Pokèmon World Magazine: Porygon Net (Various Issues)
We’ve had a very long streak of Photoset posts lately, didn’t we? Let’s have a little break from anime and tie-in games and let’s go back to oldschool Pokèmon and my favourite childhood magazine, Pokèmon World!
This summer I'm working on my own portfolio site: it's getting built from scratch and, due to the kind of art it's going to showcase, I'm designing its layout to look like one of those old personal pages a lot of Internet users used to have back in the first 2000s. This choice was also influenced by one of my childhood dreams, which was, infact, owning a corner of the Net all for myself; without the right equipment or spare money to purchase a domain, though, the idea of having my page online was only hypotetical, so all I could do was designing some cute layouts on Microsoft Frontpage and admiring what others were doing. Of course, as Pokèmon was my main interest at the time, I found the Porygon Net section of Pokèmon World mag to be extra inspirational.
Porygon Net was a very small section with just a double page: every month, the magazine's staff would choose and review an italian site dedicated to everyone's favourite monsters. These online corners were, most of the times, built by fellow readers and fans who sometimes even wrote back either by mailing the staff or boasting about it on their site's news section, thanking for the feature and the subsequent wave of new visitors. As these places were built by teens or even kids (I may have seen some online pages managed by 10 year olds at the time o.o), their quality varied greatly depending on their web-making skills: some were very simplistic, other more orderly and neat, and some... showed potential, but needed more work. Pokèmon World's staff, though, never mocked these attempts, and instead also published suggestions to make certain parts of the site more functional and pleasing to the eye. I found this very encouraging, and I wonder if many of these people have continued with a career in the online world.
I went and browsed among my mag issues to find some sites to showcase: I mostly picked the ones that stuck in my mind since reading about them, or that I actually used to visit back in the day. Wayback Machine may have not been kind to the italian community, and I fear the majority of these sites are now lost; however, I'll post links if, surprisingly, I find them still alive!
Issue 4: Pokemon Mania
The pictures have been displayed in chronological order, but I still would've chosen to display this site first as I used to actually visit it before it was featured on Pokèmon World. Due to its easy and straightforward name, Pokèmon Mania was one of the first fansites to show up on the search engine if you ever looked for more Pokèmon content. It was managed by a guy with the alias of Professor Kao, and the whole feeling of the site was that of a Pokemon lab at the start of your monster journey. Though it wasn't exactly a marvel in terms of layout esthetic, the site aimed to amaze with content: it had simple browser fangames, a section dedicated to drawing tutorials (with pictures taken from japanese sources- which at the time were very scarce and hard to get!), many sections dedicated to the Cardgame (apparently, the main focus of Kao's Pokèmon interests) and its live tournaments, and one centered on the monsters' trivia. One very interactive section even proposed quizzes given by the webmaster himself that visitors could answer via mail: Kao would then contact winners and even send out special official merch like Pokèmon Center plushies or other branded toys. Generous! This site has been preserved in the Wayback Machine with a lot of snapshots, though unfortunately without many graphics. We can still navigate and read most of the sections!
Issue 20: Pokemon Museum
My second site of choice striked me with its very homely layout: even looking at the snapshot in its article feels like I'm viewing a cozy corner of the Net, in which the webmaster poured its personal thoughts and passions more than providing a service like PokèmonMania did. The issue is number 20 and quite some months have passed: online trends regarding these kind of pages had changed a bit and now people preferred to offer their own content instead of copy-pasting what Nintendo produced. Pokèmon Museum's graphics have all been drawn by the owner, Kabutops: the background texture, banner, and a lot of the graphics all around the sections! Kudos for being to prolific and precise during a period in which digital art still hadn't reached its peak popularity, and drawing tablets were only restricted to professionals. Going past the many sections dedicated to the anime, games and lore, one interesting aspect was the beginning of affiliates: fellow webmasters were starting communicating with eachother and sharing their visits by dedicating a little button to other sites. I loved the affiliates section because, once finished looking through a site, I could click on the cute little rectangle banners and find myself in another home without passing from Google searches! But webmasters wouldn't affiliate with everyone, and for the purpose of only interacting with other best Pokèsites, awards had become popular as well: graphics that people would exchange after rating a site and feeling impressed with their content, presentation, or popularity. Pokèmon Museum's magazine review focused on its affiliates and the awards, inviting fellow readers to have their site reviewed by Kabutops. Unfortunately, the site is not present on Wayback Machine. I'll never know if Kabutops came back updating its museum after summer vacations :(
Issue 35: TBPS
Let's have another jump of several months; issue 35 featured a page under the bigger domain Pokevalley and named itself The Best Pokèmon Page, rather narcissistic! This was one of those rare times Pokèmon World featured an english-speaking site. The layout doesn't impress me too much, yet the fact that the header reads "Crystal Water Version" conveys that the webmaster(s) used to periodically change aspect and palette of their site, an activity that proved to be very prolific for many page owners at the time: sites were often in construction, and people were experimenting with different colours or HTML code tricks to impress viewers and reviewers, have as many affiliates as possible and collect positive awards from other sites. Such was popularity, back in the day! The site has a long menu with many sections dedicated to the main games and movies; although, none of those pages were catching anyone’s attention anymore as everyone had the same copypasted guides and info; instead, what’s interesting is the hefty section dedicated to browser games, the big menu with pages concerning the site and staff themselves, and the oekaki board! Oekakis were very popular in that period, as it allowed fellow aspiring artists to meet eachother and show off their own skills by drawing live! If a site hosted one, they could quickly become a melting pot of creativity. Wayback Machine, sadly, doesn’t have anything concerning this site as well.
Issue 36: Arcywof
We’re back on italian sites with a page that definitely impressed even Pokèmon World’s staff for its pleasing graphics. When I first saw this among the magazine’s pages... my eyes lit up! I can’t hide that after seeing its beautiful palette, checkered background and condensed menu, teen me adopted Arcy & The Fire Pkmn as design guru: many of my subsequent mockup pages had exactly this layout, or variations of it. It’s too bad, though, that aside from the beautiful presentation, the site’s contents aren’t exactly interesting: the Pokèmon images are ripped straight from Nintendo’s official archives, and most sections are concerning the anime’s characters, episode plots, and broadcasting dates. However, Arcywof also offers a forum and a live chat, which definitely helped the staff build an interactive and affectionate community around it. Among all reviewed here, I’m most bitter that Wayback Machine hasn’t archived this site, because seriously, it’s a little jewel ;w; its pastel colours and checkered texture remind me of candy shops!
Issue 38: Pokemon Super Site
I wanted to finish this little jump in the past with a positive note and show at least one more saved address from Wayback Machine. Although not in its updated version originally featured in Pokèmon World Issue 38, Pokèmon Super Site has been archived and it’s more or less complete to explore. It’s too bad a lot of the graphics haven’t survived but hey it’s something! It’s 2003, and the trend has changed once again: forums are as popular as ever and considered one of the most successful ways to build a solid audience for one’s own page, which are now treated more like portals or an extension to the forum itself. Super Site’s sections are centered on game guides, nothing too special, but I do love the grey and white grid background on menus and header, as if we’re viewing a notebook page; reminds me of school days. I also really like the gifs section as featured in the review, all those old graphics bring back so much memories of scouting the net to save them all on hard drive!
If you stumble upon one of these sites in Wayback Machine, chances are the ever present affiliates buttons will still be working, allowing you to visit even more fansites. It’s a true trip to the past, and a never ending source of inspiration for me!

So, now that things have somewhat calmed down since Sunday, Let’s talk about the new 6 hpmi members.
I saw a post in the tags about someone’s “hot take” calling them ugly and hoping they aren’t “main characters”... except the last part is, “duh, ofc they are promoted as main charas...” I mean, lol, what were you expecting? They are here to disrupt the other 4 divisions, they were put by Central Ward, they also have some relationships with our other guys. Perhaps, for the first part of the plot... at least until the end of the 1st Battle Season, they do not exist per se as such... that’s why the manga series is attempting to fill some gaps.
Like, any other idol franchise... this is somewhat expected to happen? I mean, lol?
But, Ican tell you this, I am also overwhelmed about them for a couple of reasons:
I also have favorites in other divisions, but I’m not the type of person to spend in lots in merch of them, I wish I could, but many of the merch I want is sadly in sets (or collab events), and it’s sometimes more expensive than I want to spend to (could be freaking good, as there are times I like them all equally...), and most of the times I cannot do splits to get specific characters, like Ichiro. More charas is kind of something that I don’t think will affect me in the close future.
The other reason is what I have talked about in another post.
Look, having charas who have some “relationships” from the characters is... both good and bad. I kinda feel KR want to force the focus in some of them to the other guys, though.
That’s why the whole “Amayado = Yamada’s dad” theory is still rubbing me off the wrong way. That’s why I don’t like the theory that perhaps Rosho is someone who is related to Ramuda in some sort of way... or that he is the BBs teacher (why?) or why ppl thinking BAT is kinda referencing to Dice in some sort of... way??? (the seiyuu reactions in the 4th live do not help)... let’s not talk about the popular theory of “Otome is related to Dice” (which I can totally buy, because freaking FP is still mysterious in their own way but we don’t know much more than 15% about them).
Look, my first impressions in the other 4 divisions in the start was not good, either, because it was full of mystery... ppl started to theorize as crazy when they released the first relationship graphic for the 12 of them. And the thing is, I have mellowed to them in the past two years. Perhaps this might happen with the new 2 divisions as well.
But, nah, they are not “side divisions”, not when they are advancing the plot, and with an hypothetical 2nd Battle Season next year. Because this is affecting th franchise in a meta/plot way.
Now, here is the other part I wanted to talk about: the character designs. OP in that other post offered this “hot take”: that they look ugly, and “expected too much better for a franchise wth “cute boys”... except... you know... the majority of this cast is in their mid-to-late 20s...? Three of the oldest cast are 35-46?
I’m not excusing they could have done a bit much more “cute”... but ppl have different tastes, and not everyone has to be a freaking twink (THAT’S MY HOT TAKE HERE). And heck, ppl like Amayado’s design a lot, for example. Let ppl be thirsty for him, lol.
My own take on this is... I might have expected a bit much better, though. The prospect of new divisions wasn’t that far off from happening. Reintroducing Kukou or Sasara to the present timeline was possible, too. I do like the designs of these two, for example. I like how Sasara is dressed in a typical formal manzai comedian attire, I like how Kukou, being a monk, also looks like a punk... it’s a franchise where you don’t expect how random it would get with ppl involved in rap battles (I mean, a salaryman, a host, an ex-soldier, a hobo, two teens, a gremlin, you get my drift?)
Here’s the thing, however, while I like megane characters, Jyuto fits more my aesthetic... Rosho... cute teacher and what not... I don’t like the glasses the character desginer put him in. I don’t like them at all. And heck, Hitoya’s clothing style and his hairstyle? Lol, I really hate them. You could have done w/o the Monokuma-like-biker jacket (get an usual black biker jacket, ffs). And then there’s Jyushi... like... a visual kei character dresses as much as that. Not like I hate it, it’s... fine...
But, yeah, I wish... you know? A bit more body diversity in the guys’ designs, I guess. That’s why I was like “oh, good! more twinks!” in all my sarcastic self on (Amayado is no twink, whatsoever, and Hitoya looks beefier... compared to Riou who could have done a bit more on that, too, jfc)
I mean, you have a muscle-chub-like side chara in the ARB game... but that’s the game... it’s not the same.
I just... hope that it happens like what happened to me when the other 4 divisions were introduced... and KR change my first impressions in both DH and BAT.

I'm curious about online shops. Got any general information / details that might go missed?
i am a dumb dumb that has inhaled too much information the past couple weeks trying to learn so take what i say w/ several grains of your preferred salts
this all goes for etsy/shopify/whatever you use for e-commerce. the levels of serious you take it and get into it i think depends on how far you want to take your online shop... or how much you make. google the hell out of your states sales tax laws and apply for a sales tax permit in your state before you sell a damn thing. ill go over the stuff i think really needs to be highlighted for anybody mulling over starting a legit shop, esp artists who want to make a living selling their stuff.
edit: HEY HIT “J” ON YOUR KEYBOARD IF YOU DONT GIVE A SHIT BC THIS IS REALLY LONG AND IM NOT SORRY BC I THINK I LEARNED EVEN MORE WRITING THIS SO THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT...
this will be how you feel when youre 2 hours into logo trademarking research
1. hm..
if you make, or plan to make, over $400 in sales, then most states consider this going beyond a hobby and being self-employed. so accept the fact you gotta pay a self-employment tax on your income.
also... gotta pay federal and state income taxes on your sales. even if your online shop is technically considered a hobby, not licensed as a business and you dont make over $400, still gotta report/pay income taxes on it. i know a lot of ppl dont take that seriously but it might bite you in the ass if you let it go on too long.
2. register sole proprietorship so i know its real
registering in your home state as a legit business entity is likely a solid route to go if you really plan on fleshing your shop out and building it up for the future. most artists starting an art shop or craft shop file a SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP type of business- meaning the business isnt a place or a group of owners, its just lil ole you. you file under your own name or a “Trade Name”/DBA (Doing Biz As) with your state. but beware, this trade name isnt trademarked or federally protected. and since you ARE your business, any tax trouble means the IRS is auditing you personally and holding you personally liable.
its relatively affordable to file, but take your bookkeeping seriously... be careful because the IRS eyeballs sole proprietorships’ reported taxes and expense deductions hardcore, since the lines between business and personal expenses get really blurry and sketchy. the more you need to save, the more you need to log as a deduction, and the more you deduct the more likely they’ll try to audit you and catch a mistake. so keep your books right and tight. [ 50 state guides for applying for sole proprietorship ]
that being said, IMMEDIATELY OPEN A BUSINESS ACCOUNT AT BANK/CREDIT UNION AND KEEP ALL BUSINESS RELATED PURCHASES/SALES ON THAT ACCOUNT and not your personal one!!!
3. bite the hand that takes your income away!!!
sole proprietorship means your business income = your income, aka “pass thru entity” where profit in your business passes thru and adds to your personal taxable income. it used to be that your business income was just taxed at the same rate as your personal income bracket and thats it. BUT LISTEN UP! NEW 2018 TAX LAWS ADDED A STANDARD 20% DEDUCTION TO TAXABLE INCOME FOR PASS-THRUS WITH LESS THAN $157,500 REPORTED INCOME. that's auto-subtracted along with your business expense deductions etc, before it’s taxed. what does that mean? it can knock your taxable income down: if you’re single and make $38,700 you get taxed $3.7k instead of $4.6k. If you make $82,500, you get taxed $14.5k instead of $18.1k. And thats not even accounting for other deductions before being taxed.
applying sooner than later for sole propriety/”pass through entity” can really help because of BUSINESS EXPENSE DEDUCTIONS. if you keep careful itemized records and your books clean, you can report tons of business related expenses and get your taxable income at the end of the year lowered. that new tablet, paints, software you bought on the business-only card? the gas you put in your car to get to your anime con, the hotel you stayed at? take it even further: shipping costs, wholesale costs, promo merch for advertising (stickers & swag) and even fees from hiring an accountant can usually be claimed. there’s a LOT that can be claimed.
dont skimp on the research because just logging and reporting expenses can make or break your shop. [heres another link] applying to be a business entity early means more of your start-up costs are logged and claimed as expenses.
and you know what happens at the end of the year when you report your income and claimed expenses? the expenses are subtracted from your total reported income, and youre taxed on whats left. so if you make $50,000 by the end of the year, but you spent $10,000 in approved business expenses, you’re only taxed for $40,000- but wait! 20% deduction= $8k, which drops your taxable income to $32,000. you just dropped from a 22% tax rate bracket to a 12% and you end up only paying $3,840 in taxes. that is only 7.6% tax on your 50k income!! and you could probably pay even less with all the other tax breaks you can score.
make sure you read up on the IRS website on this stuff too. look up youtube videos and stuff to make sense of anything that confuses you. and dont forget to crawl your state’s own websites and see if they have any tax breaks or incentives for start-ups, artists, etc!!and now the worst part. im so sorry.
4. the ugly seven-headed demon of sales tax and online shops....... stay with me plsthis is the biggest thing and becoming a super hot topic these days with states wanting to cash in on online sales to their residents
first things first: NEXUS. think of your sales tax nexus as the physical irl presence of your business, in a state-by-state basis. customers in states you hold nexus in? gotta charge them sales tax. customers from states you DO NOT hold nexus in? no sales tax for them! (for now... ill explain later)
you have nexus in your home state, obviously since you are your biz and you live there, so you’ll need to charge sales tax on anybody buying from you in your home state. BUT.... if you contract someone in another state to do design work for you, unfortunately that means you also have nexus or “presence” in their state, too. if you have a warehouse storing inventory in another state, yep, another nexus and another state wanting to cash in on sales tax. getting enamel pins made in yet another state and they drop-ship your orders for you on your business’s behalf? yeah, likely another state to report sales tax to.
collecting sales tax isnt a big problem- nearly every ecommerce site like etsy, shopify, bigcommerce and the like automatically configure sales tax in U.S. states you set up as a nexus for your shop. the problem comes around when you’ve got to apply for a sales tax permit in every nexus state, and then keep track of all the filing deadlines. every state is different. just four nexus states to report to means there are four permits to apply for, four reporting/filing schedules/deadlines to keep track of... and each state has different schedules, you could have two states requiring you to report annually and two states quarterly. it can be really hairy and a lot to keep track of if you’re not careful.try to keep your sales tax nexus in ONLY your home state, if at all possible. use manufacturers in your state to print/drop-ship orders.if theyre out of state, have them send the finished product back to you before you mail it off to customers, so you can avoid creating a new taxable nexus.
[ Sales Tax & Nexus Guide ]
still with me? this is the ugly part sorry:
the other big problem with having multiple nexus to report is how much sales tax varies- not just state by state but by city, town, county, even jurisdiction !
one state can have HUNDREDS of different sales tax rates to report, and you have to clearly report each individual one you collect sales tax in.
for instance, over a year you sell to multiple people in your nexus state-- in the same exact county, under the same sales tax ordinance. they live near a bunch of schools so their county has an added jurisdiction sales tax that goes toward education programs. the report you file has to clearly define how much tax $ you’ve collected from them so that state knows exactly how much is going back to that jurisdiction, so they can divvy it up for that sweet sweet education funding.
now imagine that multiplied across counties, cities, and then doubled with another entire state... and thats why keeping your nexus low is a huge deal for someone who’s running an online store solo.
thankfully, you probably wont have to input all that data yourself.
MAKE SURE you find a good website to settle into- that, at the very least, compiles this information for you to make it less of a headache to file in the right format, with the right info. there are upgrade auto-file options built into most ecommerce websites, so you dont even have to worry about it or think about missing a deadline... but that monthly fee might be too expensive to manage at first. that would be one of the FIRST things i’d do once i could swing it, to eliminate any chance of late fees, getting audited or having my sales tax permit suspended for that nexus state.
5. IMPORTANT!!: even if you make absolutely $0 dollars in sales from any nexus state, you STILL HAVE TO REPORT IT AND FILE BY THE DEADLINE. don’t get a $50 fee over literally nothing.
ANIME CON OR CRAFT CON ARTIST/VENDOR? BEWARE!
always research the convention’s home state/city sales tax regulations before registering (or blowing money making merch) for a con. it varies great and wide and has been changing a lot so always recheck before cons. some states supply simple time-limited permits, some states dont require sales tax at all for 2/3 day vendors, and some states will qualify a single physical sale as creating a permanent nexus. dont overlook that stuff or you’ll regret it when you get home to do business as usual with your shop and you have to start charging/reporting sales tax for every customer from that state!!
6. but wait ore.. you said something ominous about no sales tax for non-nexus states...... “for now”..?
yeeahhh... there’s a big national reform going on currently and it boils down to: Jeff Bezos ruined ecommerce for everybody. fuck you greedy bastard!!
a slew of states are jumping on a bandwagon to snipe up more sales taxes and create “Economic Nexus Laws”. this may not really apply to you at the start of your shop, but its something you need to be aware of for future ref.
basically states are passing laws that say, “If you make more than $XXXX or do more than XXX transactions selling to people here, that creates a state nexus and you need to get a sales tax permit with us.” which, is not ideal. the good thing is, most sales thresholds in these states are between $10k - $500k, so its not a problem you’ll face right off the bat. transaction numbers might be the one to watch out for, though. once you hit a few hundred transactions in a state it might create a nexus and you’ll have to start charging sales tax.
the problem is this: 1) every participating state has different thresholds, rules, and sometimes tax deductible/exempt items. thats a lot of fine print to go thru and toggling options on your shop, and a LOT of sales tax bookkeeping, filing, reporting, managing. 2) some ecommerce sales tax plugins and clients havent caught up yet to be compliant and convenient for online sellers, its a big job to program and categorize all these variables. when choosing your website host, be sure to vet their built in sales tax clients and see that they’re updating and streamlining capabilities ASAP. it may not be a concern now, but you wouldnt want your shop to boom and have to shut down, lose money and switch hosts to be eco-nex sales tax compliant.3) for successful solo start-up shops, this almost makes it impossible to file your own sales taxes once you pass those thresholds. this is like 30 states! youd spend so much time doing paperwork, its just not feasible. there will be a rising cost of economic nexus management and auto-filing services that you just cant run your business online without.
[ Everything You Need to Know Abt this Shit ] ( ^ full list of state regulations and updated with new developments so bookmark this page)
tl;dr: online shops are complicated, research literally every term you dont know and look up youtube videos on everything you suck at. if youre still motivated after being depleted of brain power, then go the fuck for it and all the Moon Crystal Power Make Up to you

for the end of year meme: 1, 8, 10, 14, 20 !! Please and thank you!
OH MAH GOD IT’S LATE!!! (I am so sorry @nalufever I finally got around to answering asks and I’m starting with the most recent ones!! It’s appropriate as they are for the “End of the year” meme I reblogged!)
Anyways, without further ado, let’s answer these lovely questions~! >w
1. First things first, did you have a good year?
A: Well, I guess that is the first thing to ask when jumping from one year to the other! ^_^ If I’m being honest the year started out really bad. Lots of family problems, stress from college and my horrible relationship was weighing me down and draining me of my energy. I never want to blame anything on anyone, but I was in a dysfunctional relationship with someone and I finally got out of it around April. It’s a long story, but I don’t feel like dwelling on that stuff. I’m stronger now! (I mean I “hope” so ^ ^;) I was happy that I got in the honours roll for my first year which gave me entry to showing my artwork to judges at the college I got to! It was an amazing experience and I made some cool friends along the way! It’s a small class, but we’re like a family. :D As for my actual family, I lost my grandma…She was an inspiration to me and even today I will always show my appreciation for my grandparents! Other than that, my family had gotten better and we can finally understand each other a bit more when it comes to communication which is always a plus!! :3 Even on here with Tumblr being who it is, I still have lots of friends that didn’t leave and I’m happy to see they are better from last year! In short, (cause you can see THIS is a paragraph xD) I think the year was wishy-washy! It was all over the place, but it made up for it at the end to be called “good”. ^v^
8. Which fashion trends did you hate?
(I thought of him when I thought of the word fashion xD Don’t kill me, I LOVE Max
A: Even though my mom is a lady who lives by fashion, I can’t say I know the styles of 2018! ;w; I looked up a source (well you know Vogue and all that jazz :/) to base my opinion on. I only think this would be easier if I could say what I “loved”, but it’s a hate one so gotta be mean xD lol. I mean I never “hate” anything, so I’m gonna give it a shot.
One thing I don’t like about fashion trends if I’m being frank is that it’s usually clothes on the runway. Many styles I see based on Vogue’s source are styles I can’t see the everyday person wearing. Personally, I wouldn’t wear half of those designs outside. That’s just me. My sense of style is a hybrid of my mom’s fashion she wears/sells, 80′s-90′s fashions and cutesy outfits. (that I think I’d look bad in ;w;) I’m gonna give a small bullet point list. (I know I always say small xD)
Arty Impressions - This was the first one on the article I read. From what I can gather it’s fashion with famous works printed on it. (Artworks, for example, Andy Warhol’s, screenprints) I mean I can see the connection, but for me wearing something with a reproduced art piece is hard for me to personally wear. LIke it has to be done like how T-shirts have a design in the middle or small embellishments on it to make me wear it. The example I saw is fun and creative, but for me, I couldn’t see myself liking/wearing those pieces. It depends. 5/10? I guess xD
Plastic/see-through material - This honestly has been a reoccurring style that I have seen. It’s become more prominent now according to last year’s trends. I can’t stand the “see-through” look. I don’t know what it is, but it’s just too awkward to wear outside. LIke people will defend that you can wear what you want, but for ME and ME Only, I can’t wear those kinds of stuff. I would feel very scared/concerned with how I look. (Even to myself) If you don’t know what I am referring to, I mean like that umbrella looking material. (I’ve added the source in the paragraph above for this question! ^_^)
Geometric/Flannel Print - I can never see myself liking the flannel scene. For pyjamas, no problem! To wear outside, I can’t bring myself to do that. You can see me in an old sweater, but flannel I don’t think any of my friends have seen me in that xD I just can’t say it’s aesthetically pleasing to me. I have a problem liking this style. Maybe I will when I get older, but as I’m young and creative I see myself wearing clothes for the young generation! :P (my mom says that anyways xD lol) The clothes that make you feel like partying, even though you don’t go outside like me xD lol
As much as I love talking about fashion, I think I would bore everyone with my opinions. xD (You’re definitely not here for these are you? xD If so, thank you)
10. What song sums up this year for you?
A: I don’t have a definite answer, but I went through a lot of things. Many times I wanted to be in a dream world…Like to escape everything. All the pain and depression. I still feel that way, but in 2018 it was WAY worse. This song I originally heard in Silent Hill: Downpour (A GAME I LOVE ;w;) was a song I thought of when I see this question. I think it’s a great song! sad, but I’d recommend it. The singer’s voice is lovely. It invokes so many emotions in me ;w; (I’ll give a youtube link)
Ed Harcourt - From Every Sphere
14. Favorite new TV show?
(I HAD to make it this guy >w
WARNING: HUGE ANSWER BELOW!
A: Well, as you may know, I don’t watch many shows anymore. I mostly play video games, but for the sake of this amazing question, I’ll say what anime(s) I did enjoy last year! I don’t think I’ve ever loved an anime as much as I love Gintama. It’s really funny because I originally “disliked” Gintama. It was a naive thing for the young me to have said at the time. I judged the show so harshly after seeing anime (IMO) being shat on with the usual themes and scenes I ALWAYS see. I began to give up on anime as a whole. My story starts when I was pissed at my brother telling me, “Gintama is amazing Tash, trust me you’ll regret hating it.” I answered with my normal response of, “ sure Ja, you ALWAYS say that. How will this be any different?” Maybe I shouldn’t have said that…Well, it’s too late now for present-day me. My brother showed me all the “humorous” parts first. (I honestly felt like he tricked me, but the show really starts that way xD) Anyways, we eventually watched a few episodes and I told him I didn’t understand the humour. (it’s honestly hard to get into if you’re not open-minded or don’t understand the comedy Sorachi uses) Until he decided to hit me with his ace, “The Shinsengumi Crisis Arc”. All I can say is, a different side of me was born. I started to see what a show could truly offer if it was done right, the way I wanted to see it. It’s hard to explain, but without Gintama’s sad/inspirational/happy/stupid/clever story writing/arcs I don’t think I would have ever gotten through 2018. I haven’t finished the episodes as of its recent update, but I really learned a lot from the show. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Sorachi for writing this masterpiece and I would 10000% recommend it to ANYONE! It’s a show that changed my views on people’s situations and lives. I think all the arcs are amazingly written and so far I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of it! It really got me in the feels. I can honestly say that if you can’t feel after seeing an arc in Gintama, you haven’t felt. It’s that amazing! (Then AGAIN, it’s an opinion not everyone will sadly share xD) Also, I am really enjoying Bleach! I’m sad at how it ended in terms of what things happened and I honestly hope Kubo will be ok. I loved his episodes and the earliest ones really touched my heart like Gintama. He’s also really great at making me cry every episode! :P
(GOD SORRY FOR THE ESSAY AND STUPID STORY LINES xD I’m sorry I can’t add a RM for this b/c then everything under can’t be seen like the other answers ;w;)
20. Did you develop a new obsession?
Well…YES! Many obsessions!! The real question is which is the one that I obsess over the most? Well I’ll put some bullet points to hopefully make it smaller xD
First of all, I don’t want to say it but I’ve taken a “liking” (what an understatement lol) to Gin Ichimaru from Bleach~! >////
I think everyone knows, but I have an obsession with cute/pink/pretty stuff. (Can it be called that?) I just LOVE pastel colours or pinks/blues/purples. Those kinds of soft colours you see in Hello Kitty toys or Fairy Kei/Kawaii merch (if I’m correct xD) I just have a HUGE soft spot for childhood stuff! I literally still act like a kid xD lol I don’t think I’ll be growing up anytime soon haha xD lol I just love to collect them! :)
Vaporwave I guess has become a new obsession and old art styles of the past! I just can’t stop being in awe at those marble statues! The curvature and bodies are so magnificent! >w
So many different art styles that are brought to this world! :D This is the truth! I absolutely love most styles I see on here and whenever I encounter them! >w
Other than that, I don’t think I have any other obsessions I know about :P Sorry, I’m super boring xD That’s the art student life lol (only me guys xD dw)

Prediction: this time next year, Undertale theories about W. D. Gaster see a massive resurgence in popularity as Undertale turns 6 years and 6 months old on 15 March 2022. A week prior, every official thing about Undertale vanishes from the internet. The soundtrack isn't on Spotify, the YouTube channel goes private, there's no merch on Fangamer, etc. You can't even buy the game anymore (but you still have it if you already own it because that would just make too many headaches for other people).
Toby keeps his Twitter, which has now been scrubbed of any references to the game, but refuses to acknowledge anything about it disappearing. On the 15th, he tweets in Wingdings, "the truth is you got owned nerd". The next day, everything goes back to normal, but Toby still acts like nothing was wrong in the first place.

Games inspired by Earthbound be like: Come closer, I'm just a quirky RPG about the power of friendship. I am going to fuck you up emotionally. Look at how cute and lovable my characters are! You will be devastated by my ending. My soundtrack slaps! Even the good ending is still kinda depressing. I'm an indie game!
(I'm counting Mother 3 in this, even though it's not really an indie game, but I guess the fan translation kinda is. It's technically inspired by Earthbound, though.)

MVP Recap
Ok, guys.....sorry this is late but I 100% waited until today to do this because #1 It’s faster to type it on the computer than on the phone and #2 I’m now getting paid to do this. (Who’s the real winner here). Also....I can post this with a fancy page break so it doesn’t hog everyone’s feed. But before the break....have a pic......
(As per my now usual.....I will post about my experience more than the dances, because you can find those online or will be seeing them yourselves.)
To start off the day, I finally got to meet My Girl and it was AMAZING! We met at her hotel then went to dinner. As we predicted, the girls were instant besties and so were we. (I love it when a plan comes together). When we got to dinner the girls sat with My Girl and I sat with her hysterical mom, Nonna. We had good food and good conversation and it was really nice to have a meal with “my people” and discuss DWTS the entire time. The best part, however, was Nonna telling me no less than 7 times “I don’t like-ah that Maks. He’s a jerk”. (read that in a thick Italian accent).
(Abbie killed it with this selfie)
After dinner, we found our way to the theater. I was no help, of course, because I don’t do downtown even though I’ve lived here for 34 of my 38 years. As we were looking for parking we saw the buses straight ahead, lining both sides of the street. We saw Ivan outside smoking (wtf dude) and JT. Once we parked, moved the car to a different spot, and took selfies, we made our way to the theater. As we were walking up we saw a guy with big girly hair standing by Val’s bus talking on the phone. We were all like “OMG....is that Val?!?!”. The girls and I started booking it and got closer, that wasn’t Val but OMG HOLY CRAP he was right there in front of us!! We attempted to approach him and the worlds grumpiest security guard stopped us in our tracks.
(Seriously.....look at her looking at me like I’m gonna rush him or something! Trust me when I say she plays a theme throughout the night and imagine that face any time I mention “Bitchy Security Guard” or “BSG”.)
Well.....Val didn’t take too kindly to his fans being treated that way and told us to come take pics but that we had to do it quick because he needed to get inside to get ready. I have to say....much like Brandon, pictures do not do this man justice. He is really really really good looking in person. I mean REALLY. Gahdamn, Valentin.
(Notice the guy in the red flannel who is NOT Maks and will not be Maks at any point in the evening no matter how many times we thought he was)
Y’all be proud of Abbie.....she was given strict instructions of things she was banned from saying (I hate Jenna because she STOLE you from me.....and You used to be my favorite but now you’ve been replaced because Jenna STOLE YOU). Girl handled herself like the sane fangirl we all knew she could be and didn’t even cry.
(Notice the death grip she has on him)
She showed him her purse and “may” have scared him a tad. He went “Whoa!”
(She keeps shirtless Val in the center.....because Mama ain’t raising no fool)
After we met Val.....and I failed to remember that I was lugging his book around in my damn purse and forgot to get it signed (I win at life, I swear), we were told exactly where we were allowed to stand and if we so much as took a deep breath, BSG reminded us that we weren’t allowed to move from that spot. Then she would sigh and roll her eyes at us. We tried to see other cast but it was getting chilly and windy (scroll back up and look at the chick’s pony in the pic of BSG) and it was getting closer to show time so they were all inside. Before we left we did get to see Katie the Nanny taking Shai from the venue to the bus. He is freakin adorable! His little curls and his little wave to his adoring fans were on point! I do not have a picture of this because #1 It happened super quick and #2 It’s not my baby and that’s kindof weird and intrusive and BSG was still side eying us and I’m pretty sure she would have taken my phone and deleted all the pics or something in retaliation. She was seriously bitchy and hated her job.
We got inside the venue and hit the merch stand. We all got our shirts (to my surprise, Abs picked the white tour tee instead of the Team Val tee). We found our way upstairs, got drinks, and found our seats. They were pretty decent seats except for we had to sit forward to see the very front of the stage if they laid down (a few times) and couldn’t see them picking the people out of the audience. The show was, of course, amazing. In my opinion, it was better than the DWTS show. Those Chmerkovskiy’s can dance!!!! I’ve heard that Peta is amazing live, but that doesn’t do her justice. She truly is the queen and literally commands the stage when she’s on it. There were moments of great group numbers, moments of hilarity (the dad dance and the stripper section), and gut wrenching serious moments. It really does tell a story through dance and we all loved it. What you probably don’t see in the YouTube videos of the dad dance is Kiki has twins. Abs is still laughing about those twins and when the baby sneezes and Maks yells “It got in my eye!”. During the Chippen Val/Magic Maks section they pull up the lady out of the audience. Let me tell you.....that lady was living her best life. She was so funny! Throughout the show we were annoyed by the group behind us. There were about 8 or 10 of them and they talked the entire show. I’m not talking quiet respectful whispers.....these bitches were straight up chit chatting. I did giggle at one point because the oldest of them was totally Team Nonna. They were doing their first talking section and this chick pipes up with “I’ve always hated Maks.....he’s such an arrogant jackass”. During the super emotional break up section....it was so quiet in there you could hear a pin drop. I had been annoyed the entire show, but at this point I started to get a little concerned that because it was so quiet in there (that section is riveting) that Maks and Peta would actually hear these bitches trying each others wine in an attempt to figure out which one had the tastiest. Seriously y’all.....they were SO LOUD! At this point, I turned around and said “PLEASE stop talking!”. They shushed to heated whispers through the rest of the show but if one of us so much as looked at each other they’d say “NO TALKING!”. At the end of the show they got up and left during the final bows (seriously the rudest group of drunk bitches ever). I booked it out after the show to pee. Abs didn’t have to so she went to stand outside of the bathroom to wait for the rest of our group. I hear “That’s HER!” and look over and these bitches were WAITING for me to come out of the theater! They start yelling “We are at a concert!!! Talking is expected in this type of situation! And you were rude too!!!” (of note....no one ever said they were rude) Abs is looking at me with huge eyes and I was like “Wait...how was I rude! You know what...never mind....Abbie get over here!”. I drug her into the bathroom still completely appalled at their behavior. Be proud that I was an adult and didn’t engage. Once all of our group was done, and these bitches are still standing there waiting, we just kind of grabbed the girls put our heads down and booked it out of there.
We got outside and went to stand by the buses again. BSG was still manning her post and was quite possibly in an even worse mood than before. She seriously hates fans. She should probably look into different employment. Thankfully we had a different security guard posted to our standing area. He was funny and nice and roughly the size of a mountain range. He didn’t seem to be that huge of a guy but he had a chest and shoulders that somehow blocked the entire sidewalk. He also must know us (is our picture up in these venues or something) because dude kept a super close eye on Abs. She must have looked shifty to him. He’s a smart man and I wish I would have taken a pic with him. We stood there and stood there and stood there some more. We had met Val, but wanted to talk to him again (because my damn book) and Makayla really wanted to meet Peta. My goal was to meet Val (for Abs of course....ha) and meet either Maks or Peta to personally give them Shai’s hat. Peta came out loaded down with bags and went to the bus. She came back out and headed our way to go into a different door (probably to get food, they all went in there) and said she’d come back. While we were waiting, we saw quite a few of the dancers coming out. Ivan was standing there talking to a crew member and since no one else would pipe up I yelled his name. He waved and I asked for a picture. He was super nice and came over (Mt. Everest was amused by this).
After meeting him, both girls (and the rest of the small crown of about 15-20) were oohing and aahing over how good he smelled and I realized that my damn sinuses are still acting up and I didn’t smell anything. I thought back to meeting Val (when both girls had the same reaction) and I thought my lack of smelling him was just because we caught him before the show and he wasn’t freshly showered.....apparently my inconspicuous deep breaths when I was standing with him were just fail. I’m super salty about this. Seriously.....I may not ever be ok with the fact that I didn’t smell Val. Shortly after we met Ivan, we saw Emily standing there. She also came over when I got her attention and asked for a picture. Mt. Everest was again amused by me while the others were plotting how they could always manage to be by me at bus meets because I not only recognized everyone by name, but was brave enough to call them over.
I think it was at this point that My Girl’s girl was attempting to convince her mom that they should come to Jax to do all tours with me and Abs.......I don’t think she was successful. Lol. At some point in this process, we saw JT a few more times. I really wanted to get a pic with him. I yelled his name and he threw a half hearted wave, then looked over and said “Oh Hey” and waved harder. He did not come over for a picture. He must actually have recognized me....he was like “Yep...that’s a nope all day long, that bitch is cray”. He has since been relieved of his best friend duties....but it’s ok because Nicole and Alyssa (Serge’s gf) have agreed that they are better choices anyways.
Finally.....the queen emerged and came right over to our group. She is strikingly beautiful in person and so so so tiny. She could probably share clothes with Abs! I gave her a hug and told her I had made a gift for Shai for his morning inspections. She laughed and then peeked in the bag. She awe’d and thought it was adorable! (Totally winning at life here).
She chit chatted with our group for a bit and talked about how they had had to adjust and reblock that day because the stage was a tight squeeze (which explains all the rehearsal stories) and lamented the weird lights outside that went from normal to pink to red (which is why the pics are kindof weird). Abs asked where Maks was and she laughed and said she had no idea and that she hadn’t seen him since bows. As she left she thanked me again for the hat and said she’d post it on insta. I’m really hoping he’ll wear it (toddlers are iffy on hats....and all things really) but I’m pretty sure she’ll post it some how if he won’t wear it.
(Of note....I could smell her.....she smells like a girl.....flowery lotion. It makes me more salty)
We waited a bit longer and still no sign of Maks or Val. It was getting late and even more chilly and windy and we decided to call it quits at 11. The time came and after me having to snap at Abs (she is a determined fangirl), we made our exit with the agreement that one of the remaining group would watch us until we got to the corner and they’d yell Maks’ name real loud so we could come running back. Mt. Everest thought this was hysterical and kept waving to us while we walked off looking back every 5 seconds. We made our way back to the hotel, I was again no help because while I can confidently get myself home from downtown....the hotel was on the other side of the river and I had no idea how to get there. The girls were passed out approx 37 seconds into the drive home. When we got there Nonna popped out of the van and looked down and saw her shirt button was undone. She goes “Oh look at me, all naked!” I died. She is the best and I might steal her. We sadly said our goodbyes and Abs and I headed home. After I got home (about 11:45) I went to check and saw @loveisstatic was the lone hold out and got to meet Maks. I bet she really got the wrath of BSG for waiting so long. (Girl...you gotta vouch for me on BSG....she was serious!) All in all, we had the absolute best time and I can’t wait to do it again.....next year.....after my wallet stops crying.

Reality Patch
(3393 - long read, messy, technically ‘unfinished’ whatever that means)
There was a little bubble of interest in the Miu Miu pre-fall collection in the twitterverse a few weeks (months? years?) back – it seemed torn out of time. Made in the winter, shown to press in January? Viral in the early summer? To be bought..… sometime? Part of the issue is the term ‘pre-fall’. Pretty certain that’s summer. This collection feels like it doesn’t exist. I guess if I ever went shopping, it would make more sense? But as a broke hut-dwelling internet denizen, I’m lost. It’s this money-spinning side to fashion commerce that’s the ‘real’ collection, but it’s named after a non-existent season. The pre-fall/resort problem lies in that it’s the collection that gets the least press, because not normally presented in a show, but also functions more solidly as merchandise. Certain agitators want to eliminate these non-events, and revert to twice-yearly seasons. It’s a fucking mess. What even is this? The fashion calender is broken and illogical. I’m going to write here about the Marni AW 20 ‘Alice in Wonderland’ collection alongside Moocher’s pre-fall thing, because I’ve got queries about patchwork and they play well together.
I have …complicated… feelings about the patchwork. We’re probably going to see more and more of it and I’m not sure we’re asking the right questions of it. How do we avoid it becoming just ‘aesthetic’ (in pop speak = empty), rather than a manner of process that informs continual work going forward and results in an un-replicable feeling, a new angle on reality (an….. aesthetic). How to stop it becoming something we all get bored of? Because, the only guarantee in fashion is boredom.
Patchwork collage
Miu was a solid offering – it maintains a certain quality, obvs – and is good in its own way according to its own logic as Miuccia’s offerings usually are. A vision of commerce, yes, but also a kaleidoscopic frozen moment of girlhood that wants to aid us in our navigation from then to there, the ‘there’ being an upcoming un-season (A/W/S/S?) and maybe a sense of maturity. Now, there’s no point in me complaining about low quality info from the establishment on their dealings then failing to engage thoroughly with work when it is delivered in detail on multiple fronts (written aspect, full campaign, video that I can’t find anymore but remember seeing unless it was a hallucination, and look book – many angles).
Embellished bodices/check check/white fuzzy tights/nice shiny heels/19th c take on afghan jacket very good/prairie psycho/much boring merch – (awkward stances suggest candid, ambivalent)

Our press release ponders:
‘When was the last occasion you lived in an enclosed world, where time stretched out, seemingly endlessly, in front of you? When was the last time your interior world felt as important as the exterior one, where you were free to imagine and to contemplate who you might actually want to be? Chances are it was when you were a teenager, with all of the triumphs and trepidations that entailed, particularly if you were a teenage girl.’
Well, it sure sounds like it sucks to be a real adult who gave up on their dreams. When was the last time I felt free in my internal playground? Every day of my life, bitches. I’m your anomaly, Prada copy-writer. But, point taken. Work sucks when you’re doing it for other people, and we’ve all had times when you feel caught and pinched and empty in our creative attempts. And now, we’ve all been grounded by our stupid parents for the last few months. Stuck in our rooms. Some by choice, some not. And if we’re allowed out right now, the second spike is coming and we’re all depressed about the limits we have to live under in order to reduce advancing death.
‘A dream-like, interior world is conjured through Douglas Irvine’s photography to match the external, magical manifestation on display in the clothing. A blur of florals and glittering visual embellishment, diaphanous drape and ecstatic movement belie the strict foundations for both the images and garments.’
campaign collage
So far, so wordy and detailed. A world is glimpsed. One with blurs but strict foundations. A real world made hazy. We have classic codes walking in a trepidatious vein. Miu Miu girl is testing out the limits of her horizons, playing with her identity through her clothes and thinking to herself, how much do I want to give away? What will I keep? But the text continues:
‘Wearing a clothing collection that splices the utilitarian with the formal, the everyday with the extravagant, delicate artisanal embellishment is contrasted with and applied to a notion of the sturdily homespun. Here, nineteenth century literary heroines, both fictional and actual, are channelled, the sources of teenage-girl bedroom revolutions in both style and substance, yet worn by a new generation of everyday heroines with all of their contrasting clothing choices.’
We lose track here. Not sure this collection actually feels ‘artisanal’ or ‘sturdily homespun’. there’s the late 20-teens pop refrain of dark psychedelia’s fixation on moth-eaten fin de siècle grandness, the upending of 19th C avant-garde in the counter-culture’s looping democratisation. We have an eclecticism, a thriftiness, a carelessness with the past symptomatic of isolated children playing with a mish-mash of pieces born of hemmed-in theatrics.

As for Marni’s Alice in Wonderland, I have languishing notes which seem as old and tired as the idea of 2019. I was practising twitter threadiness, and got as far as notes on Milan before the covid freeze set in my mind. I like mixed responses, it’s the only thing that feels fair, but with those Milan collections I couldn’t achieve any sort of resolution or clear point. I didn’t know how I felt anymore. I’m unresolved in how I feel about criticism. It should be functional, but not necessarily constructive, if I feel the need to tear something down, as a critic that is within my job description. I’ll write a proper bit on the perils of fashion criticism from a distance, but in short I feel that it’s unfair to criticise a designer’s work from afar, especially negatively, but that until the fashion community realises the value of a public culture of critique (criticism being the only process by which you can hope to form an art system), real critics engaged with honestly parsing the strengths and weaknesses of fashion practice in service of public health will have to criticise from afar. This will impact the quality of the work, but it is hoped the audience can accept the pinch of salt required of virtual critique of a virtual fashion experience. The subject of the criticism here isn’t the clothes. I’m not asking questions of fit, of quality, I’m asking whether this is good fashion communication, as a time-dependent media phenomenon. And, yes, I know I’m late on this one. Temporal fashion stress must take a rain check at present.
Marni –
“collaged from the beginning to the end—from macro to micro to fractal. It’s about putting together remnants.”
cut velvet woven by hand in a factory in Venice on looms that were originally designed by Leonardo da Vinci—a vanishing, time-consuming craft that Risso understandably wants to “protect and exalt.”
“Are we in a psychedelic world and we need to be more grounded, or are we in a caged world and we need to be freed by psychedelia?”
THREE MARNI
risso Quotes:
“Finding beauty in the leftovers,”
“There’s a beauty in the past. I was kind of upset lately, thinking about people on their phones -- what about these objects that take hours to make, like these Venetian tapestries?”. mosaic of the remnants.
new, conceptual territory,
remnants of the previous collections
“It’s a celebration of DIY, Alice in Wonderland, and it’s about her spirit, her searching and questioning,”
the Cheshire Cat’s “We’re all mad here” mantra, as he talked about mandalas and allowing time for ideas to grow.
“Her spirit is within each creature, always wondering and questioning,”
“Making this collection has been the strangest mystery,” he confided. “It’s almost as if it regenerated itself – recreated itself – like an insatiable mosaic.”
THREE MARNI
At their best they’re the insatiable fractal mosaic he speaks of – something that situates you betwixt density and freedom. Was patchy – moments of clarity, moments of aimlesslness.. Appreciate the fashion-as-curious-adventure methodology. Ties and openness and rotation were true to Marni.. Materials – twisted tradition meeting rational plain cottons hit the mark. Gold rings, like they’ve melted through from another dimension. They were scattered over the body, but I was left wanting to know more of this motif – what if it become structural, like a portal to another plane? Patchwork that doesn’t feel done in good faith. Like a trick. None of these shapes are done in the spirit of patchwork, like the wrong kind of luxury. Too much care is given to appearing careless, but a reach for dizzying angles in effect sidelines affect – it feels tidily resolved, and then mussed around at the end. I’m probably wrong on many fronts about the reality of their process. But what I’m feeling right now is that if all you’re aiming for is the ‘look’ of patched pieces rather that the ‘ethic’ or process of thrift, then you’ll just get trapped in an endless empty labyrinth of false choices. It’s not about the look, it’s about shiftinG your total parameters of design decision making going forward. Additive.
I’m still figuring out how I feel about this. Both these collections suffer from a neat, pat resolution of the question of the deadstock aesthetic that avoids the hard work of engaging with the limitations of that mode of work. Where is the tension? Where is the sacrifice? The loss of freedom in thrift must be acknowledged. If you’re telling me a story about a lost girl in a crazy world that makes no sense, why do her questions of her physical environment feel so impersonal? Many designers are going to turn to patchworking, out of both necessity and fashion gameplaying. Each designer is going have to work their way to an individual conversation with the difficult questions of recycling while avoiding the traps of the easy way out. Both teams failed at this test, in these collections. Sustainability isn’t easy, or anywhere close to being properly engaged with by our establishment figures. (Viktor & Rolf are a good example of recycling feeling right and thought about and cared for).
Viktor&Rolf samples
I’m reading Lolita at the moment. (CAN YOU TELL?) I’m not a good reader. (CAN YOU TELL?) A.D.D., I guess. I get bored and drift off to fantasyland. But here’s a stab at some fancypants analysis: The far-off subject, Lolita herself, is overlooked by the narrator’s masturbatory myopia. Her exploration of her own girlhood/womanhood is reduced and flattened by her abuser who needs her to be something else, something thing-y. A two-dimensional being. The tension between predation and autonomy, her wounded rebellion and navigation of self are so distant in the book you can’t help but want to reach out to her, through her abuser’s hideous twisted lens. Humbert’s POV colours everything, Lolita isn’t permitted her own take, everything she does is ridiculous and gazed down upon, he feels he’s permitted to just take her, to prioritise his own long-abated lust without thought of the consequences to her sense of self.
This vibe I’m analysing here, the bruised and fuzzy self-discovery of Miu Miu and the lost-play of Marni, kind of feels like it hasn’t really shrugged off the top-down, hidden, extractive gaze of the cornered, self-pitying male power player. Maybe the viewer is Humbert. Maybe I’m Humbert. Maybe you’re Lolita. Maybe vice versa. But he’s there, in the corner, or taking the picture. Someone’s always taking it in, and jealously building a crypto-fantasy version of the girl, even as our self-birthing adolescent is feeling towards a way to fight it off.

Spring 2020 was a fucking twisted, disorienting, stretched moment. Tough times for fashion practitioners, not just in terms of lost profits or mob moralising (pppeoppllle arree dyyinnnngggg howww daree you talkkkk aboutttt fashioonnnn) but in the nuts and bolts of fashion practice – if the role of the fashion designer is to collaborate with their wearers in plotting a path to the future, when a world-re-orienting catastrophe occurs, it rapidly recontextualises their attempts at constructing a scaffold around the unknown. The idea that the future can be planned for and known through schedules and aesthetic anticipation gets rumbled. The foundation of that building site got a bit cracked during this Spring’s quake. Mapped onto ongoing structural issues in, what I guess in this analogy is a renovation of our historic temporal orientation casino, basically fashion collapsed in its usual confidence along with the economy (economics being fashion with numbers and no fun so it’s respectably masc. vom). Who knows who’s going to go out of business. There may not be a Miu Miu or a Marni or whoever in the future. Names we take for granted are just going to die. That’s a loss for the art aspect. Cus these guys are creative, mad geniuses who deserve a healthy context for their vision. (OTOH: die, fashion industry, die! I dance in the glow of the flames of your destruction with gleeee). These two collections actually speak to me across the span of the last six months, which takes some doing. They succeeded in the criteria that we should actually apply to fashion practice: satnav for the social soul. As sense of protection from the twists of time. A hand to hold. Someone to talk to. And time is super twisty rn. Good job holding on as we fall through the looking glass, random Italians! Now, to work.
COLLAGE
Colours – piecework – slippery glistening rainbow lensflares – Marni, FR places himself as an agent of chaos, someone with a hidden explanation refusing to submit to logic and set ways, a spanner in the works of Alice’s complacency.
Patchwork, rhizomatic? (????, what is that. Idk, just sounds funnnn), no beginning and end, things relating to one another in disjointed, flexible ways. FR gives is little hints at the instability that patching offers, the early looks in Miu are far too comfortable. In the cut, sheets are formed out of set shapes – traditional, in the spirit of that half-remembered literary heroine – but neat, very very neat. Happy patchwork . Not patchwork that’ll prompt you to any alternative engagement with your world. FR is poking holes, even burning them out with molten gold, playing with the limits of ‘traditional’ or easily molded pieces. There’s skirts that feature block pieces - an armhole, a curve that any dressmaker will recognise, but set elsewhere, surrounded by other pieces so that the shaping becomes as redundant as Alice’s desperate attempts to right her upside down world. That ordered, shaping impulse is pawed at in the Marni work, but indulged in by Miu Miu. Our Miu Miu heroine feels more like an only slightly misunderstood brat, but Marni’s Alice is strung out and barely even human anymore. I’m disappointed in both approaches, but Marni, as the radically abstract collection that’s pushing concept on us, is the one that actually fails in its aims. Mrs Prada & Co are aware of the limits of commercial offerings. They’re happy to speak when permitted, in the lulls between commerce. It’s pragmatic and unadventurous, romantic within set bounds. It’s a walk in the park, where Marni is a clumsy trip through an open manhole cover.
COLLAGE
I said at the beginning of this that if we’re only going to see more patchwork as a process we actually have to grapple with it, and there’s a risk at this point in fashion that the fashion people (c’est moi aussi, mfs) are going to go ‘oh, been there, done that, on to the next thing’ without ever actually engaging with it as a means of creating fashion. What does (BRANDNAME) recycling look like, what makes it (BRANDNAME) in a way that become part of a lexicon long term rather than another sticky-plaster? Patchworking is many things, but what are its fundamentals? It’s a way of forming textile surfaces that accepts that which is available. It’s humble and more concerned with ethics than end result. The small squares/triangles in traditional American quilting are ways to systematically optimise waste pieces and merge them with other pieces. This in its own turn creates more micro-waste, perhaps to be used as stuffing, but forcing scraps into legible grids is very strict and imperial, the grid being an easy way of organising a surface from above. Grids and precise geometries are more like things overlaid, not bubbling up from beneath. They’re simple and readily comprehensible. There’s other forms of merging irregular pieces: think of rag-rug like textiles, crocheting with strips, or applique. Certain aesthetic choices can be made when you’re actually working with the idea of recycling waste material, rather than looking for an end-result before you even started. A cut piece has an end but with patchwork it can become endless. There’s kind of something anti-hierarchical about it. Waste pieces formed out of negative space can relate to each other not in the sense of ‘this looks pretty’ but more in the sense of ‘spontaneity rules’.
I’m realllly self-consciousness about existing in the purgatory between between fashion and theory. Theory thinking of itself as ‘too serious’ for fashion and fashion of itself ‘too fun’ for complex discussion (sidebar: can we stop talking about showstudio as if it is in any way innovative? I can’t watch those videos. I have classic fashion goldfishitis. Where is my colour and jazziness and silly nonsense. Why tf do fashion people think ‘oh, critique! must be unfashion. Must sit in room being boring with no cuts or editing. Here, watch a fucking zoom call, fuck your need for beauty.’ The motherfuckers are working against us. Hate, Hate, Hate, you fucking jerks). So, my difficulty lies in how to dodge the hierarchical perception of theorising, people assuming you’re talking down rather than across, when they’re often dyslexic or disinterested in this kind of stuff because they’ve been taught to think it’s ‘beyond’ them or it’s just some bullshit they’ve found boring/embarrassing/trauamatizing. There’s nothing wrong with finding something boring when it’s engaging in elitist and hierarchical perceptions of ‘intellctualismsm’ or ‘quality’. There’s so much work to do, so much rubble to excavate. I’m not writing about Deleuze & Guattari’s analyses of patchwork for a reason here: I haven’t read them. I attempted A Thousand Plateaus in undergrad, gave up, and since then have really struggled with this feeling of being caught between modes of being - visual/verbal/temporal. Fashion zonked, theory enraged. I have a deep respect for the communicative power of dress and fashion media, paired with immense frustration at the slight engagement with complexity in the culture. Theorizing can be colourful, can be fun, can be bright. Fashion doesn’t need to abandon these wonderful things in order to have some self-respect. In fact, its self-respect will only be assured when it learns to push forward towards aggravating, complex dialectics in its own styles of discourse that fashion people actually want to engage with. I expect at some point within the next decade I’ll find a way to develop my self-confidence in reading beyond wikipedia and want to return properly to the topic of quilting and patchwork in relation to rhizomes and abstract post-structural philosophy, but I’m not there yet. Maybe there’s nothing there in D&G, just hot air, or maybe fashion isn’t worthy of theorising. Both suck in various ways. I’m not confident enough in the theory realm to interact with any self-assurance in a way that computes in both worlds. I’m only just learning to piece myself back together after trying to work within fashion’s established methods and failing. I’m here slowly feeling my way towards engaging properly as a dedicated reader and a dedicated fashion practitioner. But the responsibility to push forward and make fashion practice sufficiently rigorous, self-reflexive, critical and engaged with other fields while playing to its own strengths as discipline that actually brings something to the table, without the solidarity of peers engaged in the same questions, it gets a bit disorienting sometimes.

accidental confessions from the matsu bros? like lets say that their crush's doing something really cute or just being there for them and supporting them and they just subconsciously say "i love you" if that makes sense??
Hey so uh it’s been a while… Don’t really have an excuse, just laziness plus all three mods are in college now. I plan to write hopefully one every week now that season 2 is coming up in just 2 months! So yeah, enjoy and hopefully I can get stuff out semi consistently!
~Mod Jyushi
You waited anxiously for Osomatsu to return from the pachinko parlor. He had been out nearly every day playing all day from the moment he woke up to the late hours of the night. You were starting to get ticked off that he almost seemed to be avoiding you. You attempted to go to the parlor and when he saw you he ran off elsewhere. You hadn’t minded at first, since you knew he loved pachinko, but his attempts to avoid you hurt a lot. Finally one day you caught him before he could get away.
“Osomatsu! What’s your problem?!” You demanded.
“Huh? W-what are you talking about?” He stuttered, fluster evident in his voice.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about! Why have you been avoiding me?” You asked.
You felt tears sting the edges of your eyes, letting all your anger out from the past week. You started to ramble, words pouring out of your mouth, not really paying attention to what you were saying. At last, Osomatsu stopped you.
“Alright, I’ll tell you why! I wasn’t avoiding you necessarily, I just wanted to take you on a date!” He shouted over you.
That made you stop and stare at him, eyes wide and a small blush on both your faces.
“You…what?” You asked, flabbergasted.
“I wanted to take you on a date and played pachinko to get the money,” He said.
Now you felt like a total jerk. Your stomach ached at your rudeness and you felt like crying. You apologized profusely, but Osomatsu stopped you.
“No, I get it, I messed up by trying to avoid you. So I’m sorry for that,” he said, “but will you still go on a date with me?”
You hesitated for only a moment, but quickly agreed, smiling from ear to ear.
Karamatsu was taking a shower and you were mindlessly scrolling through your phone. You happened to go to his house often, and would sometimes find that he was in there. When you did come over at those times, you heard him singing loudly, which you doubted he knew that you heard. Normally, you’d block it out, but you happened to hear your name in between his mouth guitar solos. You quieted yourself and leaned closer towards the bathroom. The splashes of water could be heard as he stopped singing for a moment. You thought he was probably about to get out and get dressed, but you heard him talk once more, this time quieter. You had to place your ear against the wall to hear him better. Once you did, you heard him pouring his heart out about you. A shocked expression crossed your face as you realized he was practicing confessing to you. You zoned out as you thought about how much heart and soul you could hear as he spoke about you, and soon after Karamatsu walked out and saw you leaning against the wall, staring off into space. He called your name, but you didn’t respond until he shook your shoulder. You squeaked before looking at him, slightly confused as to how he was standing next to you. As you regained your composure, you looked at him with a slight blush across your features. You steeled yourself and told him that you heard his confession, and that you accepted his feelings. His first response was panic as he apologized for no reason, but stopped when he realized you felt the same way. His face lit up and questioned if you were serious. “Dead serious,” you said as you quickly pecked his lips.
You and Choromatsu were waiting in line together, outside one of Nyaa-chan’s concerts. This was one of her final stops before leaving Japan for almost a year, so you decided to go with Choromatsu who may or may not have begged you to come with him. Your legs were starting to ache as you’d been standing in line for nearly 7 hours now. To your relief, the line was finally starting to move, and because you had come so early, you were near the front. You gave the ticket taker yours and Choromatsu’s tickets and walked into the big concert hall. You gazed up around at just how tall this place was.
“This place is huge Choroma-” You said as you looked down only to find the man in green had disappeared from your side. You looked around, trying to spot his bright green hoodie and pink Nyaa-chan hat, but no luck. You sighed, but you’d almost expected this, so you walked around the venue, checking out the merch on sale. A large glittery sign on one of the tables caught your eye. Win a Special Edition Nyaa-chan figurine! was written in pink, with a Nyaa-chan figurine as big as your torso and a small bingo cage set beside it. You eyed the peculiar set up and soon the vendor spotted you. He said a little spiel about his booth, and said for $5 if you could guess the exact number rolled from the bingo cage you can get the Nyaa-chan figurine. You thought it was pretty dumb, since being able to guess the exact number is pretty difficult to do, but the thought of getting it for Choromatsu outweighed the thought. You dished out $20 and decided if you didn’t get it in these four tries, you’d just walk away. The vendor greedily snatched the money and began rolling the small cage a little too roughly. He asked what your first number was, still spinning the cage. You thought for a second and said, “N35.” He stopped the cage and grabbed the first ball, “N43, too bad, just a little off” he said almost mockingly. You glared at him and said “I16.” He rolled again for another good 15 seconds and pulled out the second ball. “O68,” he snarked. You were getting pissed at this guy, as you could easily tell he was enjoying conning you out of your money. He spun it for even longer, and you shouted “B12!” He smirked, and grabbed the ball and was about to read it when his face fell. He quickly read the ball, “B14″ before he quickly went to put it back in, but in his haste dropped the ball. It rolled in an almost perfect way that the number faced you, reading B12. You grabbed the ball and shouted in excitement and to rub it in the vendor’s face. He looked like he was about to try something when suddenly you felt a tap on your shoulder. You turned around to see Choromatsu standing there.
“I GOT YOU THE FIGURINE!” You screamed, both over the chatter of the venue and in pure ecstasy for winning the prize. Choromatsu stared at you for a second before noticing the giant Nyaa-chan behind you.
“You won this?!” He stared at you in disbelief. You nodded vigorously. He gawked for a few more seconds before hugging you, and in a moment of pure happiness exclaimed, “I love you!”
Choromatsu stopped suddenly and realized what he’d said. He quickly stuttered out a string of excuses, but him having feelings for you too made you so happy that you just kissed him right on the spot. You closed your eyes while he stared at you in shock. You slowly pulled away before saying, “I love you too.”
You knew Ichimatsu wasn’t the best with words, but you still cared for him. You weren’t sure how you felt for him however, you knew you liked him, but… gah, it confused you to no end. At least, until one day, it clicked in your head as you watched him rest his head in your lap like a small kitten and your heart melted. Now the problem was did he like you too? He was just so distant from everyone, but as you thought it over, he wasn’t with you. You worried that if you told him you loved him, he would turn you away, ruining your relationship with him. You didn’t want to do that, so you started avoiding him. At first it was simply not answering a question he asked, then pretending not to hear him when he called you. You thought it would help, but it just made things worse. You had been walking to clear your head when you heard a familiar meow from an alleyway. You turned to look and saw one of the cats Ichimatsu would feed. You smiled and scratched the top of his head, earning a soft meow from the feline. The small cat ran back into the alley and as if some unknown force was pulling you with it, you followed the cat. Quietly you walked a few meters behind the car when you saw an all too familiar purple hoodie squatting near other cats. You were about to leave, knowing this probably wasn’t the best way to “clear your head” when you heard him mutter something quietly. You stopped, and decided just to listen for a moment, since it was rare to hear him talk most of the time.
“I don’t know what to do… I don’t know what I did wrong” Ichimatsu said, “They just stopped talking to me.”
Wait, was he talking about me? You thought as you leaned closer, trying to hear him better.
He continued, “Maybe they finally realized I was garbage and they had better ways to spend their time.”
You felt your heart drop as you just knew he was talking about you. You stepped towards him about to apologize for how you’d treated him when his next words froze you in place.
“I thought I’d finally found the one…”
Your throat clenched, holding back tears as you realized how horrible you’d treated Ichimatsu these past weeks and you ran out to him, startling him. He jumped into a protective stance as a cat would and calmed after noticing it was you. However that quickly changed as he realized what he’d said. He started sputtering, trying to explain he’d been delusional and that you hadn’t heard correctly, but you shushed him.
“It’s okay, I feel the exact same way.”
You thought it’d be a fun idea to go out with Jyushimatsu for some night time festivities, but now you slightly regretted it. You’d arrived at the bar a few hours earlier, and did some karaoke and drinking games and general activities, and well… you held your alcohol a lot better than Jyushimatsu. After about four shots of different varieties of drinks, he’d taken off his hoodie and gone around being super lovey dovey and chatting it up with everyone. Normally this didn’t bother you, you knew he was like this when he drank, but you couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous. You couldn’t put your finger on the exact reason, but it bothered you. Soon, he came up to you, barely standing straight and his cheeks a bright red as he stared at you for a second before giving you a sloppy kiss and shouting out “I love you, [Name]!” Surprise fell onto your face, and you suddenly forget anything you had been jealous about. You felt your face heat up, whether it was from the alcohol or the shock of his words, you didn’t really care. He didn’t notice your expression and hugged you again. Your mind was going into overdrive, yet you felt strangely calm. Probably a side effect of all the drinks, you thought. He let go and stared at you, seemingly waiting for a response. You smiled and gave a quick peck back, saying “I love you too,” laughing whole heartedly.
You and Todomatsu were pretty bored, laying on your backs in the Matsuno’s living room. It was a comfortable silence, but Todomatsu suggested they go out and walk around for a while. Since you both had been laying there for around an hour, you thought it was a good idea to go out and stretch your legs. You stopped at a few stores and browsed, but ended up not getting anything. Stopping at a small pizzeria, you guys ate and ended up laying down near a river in the local park. The sun was setting off in the distant and everything had a glowing tint to it. Todomatsu looked over at you and his chest puffed up just because, Wow I am so lucky to be with them. He scooched over and grabbed your hand hesitantly. You looked at him for a moment and at the same time your eyes met. He stared for a moment before blurting out, “I love you so much.” Your eyes widened at the words and he immediately tried to pass it off. He was afraid you were about to reject him when you shushed him by placing your lips on his own. He was the one wide eyed now as he processed what you’d done. You just laughed and said, “I love you, too.”

boy, oh boy have I neglected posting this concert experience story (3 ½ months overdue yike) for the people who probably could care less about it, but it is finally here, & it is v v v extensive as it includes basically every detail I can recall accurately.
Here ya go, curious cats:
I went to the show in Santa Ana, CA on March 5th. I got to the venue maybe 20 or 30 minutes after doors opened, so the openers were already in the middle of their set. I dragged my older guy cousin w/ me (since my sister was doing a photoshoot in San Diego that night + the next day), & during the opener’s set, he pushed me to the front of the crowd since he knew how long I had been waiting to see hippo. Then they came out & did their thing, & holy shit. Okay, it was so worth waiting almost 2 years. Their set was so fucking surreal; I may or may not have almost cried.. Also in the middle of their set, some guy pushed to the front to let Jake take a hit off a joint, & it was p iconic lol.
After the show, the crowd waited like 5-10 minutes to disperse due to the hope of a possible encore. I then got merch & waited inside the venue for maybe 15 minutes since the last time I was at the Observatory, the band I saw met fans inside the venue, but after seeing most of the fans walking outside, I followed.. Also b/c they kicked everyone out lol.
There were maybe 60-70 (possibly even more) fans outside waiting in the parking lot for the guys, but hippo had chosen to wait everyone out until there were 30 fans max which was 1 - 1 ½ hours later. During that time, I made a few new friends since my cousin decided to just wait inside of his car for me to do my thing.
(Whistler left right after the show to spend time w/ his family, sooo y'know.. I didn’t get to meet him.)
The first boy to come out was Nathan, but he stopped to smoke a cigarette w/ security lol. We were on our way to meet him half way, but we stopped when we saw he was busy (DON’T BOTHER THEM IF THEY SEEM BUSY OKAY). We then just waited for another one of them to come out or until he was finished.
Jake:
Jake came out next, so we went over to him to take pictures & whatnot. I’ve been promising him a lame dad shirt for the past two years, & I still have yet to provide. I apologized for that as we were about to take our picture, & he simply replied, “aww, next time!” whilst rubbing my arm. Not to be dramatic, but Jake is pure sunshine. I wish I had more time to chat w/ him, but so many others were trying to speak to him as well, so after the pictures, the girls & I were off to the next boy.
Nathan:
We went to Zach since Nathan was still smoking, but everything w/ Zach will be addressed last since that was most of it.. SO after seeing Zach the first time around in the night, we went to Nathan, & my conversation w/ him is kind of a blur, but basically the gist & a few specifics: he called himself a whore (I briefly explain here for those wanting further explanation), he told me to get out of California, & I called him a hippie which he asked me to explain myself, but he was literally rolling a joint as he was giving his “stop being on your phones, go outside, & interact w/ your friends” spiel. (One of the girls took a snap video of him, & in it he says “like at the same I want the ability to be able to be here now, so.. that’s what cigarettes are all about.” C’mon hippie sticker boy, admit it.) I also brought up his twitter & how this one time late at night, & he was the only one of the boys awake, so he was bored & asked to be sent poetry. I sent a realist suggestive poem about me “doing homework when it should be you” (my recent works are definitely more tasteful & not that trashy.. but sticker boy told me the other night (in direct reference to my previous statement) that “trash is & will always be better than we think.” sooo maybe he enjoyed it? I don’t know about that cryptic boy), & he told me he didn’t remember. Then he asked me what year this happened, & I told him it happened in 2015 to which he said, “I was a different man then” lol okay, child. Little something about sticker: he comes off as a very serious person when you speak to him, but he isn’t at all. Although, he is very formal. When I first went up to him, he went in for a handshake, but I had been waiting too long for this to be a handshake; I needed it to be a hug. We then introduced ourselves.. Ooooh. I also talked to Nathan about his sister, Madeline, b/c she’s been following me on Instagram for a couple years (I didn’t even follow her first lol), & oml the look on his face when I told him that. He rolled his eyes & said, “ohhh, Madeline.” It was hilarious (love you, Maddie). Overall, we just had a 5-10(??) minute conversation about life (in the midst of the conversation, someone was pulling out of the parking lot blasting one of their songs (can’t remember which one.. violet maybe?), & Nathan yelled, “turn that shit off.” It was iconic).. Then I went back over to Zach.
Zach:
Background info:
About a week before the show, I was tweeting this boy so much? Within a week probably 30 of my tweets were liked by him; it was so excessive, & soz to anyone who was following me during that time b/c yikes. Anyway, basically the main part of it was that we were finally going to fight, & the whole Zach only liking tweets & fighting has been a running joke since 2015 okay, so this isn’t new. He also agreed to “match” outfits w/ me, hence the denim shirt over his sweatshirt.
(You can peep the embarrassing twitter thread here. Some tweets contain their own threads too js lol.)
At the actual show:
When Z finally came out, the girls I was w/ & I booked it over there, & he was chatting w/ some people, & he talks for a long time which is really nice, but also time consuming y’know. (Also oml okay as we were waiting for them to finish their conversation, this bih smiled, & I kid you not, my weak ass squealed a bit. Like those dimples? Are you fucking kidding me?) Anyway, when our turn finally came to, I went first since we had a whole plan going. It was a thing where I was going to greet him by saying something vaguely rude, so he’d be aware of the whole fighting thing b/c if I greeted him like I actually would have w/ the whole “hey, how are you,” bringing up the fight would’ve been a tad awkward, thus “Zach, you ass” was born.
(You can watch that on my twitter here. It’s also part of the thread, but eh y’know.)
Subsequently after the denim shirt talk (the video cuts right before this, but he actually apologized for not bringing his other denim shirt, & I told him that I was just happy he even brought/wore one b/c I asked, & he said, “yeah, well thanks.” what an awkward angel), I called him out about some twitter things such as why he doesn’t reply, & he said, “I just like b/c it’s like a binary sort of thing.” Then I told him that I actually would have brought him candy in which this bitch smugly replied, “maybe I don’t like candy.” Uhm this boy liked the tweet, & if it is actually a binary thing, he is indicating that he does like candy smh. Anyway, I asked, “what about donuts or something?” This bih then decided to sass me aGAIN by saying, “Whistler likes donuts,” & I was so done. BOY, NO SHIT. EVERYONE & THEIR MOTHER KNOWS WHISTLER LOVES DONUTS HOLY FUCK. I WAS USING THAT AS AN EXAMPLE FOR A SUGGESTION. Ugh then he said that I should bring him fruit, so I asked which is his favorite, & I thought to myself, “he better not say mango,” & HE DID. I was disgusted, everyone else was disgusted b/c of my reaction, & it was a mess. Then we continued to talk about fruit for a few more minutes (it was a long fruit convo) such as the correct way to eat grapefruit (peel the skin & put sugar on it), pomegranate being bomb, & yet another opposing opinion which was on putting tajín on fruit (Z hasn’t had it, so he believes that “salty things don’t belong on fruit.. that’s for pretzels” ..tajín is chili powder that tastes like candy, & it is amazing, especially on watermelon). Then I said bye to him after we took our pictures, helped the girls I was w/ take their pictures, & we went over to Nathan (which I already went over).
Second time around talking to my mango bitch: So after talking to Nathan, I went back over to Zach alone since the girls I was w/ decided to leave (it was maybe 12:15 AM at this point, & it was Sunday night, soooo y’know). My phone had also died when I was waiting to talk to Zach the first time, but then it came back on by itself when I was waiting to talk to him the second time. It was living on the edge, so I ran back to my cousin’s car to get my portable charger (we had parked right by the bus in the very front of the venue, so it was very convenient), but tHAT WAS ALSO ON THE EDGE. I went back in line, & I was the last person to talk to Zach, so it was a long time spent. We said hi again, & we took so. many. pictures. These were all snap filter ones, & we did that for a few minutes. Okay, so my bitch ass oml I made him retake a few, & at one point, I actually said, “ew, I don’t like this; we have to retake it,” & hE LAUGHED AT ME, & THEN HE MIMICKED ME. I can’t believe. Ugh okay, but a part of this was that we were going to do the infamous face swap filter, but it was unavailable, & we realized it was on the picture face swap instead right as it was finishing loading, & we both said, “wait, this is the picture one” & almost switched w/ the picture I had just taken w/ Jake. Then I asked him how tall he was, & he said, “I don’t know, 6′1?” I told him that I think he’s def 6′2. I also asked him if he was sick since I noticed he had been coughing a bit throughout the night, & he said he was, & I just kNEW he would probably get me sick too, & wow what a surprise, he did. Afterwards, I had him record a video for my best friend who couldn’t come (she started liking hippo when I did, but she is not as present in the “fandom” anymore), & I asked him if I should use the flash or not b/c I did not want to blind him w/o warning, he said whatever I want is fine, so I chose to do it w/o the flash, but ahh okay, I kept having to wave him around to try to be in better lighting, & I felt so bad. Then finally we said our goodbyes after he noticed that I was actually shivering, & he said, “well, it’s cold. I gotta go get warm; you gotta go get warm. It was so nice to see you,” & we hugged, but then we ended up walking in the same direction. As we finally broke away & I was almost to the car, he calls over & says, “I’m still only going to like your tweets,” & I deadass call back over & say, “you are annoying as fuck.”
Post related events:
So when I got home from the show, I took to twitter to express my love & annoyance for such mango boy to acknowledge which included me tweeting him less than an hour after I left saying that he’s cute, & t’was a good fight. Also the next day (the day they had their second Conan performance), I tagged him in the comments of the first post I made of one of our pictures calling him out for not liking it & that we actually have to fight again if he doesn’t like it, & this child decided to like my cOMMENT INSTEAD. Then I commented again explaining that I was meaning the picture & not the comment, & he liked that one too. About a week later, I had told my mom & her boyfriend about the whole Zach thing, & I tweeted something my mom’s boyfriend said about me fucking up by not kissing Z (which would’ve been highly inappropriate wtf why would I??), & he liked that tweet too lmao. I was mortified. He’s liked some more stuff within that same period to now, but I cannot recall if they’d actually add anything to this?
Okay also disclaimer: I do not hate Zach, & he know this. It’s just how we are (which are two v extra people).. but he is def the bitch in our relationship thanks.

morning musume‘17 live @ hk presscon (2017.06.24)
i figured out from twitter today that mm17 was arriving in hk, but the transportation fare being pricey + me being entirely too far away made going to the airport out of the question, so i gave up on the idea and went out shopping instead… but i pulled up twitter again and wait, what’s this.. they’re holding a presscon in 30min at a mall literally 1 train stop away from me??? heck yeah i’m going!!
although they didn’t sing today, this is my second time seeing mm!! (first time was during the my vision tour last year)
venue
a mall named windsor house in causeway bay – its design is very reminiscent of ikebukuro sunshine city with the multiple levels of balconies (it’s much smaller though)
supposed to start at 5pm. by the time i got there at 4:40pm, the ground and second levels were already packed, so i found a spot off to the side on the third floor balcony. not that bad esp. considering how late i got there (ppl on the ground level in front and center had been there for 2-3 hours already??)
demographics
felt like a healthy, even split between guys/girls
the crowd seemed largely local/non-japanese – the host asked if there were any japanese ppl here and not many people responded
anecdotally, it felt like the majority of the local (and vocal) crowd were girls in 10s? 20s? and the japanese crowd were (suitcase lugging) older guys
not too many wota Ts but a good # glowsticks
the presscon itself
late start at 5:30 pm, lasted roughly an hour. i’m sure better pics and videos are out there so i wont bother much with my subpar phone photos
1) introduction: mm17 introduce themselves as a group in cantonese (no individual intros). there’s a small funny part when they first walk in where maachan stares at the backboard (the pic of them in the morning coffee outfit) and her body language was like “whoa look it’s us!!” lol. yokoyoko, akanechin, and maachan wore sneakers?/non-high heels – i hope it’s pre-cautionary and they’re not injured.
2) press picture-taking: mm17 takes pics with some big wigs (sponsors of the event, record label owners, etc). the big wigs had red wine while the girls had orange juice lol.
3) press q&a: i hardly remember what was asked & answered but it was all generic stuff like “how do you find the hk fans”, “what are you looking forward to doing in hk”, etcetc. fuku-chan (?) mentioned that hk fans are very vocal about their support.
4) fan interaction segment #1: 3 fans were invited up onto the stage to dance jealousy jealousy with the members and received autographed posters
5) fan interaction segment #2: 2 fans were invited up to be instructed by members how to do sexy, cute, and cool poses. ayumin was very insistent on teaching the fan to do her signature hair flip thing for the “cool” pose lol. the fans got autographed posters.
6) fan group picture: the girls took a photo with the fans on the ground level
end of event
some people hung around even though the event ended, but i was like w/e and just left the mall since it was really hot and stuffy… which turned out to be a good thing, because i got to see yokoyoko & everyone else filing into a minivan in the parking lot! they had closed curtains so we couldn’t see them on the van, but oda waved at us from the back
other thoughts
not really complaining since this is free, but for a presscon, this was weirdly fan-centric. i’m happy to see the chosen fans happy but there were only like 2-3 members who spoke more than once and i honestly dont even remember hearing akanechin say anything. i wish they had more member-centric stuff!
same “issue” i had with the my vision tour: ppl around me were lukewarm and weren’t willing to make noise!! i tried my best to cheer generically but it was hard to not feel like a deranged asylum escapee when i got roped into yelling “KAEDII!!!” by some other fans yelling elsewhere. i think the guy to my left started cheering more though since i was doing it next to him :D
anyway this was just a 1 hour presscon and the actual concert is tomorrow! i haven’t even decided what merch to buy yet (tbh everything is pretty ugly ._.) but i’ll get some rest now and think about that tomorrow…

194.
1) Do you bite on straws, lollipop handles, or ice cream sticks? >> I do. 2) Do you enjoy lacing shoes? >> I really don’t have a feeling about it one way or the other. 3) In what type of area was your first sexual encounter? >> A bed. 4) What kind of socks do you prefer and do you wear them to bed? >> Ones that cover the ankle but don’t go up too far. In summer I prefer ankle socks. I could never wear socks to bed unless I wanted to die of discomfort. 5) What color is your toothbrush- or do you practice hygiene at all? >> LOL yes I practice hygiene, and my toothbrush is white and purple.
6-7) Do you enjoy interior or outdoor spaces, and what kind? >> I like both... 8) Where is your mother’s side of the family descended from? >> All I know is that she’s from Haiti, so I gather the rest of the family is too. 9) How old were you when you realized that you loved film or music? >> I don’t think that’s something I can really... realise, like a random thunderclap one day. I’ve been emotionally dependent on music for literally as long as I can remember. I don’t remember when film gained importance either, I mean the first movie I saw in theaters (The Prince of Egypt) had the most profound effect on me and that kind of thing has been happening ever since, but I never really thought about what that meant or anything. 10) Do you spend much time in a car every day? >> No. 11) What do you occupy your time with on flights? >> Listen to music, read, stare at the clouds and just enjoy being in the air, nap. 12) Do you ever miss belt loops? >> No. 13) Do you enjoy the irony of good pop music? >> The... what? How is that ironic? Please, tell me. 14) When was your last major illness? What was it? >> I don’t think I’ve ever had a major illness. 15) Do you get gum on the bottom of your shoes or are you “barefoot and pregnant?” >> W... what???? What 16) Do you sleep in the same bed as someone else? >> Yes. I’ve been daydreaming about that Pleasantville type setup lately. She’s a great lass and all but our marriage will not survive her inability to be still and my ridiculous sensitivity to movement (and need for space), lmao. 17) Do you drool on your pillow or are you dry? >> I don’t usually drool. 18) Do you dog-ear pages in books? >> Sure, sometimes. I don’t regard books as sacred objects, sorry. Their content? Absolutely! The object? Nah.
19) Name one defining moment in your life. >> Hmm. What hasn’t been a defining moment in my life...? Life is just defining moment after defining moment, for me. 20) Is the place where you live dark or full of light? >> Somewhere in between. 21) Are you dark or full of light? >> I am a singularity. I swallow light and it continues to burn somewhere deep inside of me, but I exude darkness, and most people probably think that’s all I’m made of. Sometimes I do, too. 22) What’s a made up word of yours? >> I don’t think I’ve made up any. 23) If you could be any kind of underwear, which would you be? >> No thanks. 24) Do you use Q-Tips? >> Yeah. 25) What do koalas make you think of? >> I just think they’re adorable. And evil. Cute evil, my favourite. 26) Ever gone out with somebody you didn’t like? >> No. 27) What hero or heroine do you most relate to in history, fiction, or song? >> Hmm.
28) What makes you dizzy? >> Spinning around a lot? 29) Are your parents liberal or conservative? >> --- 30) Do you like your teeth? Did you have braces? >> They’re fine. Nope. 31) What scares you that shouldn’t? >> Hmm. 33) Name a garment that makes you feel like The Shit. >> This coat I have. It’s technically Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them merch??? For some reason? But whatever, it just looks like a fly ass coat. 34) What do you want to name any possible future children? >> Hmm. 35) Do you compulsively listen to any certain song? >> Right now, nah. But it happens sometimes. 36) What are you always losing? >> My damn patience with myself. It’s a problem. I’m working on it. 37) Do you fight with people in your head moments or even years after confrontations happen? >> Sure. 38) You’re a fish. Would you eat the stinky flakes or swim into the motor? >> What the fuck. 39) Are the flakes stinky to the fish? >> I don’t know, I’m no fish. 40) Do you hate a certain body part? >> Yeah, this whole reproductive system bullshit. 41) What do you love about life today? >> The second season of Atlanta is on Hulu. I might watch another episode after this, I don’t really have the desire to do much today. 42) Do you ever realize how ridiculous you’re being yet continue on anyway? >> Oh, fucking absolutely. It’s a problem. 43) Are you a dog or cat person? >> I’m... not much of an animal person, I’m starting to realise. Like, I love dogs, and I’d definitely rather keep company with a dog than a cat, but where most people look at a pet and see “friend, companion, family” or whatever, I see “work, more work, cleaning, work”. :/ So I guess that means I’m not a pet person. I can’t even make connections with animals, god damn.
44) Do you have a theme song? >> I have a theme soundtrack. 45) How do you like your eggs? >> Fried and on top of a skillet breakfast. 46) Would you admit to disliking a piece of art in a gallery? >> Sure, if I was with someone. I wouldn’t just shout it to the walls, lmao. 47) Plants or animals? >> Hmm. 48) Are you happy with your height? >> I’m fine with it. It’s never bothered me.

New York Recap
I am really sick so this’ll be short sweet and simple(enough) very long and under a cut
My travel anxiety SUCKED on my way to New York and I got there 20 minutes late but all it took was one hug from my boyfriend to make it all better(I have not seen him in 9 months)
That night we went to the Japan Society art exhibit which was really really neat and about gender(though a few of the paintings were explicit). They had a little café/bar setup with a live band playing and it was just really really neat. Also, if I am remembering the painting description correctly, Geisha were originally all men
I think we ate at Applebees that night.
The following day we visited my old haunts- Nintendo Store(where he found a Legend of Zelda sheetmusic book and a Venusaur, and we looked at their collection of old consoles and watched a couple people try out the new games), Sunrise Mart(Four words- Chocolate Chip Melon Pan), Bookoff(Where I found all seven volumes of the anime Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok and all were under 7 bucks except for one that was like 8, naturally I bought all seven and now have a show to binge. Also found some Morning Musume concert discs/Single Vs but couldn’t remember what I already had so I let them be. Talked myself out of buying a Tsunku album.), and Kinokuniya(Café Zaiya’s sakura mousse was absolutely fantastic and I FOUND BOTH MOMOCHI AND KARIN’S PHOTOBOOKS AND A C-UTE ONE TOO but they were like 40 bucks a pop and he had to do everything in his power to stop me from buying them though honestly I should’ve bought C-ute’s). We ate at the hotel restaurant I think, it was okay but I started getting a sore throat.
That same night, we ended up going to the Ripley’s Museum(whish was really fricken neat, I’ve been to the one in Atlantic City before but this one was quite different).
The next day and easily the best day of the trip we went to Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater NJ for the first time since 2011ish. Started with the market itself and bough over 50 bucks of snacks and curry roux, then went to the café for some curry and a Strawberry Crepe(is was so fricken good omg). We then moseyed on over to their Kinokuniya, got some chuckles at manga covers, read some Japanese childrens’ books, found a book about Maru.. And then went to eat again =w= I got a Ten-don zaru soba combo and he just nibbled on some pocky. After sitting for a while longer we checked out Little Japan USA(Used to be Mars toystore/traditional good store but they combined them) and my heart told me that in the one of three remaining Shippuden mystery boxes(which were like 15 bucks a pop) was the figurine I wanted so I chanced it and IT FUCKING WAS.
After that we walked a ways to check out a shopping plaza/the supermarket chain my love works for, took a stroll by the Hudson river, and then went back to Mitsuwa for one last quick snack of Taiyaki. At the bus stop we saw two people who also came from Mitsuwa and they were talking about Kpop so I was keeping to myself but then somehow we started talking and I said I was more into J-idols and it turned out one was a fan for like 10+ years now and actually went on a 30day concert streak just to see H!P concerts and they’re like a legend in my eyes now and we talked for the entire ride back to Port Authority and it was so cool. We walked back to the hotel fully content. We found a ramen chain close to the hotel that we were familiar with from our Philly trips and it was really really good, plus they were playing oldies music and SHARAMQ’S SINGLE BED CAME ON AND I GOT SO GIDDY I DROPPED MY PHONE
And then the day of the concert.
My cold started hitting hard so we went back to Sunrise mart, mainly for lunch/Choco chip melon pan but also so I could grab some facemasks. We walked Central park for a couple hours and rode the carousel and had a grand old time while I got the worst looks from white people for wearing a mask. Then we went to the Turnstyle underground market just to look, went into Lush so I could show him all the neat things, asked about the different flavoured toothy tabs and she was like ‘I can give you a couple of this one to try back home’ and I was like ok cool AND SHE GAVE ME LIKE 20
Then we get to the venue and after a long while in line and our bladders almost exploding we get in and get like the best possible view of the stage(it was standing room and as y’all might know I am one tiny guy) and the first band was really great, Gothic Knights, they were NY based and one of few lesser-known openers that were really really good and the singer was goddamn gorgeous
Then Hammerfall came out. They were great. The mosh pit behind us? Not so much. We had to move because my boyfriend kept getting bumped into and I was pissed because he was getting annoyed so the only place we could really go was behind a support beam which was conveniently also right under an air vent. By this point I’m starting to cough super duper hard and was so close to just saying ‘lets go back to the hotel’ But no. I traveled 9 hours from Florida to NY just to see these guys. We hit up Gothic Knights’ merch booth(The lead singer was right next to me and a. he couldn’t see me smile bc facemask so he just saw my sick-and-dead eyes and b. by the time I realized he was there it was too late to tell him how amazing he was), got a T-shirt and an album and I think my sweetheart helped me pay for it
By the time Delain got on stage I was like 100%done so we sat on the stairs until the staff yelled at us and then we stood on the stairs. I could barely hear, charlotte was off her game, and it was just such a disappointment. But I am pretty sure that Merel looked right at me and smiled which made my night
Hit up the main merch booth and spent far too much- Signed Hammerfall CD, Delain Moonbathers T-shirt, and a button set. We grabbed a quick snack for my boyfriend on the way back to the hotel but I was just far too sick. Think I fell asleep as soon as we got back.
He left the following afternoon and then I went to karaoke despite being very sick and entirely croaky. You should’ve heard me try to hit the notes in Shall we Love. Got to sing with one of my close friends for 2 hours and catch up briefly before I walked back towards the hotel. It was downpouring and I still didn’t eat that day so I went back to Terakawa for some ramen and heard even more oldies jams(Diamonds by PrincessPrincess, a Finger Five song, and hilariously enough the folk song Kasa Ga Nai aka Without an Umbrella). Took a nice bath and got ready for the next day’s departure.
It started out okay honestly. Watched some TV, mailed myself my snacks, ate a great breakfast at the Cosmic Diner(the food got to me within like 2 minutes of ordering) and then left an hour early for the Subway. Glad I did too, because if I took the 1230 and had all the delays that happened on the 1130, I would’ve missed my flight. The subway took like 40 minutes longer than it should have. But anyway, get on the flight, smooth sailing so to speak, but due to overhead compartments being full before I had gotten on I needed to check my carry-on.
So I’m waiting at baggage claim. The conveyor belt gets stuck. We get stuck there for like 30 minutes while they try to fix the jam. in that time I get a call saying my 8pm shuttle(which I got so I could have time to eat beforehand, my flight landed at 540) was cancelled. Started sobbing uncontrollably and my immune system failed yet again so I was feeling even sicker because of it, and still haven’t gotten my bag yet so I was scared I’d miss this shuttle bus too and be stranded. Then another person from the company calls and informs me that no, the 8pm was NOT cancelled and I can still take it. By this time it’s almost 7p and I’m sobbing to them on the phone and I go to get something to eat but I’ve lost my appetite and am feeling far too ill. I grab something small from a restaurant, head over to the lush in the airport and buy myself 2 bathbombs, a bubble bar and toothy tabs, and go to wait for my shuttle. It shows up about ten minutes early and everything goes smoothly. I ended up calling out of work for today because as the ride progressed I was getting progressively worse.
Got home, got bombarded by my cat who was extremely upset with me, took a nice bath and went straight to sleep.
Now after spending over an hour to type this up I’m going the fuck back to bed. Goodnight everyone and thank you for reading.
#trip log#I can't even smell the menthol in my Vics tissues I'm so stuffed up#There's no way I would have been able to work today#But I did still have an amazing time and I miss the city#Honestly everything's better than Florida
