Watching Joong's Hurt Me Please MV with the context of how episode 6 ended and how this is likely a song about Fadel's thoughts and feelings about Style after Finding Out, I wanted to take a deeper look at the lyrics.
I have transcribed the English lyrics on Youtube side by side with a fan translated version (credit: bl_zonee on Twitter) just because there's different shades of meaning between them that I find really interesting and I'm curious which one is the more accurate translation or if both are valid, but just give different nuance. (Perhaps a mutual who understands Thai would be willing to give some insight? *u*)
Verse 1 makes a lot of sense to me: Fadel must be wondering how Style could be so cruel ("unkind" / "heartless") because every instance of Style being honest and asking for honesty in return, all of Style's genuine desperation to bare his heart to Fadel in episode 5 and 6, now looks like a calculated, cruel deception.
And after being so afraid to reveal his secret to Style for fear that it would make Style walk away from him, there's a painful irony in Fadel now wishing Style had walked away before. Because the betrayal hurts so much more now that Fadel has given in to his heart.
The chorus is where the nuance between the translations gets interesting.
The Youtube version seems almost like Fadel is taunting Style, putting up a front that he can take the pain Style is dishing out and more. It's like he's hiding behind the bravado of being able to handle the hurt, and even more.
The MV also depicts Style smiling sadistically after slapping Fadel, as if he's enjoying the pain he's inflicting. Meanwhile, Fadel looks up almost in adoration, a strange softness in his eyes at odds with how cruelly he's being treated. The knowledge of Style's betrayal has turned Style into a monster in Fadel's mind, one which he cannot help but to still have soft, affectionate feelings.
But the fan translation sounds much more hurt and accusatory. Fadel is expressing his pain and anguish much more plainly and "you did this to me" is a line that demands responsibility.
In both translations, though, the last line ("can't get enough" / "enjoying the pain") gives us a hint that Fadel isn't willing to give Style up even now. Despite the pain, despite feeling as if he's simultaneously burning up and drowning, there's a part of him that still wants this. That still wants Style.
Interestingly, as Fadel sings the last line he begins to visibly struggle against the rope tying him to the chair. The soft look vanishes and in place is a determination and shadow that spells trouble for Style. The shock is wearing off and Fadel is starting to fight back.
Verse 2 is where the agony really hits, for me.
In both versions, Fadel recognises the way Style's love was (maybe still is?) precious to him ("your love feeds my soul" / "your love nourished my heart"). But because Style's love is a lie, it's transformed into a weapon ("poison"). It twists Style's love into a source of "hurt" to Fadel.
Which is why I think both versions have a line where Fadel admits that there's a part of him that wants Style to keep hurting him -- or rather, to keep loving him; because these are the same thing to Fadel now -- ("hurt me, make me feel used" / "the more I was hurt the more I enjoyed it") whilst also remaining accusatory ("the more I loved, the more sorrow/I suffered").
The lines about "nothing left to write about our love" / "our story" also feel very pointed and final. A closing of a chapter; a closing of the possibility of their former, uncomplicated happily ever after. Style has nothing left to write (report) back to his superiors (the police) because Fadel's love is already complete and his deception has reached the inevitable conclusion of Fadel being found out/destroyed.
All this happens while we see Style continuing to threaten Fadel with a golf club and an almost crazed expression of glee juxtaposed with flashes of Fadel and Style in much happier times.
Also the fact that this line comes with this scene where Fadel lets Style kiss him despite āknowingā itās all a lie *sobs uncontrollably*:
The first chorus comes back once and the music reaches a plateau. We are clearly preparing for a drop or a modulation and we get exactly that (twice!) with the second chorus:
Here, both versions converge: Fadel is angry, he's furious. Style hurt him and he's going to repay all of it and more ("you'll hurt [by much more]" / "you must suffer more than I did"). The lyrics tell us that, while Fadel cannot take back the hurt (take back his love), he can certainly ensure he isn't alone in the suffering (this love will also hurt Style).
It is at this part where my heart sank as I realised that Fadel's "I think I love you" line in episode 6 now takes on a much more sinister tone.
Because I think that discovering Style's betrayal was also what made Fadel realise the truth of his love for Style; the very agony he was in was the sign that Fadel's heart was lost to him. But even as it is true, I also think he still made the choice to ruin Style in the same breath. Because if Style could use Fadelās love as a weapon then Fadel is going to use it (Fadelās love) to hurt Style too.
A decision was made in this moment, and everything Fadel does afterwards in this scene is deliberate.
There is, however, one piece of hope:
Despite Fadel's expressed fury, what the MV shows us is Fadel breaking out of his bonds, shoving Style back and punching him once and then:
For all his anger, for all his rage, for all his threats of manifold vengeance, what we see is Fadel pressing close and kissing Style; once on the lips, and once on his chest (heart), all while the lyrics makes space for one last plea:
("don't betray me")
For me, its the way the line is shown together with this direct visual parallel between the ignorant Fadel in the past (left) and the Fadel of the present who has seen through Style's deception (right) that I find particularly compelling. Even now, even at the point of Fadel discovering Style's betrayal, there is still hope for forgiveness.
Because Fadel cannot help himself. Because Style made Fadel's bleeding heart whole again; and it beats, it feels, and despite how much it hurts, what Fadel still wants more than anything else in the world -- desperately and simply -- is Style.
#joong archen#the heart killers#thk ost#thk meta#fadelstyle#hui talks thai bl#hui talks thk#another detail i loved was how the style that is beating fadel up looks NOTHING like the style we see in the show#he's dressed in dark colours; he's cold and sinister and seemingly unfeeling; he doesn't even MOVE the way style does in the show#but the style in the flashback scenes very much DOES looks like the style in the show - warm and affectionate and playful#and notably in all the flashback scenes style and fadel are always in the same state of undress (tank tops)#because that suggests an equal level of vulnerability#ahh i loved this although i hated it#but ngl i felt a bit comforted by the ending#i mean i know the narrative/genre/source already tells us that we'll get our happily ever after#but a part of me is so so grateful that the potential for this forgiveness is still present even NOW; even at the point of discovery#because that shows just how much fadel LOVES [intentional present tense] style#dunk natachai#did a fantastic job with all the ārolesā he had in this mv#but dammit joong was BREATHTAKING#also the almost screech-like quality his voice takes on during the 2nd modulation which mimics the way fadel's fury has reached a frenzy#its crazy he's crazy THEY'RE CRAZY <33333

This Week in BL - So Many GREAT Kisses!
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
(Please notice I am now using 6 dots in all ellipses because according to Taiwanese BL that's how we queers roll. Who am I to argue?)
Sept 2024 Week 3

Ongoing Series - Thai
Jack & Joker (Thai Mon IQIYI) ep 2 of 12 - A most excellent glow up. And itās still a great show. And I cannot wait to see the many different faces of War. Bring on the Leverage of One action-packed mess. I'm waiting. Ā

Monster Next Door (Thai Thurs Gaga ) ep 9 of 12 - Iām gonna say this because it drives me crazy. Why are boys in BL, when out and about the countryside, always dressed inappropriately for Thailand? If itās hot, takeoff your damn jacket. I donāt mean to be crass or crazy or whatever. But donāt wear a jacket when itās 90° with 90% humidity. In Thailand, jackets are for malls. Meanwhile, Iām an extrovert and that still seemed like an exhausting trip. Although, I suppose they didnāt show all the drive time in the van, when everyone is asleep.
Meanwhile, why are the sides so frustrating in this show? Authentic friends-to-lovers is always a slog. Finally a kiss! And a decent one.
New character? Aw! Hi Yu!!!! Gosh Putter is so cute.
Where were we? Oh yes, Beer is now heartbroken. Always the great fear in F2L that the friendship will be destroyed as a result. And itās a decent fear.Ā
On a completely different note, I cannot help but wonder when somebodyās chue len is Beer, if that is because beer was involved in their conception. Like, itās the name you give your "oops baby" from that drunken night at the club. Donāt mind me. Iām just over here in the corner being crass.

Battle of the Writers (Sun YT) ep 8 of 12 - That was one of the cutest wake up sequences ever depicted. Utterly adorable. And now heās blind again? Oh my God this is such a soap opera, I canāt even. Meanwhile, wicked ice prince finally made his move. Gah! Why arenāt we getting more of this couple? I always love the sides best with this production house.
I Saw You in My Dream (Weds Gaga) ep 10 of 12 - I love a hard fraught game of badminton. Even though we actually didnāt see play. YoIng claiming was so cute!!! And their shower kiss was v hot. Yay little show! Also cute use of the punishment trope!
Kidnap (Fri YT) ep 3 of 12 - The weight upon the shoulders of our idiot good guy kidnapper continues to pile up. So does the affection. The dude playing Q has sanpaku eyes. Cool. Heās not a particularly good actor though.Ā Rough because everyone around him is giving their very best.
The problem is. I'm noticing. I shouldn't be noticing all the talent trying so hard. That usually means there is something wrong with the story, or there was something wrong on the set.
I don't know what to say at this juncture except I have the sinking suspicion this might not actually be a good show. (Covers head and cowers. Don't hate me.) I'd loved to be proved wrong, but my faith is GMMTV is only about 50% these days. And it probably should be lower.

Addicted Heroin (Thai Tues WeTV) ep 6 of 10 - I was so confused by how we suddenly got on a trip together, that I went back and re-watched the previous installment. And it still isnāt explained. So I have no idea why our leads are on a trip but apparently thatās the next trope to hit. I also have no idea how they're suddenly boyfriends. Iām just generally confused by this episode. Itās like an alt reality. We skipped over all of the stuff where they actually got into a relationship. In general I wasnāt wild about this episode.
The Trainee (Sun YT) ep 12fin - The most realistic thing about this show is that everybody is everybody elseās ex on any given set. I feel that in my bones. Or do I mean boner?
Frankly, both actors look better after a glow up and I guess pretending to be more their actual ages suits them? Considering what was actually done to invokeĀ youth (a lot of the shine and gloss) aging them was an anti-glow up. A great mattification? Well...... this was a somewhat lackluster finale. (Thank you, thank you, the pun was unplanned. It's a gift.)
I donāt know. I guess I wanted to see Jane suffer? Work HARD to get the kid he abandoned back? I wouldāve liked to have seen Ryan a little bit more competent and capable and his job. Maybe dating someone else. But I also do not want any more episodes. This was more than enough. So instead no separation, just boyfriends and a montage of their lives together, getting new and better jobs, moving in together, being supportive and sweet, etc... LOOK: Itās never a good sign when I immediately want to rewrite the show that I just saw.
In conclusion:
A story about a group of interns at a commercial video production company. While I genuinely love OffGun, Iām not convinced this was a good vehicle for them. Is it terrible for me to say, I miss their PickRome days? I donāt think theyāve ever had rolls that suited them better. Still, theirs was the best storyline in this ensemble piece masquerading as a BL, although they still fumbled the ending. Thus, I enjoyed about a 1/3 of it as much as possible, and 2/3 of it less than conceivable. 7/10Ā and I seriously considered dropping it to a 6/10 so don't push me.
Love Sick 2024 (Thai Sun iQIYI) ep 1 of 15 - Not gonna lie I was very skeptical. But I like it fine. Better than I expected because itās been changed just enough. But it does need to stay changed. I donāt know what Iām trying to articulate here butā¦... I guess weāll see.
Live in Love (Sun Gaga) ep 3 of 5 - Itās cute in a weird disjointed way. Iām enjoying it enough, I guess. I do like how forthright and direct Kla is.Ā
Bad Guy My Boss (Thai Sun Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Ah. Bully romance. My old frenemy. Of course making this office based means +10 for workplace harassment. Well well well. This will be red flag party town I see. How VERY old school yaoi.Ā Itās all very Cdrama CEO = dudes in suits walking on parquet (minus all the gay sex of course.) The jumping around between times and unfinished scenes is very strange. Is this Starhunter chaos only applied to a timeline?
Imma say this so they hear it at the back. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE HAIR. If you do time jumps: change. the. hair. It's the easiest and best clue if you aren't going to apply a filter or other cinematography tricks. JUST CHANGE THE DAMN HAIR STYLE.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
The On1y One (Taiwan Thurs Gaga) eps 9-10 of 12 - And now we all start using six dots in ourā¦ā¦? A new coded way to indicate that one is into BL? I did think we were in a slight mire with ep 9, too much teacher filler. Not enough time spent with our boys. Meanwhile, sports day. Pouty Baby utilizing the power of Ge, in front of all of the classmates who do not realize how hard he is flirting and activating babygirl = one of the greatest things ever to happen on my screen. Essentially this was a version of the claiming trope, only nobody knew it but the two of them. Fucking genius. Yes, I watched it multiple times. Then babygirl is injured, the carrying and the flirting!!!! Gah!
I donāt mean to trivialize the show, but this is me and I can trivialize everything even something as brilliant as this. But that conversation about history at the beginning of ep 10...... Was that about topping and bottoming? Because it sure seemed that way.
And then...... Possibly the best only one bed trope twist ever?
This show is so fucking amazing.
And I am so worried about the end.
Sugar Dog Life (Japan Sun grey) ep 7 of 10 - I love the kinkyness of our baby boyās fantasy. Where he is the gift and his boyfriend is in uniform. Very nice. Thank you Japan. Never one to let kinky dogs lie. Also, the premise continues: one half thinks that they are already boyfriends and acts like it, and the other half is still trying to become a boyfriend. Itās absurd in that way that only Japanese miscommunication extraordinaire can be absurd. Also could Kyosuke be any more under his boyās thumb?Ā
Love is Like a Poison AKA Doku Koi: Doku mo Sugireba Koi to Naru (Japan Tues Netflix?) 1-2 of 10 eps - Shiba is a top lawyer, angular aggressive bespectacled workaholic cat-type (Kitten? Babygirl? Tsundere? Some unholy combination of all 3?) I am reminded I should be more considerate of my potted plants. OMG the teasing and the little tongue sticking out. Haruto is such a flirt. I love this dynamic. What fun! Manic pixie dream boy but MAKE HIM EVIL! Or very high? Or a grifter? I have absolutely no idea whatās going on. But Iām enjoying it. Itās very...... very

First Note Of Love (Taiwan Mon Gaga) ep 7 of 12 - Oh! Good kiss. Smart to have the younger character initiate. I also like that he put a stop to it and then went and had a long conversation with a friend about it. Cautious boy. Also shows how in control of the situation Sea is becoming. It works for this BL since he has the stronger personality.Ā I don't care what the characters say, this is about Sea becoming a rock for Neil.
But the secondary couple is actually winning this show. I want so much more of them.Ā
Seoul Blues (Korea Fri? YouTube) ep 8fin - Iām not sure that blackmailing and entrapment, especially of your ex, necessarily justifies cheating. Plus I never like it when itās gays against gays. But what did I expect from this show? This whole series was basically Koreaās version of messy gay. If you liked Only Friends youāll probably enjoy this bullshit. And they were quite pretty. I, however, am monumentally displeased. 4/10 FATALLY FLAWED but still, basically, BL, howeverā¦... do we want to support this kind of behavior?
KOREA PLEASE GIVE US A NEW PROPER BL!! WHERE ARE YOU? WE ARE SAD AND LOST WITHOUT YOU.
It's like now they discovered boys can kiss they can't be happy.

It's airing but...
The Hidden Moon (Sat WeTV) ep 1 of 10 - This is a supernatural romance (my ghost boyfriend trope) by Violet Rain (I Feel You Linger). A man is hired to write an article about an old mansion in Chiang Mai being converted into a cafƩ. He sees the ghosts of people who died at the mansion, falls in love with one of them. Was substantially recast. I loved IFYLITA except the ending so I think I'll let this one run it's course you can tell me if it's work tracking down... if they managed to land it. I have my doubts.
Happy of the End (Japan Tues Gaga) - A boy is disowned for being gay, dumped by his boyfriend, and ends up in a dysfunctional co-dependant relationship with his would-be kidnapper. We were due for another messy JBL and it's exactly as expected. I do not like it at all. And ya know what? There is plenty airing. DNFĀ

In case you missed it
I FINISHED Meet You at the Blossom (China). I ate crow, binged the fucker, and live blogged the experience. I enjoyed it a lot and got quite witty (I think) there are also puns (warning). But if you don't wanna slog though it, here are my final thoughts:
This was undeniably a wuxia and most definitely a BL. Evil stunning princely Cheekbones meets and falls in love with the bisexual disaster Dimples of his dreams. Thereās a lot of floaty fighting, tangled plot, and overworked emotions. From start to finish it is exactly as it claims to be, including more than the expected amount of sexual claiming (dubious conscent to the point of rape). Iām not wild about the wuxia genre, but I will tell you what I do like: Very pretty men in flowing robes + eye makeup + hair ribbons wafting about stabbing and kissing each other plus ridiculous soap opera machinations. I also like cheekbones and dimples. AND I love a stupid gay sleeve, okay? There was also truly epic levels of stink-eye, and that too is to be lauded. This show left me grinning like crazy. Was it great? Not really, but it was a great experience and I enjoyed it immensely. 8/10
4 Minutes (Gaga) Ended - Spies reported in to say the ending was not-exactly-unhappy and mostly lackluster. I'm torn over whether to watch. My natural disinclination to binge, meets my dissatisfaction with wishy-washy, is going up against my love of high heat and pretty men. Oh the age old struggle between art and lust.
Mitsuya-sensei no keimakutekina ezuke finished and itās reported to be solid. Age gap treated with respect. I'm curious, so I'll check it out if I can get hold of non-G-drive subs.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.
Still Coming Sept 2024:
9/28 Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YouTube) ?? eps - oh I don't know just Ba Vinh doing his thing with pretty boys again.
THIS WEEKāS BEST MOMENTS

I love love love this execution of the punishment trope. What's Ai going to do to you, Yu? Ride you to death?
I Saw You in My Dream indeed.

Sigh. This show. (Addicted Heroin)

All praise one of BL's best-in-show glow-ups. Nicely done, Jack.

James, on the other hand. Never needs a glow-up. Still the prettiest. Has been since Oxygen. (Battle of the Writers)
He's playing the role of Saint in this show, thank you very much. Speaking of which, wouldnāt that be just the most gorgeous pairing in the entire universe? Saint and James? Iāll be in my bunk.Ā

Taiwan giving us a boop! Reminds me of Be Loved In House I Do, right up there with TharnType as chronic boopers.

Why is he SO GOOD in this show?
All Frist Note.
(Last week)
Streaming services are listed by how I (usually) watch, which is with a USA based IP, and often offset by a day because time zones are a pain.

The Concepts of Community & Family as it Relates to Thai Buddhism in Peaceful Property
I really really enjoyed watching this series. I am someone who grew disillusioned with Buddhism at a young age for very personal reasons, only to find my own version of a relationship with it as I grew older and learned to appreciate it from a different perspective. So the spiritual meaning behind this series really resonated with me.
I can only explain things to the best of my personal knowledge, so my apologies if anything is factually incorrect.
There are four basic tenets that one must cultivate in order to achieve true happiness. They are known as the brahmavihara (ąøąø£ąø«ąø”วณหาร). 1 - Metta (ą¹ąø”ąøąøąø²): Literally translating to mean 'goodwill', it is a genuine concern for the well-being of others. 2 - Karuna (ąøąø£ąøøąøąø²): Literally translating to mean 'compassion', it is the recognition of another's suffering as one's own and a selfless desire for that suffering to end. 3 - Mutita (ąø”ąøøąøąø“ąøąø²): Literally translating to mean 'kindliness', it is the feeling of experiencing sincere gratification from the happiness and success of others, regardless of self-contribution. 4 - Ubeka (ąøąøøą¹ąøąøąøąø²): Literally translating to mean 'equanimity', it is the ability to remain impartial combined with the understanding the we cannot mitigate the personal karma of others.
Essentially, the brahmavihara teaches us to always place others above ourselves... while realizing that they will be responsible for facing their own consequences if they fail to do the same.
How does this play into the "family" dynamics that exist in PP? Oddly enough there are certain facets of Buddhism that preach 'anti-family' values, as family can be one's primary source of attachment and suffering. There is a quote that states, "Family is the blood that burdens you." However, when a familial bloodline has lost its way (or in this case, has been "cursed"), Buddhism encourages surrounding yourself with a community that is organized on a familial basis... what we would call 'sangha' or 'found family'. Valuing the members of that found family above corrupt ideology would realign one's path toward enlightenment. Or in simpler terms, the people we choose to surround ourselves with can spiritually save us from ourselves.
Home's family has been "cursed" by the three poisons of Buddhism: greed, hatred, and ignorance. Phon's greed and value of worldly possessions over others has led her down of path of literal darkness, toward a belief in the occult. Somkid's hatred toward his father has fueled his deceptive behaviors... which he saw as a way to reclaim a father's love (that he believed he never received) from the people who didn't deserve it. Home's grandfather was ignorant as to how his actions, or lack thereof, affected the family and community that surrounded him.
Home's own version of ignorance would have led to his own karmic downfall. The series does a great job of having Home slowly discover the true meaning of home by integrating him within a 'found family' that teaches him the values of the brahmavihara... which ultimately leads to his spiritual 'awakening' (in a sense).
Metta/Karuna: Communicating with and healing the souls of the spirits the group encounter, requires compassion and understanding... a sense of community/sangha that these spirits and Chobkol (the magician) were lacking.
There were several instances of compassion born out of goodwill, the most obvious being between Home and Peach. Forgiveness is a big deal in Thai Buddhism. It is one of the cornerstones of what we refer to as "harmonious justice", as it promotes ideals of true selflessness. Peach forgiving Home because he's seen the changes in Home and how this one action does not define who Home actively wants to become was really really important. Home and Peach exist in balance of one another... keeping them on a shared karmic path where Home can no longer 'turn a blind eye' to his family's injustices (we could get into that more, but that'll make this even longer than it already is ššš). I think having Tay and New take on these roles to almost ease the minds of non-Buddhist viewers toward a more Buddhist ideology was actually quietly genius.
Sangha is also what heals the vengeance in Kan's heart, born of the teachings of Metta: "We must refrain from inflicting suffering upon one another and be free from vengeance." It could have been woven into the narrative with a bit more finesse... but I digress.
Ubeka: Home accepts the rightfully directed anger and complaints against him and his family for the harm they have caused. His partiality toward his family, simply because he is related to them, disappears. He stands against his aunt and fights against his uncle at the risk of his own life. And he does so by still allowing them to face the karmic consequences of their own terrible crimes... whether they are at peace with it or not.
Mutita: Home celebrates Peach's dreams above his own wishes... without knowing that they would eventually coincide. I could even argue that their eventual correlation could be a result of Home's 'good karma' paying forward.
Home had to reevaluate his core morals in order to be free of his family's curse (meaning within himself). All these representations of Buddhist notions, born from within his newfound family, are what define Home's idea of the true meaning of home... and happiness.

I cannot begin to summarize how Monster Next Door finally portrayed a flawed parent getting a good ending in a way that satisfied me. I have such beef with Thai BLs constantly giving our mains difficult parents, terrible asshole parents even, and then just justifying the way they treated their child like shit as being parental love and their kid accepts an apology (not you Bed Friend, the holy grail of giving shitty parents their due).
The tension between Diew and his mother, Kade, is obvious, and I was really afraid that the issue would be brushed off as casually as all the rest, due to my past viewing experiences. For a good portion of the show, she seemed overly concerned and harsh toward Diew and it really bothered me.
It was this visual that made things really click for me:
(also I'm sorry for the quality of photos of the show, Gaga now seems to turn the screen black when I try to take a screenshot on my laptop, so I took them with my phone)

Loss of a loved one is hard to talk about with strangers, but it's often more difficult to discuss it with other loved ones who knew them. Diew's father meant everything to him in his childhood because their personalities and dispositions made it easier to enjoy spending time together. I cannot speak as a parent, but I can only imagine the loneliness generated by the loss of a partner (losing a main emotional support you now desperately need) and then watching your child deal with grief by withdrawing from you (a child you have, up until now, not established a relationship as close as your late partner had).
God had the fortune of meeting Diew in the present, and that allowed him to get to know him without any preconceived notions of who he was to influence that development. Kade didn't have that luxury; being a parent means seeing your child through every stage of life and adapting to the changes that come with them. I can only imagine how much harder that had to be when she became a single mother and the clash of personalities made it significantly harder to connect. At some point, she clearly clung to a version of Diew that at least made her feel relevant by presenting her love as wanting to remove all possible worries.
Grieving separately being the main wedge between them runs with some of the themes of the show, I believe. We've watched God and Diew grow together and sort out their differences because ultimately they wanted the same thing - to show they are interested and care for each other - but their challenges presented mostly in how they went about it. Diew and his mother also care about each other. The strain is part of that love and how it has also been weighed down by years of misunderstanding and uncertainty.

Kade recognizing her failure to meet Diew in the middle and letting him know how she felt about it was HUGE to me. So many people will refuse to recognize the failure, and if they do recognize it they do not want to admit it for what it is, much less voice how they feel about it. Also disappointment in one's self as a mother, I believe, is incredibly relatable. It doesn't absolve all wrongs, but it's an incredibly important factor in being willing to do better.

She isn't blaming him here. She isn't using his feelings against him. She apologized without trying to erase what happened. She is simply letting him know that all she wanted was to be closer.
And then Diew seizes the moment. He's grown up and become someone less recognizable to the person she already didn't know very well. That doesn't mean they can't work things out.

Of course this is the solution. This is the green flag communication boyfriends show. But moreover, it's about realizing that life and people come with differences and changes and that doesn't mean that things have to go wrong or end badly. Often the fears that get built up in our heads - the monsters we first perceive them as - are not as scary as they seem, if they are at all. If growth is going to happen, we have to face them.

Excuse me while I sob in the corner, but this response makes Diew such an exceptional character to me. It demonstrates how he has changed from the beginning of the narrative but also remained true to himself. He has always needed someone patient and kind enough to listen to him as attentively as God does. Being heard for what he needs has done him wonders. His struggle to reveal the things that deeply hurt him and seeing how not sharing them can hurt the people he loves in return was an important lesson. Now that his mom has finally shared her pain, the pain that started years ago by no fault of either of them, he can extend that love toward her in a way he knows will reach her.
Diew and his mother are equal in how they can move forward. The relationship isn't treated like a hole in the wall to putty over, but truly something that can be built upon a newer and stronger foundation. I greatly enjoyed the finale as a whole, but this aspect of it tugged at my heart strings personally. I adore this show. Forever and ever.

On the subject of consent in recent BLs
In this analysis, I will take a look at several love scenes in recent Thai BLs, how they frame consent and the sexual agency of the characters, and why those matter.
(KinnPorsche deserves its own post: Iām sure people have already written in detail about how much emphasis is placed on issues of consent/non-consent throughout the show and how fundamental consent is to the relationship arcs of both KinnPorsche and VegasPete, and I wonāt belabor the point here. Also, special shout-out to The Warp Effect for what it brought to the conversation about gay sex, but TWE isnāt technically a BL so I decided not to include it in this analysis.)
I am going to take a closer look at the following shows in this essay: Not Me, The Eclipse, A Boss And A Babe, Step By Step, and La Pluie.
Not Me and The Eclipse predate the other shows by two years/one year respectively, but I feel it is valuable to include them here because both show very explicit negotiations of consent that I feel are spiritual successors to the wonderful scenes weāve been getting in the other three shows.
Why am I even writing this? There used to be an unfortunate tendency in the genre to have a power imbalance between the āsemeā and the āukeā character, which translated into the seme deciding when to have sex and what kind of sex to haveāand even though recently, several shows have done good work in dismantling the seme/uke dynamic and questioning the associated stereotypes, it cannot be denied that the archetypes are still an important part of most BLs, and even in cases where the tropes are played with and questioned, understanding those subversions still requires a knowledge of and familiarity with the original tropes on the part of the audience.
However, gone are the days of Until We Meet Again and Deanās āIāve waited long enough, make sure youāre ready.ā (I enjoyed UWMA a lot but that was. Yeah. Not Great.) Now, we see characters actually talking about and negotiating their limits, and doing what feels good to them.
Letās start from the very beginning. Not Me was an absolute trailblazer in this regard, and not mentioning it here would be a gross oversight. The first time Sean and White have sex, it happens in their version of the beach episode. (Which, in Not Me, is the two characters briefly living in a tent inside an abandoned building. This show is the best.) Sean and White are removed from their usual environment and protected from the outside world by two barriers: the walls of the old house and the tent thatās literally enveloping them and giving them a space that is unequivocally theirs, shared, in which neither one of the characters has any sort of power over the other. And what happens in that space when theyāre about to have sex is extremely interesting: the first thing Sean asks is whether White is afraid of him, which White denies. The following exchange goes like this: White: "So, what are we doing?" Sean: "What should I do to you?" White: "Thatās up to you." (Watch the whole scene here.)
I find this exchange incredibly meaningful because this already turns the seme/uke dynamic that can be found in a lot of other shows on its head. OffGun as a branded pair can easily be stereotyped into the seme/uke dynamic just because of their physical appearances, and clearly spelling out that both characters have agency in this scene is incredibly important.
And then it gets better! Sean assumes that White is sexually inexperienced (which is not true but the fact that White was actually in a relationship with a woman back in Russia never comes up again after the pilot episode, so maybe the show expects us to assume this, too), and suggests they try different things and White can tell him what he likes and doesnāt like. Compared to the stuff weāre getting now, this scene isnāt very high heat at all, but itās one of my favorite intimate scenes ever because them asking each other āDo you like this?ā after every kiss, every touch, is so incredibly unique and transports a wonderful sense of figuring out sexual pleasure together, as a couple.
Sex in Not Me is not something one character does to another, it is something that is discovered and shared together, and we even get an afterglow scene in which they gently tease each other about their fast beating hearts. (And donāt get me started on the importance of White choosing to ask Sean whether Sean is okay with White not being like Black in that moment right before they have sex, because he doesnāt actually want to have sex with Sean as Black! He wants to discover and share intimacy with Sean as White, as himself, not as his brother! The layers!)
Anyway, I think that scene paved the way for a lot of the conversations around consent weāre now getting in BL, just because it is so explicitly, unashamedly putting forward a definition of sexuality that has nothing to do with one character actively giving and the other passively receiving, but frames intimacy as something that is built together. (More on giving and receiving later!)
Now, moving on to The Eclipse. I decided to include the first time Akk and Aye have sex for a different reason: while we donāt really see them actually talking about consent, we see them practicing non-verbal consent. Let me explain. Akkās and Ayeās whole thing is teasing each other. At first, Aye is usually the one doing the teasing, but Akk gets the hang of it towards the end of the show and teases his boyfriend right back. When theyāre in Akkās childhood bedroom together, Aye clearly alludes to the fact that he thought they might use this opportunity to have sex for the first time, which Akk pretends not to understand, all while alluding to it himself. I love this guy. (Watch the whole scene here.) Anyway, Akk says he wants to sleep, lies down and once again, tells Aye jokingly he just wants to sleep, clearly expecting Aye to do what other BL protagonists do at that point and not take no for an answer (sidenote: I HATE the āsaying no as foreplayā trope with a passion and as far as Iām concerned it should die already).
However, Aye is not like other BL love interests, and he backs off. He stops touching Akk, lies down with his back to Akk, showing Akk that he takes him by his word: if Akk says he wants to sleep, Aye is going to let him do just that. So now, itās on Akk to say that, no, thatās not what he meant, can Aye please come back to cuddle. And then Akk is the one to escalate from cuddling to kissing, which is extremely important: we know that Aye has been ready to have sex with Akk since forever, itās Akk whoās been having hangups about intimacy this whole time.
They donāt put consent into so many words on this show, but Aye shows Akk that he respects his limits and that Akk only has to tell him he doesnāt want to do something and Aye will take him at his word.
So, these are, to me, two foundational scenes of establishing consent: one that shows consent as something that is established verbally, as an ongoing conversation, and one that shows consent as something that is established physically, by showing your partner that you respect their choices and limits by way of simply acting accordingly.
Now, letās get into the fun part: scenes we got so far in 2023. Iām writing this post on the 13th of June, and Iām sure this year still has some great things in store for us, especially because Step By Step and La Pluie are both ongoing and neither of the main couples are actually together yet at time of writing. However, theyāve both already given us AMAZING scenes on the topic of consent, so I feel it is worthwhile to write about those already.
I want to start off by talking about A Boss And A Babe.
Let me just preface this by saying that the intimate scenes in ABAAB are some of my all time favorites in BL ever, because in them, sex is something that is just so normal. When Gun and Cher have sex, we donāt see them very passionate, excited, reluctant or wide-eyed innocent (which are some of the emotions traditionally associated with sex in BL). On the contrary, in every single scene that shows them being intimate, both characters are incredibly calm. Theyāre certainly happy to be with each other, but in a subdued way. Someone described their second intimate scene as them seeming like theyāve been married for a few years. Theyāre both just⦠incredibly normal about having sex with each other. Itās simply something they like to do together. Itās a part of their romance but itās not more or less important than any other aspects of their lives.
And consent is at the very heart of it.
When Gun and Cher have their first time, we see Gun explicitly asking for consent two times: first, āCan I kiss you?ā, then, āCan I do more?ā The second one even comes with the promise that if Cher says no, Gun will immediately go to sleep without mentioning it again. And then it is on Cher to say yes, to pull Gun close and kiss him to show him that he is comfortable with taking things further. (In the show, these two questions were shown apart from each other, I cut together a version of the whole First Time Scene in its entirety, watch it here.)
Now, things get more interesting: the second intimate scene shows Cher initiating the encounter (watch the whole scene here). Cher pretty consistently falls into the uke category, both physically and as far as characterization is concerned, but heās certainly not shy in the bedroom. And this time, heās the one who asks for consent from Gun: Gun asks āYouāre starting it?ā and Cherās response is āCan I?ā Despite him being framed physically lower than Gun, basically at Gunās mercy, he still seeks confirmation that Gun is okay with the way things are going. Not to overstate it, but to me, this feels revolutionary. Once again, weāre being shown that sex is something two people do together, as a shared activity, and that the āsemeā character isnāt expected to just be up for it. He, too, has the right to say no.
On this show, sexual agency is taken extremely seriously, and it is clear that both Gun and Cher give each other space to decide what theyāre comfortable doing. This is shown in non-intimate scenes as well: there are so many moments on ABAAB in which the characters negotiate physical touch and closeness, asking each other for hugs before actually hugging each other, Cher leaning on Gunās shoulder in the car but not allowing Gun to touch him because thatās not what heās comfortable with in that moment, and so on. (The only exception to this otherwise pretty consistent rule is the kiss in the car scene, which Iām still extremely confused about because it seems to go completely against Gunās character. Who knows what happened there.)
Of course, the fact that so much emphasis is placed on negotiation and consent isnāt surprising on a show that has such obvious kink undertones and whose Our Skyy 2 entry basically consisted entirely of Dom/sub roleplay at workāIām just saying, I think someone on the writing team is way into BDSM and knows all about the importance of enthusiastic consent from all parties involved, and I would like to send them flowers.
Step By Step hasnāt really reached the point where we can analyse the dynamic between the main couple (although we can take some educated guesses based on the interactions weāve seen so far). However, last weekās episode had an extremely important scene between Pat and Put: Pat wanting to have sex with Put, then changing his mind mid make-out (watch the whole scene here). I really like the way this scene was done. No matter how shitty Put treats Pat at times, in this instance, he immediately understood and respected Patās change of mind without Pat even saying or explaining anythingāat the end of the episode, Put says to Pat that Pat should tell Put when he feels ready to have sex. (We already know this will never happen because of course, Pat and Put are not endgame, but I do appreciate the sentiment.)
BLs rarely include a whole storyline in which the protagonist is in an actual, serious romantic relationship with someone other than his endgame love interest (hi Moonlight Chicken!), or if they do then just to up the angst factor. In this case, however, I feel that this scene raises our expectations for Jeng even further: if the guy who is definitely not a romantic match for Pat treats Pat with this much respect in the bedroom, then Jeng has to do at least that and then some. I do feel confident that Jeng wonāt disappoint in this regard, but itās fascinating to see a show frame this kind of respect as the absolute baseline minimum, with the endgame love interest expected to do even better.
Now, the one youāve all been waiting for. The one that made me write this whole essay in the first place: La Pluie.
Oh boy. Where to start.
A week ago, we got an incredible make-out scene on Saengtaiās floor, which ended in Patts stopping the encounter because he could tell Tai wasnāt really comfortable taking things furtherā@bengiyo talked about that scene in detail here. And then, three days ago, La Pluie gave us the most unique, trope-defying, timeline-changing blowjob scene of all time, and I want to talk about it.
Tai and Patts are making out on their bed, Tai is not ready to go āall the wayā and stops Patts from undressing him. We see a very realistic frustrated reaction from Patts, who nevertheless immediately stops and accepts Taiās wishesāit is clear that Patts does not expect things to go any further at this point, and that he wonāt pressure Tai into anything.
And then, Tai offers to blow him.
(Unfortunately, this show is only on iQiyi so I can't link to it, but you can get a good impression of the scene here.)
I mentioned the concepts of giving and receiving earlier: other people have said this more eloquently than me, but there is a tendency not only in BL but also in wider society to view sex in terms of giving and receiving, with a lot of expectations and stereotypes attached to the roles during different sexual acts. On other shows, that blowjob might be framed as a consolidation or an apology, something that the giver does out of a sense of obligation without enjoying it much. Not so on La Pluie! Tai is shown incredibly happy and satisfied afterwards, both when theyāre sleeping next to each other, as well as on the morning after (see also @ginnymoonbeam's post about that here). Tai offered to blow Patts because he simply wanted to, not motivated by guilt or anything of that sort. And he genuinely enjoyed it! In the post I linked above, @bengiyo points out that La Pluie consistently centers queer desire, or more specifically in this case, male desire for a male body; much in the same way that the camera fucking loves Forceās body on ABAAB: the sensuality of the skin, the hands, the abs, the flat chests, the broad backs and shoulders of these men is explicitly emphasized, and Taiās desire for a dick in his mouth is made absolutely crystal-clear. Of course, since this is a TV show and not a porno, we only see Pattsās thumb in Taiās mouth instead of his dick, but the imagery, the implications, are clear as day.
And it is such a gentle framing, too: Patts caresses Taiās lip lovingly, Tai opens his mouth slowly, seductively, then faces Pattsās crotch with a soft look on his face. We do get a clear sense of this encounter as tender, and gentle, and most of all, desired. Taiās queer desire is at the heart of this scene, and at the heart of the afterglow scene as well. He wanted this manās dick in his mouth, openly suggested it, showed Patts he was sure about his decision after Patts asked him whether he was, and ended up clearly happy and satisfied with the sex they had. This post, also by @bengiyo, goes into more detail on that.
This, once again, shows us sex as a conversation rather than a series of predetermined acts, shows us sex as a shared activity, as something that can be wonderful and intimate and make people happy without following what society views as āthe correct stepsā. I think this is extremely important because one part of queer identity is figuring out oneās own relationship to sexuality, oneās own desires and needs, and BLs that ignore this aspect fall a little short in my opinion. Sure, those men are kissing, but do they experience queer desire? Do they experience joy in their queer desire?
For me personally, a show that does not shy away from these questions is a lot more meaningful than a show that does, and consent is at the heart of it all. By framing sex as a conversation, as something that is built and shared together, the shows I looked at here are actively positioning themselves against the idea that there should be predetermined roles for partners during sex, and instead suggest that queer joy can be found in communication and consent. Understanding sex and intimacy as something that is built together, with both partners as equals in conversation, is just as radically queer as a man waking up with a smile on his face after giving his soulmate a blowjob the previous night.
And quite honestly, a male character who clearly, passionately, unquestioningly communicates that he wants a dick inside of himāthat is incredibly sexy. But maybe thatās just me.

Repose, My Love, I Have Sinned Enough (Astarion x F! reader)
CW and just content- violence, brief description of gore, enemies to lovers, mutual pining, brief mentions of sexual shiznet
Synopsis- You are a cleric of Kelemvor- a God that detests the undead and resurrection due to it disrupting the natural process. However, the Pale Elf you met in the aftermath of the mind-flayer incident is important to the bigger picture.
Youāve defeated Cazador and Orin, but Bhaal Cultists are still at large and they are specifically looking to kill you.
Song for this particular one shot is Eternally Yours by Motionless in White. Title is derived from the song.
Author note- I canāt remember when I recently read a few concepts on tumblr that I integrated into this writing (I.e. a God did answer Astarionās prayers- I put my own twist on it, used a line from the game in a different spot for plot reasons). If anyone wants me to write any spin offs about specific moments, please let me know cause I love these two and I lowkey want to write mutually consensual āGods I cannot stand youā sex.
Hope you enjoy!
Photo belongs to @cheekylittlepupp on Tumblr

You hated him.
Astarion AcunĆn was single-handedly the worst thing that could have happened to you.
And you had quite literally fell out of the fucking sky with a tadpole in your head.
āMy apologiesā your ass. The minute he held that knife to your throat should have been enough. He duped you and he duped you good.
Overtime, you thought that Astarion was a pompous ass and you hated him for his existence- everything your God, Kelemvor, rejected. In spite of it all, you still let the man drink from you when he needed blood.
Kelemvor heard your prayers and allowed you to work with Astarion with no retribution to you. Being a part of a Divine plan to save the world has ultimately saved the Spawn.
Oh and Astarion despised you just as much- maybe even more. You were a threat to his safety- only allowed to protect him because your God had allowed it. So what happened once you no longer had need of him?
The two of you fought like cats and dogs, but your actions towards each other were in direct opposition with every nasty word you flung at each other.
The second week into the journey had demolished your armor and destroyed your only camp clothes. You had been silently upset about the endeavor- knowing there wonāt be anyone selling any lounge clothes until you get to Baldurās Gate.
The armor was an easy replacement- people sell plenty of that shit apparently.
You had asked everyone in camp (minus Astarion) if they either knew how to sew, had an extra blanket or cape you could use that they didnāt need, or had an extra shirt. Everyone told you no, but they would keep an eye out.
You tried your best to stitch it up yourself, but the thing had been a damn mess. You were sitting in your bra and leather pants while successfully tangling your shirt with the string.
You had finally had it and screamed at the top of your lungs. You threw the shirt on the floor of your camp and walked off with your Mace. It took an hour of hitting a tree and two wild hog kills before you had calmed down enough to attempt to return to your work. It was almost evening when you left and now it was getting dark as you got back- still in only your (sports like Karlachās armor btw) bra, leather pants, and your flimsy camp shoes.
Gale had been thrilled to have the fresh meat, but had made you feel horribly embarrassed because he was trying to not gawk.
You had been a good sport about it- ignoring it entirely- and then went back to your tent to try to have something resembling a shirt before dinner.
Except the heap of string and cloth that had been strewn everywhere was gone- your shirt was perfectly stitched up and folded. There was a note attached.
So Gale doesnāt die from a boner induced stroke- Astarion p.s. I still hate your guts.
You gave him the Necromancy of Thay as a thank you and with the condition that Gale never knows.
Youāve also surprised him a multitude of times. You knew the right thing to do was to give him over to Galendral. It was just you and Astarion. You could team up with the monster hunter and just tell the group it had been a sudden āoh shit now Iām allergic to fireā moment.
Instead you helped Astarion kill the man and oooed and aweed over his very nice crossbow together.
Or the time that Araj wouldnāt stop asking him to drink her blood. You got so fed up that you knocked her out cold, woke her up, asked if she got the message, she said yes, and then you knocked her out cold again. Just because it felt good at that point.
āA woman after my own heart.ā Astarion teased.
Your companions would frequently yell at you to get a room and youād both scream about how awful the other is before storming off.
However, the two of you were formidable in battle when you worked side by side. It was the only time the group had any reprieve from your bickering. He stayed close to you and refused to let you go anywhere without him. You finally confronted him on it when he complained for the millionth time about all the walking.
It ended up with you two fighting in front of a very knowing Karlach and Shadowheart, yelling at each other nonsensically, and then Astarion suddenly broke up the fight by saying, āitās not my fault your God wonāt let me resurrect you if you die doing something stupid- which is very possible knowing the nature of this group!ā
He stormed off in a huff and you shut up pretty quickly after that.
A flip had switched in your relationship following the first major fight the group had engaged in.
While making your way through the Goblin Camp- you had been injured fatally while trying to protect Gale from Minthara. You had been laughing and borderline crying with the irony of it all- you were allowed to keep the Spawn alive and anyone could resurrect him- but you got to sit there and die. For the first time- you arenāt comforted by the fact that your God will be waiting for you. In fact, all you can think about is Astarion.
Shadowheart was helping kill Priestess Gut and Halsin was in the middle of trying not to be killed by Dro Ragzlin. It was only you, Gale, and Astarion fighting and you are completely out of magic to heal yourself. You swallowed against the lump in your throat and took one last conscious ragged breath. You had let the world start to fade to black and the last thing you saw was Astarion running towards you.
Then you woke up next to the fire hours later with Astarion sitting on the log next to you- his book casting a shadow over his face.
Shadowheart told you that Astarion had practically half dragged her to where you were as Gale was forcing your unconscious body to take healing potion after healing potion. She told him not to worry- they could always resurrect you. Shadowheart says she regrets even uttering those words.
āAre you that incredibly unobservant or are you that ignorant, Sharran?ā Astarion snarled, āsheās a Cleric of Kelemvor- resurrecting her would quite literally ruin her life so you better have a better back up plan than that.ā
Astarion had been a mess and when they tried to put you in your tent- he had gotten pissed at them even more.
āShe sleeps next to the fire, you incompetent fools,ā he scoffed, āyou canāt honestly expect her to heal in the coldest fucking corner of camp in that shitty excuse of a tent.ā
You didnāt know how it happened- let alone twice, but you and Astarion did end up sleeping together. Kelemvor disapproved greatly (making it known after you helped Astarion kill a devil for Raphael) and you pushed Astarion away when he asked you to try to be in a relationship with him.
When he asked why- you told the truth. You were always meant to be enemies- you had allowed this to go on for too long and you should never have indulged in feelings that were silly- foolish even. Astarionās heart was broken and he has been bitter towards you ever since.
You are the only one who knows that every word you said felt like you were being given a thousand papercuts. You want him so desperately- in every sentimental way you can think of.
But you are nothing- basically powerless- without Kelemvor. You canāt protect Astarion if you have no magic or the ability to heal.
The only exception to his bitterness was the day you barely saved him in time from Cazador.
You had found a blood stain next to his bed when you went to check on him. You had a weird feeling that you needed to. Astarion told you he had to grab something from upstairs before joining you all for a drink.
You had never run so fast- shouting at your companions to get in their gear and meet you at the Crimson Palace. Your lungs hurt as you raced through Baldurās Gate with angry, vengeful tears streaming down your face.
You had basically demolished every single creature and person who was in your way- your abilities against the Undead coming in handy. Cazador had barely started the ritual when you came in and began slaughtering all the creatures guarding him- your companions were on your heels and came just in time.
You were able to focus on killing Cazador and stopping the ritual. You succeeded. When you released Astarion from his bindings so he could finish Cazador once and for all- the first thing he did was pull you into him and he clung to you for dear life.
āI thought Iād never see you again.ā
Astarion decided not to ascend by some miracle. He still hasnāt told you why.
He took you to his grave and asked if you would give your blessing for his new birthdate. You had been absolutely bewildered- saying that is for your God to say, not you.
āI donāt care about your God, Tav,ā Astarion said with desperation, āI just want to know you acknowledge that I am living- that Iām worthy of this new beginning. If you donāt feel that way or you just canāt- I will never bother you again.
āBut if you do feel that way⦠please,ā he stared at you earnestly, āyou are the only one I know worth worshipping- yours is the only blessing I want to have.ā
Kelemvor had told you you were on thin ice in a dream that night- your blessing had meant the world to Astarion, but was a cardinal sin to your God.
Kelemvor didnāt have anything to worry about- Astarion went back to being bitter and hateful towards you two weeks later anyway. One day you went from being friends to him bringing partners to fuck in the private room on your floor. He was also back to arguing with you and being nasty as all get out.
You donāt know why the Wood Elf at the Carnival specifically sought the two of you out the other day. You both scoffed at the idea, went into it expecting it to be a disaster, and then promptly avoided each other in the aftermath.
She told you your love for each other is impenetrable.
Considering the current situation- you think it was all just a shitty carnival trick.
Itās moments like these, as you watch him flirt with a very beautiful woman across the room at Elfsong, where you cling to those moments of intimacy you had been able to experience with him.
You are always heartbroken when he brings someone to the private room. Itās close to your bed and you can hear everything.
You couldnāt bring yourself to pretend you are okay with it today. You couldnāt pretend to be ājust fineā or unfazed. A child had died under your watch and you had barely killed Orin- the battle was gruesome and you saved Laeāzel in time (Thank Gods).
It has been a hard day. You are incredibly tired and your tipsy brain is grieving the fact that you donāt get to curl up next to him at the end of the day anymore. You havenāt been sleeping well since you stopped sleeping next to him- your nightmares came back in full force.
Your heart is entirely crushed like your spirit. You are certain that itās beginning to show on your face and it makes you feel gross. You try not to be too obvious with how much you want to leave, but your little walk- sprint is far too awkward and telling.
There are plenty of Taverns to drink from with plenty of people to talk to. It may only be an hour and a half before the sun rises, but tomorrow is a day off so who cares? Besides, Baldurās Gate never sleeps.
You donāt see Astarion watching you leave, the woman in front of him storming off in envy.
You donāt know that Astarion saw how you looked his way when he got closer to the woman in front of him- let alone that interacting with another person this way instead of being with you makes him equally as heartbroken.
None of these encounters felt right nor did they feel good. He had declined to Ascend- taking it to heart when you said you want him to be a man he can be proud of. Not to mention, you had destroyed an entire palace (Godey was scattered all over the halls) to get to him when he had been sitting there begging Selune of all fucking people to alert Isobel, Dame Aylin, Shadowheart- literally anyone- that he needed to be saved. Then he threw Jergal out there as a āfuck it, letās try itā and not even 30 minutes later- you were there. Your eyes were full of bloodlust, anger, and vengeance.
Enemies to Lovers to Friends to Enemies again. Both of you are evidently in love with one another and cannot be together because Kelemvor said āpsychā. The bards in Faerun will have a field day when that information comes out.
Ever since your display of brutal vengeance, he silently begged for you to finally just be with him. The light touches, the flirty conversations, the yearning looks- just denounce Kelemvor already!
There are plenty of Gods! Jergal could be fucking hiring for all Astarion knows at this point. Itās not like the ancient God of the dead and scribes wasnāt in their camp. He gave Withers a very suspecting look when they got back to camp- the skeleton merely bowed his head in acknowledgment.
Astarion had waited for two weeks- hoping maybe you had a change of heart and just needed the time to come to peace with it.
Nope. Absolutely nothing but friendship so he went back to trying to make you jealous. He knows itās childish. What were you supposed to do? Denounce your God? The same God that had been there for you when your mother died in your childhood? No- that was and is unfair of him. He doesnāt know what to do anymore.
Astarion just wants one last moment- a tryst even- before you have to become enemies again. His heart aches for you- he adores you and he even admires your dedication to your faith. Youāre passionate about the work you do- helping families grieve, providing them assurance that their loved one is safe on the other side, and saving towns from Undead individuals who truly mean harm.
If only he had met you in a different time period- before he was a Vampire- maybe then he could have been with you without the consequences. He couldnāt live with the crushing guilt of making you turn away from your God for him. Astarion canāt ask that of you and he knows he needs to stop trying to manipulate you into it as well.
He leaves the bar and searches the street for you. Astarion is relieved you haven't gotten very far. Bhaal cultists are still on the rise and with their leader freshly dead by your hand- well, itās safe to assume you made enemies of the cult very quickly.
On the other hand, you continue to be lost in your confusing daze of emotions. The battle against Orin is far from your mind right now and Bhaal cultists arenāt even a thought.
What do you do when the person you want is someone you canāt have because your God says no? People donāt write books or scrolls for this kind of stuff.
Do you run away? Do you let them figure out the Elderbrain on their own? Do you denounc-
No, you think sharply whilst pushing the thought out of your mind. You canāt just stop worshiping Kelemvor.
Or can you?
Your internal war has given you tunnel vision in your pursuit to find the nearest bar- so much so that you donāt see the Bhaal assassin begin his attempt at your life from the alleyway.
You wouldnāt have known you were mere seconds from dying if you hadnāt been roughly pushed to the ground, landing flat on your face.
You scramble to your feet and what you see horrified you. The Bhaal assassin is standing over Astarion- who is now well and truly dead- his throat slit to the bone and a massive wooden stake in his chest.
The scream that tears through you is animalistic- the Bhaal assassinās eyes widen. You paralyze him and use telekinesis to fling him into the dark alley. You break his arms, his legs, his jaw- the man is gurgling out for help. You mutilate his entire body- avoiding his head. The man is barely clinging to life when you light his entire existence on fire with the Blood of Lathander. You watch as his face melts off and you relish in his fear until his eyes no longer exist.
You almost forget that Astarion is dead. Almost, but only because you refuse to believe it. You drag him into the alley behind some boxes to shield the scene from onlookers. You gently pull the wooden stake out and press on his sternum with your fist.
āAstarion,ā you croak, āAstarion- my love- please wake up.ā
You are in front of him and trying so hard to see if there is any possible sign of life- you are throwing all of your healing magic at him as you beg him to get up. He canāt be dead. If heās dead you canāt resurrect him and if you canāt resurrect himā¦
Your head is spinning and you feel like you canāt breathe.
This is the way of life.
That is what the doctrine teaches. Astarion lived 200 years too long- this is what was always supposed to happen.
You try to walk away- several times actually, but your heart cries out every time in protest.
Heās alone- donāt leave him. He canāt be alone right now. Heās probably so scared and-, You think.
You inhale and exhale- looking at him. You had closed his eyes so that the emptiness no longer haunted you. Nothing about this rest looks peaceful. His lips are still contorted in pain.
I can bring him back- thereās no time for for our companions. Kelemvor will take his soul when the Sun has come completely over the horizon.
You peer out at the sky- the purple sky was already turning to pink. You need to make a decision now and the decision is clear to you. You dump out the contents of your smaller bag of holding and the reincarnation scroll Astarion insisted you keep after the Goblin Camp hits the ground.
You can lose your God. There are many others- maybe even one who will let you love who you want to. On the flip side, thereās only one cheeky vampire rogue that makes you happy though and you canāt let that go.
You open it- the parchment burning your hands and you can feel your power being ripped from you.
Kelemvor is quick- as soon as the incantation leaves your lips and Astarion jolts back to life- you feel all your magic leave your body.
You feel cold, but all you can do is stare at him and cry silently. Heās alive and that is worth far more than any Godās blessing.
Astarion is coughing- touching his chest and throat as he becomes reorientated to his surroundings. Then he looks at you- his eyes going wide when he sees the used Scroll of Revivify in your hands.
āYou-ā he chokes on his words, he looks at you with tears in his eyes, āyou brought me back.ā
You nod back and your lip trembles- you want to wrap your arms around him. You want to feel him hold you back- you want to know heās alive.
āWhy?ā Astarion huffs in disbelief, āKelemvor-ā
Really!? Now he cares what Kelemvor THINKS!?
āI could give a shit less what Kelemvor thinks! You- you!,ā you snap and throw your arms in the air, āyou prick! I want you! I chose you! If I knew youād be ungra-ā
You are pulled into his lap with lightning speed and his lips are pressed roughly against yours. You are flush against each other as if you mean to consume one another. The kiss is sloppy, needy, and full of want- you finally have to break the kiss and breathe.
When you open your eyes to look at him- you are almost rendered breathless immediately after you inhale.
The warm oranges and pinks make him look like an ethereal creature- something celestial instead of undead. Astarionās smile is a thousand times more bewitching in this light. Astarion is your Heaven and he is your home.
āIāve missed you,ā you say heavily, āand I hate every weirdo you took to bed,ā you sniff and wipe your tears on your sleeves ā- not cool by the way.ā
Astarionās face is quickly swimming with guilt and he rubs soft circles into your hips with his thumbs. Stray tears are falling down his cheeks.
āIām sorry Darling- I was being childish and I guess I thought I could⦠get you to be with me one last time if you were jealous enough.ā
You squint at him through unamused, wet eyes and he chuckles nervously- his smile reflecting the āmy badā expression.
āYouāre lucky I only had one resurrection scroll on me- otherwise I would kill you right now and bring you back again,ā you say with a huff, āor maybe not. You are very beautiful.ā
āWhy thank you,ā Astarion flashes a cheeky grin, āyou could stand to mention it more, my Love.ā
You roll your eyes at him and you cup his face with your hands- pulling his mouth up to yours to continue pressing soft kisses to his lips. You stay that way until your stomach growls and you flush in embarrassment.
You head back to Elfsong, hand in hand, undeath and Gods no longer keeping you apart.
āWait,ā Astarion stops abruptly and looks around, āwhat about the Bhaal Assassin? Did he get away?ā
You chuckle awkwardly and scratch the back of your head, āI definitely didnāt fatally mutilate him and then burn him alive with the Blood of Lathander⦠if thatās what you are askingā¦ā
Astarion blinks twice before he throws his head back in laughter, āhow quickly did you start that endeavor?ā
āUh⦠maybe a second or two, give or take,ā you frown, āwhy?ā
Astarion rubs the worry from your brow with his thumb and places a chaste kiss on your lips. He smiles down at you cheekily.
āYou couldnāt wait 10 seconds before being an absolute freak?ā
You beam at him, āfor you? Never.ā
*************************************
How peculiar.
A die hard Kelemvor Cleric renouncing her faith and celebrating the rebirth of a creature with 200 more years than he was supposed to have under his belt, Withers thinks while striking Astarionās name off the record, I have much to learn. Matters of the heart are tricky- or so it seems.
Withers had, in fact, responded to Astarionās prayer. Hells- he answered multiple times about 28 years ago when you were brought into the world. It took a lot of generations to get to you, but it eventually happened within the last 200 years- did it not?
You and Astarion were either meant to collide in one of two ways because Astarion had prayed for two separate things on multiple occasions. One of those prayers was to let him die and the other was to be saved- to eventually be given the opportunity to have a happy life.
You would either kill him in the name of your God and eventually become Kelemvorās Chosen or you would fall in love with each other and you would denounce Kelemvor- ultimately finding a new God in the chaos. One that doesnāt dictate your romantic relationships, but maybe is a little judgemental of them. Kelemvor and Withers left that to your own free will- Kelemvor testing you time and time again.
The future was leaning heavily towards you becoming Kelemvorās chosen. It had surprised Withers and Kelemvor when the scales of fate had changed.
Withers watches with neutral eyes as you and Astarion sleep on Astarionās bed- curled around each other for a post breakfast nap.
Astarion is an enigma to Withers. Vampire Spawn rarely think of others outside of the people they knew in their past. The man had approached him at camp during the early days and flat out asked him if he was Jergal. Withers declined to answer.
The boy is smart- Withers will give him that.
Both parties look content, peaceful, and happier than they had in the last several weeks. Withers returns to his list and his curious thoughts.
The girl has lost her powers- exchanging them for love and she sleeps like a babe.
How will she complete her destiny now, Withers ponders, already knowing the answer.
I could use a cleric or two againā¦

TWIG! Friend! I couldn't help but notice your tags in my excitement post about getting to La Pluie -- I see that you and I are YYY mutuals. :) Let's call YYY... say... zany or offbeat -- off the beaten path of the usual romance-dominated field of Thai BLs. What are some other "zanier" BLs (not just Thailand, but everywhere in Asia) that you love and would recommend for an off-the-wall experience? And, why?
@waitmyturtles I'm so sorry you sent this a million years ago and then I kept letting it languish. And it's extra rude because I love this question! It's so hard to add something like YYY to a rec list without a billion caveats, so this is a great chance to shout out some of the series & shorts that don't get as much attention. A few of these I know you've seen but I have to include them for completeness.
First, for the sake of other people reading this, as Turtles has written about, Cheewin brings his own kind of zaniness to almost everything he works on; my faves of his other than YYY are Make It Right and Secret Crush on You (the exception is Bed Friend, which is not in any way zany but I still liked it).
Also going to mention that since Turtles asked for off the beaten path zany, I won't be mentioning any of the popular comedies (in case you're wondering why I Became the Lead in A BL Drama or Man Who Defies the World of BL aren't on this list).
Alright now that's out of the way, let's get into the other recs!
Zany lesser-known BLs other than YYY
Ossan's Love Franchise (Japanese, 2016-2024, GagaOOLala)
It is... less true now that this series is lesser-known than it was when I started writing this draft (in uh... August 2023) but I shall persist! The franchise details alone for this series are complete crack:
A 2016 45-minute short [skippable imo];
The 2018 original series which builds the short into a zany 7-episode comedy series about a man in his late 20s who suddenly finds himself the love interest of his older boss (in his ~50s) and his coworker/roommate (in his mid-20s);
The sequel film Ossan's Love: Love or Dead (2019)which turns into an action film halfway through for no clear reason but also remains a romantic comedy in which the mains from the original season decide if they want to stay together
The AU season Ossan's Love: In the Sky (2019) which has the same characters of the lead and his boss from S1 and the short, but this time they work in an airport and all of the surrounding cast is different and leads to a very confusing love rhombus. Incredible 10/10 no notes [people hate this because they like the mains from S1 & the film but I loved the mess]
The sequel season to S1 and the film, Ossan's Love Returns (2024) which you can absolutely watch in isolation and is about the main couple re-establishing their relationship and their found family friend group after being long distance for a few years.
It's truly excellent comedy, and gets better every outing; there are some barriers that might prevent some enjoying the earlier seasons but the most recent one is really delightful. You can hear me talk more about this series with @bengiyo and @shortpplfedup on The Conversation podcast!
Diary of Tootsies (Thai, 2017, grey/Netflix (for the movie))
I love Diary of Tootsies and the follow-ups so much. SO much. One of the best laughs of my life was the opening to the movie, and I cannot be in a long car ride without thinking about the purse incident in s1. This show doesn't get a lot of BL fandom attention because the romance arcs are not typical for BL (but that's one of the things I love about them). And the friendship in this series is truly what sells it. Season 1 is self-contained, a lot of people dislike the romance plot of S2; I really like the arc across s2 to the movie (as established above, I tend to be less invested in a particular ship across a franchise or multiple franchises). The movie plot is all about reconciling who you thought you wanted and who you are with (amongst all kinds of shenanigans).
HeHe and He (Hong Kong, 2018-ongoing, YouTube)
This mockumentary sitcom-style series does tackle some serious topics and is also absolutely hilarious nonsense across its 3 seasons. The very simple premise is that a gay guy ("hehe" is slang for gay) and a straight guy who are old friends become roommates when the gay friend breaks up with his longterm boyfriend and needs a place to stay, and hijinks ensue. They do direct-to-camera confessionals spliced in with scenes from their lives. I love this show so much, and it would actually be high up in my indie BL rankings if it were completed. I lose it at least once an episode. It's very queer (if you want a show that tackles everything from hookups to turning everything into a joke to being so, so mean to each other while also loving each other dearly to even chemsex, look no further), and I am in love with all of the wacky characters that have formed a love-hate found family that is deeply relatable. The creators posted a video a few months ago saying they're struggling to end it in a way that they're happy with so I'm not sure we'll ever get an ending for the show. But if you like comedy and queer content it's worth a watch even incomplete! I've been very patiently following this project since 2018 and it's legitimately one of my favourite shows.
Rainbow Prince the Series (Filippino, 2022, YouTube)
This is a musical; it is a lot of campy nonsense. There is royalty, political intrigue, a dog, kidnappings, and so. much. singing. The songs are surprisingly catchy and it's all extremely good fun. Also a lot of the dialogue is very clearly improvised.
Hey! First Love (Vietnamese, 2019, YouTube)
This series of shorts are mostly just silly fluff. The very tenuous plot is that these shorts are slice-of-life moments from a young established couple, but it's all really just excuses for Vietnamese comedy and BL romance tropes. If you haven't watched anything from Vietnam, this is a very low-stakes commitment (I think it's under 30 minutes of content all told; there are 4 "episodes" which are spliced together shorts, each of which has a tiny plot but there is not much of an overarching narrative, and then a Q&A with the actors at the end) and gives you a sense of the Vietnamese sense of humour. Both of these actors have gone on to continue to be in other Vietnamese BLs, so if you have watched Vietnamese BL you may recognize them! The production quality on this is charmingly low.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (India, 2019, Amazon Prime)
This film was such a joy to experience in a live theatre. Billed "the first Gay Bollywood RomCom", this movie was a riot of chaos, dance numbers, shenanigans, hilarity, and cuteness. I loved the way this film incorporated the very real legal change to decriminalize homosexuality in its story. Arguably not "BL" as it very much fits in the bollywood tradition not the BL tradition, but OP did ask for all of Asia!
Like Love (China, 2014-15, grey)
And no I don't mean censored--this is from before China started censoring its BLs. This show has kisses as shown in the gif, and even (poorly cropped) sex scenes. It also is super bizarre. I was so confused by this show, the characterization, the fourth wall breaks, and how disjointed it was so I went to read the source material and...it turns out it's one of the most perfect adaptations I've ever seen, the book is in fact exactly like this. The characters are caricatures, there is no bridging between scenes, and the plot is the most absurd take on 'loserfail no-thoughts-head-empty character who doesn't admit he's gay but still ends up in a dedicated and loving relationship with a rich handsome domineering man ' I've ever seen. It's a bewildering experience. Note the sound quality on this one is suuuper miserable. I like s2 way more than s1 (s1 is getting together and includes a lot of the bullying-teasing and I'm-not-gay-I-just-need-him-to-pay-attention-to-me stuff, s2 is the honeymoon phase + getting the homophobic parents on board) but S1 is definitely the zanier of the two. That being said, if you wanted, I think you can dive right in to s2 (there's a direct-to-camera explanation of what happened in s1 at the start of it). Note that they set up a cliffhanger at the end of 2 in anticipation of s3 which was going to be made in 2016 but was cancelled because of the political changes in China in 2016 (this is one of the reasons I went to read the source material; they do get a happy ending in the books).
This is an extremely silly but also touching franchise with a lot of tropes I don't love, but also a lot of things I do (and just neat to see some stuff so early in BL: Underwater kiss? Helicopter ride? Femme fatale becomes friend of the faen? Supportive grandparent? It's all here). There are some fantastic speeches in s2 about supporting your gay children; I liked how in this the kids didn't give up on their parents but try to reconcile their filial piety with their dedication to each other. If you do watch S1, highly recommended you watch the series version rather than the film. For "S2"/the follow-up film, make sure you look for the uncensored film version.
The Lover Room 709 Cut (Korean/Japanese, 2016, grey)
This starts extremely silly, plays with BL tropes, and gets a little bit serious at the end but is mostly just full of puns and innuendos. Includes one of the most hilarious takes on kabedon, and egregious use of the soundtrack from Brokeback Mountain. Also: fart jokes. Folks worried it was going to stay teasing the audience but it does commit and we do get an actual resolution that is satisfying. I admit I've never seen the whole series (which includes stories of 3 other couples in the apartment building) but the BL cut is readily available if you search. Make sure you look for the deleted scene with the lotion application--this scene walked so IFYLITA could run (I'm kidding, but it's very funny seeing this scene now and thinking about that one).
The Boy Next Door (Korean, 2018, YouTube)
This is another older series playing with censorship (similar to The Lover) in which the two characters end up in BL romance tropes but are not actually in love...or are they? The shenanigans are very fun. This one is left more ambiguous than The Lover, which is one of the reasons it's further down the list.
Go! Go! G-Boys (Taiwan, 2006, grey)
I debated between this and another quirky comedy from Taiwan in the early 2000s, Formula 17, but while that's unequivocally a better movie, this one is lesser known and more zany, so it technically better fits the bill for this ask (but if you haven't, go watch Formula 17!). The plot is a bit cringe--straight boy signs up to gay beauty contest to pay off his girlfriend's debts (accompanied by his gay childhood friend who is in love with him) and finds his truth. Meanwhile a homophobic police officer has also infiltrated the contest for investigative purposes. Amongst all that admittedly not great setup, however, are several bizarre sequences including the incredible Lord of the Rings recreation scene (complete with Gatchaman of course), a killer soundtrack, a random delivery of poultry, someone slapping a cake, and, most absurdly unbelievable at all: police taking harassing death threats to the gay contest seriously. It does a great job of setting up what should be a dramatic scene and then immediately undercutting the tension with something absurd. It's not narratively good, but it is a fun ride! And yes, there is a happy ending. Stick around for a fourth wall break (literally) after the credits.
Something Crunchy Crunchy (Korean, 2018, GagaOOLala)
Extremely bizarre little musical short in which snacks are anthropomorphized as hot guys and they sing songs about being eaten and wanting to be eaten. Played entirely sincerely, but the concept is screamingly funny. Fascinating. Also, kind of poly?
Dom (Korean, 2016, GagaOOLala)
Another hilarious and weird Korean short, this time in which we see the protagonist's sex life from the perspective of the condom boxes that are anthropomorphized and given personalities based on their brands.
And since we can't leave out the ladies,
A few zany GLs:
Lily Fever (Korean, 2015, YouTube)
I wrote about this one a little in my GL rec list; it is absolutely bonkers nonsense. There is not really a plot, it's a fever dream of a show. Chaos! Not so much a romance as an excuse to see cute girls flirt and make out.
Legend of Yunqian (China, 2020, grey)
I debated including this one because only the middle is really the zany part, it's sandwiched with more serious xianxia drama. But in the middle of this miniseries is an extremely cute interlude in which xianxia characters time travel to present day for ~reasons. It's censored but there is very little uncertainty about feelings, and manages to be absolutely charming. Worth the short runtime for this kitten quickcut (subbed "Whomst?!" in the show for ultimate comedy). Warning for character death (but it's ok because time travel to reincarnated character!) Subtitled by the indispensable @douqi7s [see their pinned post for links].
BetCin (Filippino, 2022, WeTV)
A lesbian couple with a YouTube following decide to break up but then find out there's a contest for couples, and they decide to pretend to still be together to try and win the contest rather than tell their fans they've broken up. This series does some really interesting things by starting with a breakup and then looking at how two people who are no longer dating manage BGP while also managing their feelings. There's a lot going on in this show, and the hijinks definitely ensue!
Perfect One Night Stand (Korean, 2020, GagaOOLala)
This is a cute Strongberry GL short in which a friend agrees to help her other friend find a girl to have sex with before the day is over; they go through several quirky candidates looking for the titular perfect one night stand.

yknow what i want for fk? more shows. PUT THEM IN INSANE HET SHOWS I BEG š no more one bl a year i need them in a show in every part gmmtv announces shows in. i would literally pay for home school 2 for insane khao. i would pay gmmtv for insane first in a show. LET THEM PLAY INSANE CHARACTERS. FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH.
gmmtv's het shows are so underrated because those things are way more unabashedly queer even compared to a lot of bl's they produce <- preaching like im from the missionary of 'gmmtv het show are gay af' alliance
(i just love the het shows and will take any moment to talk about it. like yea ofc theres stupid ones but some of them are just so fucking good and made with so much love and passion and its so visible and it makes me so soft š„ŗ)
- burnsuncomet (they should really let me ask stuff from my sideblog smh š)
Go on. Tell me more about what het shows you like from GMMTV (and why you like them). And tell me what ideas do you want for your het shows for FK?
I personally enjoyed Home School (so I am definitely on board with Khaotung versus Gun for season 2!) , Midnight Museum, Enigma (for a horror show, this pack a lot more than just good special effects) and the currently airing Peaceful Property (which we are still debating whether itās BL or not š).
And I cannot stress enough how much 55:15 Never Too Late is such an underrated gem (yes it has a side BL featuring our own Khaotung who nailed his role as SongPol/Paul) but my other fav storyline in that show was Viewās character and the friendship between Paul and Piployās character.
I didnāt mind Summer nights but I got terribly bored by Phuwin (and whoever his love interest was) - and really just perked up when Dunkās character White and Lookjun interacted.
And if you are asking me what het shows Iām looking forward from GMMTV - Hide & Sis (it has Jan, Piploy and Lookjun plus Chimon playing a sleaze ball? - sign me up!)
But Iām digressing - we are talking about FK hehe. I admit I was disappointed when they only have one project for 2024, which has yet to air š„² (especially after getting spoilt with 3 shows from them in 2023 š©).
I think FK is under utilised by GMMTV (but then again, donāt we all say the same when talking about our own bias CPs?) - I want them to be in reality show, talk shows, V-log ANYTHING really beyond just one BL cause they have so much potential (we are definitely in agreement with this. Although itās of course not feasible to have everything for the boys cause they will burnout otherwise šāāļø). But we can all dream yeah?
Anyway, I thought this user from Twitter has the cutest idea ever for their YT content šš½ (credit on the screenshot)

(Or I take the boys going camping together with us watching them cook and playing guitar and toasting marshmallows by the campsite)
In my alternate reality where FK gets to act more than one BL per year, these are my pick for hetero show/concept with FK in it:
The currently aired āThe Judge from Hellā, k-drama starring Park Shin Hye and Kim Jae Young. I want a Thai remake - with Piploy as the devil in the judgeās body (she plays beautiful evil/anti-hero well! - her performance in Enigma was a good example of this) and First as our dutiful cop who joined force (literally selling his soul) to the devil after his mother figure got killed by a serial killer who also killed his birth parents. We know First can play tortured and devastation well, but truly seeing him fight to keep his morality? - š¤ (also First already looks like a Korean movie star, so he will fit in well! Plus not going to lie - a tall First having to lean down on tiny Piploy while they bicker and fall in love š¤ (these 2 have quite the chemistry in The Shipper)
As for Khaotung (we already mentioned Home School), but if I want to see him in a hetero couple - it will be with Ciize. These 2 were wholesome together in Tonhon Chonlatee (the show has flaws, but I still enjoyed it and Khaotung/Ciize being besties in that show was one of the highlights for me!)
And again, Iām borrowing this from one of my favourite k-drama, Happiness (2021) featuring Park Hyung-Sik and Han Hyo-Joo. Beyond just a zombie flick, itās a commentary on social class but also the desperation and the length people go to when trapped with no where to go. Also, I wonāt lie, I just want to see Khaotung (now that he is so buff!) and Ciize (despite her tiny frame) being badass with guns- it also has a sweet romance line between the main characters š
And bonus - if I can make my own FK-centric drama:
I want them to play cross-lovers in the past but one of them was a woman.
They both reincarnated - the womanās soul now in one of the boys (I havenāt quite figure out who I want to play this role between them š¤£). This soul remembers his previous life and lover but avoids trying to look for him (cause you know, she is now a he and thought his previous lover is straight)
While the other person - knows he is missing someone, he has a deep yearning for this one person. However, he canāt remember the face or really anything beyond vague flashbacks except he knows it is a she. So he keeps looking at girls of course not finding the one. Meanwhile, fate (of course) made them meet and they keep avoiding trying to not fall in love but fail š¤·š½āāļø. I have even thought of what jobs these boys could have, the side characters š¤£ā¦but alas, this will stay in delulu land (and yes, if you think the plot sounds vaguely familiar, it likely is! Cause I just pick all the plots/tropes I like and meshed it up!)
#anyway I donāt know I answer your ask accurately#but I had fun rambling anyway#yes to more FK shows but I doubt we will get anything from them in 2025 cause THK has not even aired#so this is me wishfully thinking of what I want from them#khaotung thanawat#first kanaphan#firstkhao#asked and answered

This Week in BL - The grace to accept the BL we are given
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Feb 2025 Week 3
Ongoing Series - Thai
ThamePo (Fri YT) ep 11 of 13 - oh noes. classic ep 11 break up. Doom! Despair!Ā Only in this show itās all very genteel and soft. I suspect a separation is in order.
The Boy Next World (Sun IQIYI) ep 7 of 10 - It wouldnāt be a Mame show if somebody wasnāt a chronic liar and another someone refused to take no for an answer. Let the red flagging commence.Ā I gotta say, without the actual parallel world (?) the mind reading kid doesnāt make sense anymore. OMG Tong is playing original Thorn again. Gosh its been ages.Ā Do we really want a TT flashback tho?
Also now I am distracted by wanting Thorn to get a romance, only not written by Mame.
Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 17 of 24 - Yes. I love them. This couple. These are them for me! Fai is my favorite broken sunshine. I cannot wait to see how this romance progresses.
Flirt Milk (Sat YT) ep 5 or 10Ā - I actually really love the side couple. I could not give a wet rat's arse about the mains. Lovely to see Tenon turn up, no matter how briefly (and sadly covered in clothes).Ā
Ossanās Love Thailand (Mon YouTube) ep 7 of 12 - EarthMix give cute BF. But then EarthMix always have given good boyfriend.Ā
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
When it Rains it Pours (Japan Thurs Gaga) fin - This had a solid little ending, and I wasnāt sure they were gonna stick the landing. But they did. Certain other pre-existing relationships did not end in a satisfying way, but for our lead couple, we got closure.
I really enjoyed this show, not despite it's darkness but because of it. Certainly cheating and escaping dysfunctional LTRs is dark subject matter and not for everyone (frankly it usually isnāt for me) but this was Japan at its BL best, and they handled it with consummate (if stiff) elegance. In the end this was actually a lovely little narrative about finding your person despite being held in stasis by the wrong one already. And while Iām not sure this will get many re-watches from me, but I still appreciate this BL for the unique voice and storyline that it added to the general BL zeitgeist. 9/10
FC Soldout (Korea Thurs iQIYI) eps 5-6 of 8 - The most amazing thing about this show is how little actual football is being played... ever. At all. I love a sports romance, and we get them so rarely in BL. I wish there were more sports. And more romance, for that matter. Although this installment was a bit of an improvement in the love arena. I am living for the side couple. Captain Oblivious shouldāve known what he was doing when he called his pretty boy "pretty." Left himself wide open. (Sports pun intended.) And I do love our new 11th hour pretty boy as well. He v fine.
Eternal Butler (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 10 of 12 - oh good, a bit of a fight scene. Confession time! I guess the Ever models are all fully functional? Also yay verse!!! I kinda miss Ever 4's sexy glasses.Ā
Heart Stain (Korea Weds IQIYI) eps 5-6 of 8 - Iām still liking this quite a bit. The teen angst of a love triangle notwithstanding. The drama over previous relationships too. Admittedly, I could get pretty much all of this but 1000x better with Light On Me but that aired a while ago, and I'm disposed to be pleased that we get any new KBL at all right now. All that said, I do generally prefer KBLs set in the adult sphere.
Checkered Shirt (Korea YT) ep 3 of 8 -Ā now I'm back to liking this. The leads have good chemistry and itās fun when theyāre just kind of in conversation with each other, even if itās awkward. Plus there was some linguistic negotiation, always makes me happy. Also cute kisses!Ā
Fight for Love (Vietnam YT) ep 3 - honestly not the best idea to make a pass at a boy right after heās discovered his boyfriend cheating.
Impression of Youth (Taiwan Weds Viki) eps 7 of 9 - I just wish this were better. But unfortunately we have to accept the BL we are given. especially from Taiwan
Exclusive Love (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 3 of 12 - Iād be confused too if a dude was clearly in love with me and just kept denying it. This remains an extremely odd show with random murderers and flautists popping in out of nowhere. It's a bummer because the chemistry is good all round, I just wish there as a story or something. Ā
Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 20 end? - if that is the last episode it was a pretty ghastly last ep. Iāll give you a summary review next week if no ep 21 drops. Ooof.
It's airing but......
Gelboys (Thai Weds iQIYI) ep 1 of 7 - Iām immediately terrified by the fact that heās carrying a guitar around. Itās slow with that dirty gritty high school authenticity thing from OG Love Sick. Which is not my favorite style of any show, let alone BL. I always get Kids PTSD. I think Iām gonna give this show a pass. Itās just too far out of my wheelhouse. I donāt have patience for this right now.
Slashes and Hearts (Pinoy YT) - the Philippines is doing Drop Dead Gorgeous only all gay boys queening their little asses off. Nobody has any chemistry with anybody else, so I have no idea where this is going (ore meant to go). Iām not mad about it. (Well I was a little upset by the terrible dance number. ) But Iām not gonna report on it in the weeklies, either.
The Last Time (Thai WeTV) trailer - from 2024, not sure about this one, looks dark. Since it's also difficult for me to get hold of I am giving it a pass until I know about the ending.
In Case You Missed it
Among others, My Ride is leaving Gaga soon, if you haven't watched it you should do so before it gone.
Thai BL grew up with this pulp (the first ever to make my end of year top 10). Itās a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine (AKA a cinnamon roll couple) plus mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an āother side of the tracksā slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics (elder gays!). With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesnāt impede, the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you canāt go wrong with this show.

Next Week Looks Like This:
2/27 Secret Relationships (Korea iQIYI) - Stars Wei's Kim Jun Seo. Adapted by Cradle Studio (Kakao). About clever and resourceful Daon who has worked hard to overcome being poor. His cheap ways annoy his coworker, Sunghyeon but after āan incidentā with his parents, Daon grows closer to him. But Daon also has feelings for his former tutor. This has the signs of a classic Kdrama all over it: Office setting, love triangle, lead suffering for his self-actualization. Iām optimistic about a longer treatment.

I am here actually to appreciate your post. I saw a bloggerās post saying The sign would have been āsuccessfulā had it got filled with fantasy and romance and limit action to 10%. I wondered why that person, who says BL is all about romance, watched a show whose genre is action. Then I saw your post about people watching many shows to stay in fandom and I agree. Also you are right about dramas with a complex story receiving heavy criticism. Everything (even lack of proper plot or conflict) is exempted in a romance drama. No wonder most BLs are confined to ā2 boys and their jealous & crying moments, routine conflicts enhanced by Escola or leads explaining how important Nikon printer is for their relationshipā
Well damn hit me in the feels with this appreciation I'ma get all shy and shit.
I always wonder if by "successful" people mean in terms of critical acclaim, story telling, or monetarily. When it comes to Thai shows - and some please correct me if I'm wrong - it's difficult to tell how "successful" they are terms of audience reach/monetarily because there's no easily verifiable information. Like, there's Youtube numbers sure, but The Sign as an example, aired on Channel 3 what were it's ratings total on that channel? Idk, does anyone know that? Sincerely asking lol
Personally the way I like to judge a piece of media is what I call the Roger Ebert method; he often judged films based not solely on whether they were "good" or "bad but by how successfully they accomplished their goals.
If you read his review of Space Jam while it's clear Ebert doesn't think the movie is high art, "You can watch the movie on the sports and cartoon levels, and also appreciate the corporate strategy that's involved. [...] It is difficult for an actor to work in movies that combine live action with animation, because much of the time he cannot see the other characters in a scene with him. But Jordan has a natural ease and humor, an unforced charisma, that makes a good fit with the cartoon universe."
Ebert praises that the film, while filled with obvious product placement and banking on both nostalgia for the toons & star power of Jordan, accomplishes it's goal of being a family for that can be enjoyed by adults and children, and also the ability to blend techniques of live action, animation and 3D rendering.
I bring this up specifically b/c when I see "reviews" of shows in BL - the most common form of meta I see in BL fandom as a whole and that's not a knock just an observation - it's usually always about the narrative. Nothing about the filmmaking. And if there is discussion about he filmmaking it's usually misinformed or worse misinforming - no that's not what aperture means, yaoi framing isn't really a thing in film, the t-shirt is really just a t-shirt, etc, etc.
And like I get why. Fandom is more about story, what the words on a page or what the characters on screen are doing and saying. It's easier to talk about the amazing communication two characters have b/c you don't really need a film knowledge to discuss that. Which is a factor in why I think shows with lower stakes, more streamlined and straightforward plots get praised at a higher, less diligent and harsh level, than shows that are a bit more daring. They're less challenging in structure, they take less risks, so there's less to critique, and there's less room for a show to disappoint.
There comfort food, rather than trying something new at the restaurant. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, again, this is just a general observation.
To me, The Sign is miles better than Cooking Crush on a simple technical level. I only watched one episode of Cooking Crush and I found it pretty mediocre at best from all technical points: acting, editing, cinematography, directing, storytelling.
This isn't to say Cooking Crush is "bad" or that even if Cooking Crush was "bad" people shouldn't like it. I don't give a fuck if people like it, good for you chase the things that spark joy! I like lots of "bad" media, have y'all ever watched Jason Takes Manhattan?
For me, The Sign, like Space Jam, accomplishes it's goals and those were ambitious goals. An action fantasy BL that actually lives up to that premise and looks good?? The fight choreography looks great considering the obviously budget??
Like one of my issues with Laws of Attraction - aside from how painfully disinterested those kisses looked - was the fight choreography was bad.
The characters very rarely land hits in a way that looks real, or even marginally real. I can only speculate they didn't hire a stunt coordinator and/or couldn't hire stunt doubles so there was a worry of injury on set (for both reasons).
This isn't a disparagement on the actor(s) either, like stunt work is difficult and it's important to have professionals on set who can walk an actor through the steps so both them and others don't get hurt. Jackie Chan is probably one of the best known actors alive for stunt work, but watch how many times he fumbles and potentially hurts himself to the point where other actors are actively worried for him:
youtube
So yeah I'm going to give The Sign it's fucking gold star stickers b/c aside from some missteps in the gun handling - to many one handed gun fights but even then it wasn't all the time and bullets ran out of ammo! Y'all don't know how exciting for me that was to see - the fight scenes look damn good.
I understand the work that went into them, I understand the pre-production time that it took for the crew and cast to learn that and filming them well is another beast too.
There's a couple scenes with shaky cam that I dislike, but god do I love that first long take in The Sign. I love how good the CGI looks overall again, considering what is probably less budget than Black Christmas (2019).
I'm admittedly, fucking picky about what I watch b/c I'm really lazy and prefer watching films in general. I don't really like TV all that much, but if I am watching a tv show I wanna be impressed with more than just the characters talking to each other. Especially if said show is 12 hours or more.
When I'm looking at a piece of media - a comic, a novel, a film, a tv show - I'm thinking about stuff like "what were it's goals, and did it accomplish them? How was the filmmaking? How was the narrative structure? What is the time/place/culture this was made in?"
I'm not sure if people are arguing if The Sign was "successful" in terms of narratively, monetarily, or critically.
In reality we can only really speculate on how successful a Thai BL is based on data that's not not entirely accurate - social media, youtube stats, awards, etc - and even then most of that is based off international audience.
I can glean that 2gether was successful for gmmtv b/c it got a second season and a film, pretty much skyrocketed Bright and Win's individual careers but again, and created a cross country alliance for activism. But even all that is still speculation not facts (except the alliance that's a real thing that happened lol).
[This is all regardless of my own feelings regarding the show which is not kind. But feelings have nothing to do with individual discussion about how monetarily successful or accomplished a show is or isn't.]
Like it might be valid speculation on both shows but it should always come with a disclaimer of - these are not facts. Also, what is "popular" or "successful" can and will be dependent on individual countries too.
Take Cutie Pie for example, I would argue that it wasn't super "successful" here with American fans, but given how overwhelmingly popular Zee and NuNew are in both Thailand and Korea, I would then argue that the show was a success in Thailand and Korea. So was Cutie Pie "successful" or not? I would say yes!
Because "success" isn't and shouldn't be measured only by how western fans receive a piece of media.
In regards to The Sign, I'd argue it appears to be very successful with only the partial data I have at hand - social media which includes places like twitter, facebook, tumblr, the success of their sold out showing for the finale, a special episode, etc. If people argue it was unsuccessful in terms of narrative, well that's debatable and I have no interest in debating why the show is good except in terms of technical filmmaking and storytelling.
And even then it's a pointless debate like or dislike whatever just don't lie or mislead people regarding film terminology and techniques or harass people because they did like A Thing or clog up the tags with annoying posts about how you didn't like said Thing.
Overall, I don't give "reviews" on things I watch either positive or negative cause, well, I'm lazy lol, I don't believe putting how much I hate a show in it's tags and a thorough rating system would be to much work. I actually like how My Drama List rating system works, I just find most reviews on it to be Annoying lmao. Like giving Kinnporsche a 5 or below is absolutely bonkers to me but whatever es lo que es. But I also don't think my thoughts and opinions on shows are that valuable in terms of discussion.
These are mostly my general thoughts on fandom at large and it's not directly at any particular people its just observations at large across various social media platforms.
I think if you like more squeecore shows that's totally gucci, I just wish didn't proposite that 1) those are the only valid shows in terms of BL/queer media and 2) didn't overhype them to such sky high levels

hello ! i just read your fic āthe bright green taste of soapā it was such a fun read and i really loved how much thought was put into the descriptions for food , do you have any ideas about the other strawhatsā favorite food or maybe the kind of food their home islands had :0?
oh man, i cannot thank you enough for sending this question in, because i have SO MANY IDEAS about the Straw Hats favorite foods.
I'm using what's been officially listed in the SBS content here as a starting point because I think it's more fun to play with than just choosing my own, but as you'll see there's a lot of variation and interpretation that goes on in my head. I'm also gonna have to split this ask into multiple parts because of the character limit, so bear with me!
LUFFY ā all kinds of meat
āMeatā is such a broad term that it could apply to almost anything, so Iām taking further context from the fact that most often when we see Luffy eating meat, heās chowing down on one of those comically large āmeat on a boneā dealies. To me this means Luffy loves the taste of meat in and of itself, so heād be more partial to preparations that showcase that full meaty flavor: think things like standing rib roasts, butter basted steaks, whole legs of lamb, etc.
We also know he likes big pieces of meat, so in my opinion his favorite would be meat prepared in an earth oven, a common technique world over used for cooking whole animals. Large pits dug into the ground and filled with smoldering coals/wood that are then covered, allowing the meat to cook low and slow.
Notable examples include Hawaiian kalua, which often involves roasting a whole pig, and Mexican barbacoa, which can be used to roast whole sheep, goats, and even cows. I also think heād really enjoy Central Texas style barbeque brisket, which is known for being minimally seasoned (salt and pepper only), instead getting its flavor from being slow smoked over post oak. I also think heād be very into Filipino lechon.
ZORO ā white rice, sea beast meat, food that complements sake
Iām gonna ignore the āfood that complements sakeā and just focus on the other two because ngl chat, I donāt think Zoro really cares if what heās eating pairs well with his sake.
Sea beast meat I find interesting because itās more specific than Luffyās just plain olā meat. With sea beasts being ocean dwelling creatures I imagine their meat is generally more reminiscent of fish, which leads me to think that if given the choice between animal meat and seafood, Zoro would choose seafood.
Specifically I think heād be a fan of things with full flavor and a firmer texture; think swordfish, bluefin tuna, mahimahi, Pacific salmon, chilean sea bass (which is where the idea for the ceviche request in The Bright Green Taste of Soap came from!), etc. I also think heād love raw oysters and would eat them in the dozens.
As for the rice: knowing that Zoro is originally from a village founded by immigrants from Wano, I think Zoro grew up eating a lot of the short grain rice known in the US as sushi rice. I think rice is a comfort food to him, and I also imagine he has that Asian thing where no matter what heās eating, he has to have a little rice with it or his mind wonāt comprehend it as a full meal.
It seems like most of the fandom has already pegged his favorite iteration of rice to be onigiri, which honestly? Hard to argue with, onigiri are delicious. His favorite fillings would be salmon and tarako (salted cod roe); he also enjoys yaki onigiri (grilled onigiri). I think he would hate tuna mayo flavor because he thinks mayonnaise is an affront to the gods he doesnāt believe in.
I think heād enjoy other kinds of plain rice too, such as jasmine and basmati (both of which are long grain rices known for having more floral, aromatic notes), and Thai-style sticky rice, which holds together so well you can eat it with your hands.
And I think heād like rice derived foods like rice noodles, rice paper wrappers, chueng fun (steamed rice noodle rolls), mochi, dango, etc. Probably the closest heās ever come to liking a dessert is mochi filled with shiroan (white bean paste).
(Side note: I've always thought the fact that Zoro's least favorite food being chocolate because it's too sweet was weird because chocolate rather famously has a very wide sweetness spectrum, so I like to think Zoro doesn't know that dark chocolate is a thing until Sanji introduces it to him, at which point he becomes enamored of it. He's one of those freaks that likes the 85%+ dark varieties.)
And finally (Zoro has more headcanons because Iāve got fic in the works that deal with a lot of this lol), I think Zoro would absolutely hate arborio rice, i.e. the kind of rice used to make risotto. I think he would find the texture (which is famously creamy) completely incongruous with what he thinks of as rice in his head and heād be like, physically unable to eat it. Like it would make him gag and very possibly throw up. So Sanji makes risotto whenever heās mad at Zoro.
NAMI ā mikans and other kinds of fruit
(First a quick note: the official English translations have mikans listed as tangerines, which is incorrect; theyāre actually satsuma mandarins, which are even better than tangerines. I refuse to put up with this blatant citrus erasure!)
Honestly this one is deeply hilarious to me because can you imagine how crushed Sanji must have been when he realized his darling Nami-swanās favorite food was one that required absolutely no preparation from him? 10/10 for comedy gold Oda, love it.Ā
That said, I think Nami would enjoy any food that could use fresh mikan segments or fresh mikan juice, like a mikan salad or a regular greens salad with a mikan vinaigrette, or for something sweet, mikan juice popsicles.Ā
I could also see Sanji getting really into juicing as he strives to create new refreshments for the crew and making a lot of mikan juice drinks or cocktails.

But what about the Silmaril's rights?
Or "the erason why the Feanorians shouldn't get them, which may be somwhat compelling even to the more pro-feanorian of you (because it's not about the Sindar)" (to be clear: my goal is not to invalidate the Sindar)
So, the Silmarils are alive. They do have feelings: they enjoy the light (I will not give quotes because my book is in Polish, but it's in their description). This may be a hyperbole or something, like Balrog's wings of shadow, but I'm not sure it is. Elves, with their ability to perceive other minds, would probably not attribute feelings to something that doesn't have them. Not in a serious text like the Annals of Aman.
How did Feanor make them, you ask? He cannot create life. Yes. He didn't create them in the strict sens, or even in the typical artistic sub-creation sense. He bred them. He created them like an artisan gardener creates a living chair from a willow. He bred them from the light of the Trees, and they are offspring of the Trees.
Does it mean they belong to Yavanna? No, I don't think so. In the logic of modernday agricultural corporation or dog breeder they would, but I don't think she would see them as more hers than every plant is hers. More beloved by her, maybe. Maybe not. She has no problem with the idea of them dying, so probably less.
I'm not going to make claims on who they legally belong to under this or that law, that's not the point of the post.
The point is that they are creatures with feelings. And they love light, they metabolize light, they probably need light to thrive. And Feanor in his later days keeps them closed in a dark treasury. And Melkor keeps them on his evil face (considering their nature I would be very unsurprised if the burning of the evil caused them as much pain as the burned person) in a dark fortress.
That's animal magical jewel abuse.
And the sons of Feanor who want to claim them, would also all cause pain to them. Sure, ok, maybe they would keep the gems in a bright, uncovered place where they could see their cousins (sun and moon) and shine for all to see and not be closed like a pupy in a cage. Maybe they would not touch them.
Both of those seem extremely unlikely, considering all facts. SoF are reasonable, and the reasonable thing to do with the Silmarils is to keep them secret, keep them safe in a dark, closed place. (And if you think they would give the jewels proper enrichment, look into my eyes and say: "Yes, I think that the sons of Feanor would put empathy for other living being over their oath".)
(Yes, I know thay have trauma. This post is not about hating them. It is about whether they are fit to take good care of magical jewels. Unprocessed trauma doesn't help in that. they need emotional support jewels, and the Silmarils are not trained for that, they do have a trauma of their own.)
And the Silmaril loved Luthien, oh how itloved her, she shone so bright and the gem drank it and gave it back and it was wonderful it was killing her but she loved this little creature too much to care.
It's complicated. You have a (magical and somewhat holy puppy) who one guy bred and abused (because he didn't know how to care for it and was made distrustful of the people who could teach him, and he had unprocessed trauma), then he died and now his sons believe they'd all go to hell if they don't get the puppy and keep it safe in a tiny cage, and there's the girl who stole the puppy from a terrible guy who abused it (because he's Like That), and it's so happy with her and then there's all that mess.
(I imagine them as some weird thing between animal, plant and magic... they don't talk or move, but they do feel a lot.)
So, as I asked in the title: what about their rights?
#silm#silmarillion#tolkien legendarium#the silm#the silmarillion#silmarils#silm crack#sort of#the waqy of explaining it is cracky#but the actual concept?#not very supported by canon but fits with the world I think#tw animal abuse mention#yes from not on I shall imagine the legendary jewels that thousands have died for as cute

Baji Keisuke headcanons
Hi.
I made a Baji mood board.
That made me want to write some Bajiās headcanons.
These are only about him but I might do dating hcs as well in another post.
Thatās my first post pls be nice.
! English is not my first language !
/!\ Suggestive themes toward the end, college Baji /!\

First of all, this man CANNOT cook. Like he could literally put the kitchen on fire trying to cook pasta.
However, it doesnāt bother him to help in the kitchen. Itās not unusual to see him help to cut vegetables for Emma when sheās making dinner for everybody.
Also speaking of Emma, he respects her like a little sister. She has some superpower on him where she has a freepass to boss him around (as she does with the rest of the gang too. Queenš).
I believe he would play the battery as a way to exult his emotions. Itās like hitting someone. Heās quite good at it and obviously he prefers to play rock.
He does English boxing and Thai boxing too. Heās better at English boxing though.
His muscles are not the bodybuilder type. They donāt show that much. Donāt get me wrong, he still has a six pack and well built biceps and back muscles, but they are not THAT big compared to Drakenās or Kakuchoās ones. Like when heās dressed you canāt really see just how strong he is. Even though they donāt look that big, his muscles are pure raw strength. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HOW MUCH STRENGTH HE HAS.
He has a thing for chubby girls, something about the thighs and the round shape makes him feral.
Has respect for people who have confidence and stand their grounds.
Doesnāt hit girls. But knows to respect a worthy opponent. If for some reasons he ever has to fight a girl who knows how to kick ass, like at boxing practice or something, he will have no mercy and fight just like he would a guy.
I think he was raised in a christian family, but itās more of his extended family. Like his mom had him baptized for the family but they donāt really practice religion. He doesnāt know a lot about Christian customs. Also he often wonders about the existence of god, but does not really believe in him either.
I donāt think he would be a fuckboy. He is up for one night stands but he wouldnāt do it so often like people portray him.
He would also be up for friends with benefits if he meet the right person. Someone he finds hot but wouldnāt get too attached to. He wouldnāt want to catch feelings like that.
Let me explain. He is not the type to catch romantic feelings easily, so if he does he would want to take it slow before going farther. He would flirt for a long time, enjoying the rush the pre-dating state gives him, also it gives him the time to accommodate to his feelings and the idea of commitment. It would be like a non official dating type of dating. Then, when itās the right time, he will make it happen and start officially dating.
If the person he flirts with wants to cut short to the flirt and establish a relationship faster, he will agree if he is sufficiently in love. Else he might feel uncomfortable if itās too fast.
He looooooves sour candy, even though he is not much on sweet and sugary food. He prefers spicy food.
Pookie is completely clueless when it comes to social understandings and communication skills. However he can have some flashes of lucidity when it comes to reading people. Letās not forget that he knew from the start that Kisaki was a bitch. So sometimes he is surprisingly the first one to notice when one of his friends is feeling down.
He has some distant North African genes from his dad, but doesnāt know anything about that culture.
By the way, he doesnāt know anything about his dad either. He left really early in Bajiās life, and cut contact. He doesnāt really feel the need for a dad since his mom and friends were always here for him. But there was some times in his adolescence where he wished he had someone to explain him how to do stuff. However when he had the opportunity to learn more about his dad, he didnāt take it, claiming he only needed his mom and didnāt want anything to do with that man.
Still, he has a lot of anger issues because of it.
He sometimes steals music cds at the store because heās broke.
You canāt convince me this man doesnāt respect women. His mom gave him respect women juice since he knows how to crawl.
I donāt think he would openly call himself a feminist because boo probably doesnāt even know what it means :,( also he might say some awkward and stereotypical shits sometimes, but itās more because of ignorance and his lack of social awareness and communication skills, than a disdain towards women.
He will definitely defend women rights, though he can be a bit unaware about misogyny, mostly because he believes that gender equality is an indubitable truth of nature and that everyone thinks like him because it is so obvious.
Thereās actually not a lot of girls that are romantically interested in him. I know this sounds weird but wait. In a society like Japan where reputation is really important, most of people tend to avoid delinquents like him. So in fact, there are not as many girls as we might think that would try to pursue him.
Plus, he can have a really harsh personality with people he doesnāt know or doesnāt care about, which tends to repel most girls with a bit of self esteem. (š)
He doesnāt smoke on a daily basis. He sometimes does at parties or when he is in a social context. But else he is not a regular smoker.
Had tried š a few times.
Once had a dream that Chifuyu had a crush on him. After that he had a short paranoid period when he viewed everything Chifuyu did as a flirting move.
Often plays video games with Kazutora and Mikey, mostly plays Call of duty or Valorant. But he also likes to play horror games with Chifuyu, and make fun of him when heās scared.
He does gaming night with the gang, where they play games like Prop Hunt or Among Us. It often ends up with someone throwing hands.
He has a high libido. He can get excited easily because he has a dirty and kinky mind.
Often fantasize about the college nurse, like, not her in particular but the idea of a sexy older woman taking care of him after a fight, and ending up having sex in the infirmary.
Loves milf.š
Like he would have no problem dating someoneās mother.
He loves the risk, and the idea of someone needing him so badly they are willing to put their moral/reputation on the line is a total kink of his.
Has no problem going down on someone. Our women protector boy loves to make a girlie feel good and desired. š«¶
He has a kink of completely public sex, though he probably wouldnāt act on it since he can be quite shy about his romantic or sexual relationships.
He doesnāt like the idea of people knowing how he is in the intimacy. That includes both romantic and purely sexual relationships.
Okay thatās all, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed. Tell me if you want me to write more stuff cause idk if that was good.š§āāļø

Rose Recaps 2023 - Thailand
Ok. Let me just get this out of the way. If there were awards for "started of great but forgot what it was about by the end" Thailand would win them all. No other country can touch them. So when I was going through my list of watched Thai Bls there weren't all that many to choose as favourites. but I'll try to be kind.
The one about family
Moonlight Chicken
First and foremost this show is stunning. This really cannot be overstated. I really enjoyed all the different relationships represented here and that the idea of family is what you want it to be. I love all of them, and Wen did absolutely nothing wrong.
Favourite Moment This conversation left me in tears.
The one hated by so many but not me
Dangerous Romance
This was me whenever there was a new episode.
I'm not gonna say people were wrong. Everybody has the right to their own opinions. But I never expected anything else.
This show gave me exactly what I expected of it. They made a romantic version of the trailer for christ sake. The ost video that came out the day before the premiere was a love fest with the softest song sang by Chimon. I agree that the first 2 episodes were different and for some, misleading about the direction of the show.
Not for me though. I got what I wanted. Chimon and Perth on my screen being boyfriends with some drama sprinkled in for good measure. And with the amazing bonus that was Marc and Pawin together again and the character of Auto that I just adored. I actually enjoyed all the characters in this one.
Favourite Moment
The one that is beautiful
I Feel You Linger In The Air
The amount of screenshots I took while watching this would fill a hard drive. It's just gorgeous. The way they played with the spaces was just such a treat.
This show was almost perfect. I had a couple of issues with it midway through and I felt that they dragged the goodbye a tiny bit much but overall I really liked it. These two are very special but overall there were a lot of characters to root for and enough of them to hate, which I appreciate.
But also WHERE IS THE SPECIAL??? I need to watch it!
Favourite Moment
The one that was I was ready to hate and then didn't
Be My Favourite
Confession time. I didn't like Krist. Watching SOTUS was something I endured but didn't enjoy for the most part. I know I'm not alone in this. But also. I didn't like Fluke. In anything. He was the only thing I didn't like in Not Me, and I skipped most scenes of his couple during Dark Blue Kiss. No particular reason tho. I just didn't enjoy watching him. So the bar was set pretty low on this one for me.
And then what happened? I loved Kawi. Like immediately. And surprise surprise, I liked Fluke. Immediately. It's like I was on an alternate universe and I couldn't believe my eyes.
With that said, it was not even close to a perfect show. It started off really strong, I enjoy the way the relationship grew, I loved that the characters were being honest with each other and being mostly kind to one another. Some moments felt really grounded. And then it kinda fell apart for me. But this is a positive post so I'm not going there.
Favourite Moment: The whole montage.

Wedding Plan
I already explained what I went through with this show here prompted by this episode of @the-conversation-pod. You should all go listen to this and all the other episodes because both @bengiyo and @shortpplfedup are brilliant and funny in convenient audio format.
Anyway, in the end I loved this show so much and took me a minute to come to terms that it was actually that good. The characters are actually multidimensional and the woman have depth. Groundbreaking stuff.
Favourite Moment

My School President
Not gonna lie, not a huge fan of singing in my bl. But this was great. From the beginning the fact that it made constantly remember my beloved Love Sick was an unexpected and delightfull bonus. I was living for Tinn's expressions, Tiw just being delightfully loyal and the epitome of sharing one brain cell group of friends. Not to forget the parental relationships that were some of the best of the year. I even liked the singing.
Favourite Moment
The extra one
Our Skyy 2 - A Tale of a Thousand Stars
This happened. It was perfect. That's it.
I watched more than 40 thai shows that came out this year, I'm not counting the ones that are still on, and these were my favourites. Mostly because some of them were the ones that I had the least to complain about.
That's it for my recaps. I still wanna gif some stuff today and it's late so I can't review this post again so if there are mistakes, don't tell me. It'll haunt me.
Have a good nightš

Wedding Plan and the Evolution of MAME

I have a bit of a love/hate thing going on with MAME, one of the most notorious writers in the bl genre. Her shows have traditionally been a mixed bag of incredible chemistry, high heat, dubious consent, and pushy semes transgressing every boundary laid out for them, all of it built atop a foundation of heteronormativity and homophobic tropes. In the early years of bl, her shows were one of the only places you could go to see mature depictions of intimacy in relationships, but they also necessitated dodging through a landmine of problematic content. So my long standing policy has been to never watch her shows live and instead binge them when theyāre done so that I can go in with some idea of what to expect. As someone who liked Love By Chance and TharnType for what they did well despite their problematic aspects, and actually kinda loved Love in the Air, I figured I would watch Wedding Plan at some point, but it wasnāt that high on my priority list.Ā
So imagine my surprise when people I trusted started telling me: hey wait, this is actually really good? Like, not good for MAME, but genuinely, legitimately a quality show. @bengiyo wrote a great post on the queer read of the story that was very intriguing indeed. @ginnymoonbeam wrote about seeing an authentic representation of her own experiences in the show. When I asked for others to weigh in, @negrowhat, @slayerkitty, @thegalwhorants, @nieves-de-sugui, @he-is-lightning-in-a-bottle, and @magpie24601 all said they were enjoying it to various degrees and that it felt different from MAMEās previous works. So this weekend, I sat down to watch it, and as soon as I finished, I pinged @waitmyturtles, who had previously said she did not intend to watch any additional MAME shows, to tell her she had to add it to her project tracking the evolution of Thai bl.Ā
Because yāall, this show! This show is stunning, in more ways than one. The people and settings are gorgeous (shoutout to that McDonaldās money), the characters are compelling and sympathetic even when they behave in frustrating ways, the romance is properly swoony, the friendships are deep and touching, the family relationships are complex, and the ending is triumphant. I enjoyed it immensely, and I was taken aback by how genuinely rooted in queer experience and celebratory of queer love it felt. It was kind of a revelation, and I felt compelled to get down some thoughts about it. Iām going to break this down by narrative themes and characters so that I can dig into some of the tropes at play and what makes their deployment feel different here than it has in MAMEās previous shows.
The Core Premise

When I say this story feels authentically queer, this premise is the foundation of that. A lavender marriage is something that can only occur between queer characters. Right away, we are kicking MAMEās typical use of heteronormative tropes right out the door, because Lom already has a wife. Yiwa is his stand-in for the female partner his parents and society expect him to have, so Nuea cannot and will not fulfill that role. Instead, Lomās pursuit of Nuea is explicitly about his desire to break away from those constraints and pursue the authentic queer life he has never been allowed to live, even if he has to do it undercover of this facade. Lom is gay, and he is pursuing a relationship with a gay man, and there is no coding here to make a heterosexual audience feel like what he wants with Nuea is the same as what heād have with a woman. The difference, and the way one fulfills Lom while the other doesnāt, is the point.
Nuea

At first glance, our POV character, Nuea, feels like a stock MAME uke character. He is cute, he is a romantic, he is emotionally reactive, and he has a massive crush on Lom pretty much from jump. But pretty quickly, we start to notice some important differences between Nuea and those who came before him, starting with his competence and confidence. Nuea is the ace at his company and excellent at his work, and heās financially comfortable. He is an out and confident gay man with a strong community of coworkers, friends, and family who will support him through anything and close ranks to protect him when needed. He does not share the standard characteristic of typical MAME ukes: uncertainty about who he is and/or low self-esteem. Thereās simply not a whiff of that anywhere on Nuea. He knows who he is, and he knows what he wants. And as the story unfolds and Nuea gets deeper entangled with Lom, we recognize another crucial aspect of him: he is experienced, both emotionally and sexually. Nuea has been in relationships before, he knows how to say no, he knows how to draw a boundary, and he knows when he is deciding to cross one. In short, Nuea has something crucial that a lot of MAME ukes are lacking: power and agency.Ā
We see this throughout his relationship with Lom, as Nuea begins their flirtation eyes wide open about his own feelings and the fire heās playing with, and alternately pulls back and pushes forward as his conscience wars with his desires. Nuea wants Lom. Their attraction is extremely mutual. No one is wearing anyone down or inspiring a sexuality crisis in this dynamic. Instead, Nueaās struggle is rooted in his own morality and desire to be a good person, because he thinks Lom is taken, and he wants him anyway. Which is why we see him waffling so much and sending Lom all kinds of mixed signals, pushing him away with one hand while grabbing him back with the other, drawing boundaries only to step right back over them at the next opportunity. And when he finally crosses a boundary that he canāt rationalize (sex with Lom), he retreats back home to try to get his head together. Itās not an accident that despite Lom being in the active pursuer role, we see Nuea make a conscious decision to move forward and even be the one to initiate a relationship progression at several crucial points in the story. Nuea is making his own decisions here, and he has his own power over Lom that he exercises consistently. Heās warring with himself, not with Lom.
Lom

Lom is also, on the surface, a fairly standard MAME seme character. He wants Nuea, and heās comfortable being pushy about it. He pursues Nuea fairly relentlessly, showing up in front of him even when heās told not to, and leverages his role as Nueaās client to see him as often as possible. He obsessively pines for Nuea in a way that also feels familiar. But for me, there is something that makes Lom stand out and feel markedly different from his predecessors in his romantic pursuit: sincerity and frank honesty.Ā
From the start, Lom is genuine in his interest in Nuea and sincere about how much he likes and admires him. He tells him in a very straightforward manner that he likes him and wants to spend time with him. He tells him he knows he doesnāt have the right, but he wants to kiss him and be near him anyway. He tells him exactly what he intends to do to stay close to him, and then he does it. He tells him honestly that he loves Yiwa, but not in the way Nuea thinks, and that he is not marrying her because heās being forced. āBut Shan,ā I hear you yelling, āhe did not tell him the most important truth!ā And youāre right, he didnāt, at least not until he was forced to do so. Which brings me to the other thing that makes Lom so compelling: the constraints of the closet and his loyalty to Yiwa.Ā
Lom, unlike Nuea, does not have a supportive family or the freedom to live as an out gay man. What he does have is a best friend whom he loves deeply and completely, to the extent that he would sacrifice his own life and chance at happiness to protect hers. He has no choice but to hold some things back, because to lay it all bare would expose not only him, but her. The decision to tell a boy he likes the truth about the nature of their relationship is not just about him; anyone knowing is also a risk to Yiwa and the life she is building with Marine. And he takes his duty to protect that very seriously. On top of that, Lom has been in the closet since he was a teenager. We know that Lom and Yiwa connected over their queerness and their mothersā bigotry when they were only 15 and 13, respectively. They grew up Knowing. That self-protective mindset is not something you can easily shake off, and not something you risk for any given person you develop a crush on. He is trying to walk a line in his pursuit of Nuea to snatch whatever happiness he can without blowing up his entire life.Ā
And to Lomās credit, the moment he realizes how serious he is about Nuea, he goes after him (with Yiwa and Marineās support), dutifully pays his penance and earns the respect of Nueaās family, and finally unburdens himself, looking at Nuea with complete and total honesty and saying to him āThis is who I am, this is my situation, can you deal with it? Do you still want me?ā And by the way he sobs when Nuea says āYESā and asks to be part of his arrangement with Yiwa and Marine, he never expected for someone like Nuea to accept him and all the complications of his life. He was absolutely overcome by gratitude and relief, and you could see the burdens heās been living under start to lighten.Ā
Yiwa and Marine

I donāt have anyone to compare Yiwa and Marine to, because to my recollection, they are the first significant female characters in any MAME story. And significant is an understatement. Yiwa is the engine that drives this entire story. The lavender marriage is her idea, because itās the only way she can think to give herself the freedom to be with Marine under her motherās watchful eye. She is the one who goes to her best friend and begs him to do this for her, because she trusts him absolutely and the devotion between them is complete enough that she knows he will sacrifice in such a monumental way for her. She is the one who encourages Lom to pursue his own happiness with Nuea within the constraints of their arrangement, hoping that he will find his own Marine that can hang in for this half life theyāve constructed to meet the tenets of filial piety. She is the one who ultimately decides to come clean when she sees how the lie is hurting Nuea. And she is the one who makes the final decision to prioritize her love over her obligations to her parents, and in doing so frees them all.Ā
The fact that a character like Yiwa exists in the bl genre at all, let alone in a MAME show, is mind-blowing to me. A female character with this much depth and narrative importance, who is not just here to play a cheerleader to men but instead to be a fully realized character with her own narrative? A female character who matters? In my Thai bl??Ā
And Marine gets to matter, too. Marine, whose experience of coming into this relationship and accepting the limitations of the life Yiwa can offer her is treated with the utmost seriousness. Marine, who we see in joy and in struggle, who is kind and compassionate with Lom, who offers solace and guidance to Nuea, and who ultimately crumbles under the weight of Yiwaās motherās cruelty and reaches her breaking point. As minor as her role is, she feels like a real person, not a generic side character. The relationship between her and Yiwa is developed enough to make us feel invested in their happiness, to understand the choices they make, and to ultimately feel joy at them breaking free and living a more authentic life, even if it comes at the expense of Yiwaās family bonds.
The Ending

Which brings me to the way this show ended its story, and how glorious it was. Yiwa and Marine run away to live on their own, freeing Lom from their agreement in the process. Yiwa takes full blame for the broken engagement, a parting gift to Lom that saves face for his parents and gives him cover to publicly dodge any further expectations for marriage to a woman. Lomās mother, who is just as bigoted but not quite as stubborn and short-sighted as Yiwaās mother, understands exactly what has happened, and reaches out to her son to assure him that she will no longer try to force the issue, and to ask him plainly not to run away from his family like Yiwa did. Itās not the support and love of Nueaās family, but a kind of resigned acceptance that she offers. She knows who Nuea is to her son and she knows if she tries to intervene any further she will lose him for good. It was reminiscent for me of the dynamics between Shiro and his parents in Kinou nani tabetaāit still hurts, but it's a detente everyone can live with.
And Lom and Nuea? Have the freedom to love each other more openly. To flirt in a restaurant and hold hands in public. To live together and call themselves partners to the people who matter. We end on a message from Nuea about the beauty and joy of queer love, the simple nature of two people deciding to marry regardless of their gender, and a promise that someday soon he and Lom will be the ones to make that commitment. Just, perfection, and an earned resolution so rooted in a genuine queer experience. Itās not something I could have imagined seeing in a Thai bl even a few short years ago, and I am stunned that MAME is the one who delivered it. Her storytelling is clearly evolving with the culture around her, and I will be going into her future works with an open mind.
