I know I keep saying this but I physically can't see him being anything but extremely proud of his partner and wanting to show you off at any chance he can, no matter how silent you are

If you're up to it, sit with him at meetings and follow him around when he runs errands this man LOVES your company!

As such, he doesn't mind your silence. In fact, he thinks it's endearing, and will find alternative ways for you to communicate that make you the most comfortable

(I mean all of this in the most manly macho war hero way possible btw)

To be honest he's not the best at reading you at first, but just give it a little more time and you're like an open book to him. He is that meme where you're sad and then he wakes up in a cold sweat like 'something is deeply wrong'

Of course this is assuming that you've opted not to sleep in the same bed, which he's also fine with, but like, Fukuchi despite being a literal global hero is also a pathetic man who will turn up at your house in the wee hours of the morning because he couldn't sleep because he could sense that YOU couldn't sleep

He is both parts cool and just downright pitiful. Maybe you'll actually be the one taking care of him (behind closed doors of course)

He loves that you're silent. Not only can he already tell how you're feeling regardless because of your body language and other factors, but he also doesn't need to worry about any potential scares or distractions from your voice. Win-win

He's actually a little curious as to why you don't talk but he waits for you to tell him of your own accord rather than asking outright (and if you ask him to keep it a secret he does)

He's more than happy to speak for you at any point. Like if someone asks you a question, he answers for you if you want him to, or if the question is rude he's like 'hey leave my partner alone you pathetic fuck'

Jouno's just a little bit possessive. He just really, really strikes me as the type

Since you don't talk to him, your love language manifests in other ways. He loves when you cling to him, buy him little presents or help him with stuff, he genuinely really appreciates it.

I feel like the only times Tecchou really even talks are when he's spoken to first, or when he's like talking to a suspect or a witness or whatever his job needs. He's certainly not a man of many words at the very least

Your time is spent together just in each others' presence and that's more than enough for him. Regardless of whether or not you have any conversation he loves your company

If he's given any options for something or any decisions to make ever without fail he'll always turn to you with a blank face and ask what you think, and wait for you to either nod and shake your head

He honestly might find it a little easier to communicate nonverbally with you and that's why he enjoys it so much. (if it isn't already established I am a firm believer in autistic Tecchou)

You two establish little ways of communicating with one another, like a squeeze of the hand means 'I love you' for example. It's honestly really adorable

At this point you could have whole conversations without saying anything. You two are the telepathic communication meme. Everyone else is confused, even Jouno is confused, he has NO idea what's happening

Teruko might have prodded at you for a while when you first met, trying to provoke you into talking. But you didn't let up with your silence and she decided that she liked you as you were anyway.

She really doesn't seem like someone who you should try talking over or interrupting tbh

If anyone else did that to you though, they'd be getting decked (I know I say this in EVERY Teruko post but I adore the idea of her being the 'only I'm allowed to be mean to you' friend)

Hot take, Bones doesn't deserve the amount of hate they are getting. Some, I understand but the amount I'm seeing is ridiculous. They have multiple projects they're working on and I get it, rushing through BSD isn't great but they can't animate everything. Also... the way they animated Aku makes more sense. Hard to give a soft smile losing such a large amount of blood from your neck.

Mmh, I understand that it can be disheartening to see something you like so heavily criticized, but I do believe the studio is doing some major mess up this season and that people are legitimately enraged.

I'm the first one to say that we're all here to have fun and there's not really any point on focusing on things we dislike, but I think it's also valid to be upset when something you care about a lot is treated unlovingly, and people are in their own right to express such disappointment. Moreover, I feel like in this case there is a point in expressing one's disdain. It's important to be critic of the media we consume: we could all pretend to be satisfied and settle on complacency, but wouldn't that be deeply detrimental? Otherwise, sometimes it's important to acknowledge and even state loud that you don't like something, because it's only by recognizing something is wrong that people can get to work to change it and improve. If we all tamely pretended we liked the new season, if there was no one to ever evaluate its direction, animation quality, pace, there's little hope for any of them to improve, simply because there's no need to change something people are happy with.

Theodor W. Adorno is my favorite sociologist. He once said, “the splinter in your eye is the best magnifying-glass available”. With that he meant that pain is the greatest source of knowledge. Pain allows to see things that otherwise would go unnoticed: only by acknowledging pain one can understand that something is wrong, that something needs to be changed and improved. I think it's always important to state: “this is wrong”, because nothing can ever be fixed if you don't first recognize it's broken.

Personally, I do believe what Bones studio is doing is wrong. I don't think it's fair to have such a drastic quality drop with the last season just like it wasn't in the third. I don't think it's right to not have an original opening sequence nor an ending sequence (that we know of). I don't think it's right to have such a fast pace that you can't keep up with the events. I don't think it's right to have a season filled with reused animations. I don't think it's right to have very little animation to the point there's up to 36 seconds of the same static frame in a single scene. I don't think it's right to have a quality drop in the drawings and quality inconsistency between one episode and the next. I think it's outrageous that the Fukuchi vs. sskk fight was so poorly animated and completely striped of any emotion. I don't think it's right of them to assassinate Akutagawa's chapter 88 panel. But most of all, I don't think it's right to have a season come out three months after the other. I don't think that's in any way ethically sustainable, and I don't think anyone needed that. I don't think it's right that studios don't get that people don't want an uninterrupted flow of content, people want quality content, and it's important to say that, or they'll never get it. I think they messed up greatly with this season, and I don't think being working on multiple projects can use as an excuse in any way, because as a studio you should be able to tell when you've got your hands too full to handle another project without meeting the quality standard. If Bones studio was working on too many projects, they simply shouldn't have set this season up for release so early, because again, NO ONE needs a new season after just three months.

I can see why you would say that the way they animated Akutagawa's last words makes more sense. It definitely is more rushed, and ugly. I guess one could argue that it conveys how death is precipitous and unpleasant, and doesn't leave space for last words. ... But I highly doubt that much was intentional. The sskk scene in its entirety was so poorly curated that I can hardly see the direction make thematically relevant choices. Even in the rare hypothesis it was a conscious and intentional directing choice, the outcome was still extremely underwhelming, because the moment itself doesn't feel rushed in particular since it's coming right after an episode that was rushed in its entirety.

I agree Akutagawa's death scene in the manga isn't realistic the slightest. But realism in that moment was never what the reader was asking for in the first place! It's a moment of conclusion for Akutagawa. It's the end of his cruel and hated life, and the author chooses to end it in kindness. By giving him a moment to smile and redeem himself, the author is showing Akutagawa the compassion he never received in his violence ridden life. Death scenes in media are almost never meant to be realistic! Their main aim is to move the audience, not to portray a realistic death. It's part of the deal the audience makes with the media the second they start interacting with it, to suspend their belief in order to enjoy the media at its fullest. It's, fundamentally, the same reason why you wouldn't question the characters having superpowers.

All the same, if you find yourself to be on average satisfied with the anime, that's perfectly valid too!!! I'm sorry people's disappointment may have resulted disheartening, and I understand it's hard to avoid, but my best advice is to try and curate your own internet experience to be so that you see the least negativity as possible. You might want to consider blocking and unfollowing people whose comments you find unpleasant, even if it's just temporary for the time the season airs. If it gets too much, refrain from visiting the main tag on Wednesdays when new episodes drop if that can work for you. I recognize we as a fandom could work better to build a space that is enjoyable for people who are liking the new season and wouldn't want to meet so much negativity, and I'm the first to admit I've been quite inconsistent in tagging my posts recently, so in the future I'll try to tag negativity accordingly. On the Villains wiki, Fyodor seems to be labelled as pure evil now because of what happened recently in the manga. Do you agree with this category assigned to Fyodor? I have a feeling that even if Asagiri gives Fyodor a tragic backstory it does not excuse Fyodor's actions. Because Fyodor misled Fukuchi it means that those five hundred people will have died for nothing. Fyodor involving innocent people who may or may not be ability users into this conflict is taking things to far.

tbh i dont think any character given a tragic backstory is automatically forgiven/redeemed, nor is it always the intention of the author --- it's just what the fandom perceives (a good tragic backstory builds the sympathy and connection needed for an actual redemption)

in general i dont think any character is pure evil in bsd; we don't know fyodor's intentions all that much, so he could fully be a character that has reasonable intentions, but is going through with it in a fucked up way

im not saying fyodor's good; or that his intentions can justify his actions; im just saying all bsd characters fall within some level of grey; fyodor's actions can't be justified w/ a backstory or w/ his intentions revealed not really; but no, i don't think we know enough for him to be purely evil yet nor do i think his tragic backstory will make him into a "good" guy

As it seems clear that we’re going to have to wait several months before we get new content in the manga, I am going to cope with some more speculations, so here are the

Reasons why I believe that Sigma is going to be alright:

For start, Sigma is not dead yet. He absorbed too much information from Dostoyevsky and his brain wasn’t able to handle it all, causing him to pass out/go into a coma [we see this happening briefly to Atsushi after he exchanged information with Sigma in the Sky Casino Arc]. Fyodor seemed sure that Sigma will never be able to recover from it and wake up, but if Season 5’s finale made anything clear is that Fyodor underestimates people, and while he may have hyped Sigma up as “exceptional because normal” at first, he had already decided to eliminate him because he wasn’t useful to him anymore, and doesn’t think highly of him at all. But I believe that Sigma’s determination and strenght is truly exceptional, and characters in this manga have survived waaaay more unsurvivable injuries before. Which brings me to the next point,

Asagiri doesn’t like to kill characters in the main manga (that’s saved for the light novels), and it took him more than 110 chapters to kill the first recurrent character(s) [Fyodor and Fukuchi, tho we’re not really sure about Fukuchi are we. He apparently came back as a fairy samurai with horns and lasers]. I really don’t think Asagiri would kill another character in the same arc, especially since Sigma’s death would serve literally no purpose in the narrative, and he’s not close enough to anyone else that his death could be motivational for a life-change or revenge. Other series can have “shock-value deaths” were the point is that life is unfair and the bad guys win sometimes, but that has never really been Bungou Stray Dogs’ MO. Again, that is saved for the light novels.

Sigma is the only person who knows all of Fyodor’s secrets, and if he dies those secrets are lost forever. Now of course there is a slim chance that Fyodor also is miraculously still alive, but personally I don’t think so, his arc felt complete, he accomplished some of his goals [in aiding Fukuchi], failed miserably some of the others [killing Dazai], and he truly was defeated by his own presumption and need for absolute control. And even if he were alive, he wouldn’t ever reveal all his plans, his secrets, his past. That is why we need Sigma alive to warn the ADA and give us the Fyodor-lore we are missing.

Unlike Fyodor’s, Sigma’s arc doesn’t feel complete at all. We don’t know why he was created or by who, and he clearly struggles with his identity and with the desire for a place to just belong. He also risked his life in order to repay Dazai and help the ADA, and for him to die after failing to do so [cause again, if he dies now he cannot share that information] would be completely pointless and cruel.

Related to my last point, there is another character in BSD who had to overcome his struggles with his humanity [or lack thereof], with not knowing why he was created and how, and with the desire to belong and find a family that looks after him just as much as he looks after them: Chuuya. This is only my theory, but honestly Chuuya would be the perfect person to help Sigma with this in the following story arc, he’s already there at the same location as him right now, and it would also be an excellent excuse to animate Stormbringer before they make Season Six.

Dazai promised Sigma he will get him out of there alive. Can Dazai make mistakes? Sure he can! But not that many let’s be real. At the very least he is not going to leave the prison without Sigma, unconscious or not, and that will give Sigma a chance to recover in the time it takes them all to go back to Japan.

Sigma shared a moment with Atsushi in the Sky Casino arc and it would honestly be really fitting and sweet for them to meet again. Just saying. It would be cute.

I think we are about to enter a story arc where the Reality Altering Book is even more relevant. Like, it was very relevant already, but I think the Book is responsible for whatever madness was happening at the end of Season 5? Like Fukuchi’s appearance and powers, and Akutagawa’s High Fantasy-looking clothes, it really looked like someone heavily altered reality again… A person created by the Book would be really fitting and possibly useful right now!

And last but not least, I really love Sigma and I don’t want him to be dead, and I think that’s an extremely compelling reason. It’s the most valid reason.

wait okay. instead of going to sleep like a normal person. here's how I'd change the ages in bsd (for those that have a canon age), bc no one looks their age/it makes the timeline feel weird, i wanna let at least some major past events breathe a little between one another. possibly controversial takes ahead:

atsushi: i like that he's 18 actually. he looks and feels 16 but no yeah 18 works better. I'd say 20-21 would be nice but that'd reallyyyy throw his backstory's timing off unfortunately

kunikida: around 27-28

ranpo: 28 also, maybe even 29 (his whole thing is that he looks young for his age anyway)

yosano: 28 as well

tanizaki: like. he does look 18. but also 16 and 21 at the same time. i like him as a bit older than atsushi so let's say 19-20, and naomi as well while we're at it

kenji: why is he 14. it's not that he doesn't look 14 it's that i simply did not expect a child to be the muscle in a detective agency. so please make him like at least 16 which is only just slightly better tbh

kyouka: yeah 14 is chill in her case imo. makes her more tragic 👍

fukuzawa: at least in his 50s. maybe 55ish, or even more. he def looks like it and it fits more with having a son in his 20s

kouyou: 30s. early 40s even. she is already so milf coded. finding out she's 26 in canon was straight up offensive i swear. come on.

i did mess up the timeline myself with this. so lemme clear it up:

The War and the whole thing with mori and yosano still happened when she was 11, so 17 years before canon. that means mori was still in his 20s back then, no big change

untold origins still happened when ranpo was in his teens, honestly we can keep it 14, so 14 years ago, meaning fukuzawa was in his late 30 or early 40s. again not too big of a change I'd say

fifteen happens when. well. dazai and chuuya are 15. ten years ago. i don't want q there get them out of my sight (for now) let them be a kid for a bit!!!!! but yeah like in canon that means the previous boss's murder was a year before, 11 years ago. also while we're at it, stormbringer is also the same aka a year after 15

now this is where we shake things up just a bit. rather than occuring when dazai is 18, i think we can push the dark era to when he's 20 and still maintain the whole childlike thing he has going on there, it's not that big of a difference imo.

that means, 5 years before canon instead of 4, making akutagawa 15 back then, and ango 27 like odasaku.

also yeah q comes in at some point in the middle between those^ I'd say close to dark era than fifteen.

originally i wanted to make skk 26 but this started stretching things even more. bc now we gotta figure out how long dazai spent in hiding. and ig we can keep it 2 years and just make it so his entrance exam was 3 years before canon. again imo not that big of a stretch 🤔

idk why i said this changes the timeline a lot i think this is p simple. also lets ppl stew in their situation for just a bit longer which i like more.

BSD Untold Origins: Anime VS Novel (1)

FINALLY ANIME ADAPTATION YESS- This is my fav BSD light novel and I'm so happy season 4 starts with it!! There's obviously moments and LOTS of, LOTS OF dialogue cut from anime to squish it within (most likely) 2 episodes...

Since I finally have the physical copy of the novel (from YenPress), I thought of comparing the changes/cut-out moments between anime & the light novel version..

When I say a lots of text/dialogue, ITS IS A LOT, so I'll also need to cut out most part to lessen the length of this post ^^" I covered the first half of episode 1,,, Obviously season 4, light novel, and (bit of) manga spoilers!

Around that time, there were rumors of a highly competent bodyguard in Yokohama. Give him a sword, and he could kill a hundred villains. Give him a spear, and he could take on an entire army. Episode starts with an bonus scene that is easily missed when first-time watching (due to hype lol), a phone call from Fukuchi (Gen'ichiro is the real name of the IRL author, and nickname(?) in BSD)

This added scene is mind-blowing in a sense that in the manga, we just got more backstory of Fukuzawa & Fukuchi's past, so this must has been planned out a long time ago, and it will be used as a throwback when anime gets to the *coughs* current events..

[...] However, he wasn't exactly in a bad mood. He was drowning in self-loathing. His client had been assassinated, and it was all very sudden. [...] She was a certain company's president who he'd sworn to guard only a few days prior. They had never talked outside of work. Fukuzawa made it a point to avoid getting personally involved with his clients,[...] However, he was once asked if he wanted to become a full-time bodyguard. Hating the idea of working for a specific company and having subordinates and colleagues made it easy for Fukuzawa to instantly decline the offer. [...] -Page 58

[...] While the victim's body had already been taken away for examination, there was no hiding the enormous bloodstain on the ground.

[...] The secretary, a sickly-looking man dressed in a black coat and a crimson necktie, was lining up some of the papers across the room. He stared at the field of paper, pulled a few files out, and returned them to the bookshelf before lining up some more documents. -Page 59

"What?" Fukuzawa uttered in astonishment. "Is the suspect still next door?" "He's very quiet, so quiet you might think he was sleeping. Almost as if he's given up." -Page 60

Between "He's very quiet" and "I would like to see the assassin" convo is a paragraph about Yokohama being a lawless district, 'city of demons', 'lawbreaker's paradise', and the existent of skill users in the world.

[...] However, bodyguards for important people, such as Fukuzawa, were very familiar with them, [...] . While Fukuzawa was a master of the martial arts, he was not a skill user. [...] -Page 60

After asking to see the assassin, there's literally little more than 3 pages of Fukuzawa (slightly) bickering with the secretary about the papers on the floor lmaoo-

"Mind if I move some of these?" Fukuzawa asked, pointing at the documents. "Oh! Stop! Don't touch them!" "[...] Please find a way past them without touching or shifting them! I know someone as talented as you can do it!" Fukuzawa stopped just short of uttering, "Uh... Excuse me?" [...] - Page 62

His way of getting to the next room is describe as he leaps from a bookshelf and ornament(s), then landing on a guest chair with his hands, using one leg and arm to balance between the documents and reaching for the door and turned the knob with his fingers only, then using the door as balance he jumps into the room.

Probably the biggest change is the way the room arranged, the description of the assassin, and what Fukuzawa does in light novel.

[...] The assassin's hands and feet were bound, and the thick, dark sack over his head prevented Fukuzawa from being able to see his face. [...] Tied around his arms and legs was iron wire in addition to the rope. [...] He didn't appear to be any more than a run-of-the-mill bandit who was good at sneaking into buildings.

[...] This was the reception room. The only items in the room were a simple bookshelf, a table to discuss business, and a painting. [...] - Page 65

Fukuzawa hits the wall behind the assassin, no reaction. He knows after this that he's not an amateur. He keeps observing the assassin, no guess of his name or possible ability. On a small desk in the corner of the room are the pistols, changes, and pick locks. Fukuzawa pickes up a fountain pen on the desk, tests its writiblity, then using the pen as it was sword, he gets into a stance. The assassin reacts. Upon Fukuzawa stricking with the 'sword' (pen), he hops to the side while tied to chair and slams to the ground. Fukuzawa thinking about the reaction differences, then returns to the office.

"Greetings!" It was an energetic voice, reminiscent of clucking chicken. [...] He appeared to be around fourteen or fifteen years old [...] -Page 68

"[...] Oh! Also, I ran into a seagull on the way here. Good thing they're so nasty, huh? It grossed me out so much I ended up giving it one of my rice balls before I could stop myself." [...] "You're seriously never heard of a seagull before? Freaky-looking rats with wings, those things." [...] -Page 70

"Ack! Wait, wait, wait! Stop right there!" [...] ...the secretary grabbed the boy by the shoulder, barely stopping him in time. The boy stared at him, puzzled, [...] -Page 71

"Sheesh, just look at the mess you made here. I get that you didn't want anyone to search the room, but...this? Adults puzzle me. What a puzzling world we live in!" -Page 72

Ranpo keeps pushing and kicking away the papers, secretary is freaking out.

"Old guy"... Fukuzawa was about to counter with "I'm only thirty-two years old!" but he furrowed his brows, more curious about the last part of the boy's sentence. -Page 74

"After all, you're the one who killed her, Mr.Secretary." "...What?" The secretary tilted his head to the side, mouth agape. "...What?" The secretary tilted his head to the side, mouth agape. "...What?" The secretary tilted his head to the side, mouth agape. His head was almost completely perpendicular to the floor. "Why did you just say the same thing three times in a row? I swear, adults make absolutely no sense sometimes." [...] -Page 75

[...] "If my mother were here, she'd already have the criminal tied up and tossed out the window!" [...] You're joking, right? What is this? A test? Do I get points for every obvious detail I lint in the end? Sigh. The city really is a mystery to me." -Page 76

I can't stress enough the amount of times Ranpo talking about why the world & adult are confusing!! Basically the secretary framed the assassin he hired. He killed the president because the role of secretary wasn't enough for him.

The fight is similar, slight change is that Fukuzawa have more control, immobilize him using martial art techniques, while the bigger change is that all that moves that Oda does are done WHILE HE WAS STILL WEARING THE SACK. The secretary got killed the same way. Fukuzawa slams the assassin against the floor, and disarms him. He takes the sack off and finally recognizes Oda.

[...] The boy's dark-brown eyes were frighteningly vacant, void of even a fragment of emotion. [...] -Page 84

Fukuchi: 😳 - No, he's not embarrassed. If anything he'll make a production of it, though usually he'd just let it go and move on. 🤧 - A bit rougher, loud, something along the lines of "hh'RSHHaa-! yehRSHH'shoo-! ah'RKSHH-!"

Tetchou: 😳 - Depends. Generally I'd wager not embarrassed per se, but doesn't want to dwell on them either. Would rather no one comment and he gets to just keep working without interruption. (can be a bit embarrassed when it's a fit though~) 🤧 - I kiinda hear it a little growly, but with a lot of his voice, and a touch desperate? Sooo, something like "eh'yiezzshhoo-! ak'tzzzshhoo-! rzshh- izshh- hh'RZSHH'dieuu-!"

Tachihara: 😳 - Yes. Absolutely, yes. He wants to be seen as strong, and unwavering, and he considering sneezing 'showing weakness' and he hates it. (not to mention his sneeze isn't exactly 'mafia/military' worthy, in his mind) 🤧 - Not tiny or girly, but rather high pitched. Not a ton of his voice though, more like a fairly normal sneeze but with a 'shhiee-!' sound he can't quite get rid of. So like, "ek'shhhiee-! ashhh'iee-! ah'kzshhh'iee-! ah'yzshhhhiee-!"

Jouno: 😳 - Outwardly, he acts like he isn't. But inwardly, he definitely gets embarrassed by it. Mostly because it leaves him so vulnerable, since he relies on smell as well as sound, and having a fit takes those away from him. But also partially because people always tease him about them. 🤧 - Why do people tease him? Because he has lil fits that sound like "ah'diew-! kshh'iew-! ak'shhhiew-! heHh- enGZSHhh'tiew-! hhyIIShh'diew-!" Generally smaller sneezes that build up into bigger ones, but no matter what, that 'iew-!" sound is always at the end. (though, unlike Tachihara, he doesn't attempt to change it.)

Okay okay hear me out Sigma and Jouno friendship HEAR ME OUT I KNOW THEYVE NEVER MET BUT I THINK THEY WOULD VIBE AND I MADE A LIST WHY !!CONTAINS SPOILERS!!

They're both their organization's lead interrogation force With vastly different methods, sure, but Sigma would feel like Jouno would have no real intention of using him as he possesses the skills himself.

Both got recruited in the face of death basically Jouno was saved from death row by Fukuchi, after being a convicted criminal, in order to join the Hunting Dogs, Sigma was saved from walking aimlessly after escaping from armed people and being held prisoner for his ability. Neither has much say in their destiny, with the alternative choice clearly being worse Jouno can't leave the Hunting Dogs, since the surgery will not allow him to live longer than a month upon defecting, Sigma cannot leave because the casino is the thing that gives him purpose and a reason to exist, and he cannot stray from the writings of the page

Both really need a break from their colleagues Jouno's opinion of his fellow Hunting Dogs is often written in suffix along the lines of 'What idiots' or 'Are they stupid?' (even more so in Wan, even if that is not canon), Sigma takes a more passive approach, by labeling himself 'the most normal person in the room' in prison, as well as some clear confused or just disbelieving expressions

Jouno would kick absolute butt at poker (with braille cards) Jouno could easily read the excitement of his opponent, and even use his blindness as an excuse to get the others to read the cards out loud in order to get a more accurate read on their hands. He would have a near perfect idea of his odds of victory at all times and can bet accordingly.

Sigma could get government witness protection- something like that- were he to leave the DOA Yes, he'd most likely be better off with the ADA, given his ability is not combat-based, but the Hunting Dogs have shown in the past that they also have the power to make sure criminals do not get prosecuted for their crimes, as Tecchou once promised for Lucy, so it's still a viable option.

And- this one might be a stretch but HEAR ME OUT- Jouno would see Sigma as himself at an earlier stage in life Given Jouno's history of crime before landing on the good path, he could see the potential in Sigma- especially because Sigma never really had the desire to hurt anyone, unlike Jouno. He would know better than anyone that it is possible to be changed, and I believe he'd support it in his own way, especially considering Sigma's age.

Firstly, I love throwing random characters into relationships (romantic, platonic, familial, whatever), so no need to say “hear me out,” I’m all ears!!!

Secondly, YESS!!! I love the idea of them becoming friends!!! I feel like they’d definitely have an understanding of each other, and can both bond from being former criminals, as you said.

I mean, Jouno literally asked Kunikida, who he fully believed was a terrorist, to join the Hunting Dogs, most likely because he himself was in the same position as Kunikida at one point and joining was a great decision in his life, why not do something similar with Sigma, in this case??

I also think that Jouno wouldn’t really find Sigma annoying the same way he he does most people, Sigma’s pretty polite and well-mannered most times, and so is Jouno when he’s in a good mood and not being irritated by something, so I feel like their friendship would actually be pretty relaxed compared to their relationships with their coworkers.

Also Jouno would be amazing at card games, he could practically read all of his opponent’s intentions by their heartbeats, slight movements of their fingers against their cards, not even people with the best pokerface can hide anything from him

Anyway. I just have come off from seeing last week's episode (ep 12) and while I fully support bashing it, I WILL grab a shovel and dig for some positives i found in it, so...

- Atsushi apologising to Lucy for her help because it'll brand her as criminal is REALLY sweet and all, but my boy. My dear tiger. She used to be a part of the Guild (which I know skirts international laws and all but...)

- Love. LOVED seeing Fukuchi say how much "the lone wolf" has changed BECAUSE HE HAS

- I do like that I think, so far, we haven't seen a distinct ability colour for Tachihara's ability (we might've in Yosano's ep but memory)

- Tecchou stabbing Jouno in the foot. Beautiful

- Teruko's VA. The way she switches from sweet child to cool child to just child to Adult like the TALENT

- I don't know why but the fact that Lucy's ability can go from glorified time refrigerator to the heart of the ADA's new base makes me laugh

- SIGMA. I'M JUST GLAD WE GOT HIM!

(But I want to jump on the bashing bandwagon so...under the cut)

Honestly? A lot of people have said it better than I have. And I'm not toooo familiar with the Skyfall arc, even though I have skimmed a few panels or chapters here and there.

But, hmm. My two cents on it was the classic too many characters, too little time.

Also, what I've seen, this arc is supposed to really sell just how desperate everyone is. Like, take Atsushi saying "this is Dazai's plan" after verbalizing what Ango said about getting the location of the page.

I think what this arc was supposed to do was sort of...gently refute that? Show that maybe Dazai's plan isn't the best plan or at the very least emphasize how it really is the desperation of ordinary people that move things along. Yosano said it in the manga. Dazai also said it. Even Fyodor.

I mean right here, the characters that are present might not exactly be ordinary people, but compared to the genuis and/or power of the other characters, people like the Hunting Dogs or Sigma or the Kyouka-Lucy-Atushi trio really are less extraordinary than people like Dazai, Fyodor, and Fukuchi. I think where the episode falls short the most is that they didn't capture that desperation of these guys, showing how they ALL really were just hanging by a thread. So manga skyfall, I think, shows not how Dazai's plan is supposed to work but how the intense determination and will of just some guys will make it work. Or how the plans of genuises will fail and STILL there will be ordinary people to get back up and try again. Tachihara literally using his identity crisis to overpower the book. Teruko using the simple act of growing up to stop a plane. Atsushi, Kyouka, and Lucy with their powerful abilities but comparatively "lesser" intellect figuring things out through their empathy. Sigma and his desire to belong.

Something something step 1, the ada loses credibility via powerful book. Step 2, normal people struggle and sometimes fail, sometimes come out on top of powerful book...and it sure hurts a lot

Spreading Unlikely BSD Friendship Propaganda

Day 1: Sigma & Saigiku Jouno

Spoilers for the BSD Manga (obviously)

Both are their respective organisation's interrogator

With vastly different methods, sure, but Sigma would feel like Jouno would have no real intention of using him as he possesses the skills himself.

Both were recruited in the face of death & are now unable to leave easily

Jouno was saved from death row by Fukuchi, after being a convicted criminal, in order to join the Hunting Dogs Sigma was saved from walking aimlessly after escaping from armed people and being held prisoner for his ability Neither has much say in their destiny, with the alternative choice clearly being worse Jouno can't leave the Hunting Dogs, since the surgery will not allow him to live longer than a month upon defecting Sigma cannot leave because the casino is the thing that gives him purpose and a reason to exist, and he cannot stray from the writings of the page

Both are their organisation's 'wtf is wrong with my colleagues' person

Jouno's opinion of his fellow Hunting Dogs is often written in suffix along the lines of 'What idiots' or 'Are they stupid?' (even more so in Wan, even if that is not canon) Sigma takes a more passive approach, by labeling himself 'the most normal person in the room' in prison, as well as some clear confused or just disbelieving expressions

Jouno would kick ass at Poker

[If the cards support braille, that is] Jouno could easily read the excitement of his opponent, and even use his blindness as an excuse to get the others to read the cards out loud in order to get a more accurate read on their hands. He would have a near perfect idea of his odds of victory at all times and can bet accordingly.

Sigma could get government protection were he to leave the DOA and get his crimes excused

Yes, he'd most likely be better off with the ADA, given his ability is not combat-based, but the Hunting Dogs have shown in the past that they also have the power to make sure criminals do not get prosecuted for their crimes, as Tecchou once promised for Lucy, so it's still a viable option.

Neither has a prejudice against the other specifically (considering they have not yet met)

Sigma may have a general distaste for the Hunting Dogs due to Teruko and Tachihara's intrusion, but on the occasion that they would meet when Jouno is not recognized as a Hunting Dog, they are on equal ground without prejudice

Jouno would see Sigma as himself at an earlier stage in life

Maybe a slight stretch, but hear me out: Given Jouno's history of crime before landing on the good path, he could see the potential in Sigma- especially because Sigma never really had the intention to hurt anyone, unlike Jouno. He would know better than anyone that it is possible to be changed, and I believe he'd support it in his own way, especially considering Sigma's age.

what are your thoughts on the current status of the bsd manga? any ideas on how it'll progress from here, what you like or dislike?

Absolutely none!

No really, at the moment I'm too consumed by One Piece nostalgia (and now Blue Lock) screaming at me to be overly concerned about BSD, BSD has always been more of a casual investment I enjoy for its own and fanart but never actively desire to seek out more. Besides the novels, I like books.

I'm really more of the Bungou aspect of Bungou Stray Dogs as a literature fan * and so my interest has always been a more subtle interest in observing what Asagiri has to say about the human nature and condition than giving absolute judgements on anything.

* Despite interest, have not finished reading a lot of works. Tbf Japanese Literature has a fairly passive tone that I get fed up with for my poor attention span. Others... Yeah aside from CAP being a literal punishment to read I don't have excuses besides I have work + uni and I am lazy.

What I can say is the current manga focus is a lot more on well the two primary black-white duos against each other + Fyodor, Aya and Bram and Fukuchi playing God or whatever. All these exchanges showcase how much would they put out to reach each other and watch how things click into place, the last touches to the final stage curtains.

I don't have as much anticipation on finding out how things end but I would say it's a risky move for Studio Bones to release BSD this early when the manga hasn't finished so it means the anime would adapt the season finale first before the manga.

Asagiri is supervising so I don't doubt it would be okay but I am mildly concerned as to how enjoyable it is to immerse and believe in the narrative. I'll bet he'll pull it off anyways but I hope it's something that wraps the story up well and not leave more questions than not. Admittedly I find Fukuchi off putting power scale wise when he appeared seemingly nowhere with 1. a fairly deep connection to Fukuzawa and the ADA, 2. he's this all powerful might hero that everyone looks to but no mention of him until hunting dogs arrival and 3. we find out he just decided this cause of action and is our twist villain suddenly. What?

I don't know if I liked it or not but I guess quite a bit of stuff resolved.

I still don't like Fukuchi. No matter how beautiful your whole reason to save the world was, that's just bullshit to drag the entire world into your shitty plan and then dump it all your ex sweetheart pick up the pieces and be the "good guy" you wanted him to be by sacrificing yourself.

Teruko deserves so much better, she wasn't even able to be happy finishing what she needed to do. Damn.

Anyways moving on, rest of the gays are... Gay (happy).

Aya is safe and alive, Bram is now her guardian Knight accompanying the hero of justice! Though her looking up to her father is bittersweet. Also knowing irl Ms Aya Kodo's whole strained relationship with father and living under his shadow but still desiring his affections is man, twisted.

Kenji and Tecchou is okay whoo!! So is Kyouka and Lucy

Where Jouno. What the hell Jouno. Is he okay?? Whyy???

Where the hell is Yosano, Kouyou and Mori (and Higuchi) too I don't know if Mori's disappearance is something I like, I'm scared what-
