There's a popular tweet going around that's like "If you say your favorite anime is [string of Japanese words] and I find out that's just [English name of very generic popular anime] I'm shoving you into a locker"

And I take issue with that! Actually! Because it overlooks the context where some new anime starts airing--sub-only, referred to by its Japanese name only--which you and a micro-niche of like 4 of your mutuals decide to watch. And the only name it's ever called is the Japanese name, because there's no English speaking audience beside you and 4 weirdos reblogging gifsets from each other.

And then, months or years later, it blows up. Season 2 hits it big or some youtube personality does a waifu ranking of it and now Hot Topic is shilling its merch and Cosplay Tiktok is calling out some 14-year-old for race-faking and now someone asks you "hey what anime are you enjoying right now?" and you're like "oh I like [Japanese name]" and they have the audacity to go "scoff, you mean [English name]?"

So MR is finally going huh

I could kind of tell we were headed here; henshins and units had both started to become redundant and it was clear they’d run out of things to do with the characters. Plus, Magia Exedra’s coming out.

I’ll miss this game; it revitalized my love for the original anime and I appreciated how it expanded Madoka’s themes through the Doppels. I really hope the game’s stories can be archived.

Also appreciate how it lead me to connect with the community and helped me get through a bit of my shyness; I may not have played MR in a while, but I have a lot of fun memories of making and sharing art and talking with people in the fandom, and despite the game shutting down I know its community isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. 💖🎀✨

Since you have been here for many years how was the frev community ~10 years ago? Different than today? We're there more or less people?

There were waaaaaaay less people. Like, fanart? Not appearing in this picture. Like, I remember even making a post when I was a youngster, that pretty much was like “it makes me sad that none of my Robespierre posts will ever get over 65 notes, and if they do, it will inevitably lead to an argument because he’s controversial.”

These days? … very different numbers.

And also the discussions were less academic. It pretty much constant, and I mean constant, and incredibly annoying (I say this as one of the people who was very much doing this annoying thing) “Robespierre not dictator.”

Like. That was the sum total of the discourse.

Sometimes there was a kerfuffle like “oh no, I like Camille Desmoulins, and so that means I need to hate Saint just, and that means i must have a fist fight in the parking lot with anyone who likes Saint just.”

These days, I see a lot more nuanced discussions and debates! It makes me sad that I’m a grown woman now with a job and a mortgage and a career and so I don’t have the time to invest in the More Nuanced discussions.
