no matter how cute tulins design is, i like teba more and he had at least a little bit more to fall back on from botw than tulin did, given how little time is spent on these characters (and the time that is is just ... so flat, its all so tasteless, no flavor) hes just as much, or little really, as the champions descendants were in botw .. if even, though this game should have been the time to go hard on narrative, sicne the world was established now would have been the time to dig into the story more

im considering making teba the 'sage' (no sages in my rewrite but for understandings sake) and possibly with a .. 'backpack' tulin, they are a team and work as one (doing proper character arcs is hard to do in a game world like botw, given how isolated each area is and how little everyone interacts, id focus more on having some active troubles and dangers- team getting seperated etc. to make it feel like theres actual stakes instead of a flat one scene character 'arc' and then some baby puzzles that i hesitate to even call that)

(i still havent found a workaround for the abilities yet, botws way of doing it was very well integrated and made sense with the story, i dont want to repeat that but also dont want to have the shitty totk way, - killing a character off in the present to have them aid you in spirit is interesting only if not applied to everyone bc then it gets all too samey again, something something items in a way--- regardless of how im gonna solve that issue, i like the idea of them working together just like you are actively traveling with zelda as your companion and it will work whether i give them actual abilities or not)

I was thinking, “Why choose Finnick to be the guy protecting Katniss and Peeta in the quarter quell?” I mean, someone had to, right? Make sure they both got out alive and could keep them in place for the rescue. But why Finnick? Katniss doesn’t like him before they enter the arena.

The obvious solution is that, of all the tributes in on the plan, Finnick is the strongest. He scores high in the assessment, he’s still young, he’s fit enough to carry an old lady around the arena all day. But then, so is Johanna (strong young and fit, not sure about carrying Mags all day though). Another option is that, since Katniss likes Mags, he’s got an easy-in to trying to befriend Katniss. But so did Johanna, in bringing Beetee and Wiress. There’s other tributes in the arena who Katniss likes and is less likely to try and kill than Finnick who might have been a better option to bodyguard Katniss and Peeta.

But I thought of another reason too. Finnick has sponsors. Finnick, who’s original game saw other tributes barely getting any gifts since he had so many sponsors, who had hundreds of people faint during his interview thinking they were his one true love, who’s adored by the Capitol populace, would always, always have sponsors lined up to send him gifts.

Gifts like the bread that signals when they’re escaping the arena, a gift that is vital to the plan. Maybe that’s why Finnick was chosen to make the alliance at the start. Because he’d be guaranteed to be able to get the message of the bread

I think its so lame that both the mortal realm and the fairy realm are both just kinda generically medieval european/pseudo-victorian except Prythian has a tiny little bit of funky vaguely magical shit, I know other people have already said this but the human realm should be wayyyy more technologically advanced. like it doesnt have to be modern technology bc at that point I feel like it would clash too severely with the aesthetics of this series, but idk, we could have some steampunk shit methinks

Thinking about Blue Eye Samurai again but has anyone talked about how horrifying guns are in the series. Like how scary it must have been to be part of a nation that knew nothing but swords, suddenly having to face a whole army equipped with a weapon that can easily kill someone from far away. Even if they were very rudimentary at first and nowhere near as efficient as modern firearms, you see all the Japanese warriors die so quickly when Fowler's men start attacking, and they barely manage to kill but a few of his soldiers… it's genuinely frightening, and kind of sad to realize that if it weren't for the fire, Fowler would have gotten his way with no effort
