So, one of the most interesting things that's come from my recent exercises in writing the Olympians as young deities is all of the very fun and somewhat painful conversations that come from the young deities acquiring and consequently settling into their domains.
Apollo and Artemis especially have been really fascinating under the microscope. They start off identically, with extremely similar interests and similar domains over the hunt and wilderness. They spend their days under the stars and foraging for fruit and dancing and singing in the fields, two rustic god-children exploring and learning together. Then Apollo goes off on his own to slay Python.
Now, a lot of things change when Apollo kills Python. That is the act which transforms the bow from a tool of survival and sport to an instrument of murder, bloodshed and ultimately war. It is Apollo's first act of wrath which separates him from Artemis - both spiritually because she has not yet shed blood herself as a goddess and physically because it leads to his exile. Most importantly however, the slaying of Python is the act that grants Apollo his knowledge.
If violence is what first separates Apollo from Artemis then it is knowledge which keeps them apart.
This can refer to a lot of things; that Artemis continued to be at home with the wild beasts of the forests and mountains while Apollo grew to prefer the domesticated sheep and cattle, that Artemis continued to avoid mortals while Apollo grew to know their ways and endeavoured to teach them more. The point that has been the most interesting to me however has been Artemis, who remains free of slaughter, and thus remains pure and Apollo, who becomes acutely and entirely too aware of it, and thus must be constantly purified.
Apollo's infatuation with medicine specifically is the place where this becomes most apparent. When he leaves for his exile to travel as a mortal, without nectar or ambrosia, without power, Apollo is without the privileges of the divine for the very first time. He sweats, he smells, he grows weary when he travels, he grows hungry and thirsty. He experiences fatigue and nausea, the fever of sickness, the chill of infection, the delirium of poison. The blood Apollo shed does not only make him impure spiritually, it strips him of the purity of his birth and station. Likewise, medicine is not a divine practice. What use do the unkillable immortals have for something as finicky as medicine when they have nectar and ambrosia? Apollo however, knows of the pains of the flesh and the suffering of the mortal coil. He pursues medicine in all its horrors and difficulties because of the knowledge he gained with blood.
Artemis then, cannot understand the medical Apollo. When her brother returns possessed by this spectre of ill-gained knowledge, she does not recognise him. Who is this boy who scores the deer and studies the shape of their intestines before he cooks them? What good is there in rescuing a chick with a broken wing? The Apollo-of-the-Wild in her memories would have done the correct thing and left the thing for dead - let the forest take what is its due. Who is this Apollo whose hands are always stained to the wrist in the blood and gore of the living? What is his fascination with the mechanics of mortal bodies? Artemis does not know and Apollo does not tell her.
That has, by far, been my favourite effect of the whole Python watershed moment to explore recently.
#ginger rambles#apollo#artemis#greek mythology#pursuing daybreak posting#There are actually quite a few parallels with the Christian Adam and Eve in this whole exploration of Apollo and Artemis pre and post Pytho#Blood-soaked Apollo - much like Apollo of the Ashes - is one of my favourites because it always leads to such fascinating questions#Like it's clear that Apollo did not shy away from butchery and slaughter and if things like hepatoscopy is any indication#he needed to do these things frequently in order to keep sharp#Medicine is its own beast tbh#Including the differences between mortal and immortal medicine#Yes Asclepius would eventually come to surpass him but Apollo was the pioneer and the study of medicine#of studying diseases and creating cures for them is not a pretty thing#Combined with Apollo's prophecy I imagine he had his hands full#Though Zeus would've taught him a few things no doubt considering how vast his own knowledge is#God I love Apollo's wall of horrors actually#Like fr if you are squeamish do not go into this man's room you will cry and throw up though not necessarily in that order#cw gore mention#cw blood

I wanted to share some wee thoughts about Ratio’s E6 art & why I believe it is a symbolic parallel to Michelangelo’s David. This speaks to both Ratio’s humanist beliefs and possible future plot points.
Ratio’s E6 is Vincit Omnia Veritas or Truth Conquers All. I’ve heard it claimed (although I have no idea if it’s explicitly stated anywhere?) that the character’s E6 art represents them at their innermost core, an honest and deeply vulnerable shard of themselves. Evoking David here is an interesting choice; the biblical figure who, using nothing but a stone and sling, took down the tyrannical Goliath. The parallel is perhaps as simple as this: Ratio views himself - and by extension the truth - as the underdog, someone never accepted into the Genius society, forever to be kept from Nous and THEIR gaze, but nonetheless will, in the end, prove himself the final victor. Truth will topple the seemingly unconquerable, whatever that might be.
But I also think Michelangelo’s David is a specifically interesting parallel to draw on from a historical perspective. Ratio is pretty much the textbook definition of a renaissance man - he is a philosopher, a scholar, interested in medicine and science and the vast array of human achievement. He speaks in Latin (the language of education during the renaissance in Europe that allowed the transmission of information without having to rely on translation) while heavily styling himself on Ancient Greek symbols and drawing from Greek philosophy (often seen at the time as more ‘sophisticated’ and interested in ‘wisdom’ than the contemporary ‘militaristic’ Romans).
Michelangelo’s David was the first colossal marble statue to be carved since antiquity, and it came to be a symbol of the renaissance itself. This is interesting to me for Ratio and what I believe are his humanist beliefs. Humanism was an ideal that propagated during the renaissance that championed the belief that man had beauty, dignity and worth that deserved as much respect and adoration as any deity. Keep in mind this philosophy was emerging following the Middle Ages and at a time where religious institutions across Europe held exorbitant and sometimes absolute power. David as a statue is an ode to the sublime beauty of the human body, completely unashamed and uninhibited in his gigantic nakedness (Doctor! You’re huge!) retaliating against the idea that prominent idea at the time that man’s body is inherently sinful. The humanists sought to recenter humanity, and David became a symbol of man’s independence against the seemingly unconquerable might of the Church.
Consider how Ratio centres humanity in his Simulated Universe project, how he values every life, how interested he is in constant self-improvement. How this symbol - of not just the renaissance but of the re-centring of humanity itself - becomes an echo of an effigy fixed in the centre of his soul.
Ratio has never - as far as I’m aware? - stated or hinted at any desire to overthrow the Aeons or even disparage or rubbish them, but it is clear to me that he believes in the strength man can draw on despite them, through sheer force of intelligence and clever planning and fiercely independent thought, the weak can ultimately overcome, or at least stand shoulder to shoulder with, the strong. Perhaps this will become a more pertinent plot point in the future - who knows? - but this was fun to chew through nonetheless 🫶
#ratio#dr ratio#HSR#my witterings#Honkai star rail#important to note that the humanists weren’t necessarily purely secular#some Christian humanists see David as a sublime symbol of man in gods image#but I thought this was interesting anyway#meant this to be a short thing but then rambled on OOPS#gets me thinkin tho abojt Rat being so Huge during 2.1#all his statue imagery and stuff too#just like the actual statue of David is fuckinnnn massive#which is mad right cause he was meant to be a smallie#but again it’s putting the focus on the strength and indomitable size of the human spirit right?#blabbity blah I love Ratio lol I hope they keep playing with him in future patches hhhh#I also really don’t want to come off like one of those statue pfp retvn fashy people#nor do I mean to romantacise any of the figures / movements I talk about#just playing in the sandbox here with my toys lol

well i'm comforted by the knowledge that book!armand has some faith in the christian god (and, like, that this faith is vital to his character) because it means theres absolutely no fucking way they'd just do that one-to-one in the show and so we're one step closer to an exploration of show!armand's relationship with islam
#iwtv#armand#the vampire armand#armand iwtv#interview with the vampire#i cant find a source on whether assad is muslim or not like i know there was that one interview where he said he grew up in a#muslim community#but that doesnt necessarily mean hes muslim himself/was raised muslim/if his parents are muslim#but i still think theres a good to fair chance that when he was called in to the writers room to discuss show!armand and to#collaborate with the writers over how show!armand is different to book!armand#that this was because armand's weird relationship with faith in the show will be concerned with islam rather than christianity#(and also because assad is south asian and show!armand is a delhiite but that so far isnt relevant to his character in the same way#that i know religion WILL be. because thats how it is in the books)#im lowkey trying to watch as many interviews as possible so that i can envision s3 in my mind. patient needs s3 to live.#anyway we poppin the biggest bottles when armand has a complicated relationship with islam in s3. or something#also i have something else to say but it's a pretty major book spoiler so this is your warning to look away#if im right about this. i wonder whatll change about armand attempting suicide#because the christian conception of heaven hell and repentance doesnt exist in islam#so yea. i wonder how exactly the suicide attempt will be characterised/if it will be to do with his faith in god or something else#because its lestat fucking with him that leads him to try and kill himself anyway? hes like hey i met the devil. god is real btw#not sure lestat has a keen enough understanding of islam to pull off the equivalent but yanno#(maybe that points to show!armand being christian and not muslim. but thatd be boring and i dont like that idea🧡)#thunder rambles#armandposting

Dear Conservative Christians:
Your god is like the cybertruck of deities— Relatively new, responsible for many casualties, and has completely failed to deliver on any of its promises. I mean, just look at how many rapture deadlines he's already missed.

to alienate students from Christianity is to alienate them from their own national history/heritage
#Bibles and the Ten Commandments and Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God belong in public schools FOR ACADEMIC REASONS#if you are unfamiliar with the Bible you received a crappy second-rate education#respublica#mobile#x#Christianity#but also public schools are necessarily charged with moral guidance of students#because they occupy the bulk of those students’ time#and education necessarily imparts moral guidance#and for that reason ALSO the Bible should be in public schools

the practice of taking multiple names... i do wish it was a bit more supported in places like the united states. i love my family name, my family means the world to me,
but there's also the last name of berri that i'd love to take. it was the second name that stuck with me after "mira", and i've nicknamed myself "miraberri" in a lot of things over the past year i've had it...
...i suppose the other trouble is that i've already changed my legal name once, and so now i'd have to pay for it to be changed again... ahh, the wonders of capitalism and rigid social systems.
wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a society that embraced Change?
that freely allowed, even encouraged changing oneself? embracing the fact that everything will change eventually, and must do so for things to not become stagnant?
that some things might not be right as they are, despite the state of things being comfortable for many people? that the status quo, or our time-honored traditions, aren't infallible, perfect concepts?
i guess the idea is too much for some people to understand.
maybe some day, that'll change, too.
#i've held that belief for as long as i can remember really holding beliefs about society...#it's really funny finding someone i can identify with so well- in both name and ideals- in media i wasn't expecting to#faith's the one thing i still haven't necessarily narrowed down fully in myself. like i know i'm not christian- but i'm not atheist either.#i've had an idea of what afterlife i hope for... but that doesn't really mean much if i never get to see it until the end- now does it?#i suppose if there's one thing i can believe in... it's the ability for things to change- for life to take its own path...#even if it feels like a frustrating endless cycle sometimes...#some day... something will change. it always will. and suddenly you won't feel so trapped anymore.#because if everything's a cycle... your sadness had a start to it- it'll have an end to it as well! it'll come back around!#and everyone... everyone has the power to change things for the better! for themselves- and for the world!#so... if i had to choose one god to believe in... i think it'd have to be a god of change.#so i guess... thanks in stars and time. for helping me reach a decision about faith.#if you read my little tag ramble... thank you as well.

christianity is insane to me bc in like 90% of academic discourse on ✨why is it so violent✨ they blame it on monotheism as a whole and claim monotheism is inherently violent and intolerant and all that is a rant for another day but
I'm constantly just sitting here like
[points at the roman empire]
#LIKE THERE'S YOUR FUCKING ANSWER#OR DID WE ALL FORGET ABT THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE?????#GOD......#I've had to read so many works where they try to work out the puzzle of why christianity is so violent and I'm like#it's. it's literally the romans. it's literally. it's the romans#stop blaming the jews it's the romans#in fact most if not all of the violent stories of intolerance in the tanakh were not historical events#they were added at later times during exile when jews were Facing religious violence#so to claim it is inherently violent is insane to me like the Only instance we have#is the situation in israel and even then it doesn't necessarily have all that much to do w Judaism as like.... a creed#anyway I'm gonna stop rambling it's the religious studies major sorry#religious studies rambling

Looked up the name Pelageya cus even though I’m basically out of room to add anything, thought it was worth checking the meaning of her name, which took me to the wikipedia disambiguation page which linked to the saint of her name and
Pelagia's story is attributed to James[4][5] or Jacob[6][5] (Latin: Jacobus), deacon of the church of Heliopolis (modern Baalbek).[7] He states that Margarita was the "foremost actress" and a prominent harlot in Antioch. …
She had two of her slaves trail Nonnus to his residence and then wrote him on wax tablets, calling herself "sinful" and a "servant of the devil" but seeking mercy from God, who "came down to earth not for the sake of the righteous but to save sinners".[5] …
The archbishop was informed and sent the deaconess Romana to clothe her in the baptismal gown. Nonnus took her confession and baptized "Margarita" under her birth name Pelagia, with Romana serving as her godmother. …
The night before it came time to remove her baptismal gown, she stole out in the dark wearing one of Nonnus's chitons. She headed for Jerusalem, where she built a cell on the Mount of Olives. She lived there for three or four years, disguising herself as a male recluse and eunuch under the name Pelagius.[5] She then died, apparently as a result of extreme asceticism, which had emaciated her to the point she could no longer be recognized. -Wikipedia
#pelageya in the book who is gluttonous fun love it cute#not necessarily relevant per se but we enjoy the gender stuff#not to say sweet necessarily doesn’t:#the only thing i’ve seen him say on the subject#was a concise tweet#defending an interpretation of trans jesus#the daily mail was excoriating#because#biblically — in the actual text — God is referred to in places#with both male and female pronouns#and thus in the christian tradition that jesus /is/ God#therefore jesus must by necessity embody both genders too

also old people think you can easily acquire any job on earth by virtue of having a bachelor's degree and it is bonkers fucking yonkers. this nice christian lady was trying to convince me i could just go get a hospital lab technician job because i have a "science degree" ma'am i could not even get a response from the local farm store paying minimum wage with this degree. and those lab jobs require specific certifications and degrees of their own which often take years and many thousands of dollars to complete. but yeah maybe i should try to "go work in a lab"
#also i just realized i should have worked the christian angle with her and said some shit about god's plan for me she was literally talking#about how everyone has a calling and i could have done such a sweet christian girl moment and guilt tripped her into ignoring my low income#but i forgot. and i'm a bad liar 😒#i do still think about the sterilization processing job that i got one email back and nothing else from and That was a salary and bonus#that would have been livable but here i am and animal doctors hate their staff more than human ones do#i don't hate the job and currently i suck at it so i don't even necessarily feel like it's an unfair wage but it's not livable for here lol#me

hypothetical struggle between Christianity and paganism in bbc merlin? 👀 one that's very neurodivergent? 👀 do tell
Okay, so Athurian times take place in the early dark ages. Which was probably a weird time for religion in Britain. Because the Roman occupation had just come to an end, leaving behind the structure of catholicism at least with those in positions of power. But religious beliefs were still in the process of blending together with the local practices and other religions, leading to some odd gnostic beliefs. Obviously, bbc merlin doesn't talk about Christianity within Camelot but I think we can assume the catholic church would have a position at the round table. Presumably, Arthur would grow up instructed in catholic belief, go to mass, and have bishops or whatever advising him. He would rule by Devine right, sanctioned by the pope and magic would be characterized as demonic. And that somehow raises the stakes for me, imaging magical merlin within the walls of a very catholic Camelot.
I just have this image of merlin in the back of a cathedral as Arthur attends mass. Kneeling in this beautiful building, head bowed low as the congregation sings praise to a foreign God in a foreign tongue. A God that would apparently have merlin tied to a stake and burned alive. And merlin choking out his empty prayers, echoing in the verbal praise under the isolation of his nonbelief and magical association. Full of fear and venom.
The hypothetical struggle I imagine is one of catholic enforcement pushed by Arthur's religious advisors and Arthur's morality. Because Arthur is a good person and slaughtering a people on the basis religion is insane. So, what does it mean for Arthur if he stops listening to his advisors and starts accepting magic? He has to contend with a spiritual struggle, not just the secular issues presented in the show. And I would looooooove to watch that. The bending of Arthur's beliefs into something more flexible and less rigidly Christian according to the church of the time
#my knowledge on this topic in terms of historical accuracy is blurry so im im wrong: pls for the love of god correct me#but idk if arthur was catholic the entire structure of his idea of the universe would have to change if he started accepting magic#and i think that would be a super interesting transition. where would he land? would he shift to being a more gnostic style Christian?#lose his faith? idk id probably make him like my dad who thinks hell is a human construct and that all are welcom in the kingdom of heaven#and that people should just be kind to eachother. very les mis to love another person is to see the face of god#bc i loooove that idea. i find it fascinating. idk i just think religion is interesting#bc its like how ppl fundamentally understand the universe to work and that is so wild. like i can understand why it was so important in ye#oldy times lol. idk im just a bit fixated on it atm. like its the type of obsession thst feels too big for my head so its straining at the#seams. its also weird bc since its religion my brain is doing that awful thing where its questioning my interest in the topic like r u#questioning ur lack of faith? and im like bro no this is academic interest leave me alone. bc im prone to intrusive thoughts and obsessive#behavior. so thsts fun. but its not too unmanageable rn. so its interesting#idk i probably sound unhinged. lmao i headcanon ✨️ catholic!arthur ✨️ and his fall from grace in the eyes of the church rip#ay religion in not necessarily bad but human institutions are usually fucked#merlin rambling#unrelated

if i head the words "jesus" "sacrifice" and "himself" in a sentence again ill scream.
#sorry im back in my anti organized religion specifically white nationalist christianity arc#im always there ofc#but i remembered if any spiritual/religious label applies to me its satanist#with zen and jungian mystic elemts#i use zen as a catchall for the perceived commonalities btwn buddhism hindusm and taoism#but at the heart of it all#im frsure a satanist. not that i necessarily align with tst in every way but#call it my aquarian nature enhanced by my capricorn elements buuut#(my mecury and moon are cap)#(enhancing my aqua sun venus uranus neptune)#but the heart of satanism is the contrarian nature of it.#it is literally an idea that combats common christian interpretation of the bible and the institutions that follow it in the U.S#ultimately jesus didnt sacrifice himself and lucifer did not want to be controlled paternally. even yahweh is flawed. he is an archetype#personally i feel in the human consciousness yahweh/father god/jupiter ETCCCCC learned from that#and his golden child... he probably didnt want to lose another child. JS. probably less of a jesus died so we dont go to hell and more of a#father was sick of losing children#this has strayed from bible concretism bc i do not believe in that#i believe its possible anyone and everyone in the bible was a real person maybe#but ultimately all religious text are archetypal and metaphorical stories#like its sooo funny when ppl say the bible says something or the other and its super literal#like the point... woosh#anyway.#satanism is my jam cause its contrarian and at its core sympathizes with those cast out of privilege#plus the whole i desire an abortion for relgious reasons is not only hilarious trollwise but also like#some peoples bodies are their temples yk?#not me personally but like its valid and that pisses christians off so bad!#and i love pissing uppity nonspiritual christians off!!#i dont hate christians or members of organized religions i have a distaste for the institutions imposing its rules upon nonconsenting people

Oddly specific but did anyone else's parents describe brutal torture methods in excruciating detail to them (under the pretense that they could/would happen to them) or was that just me?
#if anyone is wondering the context for telling a child (yeah i was about 8 or smthn) these things i shall explain#tw for holocaust mention#so my parents were pretty extreme in their religion- they called themselves Christians but were perhaps closer to some cults#and my parents held the general belief that a lot of shit would go down during or before the rapture- that is the second coming of god#not just plagues wars and pestilence but also a second holocaust#in which gunmen working under the antichrist would break into every home and shoot anyone who didnt renounce god#(btw this was considered the only 'unforgivable' sin in their religion meaning you either get shot or go to hell)#so i was of course encouraged to get shot in this scenario. at 8 years old#not only that but apparently for some reason they (the gunman/antichrist people) were going to take us to... camps essentially#and use various torture methods trying to get us to join them#a lot of those torture methods were described to me- things like removing fingernails the brazen bull and rat torture#and i was always terrified of those things#i was also told very emphatically that this WOULD happen in my lifetime. the rapture that is not necessarily torture#but it was just always a possibility that one day i would have to be a martyr#i used to have a lot of nightmares about the rapture happening and how i had chosen wrong and denounced god#scared me half to death#oh yeah i was also told there would be nuclear war? so i was always irrationally afraid of that too#everytime i heard an airplane i would think it was a bomb#anyway this is why i appreciate people not trying to reconvert me as you can imagine this sucked

for someone who claims to not be a christian you sure do use a lot of terms
yk I could’ve gone on a rant abt western-centered learning system & normalization of that which also undoubtedly forces their religion on ppl doing that but I’m going to spare us both
#Because…I am not. I was never raised to be#However while being taught english & also while learning by myself I was not thought saying “oh my god” or “bless you” was a christian thin#it was just how I was taught ++ I don’t think neither of those are necessarily christian things?? Might be wrong on that idk#FEEDBACK
