and work together to create a great reading experience by clarifying meaning, working on flow and smoothing out any awkward or incomprehensible language.
When to get a LE: LE work specifically from line to line, which means you want all big changes in your manuscript to happen first. That means you want this step done only after completing a developmental editing process to organize your manuscript and have a complete layout that works for your story instead of against it. However, you want to complete this step before tackling spelling and grammar, because otherwise changing words you’ve already grammatically corrected is a waste of your time.
Benefits of having a LE: LE work very specifically with your story to improve overall readability of your story. Ever read a novel and wish your writing could be similar to their, because yours sounds less professional? That is what LE do.
What they do for you:
Work line by line to clarify meaning
delete and add sentences to improve readability
improve the flow of your writing to keep the reader enticed and not have to reread in order to understand or stay engaged
change general words to make your writing more specific and detailed with fewer words
cut words and sentences that are not working or are unnecessary. If your words aren’t working for your story, they’re working against them.
eliminate jargon and cliches
What they won’t do for you:
Work on plot, characters, settings, themes, pacing, premise, point of view,
grammar, spelling, punctuation,
formatting and typesetting the manuscript
When choosing an editor, be sure to be clear as to what you want from them, and what services they can offer you. No two editors are the same. Some may offer more services while others may specialize in more specific ways. Typically, you can ask for a sample of their work to determine if you will match with your editor, or if they’re not the right fit for you.
If you found this helpful, like, comment, share, and follow for more!
Happy Writing!

Now is the time to place your bets on whether or not this hyper self-indulgent doctor superion Vampire the Masquerade AU fic will or won't get to 100 handwritten pages...
#i'm at page 65. there are about four or five scenes to go before the end.#THIS WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS LONG#especially considering how i stopped work on another longer doctor superion fic to do this#i guess we're in for a strange period of longer jillian and suzanne AUs from me. it even feels weird to say that#i know that 20-30k words isn't exactly long for many people's standards but it is to me. i've written longer original work but not fic#anyway. i get all nervous because i want to share the damn thing and can't so here's a useless post about it#just don't hold your breath because i write these longer stories with a sort of powered by the apocalypse mindset#so instead of play to find out it's write to find out#meaning the first manuscript is a flaming pile of shit which will likely be fully rewritten later. AND THEN typed up.#the novel i wrote a few years ago needed to be rewritten. the first five pages were DOUBLED in the revision i never finished lol#that's to give you an idea#so. yeah. the only thing i'll be posting for the time being is drabbles. maybe some meta in between as i haven't done that in a while#silly blabbering

star wars by silm logic
for the silm-sw dual citizens:
I was wondering what would happen if star wars (particularly tbb bc that's the currently-releasing bit of star wars) adhered to silm logic:
Hunter is the local leader of a hidden city (Pabu)
Omega is the heir
Rex is the overall leader of a warring people (clone rebellion)
Hemlock is the local leader of a branch of the Forces of Evil
Palpatine is the overall Enemy
so therefore
Rex and Echo gather an army of escaped clones. They rescue Cody or Wolffe from the Empire. Song and fire are greatly involved.
Themes of rising hope are invoked as they make a stand against the Empire. The clone rebellion grows further.
They are initially victorious and manage to rescue the clone prisoners from Tantiss with few casualties. Hemlock is ousted and flees to the heart of the Empire (but his operation will return in time)
Echo goes to check on the Batch on Pabu and ask them to ally with him and Rex in the upcoming battle.
They march on Coruscant. Things suddenly go disastrously wrong. Cody is killed in battle. Rex faces Palpatine in single combat.
Rex dies tragically.
Eagles.
Echo tells Hunter about the battle. They are delayed on their way and attempt to ride to the rescue. The Batch arrives just after the deaths. Echo is sad.
Pabu is betrayed while the Batch is on Coruscant.
Pabu is invaded by the Empire. Hemlock subjugates the people into his weird clone experimentation program.
Dragons.
The Batch returns to destroyed/invaded Pabu and is unable to intervene.
While attempting to protect their city most of the Batch dies.
Echo is very sad.
Hunter is captured and killed in front of Omega.
Omega escapes and swears an Oath mourns the Batch.
Echo is broken by grief for the ghosts of his past and vanishes.
Omega later becomes a Rebellion leader, carrying the memories of the failed clone rebellion and the haven of Pabu with her.
Echo fades/dies on some random planet as the forgotten remnant of the GAR/Clone rebellion.
#star wars#tbb#the bad batch#tbb s3#redbean talks#um. very much not spoilers?#unless you count hemlock#tbb rex#captain rex#tbb hunter#tbb omega#tbb echo#Also the rest of the batch (tech; crosshair; wrecker; gonky) are not named anywhere outside Manuscript B of The Lost Unfinished WIP#which is only released 20 years later as part of an entirely different series and is also only one episode#and they each have one line of characterization; zero lines of dialogue (one if they're lucky) and are only mentioned in their death scene#can you tell i'm a FoG fan lol#seriously i wish we had a full novel FoG#alas#tbb: Fall of Pabu edition#next i need to do a silm by star wars logic!#imagine tFoG by tbb logic#everyone is about to die - oh look! morgoth just nabbed idril and ran away!#finrod somehow arrives to rescue turgon and the Lords!#everyone survives!#omg though silm by star wars logic#feanor dies; cremates himself; and then three chapters later is miraculously back#SOMEHOW FEANOR RETURNED#and given reembodiment it's actually more plausible!#star wars by silm logic everybody dies. silm by star wars logic feanor is alive and even more people die (because feanor)

there’s like a surprising amount of thomas no shinzou academic essays but one thing i don’t agree about is that they all say juli has some form of internalized homophobia. simply not true
#romantic friendships & homosexuality is accepted in schlotterbetz#juli felt shame for other things#it wasn’t because thomas was a boy. it wasn’t because siegfried was a man#he was ashamed for being attracted to siegfried because he knew what type of guy he was#brutish evil etc#and he thought he was tainted from that & the abuse he suffered#and it gets to that point where i understand why people think juli struggles with his own sexuality#i think it’s just a matter of his own ‘purity’ and how he viewed that concept#anyways.#my friend put it nicely: you really have to read thomas thru the lens of the works it was inspired from#those early gay 19th century novels set in boarding schools#and not so much as a modern story#with modern concepts of what it means to be gay#Anyways rant over lul#kazeki is a different story it’s internalized homophobia level 590000#manuscript

In your opinion is there still space for new authors (that don’t write YA) in the publishing industry?
I'm guessing you mean the traditional publishing industry. I’d be a hypocrite if I told you to burn down the Big Five publishing houses that take up space in your head, but you gotta understand that in addition to the shit that’s always been wrong, there’s a now a huge labor issue on account of the buyouts and layoffs last year, not to mention that the recent layoffs in the journalism industry = less book coverage = less publicity = fewer sales = more layoffs of editorial staff. The chances of you getting a fair shake with that crowd any time soon are not great. Mind you, this is provided you’ve already locked down a literary agent who either likes your shit or thinks it will sell (birth of first child<the purple 😎 on QueryTracker when you get Offered Representation). In any case, if you’re pitching literary fiction, get acquainted with reputable small presses, micro-presses, and indie publishers—some take unsolicited manuscripts if you aren't repped.
#every literary agent i know has SUCH a fucking backlog of queries because of the editorial layoffs at the publishing houses#since the publisher doesn't want to pay editors to futz with manuscripts the agents have to pitch shit that's basically ready to go#there's this idea that you can write a novel on a bunch of napkins and if it's worthwhile someone will spruce it up so it's fit to print#but now agents gotta be very fucking picky and they aren't going to pick the Great American Napkin#seriously please stop querying your unreadable typo-infested nanowrimo unabomber manifestos...my friends are dying#anonymous#assbox#one thing i'm seeing more of is writers who started out small press/indie publishers getting contracts with the big boys#so that's another way to skin the proverbial cat
