I felt bad for not seeing the update sooner so have this. Was reading it and was already planning out which parts to doodle, and then—NEZHA??!?!

so of course, I had to draw him. I love their interactions so much, it made me want to cackle—but I don't think laughing at 11pm when everyone else is asleep is socially acceptable.

Can we add Peng to the murder list, yes thank you. I can and will advocate for their deaths, i refuse to let this fic end w/o some sort of retribution.

Okayyy Li family designs and head canons now

Here are their outfit refs and various head canons and lore ramblings if you scroll further, you know the drill :3

Zhenying is good friends with Longnü and Ao Lie despite being two years younger than them. She's been friends with Longnü since she was two and met Ao Lie after she became an immortal

Zhenying’s design draws loosely from the Chinese Oriole, a bird symbolising joy and friendship

Yes, all of Nezha's siblings knew about his and Ao Bing's friendship when they were younger. It's just Muzha that's oblivious to their current relationship

Jinzha has long since graduated from being Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun’s disciple and now works as a member of the Court of Heaven as one of the Five Wisdom Kings

Muzha is a senior disciple of Guanyin, along with one Ao Cinxin. ‘Senior disciple’ is more a of a courtesy title, as Muzha more of an assistant to Guanyin than a student

Zhenying is currently a disciple of Yuding Zhenren, the same deity that taught Erlang Shen. None of her brothers are thrilled about this

Erlang Shen is the one who recommended Zhenying for the work of a fighter pilot for the Celestial Army. It stresses Li Jing out

Muzha is the one who actually introduced Ao Cinxin and Erlang Shen to each other, having been long time acquaintances with them both. He likes bragging about the fact that he got them together, by complete accident

Nezha loved his mother deeply. She was the person who built his first (and favourite) temple but also she was good and kind and helped his best friend through the worst time of his life when Nezha didn't know how. He'll always respect her for it

Nezha's reasoning for still sticking close to his father despite all the shit Li Jing puts him through is because of how much Lady Yin loved him. There must have been a reason his mother loved his father so much, right? There must’ve been. There must've. Why can't Nezha see it then?

Jinzha looks the most like Lady Yin. None of them look like Li Jing all that much. In fact, they all get very insulted if someone ever says that they look like their dad

Before his suicide and rebirth, Nezha's eyes were brown. They're now more reddish

Muzha has heterochromia, his right eye is grey and and left is brown

Zhenying’s rankings for her brothers goes as such:

Muzha. She and him are very like minded and she gets along best with him as a result. It's also him that she sees most often in the Celestial Realm. He's twelve years her senior

Jinzha. She doesn't see him as much but she admires that he's very hardworking and would stand for the things he believes in. He is sixteen years older than her

Nezha. Zhenying holds a lot of hate and resentment for her third brother. They have an eight year age difference

Jinzha is actually allergic to lotus root. It's nothing serious, he just gets hives if he ingests some, but it sucks because a lot of specialties of Chengtang Pass are made with lotus root

He also gets itchy after he kisses Nezha on the cheek or things like that, since Nezha's body is made of lotus paste. Nezha protests against Jinzha’s affection, not wanting to trigger his allergy, but Jinzha does not care lmao. Muzha even encourages it

Muzha is the one that gets along with all of his siblings' teachers and often has tea with them. Sometimes, Zhenying will also tag along. This is how Zhenying enlisted Taiyi Zhenren’s help in resurrecting Ao Bing

Muzha is the most sociable out of the four of them, and he looks the most approachable by far

Zhenying greatly admires Ao Bing, mostly because of how highly both Longnü and Ao Lie spoke of him. She hates that she does not remember him more

Muzha’s most prized possession is a pair of gold hoop earrings that he inherited from his mother

Li Jing’s favourite child is Zhenying

Nezha still keeps up frequent contact with his older brothers. It's just Zhenying that he doesn't speak to often, not like she wants to speak to him anyway

Zhenying is just a smidgen taller than Nezha. He's the shortest out of the four of them and he's not happy about it

Muzha has a fierce loyalty to their father. To the point where he was injured by Nezha during a fight between him and Li Jing. They’ve long been over that incident and Muzha loves his father and younger brother very much… but even he has to admit sometimes that his father can go too far

On the other hand, Jinzha prefers Nezha over Li Jing. He hates his fathers temper, something that both Nezha and Zhenying inherited, and wishes that he could be more rational at times

Zhenying’s the most doted on by Li Jing. Sometimes, it makes her feel guilty that he loves her so much in comparison with her brothers, especially when Zhenying herself would much rather her own mother than her father

Muzha dresses the most casual since it’s rare that he’s actually attending celestial court meetings

While all the Li siblings are friends with at least one of the East or West Sea dragons, (Ao Bing for Nezha, Longnü for Zhenying, Cinxin for Muzha,) Jinzha is actually friends with both Ao Jia and Ao Moang

Muzha: Wow da ge! How come dad lets you have two dragon friendships?

Jinzha: Diplomatic relations lmao

On second thought, maybe it's just Muzha that doesn't have a second friendship with a royal dragon, since Zhenying and Nezha both knew and were friendly with Ao Lie. But does that count when he's dead?

Nezha and Zhenying's dynamic on the days where they're chill with each other:

I was trying to think of some things relating to Nezha, and I can at least believe that he sees MK and Mei as kinda annoying younger siblings that come to him for various reasons.

Nezha's also secretly collecting blackmail on everyone so that he can get people to leave him alone sometimes. He has multiple stashes and copies of said blackmail hidden all over the country, continent, and maybe a small stash in the Celestial Realm.

In return for getting rid of some of his blackmail, Sun Wukong (and Macaque) bribed Nezha with blackmail and embarrassing stories about his father.

Also most people who know Nezha would never believe he could/would blackmail someone.

One of Heaven's Mighty Protectors

Tea Collection 7; Yellow Tusk Rhodiola (A herbal tea)

The nights in the Celestial Realm were calm and quiet. He was only allowed to see the moon light and enjoy the cool breeze because he now wore shackles about his ankles heavy and tight. They kept him bound to the Buddhas, and would only be removed when he proved himself worthy of trust again.

He did not complain. He knew it could have been so much worse. So he was content to sit in the quiet of the little courtyard of his current abode in the Buddha's Heaven, a simple building with space enough for him and his needs, watching the last of the evening sky brighten and shift into the dawn, ignoring the Celestial Guards who were posted at the gates, making sure he wasn't up to trouble.

“Yellow Tusk.”

The elephant looked down at the voice, shock written across his face as he looked upon the man and hound before him. The Illustrious Sage, Erlang Shen. the Immortal who had defeated Wukong during his Havoc in Heaven and refused to take the victory with honour as it was an dishonourable defeat to Wukong due to the trick of it. And with him, Xaiotain Quan, the Loyal Hound of the Heavens.

“I would have come sooner, but there was much work to be done, and more still to do, but Nezha has insisted that I take the chance to speak with you.” Erlang Shen explained.

“What topic could you possibly have to discuss with me?” The elephant asked. “Yours and mine have never been fond of idle chatter.”

“True, but from what Wukong was willing to share when last he and I spoke, it was you and the Six Eared Macaque who seemed the most concerned with the legalities and down sides of such an attack on the Heavens.” The Sage said, “I wish to know what changed, why the six of you attacked that day.”

“You ought to know why.” Yellow Tusk said. “Macaque and I had managed to convince our brothers to wait and properly consider the aftermath of our success, the work and efforts it would take to even begin the changes we wished to implement and establish to better the world. Then Demon Bull King found two little monkeys, hurt and near death in the forest of the mountain, because of Heaven’s Hunters.”

“You had proof of it?” Erlang Shen asked.

“The Demon Bull King said he smelt Heaven there, that is why is investigated, and to be sure Wukong sent his General to investigate further while the little Monkeys were tended to. They both told Wukong that the ones who attacked them wore white and golden robes with golden helmets that had high tied tails and hid their eyes.” Yellow Tusk explained and pretended not to notice the way Xaiotain Quan turned his head and looked at the near by guards, all of whom had also spared a glance to each other, it was a simple explanation but in the eyes of little ones, and monkeys it seemed, it was the garb they all wore. “We attacked in retaliation only after Wukong’s general returned and reported Celestial scents and tacks from Heaven’s boots in the area, as well as a further five young monkeys who had not survived. Wukong laid those innocents to rest and by dawn the next day, we were decided and as the sun rose, we attacked. Retaliation against the Heavens for their strike against the children of Wukong’s troop.”

Erlang Shen blinked, all three of his eyes and then offered Yellow Tusk a scroll. “This contains the results of an investigation into the matter by the Tenth King of the Underworld, conducted at the request of the Merciful Guanyin while you, the Golden Winged Peng and Azure Lion were held within the Memory Scroll,” he explained as Yellow Tusk took the scroll and carefully unrolled it. “It is with Wukong’s blessing that I am permitted to give this to you now.”

“Why…?” Yellow Tusk asked as he began to read and with each word, he felt his stomach twist in an awful way.

It is undeniable that while knowing and willing in their participation in the plot against the Jade Emperor, both Yellow Tusk the Wise Elephant and The Golden Winged Peng were unaware and uninvolved in the actions that drove Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, to once again storm Heaven.

Azure Lion acted and schemed this trick alone.

Through manipulations of a father in desperate need to feed his family, Azure Lion arranged the deaths of five young Monkeys to be done by a mortal man and his three sons native to the north of the land, in exchange for coin and a home in Camel Ridge. Azure Lion prepared the man and sons with Heavenly perfumes and garbs made from his own Heavenly robes to do the deed. While perhaps not convincing to the eyes of officials and highly ranked individuals, it would not be obvious to humans that these men were not truly of Heaven’s ranks.

Then when the deed was done, Azure Lion saw himself that the father and sons would not speak of their act. The wife and youngest child were spared only because they were unaware of the deed in its entirety, and lived comfortable lives until their own deaths later in life from natural causes. It is clear, even so long after the fact, that Azure Lion has not shared his trick against the Monkey King with the Golden Winged Peng or Yellow Tusk the Wise. All indications show that this was an act Azure Lion believed necessary to force the Monkey King’s hand to act and bring about a new era.

Yellow Tusk sank into his chair, heavy with a weight he couldn’t name and haunted by questions he couldn’t hope to yet answer. Azure had done this? His brother, his faithful, kind, loyal, honourable brother…? No, no this couldn’t be… This couldn’t possibly be…

“It can’t be true… Azure would never.” He couldn’t have! Azure knew how much Wukong loved his little monkeys, they were his children, his grandchildren, they were dear and precious to him and to hurt them… Azure couldn’t have…

“There is a Memory fragment attached to the report.” Erlang Shen said, his tone even and calm as he held a smaller scroll, pale blue in colour and held shut by a simple ribbon. 

Numbly Yellow Tusk nodded, and set the first scroll down as Erlang Shen gently unrolled the second Scroll.

Silently they watched.

A mortal man, a father of four with barely any coin to his name, had sought Azure Lion for permission to bring his family, his wife, three sons and baby daughter to Camel Ridge to start a new life where they could live without fear. Azure had agreed but on the condition that the man and his sons help him with a small matter.

Using his own robes, stolen boots and polished brass, Azure Lion had fashioned the garbs of Celestial Warriors for the father and sons, soaked them in heavenly scents and then set them to hunt monkeys in the forest of Flower and Fruit Mountain in the darkness of a moonless night.

With five dead monkeys, the father and sons left the forest, using the heavenly teleportation token Azure had made for this deed and then killed them, burning their bodies into ashes in the same fire that he used to burn the evidence of his deed and melt down the brass into ingots, sweeping the ashes and ruins into a thick sack and used it to help make fertiliser for the garden of the father and sons family.

Azure’s plan had been to tell Wukong himself, but instead, it was from two injured monkeys and the Demon Bull King that Wukong heard the news and in his anger, Wukong had made his choice.

“Wukong… knew about this?” Yellow Tusk asked.

“I did not ask.” Erlang Shen said, rolling the two scrolls back up and putting them into his sleeves. “He asked the Merciful Guanyin to look into the matter as part of a deal between them; he only learnt of this truth after his Journey West was completed. It is why you were all sealed within the Scroll.”

That did explain why Wukong was so angry when he came to Camel Ridge. It wasn’t just about the Monk and Macaque… 

Hearing water being poured into a cup brought Yellow Tusk from his thoughts, he looked up to see the Illustrious Sage had poured them both a cup of tea, Rhodiola if his nose wasn’t mistaken.

“Chi Yue spoke often of how you preferred this blend.” The Sage admitted when the elephant gave him a questioning look. “And, I promised her I’d make sure you were given a fair trial and chance to improve. Part of that starts with educating you on the way of things now.”

“I doubt much has changed.” Yellow Tusk said. “Wukong wanders freely, the Demon Bull King is unrestrained and the Spider Clan grows in strength. It seems all that has changed is the acceptance of Demons amongst the humans.”

Erlang Shen only smiled. “You would be amazed to learn just how much has changed.” he assured and after taking a sip of the tea, he began his explanation.

Nezha arrived late in the afternoon, having been called upon to bring more documents by the Sage. He found them sitting over the still steaming teapot. Erlang Shen was explaining something in greater detail while Yellow Tusk was quietly reading one of the many pages of a document Erlang Shen had produced while Xoaitain Quan laid down in the shade seemingly sleeping. Or at least he was until Nezha stepped into the space and suddenly had the hound at his feet, eager to play.

“Oh alright you oversized puppy.” Nezha assured, smiling as the hound barked in response and wagged his tail so fast his entire rear end wiggled back and forth as the Prince freed one hand to pet the hound’s head. “Let me put this down and we’ll go for a walk.”

“If you have the time, could you take him until the evening?” The Sage asked the Prince. “He hasn’t had a good run in a few days and you are the only one besides myself he listens to. A good play session should tire him enough to behave again.”

“Very well.” Nezha nodded as he put the requested documents and scrolls on the table. “Come Xoaitain Quan.” He called as he left the space and the Loyal Hound practically bolted after the Third Lotus Prince.

“Does he know you did that to make him take a break as well?” Yellow Tusk asked.

“I hope not, I’m running out of ways to convince him to take more breaks as it is.” The Sage sighed. 

“I am unsure if it would work up here, but Wukong and Macaque had a rule for set play times with the monkeys after morning meals and chores were done for the day before evening. They themselves did not work during that time unless it was their turn to make dinner. Then the rest of the evening was spent with music or dancing. It helped boost morale and productivity.”

“I will consider something similar.” The Sage nodded, “stars knows how i’ll convince him though.”

“Tell him it would prove him a better man than his father.” Yellow Tusk suggested.

No one would know that there was a shared smile between them at that suggestion.
