Why is everyone so hung up on NoA's use of the word "inkling????" I've seen so many posts lately that are like "it doesn't make sense that the squid people are called inklings since octolings use ink too so it should be a general term and the squid people should be called squidlings!!!" and like. Yeah. That's true I guess. I dunno, I never really particularly cared about it that much, it's kind of a nitpick. And likeâsomething about "squidling" as a word feels super weird and awkward to me and I don't entirely know why? I think it has something to do with the consonants? Or maybe it's my imagination, who knows. Either way I don't entirely get why people have been getting so hung up on it lately.
#splatoon#thanks NoA for that mistranslation#idk#i think in jp they're referred to as like#squid-inkling and/or octo-inkling#and 'octoling' in the english translation#came from a misunderstanding of the word 'takozoness'#which was meant to refer SPECIFICALLY to the RIVAL octolings#but NoA thought it was a more general term???#i dunno correct me if im wrong on this#its weird because ive only rlly seen ppl care about it recently???#its like the tartar stuff#but stranger since inkling and octoling have existed since the very beginning of the series#maybe people were having issues with it before i dunno#there's definitely been more since splatoon 3#so yeah#not saying its dumb to be upset about it because it IS true but#idk i dont particularly care personally

taash said "they were doing it" and people ran with the interpretation of an npc that doesn't know solas or the history of the elvhenan even when bellara interjected and said, no, that's not right. that's not how it was for the elvhenan. they formed bonds before they had physical bodies. and people ran to doompost or create weird anti-solavellan shit even though mythal & solas refer to each other as old friends and when she releases him there is no tenderness or love in it. it is the act of unchaining a dog from his post, the stepping down of a general. but to each their own ig.
#let the record show i think love was there. do I personally perceive it as romantic / sexual? no.#mythal's perception of love & care is warped in and of itself#i think they loved each other. but she loved what she could take from him and what he could give in terms of service#not because she was romantically into him#also i wish we knew more about her & elgar'nan. her regret prison form says she holds no love for him anymore#and it makes me wonder when that love soured. was it when she was blighted? before that? was that love also born of duty and companionship?#this is the last post i'm gonna make ab this i think#bc i believe people are too caught up in the modern western ideas of love as thing we give solely to our romantic partners#and we literally have a character go âour perception is warped bc of the age we live inâ and some of you are still being purposefully obtuse#and i think trick saying it's up to interpretation is basically admitting EA had them dumb down the game anyway#if everything ab the rise and fall of the evanuris in game#was condensed to five 2min cutscenes it says enough that whatever the writers wanted#was swiftly cut down by corporate dept. basically saying it's in the fans' court now#also bc it's an easy cop out around new players & non solasmancers who are indifferent ab him / dislike him#as a way to appeal thru a more sympathetic lense of look!! he loved and was led astray#not to mention the clear justinia / leliana parallels#and leliana gets angry if you imply she was romantically involved / in love w justinia#and the romance descr when you remake your inq saying the dread wolf could not predict what it would mean to fall IN LOVE#implying he had never fallen in love before or at the very least experienced a romantic love#also him saying drinking from the well would make you a slave and he gets really upset#yet ive seen takes of âhes doing this for her cus he dgaf ab lavellanâ ?? he got mythal killed when he told her ab the blight#whatever feelings of admiration he had for her have rotted. he is literally burdened by his mistakes and his choice in joining her#i feel like if i were a spirit bound and twisted into a weapon i would need my creator to tell me i am Free. i would need that closure#like when cole says its not abuse to bind him if he asks and solas said thats not always true???#if you perceive her interaction w him in vg third act as#anything more than the way justinia released leliana in inq then im sorry maybe youre just obtuse#solavellan#mythal#dragon age meta

Was thinking about @ckret2 's bill when i wrote this, but it applies to bill more generally. I think the main thing people pick up on, maybe subconsciously, about their bill that makes him feel so accurate is that he feels.
A lot of people (and most people are guilty of this including me whether they mean to or not) tend to write him as a tragic immortal? In the sense that he's been beaten down by time and learned never to care about people, and has lost the ability to care.
And the first part of that is true!
He HAS learned never to care about people! In the tbob love page, he says its stupid to tie yourself to a mortal in a way where your happiness depends on them. He's LEARNED this. But he has NOT lost the ability to care. And he DOES care despite knowing he shouldn't.
He interacts with people genuinely, he legitimately enjoys the company of "lesser" mortal species, he has fun, he thinks about people when they're gone, he's taken lovers, he speaks in phrases hes picked up from past earth decades because he likes how they sound (ya dig?).
And some people are frustrated when he's written suave and unfeeling for this reason, because he is a goofball. But the thing is, he DOES act, in a way, suave and unfeeling when it comes to situations like Ford and Dipper. He plays up his "immortal deity" persona, constantly reminding them of all the knowledge he knows, PROVING his value to them.
But he gets mad! He falls in love! He jokes around because its fun! He gets stupid and reckless when he's upset! He burns bridges when he doesnt get his way! These are all insANELY short-sighted things for a trillion-year-old to care about!
This is why he can relate to people, and why he acts like a kid sometimes. I firmly believe that he stopped aging the day he destroyed his dimension (which is basically canon i think) not only physically but mentally. He legitimately cannot mature, cannot gain wisdom no matter how much he tries.
He has a lot of INTELLIGENCE and KNOWLEGE, but its like giving a child the library of alexandria and infinite time to explore. Sure theyll probably learn some things out of boredom or curiosity, but theres no curriculum. They COULD read it all, but why would they? That's boring and dumb and they want to climb the shelves and make book forts instead.
Now, more specifically about ckret2's Goldie:
He describes himself as a consumate extrovert. He hangs out with mabel and watches tv and goes to the Rainbow club. And while he does these things, he isnt thinking "this is so below me, why should i care about any of this?" He's just trying to have fun, and is knowingly fulfilling his social needs. He believes he and ford WERE friends.
And the most important part of this that im always thinking about is Bill claiming that being friends, enjoying peoples company, loving, playing, and all that is not mutually exclusive with being an all powerful god of destruction to be worshipped by all.
Which makes sense! Because he is INTELLIGENT and he knows that he's more powerful than these people, and he SHOULD be a being that demands their worship, and he needs to find something that lasts, and makes sense in the wake of INFINITY. But he also has the mind of a mortal, and he thinks the same way he always has. And with both of these insights, the ONLY thing that MAKES SENSE is to have his cake and eat it too. Focus on the big picture while also enjoying the present, SIMULTANEOUSLY.
Manipulating ford to his own end that leads him closer to his forever plan, while also bringing him to karaoke and falling in love. Securing his rule and reputation over the nightmare realm, being feared throughout the multiverse, having his fingers in as many pies as possible-- while partying with his henchmaniacs, drinking out of solo cups and flashing the cops.
Its the only thing that stops him from going crazy. If you have a mortal mind thats built to love and lose and feel and party and wisecrack, and you relinguish it to the horrifying prospect of timelessness, if you're always looking at the existential...you are not going to last a trillion years.
#im sleepy and kinda rambled and idk if i actually said anything new#oh well#bill cipher#the book of bill#tbob#gravity falls#bill goldilocks cipher#wasting away again in the goldilocks zone

Sorry - Scarlett Johansson
Warnings: Angsty, slightly mean Scarlett (she's a literal baby at the end!), sad reader
Sum: Aftermath of the fight between Y/n and Scarlett
Scarlett JohanssonXFem!Reader
°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°^~°
No one's POV:
You didn't remember the reason why the two of you started to fight anymore. Hours and hours of shouting here and there with so many different topics coming up in every seconds. You just confronted her on being so busy this days, i mean, you know and understand her line with work, but this past few weeks you felt as if you're just a chore for her.
Why is it so hard for her to understand where you are coming from? Because as the shouting gone by, she's flipping the table, and she's coming at you, saying things that's not true, which really hurt you. While Scarlett, is just too tired and exhausted from work, that her anger got triggered when you confronted her, and became too blinded on where you are coming from.
They said that these things, the fightings, is normal in a relationship, but it gets really tiring, so after the last sentence she shouted at you which is "Fuck, why can't you just shut the fuck up?! Can't you understand it? I'm working, and i've been busy!". You just shut your mouth, and made your way to the kitchen.
She made you felt as if you're in the wrong, as if you're the wrong one here, while all you just wanted is a free time from her, it may just be an hour or two, you didn't really care, because all you wanted was her, but now, she took the confrontation the other way.
So, currently, you're here at the kitchen, cooking dinner, while she went upstairs to take a very much needed shower. Even though you're very upset at her, the care you have for her still didn't go away, and the fact that she's tired and exhausted from work, makes you feel like you should still make her feel all better and cared for, that's how you love her.
Now, back to Scarlett, as she take a shower, her mind went back on earlier moments, analyzing and calculating your words, and her words, trying to make out on who's truly wrong. A fight that started from a small conversation. As her mind became wider and more clearer, she realized that she's the one who's in fault.
Because, as much as she don't want to believe it, she been so busy, so busy that her busyness makes her almost forgot about you. Her heart swell in guiltiness, and regrets because of the things she said to you. It almost made her angry with herself, on how dumb she is for not seeing through you, and for not understanding you well.
So, after she's done and all clean up, she quickly turned the shower off, then drying off and putting a much more comfortable clothes on. Then going down the stairs to look for her girl, only to be met by the smell of her favorite food. All she wants to do is to hug you, say sorry, and to whisper comforting words. Her wandering stopped until she found you in the kitchen, and only now did she notice that you're wearing her clothes, from head to toe, it's all of her clothes, it only made her realized more of how much you have really missed her.
And god, don't you look so cute and adorable wearing her clothes that are bigger than you.
Calmly making her way over to you, stoping when she's just behind you, peaking over on what you are cooking, as her arms found its way to your waist, pulling you closer to her until your back touches her front. Even though you don't really want to be near her at the moment, you just let her.
"That smells amazing, my love." She whispered lovingly in your ear, but you made no move and just continued cooking.
Hmp, she deserves this.
"I'm sorry, baby..." Once again, she was met by silence. "I'm really really really sorry, i should've known, im just really tired and exhausted that's why i snapped out, i don't even know where the words i said came from. I'm really sorry, please forgive me." She begged, hiding her face on the crook of your neck, as her hands snaked inside the shirt you are wearing, her fingertips dancing around you tummy soothingly.
She kept begging and apologizing, showering you with kisses, attention, and sweet words. But, you made no action on paying any mind to her.
Now, it's time to eat, but you're still ignoring her, you just eat, while she stared at you. You're halfway, and her stare is really bothering you, plus, the food is getting cold, and ofcourse, you being the caring girlfriend, and with the looks she's giving you, you know she won't eat until you talk to her.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Your voice is calm, it's not as warm as it used to be, but it's not that cold either.
"I am." She squeaked out, she sounds like she's fighting her tears, making you look up.
"Then what are you waiting for? The food will get cold." You said, pointing at the food.
"Talk to me, then I'll eat." She said, her voice is now breaking, her heart cannot contain the pain of you, ignoring her as if she's not there.
"Am i not talking to you right now?" You ask with a raise of an eyebrow, as if it's the most obvious thing. She shook her head, and you see tears started to brim out of her eyes, making you feel bad for the way you're treating her.
Damn, she's so sorry already, why can't you just accept it then move on. But, you want her to feel how you felt, you have valid reasons.
"I'm saying sorry to you, and you won't even acknowledge me." She said, which came out as a whisper as tears fell out of her eyes, which she quickly wipe, then lean back on her chair, looking forward at the plate, avoiding your gaze.
And now, if you would look at your peripheral vision, Scarlett looks like a kid who is being scolded by her mother for not wanting to eat.
You almost felt bad just by looking at her, but it's making you laugh at the same time for how she is acting. Such a baby.
"Okay, sorry, i just- i just thought you would understand what i felt and realized what you did, which i think you do. I wil accept your apology, only if you promise me that you won't do that again." You said now more softly and warm, just how she loves.
"I promise, im really sorry, i really promise to have more time with you, and give you more attention that you deserve." She said, looking at you pleadingly and convincingly, then reaching out to hold you hand.
"Look, im not asking for so much, because i know you're a very busy person, i knew that from the first day i met you. But, an hour or two with you is enough, that's all im asking." You said, softly.
It makes her heart clench on how you're very desperate on having her by your side, it's just a very simple thing that she can't give you, a very simple, but a very heart-warming gesture. You just want her, while all she does is work.
"I'm really sorry, baby..." She started, as she reach over to pull you in her embrace. "I promise, i will give you more than just an hour or two, okay? I will take a break from work, and then we'll go on a vacation, just the two of us, how about that? Would you like that, my love?" She ask softly, hooking her index finger on your chin, making you look up at her.
"You don't have to do that, im just asking yo-" You tried to reason, not wanting to be a burden or anything to stop your girlfriend from doing her work, but you were cut off by Scarlett.
"Shhh, i want to, okay? I want to make it up to you, im just giving you what you deserve, plus we would really need that, i've been busy, and work is really hectic, plus, we would have much more time with each other. Work is nearly done anyways. Pleaseeee?" She begged as she gave you a puppy eyes at the end, making you sigh in defeat.
I mean, the idea of going on a vacation, just the two of you, no works, or anything that can interrupt the both of you, is a good thing right? No, it's amazing.
"Okay, okay, fine. We'll go." You said, and smiled softly at her, which she returned with much more big smile. She lean in to kiss you, and you met her halfway.
The kiss is deep, full of love and passion, but before it can lead to something more, you quickly pull away, much to her dismay.
"Okay, okay, stop, let's eat." You said, chuckling when she groaned.
"Why do we even need to eat?! We're just gonna poop it out anyways." She whined, making you slap her playfully.
"Hey, we're infront of the food." You scolded her while laughing, which made her laugh too, and said a small 'sorry'.
Before she started to eat, she softly capture your face with one hand, and gave your pink plump lips a multiple pecks, that you needed to stop her because she doesn't want to stop.
"Okay, big baby, you're being too spoiled with so many kisses already." You teased, and she pouted, but it quickly go away when you gave her a kiss.
"Now, go on, eat up." You said, which she quickly obliged.
"I love you." She said lovingly, before shoving a food in her mouth.
"I love you too."

You could not believe your eyes.
The second youâd read that text, youâd convinced yourself youâd imagined it; blinking rapidly, rubbing at your eyes, even pinching yourself because there was just no way heâd actually texted you. Even if it was from an unknown number, it was clear who it was â seconds after bumping into him, him rudely blaming you and then calling you by that god-awful nickname, you get a text right after?
With the same nickname?
Yeah, it was clear who it was.
The past two days alone have been more than confusing. If it wasnât Sukuna cheating on you, it was Geto suddenly acting like he cared about you even though for as long as youâve known him, heâs done nothing but ignore you. And if he wasnât ignoring you, he was glaring at you; giving you those eyes that made it clear what he thought of you. You were oblivious and you werenât as dumb as you came across, it had been abundantly clear to you that Geto didnât like you and even more, he probably thought you were pathetic.
And now? Now you had Gojo Satoru texting you? And why? Because youâd accidentally bumped into him in the hall? When, really, if anyone bothered to ask you, youâd guarantee it had been him whoâd walked right into you â couldnât a guy see when a girl was upset and needed a moment to herself?
Clearly, Gojo couldnât.
The worst part was that Sukuna cheating on you seemed like the least shocking thing and that in of itself just seemed so cruel. It wasnât like you werenât aware â Sukuna treated you horribly. Sure, you were positive that at one point he really truly had liked you and maybe there was a way to get him to again, but that didnât erase the fact that for the past few months heâs been nothing short of terrible to you.Â
Dismissive of you, blatantly ignoring you, you canât count on one hand how many times heâs laughed with his friends at you when youâve wanted nothing more than him to defend you or at the very least comfort you.
So, yeah⌠him cheating on you? Wasnât all that surprising. And youâre still not really sure how to feel about that.
Your mind is a jumbled mess throughout the entirety of class that you barely pay attention. When the teacher calls for lunch, youâre blinking yourself out of your stupor, jumping in your seat as everyone around you excitedly packs up their things. You probably look like an idiot sitting there watching everyone, stunned, face red when you realize you did not listen to a single thing your teacher was saying, until a hand falls on your arm.
Your eyes meet Shokoâs concerned ones.
âY/N?â
You feel a buzz from your phone in your back pocket and the stupor is quickly replaced by anger.
Thereâs no way Iâm letting him get away with calling me âsweet cheeksâ.
You push yourself to a sudden stand, startling Shoko who lets out a tiny shriek in response, head jerking back to avoid being smacked by yours. Then, youâre grabbing your backpack and promptly turning around, making your way towards the door with a determined expression.
All while Shoko gapes at you; âY-Y/N?!â
Youâll apologize later but you donât have time to answer her distressed call. The second youâre outside the class, youâre pulling your phone from your pocket, glowering as you read the text.
Ignoring me? :(((
âJerk,â you mumble to yourself, fingers moving quickly to reply.
Where are you?
And the reply comes almost instantly.
Why? Already missing me?
Jesus. What an egotistical guy.
Shaking your head, you focus on replying.
Just tell me where you are.
Your finger taps impatiently on the side of the phone while you wait.
In the hall outside the cafeteria.
The second you read those words, you start walking. Students eye you weirdly as you walk by, sending you confused looks and mumbling to each other in wonder of what your problem is; youâre not even aware that youâre practically stomping through the halls, footsteps echoing with each step you take. It only takes you three minutes before you spot Gojo, easily identifying him by his bright white-hair that sticks out like a sore thumb against all the blacks and browns.
Heâs already looking in your direction the second you turn down the hall, and your glare darkens on the smirk on his face.
The second you reach him, you go to tell him off, but he cuts in before you can;
âNot gonna lose your footing this time because of how dashing I am?â
And his words are so shocking to you that you completely lose your train of thought, blinking as your lips part in disbelief and you gape up at him with your mouth left wide open. Gojo lets out a loud laugh in response to that, head thrown back in amusement as you feel your face burn.
âWh-What!â You practically cry, âyouâre the one who bumped into me! And I didnât fall because of how you looked! I fell because you slammed into me!â
Raising a brow, Gojo simply crosses his arms over his chest and leans against the wall, the smirk on his face never faltering.
You huff; âyouâre infuriating.â
He snorts; âI've been told.â
Shaking your head, you focus on the reason why you wanted to see him in the first place. âHow exactly did you even get my number, by the way?â You ask, holding your phone up for emphasis as you tilt your head at him accusingly. âAnd I want a real answer.â
Shuffling on his feet, Gojo shrugs; âjust asked someone from my class. Some girl.â
Pausing, you sigh; âpeople need to learn not to just give my number out to anyone,â you mumble to yourself, annoyed. Gojo watches you with a raised brow and amused glance, enjoying the way your face twists expressively while you talk to yourself.
Then, your eyes focus back on his. You try not to lose your train of thought when you remember just how blue they are.Â
âWhatever,â you brush off, lowering your hand. âJust donât call me âsweet cheeksâ and donât text me either.â
âBut why else would I have got your number?â Gojo asks, the question is genuine.
You just stare up at him. âFine. Donât text me unless you need something,â you concede before lowering your gaze. Your voice lowers and Gojo smiles as you start mumbling to yourself once more, moving to pocket your phone away. âAlthough, I donât know why you would need to text me in the first place sinceââ
You halt at the feeling of a hand around your wrist, stopping you from putting your phone away as you stare up at Gojo in disbelief, lips left parted. He doesnât bother to explain, simply using his other hand to pull your phone from your grasp and turn it towards him. You watch him with a stunned expression, mind not working quick enough to even ask him what heâs doing because all you can focus on is the way his fingers had felt against the skin of your wrist. His grip was so gentle, even if it had been enough to halt your movements, and his fingers were smooth and long.
The touch had sent shivers down your spine.
âThere,â Gojo calls, smiling brightly as he turns your phone screen towards you. It takes you a moment, blinking, before you realize what heâd done.
Heâd added himself as a contact, naming himself; Satoru <3
First name too?!?!
âThat way you always know itâs me.âÂ
You flush, body jerking as you snatch your phone from his grasp, shaking your head. âWh-what! DonâtâŚ! Donât just add a heart next to your name like that!â
âWhy not?â Gojo asks, face in a pout as he genuinely asks you like he doesnât understand. Your frazzled movements halt when you realize, arms falling to your sides with a huff before his pout is fading and being replaced by another shit-eating grin. You watch as Gojo goes to grab his own phone from his coat pocket, opening it and tapping at a few things before turning it to show you again.
There you see the both of yours short message threads before your eyes wander higher and then you see that heâs added you as a contact on his phone as well.
AndâŚ.
Sweet Cheeks <3
That was it. You were confident. Youâre going to kill him.
You feel hot and you know you probably look like a mess, wide eyed and lips parted once more as you turn to look at Gojo. Of course, heâs smilingâbecause why wouldnât he beâand looks completely unbothered by it all. In fact, youâd reckon he even looks proud of himself.
But yet, when your lips part to argue, you find no words to say. You know youâre embarrassed, a little peeved at the annoying pet name, but you think about the way his hand had felt on you and the way that despite how he was too cocky for his own good, you liked the thought of having him as contact in your phone.
Even if that was the name heâd given himself.
Even if that was the name heâd given you.Â
And even if there was a heart next to both of your names.
Shoulders falling, you submit; âfine,â you huff. âBut just donât think this meansââ
âY/N.â
You halt, instantly recognizing that voice.
You miss the way Gojoâs eyes zone in on your reaction, shoulders tensing and the expression on your face turning just slightly afraid as you let the words youâd been about to say disappear. The air suddenly grows tense, or maybe youâre imagining itâyouâre not sureâbut you feel your body stiffly moving to turn, meeting Sukunaâs eyes from across the hall.
His brows furrow when he meets your gaze, eyes hardening at the sight of Gojo behind you.
âWhatâre you doing talking to Gojo?â
You freeze, and you realize somewhere distant you should say something, but you donât know what.
Then, an arm falls around your shoulder and a weight is pressed against your back.
âWe were exchanging numbers,â Gojo calls out with a singing voice, lips stretched into that familiar wide grin. Though, and you think you might be imagining it, you swear it seems a bit more tight and forced than it had before. âIsnât that right, Y/N?â
You donât miss the way he calls you by your first name.
Sukuna doesnât either.
âUh⌠y-yeah,â you force out, letting out an airy laugh that sounds more like a cough than anything.Â
Sukunaâs face hardens, but the anger in his eyes is passing. With a simple shake of his head, he brushes off your words, before focusing back on meeting your gaze; âcome on, Y/N. Letâs have lunch together.â
Oh.
Oh.
Thatâs right.
Maybe he will again.Â
Youâd been trying to win back Sukuna. Sukuna, your boyfriend. The boyfriend that had cheated on you with a girl who has had it out for you since middle school⌠Sukuna, whose hands have never felt as warm as the way Gojoâs had against yours just a few minutes ago; nor as soft, nor have they ever made you feel the way Gojoâs had.
âYou should break up with him.â
Eyes squeezing shut, you force yourself to block out Getoâs words.
No, this was just silly. Youâd already decided â you were going to win back Sukuna and that was that. Getoâs words didnât matter and neither did Gojoâs hands; it was all just silly distractions youâd let yourself sink into because of your hurt.
You wanted to be with Sukuna and you wanted to win his feelings back.
And here he was inviting you for lunch. Youâd be stupid to pass up the opportunity.
Swallowing the lump in your throat, you nod, gently shrugging Gojoâs arm off of your shoulder and taking a step forward. âOkay,â you call out sweetly, smiling at Sukuna, it strengthens the second you see Sukuna instantly ease at your agreement.Â
You offer Gojo a smile over your shoulder as you make your way to Sukuna, ignoring the frown on his face as you wave.
Then, you beam up at Sukuna.
He glances at Gojo behind you for a moment longer, before meeting your eyes. You try to make sure you donât smile too wide or obnoxiously, trying to make sure you look pretty, head tilted as you bat your lashes at him and reach for his hand.
Reluctantly, Sukuna slips his hand into your own, not bothering to return your smile as he leads you into the cafeteria.
-
You watch Sukuna and Mei Mei with a barely concealed frown.Â
When Sukuna had first invited you out, youâd thought he meant a date. Youâd practically squealed of excitement in your bedroom, kicking your feet before hurriedly getting ready. Youâd done your hair, made sure your makeup looked flawless, and dressed exactly how you knew Sukuna liked you to dress. The two of you hadnât been on a date just the two of you in a long time, and the last time youâd tried⌠well. It hadnât ended the way you thought you would.
Operation get Sukuna to fall for Y/N again seemed like it was going well if Sukuna was inviting you out for a date and you knew tonight was the perfect opportunity to up your charm and flirting to remind Sukuna why heâd asked you out in the first place.
Then, youâd shown up at the arcade only to see Sukuna already there with Mei Mei, Mahito and a few of his other friends.
And quickly, you realized your plan was already starting to be a complete and utter failure.
With nothing more than a simple âheyâ, Sukuna had barely acknowledged your presence nor had he tried to hang with you at all since youâd arrived. Youâd been here for an hour and the most attention you got from anyone was Mahito when heâd asked you if youâd watch his stuff for him; you believe his exact words had been âif youâre going to sit there like a loser all night, can you at least be helpful and watch my stuff?â.
So thatâs what youâd done.
Honestly, you were impressed you were as collected as you were. You knew you shouldâve just left, but the small hope that maybe Sukuna would notice you kept you there even as it got harder and harder not to cry. You didnât want to seem like more of a loser though, so you forced the tears back; trying to ignore the racing thoughts that ran through your mind as you sat there, all dolled up for a guy who didnât care about you at all.
You were starting to think youâd been wrong all along and maybe he never had.
Were you that undesirable? Youâd thought you were a good girlfriend⌠youâd tried not to be too clingy, even if Sukuna said otherwise and youâd always tried to help him and support him in anything he needed. You tried to wear the things he liked and get into the stuff he was interested in. You went to every one of his games and cheered him on every time. And yet, heâd only ever seemed annoyed at everything you did.
Maybe you were that undesirable.
Maybe youâd never realized just how annoying and insufferable you really were.
Biting your lip, you decide that thatâs all you can take for one night and if you donât leave now, youâre going to cry in the middle of this arcade and thatâll only fuel your embarrassment more.
With one more longing look Sukunaâs way, to which youâre ignored again, you move to stand, grabbing your purse and pulling it over your shoulder as you move to walk away.
Except, the second you turn, you bump aggressively into someone and something cold pours over you.
Your lips part, eyes widening as you realize that itâs some sort of soda, most likely coke, that is now seeping into your blouse and sticking to your skin. Gasping, you glance up to see who you bumped into since itâs clearly becoming a habit of yours, only for your embarrassment to deepen the second you meet a familiar pair of dark eyes.
Geto Suguru stands in front of you, looking just as shocked as you. In his hands is an empty cup, the lid now on the ground by your feet.
You stare at him for a moment before you hear laughter.
Itâs loud and piercing. Body stilling and muscles tensing, you glance over your shoulder only to see Sukuna, Mahito, Mei Mei and the rest of his friends all laughing at you. Mahitoâs got a hand pressed to his stomach as he doubles over in laughter, the look in Mei Meiâs eyes is nothing short of cruel and when you finally turn to Sukuna, you feel like your heart breaks a little.
Even though youâre not surprised.
Of course heâd laugh at you.
You canât stand to see the look on Getoâs face, already knowing what he must be thinking, as you quickly shove your way past him. Your feet work quickly to make your way out of the arcade, not hearing the sound of your name being called as you feel your eyes finally well up with the tears youâve desperately tried to hold back all day.Â
The second youâre out of the arcade, it all becomes too much.Â
You donât care at that moment that youâre no more covered than you wouldâve been inside the arcade; itâs better than crying in front of Sukuna and⌠and Geto.Â
Pressing your hands to your face, the reality of everything catches up to you and a sob pulls past your lips as your shoulders shake. Youâre cold, sticky, youâre pretty sure your blouse is now see through thanks to the soda that had spilled all over you and youâre standing outside an arcade crying because of your boyfriend who cheated on you.
Everything was just so cruel.
You stand there for a moment more, lost in your own world you donât hear the ding of the arcade doors open behind you or the footsteps that follow. It isnât until something warm falls around your shoulders do you finally look up, turning your head to the right and blinking at the sight of Getoâs concerned eyes staring back at you.Â
âAre you okay?â He asks gently, voice soft in the mix of silence and your sniffles. âI didnât mean to spill my drink all over you like that.â
Swallowing thickly, you brush the tears on your cheeks, confused; âwh-what?â
âYou ran out so quick,â he continues on, moving in front of you to grab the hoodie heâd draped around you and pull it tighter around you in the front. You watch as his hands reach for your own, taking your arms and tugging them through the sleeves of the hoodie before zipping it up until it hits the bottom of your chin. âIâm sorry I ruined your shirt.â
Youâre stunned. Confused. You hadnât expected him to run out after you nor did you expect sympathy. Sure, you didnât know Geto that well, but you didnât expect him to apologize for spilling his soda on you, especially when you bumped into him, nor did you expect him to give you his hoodie to cover and warm yourself up.
You stare back at him blankly.
Geto frowns at the tears in your eyes. âIgnore them. Theyâre idiots.â
Heâs gesturing behind you at the arcade â to Sukuna and the rest of them.
You donât glance back. You donât want to see them still laughing.
âWhy⌠why are you here?â You ask, voice small.
âI was babysitting,â he explains, âbut their parents picked them up just before I bumped into you. I was⌠actually going to talk to you when you stood up suddenly.â
Oh. So thatâs why heâd been right behind you.
âIâm sorry I bumped into you,â you mumble, selfishly enjoying the warmth his hoodie gives as you hug yourself. âAnd split your drink.â
Geto shakes his head. âYouâre the one that got covered in it.â
And oddly, the comment makes you smile. Youâre not sure whyâmaybe youâre losing your mindâbut the way he says it so nonchalantly pulls a smile to your lips and a snot-filled giggle that is anything but attractive and youâre too upset to even care.Â
Geto just laughs at himself; âyou think itâs funny my drink spilled all over you?â
Meeting his eyes, you shrug; âI dunno.â Then, faltering, you glance at your feet. âI didnât before. But maybe a little now.â
âWell⌠good,â Geto shrugs. âIt was a little funny if Iâm being honest.â
And the smile on his face tells you heâs just joking.
âShut up,â you laugh.
An air of silence falls over the two of you then, and you shuffle on your feet.
âIâm gonna go home now,â you point to your left, the direction youâll be walking. âIâll wash and return your hoodie on Monday. Th⌠Thank you for giving it to me.â And you smile warmly, wanting him to know just how much you appreciate the favour.
Getoâs smile fades as he blinks down at you.
You offer a small wave and move to walk, but then a hand catches your arm.
Surprised, you glance back at Geto.
âIâll walk you,â he offers.
Your eyes widen. âOh! You⌠you donât have toââ
âItâs okay,â he assures, somewhat urgently. âI donât mind.â
âOkayâŚâ you say slowly, not seeing the point in arguing. Besides, not walking home alone in the dark seemed like the better option anyway and if he was offering⌠still, why was he offering? âBut⌠why?â
âBecause,â he shrugs once more. And he hesitates and your heart twists because you donât know if you can handle the answer if itâs because he feels pity for you.
And then he just smiles and itâs soft and gentle and it takes your breath away as you stare up at him.
âItâs late.â

Hi đđ
I dont typically send asks, and especially not without being anon. I am a mostly silent participant on tumblr and I have been for years. But I have to say something
It is so refreshing seeing big pro pjo posters able to criticize Riordan. I am not sure if this is just in my little corner of tumblr and maybe other people can tell me if it is the same for them but as far as I can see, you and lilislegacy are the big pjo posters on here. Is that just my dash? But I feel like mostly everyone in the tumblr fandom knows you guys, though I have known about you for longer. And when the book came out and I saw all the issues I fully expected everyone, especially you guys, throwing your full support behind the book and Riordan. So I cant tell you how happy I am that you are calling him out. The post you made today about not understanding why he is making Percy dumb again is so true! Itâs not ok because self deprecation shouldnt be glorified. When he wrote Percy has a powerful hero, nobody was upset about it. Adult readers loved how much he had grown and kid readers looked up to him and found it exciting. In the last PJO book and in all Heroes of Olympus Riordan made Percy strong and heroic in addition to kind and funny, which made people happy. It made kids want to be like that. But now these kids are reading about him being so mean to himself. This is not okay! This should not be the example! Kids should not be reading that itâs ok for your friends and loved ones to treat you like an idiot. Riordan should be continuing to write about Percy growing up and maturing and becoming a good man who is content with who he is, not becoming more immature and more self deprecating and treated worse by his friends.
Sorry, I didnt mean to go off. But I just think its refreshing and brave how you are calling him out, no matter how much you have praised him and his books in the past. This fandom is dangerously loyal to him, and it quickly can become toxic and problematic when no one can criticize the author himself. So thank you for what you are doing. I admire it a lot and I hope you keep it up to some extent because we need it so bad
@lilislegacy if you want to add to this, feel free <3
Thank you so much for reaching out, and for being so kind! I hold the series in such high regard, so critiquing it makes me so nervous, especially since my blog is fairly well-known throughout the fandom. I really do love the series and I stand by the fact that there is so much good to come from the recent books, but with that comes some not-so-good. The consistent mockery of Percy's intelligence, the satirical characterization of Percy and Annabeth, and the seeming erasure of certain character and story arcs in the recent books are disappointing, and I enjoy having the space to express my opinion. While I have such love the series, I am open to having respectful discourse about Rick's recent writing choices, and I will engage in more in due time. Thank you again for your kind words and support!

With Moxxies origin, wouldnât it have made more sense if Moxxie just lied about his home ring? This would explain why he didnât fit in with the wrath imps in harvest moon and wasnât used to the culture. It would also have more impact to find out he lied to Millie of all people, because it makes you wonder, âwhy would he do that? He trusts Millie.â And while Millie is upset and questions it, Blitzø understands. A turn around of the usual dynamic.
Moxxie: Oh no, no, I hate this place. I grew up right over there.
Blitzø: I thought wrath was your old stomping grounds Mox?
Moxxie: Shit, busted. Okay. I havenât been honest. This may be hard to believe, but I didnât grow up on a ranch in the wrath fields.
Blitzø: Thats actually not hard to believe. I get it. Iâm a greed imp too. Not the prettiest place.
Moxxie: I didnât know that.
(After meeting Crimson)
Millie: Mox, why did you lie to me about where youâre from, and how come I havenât met your Pa before?
Moxxie: I just donât like to talk about this part of my life. Iâm ashamed of the things that happened here. Iâll explain everything later Millie.
(Maybe you could add Blitzø telling Millie that some people arenât proud of their families or where they grew up. This is something Millie struggles to understand, since sheâs so proud of her own.)
I feel like there are ways to make new ideas fit with your story, and if they have an obvious inconsistency at first, you can adapt that into characters voicing the same confusion and questions the audience may have. Then just provide an in-universe answer. Book no more explanatory Twitter threads needed for your show.
Donât just throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks. Or less graphically, donât paint a wall green then later touch up the paint with blue and call it the same colour. Paint it turquoise.
It makes sense that Moxxie would lie about his home ring since he changed his own name just to hide from it. And that twist even makes the story and conflict better. At the dinner table Millie might even bring this lie up, having Crimson use it to try and drive a wedge between them. Because what else is he lying about? Same with Blitzø going to wrath after leaving Verosika, but in the next episode say to stolas that hes never been there. Both cant be true.
This episode just missed so many marks. On paper, Crimson and Chaz are a good dynamic duo of villains, one serious and dangerous, the other the less scary comic relief. You could have kept Crimsons scene very dark and serious, then after it ends and he goes upstairs to bed, Chaz does the dumb dick jokes. You keep Crimson as a threat, and keep the silliness you wanted, just keep that part focussed on Chaz. Thatâs what a comic relief is.
I just feel like the show needs consideration of its audience. There are ways to resolve plot holes by adapting the story slightly, even use them to create new reveals and new conflict.
There are absolutely ways to resolve plot holes by adapting the story slightly and ways to paint a green wall turquoise and all of this other extremely good and actionable writing advice. Unfortunately, Viv's solution to writing dilemmas is a mixture of "Do whatever and let the fandom harass anyone who points it out" and "add more rape."

A Lost Boys Incorrect Quotes Post to Christen My New Blog
Adult! Alan: Sam and I are engaged. Lucy: I really wished you would have asked me first, Alan. Adult! Alan: I'm sorry Mrs. Emerson you aren't really my type. - Star, referring to David: I wouldn't say they're friends so much as ex-covenmates. Michael: No, its true. We're friends. Star: He eats people! Michael: Well, people are complicated. - Paul, staring at a corpse: Now, I'll tell you one thing. You are not looking for a vampire. Adult! Detective! Laddie: Why do you say that? Paul: All that blood? No self-respecting vampire would waste all that sauce. - Star: I wanna show you a picture from last night that really upset me. Marko: Okay, but in my defense, Dwayne bet me 50 cents that I couldn't drink all that shampoo. Star: That's not what I wanted to- you drank shampoo? Marko: What? No. - Michael: I will not be using a loophole, David. As always, I'll be using the main hole or no hole. I choose no hole. Marko: You just said "hole" way too much, Michael. David: And that's coming from Marko. Michael: Yes, that's concerning. - Star: I just want someone to take me out. Paul: Like on a date or with a sniper? Star: Surprise me. - David: Michael? I'm breaking up- Michael: I'm pregnant! David: ...I meant the phone. Michael: Sorry, I panicked. - Star: Are you taken? Yes bitch, taken for granted. @kryptojuice - David: Don't you carry a hair dryer in your purse? Star: Have you ever met a human woman? David: Dwayne? Do you carry a hair dryer in your purse? Dwayne: Of course, I'm not an animal. - Paul: Everything's gonna be fine. Star: You think that because you love me, and love has made you dumb. Paul: I disagree. If anything, love has made me smarter. Remember last week when I boiled that egg? Star: That was big. I was really proud of you. - David: What's the first thing you notice when a man approaches you. Star: The audacity. - Marko: So, I'm just gonna grab a healthy breakfast. David: Are those gummy bears wrapped in a fruit roll up? Marko: Breakfast burrito. Yeah. - Michael: I apologize, mother, for David's actions. Something I find myself doing quite frequently. - (When Michael loses Sam on the boardwalk) Michael: have you seen my brother? Michael: About 5'3", blonde hair, green eyes. Michael: Clearly, gay, but we haven't had the talk.

Alexa, play Hey, Jealousy
This whole scene, Kang is obviously feeling jealous, because Pimfah is listing reasons why she likes Sailom. But! It easily reads as Kang struggling to confront the truth of what she's saying. Because he knows all these things about Sailom, he feels the same way about him, but he hasn't allowed himself to contextualize those feelings as "why I like Sailom".
That reality is why Kang is struggling to maintain his friendly interaction with Sailom after.
This is pretty straight forward jealousy.
Except that Kang got more upset when Sailom said that he pushed him to the cheerleading thing so that he could have a shot with Pimfah.
Kang thinks he's upset because Pim likes Sailom, but he's also upset because if Pim likes Sailom, then obviously Sailom will date her, she's great, but then Sailom will be dating her. And those feelings are very big and very confusing. Which we see here:
For Kang, Pim and Sailom dating was the logical conclusion. Sailom is a great guy, and Pim is the best, of course they'll get together.
When they don't, it's a threat to the narrative he's created, where he's jealous of Sailom, not because of Sailom. Where he can put everyone and all his feelings back into little boxes if his two friends just get together like they should. Where he can deal with the blow to his plan to give his dad what he wants, and marry someone who can give him kids, if everyone would just behave like they're supposed to.
This one is... this is the start of Kang figuring his shit out.
Guy literally rips Sailom away from Kang, and Kang can't even argue that Sailom is his friend, too, because he's very much not been a friend to him, and Sailom is actively keeping his distance.
Kang arrives with breakfast excited -- his body language is a little nervous, but almost giddy as he runs up the stairs with that cautiously optimistic smile. He's ready to mend fences and probably apologize, and reestablish their friendship (and ignore Sailom's confession, because Kang is Not there yet).
And there's his future best friend in law Guy, taking care of Sailom the way he wants to be, and he's hurt, but he's also angry that he's missed his chance. This is where he's fully aware of the cause of his jealousy.
THEN! THIS!
THIS BEAUTIFUL SCENE!
Kang's friends are sure he's upset about the seniors being shitty to him and not acknowledging his contribution to the game. They're offering reassurances that he's earned his spot, but Kang hears none of it, because all he can see is Sailom hugging and congratulating Guy, smiling and being happy with Guy.
And here's where it all solidifies.
Where "Sailom works so hard, and he makes me feel like I should work hard, too" and "she likes you (why does that make me so mad)" and "I like you" and "he's my friend" all coalesce, and Kang gets it.
He understands that what he's feeling is romantic interest. That he needs to fix what he broke right now.
Of course, he's still 17/18 and dumb, because what he opens with is this:
Which like, yeah baby, we know. But that's not the important information from that little revelation. And Sailom, bless his little angry gay heart, rightfully responds with "And? Who tf do you think you are?"
Kang is clearly struggling. Struggling with Sailom's anger, and with finding the right thing to say that will appease him and also be true-- the thing that will quiet the screaming in his heart, because big feelings are not his forte.
And then Sailom deflates a little, and says "Please, can you just tell me?" and asks tiredly if he's somehow made Kang feel guilty again (because why else would Kang be there, there's nothing between them, right? They're not friends, Kang just feels guilty about how he's treated Sailom, right) And then, Kang knows what to do.
(it's also Very Interesting to me that in an episode that told so much of its story in flashback montages, the one that we get right when they kiss is "I used to hate it, but I think I'm starting to like it", because despite everything, Kang has never hated Sailom. Dude has been obsessed from the start)
Anyway, this was going to be a funny post with just the pictures of our boy being jealous, and then figuring out why, but obviously I'm not normal about them and this happened. *shrug emoji*

â¤ď¸ Loved By You â¤ď¸
Summary; Eddie's ghost haunts Hawkins, Lovers Lake, The Hideout, the benches in the woods near Hawkins High, and especially the Trailer Park.
All your life you've heard of the poor souls who died in Hawkin's earthquake of 86.
Most passed on, Eddie wasn't so lucky he's been stuck in limbo for thirty-four years, fading in and out as time passes, trying to find companionship but failing.
That's until he meets you.
Love transcends death and happy endings can happen even when all hope seems lost.
Warnings: Angst with a happy ending. 18+, minors dni. Soulmate au
I don't give anyone permission to copy, repost or reuse my work.
If you enjoyed this pls consider reblogging, etc. It's much appreciated. â¤ď¸
I hope you all enjoy it, it's a long fic and I hope you all love it as much as I do. â¤ď¸â¨
â¤ď¸
All your life you had heard about the great earthquake of 1986 that happened in Hawkins.
Every year the town held a vigil for those that died, your best friend's parents Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington held a special service along with Dustin Henderson and Robin Buckley for one person in particular.
Eddie Munson. The ghost of Hawkins, an urban legend whose name was whispered about by adults and whose legend was infamous.
Once accused of killing three high school students from Hawkins High, those of whom were in his (third) senior class.
Until Jim Hopper, Hawkin's most famous sheriff for a whole lot of things, the most amazing being coming back from the dead- or escaping the prison he was held at in Russia.
Anyway, Jim had cleared Eddie of any wrongdoing after his death, in fact, according to Dustin, and many others he had died a hero, helping save others during the earthquake.
Dustin told a lot of stories about Eddie, you'd heard a few when you hung out with Alice, it was bittersweet though because you could see how much pain it caused Dustin to talk about Eddie but he said he had to talk about him because he never wanted Eddie's memory to be forgotten.
You wondered what Dustin thought of the Urban Legend regarding Eddie's ghost. Over the years many people claimed to see Eddie, some were stoned, drunk or a little bit of both.
Others were curious, trying to find out if the tales of Eddie's ghost were true. Double dares to go deep into the woods and call out his name, mentions of the faint sounds of a guitar playing when everything was silent at The Hideout, the cave in Lovers Lake was a hot spot for activity too.
Some part of you yearned to know if it was true, even though the logical part of your brain dismissed it as nothing more than an urban legend.
Plus, you had seen how upset the rumours made Dustin, how much he hated that his friend was used as a laugh for dumb teenagers and even some adults looking for a scare.
Unfortunately, as much as you didn't want to entertain the rumours, some people were all for finding out if the ghost of Eddie Munson was real or not.
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Todd Carver was your ex and to say he was a dick was an understatement. You had dated him for two months and grew tired of his arrogant and boastful demeanour.
Graduation was fast approaching and you wanted more out of life than Todd and his asshole tendencies.
It was just your luck he was still part of your friend group however you did your best to avoid him.
He had been trying to get you to date him again but you just weren't interested.
You hear him goading someone and your stomach fills with anger when you notice its Dustin's son Ben.
He was exactly like his dad, you were very protective of him and follow Todd as he and his friends Calvin and Sam push Ben into the woods.
You can hear their laughter and it infuriates you.
"Come on dude, call out for Munson, didn't your daddy give you Eddie for a middle name? Talk about morbid man"
"Shut up" Ben snaps and you hear those morons laugh again as they tease Ben.
"Leave him alone!" you march up to Todd and he snorts.
"Come on Babe, we're just messing around" you glare at him. Steve said he was like his Uncle Jason in miniature, he didn't like to speak ill of the dead but apparently, Jason was an asshole, Todd was just like him.
"It's not funny Todd, Get lost asshole" Todd snorts.
"What? we just wanna know if Eddie Munson's ghost is real or not? What's wrong with that?" he replies innocently but his eyes are full of malice.
He imitates a ghost and at that exact moment, a branch falls and hits Todd, leaves fall on him and his eyes widen in shock and a small hint of fear.
"It's Munson! Let's get out of here" he rushes away with Calvin and Sam at his heels.
Ben smiles, relaxing as he watches them go.
"Thanks for helping me" You ruffle his hair and tell him to get back for his last lesson.
As he heads away you turn to look at the fallen branch and leaves and frown curiously. There's no wind? Was it an old branch or something else? Something spookier?
Then there's a voice behind you and you freeze on the spot.
"God, that Todd dude was a dick right?" when you turn around he's standing near the benches, arms folded across his chest.
His hair is wild, dark brown and long. Big brown eyes filled with annoyance, some of his tattoos visible and he's wearing a Hellfire t-shirt and jeans just like you saw in the pictures Dustin has on his mantelpiece.
What the fuck.
"He's related to Carver? Can spot that asshole smirk anywhere" Eddie grins at you.
"Shit, you're really... I thought you were a myth or some urban legend passed around by stoned guys and campfire tales" he snorts.
"I'm as real as it gets princess... The smile falls away from his lips, still very much dead though, which is shit"
You sit down on the bench feeling a little bit dizzy, you can barely believe what's happening.
"The branch" you ask faintly and he smiles, it's heart melting, all dimples and a hint of cheekiness.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. Just that dick Carver. You dated that douchebag? Could do a lot better princess" you stare at him still processing everything.
"How did you know that?" he shrugs and sits beside you, the temperature drops a little.
"I'm a ghost, I hear all kinds of shit. Disappear for weeks on end, then come back again. It's confusing being stuck in this limbo world"
"I'm sorry" you reply feeling his sadness so acutely that it takes your breath away for a second.
"It's kay, not your fault. It's nice sticking around sometimes, even if I can't do much. Haunt the dickheads that come out here sometimes though the bullying little shits, keep track of Hellfire Club which is cool, amazing how massive it is now" he looks so proud.
"I know Dustin, Steve, Nancy, Robin. They've told me all about you. You died a hero" he gets up and smiles faintly.
"Decided to stop running, sometimes I wonder if it was sheer stupidity more than bravery"
"Bravery, not stupidity" you assure him and there comes that dimpled grin again. It makes you feel out of sorts, tingly.
"Must have been an awful earthquake" you sympathise and Eddie nods wincing.
"Yeah, was more concentrated on dying at that point though" this confuses you and you say so.
"It wasn't the earthquake that killed you?" he stares at you puzzled.
"No, it was the bats that killed me' he points to the tattoo of the bats on his arm. Ironic right?"
Wait... What?
"Bats?" his eyes widen.
"Shit you don't know?" he cringes and then turns on his heel and disappears. You call him back, curiosity piqued.
What the heck didn't you know? What was going on? More importantly, you just talked to Eddie Munson.
It's a thought that should terrify you but it doesn't and you find yourself anxious for the chance to speak to him again.
â¤ď¸
Eddie must be as curious about you as you are about him because he appears again at the edge of the woods while you are talking to your friends.
Anticipation fills you and you want to talk to him so badly, quickly.
You're a little breathless as you catch up to him and sit on the bench.
"Can you tell me what you meant about the bats, please? If you're okay to talk about it. I understand if you don't. The memories must be awful" he pauses for a few seconds then nods.
"Okay, I'll tell you but be warned. This shit is crazy. You might not believe me" you pay him rapt attention.
"Try me" and with that he begins to tell you everything.
You just talk a lot, he opens up about what really happened in Hawkins in 1986 you're stunned and have so many questions.
Demobats, Vecna, The Upside Down, The Mindflayer, The earthquake that rocked Hawkin's was caused by Vecna killing four people, their friend Max was the last death and it literally opened the gates to hell, where The Upside Down bled into Hawkins.
There was a massive group in Hawkins including Dustin, Nancy, her brother Mike, Steve, Robin and a super powers girl named El that fought against the monsters.
The evil was defeated but Max passed away and that caused a huge fracture in the group as well as Eddie's death.
"Sucked watching all the shit going down, doing my best to help when I could. When I wasn't vanishing for months at a fucking time" Eddie murmurs and his tone hurts your heart.
"Thank you for telling me Eddie. I really appreciate it" he offers you a warm smile and sighs as he looks to the darkening sky.
"You should get home, it's been hours" the darkened sky surprises you and you swear.
"Shit. Dad is going to be so pissed" You gather your things and Eddie clears his throat.
"Can I see you tomorrow sweetheart?" your heart melts at his hopeful expression and you find yourself aching to see him too.
"Count on it" you assure him. He sticks around to make sure you get to your car safely, he's gentlemanly and it's so sweet that you are smiling all the way home.
â¤ď¸
Even though you are still stunned about talking to a ghost you enjoy talking to Eddie, you talk a lot about many things and even though he disappears sometimes he always comes back.
The time between his disappearances begins to shorten as he mentions to you one day.
It's the first time he appeared outside your window you were just in your nightie and it was kinda cute watching Eddie stammer out his apology and turn around while you pulled on your robe.
If he could blush you're sure he would.
"Come in" you call to him and it's still pretty cool watching him go through things. He's beaming, something has made him happy and it makes you smile too.
That cute grin of his is infectious.
"The disappearances are shortening princess. It's like an hour now compared to hours or even weeks before we met"
It's amazing this is happening because you miss Eddie like crazy when he isn't around.
"This is amazing" You reach out without thinking and grab his hand, you except to feel cold, nothing at all.
Instead there is only a tiny chill as your fingers interlace through his and he is gazing at you in shock.
"You can feel me?" he whimpers and you nod tightening your grip on his hand as he squeezes your hand back, both of you are at a loss on what to say but it's also so wonderful what happened that you're both grinning at each other in a happy bubble.
â¤ď¸
Betty stares at you curiously as you doodle in your notebook, you don't mean to but you're doodling Eddie's name in little hearts.
Fuck. Over the weeks and weeks you had been getting to know each other, his form more solid with each passing day you're feelings are deep and growing by the day.
The truth was you were in love with Eddie.
"You've been lost in thought, daydreaming and smiling to yourself. What's going on? Are you in love with someone?" she asks excitedly.
Your heart speeds up but then comes crushing heartache and tears spill down your cheeks.
"It doesn't matter. It can't ever happen" she looks so confused as she rushes to comfort you.
"I don't understand honey" she wouldn't be able to.
How could you explain that you were head over heels in love with a ghost?
đ
It was a quiet night. Just you and Eddie. His body so close to yours, you bridge the tiny gap between the two of you and lay your head on his chest.
He feels so solid so real and for a few precious seconds you forget that you don't hear his heart beating. That it can never beat. All that matters is that Eddie is here with you.
That's until your doorbell rings and you groan getting up, you can hear that its Todd before you even see him and feel pissed. What the hell did he want?
You open the door just wanting to get this over with.
"Babe! It's been weeks and weeks. Graduation is next Friday! I've been super patient but when are you going to take me back?" you gape at him.
"Uh, how about the first of never? We broke up for good Todd because you're an arrogant bully" he looks stunned for a second.
"This is bullshit! You've met someone else haven't you" There's a shadow upstairs near your room, it's Eddie.
He's protective and you know he won't take Todd shouting at you lightly. However you're well versed in dealing with this dumbass.
"It's none of your business. Go away, Todd. You and I are never going to happen again" he scowls and reaches towards you to grab your arm.
"What are you doing! Let go!" his eyes darken and your heart sinks but then he comes to when you wrench your arm away and he snorts.
Then the next second he's literally flying out the door and lands right on his ass outside. You slam the door shut and head back upstairs knowing Eddie is annoyed.
He is quiet as you head into your room, still fuming that Todd thought you would ever want him back.
"Of all the arrogant, conceited assholes" you huff and you turn to Eddie who is resting on your bed his face blank.
"Eddie?" he gets up, he looks so tense and you move closer to him and gently take his hand.
"Eddie?" he turns to you and he looks forlorn, it makes your heart ache so deeply when he hurts, you hurt.
"What's wrong? Is this about Todd? I don't want him back. You know that right? He's such a douchebag and... He turns away and when he turns back to you his gaze is cold.
"Yeah, he's a dickhead but not every guy you meet will be. You'll find someone special, look at you. You're amazing, sweet, kind, beautiful" his words warm your heart and yet you still feel anxious.
"I don't want some guy. I... You're all I think about Eddie" It's the first time you've admitted out loud even though it's been obvious between you two for a while now.
He shakes his head, his eyes shining but his face set and angry.
"You can't sweetheart. I'm not even here, not really. You can feel me and I can feel you, yeah but it doesn't change the fact that I don't even have a fucking heartbeat"
"It doesn't change the fact that you have no future with me"
There's silence and he begins to fade.
"Please don't go" you beg and he smiles sadly.
"I can't be selfish sweetheart, you deserve someone real, someone who can be with you properly, that can't happen while I'm hanging around. Goodbye princess, thank you for making me happy for the first time in thirty five years" his hand gently strokes over your cheek.
"No, no" you beg but he disappears completely and he doesn't come back, not even for your heartbreaking calls.
Even if it breaks the heart that no longer beats inside of him, he knows he has to stay away.
â¤ď¸
It's been a week since Eddie left, sometimes you think that you catch a glimpse of him out of the corner of your eye, smell his cologne when you wake up in the night but it's all just wishful thinking you realise.
You can't even explain to anyone why you're heartbroken, you feel so alone.
Graduation passes by and while you're happy that you and your friends will be together at the newly built Hawkins academy, there is still a heaviness in your heart that is left by Eddie's absence.
For a second you swear you see Eddie at the edge of the forest but he's gone the next second and you're sure much to your disappointment that you imagined it.
He really wasn't coming back. The thought broke your heart all over again.
â¤ď¸
The next night you find yourself wandering around Lovers Lake. All your friends are here and it's a massive party for all seniors.
As they party you head off on your own and find the cave that Eddie supposedly haunts, you just want to feel close to him for a little while.
The tears you've been holding in since yesterday fall and you cry it all out, all the heart ache and pain.
"Please don't cry," you think you imagine Eddie's voice but when you look up he's watching you, he looks agonised.
"What are you doing here, I thought you were staying away?" you wipe your eyes and stand up shakily. He swallows and moves closer to you.
"It's hell. Like a physical constant ache, it never goes away, the longing to be with you. When I'm not with you I'm in agony. Didn't know being dead could hurt this much. Hurt even worse than when I died"
Your whole body shakes with tears.
"I feel the same way, it feels like I can't breathe Eddie, it hurts so badly" he reaches out to you and his hand rests on your cheek.
"How can I stick around though? I'm just keeping you from moving on, finding someone who...who can really be with you" he spits out the words, the devastation in his eyes breaks your heart.
"This isn't fair. Life sucks ass you know that?" this brings a smile to his face and you cuddle into him, then you peer up at him.
"I love you Eddie, I'm in love with you" his expression changes, it's like happiness radiates from him and it fills your heart with joy.
"I love you too sweetheart, I'm so in love with you" his lips meet yours and you kiss passionately, pouring all of your love for each other into the kiss.
The kiss is incredible, perfect. You kiss for what seems like hours until you slowly part, Eddie's lips press to your forehead.
Then something weird happens, and Eddie's eyes widen. He stares at you for a second and whispers "Princess"
Then he's just gone.
â¤ď¸
Eddie expects to disappear and then re appear within an hour or so.
Instead of an hour it's barely a minute and something feels wrong. One minute he's in The Upside Down and he's bones and dust, the next minute, as if by magic he can feel his body coming back together, bones forming once more, skeleton then his body piecing itself back together, he opens his eyes and he can hear the most wonderful sound that he's heard in thirty five years.
The sound of his own heartbeat. He can't even comprehend how this happened. How he is alive once more.
Maybe magic did exist? If those creatures, the demobats, MindFlayer, Vecna and another dimension under Hawkins then who's to say that magic wasn't real?
A miracle had happened that's for sure. Tears burn in his eyes and he knows so much has changed over the years, his friends are grown up, his uncle an old man.
And yet he was given a second chance, another chance at life and he wasn't going to waste a single second.
At first he's unsteady on his feet, he cuts himself some slack. Shit he's been dead for so long.
Somehow though he gets out of the cold desolate world of the destroyed Upside Down.
He crawls his way out of hell and into the light.
â¤ď¸
It's a couple of hours later, you're at home and the sun is beginning to rise. Bird sing fills the air as sunlight fills your room.
That perfect kiss with Eddie fills your mind. Was it a goodbye kiss? Something didn't feel right when he disappeared and it's troubling you what it is.
"Princess" you peer up and Eddie is at your window, you race over to open it and he comes in.
"I thought you were gone" tears blur your vision and you throw your arms around him.
It takes a second for you to realise that he's warm, so warm, Eddie smiles through tears as he says something to you.
He's beaming, absolutely radiant, his whole body is solid and through your haze of tears you hear the words he's been saying to you.
"Princess, listen" he places your hand on his chest and you lean in close.
Thump, thump, thump.
You can feel the steady thump of his heart beat. It's the most beautiful sound you've ever heard.
"How?" you're barely able to gasp out and he shakes his head, he has no idea either.
"After our kiss, I woke up in that place, everything was desolote and there was barely any sign of an exit but I crawled my way out of where my Uncle's trailer used to be" he closes his eyes.
"I was down there in the upside down but then I got to the surface, I could feel the sunlight, hear birds singing and could feel my heart racing, by some fucking miracle I was brought back"
"I've been given a second chance to have a new life, connect with Dustin and the others, spend my life with you if you'll have me, you're the woman I want to spend my life with" you kiss him elated.
"Yes, yes, yes. I'll be by your side through all of it Eddie". His eyes darken in a delicious way that makes your whole body tingle.
"There's so many people I want to see but first I really want to spend the morning making love to my girl. Does that sound good to you Princess?"
"Yes", you manage to say as his arms wrap around you pulling you close to him.
For the first time you make love, feeling Eddie's body close to you, the way he makes you feel is everything.
Mind-blowing orgasms sweep over you both but the absolute best part is when you cuddle into his arms sleepy, when you wake up he's dozing peacefully, there's a smile on his face and you sigh content as you rest your head against his chest.
His heartbeat lulls you back to sleep once more, a smile on your face as you slumber.

Hi. Many fans disappointed with new chapter. I see many complaining. I am more pissed because of Bakugo.
I am now sure that in next chapter Izuku will be catched by Ochako or sonehow Shigaraki give Izuku OFA back or his original quirk. Dont know.
How do you think DFO will be revealed then Shigaraki and AFO destroyed? Both spirituality and phisicaly.
Well, its no wonder people are upset after that shitfest of a chapter. That propably was the most anticlimactic final bossfight I have ever seen in a manga and after all the talking how izuku wants to safe tomura, dude just dies and izuku is fine with it. He just failed his attempt to save the person he wanted to save the most, but hey I guess the fistbum makes up for it (it does NOT!) Im actually curious how the japanese fanbase reacted to all of that.
I mean, of course hori had to force bakugou in it for a final time. Hes his golden baby boy afterall. Izuku cant do anything without bakugous or other peoples help. He is not allowed to shine on his own in his own fight against the main villain in HIS story. Nope, bakugou needed to help to give the final blow to afo TWICE, because HE is the true VIP of mha! I have actually seen quite a few bakugou fan who were not happy about it. If even his FANS complain about how forced and unnecessary that part was, maybe hori should ask himself if his staning for that one specific character is not going a little bit to far. I mean, seems like we just were all dumb. At the beginning of the story we were told izuku is a useless loser because he cant do anything without the help of others and in the end it turns out it was true. How could we not see that comming? The mc was not allowed to defeat the main villain himself and needs others, espicially his abuser to help him. Wow, what a great message! And the most depressing point is that hori was clearly trying to make that look like a positiv thing. There is one thing I can say for sure. I will never touch any work from hori ever again.
If this was really the conclusion of the final fight, then congratulation hori, you managed to write a more rushed and horrible conclusion for your story, then tite kubo did with bleach (which to be fair was not kubos fault but shonen jumps). Hori did literally EVERY SINGLE character except bakugou dirty and in the end even startet to write against his own established themes in the story.
Regarding dfo: I already mentioned it a few times in the past. Im still positiv dfo is canon BUT I also said I dont think anymore that dfo will end in a satisfying way. Which actually goes against what hori said, that readers wont feel dissapointed when he reveals hisashis true identity. But, right now I dont see how hori plans to manage that even with a twist. Even if lets say the clone theory ends up true (which would be hilarious because I was JOKING when I came up with it), it still would feel like so much wasted potential. And the thing is, while it would make me happy if it turns out true I would still be mad about all the rest hori fucked up which would make it impossible for me to enjoy the dfo reveal. And as much as I love dfo, if it turns out the afo clone theory is true and hisashi is the real afo who gets a happy ending while tomura stays dead and doesnt get one after everything afo did to him and the rest of the lov stay miserable too, I will still give hori the middlefinger. The only way I would be able to enjoy it is if hisashi ends up as the afo clone who choose a different path then his original body. It would still make dfo canon just in a unexpected way and it could be interesting to see in hisashi that afo COULD have been happy if he had choose a similar way.
I dont know, maybe in the end there is really some kind of twist involved. Shonen jump still hasnt announced that mha will end in the next few chapters and normally they do that at least 5-10 chapters before the final chapter. Maybe we are just panicking over nothing and hori has everything planned out perfectly. Maybe there is more to come. We really cant say for sure. There are still some plots who need answers and I cant see how hori wants to conclude everything in just 2 more chapters. On the other side this final arc was horrible rushed, even more horrible written and all in all a big dissapointment and waste of a lot of peoples time.
Who knows maybe thats why there is a break next week. So hori can wait for the reactions of the readers and include whatever twist he may think could work.

am i the asshole for still wanting my plushes back?
the people involved in this story are me (currently 22m, he/him), and my sibling J (currently 23nb, they/them), and this story happened while we were children, couldn't be older than 7 or 8. i am also autistic, and have very strong attachments to objects, especially plushes, so keep that in mind.
so J and i are not blood related, they lived in an awful situation with their bio mom and grandma until they joined my family when we were about 3 and 4. i think of them as my real sibling, and we are pretty close now, so this is pretty low stakes overall.
because of the neglect and spoiling that their previous caretakers raised them with, the first few years J was settling into our family were difficult, to say the least. they were super fussy, materialistic, and downright mean and entitled. i know this is a cruel thing to say about a mistreated child, especially since they are not like this anymore and regret it now, but it was true at the time. i was a very social and cheerful kid, and i had an older sister too, so i knew better how to treat other kids. i was really gung ho about having a new sibling, and wanted to make friends with them right away, but they did not share that sentiment.
one game i really liked to play (that definitely sparked my love of escape rooms later in life) was a clue-trail scavenger hunt thing where you would follow the clues one after another and eventually find the prize at the end. my parents set up a few of those for us over my childhood, and i got fascinated with it and wanted to set up them up for myself.
i tried multiple times to get J to play my scavenger hunt with me, since i was proud of the hiding spots and the rhymes i wrote on the clues, but they were very icy to me and often refused any game i wanted to play.
so i got an idea, to entice them to play, by making some of my pokemon plushes the grand prizes at the end of the hunt.
now you have to keep in mind, this was the mid-2000s, these pokemon plushes are choice collectors items and they do not make them like this anymore. and after a generous birthday gift from my aunt when i was maybe 6, i had a bountiful selection of them, that i knew J was bitterly jealous of, and sometimes would try and steal.
so i knew this would work as a carrot to get them to play with me, and it did! but they were only playing so they could have the prize, so every time i wanted to play again, i would have to offer up another one of my plushes, and eventually i ran out of all the ones we agreed were good or interesting, and now as an adult, the few i have remaining from my massive childhood collection are the ugly ones, and it makes me really sad to see how gutted it is from its former glory.
over the years, we've gotten a lot closer and J's nasty childhood attitude has all but disappeared, and i feel safe saying we're besties and get along fantastically.
i asked a few times as we got older and i remembered this occurance if i could have the plushes back, though, and they've always responded with a vehement No. they say i gave it to them fair and square, and they consider them a gift from me. i've tried pointing out that i only did it cause it was the only way i could get them to play with me when we were kids, and i kinda regretted giving away such valuable things when i was too young to really think about it. J always got upset at that point and said they didnt like thinking about how they used to be and it wasn't fair that i brought that into the conversation.
i 100% see how i could be the asshole here, since i did technically give the plushes to them, but i still kinda think its not fair of J to not even consider giving some back, because i was a dumb kid who just wanted to connect with my mean sibling. i try not to bring up how they used to act anymore, though, because i can understand how it hurts them to think about, but it is relevant in this specific situation.
i haven't asked them for the plushes back in a long time, but i was thinking about it again. and this is pretty low stakes, it wont ruin our relationship or anything, so tumblr, aita for still thinking J should give them back?
What are these acronyms?

Isabela headcanons
Â
Isabela BelĂŠn Rojas Madrigal. Born 7th of August 1928
Â
Childhood
Was the golden child since her birth. Obviously, she wasn't forced into perfection since day one, but still was favourised for being the first grandchild.
Isabela said her first word when being babysat by Pepa and Bruno. Pepa called her brother "dumb". Isabela had repeated. (Can you tell me Pepa wasn't crying from how proud she was?)
Extremely stubborn. You couldn't make her stop if she wanted to do something. No matter how many candy you'd give her.
Used "I'm older so you should listen to me" card all the time. Especially when it came to her sisters.
Friendly teased Luisa for being younger. It didn't happen with Mirabel much because Isabela was busy exploring her cool new gift when she was born.
Was fascinated with flowers. Enjoyed making flower crowns even before getting her gift.
She was slowly rising in perfection even before Mirabel's ceremony. But it wasn't very obvious. Failed ceremony just made the process way faster.
Â
Adult years (pre-movie)
Â
Enjoyed reading about various plants. Could easily give advice about any plant. Did anyone used it? No
Actually pretty good in sport. Had won several award in school, mostly for gymnastics. Probably the second most sportive Madrigal after Luisa.
Made flower crowns manually in her room as a way to distract herself and calm down when she was overwhelmed.
Started to date Mariano because she didn't want to upset him or Abuela. Mariamo was the one to confess his feelings (ableit to his Abuela), Alma didn't set them up.
Had thoughts of running away several times to escape perfectionism and always felt guilty for it.
Started to have gray hair at the age of seventeen. Always styled her hair the way when it would be hidden. As Isabela thought it wasn't perfect
If she has to go on a date with Mariano, she'll try to get them to the meadow. There Isabela could at least withness a beautiful nature.
Disliked Mirabel because felt that her sister wad getting everything without an effort. And was jealous of the fact that their parents were closer to Mirabel. Isabela didn't realize the full extent of how her actions hurt Mirabel too.
Had nearly no relationship with Luisa, taking how busy they both were.
If anyone dared to misgender Dolores, even prior WECID, they would wake to see their house wrapped in roses. Thorns work just as good as cacti.
Post-movie
Changes her dress every odd day. Coloring it, cutting, whatever she can think off. Girl knows no consistence. Her favourite colour also changes constantly. Today it's sky blue, tomorrow will be green and yesterday it was gray.
Same goes for her hair. She regularly paints it. And don't forget glimmering silver! She doesn't hide it anymore.
Julieta cried when she saw Isabela having gray hair. Because it made her realize just how much she had grown up
Experiments with herself all the time. How else should she find herself?
It took her a while to get comfortable with showing her true self to people outside of the family. Sometimes she still wonders if others actually like her.
Grows avocado around just to add it to her food. She's allergic to avocado.
Adds milk to people's coffee just for the sake of it. Only drinks cafĂŠ con leche with an extreme amount of sugar.
The biggest drama queen you could meet.
The favourite niece to both Bruno and Pepa.
The most talkative and outgoing out of her sisters, won't shut up if you say a word about plants and will spend hours talking on it.
Protective. Will join Luisa on fighting whoever had insulted their sister/cousins. If not fight all by herself of course.Â
Relationship.
Alma: Has a bit hard time with her post-movie. Doesn't hate her grandmother and probably still close to her, but does have troubles with expressing herself to her for the first few years. Eventually gets over it and starts to show her messy side in all its beauty.
Pepa: They are very similar. Isabela adores her TĂa. Pepa probably often joins to gossip with Isabela and Dolores. Both are emotional and very dramatic. Pepa also helps Isabela with expressing her emotions via plants with her gift. Same way the weather express her emotions. .
Bruno: Isabela likes her TĂo. But feels awkward around him for the time being. The last time she saw him was when she was eleven. And he was barely socialising even back then.. She likes him. And Bruno seems to understand her pretty well, as he was the favourite back in his youth too. She probably the first one ut of grandkids to be comfortable around him.
Julieta: Likes her mother, but they aren't overall close. Isabela is an adult, and way more active and crazy than calm and responsible Julieta.
AgustĂn: Closer to her dad, expessially as she doesn't smell like flowers all the time anymore. But the thing of being an adult is still in work. It's easier to open up to her TĂos rather than to her parents.
FĂŠlix: Cool but pretty distant.Â
Dolores: Best friend since childhoodâ˘, gossip about everything. Isabela was the first person Dolores had confessed her feelings for Mariano after the engagement failed. Attached to the hip and together almost all the time. They were close even when both still were involved into the whole thing with Mariano.
Luisa: Grew closer as both became free from expectations. They like to tease eachother and playfully fight (which is usually Isabela trying to hit Luisa and Luisa blocking her). Isabela uses her muscles as a pillow whenever she wants. Luisa pays the favour by using Isabela as an armrest.
Camilo: Arguing and competitive relationship. Both are active for the sake of being messy. Probably will fight eachother just for the sake of it. Isabela was very jealous of Camilo and found him annoying pre-movie (even more than Mirabel). She still thinks Camilo is annoying but enjoys messing with him.
Mirabel: Now both are pretty cool. They still argue from time to time, but it's never even half as bad as it used to be. Mirabel encourages Isabela from time to time, and Isabela looks after her sister especially when Luisa's not around. Both try to make it up for all the problems in their relationship
AntonĂo: Wasn't close to him before, giving an age gap. Now adore spending time together as two the most passionate about nature. Isabela often takes AntonĂo out to show him wild outskirts where he can see many animals
Nicknames:
Isa (by Mirabel, Luisa, Dolores, AgustĂn and FelĂx)
Bela (By Dolores, Luisa, Camilo, Julieta, Pepa, Alma and Bruno)
Hermanita (By Luisa when Isabela annoys her. Or when she wants to annoy Isabela)
SeĂąorita Perfecta. (Mirabel when Isabela annoys her. Other grandkids as a joke. Isabela herself when she refers to her old self)
Mi Flor (Alma, rarely her parents)

We Love Steve Part 2
Steve got up shortly after Eddie left. And would have sneaked away if it wasnât for the message on the door.
âGone to Hellfire Club, be back later. I know you. Donât you dare leave until I get back. Iâm serious. I will hunt you down.
-Edsâ With a little doodle of a devil sticking his tongue out.
He let out a little laugh. He had to admit that maybe Eddie did love him. He had been so shocked by the confession...Steve was so sure that it had slipped out accidentally. But Eddie had meant it.
And he loved Eddie, loved being with him, he made the buzzing in his head distant. Almost quiet.
He was wondering if he should go back to the sofa or go lay on Eddieâs bed when the door opened to reveal Eddie coming back.
Steve blinked. âEddie?â
Eddie flashed him a smile. âYou werenât thinking about going anywhere, were you, big boy?â
Steve blushed and shook his head, holding up the note. âI know better than to disobey my boyfriend.â
Eddieâs face lit up and a small smile found its way to his features. âGood.â
âI was just trying to decide, sofa or bed,â Steve said softly.
âBed,â Eddie decided immediately. âWe both need rest after the night we had.â
As they lay there comfortably, Steve in Eddieâs arms, he murmured. âIâm sorry I ruined your guysâs game.â
âItâs okay,â Eddie said. âIâll make it up to them next Saturday. I just couldnât concentrate knowing you were here by yourself.â
Steve kissed his cheek. âThanks.â
Eddie kissed his lips and Steve melted.
Eddie caressed Steveâs hair until the boy had fallen asleep.
*
Max waited until everyone was settled before she spoke.
âRight, hereâs the detz,â she said. âSteve thinks that he stops giving us rides to basketball or to the movies, or anything like that, weâll stop calling him.â There were a lot murmurs, but she held up her hand. âJust wait, it gets worse.â
âWorse?â Dustin croaked.
âHe also thinks that if he stops letting us have parties at his place, weâll stop calling,â Max continued. âAnd then thereâs the real kicker. The one that upset Eddie so much that he couldnât concentrate.â
âMust be bad,â Lucas said. And everyone nodded.
Max pursed her lips. She wasnât exactly sure how to say it. âSteve thinks heâs too stupid for us to want to hang out with him and that we wouldnât if he hadnât saved our lives.â
The room was dead silent for the longest moment in Maxâs entire life, before the room exploded in protests.
She let them go on for a bit before she calmed them down.
âBut none of thatâs true,â Dustin said, tearing up.
Will shook his head. âWhen was the last time we had a party that wasnât at Steveâs?â
Everyone looked at each other, begging for someone to say something that was at least recent. But no one could come up with anything.
âOr when was the last time we invited Steve out to movie or to go to the mall and didnât make him drive?â Max asked.
âBut he has the biggest car, next to Eddieâs van,â Mike complained.
âSo?â Lucas asked. âYouâre parents have a pretty big car, Nancy could drive us. But we never ask, because we assume Steve will just agree to it.â
Mike looked down, disgruntled.
âEveryone calls him stupid or dumb, but is he really?â Erica asked.
Again they all fell silent.
âHeâs really good at tactics,â Dustin murmured.
âHe figured out the song at the mall,â Erica mentioned.
âAnd then thereâs how many times heâs hit his head,â Will said softly. âThatâs bound to have caused problems.â
âAll the times heâs protected us,â Dustin agreed.
âSo are we all in agreement not to call Steve stupid, just because he isnât book smart?â Max asked.
Everyone nodded.
âBut what about the rest of it?â Lucas asked. âWe have to do something nice for Steve, show him that we do care. Because Eddieâs right. He does so much for us, but what do we do for Steve?â
âWhenâs his birthday?â Erica asked.
Everyone looked around.
âNo one knows when his birthday is?â Max asked incredulous. âNot even you, Dustin?â
Dustin shook his head. âIâve never really thought about it.â
âNancy might know,â Mike muttered. âIâll go ask.â He got up and went upstairs.
âThis is a bad start,â Will said. âIf we donât even know when his birthday is. He knows all of ours.â
Mike came down the stairs a few moments later. âNo go, guys. Nance doesnât know either.â
They all stared at him in shock.
âWould Robin know?â Lucas asked. He was starting to get desperate now.
Max shook her head. âI doubt it.â
âShit.â
It didnât matter who said it, only that everyone agreed.
âEddie?â Dustin asked, raising his head. âCause even if he doesnât know, it wouldnât be weird for him to ask.â
Max nodded. âI know Steve works tonight, so Iâll head over to Eddieâs and let him know the plan. And if itâs already past, then weâll just throw a surprise party for him anyway. We donât need a reason. But his birthday would be a good excuse.â
âIâll ask my mom if we can have it here,â Mike said from the bottom of the stairs.
Everyone nodded.
âMaybe we can get Gareth and Jeff in on it,â Erica suggested. âHave it be after a D&D session. Invite Robin and Nancy, maybe Jonathan and Argyle too. So that when Steve comes to get Dustin and Will we can surprise him.â
âEl, too,â Mike added. Erica nodded. Â
âAnd they can park at our house,â Lucas added. âWeâre just around the corner, everyone can walk over so Steve isnât spooked by all the cars.â
âLooks like we have a plan,â Dustin said.
âNow all we need is a date,â Max said.
*
Eddie and Steve were lying in bed that night, cuddled up together.
âIâm still sorry about ruining your game yesterday,â Steve said. He had come over after work and had flopped face first onto Eddieâs bed, completely exhausted.
âDonât be,â Eddie said. âYou have been holding that inside you for so long, it was only a matter of time before it exploded. Iâm just glad it was at me and not one of the kids or Robin wouldnât have been able to handle it.â
Steve just buried his head further into Eddieâs shoulder.
âRed stopped by, theyâre all really worried about you,â Eddie continued.
âI never intended to be a burden,â Steve murmured.
Eddie twisted his body so he could look Steve in the eye. âYou arenât. What you are is too stubborn to ask for help and let me tell you as a former member of that club, itâs shitty place to be.â
Steve sighed. âIâll try to ask for help more often. Iâm just so used to not having anyone around to lean on.â
Eddie knew that the Harringtons were never home, he just never realized how badly it had warped Steve.
âWell you have me now, darling,â Eddie said softly, kissing the top of Steveâs head. He paused. âYou know what I just realized, I donât know when your birthday is.â
Steve groaned. âNo one does.â
That brought Eddie up short. âWait, no one? As in none of your friends in the history of ever, no former girlfriends, none of the kids know? Not even Dustin?â
Steve just shook his head.
âWhy?â
âItâs on a holiday.â
Eddie frowned as he tried to figure it out. âLetâs see. Itâs not one of the holidays that are different every year, because then it wouldnât matter most of the time. Itâs not Christmas, you love Christmas.â He tapped his finger on his lips.
âOh I know!â he said excitedly.
âDonât say it,â Steve murmured.
âItâs Halloween!â
Steve got up and drew his knees to his chest. Eddie forced himself to sit up too.
âThatâs why you hate Halloween. Itâs not because itâs spooky or whatever itâs because itâs not an âappropriate Harrington birthdayâ, is it?â
âYeah.â Steve buried his head in his arms.
âWell itâs a good thing you have a boyfriend that loves Halloween and can make it extra special for you,â Eddie said with a grin.
âYou donât have to,â Steve murmured to his knees.
âWeâll just have to see about that...â Eddie said. And tackled Steve back to the bed tickling him until Steve begged for mercy.

Audio Drama Sunday!!!
Again this is far from comprehensive because I am a feral podcast monster, but hereâs what stuck out to me this week! Mostly spoiler-free, unless you count vibes as spoilers!
đĄď¸ Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later managed to have a happy? Ending? Honestly the way it managed to be a hilarious historical sitcom with an ending that chilling was MASTERFUL. Great job writers, yâall are fantastic. It is obviously not absolutely true to what we know about Roman history, but it is true to the spirit of it in a way thatâs really satisfying for me personally.
đŚ @thesiltverses oh MAN. The way this story says again and again that you cannot earn your way out of being trampled by a system that doesnât care about you hits every. Single. Time. And what are you going to do, try to remake that system? There are always going to be people who canât handle that and fight against you, to their own detriment. This story is fantastical and exaggerated, but itâs always so real at the same time.
đď¸ @hellofromthehallowoods is trying to kill me, straight up. I have no idea what Halloween will bring for this show and iâm dying. Itâs very difficult to predict storylines on Hallowoods and thatâs something I love about it. Will this pair break up? Will this pair die for their cause? Will this pair find each other again, even through death? Shoutout to the great guests this episode, I always enjoy seeing who Mx Wellman invites into the world.
đ @knovesstorytelling okay look, yâall, I have never read Northanger Abbey, so I donât know why Kitâs being told to pack her bags and get out, and I am so UPSET. Whatâs going on????
đ Within the Wires is back!! And my WORD, the juxtaposition of this season being motivational tapes while listening to the current season of The Dream about life coaches?? I am transfixed and horrified, letâs GO.
đď¸ @longcatmedia Mockery Manor. I love these clowns so much. I love that Bette is really smart and really dumb at the same time. Everyoneâs acting is top notch, but Iâm especially a fan of Karim Kronfli in this show. Everyone knows heâs got the range, but itâs so fun listening to him be this fussy little guy.
đť One of the shows Iâve been catching up on is Ghosts in the Burbs, a deceptively spooky and delightfully witty single-narrator ghost show. Iâm listening through the Lilith arc andâŚ.woof. WOOF. I know how it ends and itâs still terrifying.
𩸠ITâS HEMOPHOBIA DAY, omg, everyone please check out Hemophobia, I am so excited for Hemophobia. Itâs sitting in my queue staring at me with that creepy-ass logo art. Iâve talked with CSW about this show and heard the trailerâreligious trauma horror with amazing sound design and an amazing cast??? You kidding???? I am drooling over here. Join me, wonât you?
đ§ââď¸ This week is also the premier of The Dead! As soon as that feed appears Iâll be putting it everywhere, and Iâm so excited to show everyone the first series. Youâve heard of snakes on a planeâŚ.
đ On my end, as Re: Dracula continues its march to the finale, this week I find myself recording Inn Between and The Dead. I am still trying to make rent ahead of my new jobâs first paycheck, so if you liked this post or the other things I do, would you consider sending me a ko-fi?
Now if youâll excuse me, I will be listening to Hemophobia very quietly and very scared by myself in the dark. Until next week!

I Donât Know Which Wayâs Home
Chapter 1: The Reveal
ao3 link
September 1986
Julie slams the door shut when she comes home, she doesnât mean to, most of the time. But today, she really does. And the hinge is already broken so what harm is it really going to do? So she ignores the comment her mom makes about it and does it again with her bedroom door, hearing the slam vibrate the walls of the trailer.Â
Sheâs just so sick of it. Itâs like every single class decides to do some stupid project that just makes her stand out from the beginning in front of kids who might not already know. Not like anyone does. Everyone knows everyoneâs business in this town, and Julieâs family situation is no different.Â
The problem today, was the beginning-year project her Spanish teacher assigned. A family tree, something simple to introduce yourself to the class and to see what you remembered from the last year. The only problem is, Julie is always missing half a tree.Â
Her father has been a void in her life for its entirety. Thereâs no face to the name, and no name to even put a face to. Her mother wonât tell her anything, not even a peep. The most she knows is that he was a mistake her mom made for a few months that ended as soon as she became pregnant. Which translated into Julieâs mind that she was an accident. And with how their situation turned out, she couldnât help but believe it was true.Â
So when sheâs reminded of the fact that her existence on this Earth is due to one of her motherâs flings that never lasts a year, she gets to slam a few doors. She gets to play the Iron Maiden tape she found on the ground one day at full volume without complaint. She doesnât even like it that much, but it was free and loud enough to match the screaming that was going on inside her head.Â
Thatâs the worst part, with how angry she can get about her family situation, she can never be mad at her mom for too long. Not after everything sheâs done to make sure Julie had a good life. Not a perfect one, but one where they at least had a roof over their heads and werenât living on the streets.Â
Itâs bad enough that her mom had to work two jobs just to get them by, she didnât need to deal with all of Julieâs problems on top of that.
âWould you like to tell me why youâve just permanently broken the front door, or am I supposed to guess?â Her mom says after coming into the room without knocking and turning the music down.Â
Julie grunts from where her face is dug into the pillow. Hoping that it was enough to make her mom leave, but it never was.Â
âCome on,â her mom gives her a soft shove. âYou donât get to barge into the house and break a door without explanation. Whatâs up?â
âWhat up is a stupid Spanish project,â Julie complains angrily as she rolls onto her back, glaring at the ceiling. âItâs a stupid family tree where I know Iâll be questioned on it in front of the whole class, again, on why I âfailed to include my dad on the treeâ. Like I would fucking leave him out on purpose.â
She feels the bed dip as her mom sits on the foot of it. âIâll let that slide this time because youâre upset.â
âYeah, I am. I just am so tired of explaining it in every single damn class I seem to have that he just left and I have no clue who he is. They donât have a right to my life and I donât need the pity looks they give me once they figure it out. And whatâs worse is that everyone in the class already knows except for the teacher, so dumb Billy Johnson will start snickering or some shit, and then Iâm the kid without a dad all over again.â
âBullies really need to get some new material,â her mom jokes without hesitation.
Julie snorts. âTell me about it. â She gets softer, already feeling the anger start to dissipate. And when it does, all that is left is the gaping hole in her heart that she knows will never be filled. âI donât even care that heâs not in my life anymore, I accepted that he wouldnât be a long time ago. I just want to know who he is. Why Iâm here. Why you wonât tell me anything about him.â
âI just donât think-â
âOh just save it mom, Iâve heard all the excuses. Iâm not a little kid anymore who writes that her dad will want to know her in her Santa letters anymore. I know he doesnât give a shit about me, I just want to know who. I deserve to have a name to not give a shit about either.â
Her bed rises again as her mom leaves, turning the music back to full volume and shutting the door softly behind her. Julie rolls back over, pulling her blankets over her head, and starts to feel like shit again.Â
Itâs not just the fact that she doesnât have a present dad that bullies love to tease, there are more kids than youâd expect with only one parent. Itâs that her mom wasnât married when she had Julie that was the problem. Unwanted pregnancies are like drugs for small towns, they spread like wildfire. The second the neighbor saw that her mom had a significant bump, it was everywhere. And then the kids heard it from their parents at every school function.Â
Itâs all, âOh poor Julie Lawson, her mother couldnât keep a boyfriend long enough for her to have a real dad.â Like they have the right to comment on Julieâs family. Or her mom. No one does, not even her.Â
. . .Â
October 1986, Present Day
Steve walks in after his shift with two pizzas, a six-pack of beer, and Robin right behind him. It was Friday, which means that Robin, Eddie, and him shook off the kids for a night to watch a movie. Alone. They loved the kids but sometimes it was nice to have a night without chaos. Calming even.Â
Eddie wasnât coming over for a few more hours because of his band practice, so Steve stuck the pizzas in the oven so they stayed warm. Robin already makes herself at home, rummaging through the fridge to find something to drink and making a nest out of blankets in the living room when she does. Steve follows her, digging himself into the nest and putting something on the TV.Â
An hour or so later, he hears a knock at the front door. Robin gives him a concerned look as he leaves the living room to open it. Eddie had a key so he just let himself in, and they werenât expecting anyone else. And with their track record, it could go from random salesperson to world apocalypse pretty fast.Â
When he opens the door, a girl he guesses is around Dustinâs age is there, nervously playing with her hands, a backpack loosely thrown over her shoulder. âHi, sorry to bother you but, do the Harringtonâs live here?â she asks shyly.
âYes, Iâm Steve. Who are you?â There is a familiarity to her face that he canât quite place. Â
âSteve, right, he had a son. Sorry, this weekâs been weird. Iâm uh, my name is Julie. Your dad kinda knew my mom.â
He must have met her at one of his dadâs work events, that has to be why she looks familiar. âOh ok, did she have to drop something off here or something?â
âWell, kinda. But itâs not what youâre probably expecting.â She pauses looking unsure of what she is going to say next. âCan I- can I come it, you might want to sit down for what I have to say. Itâs kind of shocking.â
âIâm not sure, I donât really know you. Could you tell me who your mom is, maybe I can remember you then.â
She takes a deep breath. âWhen I said that my mom knew your dad, I didnât mean from work. Well, I did mean from work but she hasnât worked for him in over fifteen years, so I doubt youâd remember her. She was his secretary for a while, and they had a very,â she pauses again, looking around to see if anyone is there. âIntimate, relationship.â
The dots clicked immediately in his head, thoughts immediately started to run around about who this girl could really be. He thinks that her offer to sit down was probably necessary. âYeah, why donât you come in.â
âOk.â She steps through the doorway, waiting for him to lead her through the house.Â
He brings her to the kitchen, motioning for her to sit at the small table. Grabbing a few glasses, he fills them with water and brings them over, placing one in front of her. She thanks him, taking it and gulping it down with shaky hands. The more he looks at her, the more he canât help but see more and more similarities, just ones that remind him of himself.Â
âWho was it, Steve,â Robin asks, wandering into the kitchen. âOh shit, hi.â
âRob, this is Julie, her mom apparently knew my dad.â Steve makes a motion with his head to indicate how, hoping that she can read it right.Â
Her eyes widen in shock. âOh like, special knew. Like knew knew.â
âYes,â Julie says weakly. âYeah, they did.â
âOh shit,â Robin takes a seat next to Steve, her hand immediately finding his. It brings comfort, reassurance that sheâs there. He knew his dad was a piece of crap cheater, his mom certainly made it known during many of their screaming matches. But with the girl staring at him with the same eyes he sees every morning in the mirror, his brain canât help but jump to the conclusion that sheâs, something. And that just makes his chest tighten in anxiety.
âI, uh.â Julie starts, wringing her hand nervously again. âI donât really know how to say this gently. But, when my mom worked for your dad, they had an affair. It didnât last that long, but remember when I said my mom stopped working for him like fifteen years ago? It was actually seventeen because thatâs when she figured out she was pregnant.â
Steve feels a lump forming in his throat as she nods, trying to take it all in. âWith you?â he asks, not knowing how he is even speaking at all right now. Robin squeezes his hand.
Julie gives a small nod, looking down at the table. âYeah.â
âAnd my dad is-â he canât finish the sentence, but itâs answered by her sorry nod. âHoly shit.âÂ
He runs a hand through his hair, trying to wrap his head around everything. This girl, Julie, is his sister. Half-sister, whatever, it doesnât matter. Robin breaks her contact with him and goes to rub his back instead. His head falls into his hands propped up on the table and he just focuses on breathing.Â
âSteve, you ok?â Robinâs voice soothes him a little bit, but when your world just gets shattered, thereâs not much that can be done to help completely.Â
âI knew he cheated. I knew that. Itâs why my mom followed him around on all his trips. But he- he had a kid, and just hid it.â
âIâm sorry. I know itâs a lot, I have proof if you want to see it.â
Steve looks at Robin, asking her what to do with his eyes. She shrugs, her way of saying that it couldnât hurt. Probably is better that they have proof anyway, make sure this is legit. He nods, unable to say anything.Â
âCould we see it? Just to double-check everything,â Robin asks for him. God, heâs so happy that sheâs here. He canât imagine doing this by himself
Julie ruffles around in her backpack, random clothes peeping out as she pulls out a file. She opens it, pulling out two pieces of paper before going in again and pulling out what looks like a school ID. âHereâs my birth certificate and the paternity test. And my ID with my picture on it, so you know itâs me.â
The first thing he sees is his fatherâs name on the test results, followed by the line saying his relation to Julie is undeniable. That he was undeniably the father. The birth certificate only has the signature of her mother and the doctor, but the fatherâs name is absent. He ditched them, probably made her mom prove that this kid was his, and then just paid them to shut them up. His mom would never know, he would never know, and they never had access to any of his records.Â
Julie Rebecca Lawson, born January 28, 1970. He was three when she was born. Heâs had a sibling this whole time, and he didnât even know it.Â
âDoes your mom know youâre here?â Robin asks, softly.Â
Julieâs face visibly falls as she rapidly blinks away some tears. âShe- she died two weeks ago. Car accident.â
âIâm so sorry, Julie,â Robin reaches across to comfort her, but the hand she was going to grab gets pulled away. âWhoever is watching you then, do they know where you are?â
She sniffles. âIâve been staying with a foster family while they find a permanent placement. They donât really care where I am. My caseworkers were trying to find some family, but my grandparents are long gone and my momâs sister is in no place to take in a kid. So they were looking on my dadâs side.â She says the word dad as if they donât fit right in her mouth.Â
âI didnât come here looking for a place to say,â she continues. âRight before my mom passed, she finally told me about my dad. How he never wanted anything to do with me because he had a big reputation and another family. It was supposed to be a secret, but the more I thought about it, I couldnât help but think that you had a right to know. And then since she-, since I needed a place to stay, it was only a matter of time before you found out. I knew he was out of town so I thought it might be better to say it myself. Now Iâm not so sure that was such a great idea.â
âNo,â Steve finally says. âIâm, Iâm glad you told me. Youâre right, we, me and my mom, had a right to know. So, thank you.â He turns to look at Robin, her face shifting when she sees the panic in his. âRob, could I talk to you for a minute?â
She stands. âYeah. Weâll be right back, ok Julie.âÂ
Julie says a soft reply as Robin leads Steve to the living room. âI donât know what to do, Rob.â
âHow could you? You just found out that your dad had another kid. With another woman. And then hid it from you. How are you supposed to cope with that information?â
âI donât know. I have no clue what to do. But I canât-. Shit Rob, I want to help her.â
âSteve, you donât know her, at all. She just spawned on your doorstep not even an hour ago and just dropped the biggest bombshell on you since the, you know what. I get that you want to help her, I do. Shit, I do too. But Iâm just asking that you take a step back and think about this.â
Steve crosses his arms, pulling his eyebrows together. The decision was pretty much made in his mind, but she was right. âWhat if she stays the night, we sleep on this and get to know her more tomorrow. Then we can go from there.â
âOk,â she puts a hand on Steveâs arm. âThatâs a good plan.âÂ
Robin steps forward, pulling him into a hug before they walk back into the kitchen. Julie looks back up at them, uncertainty filling her face. It reminds him so much of himself it sort of hurts. âJulie, you can stay the night, if you want to. That way tomorrow we can talk some more, and get to know each other, figure out what to do about this. But I can drive you back to the house youâre staying at if youâd like.â
âCould I stay here, I really donât like it there.â The fear that coats her eyes with the mention only makes it worse.Â
âCome on, Iâll show you the guest room.â
Julie stands, grabs her bag and follows after Steve. When he shows her to the room, she stands in it like like she knows she doesnât belong. He canât help but think itâs not the first time sheâs felt like this, especially since heâs pretty sure she brought enough clothes for a few days in her bag.Â
He tells her where the bathroom is, where his bedroom is if she needs anything. She nods silently. The similarities between them keep coming in waves. Sure theyâre not like an exact match. But her eyes, her jawline, her hair, itâs ever so similar to his. If they were to walk down the street together, it would be clear that they were siblings.Â
The fact that itâs true just keeps shocking him all over again.Â
âYouâre welcome to anything in the kitchen, and thereâs plenty of supplies in the bathroom if you need any. I keep it all under the sink. And, donât be afraid to ask for anything, ok?â He stands there awkwardly, not quite knowing what else to do.Â
âOk,â she replies softly, placing her bag on the bed and pulling out some things.Â
When he shuts the door behind him, it finally hits. He practically runs back down the stairs to find Robin waiting in the living room, on the phone with someone.Â
âYeah, something came up and we canât do movie night anymore. No nothing bad, yeah no heâs fine. Iâm fine. Weâre all good, just a migraine. Yep. Iâll have him call you tomorrow. No, you donât need to do that. Ok, bye.â Robin turns to him when she hangs up the phone. âEddie, thought it was pretty clear that movie night was canceled.â
âYeah, no, it was. I-â the words get stuck in his throat. âI have a sister, Rob.â
Robin crosses over to him, pulling his fingers away from where they held his arms in a death grip. âI canât imagine how youâre feeling right now.â
âAngry mostly. How could he keep this from us, from my mom? From me? Do you know how many times I wished for a sibling, only for me to have one all along and just not know about it? And then she goes through life knowing her dad didnât want her. I canât begin to imagine what that is like.â
âPretty shitty probably. What do you really want to do about all of this Steve?â
He takes a deep breath. âI donât know. I want to help her, get to know her. But I-I donât know if I can do this.â
âShe wasnât asking you to fix everything. She just lost her mom, I think she just wants someone to lean on like that again.â
âBut what if I canât even do that?â
Robin gives him a soft look that he knows means heâs overthinking it all again. âLetâs go get some sleep ok. Weâll figure this out in the morning.â
They walk upstairs, passing the room that Julie is staying in on the way to his. He remembers being little and looking at the empty guest rooms in his house, wondering when people would come to fill them. Wishing that when they did, theyâd stay for longer than a week. Maybe then he wouldnât be alone anymore.Â
When he was really young, he would sit in the rooms and pretend that it was other kids that filled them. Brothers and sisters that he got to play with for however long he wanted to. His nights would feel less empty and during the day heâd be less lonely. Heâd be like every other kid on the playground with their siblings, pushing them on the swings and chasing them around the park. The house would be full of noise instead of deafening silence.Â
But that day never came. The years went on and he kept getting older. His mom went on more and more trips and then just stopped calling. The only time his dad ever called was after the police told him that heâd thrown a party. He used to just mess up just to hear his dadâs voice. Because then maybe he could convince himself that his dad cared for him. If you're disappointed enough to yell, that has to mean you care about something.Â
Most people say wait until youâre older and then youâll understand like itâs some kind of mystery that everyone cheers when you solve it. Not knowing that some mysteries only crush the people around them. Steve Harrington spent most of his life alone and it wasnât until he graduated and no one from his family showed up that he finally accepted why.Â
As he looks back at the guest room, he canât help but feel that part of himself get unearthed again. That sad little kid that begged for someone who he could grow up with. Knowing that was there across town all his life only makes him hurt all over again.Â
The urge to call his dad right then and there is strong. To scream at him for hiding something that he wanted for so long. Yell at him for being a piece of shit to not just him, but to his mom, and to Julie. He was used to his dad, no one else deserved to be hurt like he was.Â
. . .Â
Julie lays in a bed that is bigger than one sheâs owned in her entire life. Having one of this size would make it easier when she and her mom would share when her back was too sore after her double shifts to take the cot. The sheets are softer and clearly barely used, the fabric smells of fresh flowers.Â
Sheâs almost angry at all of this. That one person could have so much and be so cruel. That Steve got more out of their dad than she ever did. But one of them was wanted, the other clearly wasnât.Â
The word still feels weird in her mind. Their dad. She didnât even know the guy but she spent so long hating someone who was a dad to someone else. But by the lack of family pictures on the wall and the way Steve talked about him just briefly, it doesnât look like he was much of a dad to Steve either.Â
She wonders what itâs like to live in this giant house alone. The empty walls and rooms prepared for people but never filled. There were at least two living rooms in this house and a kitchen just made for a party. A house so perfect from the outside but so broken from within.Â
Steve at least seemed nice, even after she broke the news. Hell, sheâs still here, isnât she? In her mind, she was preparing for the worst. To be kicked out on the curb right after even implying that her father was just that, her father. Because a businessman with a poster family could never do anything wrong, could never be a terrible person who would have a kid and just abandon it.Â
But she was believed, and accepted. Allowed to stay the night in a house she always dreamed of living in with a family she didnât even know existed. She just hopes that in the morning it all wonât go to shit like everything else in her life seems to.Â
. . .Â
September 1986
Julie hears her mom call out for dinner from the kitchen. As much as sheâd like to still be angry, she canât force herself to avoid her mom forever. For what itâs worth, her mom is all she has in the realm of family and a friend. Thereâs no one who knows her like she does, and itâd just be cruel to let the pain of the past dwell any longer.Â
Except this isnât a pain of the past, not for Julie. Almost daily sheâs reminded that thereâs someone out there who doesnât care enough to know her, and that person is half the reason she exists. It seemed like everyone else in this town knew who their father was, even if they werenât around, except for her.Â
But she canât help but think about what her mom went through. How raising a kid on her own had to be, especially in a town like this. Someone she obviously cared about just dropping her after a positive test and leaving her high and dry. Life was hard, but she managed, somehow. Julieâs not so sure she would have in her position.Â
âI want to talk to you about something,â her mother starts once the table is cleared. She goes to sit back at the table, placing a folder on top of it. âWhat you said earlier, youâre right. You have a right to know who your father is, whether heâs in your life or not.â
Julie sits across from her mom. âI was just angry before, you really donât have to tell me if you donât want to.âÂ
Itâs a lie and they both know it.Â
âNo, you need to know. Thereâs going to be a point in the future where youâll need to know certain things, medical history and such. And there might be a day when his family finds out about you and comes asking for questions.â
âHis family,â she says shocked.Â
Her mom nods. âA wife and a son. He had both of them already when we were together.â
Julieâs entire world shifts. âWhat?â
âA year before you were born, I worked as a secretary for Richard Harrington in his business, well his dadâs business at the time. We entered an, inappropriate relationship, which ended up in you.â
âInappropriateâs one way to say it,â she jokes under her breath. âHeâs a big deal in town, Mom, his whole family is.â
Her mom nods. âIt was risky and stupid and I never should have done it. But back then, he was good at hiding what a terrible person he was behind his looks and his charm. It wasnât until you got to know him and got on his bad side that things went south.â
âSo, when you got pregnant with me?â
âIt went south, fast. I told him, he wanted you gone but I couldnât go through with it. So instead we came up with a deal. I prove you were his with a paternity test, and he gives me a monthly payment to shut me up. It wasnât a lot, clearly, but it would be enough to pay off the trailer in a few years and make sure we had money for bills.â
âIâm surprised that he gave you anything at all.â It really couldnât have been that much if her mom had to work two jobs just in order to scrape by.Â
âThe rich will do anything to keep a secret, including bribery. Everything you could ever need to know about him is in this file. With a copy of your birth certificate and the paternity test. Just so you have it. Iâm sorry I kept it from you for so long.â
She looks at the file in her hand. Itâs still pretty empty, but it has just enough. âI can see why you did. Itâd be worse for you for a kid to accidentally tell everyone their dad is a Harrington.â
âItâd be bad.â Her mom clears her throat, looking down at her hands. âI also didnât want you to think differently of me. I slept with a married man after all, for a year. Thatâs a pretty shitty thing to do to someone, even if you donât know them.â
âYeah, it is.â Julie would be lying if she said it didnât come as a shock, that her mom would do that. All this time she thought that her dad was some drugged-up guy that she hooked up with for a month or two before they stole all her cash and ran off. Thatâs who her boyfriends were in the past few years, so it wouldnât have been a surprise. But a married man, one with a kid, thatâs a new one. âDo you regret it? Sleeping with him.â
âAll the time, but then Iâd never have you.â She reaches her hands across the table and cups them around Julieâs. âYouâre my life, Jules. I love you more than anything, and I wouldnât change a thing if it meant never having you.âÂ
Julie puts a smile on her face. âLove you too, Mom. And thank you for telling me about this. Now I have a name to not give a shit about.â
âYeah, now you do.â
Her mom gives her one last smile before going to the living room and setting up her cot. Julie takes the file and heads to her room, shutting the door softly behind her.Â
She doesnât know how to describe what sheâs feeling. Like a weight has been lifted off of her but a new feeling of dread came to replace it. The name of the person who sheâs hated for so long is in her hands, and she doesnât know what to do with it other than hate him more. He had a wife, and a kid, a young kid, and he still went and had an affair.Â
When she lies in her bed, waiting for sleep to come, all she can picture is the face of the man who ruined not only one life but three. And while her mom isnât blameless, she canât help but think that there is more to the story than her just willingly sleeping with him. She imagines taking her fist and hitting him straight in his smug face. Once for her mom, and once for her.Â
