…
As Y/n and Lando watched Oscar pull his girl in for a kiss, she couldn't help but join some of their friends in hooting for the new couple. It was nice to see Oscar finally be with the girl he'd madly been head-over-heels for—Y/n could recall countless conversations they'd had about this. Smiling at the scene, she felt Lando pull her close to him, his hand resting on her waist.
"Should we get back to the table?" Asked Lando
Looking away from the scene in front of her, Y/n nodded at him and started leading him to their table.
There sat Max, one of Lando's friends who he constantly played games with, and his date.
Taking a seat, Y/n said, "It's so nice to see Oscar finally be happy."
"It is! I'm glad he came today," Lando said, looking at Oscar.
Max laughed to himself, leaning back against the chair he said, "I guess it's nice when things work out the way they're supposed to, huh?" He said, looking at Lando.
Lando narrowed his eyes at Max, "Max..." He said in a warning tone.
Confused by the exchange Y/n asked, "Wait, what's that supposed to mean?"
Max shrugged casually, taking a sip from the flask he had snuck in, "Oh, it's just funny how it all started you know? I just didn't think you guys would actually make it," Max finished.
Lando could feel his heart beating faster, "Max," He said again this time with hint of anger.
Y/n couldn't help but tense up, looking between Lando and Max. "What does he mean by 'How it started' Lando?" She asked.
"Oh nothing, you know how I am, I love to talk nonsense," Max said realizing that he might have said a little too much.
"Lando...What does he mean by that?" Y/n asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lando sighed deeply, his mind racing as he tried to find the right words. He felt angry—angry at Max for opening his mouth when it was not needed, angry at himself for agreeing to do such a stupid thing.
"Y/n..." He started, his voice hesitant. Reaching out for her hand, he said, "It wasn't supposed to mean anything...I had no idea that I would actually fall in love..." He said. He could see the dread wash over Y/n's eyes.
*flashback*
*present*
Y/n felt her heart shatter into a million pieces. All hope and dreams for an amazing night disappeared in an instant. She sat there in silence as she let Lando's words sink in.
"So I was just a 'Dare'?" She asked, still in disbelief.
Lando avoided her gaze, his throat feeling dry. "I—I never imagined that it would turn into this," He said. "At first, it was just a stupid dare, I was just angry about the complaint, but I never thought that..." Lando's voice trailed off. He was not sure what he could say or do to make any of it sound better.
Y/n could feel her eyes sting with tears, "So does that mean all this time, every single conversation we've had, every single moment we've spent together...It was all just a game to you?" Y/n said as tears trickled down her face.
"No!," Lando said suddenly, a little too loud for his liking. He tried to reach out for her hand, but she pulled away, "I didn't mean for it to be like that. It was just a dare at the start, I admit, but the more time I spent with you, the more I realized that I just couldn't continue. I was going to tell you, I swear Y/n," Lando said. "I just didn't know how...." He trailed off again.
"So if you hadn't "fallen in love" with me, would you have still gone through with your plan?" Y/n asked, her voice a mixture of anger and hurt.
Lando opened his mouth but no words came out. He didn't have an answer. Deep down, he knew that no answer would make things right. The damage had already been done.
Y/n stood up abruptly, her chair scraping loudly against the floor. "Congrats!" She spat, her voice filled with bitterness. "You've won your stupid dare. I really hope it was worth it Lando," she said as she started walking towards the exit.
"Y/n please wait!" Lando pleaded.
"NO!" Y/n said, finally letting go of the emotions she had been holding onto till now. "Don't you dare follow me. You've lost the right to do that," she said, her voice cracking at the end.
And with that, she made her way out of the hall, taking Lando's heart with every step she took.

Reputation to uphold
Day 5: No need for poetry.
Summary: Hiding the letters is his first priorities.

Word Count: 1368
Warnings: fluff, azzie being a shy baby 🥹
A/n: i loved writing this hehehe (i wrote most of this in 40 mins 💀)

ANYWAY ENJOYYYY 🥳
°•°•°•○🌑○•°•°•°
"I missed this, mama." Hazel sighed, pulling away her cup of hot chocolate. Azriel smiled, looking over at his daughter, sitting next to his now son in law, Kaden.
What did I say? He was going to take away my daughter.
Y/n raised her brows. "It’s barely been a week since you’ve last had it."
Hazel grimaced. "Yeah, and his hot chocolate does not compare."
"Hey that’s mean!" Kaden sputtered, choking on his own drink.
"Yeah, stop being mean to my son."
Hazel rolled her eyes, turning to her father.
"Dad, come on, tell me a story." She had always been fond of listening to stories, and Az, wanting to make his daughter happy, had begun the new habit of telling stories every night.
Azriel glanced at his wife as she settled in next to him, warmth spreading in his chest. No matter how long they’d been married for, even just the sight of Y/n filled Azriel with happiness. Just as it had back when he had first seen her in the market, giggling with her friends over something.
"What do you want to hear about?"
Hazel leaned back, contemplating before perking up. "How you met mom and got married."
Azriel’s cheeks warmed, and he prayed his wife did not notice.
"Look dad, you’ve always said I was too young to know, but now I am even married. I want to know."
Azriel sighed, looking to his wife for help.
"Yeah Az, I wanna know the story too." Y/n grinned, not meeting his eyes.
Knowing he would not be allowed to leave without reliving his most embarrassing moments, he got comfortable in his chair.
"I saw her in the market one day. She was with her friends, and I instantly knew I was going to marry her one day."
She had been so ethereal, and she was in just a simple flowy dress. Her hair had been pinned out of her face, the breeze softly playing with the strands the way Azriel wished he could. Her smile, it could have brought him to his knees. And her sparkling eyes spoke of kindness far more louder than actions, the love and compassion for her fellow fae shining through every blink.
"Did you ever write her love letters and poetry?"
Azriel scoffed, focusing on the dark dregs at the bottom of his cup. "Me? I don’t have to resort to poetry."
Azriel felt his wife’s gaze on him, and he could picture her perfectly, sitting there, eyebrows raised in a are you sure about that? gesture.
"Yeah, he just ended up drowning in the river trying to impress me."
Azriel turned to glare at Y/n accusingly, who simply shrugged. "Now Az, lying is bad. Someone has to tell the truth."
Azriel grumbled, then again began. This time, truthfully. "Feyre needed some paint supplies from the market, and because I was free, I offered to get them for her."
°•°•°•○🌑○•°•°•°
Azriel never thought he would ever ask someone for a romantic day out. After all, he never had to do that. He would just give females a glance and they would ask him to spend time with them themselves.
But this time, it was not happening. The female in the market square barely spared him a glance when he sidled up to her, pretending to look at all the brightly coloured pots on display at the stand she was giggling with her friends over.
"Y/n, that pot would look so good with your couch!"
Y/n. That name would certainly look good with Azriel’s name next to it.
"Yes Cindy, I’m going to cook on my couch."
Azriel smiled down at the pot in his hands, biting his cheek.
"It certainly is beautiful though." He mumbled, voice low so only Y/n could hear as her two other friends started bickering. He felt her stiffen before she glanced at him.
"That it is. But I don’t think I’m in need of more things."
Azriel swallowed, nodding. "You live near?"
Finally, he gathered the courage to meet her narrowed eyes. "Why do you ask?"
He smiled with a confidence he did not feel. "Where will I pick you up from for our dinner tomorrow then if you don’t tell me?"
She reared back as if his words had a physical impact on him.
"I- I’m sorry, I’m not interested."
Azriel blinked. But before he could say anything, she had grabbed her friends’ hands and dragged them away.
But from the slight blush on her face, he knew that he only needed to try and she would agree.
He bought the pot she had been eyeing so longingly just moments before, then hurried to go get the paints Feyre had asked for.
He was so sure he wouldn’t have to resort to poetry.
°•°•°•○🌑○•°•°•°
The next day, Azriel was back at the market square, trying to figure out which direction she had gone. He had probably been wandering around aimlessly when he spotted the beautiful head of the lady he was so enthralled by.
"Hey. Pleasant day." He said as he fell in step beside the unsuspecting female.
She jumped, wide, frantic eyes meeting his own. Exasperation spread through her features as she realised it was him.
"You- what are you doing here?"
He shrugged, grinning as he held his gloved hand out. "I’m Azriel."
Her brows furrowed. She probably thought Azriel was loose in the head. "Y/n."
"Beautiful name for a beautiful lady."
She sighed. "Look, I’ve already told you I’m not interested."
"Why not?"
She paused. "I don’t like males who think they’re entitled to my time."
He nodded sagely. "Me neither. I hate people like that. But look at this like this, I want to get to know you. Maybe this could be something-"
She sighed. "No. Sorry."
Azriel’s palms turned sweaty. He had found her again, he did not want to let her go without getting something out of this. Even one evening of talking was enough. "I- I am the high lord’s shadowsinger."
Her gaze hardened. "Are you threatening me?"
His eyes widened. "No! I could never! I’m just trying…"
"Trying what?"
"To make you interested in me. It has worked before."
She rolled her eyes. "I don’t like males who try to entice me by stating their high powers."
Panic seized Azriel. This was going very wrong very quickly, and he did not like it one bit.
"I did not mean it that way-"
"Really, sir, I do not care what you meant and what you didn’t. Just leave me alone."
Azriel was left gaping after her, breathing heavy.
Fuck.
°•°•°•○🌑○•°•°•°
Azriel balled up another paper, throwing it behind him before clutching his head.
He had decided that being arrogant and trying to keep up his records of never having to resort to poetry would not help him.
Your eyes like the sun,Shining so beautiful,Your hair like waterfall,You-
Was Azriel truly so bad at poetry?
He was doomed.
She wouldn’t give him the time of day, evident by her refusal to even acknowledge him the three times he had tried to interact with her after that day at the market, and he was losing hope. He had sent countless letters and poems already to her house through his shadows, and he still had received no response.
Maybe he was well and truly doomed.
°•°•°•○🌑○•°•°•°
"You know, I still have all those letters and poems."
Azriel’s head whipped to look at his wife, eyes wide. "Why?"
She shrugged, getting up from the couch and taking the cup from Hazel and kaden, both who grinned unabashedly.
"You think I would burn or throw away letters of desperation sent by the spymaster?" Y/n snorted. "Let me get them for you, children."
"No!" Azriel semi-yelled, shooting to his feet before dashing into their bedroom, hoping to stop her before she even tried to reveal all his secrets.
Loud laughter followed the frantic spymaster, but he did not care. All he cared about was finding those letters and burning them, or maybe atleast hiding them away so his wife couldn’t tease him about it.
He had a reputation to uphold, after all.

Let's Make a Deal
Inspired by this post; in the same universe as this and this and this
Warnings: non/dubcon, power imbalance, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Character: Steve Rogers
Summary: desperate times bring you to desperate measures.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging ❤️
Is it self-pity or self-loathing that has your skin crawling? You can’t quite discern between the emotions rotting in your stomach. All you know, is you can’t stand yourself.
You’re here and you’re not turning back now. You might not have a choice but it’s still a choice. This is what you’ve resorted to. You shudder as you stand at the door of the townhouse. You stare at the doorbell above the little speaker box and every doubt rattles in your head.
‘Seeking companionship. Women without prior experience preferred’.
You always laughed at the desperate, if not trollish, postings. How ridiculous. You always just scrolled on by, assuming them to be no more than a pathetic attempt at phishing. And if they were real, well, that’s even more pathetic.
Even standing there, you can’t be sure it isn’t some scheme. Yeah, you emailed the man behind the ad. You even spoke on the phone. Several times. Trying to be sure but you’re still not.
No one else knows you’re there. You’re too embarrassed for that. It’s foolish too. You could be murdered and no one would know. You’re trying not to think of that. You focus instead on what you stand to gain.
You reach and press the button before common sense gets the best of you. As you wait, you look down at yourself. It’s just what he wanted. ‘Wear a red dress. That way I know it’s really you’. You grit back another wave of disgust.
The door opens and you’re not ready. How can you be? It’s the first time you’re seeing him but not the first time he’s seen you. You can’t even hope that he’ll be repulsed.
You’re silent. Both of you. You gape at him and he stares back. It turns to a leer as his throat bobs and he pushes his shoulders back. He’s bigger than you expect. At least he isn’t the slobbish, greasy man you expected. Not on the outside at least.
“Hi, sweetie,” it’s the same voice from the call. His name is Steve. “You look...” his eyes skim up and down your figure, “well, I can’t really see. You got this coat on.”
You force a smile. Your cheeks feel tight. You can’t speak.
“No need to be nervous,” he grips the door as he holds it open, “hey, why don’t you come inside? You must be freezing out there?”
You nod and step through the door as he stands back. The warmth feels even more stolid as heat roils within you. You look around the entryway. The subtle ripple of the dark hardwood paneling and the old-style banisters. You feel smaller standing inside.
“Let me take your coat,” he tugs on the sleeve.
You don’t stop him. You shrug it off as he strips it away. He turns to hang it in the closet behind the front door and you hug yourself as you take it all in. Not just your surroundings, but your situation. He is a stranger but you’re going to do what you have to do.
“I like that dress,” he startles you as he comes up next to you. “It’s cute.”
You glance down. It’s the only red dress you have. It’s not even yours, actually. You borrowed it from a friend and never wore it.
“Thanks,” you finally find your voice.
“Mm, you sound sweet,” he rests his hand lightly on your back and you feel like melting as heat radiates off of him. “Let me show you around.”
You can only nod. Once more, all sound has evaporated from you. You let him lead you into the next room. A living room just as nice as the front hallway. There’s a fireplace and antique fixtures and the furniture is a cozy shade of cream. There’s exposed brick above the mantel as fire burns behind and iron grate.
You rub your arms, shivering despite the stuffy air. He takes you into the dining room, open to a kitchen with dusty blue counters and deep oak finishes. This place is nice. Big. Much better than the loft you’ve been curled up in for the last two weeks.
“We can check out upstairs later if you just wanna get settled,” he offers.
You look at him, cheeks pinching as your throat constricts. He’s tall. His hair is blond but his beard is dark. His shoulders are broad, even beneath his brown jacket, and his grey tee is stretched across his thick chest. You’re entirely outmatched, more than physically.
“It must be tough. Too bad about the job.” He says.
You draw away, turning your face down as you crumple in shame. Fired, almost homeless, this is your one way out. He’s nice enough. The place is clean. He is too. But it’s just too much. It can’t be real.
You did everything right. You graduated high school. Got your degree. All on time. You worked your butt off through both of those yet you could never break through to more than temp work. Now it’s all dried up, just like your contract. They promised you full-time but it never came.
“Sorry, I know you probably don’t want to talk about that,” he says.
You shuffle around and go to the mantle. You stare at the flames. You don’t think they’re hot enough to thaw the ice creeping over your heart. This isn’t fair.
He might be polite, he might be generous, but he’s still some guy looking for a ‘situationship’ on the internet. And you answered.
You hear him behind you. The floor groans with his weight. You lift your chin and admire the wooden clock on the ledge. You suppose having money can’t help the loneliness. Silence wraps around you, building a shell.
“Come here,” he says, shaking you from your trance.
You blink and turn to him slowly. You drop your arms. You push away the chagrin needling your forehead and face him completely. He sits on the couch, legs wide, arm across the back.
You’re jarred at the sight of him. His chin is down and his eyes are pinpointed on you. You hesitate, fingers fluttering, and make yourself move. One foot, the other, then the first again.
The glean in his blue eyes chills you. His gaze follows you like an animal. You stop only an inch away.
“It’s a nice house,” you say. “I don’t mean to be quiet--”
“I get it. You’re nervous,” he reaches to grab your hand then sits back, tugging you closer. “But you don’t need to play shy.”
He moves you towards him. He brings his arm off the couch and shifts your hip around as he leads you between his legs. He pushes until you fold, sitting on his leg, teetering on it uneasily. He lets out a gritty hum and urges you to lean against him.
He curls his arm around your back to keep you in place and brings his other hand up to stroke your cheek. His eyes bore into you. He presses his knuckles to your cheek and brushes his thumb along your lower lip.
“You’re even more beautiful up close,” he rasps.
“Thank you,” you utter, lip trembling against his thumb.
“It’s gonna be okay,” he toys with your mouth, tracing it as his fingers dig into your hip. “I can take care of you. You like the place, right? You’ll be comfortable here.”
“Sure,” you gulp.
He purrs and pushes his thumb through your lips. You flinch in surprise. He prods at your tongue at he turns his hand to grip your chin, keeping his finger hook in your mouth.
Your gaze meets his. His eyes search your face as they darken. He takes a deep breath and pulls you closer. He shudders in excitement.
“I always wanted someone like you, sweetie,” he drags his thumb out of your mouth and wipes the moisture down your chin. He tickles along our throat as you shiver. “So pretty, so pure.” He plays with the collar of your dress, trailing along the vee as he gives a hum. “Are you nervous for your first time?”
You hold back a whimper. Him saying it out loud makes it real. Coming here, walking through this house, sitting on his lap, those should be enough but those worse are more vivid than anything. You blink and nod.
“It’s okay, sweetie,” his hand travels down the front of your dress. “I’ll be gentle... until you can take all of me.”

School Vigilante Pt.2 | Oscar Piastri
WC: 4062
Oscar x Childhood!friend!reader
Summery:(REQUESTED) You and Oscar finally reconnect after years of not seeing each other, also School reunion
Warning: Fighting, cursing?
Part 1
Masterlist
Oscar Masterlist
Oscar hesitates, taking a small step your way. You smile and walk his way; your arms open for him, and he then doesn’t hesitate after that. His arms wrap around your waist, pulling you in. You laugh almost not believing it.
“Oh, my fucking god Oscar, it’s been so long.” You say and he just holds you tighter.
“Too long.” Oscar says, and he reluctantly let’s go of you. Your smile makes him smile. He remembers how hard it was to get you to genuinely smile in school, but here you are now all smiley. You both just stare at the other for a moment, taking in all the changes, and everything that stayed the same. Lando coughs on the side and the moment is broke, Oscar looks at his teammate and raises an eyebrow. “You know you brought a Red Bull athlete into our motorhome, right?”
Lando groans and throws his head back. “Don’t remind me.”
It was only after the Free Practices that you and Oscar are able to meet up. You had to spend the time in the Red Bull garage, you agreed to meet by the McLaren motorhome. And when Oscar comes out he sees you waiting for him there.
“You know it’s unbelievable that we haven’t share our phone numbers yet.” Oscar says coming up to you, he kept thinking about how he wouldn’t find you, how that was it, the logical part said that he now knows you’re friends with Lilly and could get your number from her. All that didn’t matter though because here you are, waiting for him.
“Is that your way of asking me for my number?” You tease him and a slight flush covers his cheeks, before he sheepishly nods. “Give me your phone then.”
You both exchange your phones and put in your numbers.
Oscar goes back to his hotel to change, and you meet him there later in one of the dinning rooms. You share a quick hug when you meet again before settling down and ordering.
“You know I told you, you’d make it to Formula 1.” You say with a grin, Oscar can’t help but smile.
“Yeah, was a bit rocky start but I still can’t believe it sometimes.” He tells you.
“I’m sure with the whole Alpine thing.” Oscar looks surprised that you knew about it. “Didn’t think I’d keep up with what you’re up to?”
“Not really.”
“Best rookie in F1 history after Lewis Hamilton?” You say feeling proud of him.
“Okay, okay. I get it.” Oscar then turns the conversation towards you. “What about you? signed by Red Bull, in TWO sports and being a world champion in one and coming up second in the other.”
You shrug and play with the napkin, feeling embarrassed yourself that the conversation turned to you. “Not as big of a deal as driving for Formula 1.”
“I beg to differ, not many cared about Formula 1 until a few years ago, didn’t make it any less amazing, same with you.” Oscar wouldn’t have you doubting how amazing you are.
The food comes and you talk about everything and anything all while eating. The conversations and the laughs flowed easily. As if time didn’t pass from the moment, you stopped talking all those years ago.
Sadly, the night had to come to an end, Oscar had FP3 and Quali the next day and he had to rest as much as possible.
“I have a week off, after Japan.” Oscar throws out there, he’s going to take the chance and just ask you out, like he should’ve all those years ago. “Are you free?”
“I am, what country are you going to be in?”
“The UK.”
“Hmm, I can make it.”
“So, you’ll go on a date with me.”
“Of course.” You’re both a smiling mess, happy to have finally taken another step in your relationship.
It wasn’t just one date; it was multiple dates. It was tricky to juggle both your schedules, two athletes in the middle of their seasons. But you best face time was on whenever you could. You were there in Hungary when Oscar got his first win, the relationship was still fresh so you both decided to keep it on the low. You got to celebrate with him after. There were lots of hugs and kisses involved, because no matter what anyone says, he deserved that win and no one could take it away from him.
You did meet his family in Singapore, they were all so welcoming and nice. His mum scolded you for putting yourself in danger all those years ago, even if you’re trained and it was to save her son. His sisters thought you’re so cool for it.
They looked you up online and saw videos of what you do.
“You know I tried DM-ed you when you got signed by McLaren.” You told him one day, you were at your house, chilling.
“Really?” Oscar frowned and took out his phone, opening his Instagram, he clicked on your name and then opened the messages and saw that you did in fact text him. “I didn’t see that at all.”
“It’s understandable.” You tell him, not feeling offended, you’ve seen how his DMs could look like. “But I was so proud of you, and I still am.”
“Thank you, you always believed I’d make it to Formula 1.” Oscar looked at you, his hand resting on your knee. You were siting on the small sofa, tilted to face each other, your leg was tucked under your butt, resting on his thigh, while the other was placed on the ground. Now Oscar was rubbing your knee, and you were close together, a whisper would be heard clearly between the two of you.
“That means, I’m always right.” You tease him and smile; Oscar returns the smile.
“I don’t mind you always being right.” Oscar said and you giggled. “You know, I had the biggest crush on you when we were in school.”
“Well, I also had the biggest crush on you.” You admit both of you blushing.
“I flet like you had no interest in me, whatsoever.” Oscar says frowning.
“You did have the biggest fan club in school, I didn’t want you thinking I was one of them.” You tell him the truth, now that you’re together, there was no shame in saying that. “But now, I’m your biggest fan.”
“I guess you are.” You don’t know when he got this close, but his face is so close to you, you could feel his breath on your skin. Oscar doesn’t hesitate to lean in and place his lips on yours. It’s not your first kiss, but he always leaves you breathless.
Red Bull invited you back to the paddock to film more content, since people loved you with Max in the first one. This time it would be a bigger production. They had you come in and get dressed in Assassin’s Creed-esk outfit. They sat up everything for the filming. You walked through the plan with the director of the video and what they had in mind.
“Can you do that?” Checo who was standing next to you with a Red bull in his hand asked.
You gave him a fake offended look. “I’ll manage.”
“No wires, right?” The director double checked, and you nodded with a confident smile.
“No wires.”
It was really simple, the scene began with you on top of the Red Bull Pit wall, they filmed you as if you’re looking around for something. Before you saw it, you flipped off the building and landed on your feet crouched down, before you ran to the fence climbed it easily. While holding the top of the fence you flipped yourself over it and climbed down, there were the two Red Bull cars waiting for you. They had a few obstacles waiting for you, that you jumped over or under, the last one was a tall almost a wall, you were on top before you flipped twice in the air and landed in a super hero pose, right in between the cars. And looked up to the camera, the cape they had clipped to your face, threw enough shadow to show the bottom half of face, and you were smirking. The add ended with you in the car drinking Red Bull, with your cape off, and driving away in the car.
You off course didn’t drive the car, but that’s the power of editing.
It took a few takes for the director to take the shots that he wanted. It had to all be done fast, before the paddock got super busy. It was early on media day, but some teams were already present, and fans were filling up.
Oscar made it so he could come early and watch you. A camera crew from F1TV was present to film some behind the scenes footage. And Oscar was caught staring at you with a smile. He was even seen taking a video of you from his spot behind the barrier they made so no one would walk into the filming space.
Later on when he was doing his media duties, he was asked about it.
“You seemed interested in the parkour ad Red Bull was filming, we got a few shots of you filming it.” The interviewer stated. Now you and Oscar started your relationship with wanting it to be private, but as the time went on, you both wanted to be there to cheer each other on, and it’s been 9 months already since you started dating. You’ve had talks about going public with it, so Oscar just took it in his hands.
“Yeah, it’s always amazing to see y/n, doing her things in real life.” Oscar knew he’d be asked more about it. He said your name so casually that it was obvious that he knew you.
“Oh, you know her?” The interviewer asked.
“I would like to think so, we’re dating.” That got the attention of everyone.
“Then if you don’t mind me asking, how did you meet, it seems a bit random. Was it when she came to Red Bull a few months ago?”
“No, we met in school.” Oscar laughed remembering how you met. “She saved me from a beating.”
“A beating? Could you elaborate?”
“Yeah, I was walking back to school late one day and I was jumped by 2 drunk guys, suddenly this person comes out of nowhere, dressed in all black, had a black hoodie, hat and face mask even. She kicked them around, a few times, threw a few punches and had them down on the ground long enough for us to escape. I didn’t know who it was, only that it was a girl, since I saw her hair, but that was it. It was later by accident that I knew it was her.”
“And is that when you started dating?” The interviewer was so intrigued by this point.
“No, we stayed friends, and the next year she moved schools, and we lost contact.” Oscar says, this is probably the most they had him talking in an interview ever. “We got back in contact when she came to the Japan Grand Prix.”
“That’s a lovely story Oscar, we’re happy for you.”
“Thank you, I’m happy too.”
“Any reason as to why, my social media is blowing up with F1 followers?” You asked Oscar when you met him for lunch that day. “And I’m being called the coolest WAG ever?”
“I may have spilled that we are dating.” Oscar said apologetically.
“Thought so.” You wait for a moment, to make him feel a little pressure, before you smile. “Now, everyone knows you’re taken.”
“Me? Didn’t you see all those men watching you today?” Oscar tried to sound nonchalant, but it was clear he was feeling a bit jealous.
“Good thing I only like you then.” Oscar took your hand in his and smiled, happy, content.
Oscar won, he won fare and square, and no one could even say anything this time. He won and you were here to see it. Better yet, you were in Parc Ferma with his team. Oscar came running to his team and they hugged and pulled him. Oscar then took off his helmet and walked towards you. You threw your hands out waiting for him to walk in. Oscar didn’t wait, he pulled you as close as he could with the barrier between you, he pulled back just enough to plant a kiss to your lips. You help his cheek and smile though it.
“I’m so proud of you, baby.” You tell him not being able to stop smiling.
“Thank you.” With another kiss he was pulled way for weighing and interviews.
You’re on the bed in Oscar’s hotel room. When you get an email from your old school, you frown and open it. reading it you smile to yourself in amusement. Oscar is in the bathroom showering.
“You won’t believe what email, I just got.” You tell him and don’t wait for him to respond. “Our school just sent me an email for a reunion, I didn’t even graduate from there, and they sent me an email.”
“Yeah, but you were at the school for years.” Oscar says and you only then notice how he has the towel wrapped low on his waist. Your phone is placed beside you, and Oscar notices your eyes, he remembers the talk you had earlier to day and smirks. He turns around acting as if he’s looking for his clothes, giving you full view of his back and shoulders.
“Oscaaar.” You whine, knowing what he’s doing.
“What?” He asks nonchalant.
“You know what.” You get off the bed and wrap your arms around him, your front flushed to his back, hands on his abdomen, you’re not even sorry when you untuck his towel and it falls to the ground. Oscar sucks in a breath and turns around.
“So are we going?” You ask, still a little breathless, your head was on his shoulder, while his arms wrapped around your waist, skin on skin.
“What?” Oscar asks confused.
“To the reunion.”
“Oh, yeah, why not.”
There was an option for people to go early a couple days and have dinner together before the big thing. Since you and Oscar had that time off you decided to go, Oscar wanted to meet his friend from school anyways.
You shared the same hotel and everything. Since you and Oscar arrived and sat together, you had no idea how no one clocked that you’re together. You both weren’t big on PDA but a person can read the room. It didn’t bother you much anyways.
A long table was sat up from all of you to sit, Oscar saved the seat next to him for his friend, but in front of him sat Saddie. You both didn’t pay her any mind, since you didn’t have friends, Oscar included you in the conversation with his friend, before a girl sat next to you. She asked you your name and that got you both talking. You weren’t friends in school, but people change, and you found that if she was like that back in school you would’ve been friends, not that she was a bad person or anything, just some people don’t mesh well together.
“So Oscar how are you?” Saddie suddenly asks, she was obnoxiously loud, gaining the attention of everyone around her, she patted her mascara caked lashes a few times.
“I’m good.” He said not knowing why she’s talking to him.
“You’re not going to ask about how I’m doing?” She pouted and rested her chin on her hand. “I did save you.”
That got a few people talking, Oscar glanced at you, and you shook your head. You don’t mind that everyone still believes she saved Oscar.
“Uh, that was so long ago.” Oscar stated not really wanting to engage with her.
“Come on Oscar, she still saved you.” One guy a few seats down said, other chimed in.
“Doesn’t matter how long ago it was.”
“Who knows where you’d be if it weren’t for her.”
It was clear that Oscar wasn’t going to say anything. He isn’t one to fall victim to peer-pressure.
“Come on guys, leave him be, he’s got so much on his mind, now that he’s a formula 1 driver and all that.” Saddie lets out a fake giggle and BLINKED again.
When everyone ate and moved a bit around, you went to the restroom. Saddie walks up to Oscar swinging her hips left and right, not that Oscar noticed. She walks in on the conversation he was having and giggles. Oscar and two guys he was talking to all looked at her a little weirded out.
“So Oscar have you been thinking about me at all?” Saddie asked and placed her hand on his bicep. “Wow, you must really work out.”
“Uh.” Oscar was clearly uncomfortable, he took a step back, making her hand fall to her side.
“You don’t have to act all shy with me, after all we have history.” Saddie said and Oscar’s eyes went wide.
“H-history? We don’t!” Oscar hoped you didn’t hear what she said and believed her, but he couldn’t see you.
“I mean about me saving you.” She laughs a very fake and ‘seductive’ laugh. “You have a dirty mind, but I don’t care, means you’re thinking about me.”
Oscar looked at the two guys wanting them to save him, they all just laughed at his predicament. Just then his phone went off and he knew instantly who it was. He picked up the phone and answered walking away from the group.
“Hello.”
“Let’s go.”
“I’m heading out.” You stayed on the line but said nothing. Oscar found you by the car, he went straight to you and pulled you in for a hug. “God, you saved me again.”
“Looked like you needed it, and I’m tired of Saddie, she’s pissing me off.” You said and Oscar kissed your cheek before opening the door for you. “What did she want now anyways?” You asked once you were both in the car and settled.
“Just bullshit, said we had history and if I think about her.” Oscar didn’t really want to tell you, but he’s honest he doesn’t like the idea of you two hiding things from each other.
“I suddenly don’t like the idea of us coming.” You tell Oscar honestly, you’re irritated and you’re protective, you saw and can still see how uncomfortable this all made Oscar.
“We don’t have to go tomorrow.” Oscar tells you and puts his hand on your knee. You think it over for a second.
“No, we should go and show them we’re together and maybe finally say the truth.” You take his hand in yours and he takes it to his lips and places a kiss on the back on your hand.
“I already told the media, it’s about time they all know it too.”
The next day you and Oscar dress to impress, not anyone really but you love dressing up, and Oscar does what you want.
“You look beautiful.” Oscar said hugging you from behind, you leaned back into him. He kisses the side of your head. You’re looking at each other in the mirror.
“And you look handsome… wait! Let’s take a picture.” You get out of his arms long enough to get your phone, you’re back in his arms and you snap a few photos before you head out for the night.
Walking into the venue you’re holding hands, there’s no mistaking your relationship now. A few people turn their heads and talk, and you know they haven’t matured at all since they left school. You and Oscar smile at each other.
You walk up to one of the tables sat aside both placing the name tags for the other. You start mingling and some ask you about your relationship and you confirm that you are dating.
Saddie came “fashionably” late, strutting in as if she’s walking on a runway. She was pulled aside by one of her friends and was told about the ‘new’ development between you and Oscar. Her face turned red; she felt betrayed.
She walked towards you two, while you were laughing at a story Oscar told you.
“Oscar and y-y/n is it?” she clearly knew your name but acted as if she’s trying to remember it, and it was on your name tag as well.
“Yes, hi, we never talked before.” You replied with a sickly-sweet tone and a smile. “But I believe you’ve been very talkative with my boyfriend.”
“So, it’s true then, you’re dating.” She glares at you, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“Yes.” Oscar said and wrapped a hand around your waist, giving you a smile that you returned. You heard her scoff, making you both look at her.
“B-but how? And since when?” It seemed like Saddie couldn’t take a hint; her face got red with agitation.
“Hm, well we started talking in school after she saved me-“
“Saved you?! I saved you! why are you always denying it?” Saddie cuts Oscar off her voice rising, more heads turned to face your group, the talk began.
“Not true.” You told her, your gaze cold and unforgiving. “I helped him, not you.”
“YOU? You, goody two shoes? You were out of campus after hours?”
“Yes, me, and you’re a liar.” Your tone didn’t waver or fill with any emotions.
“You bitch!” Your hand on Oscar is what stopped him from moving or saying anything. “I know what happened that night, how would I know that. Huh?”
“We asked ourselves the same thing.” Oscar said. “Only explanation is you knew the guys who tried to attack me.”
“No!” She answered to fast, and her eyes went to the people around, it was clear she was lying. “I-I didn’t, I don’t. Stop lying.”
As a way of distraction, she tried to lunge for you, but you just side stepped her last second, and with her very high heels she tripped and fell.
“Unless you lost the ‘training’ you had all those years ago, you’re not the one that helped Oscar.” You say and crouch down beside her, she’s slowly getting up, there’s blood coming from her mouth, looks like she cut her lip and broke a tooth. “Also don’t you date touch or talk to my boyfriend again, if you know what’s good for you.”
She tried to lunge for you, but you were already up and walking away, once she stood up and tried to walk towards you, she crumbled again clutching her ankle. No one moved to help her, all her ‘friends’ are now ashamed of her for her involvement with the group responsible for attacking Oscar.
“Let’s go.” Oscar said and took your hand in his, you left the party, not sparing anyone another glance. Oscar didn’t let go of you, you walked around the campus, went to where you used to train, before Oscar took you outside. You weren’t really paying attention, just enjoying having Oscar with you, your hand in his, and the night breeze.
Oscar then stopped you looked up at him, only to find him already staring at you.
“This is it.”
“What?” You asked confused, you had no idea what he was talking about.
“This is where we first met.” Oscar says and you look around.
“It is.” Your eyes go back to Oscar, and you smile.
“You know, I believe out lives changed that day.” Oscar admits taking both of your hands in his. “You didn’t just save me, you changed me life, I’m thankful every day that I came late, and that everything went the way it did, because then I met you, I got to know you, and now I love you.”
“Oscar.” You felt emotional. “I love you too, and I’m also very thankful and grateful that I was out that day, meeting you has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
You couldn’t take it anymore and just hugged him, your arms around his neck and his around your waist. Your bodies flushed together, you only lean your heads back to share a kiss, right where you first met, and where everything began.

"I don't think there is a single thing in the world you could do to disappoint me, Benjamin Tallmadge."
He snorted. "Well, I certainly hope you'll remember this moment when you are, in fact, disappointed in me in the future. I'm quite the over-achiever, after all."
Penelope spoke of a son following in his footsteps, and despite the leap in his chest at such a thought, it was soon soured as Benjamin drifted to thinking of war, of destruction and pain and death, and his shoulders curled inward. "I should hope not," he murmured. "If it's all the same to you, I'd rather not share my stories with our children... I fought so they could be free, so they could be happy, and I don't wish for them to know any of the pain I've endured. Not even a moment."
Penelope, thankfully, seemed quite content to continue teasing him, so Benjamin latched on to the much lighter fare of conversation. With a snort, he asked, "How can I not compliment you? That seems like a double-edged sword, and I'm not about to risk displeasing my betrothed. Unless, of course, it leads to more untoward requests."
Penelope giggled, leaning into his touch with a gentle incline of her neck. "If leaving you now is so difficult, I can't imagine how hard it will be once we are properly wed."
"We'll never leave the house," Benjamin agreed, chuckling. "And if anyone trespasses during our honeymoon, I'll be certain to greet them with a musket. I think I've earned the right to be possessive of my wife. If they wish to hold an audience with you, they can wait in line." Grazing his lips along her shoulder, he muttered, "Unfortunately for them, I am the only one granted permission to enter that coveted queue."
Penelope hummed. "Do you really think anyone would even notice if I just stayed here forever? Surely, Mama is far too enraptured in planning the wedding to notice and its not as though anyone would miss me otherwise."
Benjamin fought back a groan. "Don't go giving me any ideas... I'm serious, Pen, I'm at the point where I'd rather just kidnap you for a week, and then claim a loss of sanity." He shrugged. "We're already engaged, but that at least would ensure that you have to marry me."
Penelope followed his glance toward the clock. "I suppose I cannot delay for much longer, so this is where we must part. The weeks ahead are sure to be long and arduous."
Benjamin grimaced. "You don't know the half of it...I'm afraid men are the far weaker of the two sexes, so I'll be in the direst of straits."
Turning to face him, Penelope smoothed her palms along his chest with a pout. "Promise you won't forget about me in the time we're apart?"
"Impossible," he vowed. "I'll be thinking of you each and every waking moment, slowly being driven to madness." Dropping a kiss onto her forehead, he lowly added, "I hope it isn't too much to hope for the same?"
--
Within a week's time, Benjamin found himself in Penelope's presence again. Her mother was distracted with God only knew what -- it seemed that marriages of the ton were quite the affair -- and despite his good cheer, he kept pacing around the room.
"I'm so bloody nervous," he confessed. "If my assumptions are correct, Father will be arriving sometime today, and I just... I'm unsure of what to expect." He halted in his restless trek, turned, and then glanced toward Penelope with a low breath. "I never told you this, but I essentially ran away from home... Not because of anything I did, but rather, because I couldn't face the pain of losing my brother. So I did the cowardly thing, and I left my father all alone."
Shoulders hunkering, Benjamin looked down at his boots in shame. "I've written to Father, of course -- I'm not that cold-blooded -- but I imagine he must still be hurt. And I want him to love you so very much, but...what if I've already ruined everything before it's even had a chance to begin?"
If I'd known from the start how we would've ended up, I'm not so certain I would have ever been a gentleman.
"I find that hard to believe. Even in the throes of passion, you're a perfect gentleman." Pen quirked her lips into a sweet smile, a renewed flush creeping onto her cheeks. She knew she was lucky to have found someone like Ben, and that such a someone loved her as intensely as she loved them. Pen had nearly accepted the fact that her life would most likely be devoid of love. She might learn to love a husband, if she had been fortunate enough to find a man willing to marry her, but she had never expected to find a love match. And yet she had been proved wrong time and time again.
"Yes, actually." She teased, arching her brows in defiance. "I would like you to reenact the story of the handsome, charming foreign soldier who seduces the insipid wallflower with his smile and devilishly sharp wit. Are you familiar with that one?" Perching her hands on her hips, she tried to maintain a neutral expression but she found it hard when her body was still thrumming with electricity. "I don't think there is a single thing in the world you could do to disappoint me, Benjamin Tallmadge."
You know I love it when you give commands. Pen bit at the inside of her cheek to suppress a grin. She'd been told on multiple ocassions that she had a tendency to be too bossy. She liked to be in charge of things, especially when so much of her life seemed to be entirely out of her control. Whistledown had afforded her the luxury of controlling the narrative of scandals in the ton, but there were often times her pride spilled over.
"Is that so? I do enjoy giving commands every once in a while. I think it runs in the family. Perhaps, one day, a son of ours will follow in their father's footsteps. Though, I wouldn't mind if they decided to become little poets and authors instead."
Although she knew she would support her children in whatever endeavors they found themselves thrown into, Pen wasn't entirely eager to imagine her sons off to war. Even so, she refused to dwell on such a thing. Those were matters for the future, problems to be dealt with when they arose. For now, Pen was satisfied with living in the moment and planning for the near future instead.
"You must not give me so many compliments this soon. I'll hardly have any motivation to do better if you spoil me too much. Lucky for you, I'm a dutiful student."
Pen let out a soft giggle, reaching up to rest her hands on his arms. The idea of going a single day without him was tortuous, even though she knew it would be worth the wait. If they were to behave properly, it could be weeks until she felt his arms around her again. She was sure she would go insane in that much time, but at least she would be able to relish in the memory of him until then. The idea of a special marriage license was terribly tempting, but Pen knew that it would be near impossible to get. A lady of the ton marrying a foreigner was not likely to earn a favorable compliance by Her Majesty. Instead, she resigned herself to her fate. If nothing else, it would prove to be a good practice of patience.
"If leaving you now is so difficult, I can't imagine how hard it will be once we are properly wed." She sighed, nuzzling into his touch. Although Pen was determined to not be an overly needy or nagging wife, she had a feeling she would be following him around like a puppy for most of the honeymoon--and long after, as well. She had spent her entire life searching for a place to belong and now that she'd finally found it in Ben's arms, she wasn't in a rush to part with the feeling.
"Do you really think anyone would even notice if I just stayed here forever? Surely, Mama is far too enraptured in planning the wedding to notice and its not as though anyone would miss me otherwise." Even as she teased, Pen knew there was some truth behind her words. Her mother was enjoying the party planning aspect of the wedding and Pen didn't mind handing over the reigns since such a thing was far too overwhelming to handle. All she wanted was to hide away from the world and be with her fiancé.
"I suppose I cannot delay for much longer, so this is where we must part. The weeks ahead are sure to be long and arduous." Turning around to face him, Pen whined, lips puffed out into a pout. "Promise you won't forget about me in the time we're apart?"

"We hear there is to be a festival tonight," Viserys said, breaking the silence over dinner. The question, though innocuous enough, hung heavily in the air, sending a ripple through the room.
All eyes turned toward me and Nymor as if waiting for some grand revelation.
I glanced at my brother, our shared look speaking volumes more than words could manage—neither of us remotely entertained by the idea.
"Yes, there is," my father replied with the smoothness of a seasoned courtier, though even he couldn't mask the tension tugging at the edges of his forced smile.
"I am sure my children will be more than happy to explain it to you," he added, his gaze shifting expectantly in our direction as if we were about to jump in and rescue him from the conversation.
A smirk tugged at my lips as I pushed my plate away, raising a brow at his assumption. "Not really," I said dryly, shrugging with a careless air that only heightened the discomfort.
Nymor, ever my accomplice, snorted beside me, his failed attempt to stifle laughter only adding fuel to the simmering fire.
Across the table, Aegon barely managed to muffle his own laugh, though Alicent's sharp glare could have silenced even the boldest spirit.
She didn't appreciate my defiance, her lips pursed with disapproval as she shot me a look that demanded obedience I had no intention of giving.
But it was Helaena who, as always, cut through the tension with her innocent enthusiasm.
"A festival sounds lovely! What is it called?" she asked, leaning forward with bright-eyed curiosity that seemed almost out of place in the undercurrent of the conversation.
Alicent, ever the vigilant mother, reached out, pulling her back gently as if to shield her from engaging too much with the likes of us.
I took that moment, savouring it, and met Alicent's gaze with a sly glint in my eye.
"It's called Lustre," I said, my voice dripping with honeyed sweetness. "It takes place on the longest night of the year. The theme, fittingly, is light overcoming the darkness."
I let the words hang in the air, knowing full well how my not-so-subtle barb would needle her.
Viserys, blissfully oblivious to the subtle war waging across the table, clapped his hands together with genuine enthusiasm. "That sounds most exciting!"
My father, ever the diplomat, seized the moment to maintain appearances.
"My children would be delighted to bring the princes and princess along to celebrate tonight," he declared, casting a hopeful glance between Nymor and me as if that suggestion alone could smooth over all the prickling tension.
But Nymor, always the sharp-tongued one, wasn't about to let it slide so easily. He leaned back in his chair, raising an eyebrow, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Everyone knows that's a lie."
Aegon, unable to hold it in any longer, practically choked on his drink, his laughter barely muffled as it slipped out.
Even Helaena looked confused, her brow furrowed as she tried to make sense of the veiled remarks.
Alicent, on the other hand, was less amused. She gripped her goblet tightly, her knuckles white, her irritation palpable.
I couldn't resist.
"Nymor's right," I said, my tone light but my words deliberate. "We'll be there, but 'happy to bring them along' might be pushing it."
I shot a glance at Aegon, who was still struggling to keep his composure. "Besides, I'm not sure they'd survive a real festival with us."
Nymor leaned in with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Oh, I'm sure they'd be fine... if they don't mind a little chaos."
Viserys chuckled, the sound hearty but disconnected from the simmering battle beneath the surface.
Meanwhile, Alicent's patience, already stretched thin, snapped. Her voice, sharp as a blade, cut through the air.
"Chaos?" she repeated, her eyes narrowing dangerously. "I'm sure the royal family would prefer some decorum."
Nymor, unfazed as always, scoffed lightly. "Decorum? At Lustre?" His tone was incredulous. "Good luck finding any of that."
Alicent's glare could have turned stone to dust, but I didn't back down. If anything, her growing frustration only fueled my amusement.
"Perhaps the queen would prefer something a little less... lively?" I suggested, my smirk widening as I toyed with the thin line of respectability.
Aegon, ever the instigator, seized the moment. "Come now, Mother. A bit of fun never hurt anyone," he said, his eyes gleaming with mischief as he exchanged a glance with Nymor and me. "Besides, it's not every day we get invited to something this exciting."
"Exciting is one word for it," Nymor chimed in, his playful gaze settling on me. "Survival is another."
Viserys, ever the peacekeeper, laughed again, waving his hand dismissively. "Well, it sounds like quite the celebration. I'm sure it will be a night to remember."
I exchanged one final look with Nymor, both of us barely able to contain our amusement. The unspoken camaraderie between us was clear—this was far from over.
My father, determined as ever to hold the illusion of diplomacy, nodded curtly, his face the picture of forced calm, though even he had to know that the night ahead was bound to be anything but ordinary.
─── ✦⋅♡⋅✦ ───
Later, in the quiet intimacy of my chambers, the energy felt lighter, more relaxed, as the festival preparations took hold. The soft glow of candlelight bathed the room in a warm, flickering radiance, making the gold accents in the tapestries shimmer.
I moved about with ease, sliding delicate jewels into my hair as the weight of the evening lifted from my shoulders. Helaena sat nearby, her wide eyes following my every move, curiosity and a hint of longing radiating from her as I readied myself for the night ahead.
"What shall I wear?" she asked softly, her voice laced with eagerness.
She sounded like a little girl again, yearning to be part of something bigger, something dazzling. Her gaze was fixed on me, watching intently as I slipped the last jewel into place.
I smiled, catching her reflection in the mirror. "You can wear one of my dresses," I suggested, turning to her as I untied the ribbon of my robe, letting it fall gracefully from my shoulders.
The silvery gown I reached for shimmered like moonlight itself, its fabric cool and flowing as it slid over my skin.
Helaena bit her lip, hesitation flickering in her eyes. "I do not think my mother will like that," she whispered, her voice a fragile thread of doubt.
I let out a soft, knowing laugh, the sound rich with amusement. Alicent's constant disapproval of me was practically a given at this point.
"She doesn't have to know," I said with a playful wink, adjusting the dress as it draped over my figure.
The star sequins sewn into the sheer fabric caught the candlelight, sending a cascade of shimmering reflections across the room with each movement.
Helaena's breath caught as she gazed at me, her eyes wide with awe. "You look absolutely stunning," she breathed, her voice full of wonder.
I twirled lightly, the hem of my gown brushing against the floor like liquid stardust, every step making it gleam as though it were woven from the very essence of the night sky.
"Like the moon itself," she added, her smile growing, a hint of something brighter—perhaps envy or admiration—flickering across her features.
I laughed softly, genuinely touched. "Thank you, Helaena," I said, my voice warmer now. There was something so pure about her, so untouched by the darker undercurrents of the court.
I turned and held up a golden gown from my wardrobe, its rich fabric shimmering with regal elegance.
"Here," I said, offering it to her. "Wear this. It suits you, and no one needs to know."
My eyes twinkled with mischief as I handed her the gown, a silent promise that we were in this together, no matter what Alicent might think.
Helaena hesitated, her gaze darting to the door as if expecting her mother to barge in at any moment. But after a brief pause, she smiled—small, tentative, but real—and took the dress from my hands.
The silk whispered as it slid over her frame, the golden fabric wrapping her in warmth and splendour.
I stepped back, watching as she adjusted the folds of the gown. Her cheeks flushed with a soft blush as she smoothed the delicate material, uncertainty giving way to a shy pride.
"So pretty," I remarked with a grin, my voice teasing but full of affection.
Helaena blushed deeper, turning slightly in the mirror, admiring herself. "Like the sun itself," I added, echoing her earlier compliment.
The words made her giggle, the last of her tension melting away as she twirled in the golden gown, her smile now bright and carefree.
I stepped closer, looping my arm through hers, our bond in that moment unspoken but strong. "Come," I urged softly, giving her arm a light squeeze. "The boys will be waiting for us."
As we made our way down the palace corridors, Alaric, my ever-loyal guard, followed at a discreet distance. His dark eyes lingered on me for a moment longer than necessary, a teasing glimmer playing in their depths.
I felt his gaze like a whisper against my skin, warm and slightly provocative.
"You'll outshine the festival itself tonight," he said, his voice low and smooth, laced with a subtle edge of flirtation that made my heart skip for just a moment.
His smile was the kind that held promises of mischief, and I couldn't help but return it with a sly grin of my own.
"Careful," I teased lightly, casting him a glance over my shoulder. "You're supposed to guard me, not flatter me."
He chuckled softly, his gaze never leaving mine. "I can do both," he replied smoothly, his tone as easy as the confidence in his stance.
Helaena caught the playful exchange and shot me a look—half amused, half curious.
She had seen the way Alaric's gaze lingered, but I brushed it off with a light laugh, not wanting to delve into whatever thoughts might be swirling in her head.
We continued through the halls, winding our way through, careful to avoid any run-ins with Alicent. The last thing either of us needed was a confrontation with the queen tonight.
We slipped into the waiting carriage, the night wrapping around us like a velvet cloak, its darkness offering the perfect cover as we left the palace behind.
Relief washed over me as I settled onto the plush seat, grateful we had avoided detection for Helaena's sake.
The festival awaited us, and with it, a night of freedom—of light and shadow, chaos and revelry.
Beside me, Nymor shifted closer, the heat of his presence a comforting contrast to the cool air outside. He leaned in, his lips brushing softly against my cheek in a tender gesture.
"So beautiful," he whispered, his voice barely above a murmur, but it carried the weight of sincerity.
I smiled, allowing myself a brief moment to bask in the warmth of his gaze, the gentle affection that always lingered just beneath his teasing exterior. But the moment didn't last long.
Across from us, Aegon's reaction stole my attention.
His eyes widened as Helaena, shy but radiant, climbed into the carriage beside him. The transformation was undeniable.
Gone was the quiet, unassuming girl—now, she was gilded in gold, her dress catching the dim light, making her look ethereal, otherworldly even. Aegon, for once, was at a loss for words.
"Gods," he muttered under his breath, his usual smirk replaced by something far more genuine—astonishment.
Helaena, still unsure of her newfound allure, glanced down nervously at the golden folds of her dress, her fingers twitching as she adjusted the fabric. She looked up, eyes wide with hope.
"Do you like it?" Her voice was small, hesitant, as though she feared the answer.
Aegon's gaze never wavered from her, his usual flippancy replaced by something softer, almost reverent. "Yes," he said simply, but the single word hung in the air, heavy with admiration.
Her face lit up, a smile blooming slowly across her lips as she turned to me, eyes shining with gratitude.
No words were needed between us; her expression said everything—a silent thank you, not just for the dress, but for the confidence it gave her.
My gaze drifted then, as though pulled by a magnetic force, to Aemond.
He had been watching me from the moment I stepped into the carriage. His singular eye, sharp and focused, followed my every move with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine.
His stare was unwavering, piercing through the darkness that separated us, his face betraying little, yet his attention spoke volumes.
I felt the familiar flutter in my chest—unbidden, but undeniable.
He had a way of looking at me that always made me feel as though I were the only one in the room, as though the entire world had fallen away, leaving just the two of us.
But I refused to be swept away by the moment. Keeping my composure, I offered him a small, controlled smile, a silent acknowledgement of his gaze.
His lips curled ever so slightly in response, his usually cool demeanour softening, if only for a fleeting moment.
There was something almost vulnerable in his expression, a crack in the icy exterior he always wore so well.
Still, I couldn't linger in that feeling. Not tonight. I turned my attention back to Nymor, seeking the comfort of his easy banter, the lightness that always seemed to come naturally between us.
"We're starting with drinks," I announced, my voice bright with excitement as I leaned into him slightly. "And then the dancing, of course."
Nymor's lips quirked into a knowing smirk, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Ah, the dancing. I hope you're ready for the chaos."
I laughed, the sound bubbling up from deep within me, infectious and free. "Always."
The carriage rolled forward, the rhythmic clatter of wheels over cobblestones a steady reminder that we were moving closer to the heart of the night's festivities.
The unspoken connections between us all—tangled, complex, and ever-shifting—only added to the tension.
Aegon sat back, his gaze still flitting over Helaena in disbelief, while she, now more at ease, giggled softly to herself.
Aemond remained quiet, his eye still fixed on me, though now he wore a faint, almost imperceptible smile.
And Nymor, ever the rogue, was already plotting our inevitable mischief for the night.
Outside, the darkened streets blurred past us, the faint glow of festival lights growing brighter with every passing moment. Soon, the quiet hum of the city would give way to the sounds of revelry—the laughter, the music, the chaos of Lustre.
Tonight would be a night to remember, for better or for worse.
The carriage slowed to a stop just a street away from the festival, its wheels creaking to a halt as if acknowledging the excitement that pulsed through the air.
This was our tradition—Nymor and I slipping away before the crowds could spot us, savouring those few moments of quiet before diving headfirst into the chaos.
As the door swung open, Nymor stepped out first, turning back to offer me his hand, his eyes gleaming with mischief.
I accepted with a grin, stepping down into the cool night air.
Together, we stood for a moment, taking in the sight of the festival before us. Though it happened every year, it never failed to enchant.
The streets, strung with golden lights, flickered like stars caught in mid-air, while colourful banners swayed in the breeze.
Music spilt into every corner, the sound of laughter and song mingling in a harmonious hum that filled the night.
"It's like magic," I whispered, though the words barely did it justice.
Nymor nodded, his gaze warm as he took in the scene. "It's more beautiful every year," he said, but his eyes flicked back to me, his meaning clear.
I smirked, but before I could respond, the rest of the Targaryens joined us. As Aegon stepped out, he froze, his eyes wide with awe at the vibrant display before him.
"Gods," he muttered, momentarily dumbfounded. Even Helaena, who had been so shy earlier, seemed to bloom in the festive atmosphere.
My attention shifted to Aemond. He hadn't said a word since we arrived, but his eye hadn't left me.
There was something unreadable in his stare—an intensity that made my heart skip a beat, though I wouldn't let him see that.
Instead, I met his gaze head-on, letting a slow, teasing smile spread across my lips. I knew how to play this game, and I played it well.
"Hurry up!" I called back, breaking the spell as I grabbed Nymor's hand and pulled him toward the square, eager to lose ourselves in the sea of revelry.
My laughter echoed through the air as we darted past dancers, vendors, and brightly coloured stalls, my pulse quickening with the thrill of it all.
We skidded to a stop in front of a drinks stall, the smell of spiced fruit and honey filling the air.
"Five, please!" I called to the vendor, flashing him a cheeky grin.
Nymor fished out a few coins, handing them over as the vendor poured five drinks into small cups. The liquid shimmered in the lantern light, pink and inviting.
Aegon eyed his cup suspiciously, lifting it to his nose with a raised eyebrow. "Is this wine?" he asked, dubious.
I laughed, taking a long sip from my own cup before answering. "No, but it's better." The sweetness of the drink coated my tongue, refreshing and potent.
"Look, we'll drink first if you're scared." I winked, and without waiting, I downed the rest of mine in one gulp, the heat of the alcohol spreading through me like fire.
Nymor followed suit, grinning as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "See? No tricks."
Aemond still hesitated, his eye narrowing slightly as he glanced between the cup and me. I rolled my eyes, stepping closer to him until we were nearly nose to nose.
"You really don't trust me?" I teased, my voice low and playful as I lifted his cup to his lips. "Drink."
For a second, Aemond's expression didn't change, but the challenge in my eyes must have gotten to him, because he relented, taking a slow sip.
His face softened, a reluctant smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "It's... good."
"Told you," I smirked, satisfied as I turned to Helaena, who was already sipping hers, a look of pure delight on her face.
"Come!" I said impulsively, grabbing her arm and pulling her toward the square, where the crowd was already lost in the rhythm of the music. "Let's dance!"
Helaena laughed, her hesitation melting away as she twirled with me beneath the glow of lanterns.
The music was infectious, the beat thrumming in my veins as I let go of everything—my worries, the royal eyes watching me, the tension that sometimes clung to the edges of my life.
All that mattered now was the thrill of the festival, the joy bubbling up from within me as I laughed and spun with reckless abandon.
From the sidelines, Aegon chuckled, his gaze flicking to Nymor. "Is she always like this during festivals?"
Nymor grinned, leaning back against a post as he watched me with obvious amusement. "Lustre brings out her best. Enjoy it while it lasts—she's probably being nicer to you than she ever will."
Aegon barked a laugh, but his attention quickly wandered to a group of dancers nearby, while Nymor was soon swept into a conversation with a woman who had approached him.
Aemond, though, didn't move. His eye followed my every step, every laugh as if he couldn't tear himself away.
I could feel him watching me, even as I twirled and dipped with Helaena, my joy infectious.
Aegon, noticing Aemond's stare, smirked as he clapped him on the back. "Throw a festival every now and then, brother, and you might keep your bride this happy."
His tone was teasing, but Aemond wasn't amused. His gaze remained fixed on me, the intensity in his expression unmistakable.
I could feel the weight of it, even from across the square. Our eyes met, and for a heartbeat, everything else faded away.
The crowd, the music, the lights—all of it melted into the background. It was just us.
I gave him a small, knowing smile, one that promised much and revealed little, and he returned it, the tension in his face softening ever so slightly.
But the moment passed, and I was pulled back into the dance, the swirl of the festival sweeping me away.
Yet even as I laughed and spun beneath the glow of the festival lights, I could feel Aemond's gaze lingering, a silent promise that this night—this feeling—was only the beginning.

DoubleNoot AU Drabble - A New Day
Welcome back to another installment! this time we see the new family getting used to their new family member and taking small steps to get comfortable int heir new normal.
Last Time on DoubleNoot Adventures! Nightmare took a moment to think about what is going on and how he feels about it. Only for him and Killer to have a conversation as the others slept before slowly waking up.
*-------------------------*
Corrupt is happy to see Nightmare comfortable in his tendril. Safe and sound and by the looks of it he seems well-rested.
Which makes Corrupt happy as it means he truly did feel safe enough to let himself rest.
Killer grins at him "Morning Moonlight."
Corrupt notices two of his mates already awake and chuckles "Morning you two." he makes sure to nuzzle both before looking at them and Nightmare at the same time. "How did you all sleep?"
Nightmare mutters a soft reply that he slept okay while Killer and Dust tell him they slept great as always.
Corrupt smiles as Horror gives asleepy mutter. Dust is quicker though as he leans over and kisses him as he sends a spark of magic to Horror.
Horror is immediantly more awake and mutters a soft thank you as Dust just shrugs.
Nightmare looks at Corrupt shocked as Corrupt looks at Horror "Horror? Are you okay wiht me explaining things to Nightmare?"
Horror blinks and looks over before nodding "Of course." a bit softer "Sorry for worrying you there. I am alright." with that said he nuzzles Dust again before giving both Killer and Corrupt their own nuzzles. "I was thinking eggs."
Killer looks excited "Oh i can help wtiht eh chickens!" and he gets out of bed together with Horror and the two walk off.
Ngihtmare looks at him anxiously "What is... is he okay? was he sick?" he rubs his hands together. Corrupt makes sure to make his tentacle into his hold and Nightmare starts kneading that instead.
Corrupt makes sure to keep his voice a bit down. Bot for Nightmare but also for Cross. Seeing as he is still asleep Corrupt thinks he overdid it the day before.
Corrupt starts to explain softly "Horror has a few physical conditions that we need to keep an eye on. We have this under control so you do not have to worry about it. The foremost one is his injury on his skull. It can cause him migraines and will always be sensitive." Not to forget that Horror is more sensitive to light. He can however see through camouflage which is helpful.
"Further his soul has gone through an starvation. If we are unable to take energy from food a monsters body will start going into survival modes. Which is when they won't make any magic or mana and store any magic left. This stored magic will be reused over and over again to make the monster able to move."
Ngihtmare frowns as he keeps looking at him. Waiting.
Corrupt sighs sadly "It is why his skull never healed. His body did not have the energy or magic available to heal. And the longer the starvation lasts the more consequences there are once a monster exists these survival modes."
Corrupt smiles "After we made him able to eat more and rest his body slowly started to recover and go out of survival mode. Sadly we noticed quickly he was unable to use magic aside from very minimal things. Furthermore we found out his body can no longer efficiently gain magic and mana from food and energy. Leaving him with the ened to eat very regularly to make sure his body has what it needs."
Mostly it is to make sure that his body doesn't get stressed and starts reusing the same magic again which can cause even more complications now that his body isn't saving energy and magic.
Nightmare frowns as he glances at the door "And a long ngiht is rough?"
Dust shrugs as he mutters "Not always. But some mornings his magic is a bit slower with waking up and becoming active. It is quicker and healthier for him to give him a little boost over letting his magic stress itself out."
Nightmare frowns as he gives a slow nod "and the.... kiss was giving this magic?"
Corrupt nods "It was. It doesn't need to be a kiss however. that is just Dust's personal preference."
Dust shoots him an unamused look but doesn't go against it. Probably because he doesn't want to explain he and Hroror found out on a mission that Horror can also get these moments and at the time they hadn't known a simple spark could be used.
Instead Dust had to quickly eat rations to partly transform it intt magic before transferring it to Horror.
This was well before they all started dating. Neither of them had been too excited about having to explain this situation in their reports.
Nightmare gives a slow nod "Oh.... okay... and he is okay?"
Dust nods "Horror is fine. He is though." he glances to the side.
Corrupt follows it and chuckles as he sees Cross look up confused as he yawns. Corrupt chuckles and mutters a soft "good morning" before giving his skulla kiss.
Cross stares confused before shooting upright "It is already morning?! I need to go train!"
Dust yawns lazily "You will miss breakfast if you do that now."
Cross looks annoyed at Dust "Why didn't you wake me?!"
Dust looks bored at him "Because you were once again hiding the fact you were exhausted. It was time for a long nap for you. after breakfast we can work out together."
Cross grumbles but doesn't go against it.
Nightmare is watching the interaction curiously as Corrupt just holds him clsoe in a little bundle of tentacles.
Corrupt hums "Dust is right. We will miss breakfast which will saddens Horror. After breakfast we can look through what you and Killer collected for Ngihtmare?" he offers it.
Cross immediantly looks more excited about that idea nad easily agrees as he gets up. Dust sighs but follows thier mate.
Leaving Nightmare nad Corrupt alone. Corrupt looks at the young skeleton "How are you feeling?"
Nigtmare seems to think for a moment before answering "I am... okay? I feel rested but... stuff aches?" he traces some of his bones through the soft sleeping shirt "Even when i know the wounds are gone it still hurts..."
Corrupt frowns and studies the bones Nightmare offers up for inspection. Corrupt gentle touches and presses against the bones but there are no flinches or any signs of pain.
There isn't... until Nightmare moves his own arm and his face pitches.
Corrupt frowns "We will need to look into that... first some food. Maybe your body jsut eneds more energy... Then we can ask Cross nad Dust."
Ngihtmare lets Corrupt pick him up and carry him out "Why them?"
Corrutp speaks as he brings them downstairs to the breakfast nook "Cross is out main healer. He has healing magic you see. Dust however knows the much about it even if his magic can't heal. Before Cross joined us he was the one who took care of us if we got hurt."
Ngihtmare blinks "oh... oh! is that why Dust knew what to do to help Horror at that mission?"
Corrupt nods and smiles "indeed. It is why i paired them up on missions. Both are very strong and compliment each others prefered fighting style in case of emergencies. But in the end Horror's skull could cause complications and Dust would be the best to send with him just in case." and it proved to be the correct choice as Dust managed to save Horror's life because of this knowledge.
They get to the breakfast nook and see the table already set and the others all seated.
Corrupt takes his seat and after a moment decides to just keep Nightmare in his left and arms. It is more stable for him and Corrupt just wants to be sure he is stable with his bdoy being sore.
His mates shoot him amused looks but don't mention anything.
horror serves the food and Corrupt is happy to note that Horror already seemed to have eaten a bit by the sight of the dirty plate. Corrupt shoots hima look but Horror waves him off. Clearly his larger mate feels fine.
Corrupt checks the food and spots eggs and omeletts all laid out for them. They all have glasses of milk set before them and fresh orange juice.
Corrupt thinks for a moment before figuring it out. Eggs for proteins but not too intense of a taste and an easy place to start with. ommelettes for the same reason but with some extra greens and vegetables in them. Milk to help boost their calcium and orange juice for much needed vitamins.
Corrupt smiles and shoots Horror a thankful look but Horror jsut give s gentle smile and a shake of his skull as he fills up his plate again.
Corrupt fills up his and Ngihtmare's shared plate and he starts helping and encouraging Ngihtmare to taste the food. His face lights up at the taste of the eggs and Corrupt smiles as Nightmare focusses on the different tastes and flavours.
Breakfast is spend talking about the plans for the day and if they need to do any trips to get anything. Horror mentions that they will be fine for food for a few weeks longer as their hens and gardens are growing beautifully. Ngihtmare feels intrigued about these but doesn't ask any questions.
Horror is about to clean up but Corrupt stops him "Let me."
Horror looks unsure as he sends him a look "You are busy."
Corrupt smiles "I will manage. You ened to rest. Go to the couch." the others will get the bags with Ngihtmare's stuff unpacked as Corrupt cleans. Horror doesn't deny it or challange it as he makes his way to the living room.
Nightmare frowns as he looks around "I... i don't think i can help... sorry."
Corrupt smiles at him "You don't need to." as he holds Nightmare in his arms as his tendrils clean everything around them. Moving things around and putting them in the dishwasher.
Ngihtmare stares in awe and Corrupt has to at least stay slightly focussed as he moves things around.
He does take the time to transfer Ngihtmare to his tentacles as he takes the time to wipe any surface down with his actual hands. Making sure he got every spot.
With the kitchen and breakfast nook clean he moves himself and nightmare to the living room.
The bags are paid out unto the table and Corrupt smiles. There is a pile of clothes and other necessaries. Further there are a few piles with books. He can spot some puzzles and drawing supplies.
Nightmare is shocked as he stares and can't seem to take everything in fast enough.
Corrupt gets them comfortable adn Killer takes the lead easily as he starts talking about what they found and which things the broguth back.
Almost all the things they brought back fits Ngihtmare just fine. the few exceptions are a bit too big and Corrupt hopes nightmare will grow into it nicely.
They make sure to test if the jacket fits him all right. Msotly because if they want to take him outside they want to be sure he is warm and comfy.
Nightmare stares in awe at the many books and is quick to hug the fiction books near. The cover shows a cat and something about warriors. Corrupt just knows tha tKiller picked it out.
They continue lookign through it all and Nightmare is overwhelmed. WHcih is why corrupt pauses the moment and check in on him "Are you okay? we can take a break if you want... it is a lot of new information."
Corss nad Killer look slightly embarrassed as they mentioned they got excited getting stuff for Nightmare.
Nightmare looks so unsure as he rubs his hands together "You didn't... need to... i didn't mean... i don't want to be... difficult... or a burden... or..." he looks down as he shakes lightly.
Corrupt remembers of course. the villagers always taking the few things Nightmar ehad. destroying his things and then telling dream that nightmare just lost it and look aren't they nice for replacing it?
Corrupt picks him up and holds him close "These are yours. you deserve to having nice things and to be able to enjoy them. we can make a corner and get a cabinet to keep your new things safe and in a spot where you can easily get them."
Ngihtmare rubs his sockets. Feeling embarrassed as he nods. Corrupt makes sure to keep him close as they all encourage him to pick a few things he wants to keep with him to play and relax with. Nightmare ends up jsut picking one of the books. All the othr stuff they makes sure is safely on the coffee table as they promise they will take the time together to look for a cabinet he likes and a spot he likes his stuff.
The clotehs they put in a drawer in Corrupt's room for now. Until a bit more time has passed and Nightmare feels safer. Then they can look into getting him his own room.
For now?
They move towards the training room togehter. Killer, Dust and Cross wish to work out and Corrupt likes to watch them.
And maybe after seeing them move Nightmare will feel a bit saver and a bit mroe protected.

Whatever you've got planned for Mila/Remy and Drew/Finn will be wonderful, but I have to admit I kind of hope Mila does get pregnant - the opportunities for Remy as caretaker are just so good, lol. And I feel like Drew and Finn are actually ready to step up to be parents themselves. But like I said, whatever you decide is great.
In the meantime, Mila has to catch Jules' bug and then pass it on to Remy, right? And Julian takes care of them both? Hmm?
AH I'm so sorry it took me so long to get around to this. But you are SO right, Mila totally has to catch Jules' bug (which happened here for anyone who missed it) and don't worry Remy isn't going to make it out unscathed he's going to suffer soon. However, for now it's Mila's turn.
I hope you enjoy!
~~~
“Feeling okay?” Remy asked, looking at Mila over his glasses.
She was coming down the stairs, her auburn hair damp and hanging in loose waves over her shoulders. What really caught his attention was the way her arms were wrapped around herself and the uncomfortable look on her face
“My stomach is upset.” Mila shrugged, then collapsed onto the couch and laid her head on Remy’s shoulder, looking at the iPad on his lap, “What are you working on?”
“Just putting together some projections for a meeting later this week. Boring stuff.”
“Don’t you ever stop working, it’s 7pm on a Saturday. You should be paying attention to me and your kids.” She complained.
“By kids you mean the one who’s still sleeping off a stomach bug from hell and the other that can’t be bothered with me because she’s distracted by some new gadget my mom got her?” Remy teased, “I work when I can find the time, and right at this moment, my time is for you.” He closed his iPad case and set it on the coffee table before wrapping his arms around Mila. “You’re warm.” Remy pushed her hair away from her face.
“I am? That’s great, I’ve probably caught what Jules is recovering from.” Mila nuzzled in closer to his side and sighed, “I really don’t feel well.”
“I know, Love. Let me get you something for that fever.”
Mila took the pills with no complaints and promptly passed out on the couch while Remy cleaned up dinner and got Leah bathed and settled for bed. After all of his dad duties he returned to his boyfriend duties and sat on the edge of the couch in front of Mila, gently shaking her awake.
She scrunched up her face and groaned, clearly not happy with having been woken up.
“C’mon, M. Let’s head up to bed.” He said quietly, tucking her hair behind her ear. He frowned, noticing the heat still radiating off her skin.
“I feel sick,” she whined.
“Nauseous sick or fever and achy sick?”
“Yes.” she sighed, pressing the heels of her hands into her eyes.
Mila slowly sat up and pressed the back of her hand to her mouth muffling a small burp. Remy looked at her with raised eyebrows.
“I’m gonna throw up.”
“Now?”
She shook her head, “I’ll make it upstairs.” She hiccupped, then grimaced and swallowed hard.
“Okay, c’mon. I actually rather like this carpet down here.”
Remy walked behind her upstairs, his hand hovering by the small of her back as she made her way to their bedroom.
He peeked in on Jules and Leah to make sure they were both sleeping before trailing Mila into the room where he found her hovering over the toilet in their en-suite.
“How are we doing, Lovely?” Remy asked gently, filling a glass with water and sitting it on the edge of the sink before grabbing a claw clip out of the vanity drawer.
Mila shook her head, hiccupping. A small burp came up and she gagged a trail of spit hanging from her lips into the water.
“I don’t feel good.” She stated the obvious.
“I know.” He cooed, gathering all her hair and twisting it up into the clip. Remy settled on the edge of the tub rubbing small circles across her shoulders.
It didn’t take long for her spine to curl and dinner to make a reappearance in the bowl.
She coughed and sputtered, small burps wracking her until a larger wave came up quickly followed by another.
“You’re alright, M. Get it all up.” Remy continued rubbing her back.
Strands of her hair were coming out of the claw clip and he pushed them out of her face, his hand holding her forehead.
“Ughhh, fuck.” Mila groaned, sniffling. She reached up and flushed the toilet, sitting back.
“Want some water?” Remy asked quietly.
She nodded, “Please?”
When she drinks some water and keeps it down for a little while they move to bed, Remy sitting the trashcan near her side of the bed just in case.
“I’m a big girl, I can make it to the bathroom.” She mumbled tiredly.
“I know, I know. It’s just in case, M.” He crawled into bed and she quickly curled up next to him, nestling her head in his neck.
Remy was exhausted, holding Mila’s hair back as she puked into the trashcan for the second time that night. He could only imagine how tired she was. She had run out of energy to run back and forth to the bathroom after the third trip.
Mila hiccupped and whined, water and bile trickling into the bin hugged to her chest.
“This is hell.” She complained, “Can you hand me some water?”
Remy reached around her and grabbed the water bottle off of the nightstand, opening it before handing it to her. She took a couple sips before burping over the trashcan.
“You’re doing great, Love. You’re a trooper.”
“If I keep puking I’m going to scream”
“As long as you keep drinking water I think we can avoid a trip to the doctor. I just don’t want you getting as dehydrated as Jules… your fever seems to be sitting around 100.3.”
Mila took a couple more sips of water and hovered over the bin for a couple more minutes before she sat it on the floor and laid back down with a sigh.
“I’m going to apologize ahead of time for when you catch this.” She said, staring at the ceiling.
“I’ll live, just like you will. Nothing could keep me from holding back your hair while you’re puking your pretty little guts up.”
“Oh my god, shut up.” Mila rolled over, laying her head on Remy’s chest.
“I’m serious.” He ran his fingers up and down her arm, “nothing in the world could keep me from staying up all night taking care of my vomiting girlfriend.”
“You’re ridiculous… I love you.”
“I love you too.” Remy pressed a kiss into her hair, “Get some rest, Love.”
Nancy played with the hem of the shirt she borrowed from your old clothes. She was happy you had somewhat forgiven her and you could start to be friends now. "What's this song?" Nancy asked, turning up the radio. You looked at her suspiciously, "You like Iron Maiden?" you asked, glancing at the road.
Nancy shrugged, "I like this one?" she giggled.
You chuckled, "It's Run to the Hills. I-I can give you the tape if you want?" you offered, nervously tapping the steering wheel. You sighed, parking your car in the school parking lot.
"You sure you're alright being seen with me? I mean, what if people laugh?" you asked nervously. Nancy grabbed your hand with a smile, "It's okay. We're friends now. And, hey, you get a free pass to throw whatever kind of mustard...sauce mixture you want at me as paycheck," she giggled.
You smirked and rolled your eyes, clambering out of the car and stretching your ankles in your heavy shoes. Nancy waited for you to walk inside, and you walked into school together, ignoring all the stares. You were walking through the halls, talking to Nancy Wheeler of all people with a smile. You separated with a mutual "see ya!" and you sat through your first classes with a yawn.
You stomped through the halls, trying to ignore Eddie inviting you to his band's next gig and sat next to Jonathan like you did every day. "Bologna again?" he smiled, giving you his sandwich and taking yours.
You huffed and nodded, "She wants me to starve," you grumbled.
Jonathan chuckled, "Maybe she just wants to sneak some protein in your diet," he said. You rolled your eyes, mumbling "whatever" when Mr. Kaminsky waddled into the classroom. After the same excruciatingly boring class the two wandered through the halls to the yearbook red room. You munched on your lunch, Jonathan's hurry to develop the pictures going unnoticed by you.
Nicole Anderson walked into the room, greeting Jonathan with a smile. "Oh, hey..." he mumbled, snatching his pictures and saying a hurried goodbye to you. You stared at the door with a weird look but shrugged and kept eating anyway. Nicole shuffled around the room, trying to develop her own photos.
"Um, y/n?" she said, scratching her nose. You glared up at the redhead, trying to show you didn't want to be disturbed.
"D-did you see what he was doing?" Nicole asked nervously. You shrugged, shaking your head. "Why?" you asked, seeing the uneasy look on the girl's face. Nicole sighed, biting her lip and dropping a photo into the tub of developer.
"They were...weird. Like, they didn't know he was there weird. It looked like Steve Harrington's house. I know he had a party last night, so..." the girl said, swishing the liquid and watching the picture come through.
You furrowed your eyebrows, "I dunno. I never really pay attention to what he's putting up. I don't think he cares enough about Steve to do that though," you said, biting into your snack cake. Nicole frowned, hanging up her photos.
"Debbie cake?" you offered, holding the sponge cake out for the girl. Nicole smiled, taking the snack cake from you. "Well, if you really think it's them and you really think he was taking stalker pictures, I think we should tell them. I-I could tell Steve next period? We're paired up for a project," you shrugged, tossing your lunch bag as the bell rang.
Nicole nodded, gathering her things. "You're not how I though you were..." Nicole said, giving you a crooked smile. "I never am," you said, returning it with a tight-lipped smile of your own and wandered off to Mrs. Click's class. Steve was already there, sitting in his new seat next to your empty chair.
"Hi," you muttered, your voice barely audible over the chatter of the classroom. "Hey! Um, hey, listen...a-about the other day and...and the party. I feel like shit and, I don't know, it just wasn't cool..." Steve stuttered, running a hand through his hair.
You nodded and shrugged, "S'whatever. I'm used to it by now," you mumbled, pulling out your notebook. Steve pursed his lips and sighed, grabbing his notes and setting them out on the table. You both worked quietly on their parts of the project until you decided to speak up.
"Uh, Steve?" you said nervously. He hummed, looking up at you. "I need to tell you something..." you mumbled, picking at your thumb. "What's up?" he asked, furrowing his brows.
You stuttered your way through your explanation, fumbling with your fingers as you unintentionally threw Jonathan under the bus. He had a right to know. They were pictures of him and his friends in his own backyard. Even if you hated his friends, you had to admit it was pretty strange.
"And you didn't know about this?" Steve asked, running a hand through his hair. You shook your head frantically. "No! I didn't even know he was out last night! I was home all night," you exclaimed. Steve nodded with a sigh of relief. "I just needed to make sure. I know he's your friend or whatever..." he trailed off, "Thank you for telling me. How about we all talk to him together?" he offered.
You shrugged, tapping your pencil. Steve moved his desk closer to yours and leaned close, "Please?" he pleaded. You sighed, narrowing your eyes at the boy. "Fine..." you grumbled, snapping your pencil in half as the bell rang. You grabbed your stuff and reluctantly followed Steve outside, showing him to Jonathan's car. "I-it's this one..." you mumbled. Tommy, Carol, and Nicole stalked up the hill as Steve pushed himself up on the trunk. He patted the space beside him, motioning for you to sit beside him. You dropped your bag on the concrete and pulled yourself up onto the car, crossing your legs and dropping your head into your hands.
You felt weird. Sitting with Steve Harrington and his friends like they'd never done anything wrong. Like you were all of a sudden comfortable with each other.
Tommy and Carol ignored you, save for a simple nod of acknowledgement from the boy and Nicole tapped her foot impatiently. She was supposed to be cheering at the game, so you guessed she was anxious to get her uniform on and get ready.
Steve snuck small glances at you beside him, noticing little details he never saw before on you. How dark the circles under your eyes were, the fact your hair was actually brown instead of black like he thought, your chipped nail polish and hands...All distracted him from Jonathan walking up the hill to his car.
"Hey, man..." Steve greeted, hopping off the trunk. You struggled to get back on solid ground behind him, stumbling a bit and grabbing Steve's arm so you didn't face plant onto the ground. "Nicole and y/n were, uh, telling us about your work!" Steve said.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about," Jonathan mumbled, trying to push through them but Tommy stole his bag before he could get far. The dodgy looks and the way he was panicking over his bag made him seem way more guilty. "Oh, wow, he is totally trembling. He must really have something to hide," Steve said, digging in Jonathan's bag for the photos. They were conveniently on top of everything, and it was just as Nicole said. Pictures of Steve, Nancy, Tommy, and Carol in Steve's backyard swimming and laughing together. Some more shots of the house through the window showed Nancy and Steve talking and one of Nancy taking her shirt off.
"Jonathan..." you whispered, grabbing for a couple of the photos.
"I was looking for my brother..." Jonathan tried, every vein in his body was on fire with guilt and dread. "No, this is called stalking!" Steve said, rolling up his stack of pictures. You handed your stack to Tommy standing next to you and put a hand to your temple in complete stress. You pulled your coat around you tighter and buried your nose in your shoulder.
You didn't know what to think now. You knew Jonathan was a good guy and he would never do anything like this maliciously, but to take these kinds of pictures was way out of line. Blame it on a moment of weakness, you guessed.
"What's going on?" Nancy asked, clutching the strap of her bag as she approached.
"There's the starring lady," Tommy snickered, grinning at the girl.
Nancy furrowed her eyebrows, "What?" she asked, "This creep was spying on us last night...he was probably gonna save this one for later," Carol replied. She passed the topless photo to Nancy, her eyes widening when she fully processed that it was indeed her in the picture. You walked over, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I had no idea...if I knew he was there..." you trailed off, taking the picture from her.
Steve took it and ripped it up along with the rest of the photos. "So...we just have to take away his toy," Steve said, tossing the ripped-up pieces in Jonathan's face.
"No. Please, not the camera!" Jonathan pleaded, trying to grab his things when Tommy stopped him. You shook your head, "Steve, c'mon...I-I don't think-," he interrupted you with a 'wait' finger. "It's okay," Steve said, holding out the camera for him, "Here you go."
Jonathan visibly deflated in relief until Steve let the camera slip from his fingers and smash onto the pavement. It hissed pitifully, earning a wince from you and Nancy. Tommy giggled dumbly, wrapping an arm around Carol as she tossed the rest of the photos at the boy scrambling for the pieces of his camera. You watched them go, turning back to look at your friend. You wanted to say something. Wanted to tell him how stupid it was to do such a thing.
"Hey, Nance! C'mon!" Steve called. Nancy hurriedly picked up the pieces of a picture of Barb and met her boyfriend at the bottom of the hill. "Y/n!" you whirled around; confusion painted all over you. "You coming?" Steve asked, his arm around Nancy.
You stuttered, looking from Jonathan to Nancy and Steve. "Come on, loser! Are you really going to blow your chance?!" Carol rolled her eyes. You pursed your lips and bowed your head. I'm the worst. You thought as you sulked over to the group who was waiting for you. Nancy took your hand and smiled softly.
You followed them inside to the hallway outside the gym, still knowing better than to look Tommy or Carol in the eye. "Lucky you weren't there, huh, weirdo?" Tommy said, nudging you. "Who knows what he would've taken of you?" he added. You shook your head, still trying to defend your friend in your mind. "He probably wouldn't..." you said, a weak smile crossing your lips as you ran to catch up to Nancy.
You decided it was best to stay next to her, actively ignoring Carol's story about how she got detention for mouthing off to Mr. Mundy. Nancy poked your arm and whispered to you slowly. "Can you drive me somewhere?" she asked. You nodded discreetly, digging in your bag for your keys. "Whoa, where you going?" Steve asked as you and Nancy walked away. "Uh- I-I totally forgot. Um..." Nancy trailed off.
"Sleepover. At my place. She left her clothes and stuff at mine last night anyways and we're supposed to get dinner, so..." you filled in, jingling your keys. Steve grabbed his jacket as he stood, scrambling to get you to stay. "The game's about to start!" he tried, "I'm sorry," Nancy sighed, pulling you along with her.
Nancy threw her bag in the car, buckling in with a huff. "Where to?" you asked, starting the car. "Steve's. I think something happened to Barb."
Kitchen/Dining Room – Because, as stated previously, the kitchen is now bigger! One of the big things I wanted to do in here was to add in the new appliances from Home Chef Hustle – the stand mixer, the waffle maker, and the pizza oven – and that required me to put in more counter space to make sure Alice still had a free counter to cook on. Which I did by making a line of island counters at the edge of where the “kitchen” floor meets the “dining room” floor. However, doing that meant that I couldn’t fit their original dining table in there anymore, and my searches for a smaller one didn’t really yield anything I liked. So I made the room slightly bigger (shrinking the mudroom and the hallway slightly) to accommodate the table. Worth it, though – I really like the new island counters with their appliances, and since they’re island counters, I was able to put some decorations around said appliances, like a kitchen scale (though not the HCH one, one of my CC ones from "Cottage Garden Stuff" by @plumbobteasociety), a cookbook on a stand, and Gino the MySim trophy (as he’s holding a pizza, I figured he should be near the pizza oven). I also upgraded the kitchen sink, added some hanging pots and pans from the ceiling, and replaced the coffee machine (which was worth $0 for some reason, but hell, I’m upgrading to more expensive stuff for everybody for a REASON, the gang is NOT hurting for money) with a tea maker, since that seemed more appropriate for the trio. (Or, at least, for Victor and Alice – Smiler is probably more of a coffee person, but as this version is a vampire and can’t drink any of it, moot point in this save!)
Back Patio – Simple change here – upgraded the chairs around the back table to slightly nicer, more comfortable ones. Which fortunately came in the same fun patterns as the previous set. :D Had to make sure they matched the umbrella!
Victor and Alice’s Bedroom – Going back upstairs, I replaced their old computer with the second Immersive Bend computer Smiler won at GeekCon and recolored it slightly, then got them a nicer officer chair to go with it. I originally also put one of the posters Victor found on a recent trip to San MyShuno up on the wall beside the desk...but then, while deciding if I really wanted to delete one of the medium-sized pictures of the gang posing in their swimwear on their trio honeymoon or not, I realized that “hey, I don’t have any pictures of that honeymoon in their room! Smiler has one – they should too!” So I stuck said picture up on the wall by their desk, moving the poster that had been there into Smiler’s room. :D So that worked out for everybody!
Both Upstairs Bathrooms – I upgraded the toilets to the really nice slate ones from Seasons in appropriate color patterns, then upgraded the sinks to better versions, changed out Victor and Alice’s shower for the nicest one, changed out Smiler’s bathtub for the nicest one, and upgraded the towel racks to the nicest ones. Basically, almost everything in both bathrooms is a lot nicer than it was. XD
Second Floor Hallway – The changes here were mostly about rearranging the collections on the walls – specifically, I put all the littler metals/minerals and the trio of elements Alice had collected on the hanging shelf that previously held the egg collection and put that by the door, then put all the bigger metal samples next to it on their shelf (recoloring both shelves to look similar and show off the samples to best effect). The other shelf that was previously holding the little metals/minerals went into the household inventory in case I need it later. I also put the other medium-sized picture of the trio on their honeymoon, along with one other picture of them posing outside their store, on the little notch outside Smiler’s room, as I thought they looked nice there over the pet bed. :)
Séance Room – I moved the knitting basket (and decorative yarn ball Kelly knocked out of it) and the big-ass rabbit plush they got in the mail (which I recolored to be fun polka dots) into the attic rec room, and ditched the rocking chair in the corner altogether, as the gang didn't really need it and I had no other place for it. I then moved one of the "Arcade Room Stuff" shelves (by Cepzid) containing Alice’s crystals out to fit in the display for all the various werewolf tablets and stuff (and put the one Victor fished up in its appropriate spot), then rearranged the crystals so they’d all fit into the remaining two shelves and I could delete the spare. And I finished by moving Alice’s meditation stool over to the opposite corner where the rocking chair was, as it looked like she was gonna bonk her head on the werewolf tablet shelves if she started levitating in her usual spot! XD Don't want that.
Rec Room – And finally, up in the attic, I put that one picture Victor did of Alice scratching herself on their honeymoon up by the microphone (again, couldn't bring myself to delete it); changed out the couch to another super-expensive, super-comfy one (this time blue with a gold frame to go with the rug); hung one of Alice’s spare paintings on the wall by the bubble blower (so there’s now three colorful paintings over there); and moved the recolored giant rabbit and the knitting basket over into the corner by Smiler’s frog collection. *nods* Good spot for everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!
And there you have it! Not a particularly HUGE remodel, except for maybe the kitchen, but the house is now a nicer place to live, and the decorations on the walls are perhaps a little more sensible. :p Next time, we see if the newly upgraded house helps everyone achieve their New Year's Resolutions!
#sims 4#the lazy save#builds#house remodel#rather like how the kitchen came out! :D#it's fun to clutter them up#and I am enjoying the new small appliances#they just add an extra little something to cooking you know?#plus my Sims can finally experience pizza since I never think to ORDER food in this game#homemade is nicer anyway :)#little sad that the rocking chair had to go but I really didn't have room for it#maybe at some point I will bring it back#suppose I could always replace the bubble blower#I thought for sure that would be a win with this household#or at least with Smiler#but nope#nobody seems to actually like it#*shrug* I'll figure out something I suppose#but yes happy with these house upgrades#we'll see when the mood next strikes me to give the place a refresh!#queued
"I don't think I could have the relationship with you that you have with me," she said. She was very casual about it, and I was immediately on the defensive.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked.
She put the book she'd been reading down. "It's just, the way you've described it, and the vibe that I get, I don't think I could do it how you do it."
"I still don't know what that means," I said.
"You're always doing this like ... micro calculation thing," she said. "You weigh your words. You try to time things. You have never once called me up while I was at work, or asked me for something when it was inconvenient for me, and you check and double check that you're not being a nuisance."
"And ... that's bad?" I asked.
"No, I love that about you," she said. "It's very kind and considerate. I know that if I tell you I'm not in the mood to hang out, you'll apologize and not push it. If you suggest that we get pizza and I say I'd rather have Korean BBQ, you fold instantly and we get Korean BBQ. I like that. I get the things I want. But it seems like an exhausting way to deal with people."
"I want you to be happy," I said with a small voice.
"I am happy," she replied. "You're great. You remember when we first got together I was like 'hey, look, if you want pizza, we can get pizza, it's just not what I'm in the mood for', and you kept insisting that you didn't care, that you would rather have me follow my needs? And I just thought, 'you know, maybe I should just trust that's what they actually feel'. And it is, as far as I can tell. There's not some secret part of you that wants me to break your way."
"You think I'm ... a simpering coward?" I asked. Even as I said it, it felt too accusatory, the wrong thing to say in the situation.
"Whoa, no, not at all," she laughed. "I think you do all that stuff because ... I don't know, you want to? Because otherwise why would you do it? It's how you are with every aspect of your life, you're a tryhard. I mean you said to me that you wanted to reclaim the term. Your relationship with me is that you're a tryhard (affectionate)."
"And you're ... not?" I asked.
"I'm not that way with anyone," she replied. "You know why I hang out with you so much? It's 'cause I like you. Most days, I am very much in the mood for you, and if you ask for a meetup, I'll say yes, and if you don't ask for one, then I'll ask you first. And for you ..."
"What?" I asked.
"It's like ... you're keeping track," she said. "You want to make sure that you're not sending me more messages than I'm sending you. You're balancing social micro stuff that I don't pay attention to. You're consciously monitoring how much each of us has said and making sure it's the right number of words or whatever."
"It's really not about the number of words," I replied. "It's more ... making sure that social and emotional labor is equitable, that there's a good rhythm to the conversation. I don't think you'd get good results by tracking word count."
"But see, I don't do any of that," she said. "I talk because I feel like talking. I listen when you need to vent because I like you and it feels good to give you an outlet. I mean you are undoubtedly putting in a bunch of work, and for me, there's no work. That's all I meant, really."
"You've thought about it," I said.
"Oh, I'm just reading this book, and there are two characters like us in it, and I was like 'yes, exactly', and then 'that would not work for me'." She shrugged.
"And if I stopped 'putting in the work'?" I asked. "Would we still be ... friends?"
"See, I don't know," she said. "Because that's never who you've been. You're asking me if I would still be friends with you if you changed your personality and how we interact with each other. Maybe? Probably? Who knows? Maybe we'd be better friends somehow. Maybe we're just two basically compatible people, and every time you've ever worried about anything it would actually have been completely fine."
"Or maybe it's load-bearing," I said.
"Maybe!" she replied with a smile that slowly faded. "You okay?"
"I'm thinking," I said. I didn't know if I could verbalize what I was thinking in a way that would be palatable.
"Do you not like being this way with me?" she asked. "Because I have never asked you to. I've made my preferences known, but if you've been bending yourself into knots and feeling a burden, then ..."
"No," I said, because I knew it was what she wanted to hear. "No, I like the way things are between us."
"Good," she smiled. "I do too."
At Fault | MV1
pairing: Max Verstappen x reader
summary: Max invites his ex to a gp and upsets you. Soft and stubborn Max, but he’s a cutie. A mix between angst and fluff, but mostly fluff towards the end. Lots of reader just ranting. Plus a little cameo from the Ferrari WAGs <3.
warnings: Does Kelly count as a warning? Kinda of toxic, I’m not really sure? But who actually likes seeing their boyfriend’s ex girlfriend??
author’s note: Italics are flashbacks! This turned out longer than expected, but I hope you guys like it! It’s also been a while since I’ve written fics, so it there are any errors pls ignore them😭
The tension in the car was thick. So thick, Max believed he could cut it with a knife.
Your arms were crossed as you stared out the window while Max glanced at you wearily every other second. Thankfully, there were only three of you in the car. You and Max in the backseat, and the driver in front being separated by a divider. Though, Max was sure the driver was able to hear the current disagreement between you and him.
Max fidgeted with the lanyard of his paddock pass and stared at the side of your face. He knew he had upset you and honestly you had every right to be. You were biting the inside of your cheek in frustration trying to keep your emotions at bay. As much as you wanted to argue with Max about how you disagreed with his actions, he was due to race in a couple of hours and you didn’t want to add any more stress on his shoulders.
But Max wanted to talk about this now while you were both alone.
“Schatje, are you really mad?” Max asked quietly, leaning closer to you and trying to get you to face him. He truly didn’t mean to dampen your mood before the race. Most importantly, he didn’t like that he was the reason for you being upset. Your brows furrowed ever so slightly and a faint pout was on your lips, both indications that you were in fact not happy with him.
“Yes, Max, I am mad.” You answered, your voice trembling a bit. You had finally turned away from the window and were looking at him. Max felt a pang of guilt in his heart once he saw the look in your eyes. They weren’t glaring at him with the heat of anger, but they were soft and glossy, you were hurt—he hurt you.
Max cautiously reached out for your hand and tangled your fingers together, though your hand felt limp, like you didn’t want to hold his hand at all.
“I told you the truth.” Max said, leaning his head down trying to catch your eyes again. You took in a deep breath before turning to fully face him.
“Yes Max, you did and I absolutely appreciate it. I really do.” You began, grasping his hand between yours. “But that doesn’t make up for that fact that you’ve had this planned out for nearly a month and only told me thirty minutes ago!” You argued.
Thirty minutes ago, before your ride to the paddock can pick you guys up, Max had revealed that his ex-girlfriend, Kelly, and her daughter would be at the garage to watch the race. When you asked how they got passes to the garage, he shared that he had flown them out and provided them with passes for the weekend.
“So she’s been here all weekend?” You questioned him, arms crossed and a brow raised at him. The Italian heat felt even ten times worse as you grew frustrated with your boyfriend.
“Yeah, but they were at the Paddock Club, they’re going to watch the race from the garage though.” Max shrugged, as if it were not a big deal. He adjusted the bag on his shoulder and grasped your hand in his free one.
You couldn’t help the feeling of insecurity seeping into your bones. Kelly was rich and gorgeous, she was a model, and you weren’t. You had a normal job that offered you stability, paid you good money, and you knew how to clean up nice. However, you were no where near her level of anything or any of the other WAGs at that.
“You’ve known this whole time that she was here?” You asked quietly, your brows furrowed at him. You hated that you kept asking him questions, it was like you were interrogating him.
Max looked down at you, confusion etched on his face, “I did, schatje. I flew them out and got them some paddock passes.” You acted before you could speak, and shook your head at him, rolling your eyes in annoyance. Your boyfriend was one of the sweetest people you’ve ever met, however, many people took that as a sign to take advantage of him. While it took him longer to realize it, you noticed it instantly.
“I don’t understand why you’re so upset though, I told you the truth, it’s not like I’m doing anything with her.” Max defended himself, his hands wildly moving around. “She reached out telling me that P missed me and wanted to come to a race, it’s not for her, it’s for Penelope.”
“I understand that Max and as harsh as this sounds, Penelope isn’t your responsibility. I get that you helped raise her, but you guys broke up, you don’t need to provide for her anymore.” You threw a hand in the air, emphasizing your point. “Kelly’s fully capable of flying herself out and buying tickets to a race weekend.”
“I was just being nice.” Max raised his voice, also growing frustrated with the situation.
“And she’s still using you!” You fumed, tears welled in the corner of your eyes. “How many times does she have to use you for you to realize it? You guys broke up and she still manages to get what she wants out of you! Do you know how embarrassing it is to walk in and see her there?” You tried to reason with him. While many of his fans didn’t approve of Kelly, you knew Twitter would have a field day clowning you when they find out Kelly was present in the garage. Social media was never always a nice place and you’ve learned to ignore it, but that didn’t mean it stopped the hate from happening.
Max ran a hand through his hair and sighed.
“This is ridiculous.” He muttered under his breath, you scoffed and leaned back into your seat, staring at the window again.
“Do you not trust me?” Max asked forcibly, staring at the side of your head again. You let out a defeated sigh and turn your head to look at him, “I do trust you, Max.”
Max’s shoulders slouched as he leaned on the seat sideways, his body fully turned to you.
“Then why do you not trust me with this?” He pushed, nudging your knee with his, trying to get an answer out of you. He knew he was at fault and he just wanted to make it right.
“I don’t trust her.” You simply answered, feeling done with the conversation. The car turned, nearing the entrance of the paddock. You sniffled as you untucked your hair from behind your ears, removing your sunglasses from the top of your head.
“You don’t have to worry about her, schatje. I want you not her, there’s a reason why we broke up.” Max reassured, trying to ease the tension between the two of you.
The car came to a halt, a knock came from the driver, indicating that you guys arrived at the paddock. Before you could leave, you turned to Max and said, “Yet, she’s still here.”
ଓ⋆˙⟡₊ ⊹
Entering the paddock was always a frenzy. The moment you stepped out the car, fans were quick to recognize you, knowing that one of their favorite drivers were right behind you. You slid your sunglasses on and smoothed out the white maxi dress you wore. Max followed in suit and flashed a smile at the fans.
Shouldering his bag, he held his hand out to you, “I know you’re upset, but can I please hold your hand?”
You nodded and entangled your fingers with his. The two of you began your walk into the paddock hand in hand, as fans screamed and waved at Max. He gave your hand a squeeze before guiding you guys to some of the barricades and signing a few things for the fans.
After you guys scanned your passes, Max led you guys to the Red Bull garage. However, you came to a halt. Max was quick to look back at you, “You okay?”
“Yeah—I’m gonna meet up with Alex and Rebecca, if that’s okay? We were planning on seeing each other before the race.” You tell him. A small pout formed on Max’s lips, “Oh, okay, I’ll drop you off.” He offered, still holding your hand.
You and the girls decided to meet up at the Paddock Club. In front of the entrance, Max stood in front of you.
“You’ll come to the garage to watch, right? I need you there.” He asked quietly, so that people passing by cannot hear your conversation.
You nodded, “Yeah, I’ll be there before you’re in the car.”
Max mirrored your actions, “Okay, I love you.” He pulled you in by the waist and pressed a kiss onto your forehead. You squeezed his waist in response, “I love you too.”
Max watched as you entered the building, huffing to himself, while he watched you walk further and further into the building.
Placing your sunglasses above your head, you scan the room until you see one of the girls, Alex was the first to spot you, standing in her spot and waving at you to come over.
“Coucou mon amour!” She greeted you, (Hello, my love!) immediately wrapping you in a hug. You squeal as she squeezed you, “Helloo!” You giggled. You go to greet Rebecca, who is immediately giving you a knowing look. Being the older one amongst the three of you, she was often looked up to as the older sister.
She wrapped an arm around you and smoothed your back, “What’s wrong?” She asked while you got situated in the chair beside her.
You shook your head, “It’s just Max.”
Rebecca grabbed the bottle of champagne on the table and poured some into a flute glass. She offered you the glass, “Thank you, I needed this.”
She smiled watching you take a long sip from the glass, “Oh honey, I know.”
Alex pouted and nudged your foot with hers, “What happened with Max?”
“He invited Kelly to watch the race at the garage today.” You bluntly shared, slumping yourself in your chair.
Rebecca’s eyes widened, “Shut up.”
You raised a brow at her, “Oh, I didn’t even get to the kicker yet.”
Alex’s brows raised, “Which is?”
“He flew her out—he fucking flew her out and gave her tickets for the entire weekend.” You revealed through gritted teeth, still being aware of your surroundings. Rebecca cursed under her breath as Alex took your glass and refilled it with champagne.
Grabbing the glass, you continued, “She’s literally been here all weekend and he only told me this morning. I just don’t get it, they broke up, I don’t know why he’s still so concerned about her.” You took another long sip of champagne,
“What was the reason why?” Rebecca asked you.
“Apparently Penelope missed him—which I can believe, but did he really have to do all the providing when she can financially support herself? I get that he was trying to be nice, but still.” You grunt, fiddling with your glass.
Alex comfortingly rubbed your arm, “No, I get it, if Charles did the same thing with his ex, I’d also be upset.”
“I literally told him that she’s using him once again.” You threw your hands up. “If he wants her to be there so much, he might as well just get back with her. Like—am I crazy for losing my mind at the fact they were in contact with each other, even if it wasn’t in a romantic sense?”
Rebecca shook her head, “No, your feelings are absolutely valid. You’re just concerned and it obviously caught you off guard. He shouldn’t have been texting his ex in the first place.”
You groaned and held your head in your hands, “I hate feeling like this, it makes me question if he actually wants to be with me or not.”
Rebecca held her finger up, “I’m gonna stop you right there.” Placing her hand on your shoulder she says, “Max might be acting very stupid right now, but one thing I know for sure is that Max loves you and absolutely adores you. Without a doubt.”
Alex nodded, agreeing with Rebecca, “Like have you seen the way he looks at you? He literally worships the ground you walk on. I’m sure he’s beating himself up right now for doing what he did.”
“He loves you, (y/n), everyone who’s seen you guys together knows it. I don’t think he’d put himself in this kind of position on purpose, you’ve got that man wrapped around your finger, babe.” Rebecca reassured you, throwing her arm around your shoulder and pulling you into another hug.
“Come on cheer up, who cares if she’s in the garage today? You’re the one he’s gonna be going home with tonight.” You laughed shaking your head at her teasing.
“Hey! Tonight and every single night!” Alex pointed out raising her glass at you.
ଓ⋆˙⟡₊ ⊹
Two hours. It’s been two hours since Max has dropped you off at the Paddock Club and he still hasn’t heard back from you. He’s been distracted all day. During a meeting with Christian and some of the engineers, he couldn’t help but constantly check for a text from you, earning himself a scolding from the team principal. Checo and a couple of people from the team tried talking to him, but he wasn’t paying attention. His eyes wandered wondering when you would enter the garage.
He did in fact see Kelly and P—obviously he was expecting to see them since he invited them, but all he felt while talking to them was guilt. Guilty because he remembered the look of hurt and betrayal in your eyes and how he was the reason behind it. He hated it, he felt grimy, and dirty for going behind your back and texting Kelly. Not even ten minutes into catching up with the mother and daughter, Max realized that you were in fact correct. Kelly had used him again, instantly making advances on him despite knowing he was happily taken. But for the sake of P, Max made sure to be friendly though kept his distance to not feed into her mother’s schemes.
It was nearing lights out and you were still not in the garage. He had gone through his warm ups with Bradley, had his fireproofs and suit on, and even laced up his shoes. Still, no sight of you whatsoever in the garage. He was beginning to worry about you, sending you a couple of messages to your phone.
The car was due to be on the grid and there was about half an hour left till lights out. Max looked around the bustling garage, checking to see if you had snuck in without him seeing, though to no avail, you still weren’t there.
“Max…Max…Max?” GP tried to get Max’s attention. Snapping a finger in front of the driver’s face, Max’s eyes flickered over to his race engineer.
“What do you want now?” Max groaned, throwing his head back. To onlookers, it looked like a typical interaction between Max and GP. Though, GP felt like he was babysitting a child whose attention span couldn’t focus on one thing for more than a few seconds.
“Mate, I’ve been talking to you for the past five minutes.” GP claimed. Choosing to ignore the information he had just “briefed” Max on, he decided to be a friend.
“Where’s your head at?” GP asked Max. The Dutch man sighed, leaning against one of the storage units in the garage.
“I messed up with (y/n). I did something and it was my fault, I know it was. But she’s not happy with me at the moment and I just want to make it right.” Max summarized, not sharing any more details to protect the privacy of your relationship.
GP motioned towards Kelly who was talking to one of the other influencers in the garage, “Does it have to deal with that?”
“Unfortunately.” Max mumbled, crossing his arms and choosing to stare at the floor.
GP took a minute to stare at his driver. Max was deflated, he wasn’t as hyped for the race or over explaining some random fact about god knows what. Instead, Max kept to himself, greeting people when he had to and communicating with his team prior to the race. Other than that, Max chose to stare at his phone and look longingly outside the garage.
“Listen, I don’t know what exactly went down. But I’ve seen you with (y/n) and she clearly makes you happy, we’ve all see how lively you are with her around. You’ve got a lot of groveling to do bud, but it’ll be worth it.” GP advised, clapping Max on the back to wake him up.
“She’ll always be worth it.” Max quietly said, taking another glimpse at his phone. Only to be met with his wallpaper of you and him, with no notifications.
Christian Horner stared at his monitor at the pit wall watching as drivers and their teams gathered on the grid. He saw Checo by his car, taking a few sips of water before the race. When the camera panned to Max’s Red Bull, the driver was no where to be seen. Sparing him a second of wondering where his driver was, the camera cut to the garage where Max stood, race suit at his waist, looking no where near ready to participate in the race.
“Why is Max not in the car?” He turned to GP, stress evident on his face. GP turned in his seat and looked back into the garage to see Max pacing. Cursing under his breath, he excused himself from Christian and rushed to Max.
“Max, the race is literally about to start!”
Max stops his pacing and places his hands at his hips, “I need my girlfriend.”
“What?” Bradley and GP both stuttered out. Max deadpanned at the two men in front of him.
“(Y/n), I need to see her before the race.” Max demanded. Bradley pinched the bridge of his nose, “Max, she’ll be here after the race, you’ll be fine.” He pushed the balaclava towards Max’s chest, who simply let the mask fall at his feet.
GP sighed at Max, before calling one of the Red Bull employees.
“Please send out a search for (y/n), Max is refusing to get in the car.” He whispered to the intern. The girl looked at him confusingly but nodded and set out the garage.
You rushed as best as you could in kitten heels towards the Red Bull garage. You were supposed to be at the garage at least half an hour ago. You and the girls got caught up catching up with each other’s lives that none of you realized it was getting close to lights out. It truly was a funny sight, the three of you rushing out of the Paddock Club and running through the paddock like a bunch of maniacs.
“(Y/n)!” You heard someone yell. You stopped in your steps and looked around, only to see a girl dressed in Red Bull uniform. You recognized her, you believed her name was Nicole and was an intern for the team this season.
“Hey! Is Max on the grid already?” You approached her, a little sad that you missed seeing him before the race.
“No, he’s actually waiting for you. They’re sending out a search for you because he’s refusing to get in the car.” Nicole explained, placing a gentle hand on your back and guiding you through the crowd of fans and towards the garage.
GP released a sigh of relief once he saw you enter the garage. He shoved Max’s shoulder to avert his attention to you.
“What—oh,” Max began, only to stop himself and rush towards you. You met him half way, placing a hand on his elbow.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t meant to stay there for too long.” You quickly apologized. Max shook his head, “I don’t care, I’m just happy you’re here.”
Your brows furrowed at him, “Why are you here? Why aren’t you in the car yet?”
Max placed both his hands on your waist with a faint blush on his cheeks, “I need my goodluck kiss.”
You paused your actions, “You’re kidding me. Max, the race is about to start in five minutes!” You scolded your boyfriend.
“Please, schatje.” He pleaded, leaning closer towards you. Other team members and guests watched the both of you, the scene in front of them peaking their interests.
You gazed up at his stormy eyes, giving in because you knew he was stubborn and wouldn’t stop until he got his way. Plus, the team would hate you if you lowered their chances of scoring points this weekend.
“Just because I kiss you doesn’t mean I’m not mad at you anymore.” You clarified quietly. His forehead nodded against yours, “I know schatje. I promise to make it up to you, I really do.”
A small smile forms on your lips, “I know, Maxie.”
Max takes that as his sign to crash his lips onto yours. One of his hands support the back of your neck while the other rests on your lower back. You smile against his lips, pulling back and placing a peck right above the small mole on his upper lip.
“I love you.” You whispered to him.
“I love you too.” He whispered back. Before you can fully pull away from him he quickly adds, “I’m serious about my promise.”
“I know, baby.” You squeeze him comfortingly. “Now get out there and win the race. Stay safe.”
He pressed a kiss to your forehead as both you and GP ushered him towards his gear that’s been waiting to be put on.
ଓ⋆˙⟡₊ ⊹
A man of his word, Max won the race. With at least a five second gap between him and Lando, your boy was top step yet once again. As much as he won, the thrill of seeing him win and crossing the finish line never got old. You celebrated every win of his as if it were his first. You’d always be proud of him, whether he got pole or not.
Many of the engineers and members of the team began to rush towards the grid, eager to greet Max once he got out the car.
Looking around, you suddenly make eye contact with Kelly, who seemed to have been sizing you up. You weren’t really sure what look was on her face, but the hints of a snarl were on her lips. With her nose stuck up in the air, you watched as she carried her daughter and began to follow the rest of the team.
“Don’t mind her. You’re the one he wants to see when he gets out that car.” A voice said from beside you. You jumped, coming face to face with Christian. Your eyes widened at your boyfriend’s boss. Prior to the race, he was informed of the search party the entire team had for you to get Max in the car. While he was annoyed earlier, he thought it was rather cute that Max was so fond of you.
“You know, he’s never begged her for a good luck kiss.” Said Christian, a knowing look on his features. “You on the other hand—he can’t seem to function whenever you’re not around.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know he was gonna put that much of a fight earlier today.” You apologized, feeling a bit flustered. “He’s a bit stubborn sometimes.” You added, to which Christian chuckled at.
“Oh, I know. Max and I have worked together for years.” He stated. He glanced out the garage and motioned towards it, “C’mon now, I’m sure he’s already looking for you.”
ଓ⋆˙⟡₊ ⊹
You make your way through the crowd of Red Bull members, many of them recognizing you and helping you squeeze through till you were at the very front of the barricade.
Max was already out, helmet in his hand, while his other embraced GP and a couple other engineers. You watched as he high-fived Penelope, barely sparing a glance at her mother. A little burst of pride went off in your stomach, you couldn’t help it.
His blue orbs scanned the crowd of red and blue, looking for you. You yell his name, his eyes immediately finding yours. A smile breaks out on his face as he rushed over to you, dropping his helmet in the process. Despite the barricade between you two, he wraps both his arms tightly around you, lifting you off the ground.
“Max!” You squealed, your arms wrapping around his neck. His large hand found your cheek, slightly pulling you away from his neck so he can connect his lips with yours. Naturally, your lips moulded perfectly against his moving in synch. The team erupted in cheers around you.
“I’m so proud of you!” You tell him once your lips separate.
“I couldn’t have done it without you.” He grins, gently pinching your bottom lip between his pointer finger and thumb.
He couldn’t stay long, being told that he had to get to the podium for the trophy ceremony.
“I’ll see you after the podium, schatje!” He yelled with a wink over his shoulder, causing a blush to form on your cheeks.
ଓ⋆˙⟡₊ ⊹
The ceremony and the media tent took a while, you finally got to see Max an hour later. You were sitting in his driver’s room, when he bursted through the door already looking for you.
You stood up, smiling at him, “Hey.”
He mirrors your smile. Placing the trophy on the couch he opens his arms for you. You walk into the comfort of his hold, burying your head into the crook of his neck and wrapping your arms around his torso.
Finally it was just the two of you.
“I’m sorry.” You said, though it came out muffled against his skin. Max’s hands stopped the circular motions they were rubbing on your back.
“For what?”
You pulled back looking at him, “I overreacted about the whole Kelly thing. I should’ve taken your word for it.”
Max immediately shook his head, disagreeing with you. “No, you were absolutely right about her. I should’ve listened to you from the beginning. The moment I said hi to them she was already trying to come onto me—I avoided her by the way, I just entertained P.”
“I’m also sorry for what I said about P. I was in the wrong for that comment.” You said, a small grimace on your face when you remembered the off hand comment you made about the poor child.
Max chuckled, “Schatje, seriously, it’s okay.”
His calloused hands were rough against the soft skin of your face. He tucked a strand of hair behind your ear and cradled your jaw in his hand.
“I may have a soft spot for P, but they’re in my past. You’re my future, (y/n). The future that I only want and see myself in.” Max admitted. Your eyes gleamed at him, “You’re the future I want too, Maxie.”
“Good because you’re not getting rid of me that easily. You’re stuck with me.” He joked, squeezing your cheeks.
“I love you. So much. I know it seemed like I didn’t trust you today, but I want you to know that I do. I fully trust you with my life and I mean it.” You said, your fingers playing with the ends of his hair at the nape of his neck.
Max nodded, “I believe you. I love you too.”
The two of you basked in the silence and comfort of being in each others arms. Max was the first one to break the silence, “You don’t have plans after this right?”
You hummed against his neck, “Besides celebrating your win, nothing. Why?”
“Because I’m taking you out on a date.” Max proudly announced, a goofy smile on his lips.
“Don’t you wanna celebrate with the team?” You asked him. Max shook his head, “Nope, the only person I want to celebrate with tonight is you.”
You giggled at Max’s antics, “Whatever you say, Champ.”
