#I was talking to some buddies about lies of p and sekiro and how LoP’s defense as offense mentality helped get into sekiro#but then how sekiro overwrote that mentality with its own “offense is the best defense” mentality#or “hesitate and you lose” as Grandpappy isshin would say#and how the switch for the change for me was genichiro who I think is one of the best designed bosses in gaming#you CAN’T play too defensively with him because he’s happy to pepper you with arrows from a distance#and then the moment comes when you realize your sword interrupts his bow attacks sekiro truly begins as a game#lady butterfly is also a good fight but all her moves bring her to you so there’s less incentive to be as aggressive#vs genny baby who will back off and fire off his bow if you let him#this isn’t even like a video of me playing perfectly but I LOVE getting my feudal edgelord corner stunned and just bursting him down#I kinda hate the owl shinobi fight bc he hits too hard and his attacks just aren’t interesting to react to#but it’s also possible to corner stun him and just go to town on his health bar#owl father and inner father are much better fights and I actually really enjoyed inner father a lot#but the Ashina family fights are absolutely stunning achievements in game design imo#perfectly balanced to be difficult but fair and visually stunning to boot#even if there is a layer of artificial difficulty in the final battle with the flowers obscuring their swords when they’re crouched#but the animations are solid enough that there are enough other more subtle differences like how hes shifting his weight#if he’s centered he’s going to lunge but if he’s angled he’s gonna sweep#I had so much fun with LoP and sekiro 🥰🥰🥰 I crave more…#I can’t say the combat in Elden ring gorilla gripped me like these two games have but I like HAVE to play dark souls I know this#sekiro#tsuchi plays games

“she said whaaaat? no way!”
you were scrolling on your phone in the living room when you heard that familiar voice pierce through the comfortable silence — satoru’s voice, a bit more high pitched this time, almost like he couldn’t believe what he had heard.
your boyfriend was over at your parents’ place for the first time and seemed to get along just fine with your mother in the kitchen. you could hear their giggles and gasps every now and then whilst your body was resting on the couch.
their voices were getting louder by the minute, thus you decide to stand up and go check on them. you reach the doorstep and instantly smile at the heartwarming scene that greets you;
your mother chopping up some vegetables, chuckling whilst excitedly telling her recent gossips to satoru, who was leaning back against the kitchen counter next to her — his arms crossed and those pretty dimples of his apparent on his face as he carefully listens to your mother’s stories.
“seems like you two are getting along well already, eh?” you chuckle after observing them for a little while longer. your presence instantly make satoru smile even more (if that were even possible), his eyes glimmering at the sight of you;
“hey, baby!” the white-haired man walks over to you and hugs you tightly before letting go, though his hand remains at your waist. the grin on his face widens, “your mother has the most juiciest of gossips that i’ve ever heard around town, i’m telling ya — stuff’s got me absolutely hooked.”
your mother responds to that with a short giggle. she glances up from her cutting board and sends you a look — one that emits her approval of the lover you’ve chosen. it seems like satoru’s charming personality succeeded into mellowing even your parents’ hearts.
“heh, i do actually believe that.” you nod with your own cheeky grin. your mother was like a newspaper — you always hear all the recent stories and gossips from her.
it’s no wonder satoru instantly clicked with her; if it isn’t your mother you’re gossiping with, it would usually be that cheeky sorcerer instead. he’s a great listener after all, his reactions are priceless to you.
you move over to stand next to your mother and decide to help her out with cutting up the veggies. satoru starts to search the area in hopes to find an apron for himself, though was quickly interrupted by the gruff voice of your dad echoing through the house;
“satoru, c’mere, boy! help an old man out.”
you were a bit surprised that your dad was specifically asking for satoru to go help him (your mom as well; however she knowingly snickers afterwards).
you can’t remember the last time your father had directly asked help from someone he barely knew. sometimes he wouldn’t even ask your mother or you for help. that’s how stubborn your dad is.
or, was — satoru’s an exception, it seems like.
your boyfriend was also a bit stunned — though not in a bad way at all. the corners of his lips curl up in a fond smile, his blue eyes shining ever so brightly due to the feeling of being needed and accepted in this household. his beloved’s household.
it felt like he had achieved all he wanted in life — hell, satoru was ready to risk it all and ask for your hand in marriage right then and there; that’s how joyous and confident this moment made him.
“coming, sir!” satoru calls out. you could’ve sworn his voice cracked a tad bit, however you decide not to comment on it. your boyfriend turns around with the biggest grin on his face and quickly goes to stand between your mother and you.
one of his hands rests on your waist, the other on your mom’s shoulder as he places a sweet kiss to the crown of your head. a rush of warmth surged through his body as he saw you look up at him with those captivating and pretty eyes, making satoru feel even more content than he already was —
“i’ll be right back. if you ladies need a helping hand, just give me a holler.” satoru says and smoothly steals a kiss on your cheek before hurrying towards your father, whose voice sounded from the bathroom.
there was a spring in his step. a positive change in his already ethereal looks as you watch him disappear from the room. you shake your head and chuckle at satoru’s excitement. you knew exactly what he was feeling, because you felt the same once you realised just how fast your parents seemed to accept and approve of him;
relieved, comfortable and happy.

YANDERE DEMONS AND BRIDES P2
Ok. So part 2 is here. Mostly because Hantengu is actually 7 people packed into one and I'll be needing to tackle them all in their own posts. I'll do a part 3 with the lower moons next
Warnings for yandere-ish (???) themes, kidnapping mentions, possibly death mentioned, mention gore(Hantengu ripping up his body to let the clones out) and threats, Mentions of Urogi accidentally cutting Yn, mentions of a dead animal, Karaku IS his own warning, possibly some innuendos, etc.
I won't really do them separately because I can't really see one developing feelings for a single clone because they'd be inside Hantengu most of the time so the only way you'd develop any relationship with the clones is by hanging about Hantengu the entire time.
Zohakutan will also be included as he is a part of Hantengu but his segment WILL BE PLATONIC!! I DON'T CONDONE ANY OTHER WAY!!
Tumblr media
HANTENGU + CLONES:
Tumblr media
COMPASSION AND PATIENCE
-If you know him then you know his backstory and victim complex. Unless he's killing someone to eat or carrying out whatever orders Muzan wants him to, he's avoiding people like the plague which still he blames everyone else for. So it's unlikely he'd actually meet you unless Muzan ordered him to eliminate you, he's hungry, you're a slayer, or it's by complete accident. Let's go with the last one for this.
-Like usually he hides away from anything and everything. This time taking shelter in an old abandoned shed during the day. Only it isn't abandoned. It's YOUR house. And it's not unoccupied because you come home later in the day from hours of shopping and visiting friends in the town a few miles away from you. You don't even notice the demon in your home because he's hiding in the darkest corner shaking and watching as you walk about putting away new fabrics and food to be made into lunches and dinners later days.
-You accidentally bump into your kitchen cabinet knocking a pot off making a loud noise that startled the demon into shrieking and scrambling across the room startling you into shrieking, dropping objects, and whirling around wide eyed. You both freeze. He's mumbling and shaking like a cat dipped in cold water under your kitchen table and you're staring at what looks like an old man. You both just freeze staring at one another.
-Eventually you slowly relax seeing it was just an old man but you were still highly cautious. It was too dark for you to tell he was a demon in the limited lantern light and the fact most of him was hidden under the table. After a moment you speak to him in a gentle voice asking him if he's alright and when he answers you in sobs and shakes, you couldn't help but feel so bad for him. You took care of your grandparents until they passed away so seeing this assumed poor old man has you feeling so sorry.
-So you offer him something he's never had before. You smile so beautifully at him and tell him it's not his fault for being scared. You ask if he has any nearby family and as he answers no, you tell him he can stay the night in the guest room and you'd figure out what to do in the morning. You try to coax him out by offering him some food to which he reluctantly agrees. Being so used to helping the elderly thanks to the care you gave your grandparents, you easily held him pulling him slowly to his shaking feet and slowly walk him towards the guest room taking your arm in his. Hantengu is stunned, shocked, twisted-......And in his twisted mind it's already concluded one terrible fate for you.
-Hantengu is not one shy to marriage. As a human he's had many relationships and families even if they never ended well. He doesn't remember a lot about them. He has a faint knowledge of having previous wives but he doesn't remember any of them. But that doesn't stop him from thinking that you would be the perfect wife. Compared to other demons Hantengu is the most delusional and the fastest to turn yandere FAST.
-You are surprised when you wake up the next day and find the old man gone no where to be found in your home or the town and no one has seen any old man walking around by themselves when you ask around. Strange. You spend all day looking for him out of worry but give up when you could find him no where in the town, your home, or the nearby forest. You return home before it gets too dark and are surprised to find all of the raw meat you bought the day before completely gone. You only find one half pork chop left with what looks like a wolf's sharp teeth had taken a big bite outta it.
-It weirds you out. On top of the sudden disappearance it sends a bad feeling through you. However you chalk up the old man to a wild dream and the missing meat as a wild animal because honestly you did leave the front door open when you rushed out to search for him. There's no other evidence of him being there so you soon put it out of your mind.
-A few days later you truly realize the horror of your choices as your front door opens wide one night and lit by the bright fireplace is a horrifyingly terrible creature. Shaking with tears running down his face. You're too stunned, to scared, to petrified to speak as he just crawls towards you and tell you in a sobbing but affectionate voice that your husband was home.
-In Hantengu's mind you both are together with you being the perfect caring wife when in reality you're too scared and confused to correct him (for now). He will bombard you with needy whines and sobs expecting you to comfort him with whatever it is he's terrified about. Awkwardly and fearfully you do buying your time until you can figure out what to do about this demon sitting down at the dinner table shaking and expecting dinner (which is usually just raw steaks and such for him) to be served by his pretty wife.
"It's N-Not my fault! You know that d-don't you?"
The rest of these guys all share a similar sentiment to Hantengu however they do have their own opinions on the subject.
URAMI:
Tumblr media
-(Bare with me. It was the only gif of Urami I could find.) Actually is the clone you see the very least. In the year and a half of you nicely pretending to go along with Hantengu's 'wife' delusion before Tanjiro frees you unknowingly, you only ever encounter Urami twice.
-The first time you meet him is the same day you're bombarded by all of the clones. They were all itching to come out to meet their new 'wife'. As they're all extensions of Hantengu they all share the same delusions. So you shrieked as Hantengu ripped himself up forming two younger men before they ripped up each other turning into FOUR young men along with one giant version of Hantengu holding his now tiny form in the palm of his hands. You shriek out before fainting. Thankfully Aizetsu caught your limp form.
-Urami is the clone of Resentment, he embodies the resentment of all of Hantengu's past wives not being as good as you. Threatens you not to hurt his 'innocent self's' heart or else he'd make you resent it! You faint again from the intensity of that meeting causing the others to panic and Sekido smack him over the head with his staff.
-The second time you meet him is two months before Hantengu's death and your freedom being restored. He startled you just walking into your home right behind the other clones. He was so tall he had to duck just to get in through the door. Turns out a semi strong demon had challenged him to a blood battle for Upper Moon Four causing five of his six clone forms to appear. He ignores Sekido's arguing with him as he just places one giant hand on your head patting it like a dog as you stared frozen up at him.
"We go through a lot of trouble for you. Don't make me resent you for that."
SEKIDO:
Tumblr media
-If you thought Karaku and Urogi's antics or Hantengu's clinginess gave you headaches, then let me introduce you to Mr. Hothead.
-Sekido represents all of the things he's angry about in a relationship. 'His wife not being compassionate enough' or how their wives usually 'blamed them when they were nothing but innocent.'
-Despite this you'd much rather spend time with him than most of the other clones outside Aizetsu. He actually yells and pushes the others off of you angry he isn't getting a turn to just hold their wife. Does it give you headaches? Yes. Does it terrify you? Definitely. Would you rather silently let Sekido hold you and listen to all of his complaints than listen to Karaku make another innuendo or have Hantengu get your dress wet again as he clung onto you? ABSOLUTELY! At least Sekido doesn't smother you as much as the others.
-However he's ALWAYS nitpicking on the things he hates you do that make him annoyed or angry. Have a vase he doesn't like? Complain! You don't have enough raw meat ready for your 'husband's' dinner? Complain! Karaku and Urogi hold you too long? COMPLAIN! He never threatens you unlike Urami, after all he hates to think about you being upset with him. But sometimes he gets so angry with the others it starts a fight and parts of your home is damaged.
"Can't you just appreciate what I'm trying to do for you!?"
KARAKU:
Tumblr media
-(For this instance of Karaku I'm keeping him strictly the clone of Relaxation because everything I write is sfw) Karaku is one of the main three you see most often. Mostly you only see Hantengu however since Sekido and Karaku are the first two clones that appear they're the main two clones you see.
-Karaku is giddy and like Hantengu is overbearingly clingy. He's always slinging an arm around you or taunting Sekido into blowing up again much to his and Urogi's amusement. He's the main culprit of why you have so many headaches because despite his relaxed personality he's...TOO laid back around you.
-You'll find him splayed across YOUR bed napping and if you ask him to move he only laughs with a relaxed smile and offers that you can join him. More than once this has lead you to end up sleeping on the floor because the other clones and Hantengu are taking the guest bed.
-He has ZERO filter let's just say. He's too relaxed and ok with many innuendos and jokes about your figure or at your expense making you shutter and start to prefer Sekido and Aizetsu's presence over his. It always rules the anger clone into a fight and makes Urogi laugh much to your dismay and horror.
-He's upset and confused by why you always avoid him leading him to want more physical contact much to your uncomfort. An arm around your shoulders or waist, patting your head, sudden hugs- He's hurt when you always scramble away to duck behind the nearest clone that isn't him or Urogi. He's very dense even if Sekido bluntly tells him you don't like that.
-One got smacked by a frying pan while you were doing dishes and he kissed your cheek suddenly. Urogi still makes fun of him for it.
"You need to relax and quite being so uptight all the time, Baby.~"
UROGI:
Tumblr media
-Out of all seven of them Urogi is the one who makes all of them keep an eye on him including Karaku who's usually relaxed. The thing is Urogi gets bored easily unlike Karaku who's relaxed 24/7 and doesn't need to be entertained. However because he's constantly doing antics or things that make him happy and he's overjoyed to finally be getting a wife...The others keep an eye on him like a pack of watchdogs.
-More than once you've gotten scratched by his talons. Not on purpose but sometimes he's so excited about you he ends up scratching you with his talons causing Sekido to rage and beat him to a cooked chicken casserole as Karaku and Aizetsu bandage your teary eyed self.
-His birb instincts take over a lot of the time he's out. One time you shrieked and ended up crying when he brought you a bunny he hunted out of instinct. He was confused and heartbroken when you didn't like it but didn't do it again after another round of Sekido yelling at him and seeing how unhappy it made you.
-Other bird husbandry includes him doing those weird birb mating dances much to Karaku's laughter and your confusion. He also builds a nest high in a tree. More than once you get carried up there shrieking and end up clinging to the tree out of fear of falling as the four argue. Karaku once tried blowing you down with his fan only to get smacked over the head Sekido. Aizetsu had to be the one to climb up and coax you into hanging onto him as he climbed down.
-This happens a few more times before you're ultimately freed of them but it doesn't happen too often anymore after the first time because the others keep a firm eye on Urogi while he's out.
-Joins Karaku in his antics of being clingy just to annoy Sekido. He finds it funny and gets a kick out of riling him up. However it saddens him when that only pushes you further away from both of them.
"Don't be such a a killjoy. You're acting just like Sekido."
AIZETSU:
Tumblr media
-The clone who you mostly trust. Aizetsu is an interesting case. He's still as delusional as the others but he's not oblivious to the fact despite your remaining kindness (outta fear) your 'relationship' is making you unhappy, stressed, and possibly depressed. He knows the signs being the clone of sorrow. Does he do anything about this? No. He's still delusional as said and believes that you're the one for them and somehow he can make this work. He just needs to be patient. As I said, they're all delusional.
-He becomes the go to clone you prefer to interact with. While he does nothing to stop the 'relationship', he doesn't cause you headaches or nitpicks like Sekido, he's not as prone to sudden antics or make innuendo jokes like Karaku and Urogi, he certainly does threaten you like the two times you see Urami, and while a bit clingy he is WAY less than Hantengu. If anything most your bonding time is him just silently listening to you vent. If the others weren't included or he wasn't a demon you might've actually dated him.
-He's the go to clone whenever you're crying, need space, or if the others can't console you. If you're trying to escape the others and Sekido isn't near, he's the first one you hide behind. He knows it's sad behavior but he can't help but feel proud you trust him so much out of everyone, and how sad his brother's behavior makes him.
-The downsides though is that in a similar way to how Sekido complains about anything you do that annoys him, he tells you that anything you do that that he finds annoying makes him sad. Give Sekido more attention? You're making him sad. Talking about how you like your favorite dress? You're making him sad. Want to do anything that doesn't involve Aizetsu? YOU'RE MAKING HIM SAD! You start to also get tired of that part of him quickly.
"You're making me sad acting out like this."
ZOHAKUTAN:
Tumblr media
-Like Urami you only ever meet Zohakutan twice in the year and a half you and Hantengu are 'married'. The first time you ever see him is also the first ever time you meet all the clones. After two hours of being petrified and having Karaku and Urogi fond over you, Aizetsu silently watching outside of introducing himself and saying their behavior is making him sad, Sekido complaining at them, Urami subtly threatening you, and Hantengu hiding/being clingy you think it can't get much more worse or terrifying. You are dead wrong.
-After subconsciously listening to the other six talk to you for a few hours, Zohakutan wants to meet the new wife too. So Sekido under his constant nudging, absorbs three of the others making you faint again. When you wake up later, the four young men are gone and Urami also disappeared. All that's left if Hantengu's tiny form shivering in the corner and a young boy that's old enough to be your younger brother is staring down at you. Scowling. "It's about time. I hate being kept waiting!"
-You quickly learns that this is just another clone. He's just as delusional too. No!! I'm not shipping him but his delusions make him see you the same as Hantengu. Weak, innocent, something that needs to be protected at all costs. So while he's not a romantic yandere he is a platonic yandere who deems you are not to be harmed under any costs.
-He absolutely HATES Hantengu's past wives, and sees you as the innocent angel Hantengu deludes himself into seeing you as. They share the same main brain so this thought process extends to Zohakutan too.
-You only see him briefly both times, around ten to fifteen minutes for each encounter before he goes back to being dormant in Hantengu. The first time was to just introduce himself to you. The second was right before their mission. He wanted to assure you that because of him all those demon slayers who dare hurt innocent people like you 'and Hantengu' would be dead. This only makes you more scared of him however. Thankfully that was the last time you saw Zohakutan or any of them for that matter.
"I hate those who prey upon the truly weak ones such as you. All evil scum shall perish."

Timeless - Bob Floyd x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: Literally my first attempt at a fic in forever so bare with me, but I had this idea and I couldn't not do it. Also definitely inspired by Timeless by Taylor Swift in a way so don't mind me.
pairing: Lt. Robert Floyd x reader
warnings/content: no warnings, extra cute Bob. mutual pining. lots of fluff. mild angst if you squint.
word count: 2.6k
The cool, crisp November air tickled the back of your neck as you walked down the street, orange, red and yellow leaves peppering the sidewalks, the smells of autumn air filling your nose. You frowned as you zipped your jacket up further to cover you better, the breeze sending a shiver down you. The streets were buzzing with people out and about to finish their preparations for Thanksgiving. It was still a week or so away, but, no one leaves anything to the last minute around here, especially not when it comes to homemade pies and cornbread dressing. The smell of fresh brewing coffee swirled around you as you made your way closer to your favourite local bake shop, enveloping your senses as you walked. You stopped as something - someone caught your eye. You froze in your steps as you peered in the window of the bakery, and you almost gasped in surprise at who you saw standing in line to order. A tall man, with neatly styled dark blonde hair, wire framed glasses, and the most stunning blue eyes you’d ever seen - it had to be him.
Suddenly, he turned and saw you, a large smile on his face as he waved, as if he’d just seen his long lost best friend. In a way, he had.
Robert Floyd had been your neighbour growing up, his house was two doors down from your parents - a pretty Victorian-Queen Anne style home that sat on the corner of the street. His mother had always kept her garden looking immaculate, like something out of a home and garden magazine. He was the youngest of three kids, with an older brother and older sister who were both outgoing and popular in school - Robert had always been shy and more reserved than his siblings.
You moved in when you were 6, just getting ready to start the school year in a new town, terrified of your own shadow. The first thing you noticed when you’d moved in, was the Floyd house and its picturesque landscape. That, and the adorable boy around your own age who’d been playing out front, and waved shyly when he saw you through the back window of your parents’ car as you drove past. For the next 12 years, you and Robert Floyd, or Bobby as you’d always called him, had been best friends - practically inseparable friends, in fact. You did everything together possible. From bike rides to church on Sundays to trick-or-treating to sports teams, everything you could do together, you did. It was as though you couldn’t function as a child without Bobby by your side, and vice versa.
That all changed when Bobby decided to enter the Navy when he turned 18. It was the first time you wouldn’t be going to school together, and the first time since you’d met that he couldn’t be by your side if you needed him. He was leaving you, and you couldn’t help but feel some resentment towards him for it. You’d wanted to tell him the day you graduated high school that you loved him, you’d wanted to beg him to stay or take you with him wherever he was heading, but for whatever reason, you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. Something inside you had told you that it was futile - he’d always wanted to join the military, since the day you met him, and when you were 10 and he’d joined a Navy League Cadet Corps group, it was like fate had decided what he was going to do in life right then and there. You knew that no amount of love in the world shared between you two would have stopped him, and you also knew that he’d never let you give up on your own aspirations to follow him wherever he went.
As you walked into the coffee shop, you were captivated by the smell of freshly baked pastries and roasted coffee beans, but everything around you seemed to freeze when you saw him in person - as if the whole world came to a complete standstill at that moment. God, you missed him. You didn’t even realize just how much you’d missed him over the last decade or so it’d been since you’d graduated. He rarely came back to South Carolina for visits, and you hadn’t exactly spent a ton of time in your hometown since college either, but in this moment, it was as if fate had decided again - you needed one another.
“Kristen? Kristen Taylor, is that you?” His voice sounded the exact same, as if nothing had changed about him in the last 10 or so years. In fact, he even looked the same as he had when you’d graduated high school, even the frames of his glasses had remained the same.
“Bobby? Wow, it’s been years! It’s so nice to see you,” You smiled fondly as he gently placed one of his large, firm hands on your arm, as if he wasn’t sure a hug was appropriate after so long.
“It’s been too long. Do you have a moment? We could sit and catch up for a few minutes, if you want to? I feel like we lost touch for some reason when I shipped out to training, and I feel like I missed a lot.” He nods sheepishly, almost as if he’s making an admission of guilt.
“I think I can spare a few minutes,” You nod slowly, smiling as you met his deep blue eyes, “I’m home visiting from New York and just wanted to take it all in, you know? I don’t really have an agenda for today.”
“Perfect,” Robert nods his head as he points to an empty booth by the window, “I’ll wait here for you while you order.”
A few moments later, coffee in hand, you’re sitting opposite him just like you’d done so many times in this very coffee shop when you were teenagers, sipping sweet teas together while sharing a freshly baked cookie or two. He smiled as he set his coffee down and laughed softly, shaking his head as he spoke.
“What have you been up to? You said you’ve been in New York? Like the city? That’s awesome,” He appears completely invested in hearing everything you’ve been up to since he last saw you.
“Well,” you began to unravel your recent past to him, or as much as you felt comfortable disclosing. You weren’t quite ready to share how you’d had failed relationship after failed relationship since you turned 18, unable to find any man who could compare to him or his sweet demeanor. You didn’t want to tell him that your last relationship ended mercifully as you prepared to walk down the aisle with your ex, and how you got cold feet a few months before the plans were finalized, but didn’t know why that was until today. You had told your ex you just weren’t ready - which wasn’t entirely untrue, but until Bob reentered your life a few minutes ago, it hadn’t dawned on you why you weren’t ready. In reality, it was because no one could ever be Bob. No one could ever give you butterflies like he had, or make you blush when he kissed you on the cheek after asking you to dance at homecoming when you were 15, or hold your hand so protectively as you said goodbye to him when he left for California.
Instead, you told him how you’d gone to NYU for journalism, how you’d entered the field and loved it instantly, how writing was your passion and you loved it so, and you told him how you’d landed the ideal position, working for a major news network writing copy and scripts for the on-air hosts to read off of, working your way up the corporate food chain to make yourself a producer. You told Bob how New York winters were biting cold at times, but how the freshly fallen snow was almost romantic, and how the sight of Central Park at Christmas was stunning, no movie could do it justice. You told him how you adored the way New York had become like a second home to you, how you felt like you’d found the perfect place for you to thrive, something you’d always struggled with growing up in a small town in the south.
Robert nodded his head as you spoke, showing deep interest in your every word and thought as you spoke. He never took his gaze away from you and never once appeared bored or as though his mind was elsewhere as you spoke - he was complete invested and hung up on your every word. When you finished, he smiled and sipped his coffee before leaning back slightly in the booth, his eyes widening slightly, the way they often had when you were growing up and he’d been impressed by something he’d read or seen.
“Wow, you’ve done pretty well for yourself then, I’d say.” He laughs softly, “I haven’t been up to nearly as much, just different tours of duty with the navy, I became a Lieutenant, and became a Naval Weapons Systems Officer, graduated from the Top Gun program, where the top like, 1% of all pilots get called up to. I then joined a task force and did a few more missions with them. I’m still on that task force, but I applied for a leave because it’s been so long since I’ve been home and I haven’t taken a leave in probably,” Robert hums for a moment as he thinks, his cheeks turning red as he speaks, “Honestly? Probably four years. My parents and siblings usually either come to me in California, or I go to my brother’s house in Texas. I don’t often need to come here, but this year my mama wanted to host Thanksgiving, so I opted to come home.”
You noticed that, as Robert spoke, he couldn’t help but keep his focus entirely on you. It was like he was studying your every feature, in case he never got to see them again. The look in his eyes suggested that he never wanted to forget anything about you, as if he was scared that if he didn’t analyze every freckle, every hair on your head and every word that escaped your lips, he’d lose you. Like you’d fade away again, into nothing more than a distant memory. His cheeks continued to blush as he realized he’d been staring at you for longer than he had intended. He shook his head and let out another laugh, this one sounding strained, as if he was trying to cover up any awkwardness that may have arisen because of him.
“You know, I really am glad we ran into each other again,” he nodded slowly. “You know, you’re still the only person who calls me Bobby. Nowadays, I’m always Bob or Robert, if you’re my parents,” he smiles fondly as he mentions the nickname you’ve called him since the day you met him. You decided that hot August afternoon that Bobby just suited him better. He agreed, and despite his mother’s protests that his name was Robert - it stuck. He was always Bobby to you, and he always would be.
“Is that so? No other girls have thought to nickname you Bobby as a pet name?” You laughed as you raised an eyebrow before sipping your coffee. You found it hard to believe that he’d never found anyone else. A man as loving and affectionate as Bobby wasn’t something you found every day, you’d learned. In the past decade, you hadn’t managed to do it, despite your best efforts.
You’d never found a man who matched him perfectly - his sweet personality, his soft spoken nature, his deep baritone voice, his laugh, the way he always protected you fiercely, but yet, always encouraged you to do whatever made you happy, and whatever you felt was best. You’d never met someone who’d rather die for you than ever see you upset. You’d yet to meet another man who’d wiped your tears when you were heartbroken or cuddle up and watch your favourite movie with you over and over again until you smiled when you were having a bad day, or meet another man who made your mother comment with, “Kristen, boys like him don’t come around too often.”. Bobby would always and forever be the only man who could meet all those expectations.
You knew it was unfair of you, and until today, you didn’t even know why you were doing it, but no man could ever be Bobby. You’d rather spend the rest of your life alone than with anyone who wasn’t him, you’d come to notice. You just prayed he felt the same way, or that you at least could convince him that he did before he went back to California, whenever that was.
“Nah, come on now, Krissy,” he chuckled as he used his nickname he’d always reserved for you growing up, “You know I’d never meet another girl who I’d let call me that. We could have been apart for 40 years instead of 10, and I still wouldn’t have let anyone else call me Bobby. That’s always been your thing for me. It wouldn’t feel right if someone else called me that, you know?”
“I do. I feel the same about being called Krissy. I don’t think anyone’s called me that since you left,” you nodded slowly as you let out a soft sigh, looking down at the now empty coffee cup on the table in front of you.
“Krissy?” He said softly, his hand reaching across the table to touch yours ever so gently.
“Mhmm?” You hummed, not wanting to meet his gaze out of fear that one look at him right now would make you crumble and burst into hysterical tears.
“You know, I’ve really enjoyed seeing you. Do you think we could see each other again before I go back to base? I leave on Monday, I’m only here for 5 days, unfortunately,” he said quietly, gently holding your hand across the table. You can sense he has more he wants to say, but it’s like he’s struggling to get the words out.
“I think we can make that work, maybe after Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, we could go for a walk? Our folks still live two houses away from one another, so it’s not like we’ll be too far away from each other for the next few days. It’ll be just like old times.” You confirm, nodding your head reassuringly, trying not to seem too eager or excited at the prospect of seeing him every day for the next five days.
“Sounds good,” Robert smiled warmly as he stood up from the booth, looking down at you with an excited happiness about him, “I’ll come knock on your door after dinner tomorrow then, we can go for a walk like we used to as kids, just enjoy being outside and all that.”
“I’ll hold you to it,” you laugh as you shake your head, standing from your seat.
You smiled softly to yourself as you watched Robert head outside, walking down the street past the window of the coffee shop, his navy quarter zip sweater and dark wash denim jeans suiting him perfectly. You bit your lip to hold back a grin as he walked away. You had five days to work up the courage to tell him how you felt. Five short days. You weren’t sure how you were going to do it, but you were certain about one thing - Bob wasn’t leaving South Carolina without you this time.

Lightning War
You can guess from the name is that I was talking about Blitzkrieg. Yes, the legendary "Blitzkrieg" used by the Germans during WW2.
I was eager to see the failed Austrian Artist, alongside other major characters like him. Of course various battles and operations, different periods of the war. I decided to go all in for WW2, unlike other stories that I will also tell in my blog. I took me more time than I realized or wanted.
About how much time I spent, it doesn't matter, because the Lightning War is what I want to focus on. People threw shade at German for losing the war, but I like to think the powers or what they did are pretty significant. I am mesmerized by 2 things, 1 is the ability to convince other people like Hitler. The guy literally convinced his whole country to go to war against giants of the war. He is literally the best public speech figure ever, and people often look over him, because he is "the guy who lose", but in many ways, he won.
The second thing is their revolutionary warfare, "Blitzkrieg". It is stunning, and dangerous, but overall, beautiful for a guy who likes to study history and warfare. It is what Sun Tzu would be proud of. It was quick, logical, smart, and definitely cheap. Nothing is destroyed but the enemy in Blitzkrieg. One thing to mention here is that the best army in the world at that time is French, and an inferior army like the German can absolutely not do anything against such army.
Only in 3 days, the incredible speed of motorized army crossed the German-French border through the Ardennes into Sedan, ONLY 3 DAYS ARE YOU KIDDNG ME. The barebone defense of France in the mountains has to endure the combination of 60,000 Germans, all are using crystal meth, which transformed them into superhumans, 22,000 vehicles, 850 tanks and the full force of the Luftwaffe as aerial artillery, and radios, which is incredibly new at the time. Look at France, they have to send messages through horses! The move was made possible by the Germans invasion of Denmark and Sweden before as a decoy. Only in 5 days, the German knocked out the Dutch, and encircled 1 million combined troops of France and British on the next day in Belgium and Holland, waiting to die. It was dreadful, and I could see it.
It is this point that the Germans was ordered to stop by Hitler themselves, and the Luftwaffe are ordered to destroyed them, like destroying sitting ducks. Anyway, that's how the Dunkirk miracle happened, but that is another story. I guess one of the wisest thing that France did was moved out of Paris for the German for taking, without it being bombed and like that. And just like that, after 10 days, they did charge into Paris, like heroes, because they are in fact, heroes (for the Germans). They took the city, and just like that, reverse the result of a 4 years old war in the past, which was known as WW1. The feeling of shambles of the French commanders when they have to go into the old carriage that the treaty of Versailles was signed. In 10 days, Hitler did just that, that took German 4 years ago, in a losing state.
Reflective corner: Anyways, those 10 days are legendary (as a historical significance perspective), and was the peek, and the peak of modern warfare. It was awesome to spectate as a 3rd person. And welcome to "what can Canada learn from this?". Well, not much, except that they should use the best technology available out there to their advantage, in every field there is. Also listen to the UK and the US for war advices, they had no history of losing a world war.

Why is Red Dead Redemption 2 a masterpiece in story telling?
Tumblr media
After the release of Red dead Redemption back in 2010 on the XBOX 360 and the PS3, fans were left anticipating the release of the much desired sequel for many years before there was even a sniff of a rumour of the sequel within the works. Come the fall of 2016, all the speculation was put to bed as Rockstar announced the sequel to follow up a story that was already masterful within the first game. Fans were hoping that after an eight year wait, that the story would live up to and even surpass the brilliance that the first game provided. Come the Release of Red Dead Redemption 2, it was safe to say the story definitely did not disappoint, with the game winning several awards for both its story telling and acting chops, being widely regarded by fans as one of the best story driven games of all time.
It is important to firstly look into the biggest selling point of RDR2's story, and that is through its stellar and multiple layered protagonist, 'Arthur Morgan'. A man who is gruff and stubborn but also a very endearing and compassionate. His personality has layers deeper than a gold mine. Arthur struggles with his dark past and his will power to become a better man. He is struck between constant polarizing positions of doing what is right for the gang by any means necessary, even if it means he would cause harm to others or doing what is morally the right thing to do as a good man but risks putting the gang in jeopardy for it. He is a man that the players aren't keen on at the beginning of the game, but as he grows as a characters and learns to show compassion towards others we grow we love him and understand that at the heart he isn't a bad man but in fact has just made bad choices that has placed him in difficult positions.
Moving onto who is regarded as one of the greatest video game antagonists of all time 'Dutch Van Der Linde' a once caring an endearing leader, turns into a selfish and very unpredictable outlaw. He is a man always with a plan (As persistently quoted by Dutch himself). We never fully understand what Dutch's true intentions are, as he is the epitome of a character arc than constantly keeps you guessing.
Arthur and Dutch are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to explaining the depth of the characters within the game. The Van Der Linde gang feels like a real family. Each member has their own personality traits, traits and whacky stories that keeps the players constantly gripped on the narrative and care for the ultimate fates of each person.
With the gap of eight years between the two title releases fans were hoping that Rockstar invested a lot of focus into the immersive world building of the wild west era, with features that add to the accurate verisimilitude of the time setting. By all accounts Rockstar done a masterful job of creating the world within RDR2. Whether it was the bustling streets full of life in Saint Denis or the sleepy and laid back town of valentine and Strawberry, the locations feel constantly alive with unique encounters and interactions with all folks of life, placing the gamers within this chaotic yet realistic setting of 1899 Wild West America. It is as if Rockstar somehow captured the American frontier on a hard drive and dropped it straight into our consoles.
RDR2 doesn't just impress us with its stunning visuals and realistic character's you could possibly encounter within this setting. The story is incredibly gripping, with twists and turns round every corner. The gang is persistently on the run from the law, moving from location to location and never allow themselves to put their guards down. Their are both moral and ethical dilemmas that they all face. There are underlying themes of deep trust and heart-breaking betrayal. At times we don't see which one is going to come from who before it is too late. The story isn't just your stereotypical and run in the mill wild west tale filled with gang heists, shootouts and visiting saloons, it is a story of loyalty and redemption and the butterfly effect like consequences for the actions each character makes. Even the side quests are filled with intrigue and mystery.
Each quest can feel like it's own little dramatic story, whether that's helping a scientist bring his robot to life, assisting the town folk in hunting down a vampire or helping two brothers decide who is more macho in order to win over the lady of their dreams, each unique encounter can be filled with such mystery, hysteria, and hearth pumping moments, keeping the player constantly gripped in this immersive world.
The little moments implemented throughout the world is really the icing on the cake. The drunken campfire stories, the various card games that can be played within saloons, the humble and down to earth conversations that can be had on horseback whilst you slowly ride through the desert night, they all combine to the rich tapestry of life within the old west.
In the end, what makes Red Dead Redemption 2 more than just your squash buckling trigger happy western is its uncompromising ability to play with your heart and emotions by immersing you into this world where you deeply care for the characters and how they fit into its complex yet heart wrenching story. The game isn't afraid to take on difficult themes, and forcing you to take on tough choices that make you question your own morality but also you own loyalty on who should place your trust into and who you should turn your back on, with the story ending leaving you with a tear in your eye.

Emperor Yongzheng's First Nine Kings Seize the Throne
By the time everyone looked, Chuang Tzu was already near, and the setting sun had already set. It was the time to make dinner, but it was very strange. In such a large town, tYin Zhen and others behind him. He nodded and said, "It used to be Jiangxia Town.". Our master Liu bought to do Zhuangyuan, now is Liu house. Two hundred miles around. Who doesn't know? Are you afraid of being from other places? Yin Zhen can not help but be stunned, Yin Xiang was also taken aback, good darling, this town is comparable to a medium-sized county, how much money to buy? But at a glance, they knew that they were not lying. A small half of the main street had been demolished, scaffolding was tied up to build the main house gate tower, and a large area of houses in the east had been destroyed. Rows of tall houses were dark, much like newly built warehouses. Not far in front of the gate tower, cherry blossom wedding centerpiece, there were wooden poles with "dead wind" lamps hanging on them. Some of these Zhuangding were holding fire folds, and some were carrying sticks. Looks like he's here to light the patrol. Yin Xiang couldn't help exclaiming, "What a good trend!"! Please tell the Villa Leader that we are the filial piety and honest people who are driving to the north. We have lost our way. It's already dark now. We'll borrow the precious land of Baozhuang for a night's rest and go on our way tomorrow morning. "Listen to what he said," said the first man with a smile. "Tell us to tell the Villa Leader that we are all guarding the Villa in the outer courtyard. How many floors are there from Master Liu's second steward! As I said, don't bother with this as early as possible. There is a dry shop in Shilipu to the north. It's an official road all the way. It's just right to walk in the cool night. I won't miss dinner when I get there. "Chief Wang," said one of the villagers next to him, "there are a few white-faced scholars. There are many empty houses in the north of the village. No matter where they stay for a night at random, it's a shame." "You're not sensible," said the king. The second uncle of Uncle Ren in Beijing came with a group of Suzhou girls. It was so hot that it was inconvenient to come and go. The master's temper was so bad that we could afford it? Even they will suffer losses. Isn't that kind of me? As they were talking, Kaner slipped into the crowd without a word and quietly stuffed a bag into one of Zhuangding's hands. The man pinched it with his hand. It was a copper. He stepped forward and said with a smile, "Well!"! Wang Tou'er, just let people take a few days, so loyal to protect the country? As I said, silk ficus tree ,fake ficus tree, who walks with a house on his back? There are two rooms in the old cemetery of the Zhang family in the northwest of the village. Let them live in them. As soon as the gate is closed, they are outside the village. What's the matter wthe courtyard, and behind me is the old grave of the Zhang family. The crowd understood and filed in. To the northeast corner of the door, the old king shook his head and asked for the key to open the door. With a wave of his hand, Yin Zhen was the first to come out, and then Gao Fuer, the dog Kaner, also went out of the door. "Look," said Lao Wang Tou, "there are two rooms over there, outdoor ficus tree, where the grave-keepers used to live. There are straw mats in them, and they are fairly clean. There are many of you, and you are not afraid of ghosts. 。 hacartificialtree.com

My Reason | K. Brekker
Tumblr media
pairing: kaz brekker x female reader
warnings: cursing? maybe slightly out of character?
wc; 2k
synopsis: kaz brekker makes a desperate attempt to protect you, but it backfires for both parties
prompts: 015: “You’re everywhere I go!” 020: “I just wanted you to be happy.”
a/n: kaz brekker: *breathes* me: I LOVE YOU YOUVE DONE NOTHING WRONG MY SWEET CHILD
Masterlist | Taglist | Prompt List
You felt like crying.
Scratch that. You were going to cry.
You were going to cry and possibly throw something, anything. You wanted to grab a knife and chuck it at the wall repeatedly until there was a hole.
You wanted the wall to feel the same pain as you.
Like there was a hole in it.
Ironic.
Kaz Brekker, dirtyhands, the bastard of the barrel, shattered your heart. And he probably didn’t even know it or cared.
Kaz only cared, for one thing, money. You couldn’t blame him for that. Money was something necessary in Ketterdam. You needed money to stay alive and above the rest.
But money also puts a sign on your head. A big red blinking sign that probably says something like “big kill, big money.”
You weren’t stupid. You were very well aware of how big of a sign Kaz had on his head. Plenty of people wanted his head on a spike. You almost want to add yourself to the list.
“What?” You asked, voice small.
“Don’t make me repeat it.”
Kaz doesn’t bother to look at you. His eyes stay trained at his desk, filing through paperwork for the slat. He scribbles on them, whether it be a signature or a check.
“I don’t understand.”
“I’ve made myself clear.”
“No.”
“I’m not asking.”
“I don’t want to.”
“(Y/N), this isn’t up for debate.”
“Well, it should be! I should be allowed to have a say in this.”
“You don’t get one!” Kaz said harshly, finally meeting your eyes. “Out.”
You want to refuse, sit there and scream at him for the rest of the night. But you can’t. Kaz Brekker won either way. It doesn’t matter if you sat in his office the rest of the night and argued. His say was final. You would only be denying the inevitable by fighting.
You stand up, blinking through the tears forming in your eyes. The words slip past your lips before you even realize.
“I hate you.”
You slam the door shut behind you, missing the way Kaz’s face drops, and his pen explodes from the force of his grip.
He had kicked you out like that. Stripped you of everything you are. One mission gone wrong, and you were booted back onto the streets of Ketterdam.
He had kicked you from the Dregs.
It wasn’t even your fault. You didn’t understand his reasoning. You got shot, and the next thing you know, as soon as you've recovered, you’re alone.
And honestly, if Pekka Rollins himself asked you to murder Kaz, you just might. The Dregs weren't a gang; they were a family. They were home to you.
A home that you hadn’t had in a while, but it wasn’t just the Dregs. It was Kaz Brekker. The bastard of the barrel was also the person that held your heart in his hands. He was the person you went to at midnight when you didn’t know what else to do.
He was the person that listened to you.
He was your person.
But you weren’t his.
You grabbed the knife off the table and throw it as hard as you can at the wall.
You miss.
You grab the knife, wiping away the tears blurring your vision, and aim again. This time it lands in the wall. You clutch it and throw it again.
And again.
And again.
The Crow Club is still as lively as ever as you walk past it. You contemplate going inside, but you know better. A shadow catches your eye behind you, but there’s no one out here but you.
And yet, you can’t shake the feeling of being watched. Then again, any member of the Dregs was constantly being watched.
You shrugged it off.
Work was easy to find in a place like Ketterdam. It was also easy as one of the top assassins. You busied yourself in easy missions with easy targets.
It was the one thing in your life that remain stable. It was after one of these missions while cleaning your knife, did you see her.
“Inej?”
The said girl steps out of the shadows, silent as ever, and pulls down her face covering. “Hey.”
“What are you doing here?”
“The same thing as you.”
You use your knife to gesture to the dead man on the floor, and she nods.
“Looks like I beat you to it,” You joke, tucking your knife away and rolling your shoulders.
“It would appear so.”
You want to ask how everything is, and despite every bone in your body, how Kaz is.
But instead, you turn around to leave.
“We miss you,” Inej blurts.
You freeze, letting your shoulders fall. “I miss you guys, too.”
“He’s an idiot.”
“You don’t have to tell me that.”
Inej nods, stepping back into the shadows, and you leave, an aching in your heart.
But that wasn’t the last time you ran into Inej. You saw her everywhere after that and nowhere at the same time. At first, you didn’t mind, but then it became unsettling.
You felt like you were being watched in your own home, but there was no one. It was hard to explain. You always saw her in town, but the feeling of being watched couldn’t be shaken when you got home.
You didn’t know how to explain it. You wanted to call her out on it, but you said nothing.
Until you did catch her in your house.
You let her off with a warning by throwing a knife into her corner. It was never going to hit her, neither of you would allow it, but she stepped out after that.
You raise an eyebrow at her. “What are you doing?”
“Checking on you.”
“That’s bullshit.”
“I’m just looking out-”
“You’re everywhere I go!” You shout, “Everywhere, Inej. If you wanted to look out for me, you could use the door and ask!”
“I’m sorry,” The Suli girl said.
You pinch the bridge of your nose, sighing. You feel bad for yelling at her. Inej was one of your closest friends, and she was only looking out for you. “Inej, it’s fine I just-”
“It’s Kaz.”
“Kaz?” You question, voice softening.
“He wants to know that you’re okay, and not dead. Every time you go on a mission, he sends me as unofficial backup.”
“I can take care of myself. If he’s so worried about my safety, he shouldn’t have kicked me out in the first place," You snap.
“Maybe you should tell him that.”
You turn to face Inej, but when you do, she’s gone.
Kaz? This was his doing? You didn’t believe her, but you also knew she wouldn’t lie. You sit on the edge of your bed, staring out the window. Kaz wants to know if you’re okay.
Kaz Brekker, the man that kicked you from the Dregs wants to make sure you’re okay. The thought should be comforting, but it’s more infuriating to you. At first, you thought maybe he had changed his mind, but this was worse. He didn't trust you to take care of yourself or respect you in the slightest.
You were angry at him. You didn’t understand why, and he refused to tell you. He was so stuck up, thinking that keeping his feelings from others would make him appear stronger.
But the strongest thing anyone can do is admit them.
You stand up, grabbing your knife from the wall and tucking it into your belt.
There was someone you needed to see.
It’s bitter cold outside, biting and chilling. It forces you to walk faster towards the Slat. No one questions you when you walk in; it’s normal to them.
In fact, they look happy to see you.
Jesper’s eyes light up, and he goes to hug you, but Wylan pulls him back.
“That’s her pissed-off face.”
“I would wear earplugs if I were you,” Nina warns, “(Y/N) doesn’t back down from a fight and certainly not with Kaz.”
You make no comment and step past them, making your way up to his office.
You don’t bother knocking and throw open the door, eyes blazing.
Kaz’s head snaps up from his work, equally pissed that someone dared to open his door without permission, but then his eyes soften.
“You’re supposed to knock first, you know that,” Kaz said sharply.
You roll your eyes, slamming the door behind you. Nina smirks as she sits with the other crows outside the door, all wearing earplugs to reduce the sound of your screaming that's bound to come.
“I don’t care about your petty rules, Brekker.”
Venom drips from your voice, and Kaz sets down his pen, leaning back in his chair. “Is there something you want?”
“An explanation.”
“I can’t offer you that.”
“Kaz, you promised.”
His lip twitches ever so slightly at that.
“You promised me this. We made a deal. And Kaz Brekker goes through with all his deals.”
Kaz is silent. He’s at a loss for words. Dirtyhands did not have the upper hand here, and it seemed he was finally stunned.
“You can’t just send Inej out to watch over me after you kicked me out, okay? If you don’t have an explanation, at least let me live the rest of my life without you watching over.”
Nothing.
You sigh, pushing the tears back, ready to make your way out of the slat for the last time, but then he speaks. His voice is raspier than usual but soft, almost like a whisper.
“I just wanted you to be happy.”
“Happy?” You scoff. “Why would that ever make me happy?”
“It was a way out.”
“Out of what, Kaz?”
“This!” He shouts, standing up and gesturing to the walls around you both. “This lifestyle of doing the dirty work to survive and always having a sum of money plastered on your forehead.”
“I don’t want out!”
“It was a way for you to escape…. to escape me.”
There’s silence as you process his words. You wanted to be angry at Kaz and continue to lash out at him, but you understand. He had given you your reason, and you're damned because it's a good one.
But you didn't want to escape him. Kaz was the only reason you stayed in Ketterdam; he was the thing that kept you grounded here. He was your person.
“Why would I ever want that?”
“You hate me.”
You shake your head, “Kaz-”
He cuts you off, switching topics. “This lifestyle isn’t meant for you.”
“It’s not meant for any of us.”
“I gave you a chance.”
“You gave me a reason.”
“A reason?”
Kaz waits for an answer, but you’re afraid to give it. The hardest thing anyone can do is admit their feelings. And you're unsure if you're strong enough to face them.
Kaz Brekker was stone cold, and you don't know if he'd drop the facade, even for you.
“You are the reason I deal with this lifestyle,” You finally said, voice barely above a whisper as you feel the weight lift from your shoulders. “Because it’s worth it. You are worth it.”
“I am not worth anything,” Kaz dismissed.
“Kaz Rietveld, you are worth everything to me.”
The boy freezes, and you take a step forward, placing your hand inches from his. Your heart beats madly in your chest, and you feel like you're suffocating as you wait for an answer, a reaction, anything. You expect him to pull away, but he doesn't. He stares at your hand inches from his on his desk.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers.
“It’s okay,” You said.
His eyes meet yours, and you can see the fear in them. His hands are shaky, but he manages to take yours in them. He still wears his gloves, and your hands are just barely resting on top of his, but it means enough to you.
“You’re worth everything to me,” he repeats back to you.
Your heart bursts in your chest as Kaz squeezes your hand lightly. The action means everything to you.
Nina screams in triumph with the rest of the crows outside the door.
You and Kaz laugh, still holding his hand.
And at that moment, you know, you are his everything, and he is yours.

Hi! I looove your posts! Thank you so much for sharing your writing!
I was wondering… could you maybe write about the Four Lords with a shy S/O that gets bold and defensive when someone insults the lords? or calls them names? And the Lord’s reaction to the S/O acting different? Dk if im explaining myself >.<
Again! Love your work! Have a great day!
We stan protective partners on this blog!!
Warnings: uh...insults? They're pretty over the top😅 Also swearing.
Alcina Dimitrescu
Honestly, Alcina is more than able to defend herself.
She's got a tongue like a viper, and the thickest skin imaginable. If you really want to hurt her feelings, you have to be someone whom she already respects to a certain degree, or she won't even be phased.
Still, when she leaves a room, there's always some idiot that thinks it's a smart idea to talk shit.
Maybe it's a maid, maybe it's a guest in the Castle, but either way you're not having it.
"God, you're annoying." There was a pause before they opened their mouth again, and you rolled your eyes. "No please, by all means, continue to share your lack of taste with the rest of us."
You disassemble this dumbass, starting small with comments about their personality (trying to keep it classy), but escalating the more they choose to double down on the comments.
Alcina comes back into the room to find you practically screaming at this asshole.
"Look, all you have accomplished here today is revealing that you are a fundamental disappointment on every possible level. My life is worse now that I've heard you open your mouth, you disrespectful, shit licking worm fucker."
Alcina is stunned. You do not give off "aggressive guard dog" vibes at all, yet here you are defending her tooth and nail. While she had seen brief moments of your inner strength and protective streak (mostly towards her daughters) she just...never thought you would do the same for her.
It's not because she doesn't trust you or love you! But nobody has ever done something like this for her before? Ever? She's never had anyone try to protect her--not physically, and not even verbally. She's been so independent for so long that it's... Strange to see you support her so openly.
She doesn't need you to do this for her, she doesn't even expect it, but you do it anyway for no other reason than the fact that you love her. You want people to give her the respect she deserves.
I'm going to be real here: Alcina has never been closer to swooning before in her life. You're overcoming your shyness because you believe in her so much-- it's not a gesture meant to be romantic, but Alcina can't help but see this as a massive statement of your commitment to her.
Seriously. This is such a massive thing for her that if proposals weren't already on her mind, she is mentally picking out a ring for you the minute this happens.
Then, of course, she glides into the room, kisses you until you're breathless and babbling, and smirks at the unfortunate peon who thought they could get away with insulting House Dimitrescu.
She's in such a good mood that she's considering going easy on the idiot. Maybe removing their tongue would be enough of a warning?
Donna Dimitrescu
You don't really know how it's possible but apparently some people don't like Donna Beneviento? Some people think she's scary and unpleasant????
Wild. Can't imagine what that's like.
The two of you are honestly the sweetest, most toothrottingly adorable couple-- blushing when you hold each other's hands, sneaking glances at each other across rooms, giving each other kisses and forgetting whatever was on your mind...
Honestly, anybody who's critical of your relationship with your girlfriend is just a hater. Fuckers can pound sand😤
Still, you are pretty shy, so it takes a lot for you to defend yourself if someone comments about you. It can take a lot of courage to stand up against rude remarks, and sometimes it's easier to walk away.
Defending Donna, on the other hand?
The minute someone even thinks about dismissing her, you are ready to throw hands.
"My lovely girlfriend already said no, meaning you're either deaf or too stupid to pick up on simple social cues," you purse your lips and give the rude and pushy Villager a patronizing once over. "You and your opinion are equally useless. Get the fuck away from us."
Donna blinks.
She... Was not expecting this??? At all?? You're so nice! You always tell her about your attempts to avoid confrontation! What's going on??? How did you get the guts to say what she's always wanted to say?
Meanwhile, Angie is LIVING.
The little doll chimes in to assist you with the verbal homicide, working as a tag team to absolutely murder this moron. She's half partner, half hype man, and is so excited to do this with you. Normally, she has to protect Donna all by herself, but she's relieved and reassured that you stepped in first.
'USELESS IS TOO NICE, THOUGH! THAT IMPLIES THEY AREN'T A POINTLESS, RANCID, LONELY FREAK. THEY LOOK LIKE THEY CRY WHEN THEY MASTURBATE.'
You high five Angie, still glaring daggers at the unfortunate villager.
The two of you continue to ream into the villager, while Donna hovers nearby.
As surprised as she is, she's also grateful. She's only really ever had Angie to help shield her from insults and disrespect (and occasionally inducing horrifying hallucinations that make people claw off their own skin), but having you in her corner makes her feel safe.
Not to get totally sappy, but you're like her knight in shining armor in a lot of ways. And the fact you two are so similar is really motivating-- She wants to one day be confident enough to return the favor. Until then, she's happy to watch her two favorite people have fun insulting some stranger ❤️
Salvatore Moreau
With you being so shy, Salvatore is surprised how often he takes the lead in your relationship.
He's not normally all that outgoing, but you seem to bring out a side of him that's very protective. Whenever you have a bad day he wants to bundle you up and keep you safe from the world.
If he so much as holds your hand you start stuttering and avert your gaze. It creates a feedback loop where you both get flustered, but Moreau has never felt steadier. Despite your shyness, you make sure he knows how much you love him.
You're sweet as pie and twice as kind--Salvatore is the luckiest man in the world, nobody can convince him otherwise 💕💕
So it comes as a total shock that when a passing fisherman spits in your path and calls him a freak, your entire demeanor does a 180.
Your posture straightens and you look the villager dead in the eye, "I don't believe anyone asked your opinion."
Salvatore: 😳
This is not the time, and he totally knows it, but, uh, something about your tone??? Really does it for him???
While he's attempting to process why exactly he's starting to short circuit, you proceed to verbally shred this person to bits with clinical efficiency-- nothing is off limits.
They might try to defend themselves, but it's useless. You do not let up.
"Ugly? Monster? Bitch your teeth are throwing gang signs, don't throw stones from your shining glass house."
You insult their appearance, what they're holding, their smell-- you get so fucking mean that you might even make them cry.
Moreau is just lost right now, trying hard to figure out how exactly you were able to gain all of this confidence so quickly.
He's not upset! In fact he's very flattered! But, he also doesn't want you to get into a fight with some unimportant stranger. (After all, if they so much as throw a punch, they're straight up dead. Moreau is a patient man, but he's not that patient. You do not hurt his partner and live to tell the tale.)
He may a healer but...
Eventually he steps between you and the fisherman in an attempt to deescalate the situation, but you just kiss him on the cheek and step around him, determined to make your point.
Blushing hard, Moreau lets you do what you want. What can he say? Fish man likes himself a protective partner 💞
Karl Heisenberg
Magnet Man is not the most social guy to begin with, so any opportunities you have to stick up for him are already pretty slim.
He mostly knows you as the shy, sweet, easily flustered partner that lets out a cute squeak every time he sneaks up to hug you from behind.
Karl's honestly happy just to spend time with you all alone in the Factory. It's not the best or healthiest mindset, but he'd be perfectly content to only ever see you for the rest of his life. Spending time with anybody else feels like a boring waste in comparison.
But occasionally, you do head out into town with him. Heisenberg wants you to be safe so he doesn't do it often, but running errands with you is a weakness of his. It's domestic in a way that he's never experienced before.
He likes it ❤️
What he does not like is the shopkeeper starting to give their opinions on the quality of your relationship with him.
Most insults Karl will let slide because he doesn't particularly care. However if anyone makes a comment on how scared (shy) you look around him, how you must be being threatened into being with him, how poorly Lord Heisenberg is treating you...he won't stand for it.
But before his fingers can even twitch towards his hammer, you snap.
"You're clearly the blindest cocksucker I've ever met--so wipe the cum out of eyes and mind your own fucking business."
Karl does a double take.
He's heard you curse before, but quietly. The words coming out of your mouth are WILD right now, he has NEVER seen you so angry. You're defending him with the aggression of a wild animal, and it's simultaneously HILARIOUS, but for some reason he's also getting a warm fuzzy feeling in his chest?
He doesn't need you to protect him like this, but seeing you blatantly argue how much you love and cherish him in public reassures him in a way he didn't know he needed.
Still, hearing you call the shopkeeper "shit for brains" is the funniest thing that's happened in years.
Heisenberg starts laughing, and the more you shout at the idiot, the harder he laughs. Is it weird how hard he wants to kiss you right now?
Eventually, he just has to drag you away, cackling as you continue to shout insults at the unfortunate shopkeep. There's got to be an alley around here for some good old fashioned privacy 💕

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐒/𝐎 𝐖𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐀𝐓 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐓𝐈
PAIRINGS: Draken, Baji, Mitsuya & Ran x gn!reader
GENRE: fluff
Tumblr media
♡ 𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐍 was always one to admire street art, even dedicated enough to get it tatted on his skin to pay his thanks to it. So when he notices new sets of murals on the walls across the town, he's stunned to know the artist.
- Right when he was just walking in the alley, he began to hear the familiar sound of spray cans in the corner and he sees a figure up on a ladder, clad in a mask while being busy with painting the wall. His eyes skim through the variation of letterings and styles all in one large spacing and he's left speechless to finally see you sign your signature in it, finishing it up.
You then turned to him and is surprised at how he just stood there making you lose balance at the top of the ladder so Draken sprints to catch you and he does it so easily while you pull off your mask as you fall in his arms.
"Thank you." You said and the blonde could feel like he got stunned for a second when you pulled your mask down.
"I'm Draken." He introduces himself once he's set you down with a smile. "I'm Y/N." You bid in return before you're setting down the ladder.
"That is sick. Are you the same artist for all of the big pieces in alleys like these?" He asked while he helped you clean up your cans, picking them up and handing them to you.
"That's me."
"You are.. amazing." He stuttered but focuses on trying to keep up a conversation with you as you smiled at him.
"I'll see you around, Draken." You said standing up, slinging your bag over your shoulders and before you turn away, you spoke again.
"By the way, I love your tattoo." You ended before walking away, leaving him with a smile.
- Next time he sees you, you're at the shop buying for new cans and he's a bit too delighted to meet you again.
"You mind if I see how you create your masterpieces, Y/N?" The blonde asked, half joking just to find an excuse to get to know you more. Beaming at his request, you suddenly agreed.
"Of course, hopefully it's okay with you that I usually paint them quite late." You explained while he hides his grin from the excitement at your offer.
"Any time is good with me. Just text me the location?" He smoothly insisted to grab your number as he hands you his phone and you type in your number. Before you can leave though, he taps your shoulder.
"If you have time today, wanna go get some lunch?" And then the hang outs didn't stop there.
- It was easy being with you, he thinks. You were so casual with each other as if you didn't just meet last night.
- He began to ask questions on what got you into art so he listens well to each of your stories, liking you more than he possibly could.
- When the night comes in, he's sat behind you while you work but he insisted to help whenever you needed him. He's just awestruck to what you were doing, every stroke and every precise splatter or drip to a lettering was all cohesive to one piece and it drives his heart to speedrun at your talent.
- You invite him to come and draw something too even if he begs to differ that he doesn't have that specific skill so you just remind him he was free to do anything.
- While you finish your art, you were staring at it proudly unknown that the same stare you had was mirrored onto Draken's except he was looking at you so these nights became your usual dates, if he can even call it that.
- He tries to spice it up the next night, bringing a picnic basket which surprised you as you got on his motorcycle while he takes you to a quiet park and you two continue on with getting along.
- He'd also love to take you to the motorcycle shop, shyly ask you if you could paint something for his bike which of course you'd agree to with no hesitation.
- When you're both trying to brainstorm for some designs on the motorcycle, he loves how you were so natural in your element, just sketching around with beauty in both the paper and in you. That moment right there leads Draken to firmly ask you out, in a way that doesn't just mean graffiti nights—he wanted this artist to be his and go through the process of courting just to hear that yes from you.
- Now that the courting stage has began, it feels like it's gotten more easier to fall for your art and to fall for you just like you fell for him from the moment he caught you when you met.
- He's a bit more open to how he adored every piece of your work and he makes sure to fill you in new cans whenever you needed them and always the first one to take a photo of your work to boast to Toman.
- With a few more pushes of confidence and extra months, Draken finally asks you in a manner he thought was fitting for you.
"Hey, I have this idea for my bike. Can you check it out for me?" He asks, slipping through a piece of paper to you side while you rested your chin to your palm as you unfolded it with your other hand, only to feel flustered at what he wrote.
Can I be yours, Y/N?
Grabbing your pen, you smiled as you answered his question. "I think it needs a few more tinkers but I think this makes the cut." You followed through before you passed the paper to him and sees how you wrote yes right beneath to his question while he cheers.
"Then that settles it."
Tumblr media
♡ 𝐁𝐀𝐉𝐈 likes to take out his frustration in ways that are a bit extra compared to others. So seeing him rage with the spray can in hand and just doodling whatever he was feeling onto the wall wasn't entirely new but you stopped midway once you caught him.
"Hello? I'm sorry I think that's mine." You said, trying to catch his attention to which he turned around too angrily but when he sees you and shifts his gaze to the spray can that had initials on it, he sighs.
"No no, you go ahead and—do whatever. As long as you return to me after it, I'll be here on the other side of the wall." You approached him, putting on your mask, sending him a sweet smile before opening your bag to stand beside him and get to your own work.
"..thanks." he whispers but still felt slightly guilty for using it up too much.
"Here, want to swap?" You asked aiming a black colored one to him as he catches it. "If you want, you can always join me to this side." You offered while he got curious of what you were sketching.
"Sure, I don't mind at all."
- And that's how you two met, helping him calm down as he helps you create your mural which leaves him amazed and immediately asks for your number.
- Meeting up with him wasn't impossible because he'd usually be the first to initiate how you've been and what designs you've been working on which was quite sweet so you always answered as fast as you could and invite him for more rage free paint therapy sessions. Sneaking in a few more tricks, he actually gets to score some alone time with you to the park and he makes sure to add how he wants to be taught in arts.
- Once you do get to the park and you're teaching him the basics, you've got his full attention for the wrong reasons. You looked so pretty explaining—you were also too kind to actually be indepth with techniques he can do just to feel a little better in his painting.
- While you were busy on your own canvas, he was peaking over your shoulder and sees just how you're painting with ease, capturing the scene in front of you perfectly.
"You're really good, Y/N. Everything you do is so cool." Baji compliments with a toothy grin as you blush at his words.
- Sometimes, Baji would let you draw on him, acting as if they were his tattoos so you played along finding it a funny idea. That's why you're either rolling up his sleeve to show off his upper arm so you can draw on it but c'mon—he can be one heck of a distraction.
"My muscles looking fine there?" He teased as you rolled your eyes but hide your fluster. "I wasn't looking, Baji."
"Hey hey, I didn't even say you were in the first place."
"..."
- Once you're done, Baji strolls in a casual hangout with Toman in a sleeveless outfit to show off your creation and the rest were completely baffled at how he got a tattoo until Mikey licks his thumb and swipes it across the ink and it immediately fades, making the blonde laugh.
- Going through a few more hang outs and comfortability around each other, you were able to bring him to your tiny studio where paint balloons were stuck to the wall while there was a can filled with darts for you to take and Baji was over the moon. You tell him to wear the plastic suit to avoid any stains on your clothes and he was seriously so excited.
- The fun begins as well as the bets and competition to pop as much balloons, not even realizing how time seems to pass. Baji would definitely grab one of the balloons and throw them right at you, laughing at your reaction and a new found war begins.
- The next time you're working on another mural, Baji insists for you to get on his shoulders so you can reach a few inches up, even if you protest—he was really okay with it so here you are, thighs sat on his shoulders like you were playing chicken at a pool.
"Baji? Are you okay there?" You asked, regretful you've misplaced your ladder. "Stop worrying, you idiot." He reassures you, patting your thigh while you smile as your heart flutters.
- If you do feel like you're about to fall, you're tapping on his head but of course, he'd tease you before he can put you down. He'd tilt his body as you held onto him and his laugh just echoes through the street like a fool.
"Fine fine." He says while he held onto your hips as he lowers his body for you to hop off, once you did—his hands were sort of glued to your hips while you stared at each other, growing shy and at the same time you both backed away with nervous chuckles.
- Later on, he does remind you how much he loves to see you so passionate over art and his compliments never fail to make you smile.
- For the grand question, Baji actually took your lessons by heart and began to paint your favorite flowers when he came back to one of your unfinished paintings since weren't there yet.
- You arrive to feel your heart awe at how he was giving lots of effort into his section so you approach him with a proud smile. "That looks so nice, Baji." You complimented him. "I was actually hoping for more art lessons," he says while turns his body which was previously hiding the flower in his hand while he gives it to you as you melt under his action. "But this time, I'd prefer some popcorn and a good movie with you, that is, if you're up for it, Y/N." He asked as you embrace him as an answer making him chuckle yet wraps his arms around you.
"As long as I get to be with you then I'm all for it, Keisuke."
Tumblr media
♡ 𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐘𝐀, ever since he was a kid has always been into art just like you were so this couple-to- be was meant for each other.
- He likes to stop by the alley where he drew the dragon he and Draken got tatted together but he was surprised to see someone else admiring it. So, he tries to make small talk with you.
"It's faded now." He tried to start as you turned to him with a soft glance.
"I know right, it's such a beautiful piece too. I wish I could meet the artist." You answered while he stares wide eyed at you and before he can reveal himself, you were being called to school.
"I'm sorry, I have to go." You bid him then walked away while Mitsuya was left dumbfounded.
- The next night he passes by on one of your half finished pieces and he smiles at how he was so attracted to every part of it despite the lack of color on the tail of it. You catch him, familiarizing him as the boy from before so you approach him.
"It looks weird, huh?" You asked him referring to your own work while he shakes his head. "I think it looks fantastic as it is." He stated, smiling slightly.
"Well, hopefully I can still fix it up a bit." You said, opening your bag to reach for your cans as Mitsuya stares at you confused. "I'm sorry..but are you the artist?"
"Oh it's fine but yes, I'm Y/N." You properly introduced while the lilac haired boy felt his heartbeat leap at your identity. ".. I've always liked this mural—I can say it's an honor to meet you." He joked but reached his hand out as you shake it.
"I'm Mitsuya and I—am the artist of the dragon one we saw earlier." And now it was your turn to be struck. "No way!"
Baam, that's how you met each other, a perfect example of coincidence at it's finest.
- You promised to exchange numbers so you'll get to hang out more since you two were tied to one common interest. Mitsuya can't help but find the situation really funny yet he was happy to meet you. He was a kid back then, he's fallen more into sewing but it was refreshing to look back on something he liked to do in the past. Bonus points that you were hella pretty so he won't complain about this interaction.
- You often meet up where the dragon mural was, eating as Takashi provides you the stories to what happened at that very place which you enjoyed listening to. You even shared a few laughs at how he got stuck with a tattoo and your own childhood moments that led you to be expressive through art.
- With that one hangout, you two were stuck on each other's mind and the next couple weeks were just used to get to be around you more. Mitsuya began to visit you in your studio more often than he should, sometimes bringing in his sisters just to help watch them.
"Can you draw me a butterfly?" Luna asked, pointing to her cheek as Mana tugged on your shirt. "Can I get a flower?" She timidly said as you chuckled. "Anything for you girls."
- While you were painting on his sisters, Mitsuya took the time to walk around your place, admiring every sketch, canvas, experimentations of different styles and colorings—he loved everything. He sees the smile and glow in you when you were painting so he thought you were really passionate about it.
- The girls were so in love with what you did as it seems like it was actually their brothers turn to get his 'tattoo' as he rolls up his sleeve for you to work on his forearm. "Can I hold your hand if the needle hurts?" He joked but soon, you two got shy at the thought of holding each other's hand.
- As you start drawing on him, Mitsuya holds back his tongue to avoid letting you go out of focus so he just lets his eyes rest on you, letting his heart roam unsteady to see you this close.
"You're gorgeous." He whispers, out of thought until he clears his throat making you chuckle.
"You too, Mitsu."
- Note that there will be multiple picnics and late night rides on his motorcycle. For others, it was a usual get together but for you two, they were declared as dates already. One of those days, Mitsuya decides to draw you on your own notebook while your stomach was flat to the blanket you were on, busied with your own canvas and as you rest your hand, his fingers brush over yours making you both smile before letting his hand rest on top of yours.
And once you got home, you opened your notebook to be greeted by a well drawn photo of you and your phone lit up at a message from the same boy.
"Meet me tomorrow at 9am, back to the first mural of yours that I fell in love with."
- You've never been more excited to wake up, readying yourself for what was about to happen and you were already out the door at 8:40, exhilarated to travel your way to that same alley. Mitsuya was leaning on the wall before you could turn, softly reaching for your hand. "Good morning, Y/N but excuse me for a second, yeah?" He greets you, walking behind you as he covered your eyes, guiding you gently.
"Are you ready?" He whispered to your ear, making you before his hands drop to your shoulder letting your eyes feast on the mural of your shadow at the park covered in multiple different colors and strokes of his own design where your hands touched, stomach down to the blanket, not caring about what's surrounding you as the background was just plainly the park you two had gone to—depicting that no matter the beauty of what was behind you, it was you who stood out to him.
"Takashi, I-"
"Crap, I forgot to peal off those stencils. Do you mind removing it for me?" He says, pointing to a corner as you bit your lip, holding back a laugh at his smooth move. You removed it slowly, revealing every word while your heart falters. When you've successfully removed the two stencils, your eyes reread the words it left.
Will you let me love you?
Looking back at him with a smile, you made your way to him, leaning a peck on his cheek while he blushes as you spoke,
"Of course, Mitsuya."
Tumblr media
♡ 𝐑𝐀𝐍 often loses his train of thought so he's left to stare at the walls in front of him, trying to erase whatever he'd been thinking of that night. His eyes dance over to your creation, admiring every part of it until he doesn't register how you've bumped into him.
"Oh sorry." You said, bowing and from your hand that was wrapped around your bag that had loads of paint scratches on them, Ran begins to think if you were the one who made the mural. "Let's go, Ran." Rin reminded his brother while you turned to the younger Haitani, recognizing him and he did the same with you.
"Oh, hey Y/N." He greets, when he realizes it was the same person who'd take time to finish the mural every night.
"You know them?" Ran surprisingly asked, shifting his gaze to the two of you.
"Y/N, this is my brother. Y/N is the one whose good at the murals just like our tattoo." Rindou explained and somehow, Ran was amazed.
"Well hello, an artist huh?" The older brother said, extending his hand out while you took it.
"I guess you can say." You replied with a kind smile.
And once you left, Ran's curiousness doesn't get pass his brother so Rindou spoke.
"They stop by here same time as today just to finish that mural of theirs. Go visit them or whatever." While he receives a pat from the taller boy. "You really are a good little brother."
- He doesn't know why he got interested, he can't choose between being an admirer to your work and wanting to ask what's gotten you to be this expressive or to simply get to call you as an acquaintance.
- He was quite skeptical to visit the upcoming nights feeling like he was being too eager since you were just a mere stranger but he still stopped by, actually coming in contact with a spray can of yours that fell from your hands while you were on the ladder.
"Nice to see you too." He chuckles before handing it to you.
"Thanks, Ran. What's got you here at this hour?" You asked, returning to your station to avoid how startled you were because of him.
"I noticed how it was unfinished so I wanted to watch you or in this case help since you've got no one to hold that ladders of yours."
- Much to your assurance that you didn't need help, he still held onto the ladder to support as you painted away, throwing casual glances to you and your immense focus. Sighing you sat down one of the steps as he did the same.
"How long have you been doing this?" He began to ask. He wasn't typically like this but the comfortable silence was hard to break when he's got a stockpile of questions so he lends your ears to you.
- Since that night, you two were more on the acquaintance level, letting Ran have fun on his own just spray painting whatever he wanted to do as you watched him.
"I see why you like to do this." He comments.
- Whenever you're sketching, he likes to brush your hair to be pinned behind your ear so it doesn't fall to your face, which he turned out to be the biggest distraction.
- "Say, what if I draw you instead?" He suggests, while you handed him your sketchpad as he flips a page and starts to draw. You didn't know what to do but just stay still as Ran smiles. A few minutes pass and he looks at his watch.
- "I've got to go but see you again, Y/N." He says before walking away, returning it to you as you opened the page he drew in only to see a mini version of himself with a thought bubble of every compliment he can possibly think of you with a tiny note at the bottom.
What about we go to a movie tomorrow? Message me when you're okay with it. Have a nice night, pretty. - Ran
You just smiled as you sent him the text saying how you were game for it.
- Of course the next day, the date lives on. Enjoying what was left in the moments you had but at the end of it, you're just inside your room paying no mind to the carefree conversations you make as Ran takes his time to just admire your old artworks until he's got a hold of your left over paint and began to bop it onto your nose thus leading to a chasing war while you were both covered in paint.
- Which was how he'd ask you out once again but four months from the first time he'd gone to your room, grabbing a tiny brush as you painted on his shoulder, mirroring his tattoo in a different color while he wrote a message to your forearm. You took a glance at it and suddenly butterflies began to errupt to you as Ran looked at you and asked,
"What do you say?"
Reaching for the same brush, you took it and wrote a yes to his chest, chuckling that he had to read it backwards in the mirror to figure out your answer. Once he does read it, he places a sweet kiss to your nose.
"Thanks for being mine, Y/N."
"You know that you just kissed the paint you put on me earlier, right?"
"And I could care less."

You had known Jake for more than half of your lives. Thanks to both of your rich ass parents setting you two up for a playdate at the age of 12, now you have found your rock and partner in crime. You know when he's feeling down, when he wants to cause trouble for no reason, when he has an eye for someone, heck, you know when and how to get him out of any situation when needed.
Like right now, as he gives you a side glance as he talks boringly to a group of men. All they talked about was business. Jake wanted to talk about that one burrito place down the block, he wants to get out of there and go get some. He wants to get out of this stupid high class party he has no part of.
He knows you do too, he knows by the way you keep glancing at the back door by the kitchen, and how you occasionally move to each group closer to the door. You know he catches up to the plan, how he also moves from group to group, excusing himself every 2 minutes.
You politely excuse yourself from the many unknown rich aunts who just questioned your love life, giving them a very passive smile, before turning to move to another group.
You don't get to go to another group, because you're already so close to the door, and Jake approaches you.
"Why, hello there, miss Y/n."
You feign shock at his greeting, holding a hand to your chest, "My, Jaeyun, wasn't it? It's been too long!"
Your best friend nods, playing along to the small skit you two have created, "About 2 hours, I think? You've grown very beautifully,"
You flick your hand at him, nudging his shoulder not-so-gently, "Oh stop."
You bite your lip to hold back a loud laugh when Jake winces at your harsh push at his shoulder, watching as his face twists in playful anger. You can't help but thin he looks absolutely adorable, nose scrunched up and eyes narrowed in a non meaningful glare, you ought to kiss his puffed cheeks.
You shake the last thought from your mind, bringing the elegant glass of champagne to your lips, sipping lightly at the sweet and slightly sour liquid. You then take a double check around the spacious room, to see if anyone is watching.
Your mother and father were chatting at the far corner with the parents of Jay, a guy you met earlier this evening. He looked just as bored as you. Jake's parents stood not too far from your parents, greeting anyone who approached them.
This was your chance.
Quickly, as Jake was mumbling something about you growing up strongly as well, you grab his arm. He yelps in surprise, as you drag him through the back door, lightly blushing at your gentle touch at his wrist.
The back door soon slams behind the both of you, and you are met with a large yard.
"Y/n! What if someone caught us?"
Giving Jake a side glare, you start to trudge down the flight of stairs to the garden, "You were too busy complaining about my guns to notice we had a chance to escape. You're welcome."
"You're weak!"
"Am not!"
"Are to!"
You ignore the upcoming argument you could've started, taking off your painful heels. They were absolutely stunning, but stung your feet constantly. Beauty is pain, as mother says.
"Lead the way to the burrito truck you claimed to see on the way here!"
Through the many bushes, and many guards, and even more bushes, you finally make it out the the big mansion, and into the dark streets. It's 10 in the night, you hope the burrito place is still open or your only choice left is a McDonalds about an hour away or convenience store food. Not that you minded, but you haven't had a burrito since you were 18. You had it right after graduation day with one of your closes friends who you have no idea of her whereabouts now.
The last time Jake had a burrito is about last week, the first time he met another rich kid named Sunghoon. Their parents gave them a bunch of money to go spend on expensive and top quality foods, but they both mutually agreed to get cheap burritos that would probably give them a bad stomach.
Jake takes the lead, as expected, for he was the one who spotted the food truck. He took off his blazer some time ago, you don't remember when, but with his jacket thrown over his elbow and sleeves rolled up like that, you can't help but admire.
You notice every single little thing about him, his slow, rhythmic paces, occasionally kicking stray rocks on the sidewalk. You watch as his hair slightly bounces as he kicks yet another rock, and you want to pet his hair.
There was that one time when you were 16 and you had a movie night as your parents went away for some business, he had his head on your lap, you didn't mind for some reason. At some point you had started playing lightly with a few strands of his hair, but you didn't notice. The moment you softly ran your hands through his hair, you realized, and decided to keep your hands to yourself after that. To your surprise he protested against it, claiming it was very comforting. So now every time one of you come over to the other's house, you would somehow find yourself playing with his hair, like pure human instinct.
But now as you observed your best friend more, you have a different feeling running through you as you had an urge to softly play with them once more, as if it wasn't as platonic anymore. But that was absurd. you've been friends for 10 years now, why are you just feeling like this now?
Your heart jumps in your chest when you are suddenly met with Jake's eyes, shining brightly with a slight mischievous gloss glazing over them. "Can we pick up the pace please? I'm getting pretty hungry and I know you are too."
Your heart softens as he sticks his arm out, gesturing you to come next to him. You jog barefoot to his side, instantly looping your arm with his.
It doesn't take long to find the food truck Jake mentioned, just a 10 minutes from the mansion, somewhere near the center of town. You had to drive about 2 hours to get here, and so did Jake, so it's a bit strange how he knew his way around the town so easily. You guess he just is that way.
You practically drool at the smell of savory foods that lingers in the air, sucking the saliva in your mouth.
Your best friend eyes you playfully, nudging your hip with his, "See? What did I tell you? Burrito food truck!"
You don't respond, simply grunting and dragging him to the cashier to order some food.
It takes a lot of time to decide on what burrito you'd buy, there were even tacos, and weirdly, cookies and croissants. It was your dream food truck, really. In the end, you both went for the classic burrito, nothing could beat it.
There were no seats to the food truck, sadly, so you and Jake opted to sit on the curb, legs sprawled out on the road, hopefully no cars drive by.
"You ready?" Your best friend asks you, looking at you with much anticipation. You stare at your own burrito in much more anticipation, it's been 4 years since you had a burrito. You wonder how you could survive that long.
You nod vivaciously, already opening your mouth to take a bite. Jake chuckles as he watches you take your first bite, your cheeks instantly puffing out full of the contents. You shut your eyes in bliss, licking your lips for anything left on them.
As you continue to chew, you shake your head, "Shit, I haven't had anything this good in sooo long." You exaggerate, taking yet another bite of the heavenly treat.
Jake can't agree more, he just had a burrito last week, but somehow eating one with you feels different. Especially when you don't mind him seeing and pointing out the smeared food around your mouth, simply trying to search for it with your tongue instead.
Your best friend wants to cherish this moment forever, keep it deep in his heart and laugh at it in the future when he suddenly gets reminded of it, he wants to brag about it to his friends, maybe even share it with his grandchildren, he doesn't know. All he knows is that you're it for him.
You're the one he's spent all of his teenage years with, his first heartbreak, first sleepover, first drink was with you, heck, you were his first close friend!
You know so much about him, you share so much about yourself to him, he's the one you trust. He's the first person you call out to when you're down, first person you call out to in the best of your times. It amazing how much you've been through together, and Jake thinks anything is possible, as long as it's you.
Falling in love seems so much easier than ever, especially at that moment, eating a burrito instead of the expensive caviar at the party before, just with him. And nobody else.
He wants to make you his. Not just his best friend, his lover, his soul mate, his whole world. Not that you weren't already.
"What's wrong?" you suddenly ask Jake, startling him. "You nudge your chin at the burrito in his hands, "Why aren't you eating?"
Jake flushes, realizing he's been staring at you the whole time, taking a big bite of his burrito, before looking away bashfully. "It's nothing."
You grow suspicious of his actions, watching as he swallows and bites his lip shyly. You choose to leave it there, instead bringing up your parents being out of town next week.
The conversation keeps going, from one topic to the other, swerving all over the place, but that's just how it is, talking to the person you're most comfortable with.
The conversation goes on and on until you find yourself walking along the streets blindly, fiddling with the paper packaging of the burrito you ate. You also find yourself wearing Jake's shoes instead of walking barefoot, he gave to you after you complained about walking over so many rocks, and you didn't like how your heart swarmed and beat dangerously fast as he claimed it would be better if you borrowed them for the night.
Strangely enough, his blazer he took off about and hour ago now stayed on your shoulders, keeping you warm from the cold breezes of the night. All your best friend's actions made you swoon over him, and that wasn't something you would feel often. Maybe occasionally, but not everyday.
Jake doesn't know what got into him when he took his shoes off for you, or when he draped his blazer on your shoulders, or why he took your heels and held it for you. What he does know, is that he enjoys the way your lips purse and a light shade of pink dusted over your cheeks. Or how you pull his blazer tighter around your body and sub-consciously loop your arm around his again.
You two never really got to go through the proper high school experience, your parents forced you to go to a strict school with strict rules, they didn't even have celebrations.
Jake always imagines what it would be like to go to a dance, prom, maybe? Full of fun, dancing, and definitely you. You had a similar vision. Chugging down punch or soda and dancing crazily together until you both get sick and throw up in the bathroom.
Prom was like a mutual yearning for the both of you.
God, how you would kill to have a normal high school experience.
"You know," Jake starts, "this feels like I'm walking you home after prom."
You can't stop the grin from reaching your lips, giving into it and letting out a soft laugh. Softly, you elbow his side, "Corny."
There are a few laughs here and there after that, but overall just comforting silence that goes throughout the night. The crickets that echo throughout the night are your only noises, and the few cars rushing by. You two come to a stop at a random bench by a streetlamp, settling there until you realize it's time to go back to the party.
You realize it, but you just don't want to let go of the moment.
You feel Jake hook his leg under yours, swinging them together in sync as you rest and stare into the night sky. Tonight isn't that much of a pretty night, no stars, barely a moon, but that's alright, you're enjoying the most of it.
You turn your head away from the boring black sky, instead facing the mot interesting thing you find in life. Jake is staring down at your swinging legs, smiling at the sight. He fiddles softly with your fingers, caressing and tracing them as if they were one of the most precious things in the world.
Your eyes trail from your tangled legs, to your tangled hands, all the way up to Jake's face, tracing each and every detail with your gaze. You don't remember when he matured, you only remember the fluffy cheeked bowl cut Jake when you two were still middle schoolers. Now all that cheek has become more defined, especially his jaw, you can't help but admire him. He was like a piece of art. Your favorite piece of art.
For the second time that night, you focus on his hair, and ought to run your hands through them once again. To pull him into your embrace as he rests on you, to simply relax and twirl his strands around your fingers.
It seems like whenever you're staring at his hair, Jake just startles you with his eyes, still glossy, but this time they hold something different.
They admire you just as much as yours admire him.
Slowly, as if an unspoken agreement, you lean in closer to his face. His breath close to your cheek sets goosebumps trailing your body, and his touch now on your neck warms you inside.
Your eyes flit between his eyes and lips, oh those plump, soft lips you dream of. You would never admit it, but you have had many urges to crash your own upon them.
And that's exactly what you do. Though, crash isn't the right word to describe it. They press together softly more than recklessly, pulling into a soft lock, something much more than just platonic love being poured into it. Pure bliss and love are being poured like gentle and calm rivers, the ones you find clear and beautiful in parks. It runs faster as Jake tilts your head to kiss you closer, lips wrapped up in the warmth of yours. It feels like home to him.
Jake is absolutely perfect, you decide, despite all the many nights spent together breaking down, left for each other to pick the other up, it makes him perfect.
He thinks you're the most flawless thing he's ever seen, despite all the gems and crystals he sees in most parties, you're the brightest one shining, he could never find any jewel more valuable than you.
You pull away with one last soft lock of your lips, but stay close and ghost them together. You find his eyes the shining the most you have ever seen in the 10 years you have spent with him, one different emotion fluttering behind them. Love.
You surely don't feel that big of a person when you're at these big rich parties, even if everyone knew of your name. But kissing your best friend and being the one he sees, he loves, being his, you feel like you could rule the world.
You know you're his after this. How could you not? The way he breaks out into a very bashful smile when you leave one last peck on his lips, the way he holds you so close. There was no way he couldn't be yours after this.
A week later you have a very sleepy boyfriend on your couch, his head resting on your lap as you play softly with his hair. Nothing is all that different, except for all the kisses he steals when reaching up to you. And of course, the corny lines being thrown at each other as a competition to see who can come up with the cheesiest, most disgusting pick up line ever.
"I want to wrap you in my arms and make you my baerito."
"Ugh Jake that was just straight but bad! Not even funny or cheesy!"
Jake simply laughs, and wraps his arms around you just as he claimed to have wanted to, mumbling how he agreed into your forehead.
Being in his arms, you feel like you could fight everything that would try to hurt your lover, but for now you stick to the playful pokes he gives to your stomach and sides.

To Be Forgotten Amongst Friends chp1
Omega! Reader x avengers
Hello all! I revamped my story "ikaros" and this is the new story! Also the name is long rip.
Trigger warnings (later chapters mostly)- ptsd, noncon, kidnapping, human experimentation, Stockholm and lima syndrome
The following chapters will be posted on- https://archiveofourown.org/works/33890977     (seriously- may not post here that often cause i hate the tagging system- go check out ao3)
It's a beautiful day in New York and you're a terrible, no good, thief.
You were considered New York’s very own Robin Hood. Two hundred ATM robberies in two years, the money flying out of the machines and into the hands of people who needed it. The banks, collectively, had lost over $300,000 from the ATMs alone. But of course, it wasn't just the ATMs. A rash of robberies had spread over the East coast. Most were digital, companies funneling their own money to offshore accounts that wanted nothing to do with U.S. intervention. The FBI were notified, then the CIA, and eventually- after a daring cyber attack against the DOD- SHIELD itself turned it's one eyed gaze onto you.
Nick Fury saw something the other agencies didn't. You had certain gifts that made your line of work incredibly easy. Whether they were natural mutations or some sort of superpower, they allowed you to break into some of the most secure networks known to man. He had almost found you when SHIELD fell and his resources vanished. After the dust cleared he was forced to start from scratch. Hunting you and the remnants of Hydra down at the same time wasn't easy, but, in a strange twist of fate, he found someone else that was searching for you too.
+++
New York was filled with so many people. Most of them were good, in your opinion. (Well, maybe half, actually.) You spent most of your off time working on "projects" or walking around the city. You had become a fixture at the local Bodega. Single omegas were extremely  rare, marked single omegas were almost unheard of. The mark gave you certain freedoms other omegas, sadly, didn't have. It drove away most potential suitors and the ones who were particularly bold would be given a taste of your powers. Once the burrow had gotten used to your presence they saw you as a generous person, but a secretive one. Someone who took no shit even with their designation. You gave to the community and different Omega rights groups in the area. After years of watching you quietly go about helping people you had been welcomed into the burrow's heart with open arms.
You loved helping people in your own way. You loved it just as much as you hated corporations and the police, but when you could make an ATM spew it's contents out into the poorest streets of Brooklyn or make Fox News send a million dollars to Planned Parenthood, you could have the best of both worlds.
At least, for a time. All good things had to end, right? That's what you told yourself as the redhead picked her way through the crowd towards you.
Seeing an avenger in your neighborhood was an odd occurrence. It was a poorer part of town, untouched in the battle of New York, and too out of the way for any super villain origin stories. In fact, you seemed to be the only mutant in the entire block. You'd always thought, if someone was going to come for you, it would be a couple of FBI agents and not the fucking Black Widow. Your brain and heart went into overdrive as you tried to remember doing anything worth the avenger's time. But there was nothing. The DOD hack had been almost a year ago and all you did was release government files showing attacks on civilians overseas. It hardly seemed like an avengers worthy crime, especially when Black Widow herself had leaked government secrets before.
Any hope of her not not looking for you was dashed when her eyes locked onto yours. She tilted her head, asking a silent question.
The burst of adrenaline sent you careening through the lunchtime crowds. You couldn't feel anyone on the rooftops but there was a large form blocking your path, trying to box you in. They were stronger and faster but you knew the environment. You ducked into Charlie's, your sneakers skidding on the asphalt as you took the sharp turn. The person behind the counter lazily looked up as you walked to the back. They knew you well enough to not care, they also weren't paid enough to care. The alley would open up into a busy side street. More people meant a better chance to blend in and get away. You were almost to the end when the door opened behind you. Black Widow and fucking Captain America stepped into the alley. For a moment the three of you stood in something akin to a standoff.
You felt wildly undressed for this life-threatening situation.
"We just want to talk, (Y/N)" Captain America told you, hands raised. The unmistakable stink of an alpha radiated from the captain. You were momentarily thankful for your mark dulling its effect on you. Though, the blonde's scent was tinged with something hauntingly familiar. Something you didn't want to recognize.
Behind him, Black widow's free hand went to her ear. "Target is in the alley between 31st and 32nd," A twitch of your finger and the line went dead. Her hand dropped to the gun at her hip.
"I'm feeling pretty under equipped for this 'conversation'," You replied, slowly raising your hands as well, wondering if they could feel what you were doing. They didn't react and you slowly let your power seep from you.
Natasha was the first to react, drawing her gun and spinning around. Steve looked at her with confusion as her wide eyes scanned the alley as if she was seeing ghosts. She was afraid he realized, a cold feeling settling in his stomach. He moved towards her and you took off running. You felt him hesitate then take off after you, gaining on you with an embarrassingly low number of strides. You tried your powers again, stronger this time, but his focus was unwavering. He was almost to you now and you were running out of options. That’s when the alpha in him came out.
“Omega!” He snarled, “Stop!” Your feet slowed down immediately. It wasn’t as strong as your own alpha’s command would be, but the super soldier certainly commanded respect and obedience. You were forced to stand still, eyes burning holes in the asphalt, as the alpha’s footsteps grew closer. You really didn't want to do this but it looked like you had no choice. Your jaw clenched, and you spun around when his hand grabbed your arm. The blonde's eyes widened as you placed a palm to his chest.
He barely had time to glance down at your hand before the electricity hit him.
The 1,000 volts you sent into him were supposed to stun him or send him flying, allowing you to escape. However, his muscles spasmed just a bit stronger than you intended. In an instant his grip crushed the bones in your arm and sent the two of you careening backwards into a brick wall. Natasha would find you a moment later, passed out on top of the super soldier, a sizable hole in the wall.
You woke up in an unfamiliar bed, a few blurry white shapes milled about in the corners of your vision. You couldn't remember how you got here, or where here was. All your senses seemed to be dulled. Your wrist was throbbing and each time you opened your eyes the room came in and out of focus. You closed your eyes, opting to ignore the funhouse effect and focus on the sounds around you. The beeping of the monitors, footsteps on concrete, and two low voices.
"She's alright, Buck, I promise." Steve's voice wavered in and out of your consciousness bringing with it the memory of how you got into this bed. "She did something to Nat and ran before I could explain. I wasn't expecting her powers to be so strong."
"I should have come with you," Another voice snarled. Your heart skipped a beat at the low growl. You knew that voice. It evoked a sickening combination of need and terror and you couldn't remember why. "She wouldn't have gotten hurt if I had. What idiot doesn't know omegas are fragile?!"
"It was an accident!" His voice raised slightly before sighing. "I know you're worried, but she's fine."
The scent you had smelled on Steve earlier swirled around the room. Metal and burning pine, it affected you just like the voice had, triggering both panic and yearning. You knew it somehow. The memory was there somewhere, tucked away where it couldn’t hurt you. Where it should have been forgotten.
The scent grew unbearably strong as he leaned over you, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. When he pulled back he wasn't expecting his eyes to catch yours.
His expression softened as soon as he realized you were awake. "Omega," Bucky whispered reverently. Stormy blue eyes stared down at you with love and adoration, watching the color drain from your face. "Doll?"
Somewhere in the back of your mind you could hear the panicked beeping of the machines and Steve trying to calm you down. But it didn't matter. All that you could feel was the need to get far, far, away from this man. You didn't know how you knew him but you knew he was dangerous. You knew he had hurt you. That's why, as he reached out to gently cup your face, you slapped his hand away.
"Get away from me!" You gasped, voice breaking. You scooted back and tried to back up as far as possible. Your shaky legs barely held your weight as you slid off the bed. Pure terror coursed through your veins, it was the only thing keeping you on your feet. You found yourself pressed into the corner of the room while the men stared at you in shock. Steve and Bucky gaped like you had just told them the Germans had actually won WWII. Eyebrows knit together, blue eyes wide and frantic, Bucky looked like he was in emotional turmoil.
“(Y/N), doll, it’s okay. It’s me. It’s your alpha.” Bucky reached out to you carefully as a low purr rumbled from his chest.
You felt the purr relax you and dull your senses even more. It was nauseating. “I don’t have an alpha! And I don’t know who the hell you are!” You tried to shout and grit your teeth but the words came out in broken sobs, betraying your weakness. Who was this? Why was he the most terrifying thing you had ever seen?
Your teeth were bared at this point but the man kept coming towards you. The tunnel vision and rapid shallow breaths were the only warnings your body gave you as it reverted to its animalistic omega framework. Bucky watched as, in slow motion, your eyes went blank as your body gave out.
+++
Your alpha held your body to his chest in disbelief. He had expected some shock at seeing him but this went far beyond his expectations. It had been over three years since he'd last seen you. Since he'd last been able to drink in your scent. He'd figured you might not recognize him at first. He had changed a lot over the years. No longer under Hydra's control his physical appearance, demeanor, and scent had changed. But your body should've known your alpha.
"What was that?" Steve asked. "Why did she react like that when she has your mark?" The two alphas were on edge. Seeing a vulnerable omega drop triggered their protective instincts. Steve desperately wanted to take you and hold you close, ease you out of the drop. If the alpha holding you was anyone other than his closest friend and packmate he would have ripped you out of his grasp immediately. For now he'd have to hold himself back.
"She didn't remember me." Bucky nuzzled his head into your neck, nursing your mark softly. After a moment he pulled back and gazed at your unchanged features. He couldn't wake you from this drop that easily. He pressed in harder this time, teeth lining up with the scar perfectly, but there was still no change. No purr, command, or bite was waking you up.
"We should let her rest, Buck. The pain meds will wear off soon and we'll try again. . . Bring her to the den. She'll need to get used to everyone's scents sooner or later." Steve laid a hand on his friend's shoulder. It was a gentle but firm suggestion. He knew tensions were high, the den, with it's heavy curtains and plush blankets, would calm down his friend and the omega. With little argument the brunette lifted you up and carried you to the den. It was aptly named and extremely well constructed thanks to Stark. Curtains blocked off all light from the windows, mattresses were inlaid into the ground, and the temperature was always cool. It was one good thing about being in a pack with that narcissist, Bucky thought dryly.
Steve led them into a cozy corner of the room. The captain hummed happily as they moved the pillows and blankets, creating a makeshift nest for the three of them. The feeling of the omega pressing into his chest was addictive. He couldn't wait for you to remember your alpha.
The sooner you remembered your bond with Bucky the sooner the rest of the pack, Steve included, could court you.

sooo I wasn’t sure to take this as you wanted an affluent girl or you wanted someone a bit more middle class/poor in the same boat as him, but, I tried to make it sooooorta ambiguous??
but anyways I ADORE soulmate AUs so this is totally fine!! I think I’ve really only written a handful of things for various types of soulmate AUs before, and only like maybe one or two on this blog, but I really love them so I had fun!
I hope it’s good tho~
also I will genuinely cry over Lavender Blue, it’s my favorite lullaby <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your world has been passing you by in various shades of grey for too long, and you’re starting to think you’re doomed to never find the one you’re supposed to find.
It’s something everyone in the world knows, that you don’t see any kind of color at all until you look into your soulmate’s eyes for the first time. You’ve heard horror stories about people who die without ever seeing a single hue, and that terrifies you more than anything.
Even now you go about your life in a sea of black and white, desperately searching for any sign that you might be close. Every day looks the same, and every person is made of the same dull lack of color.
Some of your friends try in vain to describe it to you ― what it’s like to have the world painted in real colors. Without having seen it for yourself, you know you can’t possibly understand. What does red look like, you wonder? Blue? Green? Yellow? Are there subtleties you can’t even imagine?
Your thoughts wrap you up in anxiety as you make your way down the street. You’ve been so lost in them, you scarcely realize that you’ve made your way to a section of town you’ve never been to before… until you hear a velvety voice cutting through the rest of the surrounding noise.
“Tom, he was a piper’s son he learnt to play when he was young and all the tune that he could play was ‘over the hills and far away’ over the hills and a great way off the wind shall blow my top-knot off Tom with his pipe made such a noise that he pleased both the girls and boys they all stopped to hear him play ‘over the hills and far away’…”
It’s a kind of voice you’ve never heard before; not overly deep, but rich and charming. It draws your attention immediately, and you turn your head to find the source. Almost certainly it’s a street performer, so you’d like to give him something for his effort.
There he is, on a street corner that’s fairly close to where you are right now, among a small group. They all look so beat up, down on their luck, though the singer has a smile on his face.
Just as you step toward the group, the singer turns to look at you, catching your eyes with his, and suddenly your world changes in an instant. It’s like everything blossoms from the inside out, into more shades than you’ve ever seen. The sky is entirely different from the buildings, the carousel of people’s clothing is distinct against the cobblestone below their feet, and it’s an overload.
There’s so much new information for you to process, out of nowhere, and you find yourself staring at the singer more than anywhere else. That hair, long enough to spill over his shoulders, it’s a color you can only guess at the name of. It’s muted, and bright simply for the fact that it’s brand new.
God, you love it.
Everything else about him seems so much more stunning now too. The angles of his face stand out, the sharpness of his eyes contrasting with the kindness shining within them. It’s as if he was carved from stone just to be here in this moment with you.
As soon as the two of you lock eyes, his song catches in his throat, choked off. That makes it unmistakable; it’s not a coincidence and it’s not someone else. He’s seeing it too, the bursting to life of his vision, the vibrant colors that have bloomed into being.
That look! It’s as if you’re the first sunrise he’s ever seen.
… Well. Maybe, in a way, you are. And he’s yours.
He’s… breathtaking.
You get closer, and you happen to notice the strange way his thin coat is hanging off his frame. Once you’re right up close to him, it becomes clear why. He’s missing an arm, leaving that coat sleeve to simply dangle in the wind.
Without a word, he notices your gaze, and his face colors. Oh, God. That’s what all the books mean when they say someone is blushing…? A small step back.
Like he’s giving you a chance to bow out. A chance to run from fate. To pretend this never happened. To not choose him.
Instead, you slowly pull £2 from your pocket, offering it in his direction.
He looks at the money as if he’s terrified of it. Just like you, he’s never seen the hues of the banknotes before… though, you wonder if he’s ever seen a banknote close like this at all. His look of wonder suggests not.
He appears to recover quickly, however. He clears his throat before offering you a shaky smile. “Well! My apologies. I didn’t knoo ye had a request. What d’ye wanna hear, darlin’?”
Of course he won’t just accept it, even though you were going to give it anyway. He almost seems bashful at the idea of you, the one he’s meant to be with, handing him money in your first interaction.
You nod at him, encouraging him to follow your lead.
“Lavender blue, dilly dilly lavender green when you are king, dilly dilly I shall be queen.”
His eyes sparkle at you, playful but curious, with something underneath that hints he almost doesn’t believe this is happening. Still, when you gently drop the pound notes into the banged-up at near his feet, he reaches out his hand to you.
You take his hand, and you don’t think you could have dreamed of a better way to have met him.
“Who told you so, dilly dilly? Who told you so? ‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly that told me so.”

Ok but like what if hawks got his sweet little intern pregnant on accident? Would he make her abort it? Would he make her keep it and try to wife her up? Or is he just gonna play it off like “oh? Y/n’s pregnant? Huh, wonder who the father is” and ditch her?
original post | part three
I mean my gut tells me he’d take responsibility at least to some degree. He loves freedom too much to try to get married I feel; but given his history, I think he’d at least take responsibility in making sure you two are taken care of financially. He’d come have play dates with his kid and make sure no villains bother you (probably not watch the kid overnight much tbh).
BUT THEN, BUT THEN, THE OTHER PART OF ME CAN’T GET JERK HAWKS OUT OF MY HEAD ABOUT ABANDONING HIS SWEET LITTLE INTERN AND BABY.
You’ll tell him that you’re pregnant with his child (you’re sure since he’s the only one you’ve been sleeping with, the first and only one to ever been inside you, even if it wasn’t all that serious (at least from his end)). He’ll tell you that you can do whatever you want with the kid in terms of keeping it, refusing to believe the child is his, or rather he doesn’t care if it’s his or not. He doesn’t have time for a child, he craves keeping independence as much as possible.
If anyone asks, he’ll say those words, “Oh, (Name)’s pregnant? Huh, wonder who the father is,” and you’ll finally get the hint that he doesn’t want anything to do with you after hoping he’d change his mind. He knows you won’t tell anyone though. You wouldn’t dare try to slander Japan’s number 2 hero when the world is at a place it needs him the most. His sweet little bird wouldn't want to get him in trouble, now would you? So, you’ll keep your mouth shut and quietly disappear for him, right?
Hawks goes years without worrying about it. He doesn’t think much about his old intern. He hired a new one who’s doing well, a boy this time. What kind of hero would he be if he made the same mistake twice.
Speaking of Twice, let’s say around this time he’s investigating the league of villains. Dabi already knows all about who he is, about his spying, about this sweet little girl he has a few towns over. One he abandoned, no different from the awful father known as Endeavor that Hawks idolized growing up. How when he finished killing Hawks, he was going to go for her next and tell her all about the demise of her supposed hero of a father.
Or,
Endeavor telling Hawks that he saw Hawks’ old intern a few weeks back and that she had a child, clearly hinting at something. Hawks laughs it off of course. “Isn’t that what usually happens when someone gets pregnant? It’d be stranger if she didn’t have one.”
Endeavor adds, “Judging by the kid’s age she probably had the child pretty young. Young girls tend to idolize their heroes.”
Hawks also agrees. “Yeah. They sure do, don’t they?”
Endeavor grunting, Hawks should have a relationship with his child before it’s too late, and they start to hate him (next thing Hawks knows, they’ll be slurping soba at him in disdain).
Hawks sighs. "Your age must be catching up with you because I have no idea what you're talking about."
Hawks thinks Endeavor is the last person to scold him about that. All he did is abandon the kid, it’s not like he did something abusive. At worst, it’s neglect. The kid was probably fine. Plenty of kids turn out fine without their father. Hawks thinks he probably would’ve been better off without his own abusive father, and besides you were probably married by now.
After that conversation/almost dying, Hawks can’t help but wonder if only briefly how the two of you are doing. He’ll inwardly scold himself for letting a villain and a man with a family worthy of a television drama make him question himself. He valued himself, his freedoms, his joy, and creating an easygoing life much more than anything else to worry about something like that.
Eventually, Hawks decides to put his spy skills to use in finding you if only to satiate the nagging feeling inside of him telling him to at least see how things are going with you—you know just to make sure you’re not homeless or something.
Turns out, you didn’t move that far away, only a little bit out the main part of the city. Hawks sees you at the park with your daughter and knows right away that she’s his alright. She has a cute little pair of golden-brown gossamer wings coming in. They flutter behind her as she runs around the playground.
He’s so distracted that he barely missed you catching him from the corner of your eye. He’d blame his large wings for making him stick out like a sore thumb, but he knows you’ve always been good at picking him out no matter where he hid.
You hold your lips tight, eyes narrowed. Oh, you’re mad, so mad, but he doesn’t think that you could resist him enough to tell him off. You always had such a cute crush on him back when you were his intern.
Hawks lets out a casual “Hi, (Name), how’s it going?”
You didn't answer, staring at him in silence. It's broken by your little girl running up to you, grasping onto your hand. And oh her little flappy wings are so much more precious up close. He takes this time to note that you aren’t wearing any ring as your daughter begs for you to swing her.
She finally notices him. “Mama, who’s this?” she asks, and the soft pitches of her voice are so musical to his sensitive ears.
"I'm," he starts then he loses his voice as she looks at him. She looks so strikingly like him. Hawks can see all of himself there: the wings, the wavy, wild hair, those little dark triangles in the corners of her eyes, giving a sharp bird-like appearance to them.
Then, he is brought back to reality by you speaking, so much colder than he's ever heard from you in his life, “No one, absolutely no one.”
He's stunned for a few seconds before his lips curve into a lazy smile.
“Ouch, that’s kind of hurtful,” he says. He had said it jokingly, staying well hidden behind that jovial mask of his as you squeezed your daughter’s hand tighter. He even had himself fooled into thinking that what you said hadn’t bothered him because he never had any intention other than sating his curiosity.
Yet he couldn’t deny the tug in his heart when you walk away from him and he sees the miniature version of himself looking back.

Sealing the Deal part 2
Summary:  Dick has a perfectly reasonable idea.
a/n: There will probably be more parts to this since you people gave me so many ideas but for now here is some soft smut. Did I finish this just in time for the end of mermay? Yes.
warning: Attempt at soft smut
Main Masterlist
Part 1
"Let's get married."
It takes around a minute for you to even register the fact that Dick had even said anything at all and another to parse out the meaning behind his words. You look up from the piece you've been slaving over for hours while Dick dozed on your lap.
"Let's get married." He repeats earnestly.
You narrow your eyes at him. You... clearly missed at least 2 diatribes and 40% of this conversation. "Uh Dickie, my love, did I miss the part where you divorced me or did I sleep through it like I did when Wally was preaching about raw fish?" You set your tools down and pull his pelt more tightly around you, feeling oddly protective of it.
Seeing you wrapped up in his pelt never failed to make Dick's chest flutter; unfortunately, he had to focus on the matter at hand. "As I was saying, we're married but not in the human way. "
"Ah- Yeah, I see that but.. that seems entirely unnecessary."
"There's no harm in it." Dick says, looking at you with big hopeful eyes. No matter whether it’s his liquid seal eyes or his bright baby blues, you’re still a sucker.
He is definitely up to something. Dick always uses that look when he really wants something and you can already feel yourself falling for it. Who thought giving this man the cutest face in the world was a good idea? Who?! You sigh. Spousal homicide is a bad idea, you tell yourself.
"You're so lucky you're terribly cute," you huff, "you're also lucky that there's a ferry coming tomorrow."
You mentally calculate how much time the whole trip would take but you know all that arithmetic is useless when you hazard a look at your husband.  Dick beams, dimples appear at the corners of his mouth, and makes the happiest little noises.
You lean over the railing, watching the sea and feeling the wind comb through your hair. A pair of arms wraps around you making you squeak.
Dick buries his face in your hair and he sweeps you into his arms. "How's the most beautiful creature in the world?"
"Dunno Dick, how are you?" You smile.
Dick sniffles. "You're not allowed to be this cute."
"Hypocrite." You laugh wrapping your arms around him.
He nudges his face against yours.
"Are you liking your first boat ride?"
"I could still swim faster." Dick hums.
You roll your eyes. "Sadly for us, I can't."
"It's ok," he says, brushing his lips against the shell of your ear," it just means you can't escape me on this boat."
 "Pfffft!"
"You're saying that now but look who I have in my hold." He chuckles, lips brushing against your neck.
"We're in public you dork!" You squeal.
 "And?"
You sigh."You just like embarrassing me."
"Yup. Just ask Jaso- What's that?!" Dick says pointing to a statue on the shore. It was tall and proud with hair cascading down like a waterfall with a visage as hard as the rock it's carved on. You narrow your eyes trying to recall what the local told your father when you were younger.
"Oh, it's... It's a sea goddess I believe or maybe a selkie." You shrug at Dick who looks at it in awe. You supposed this is the first time he's seen a statue that big.
"I thought you said the people on the mainland didn't believe in selkies?"
"Er... ok, so there are mainlanders who are more inland where I come from and there's people near the sea. No, there are more divisions than that but- Ok, so the place where I came from the sea wasn't as important but here it is so they probably have more folk tales."
"I guess that makes sense," Dick says burying his face in your hair. "Did you have any folk tales?"
"Some but it was mostly cautionary about maidens being stolen away."
"Guess you didn't listen to them, huh?" he says, "did they say anything about stealing hearts?" Dick winks one of those winks that only he could make cute.
You huff into your scarf.  "More about eating them, I think."
"I can do that if you want." He smirks cheekily.
You pat his cheek, trying to be as irritatingly condescending as possible.  "You're still not scary."
Dick takes your hand in his and brings it closer to his lips. He pretends to bite at your fingers, his sharp canines dragging along the skin and nipping at the joints.  "It’s because I love you so much."
Dick alternates between gawking at perfectly common sights like large cargo ships and flocks of sheep on the cliff and teasing the life out of you for the rest of the ferry ride.
You are the tiniest bit mortified that several passengers have seen your husband drag his teeth over your skin and toss you in the air for the fun of it. Dick was horrible at keeping a low profile. Not that acting reserved would have mattered anyway given how everyone's eyes were always drawn to him.
You can't blame them, his laughter is infectious and his smile was enough to make the gloomy morning look like a bright summer afternoon.  You really really don't blame them for gawking but you just wish they wouldn't.
Not even fifteen minutes onshore and you're reminded why you only ever went into town with your father. Being meek by nature, you're often the target for unruly sailors. It never got too bad, not enough for you to call the cops at least. You would be lying if you wish it wasn't such a common occurrence to have some random guy shove his hand down your back pocket and squeezes your ass.
You jump, nearly dropping the little map of shops your father had drawn for you a while ago. A man passes behind you snickering quietly and yeah, knocking his teeth in would be amazing.
"Hey buddy, do you mind apologizing?" Dick asks, his voice dangerously pleasant.
There's a gnawing sense of foreboding forming in your stomach. It squirms in your gut until you grab Dick's sleeve. "Dick," you hiss, "it's not worth it."
You'd looked at the man and sadly, it really wasn't worth getting Dick's face punched in on his first visit to the mainland. You don't think anything worth getting Dick hurt.
The men turn back to your and the dread in your stomach solidifies. Even your dad was never dumb enough to piss off sailors especially ones built like I train would be dented when hitting them.
"I don't see the problem, pretty boy," the man spits like he'd said the word fungus, "The lass doesn't have a problem with it, do you?" He leers at you. It makes your skin crawl.  He steps closer, invading your space, and places a hand on your shoulder. "This lassy here and I go waaaay back." He says, sliding his hand down your arm. You have absolutely no doubt that this man is sloshed because you have never seen him before in your life. You are pretty plain, so that makes sense but yeah, this is the first time you've seen his mug.
"A lass like you shouldn't be dressing like that if you know what's good for you."You open your mouth to protest but only manage to tighten your grip on Dick's sleeve.
There's a split second between Dick flickering his eyes to you and the satisfying sound of a fist making contact with a jaw. The man falls to the ground narrowly avoiding smashing his head into the cobblestones.
"Get up and apologize to her." Dick growls, teeth bared.  He pushes forward. You're about as stunned as the man on the ground. Dick's poised for a fight and you have no doubt he'll have no problem getting into a row. You need to stop Dick from doing anything stupid. You wrap your arms around his waist, squeezing your eyes shut.  You bury your face into his coat.  You want to tell him that it's fine, that you're used to things like this, that you don't want him to get hurt. This whole thing isn't worth him getting hurt. You're not worth him getting hurt.  But the only thing you can manage is a weak "It's not worth it."
Dick squeezes your hand. You're trembling and Dick feels awful for scaring you but he doesn't stop glaring at the man. He guesses he's made his point loud and clear. He softens a fraction, maneuvering you to his side and wrapping an arm around you. There's still a snarl caught in the back of his throat but contrary to popular belief, Dick isn't hot-headed enough to ignore you. All he wants to do now is get you to safety.
You squeeze him with your arms, your face still scrunched as if bracing for impact. "Let's go shopping for those rings, yeah?"
Dick sighs with an indulgent smile. "Ok, honey."  He kisses the crown of your head. "I love you, I’m sorry."
"Don’t be sorry," you say, snuggling tighter into him. "You know I only want you and--” That wasn’t even the point. You are really bad at this. “--and you really should be more careful. What if you got hurt?"
"Did you miss that killer right hook? He sure didn't."
A small smile shapes your lips. "Moron."
"Still love me though." He says, bringing your knuckle to his lips.
You shake your head. "It's unfortunate really."
"You know the more time I spend here the less I believe the fact that you didn't know what selkies were," Dick says holding up another seal necklace.
You look at him, wince at the bruise blooming on his knuckle but continue. "My dad and I went into town twice a year and they were only ever day trips." You say, setting down a cheap shot glass with a blubbering seal. It wasn't strictly a lie. It was more of a guesstimate. You look away from him and mumble a "I thought they were called Setties."
Dick snorts loudly and you have a heart attack thinking he reverted back to his seal form. "Setties?" He snorts again and you think he's gonna suck in all the dust from the store.
"Yes, Setties." You repeat grumpily, "I was 7. Cut me some slack!"
"When have I ever cut you some slack?"
 "Never."
 "Mhm, exactly."
"Why do I love you again?"
"Because I'm the cutest person, you know?"
"I dunno, Dickie." You drawl, picking up a couple of little seal stuffed toys. They were cute with their round faces and distended bodies. Their black eyes didn't quite do justice to your favorite trouble maker but they're close enough in huggableness."These little guys could give you a run for your money."
Dick makes an affronted squawk. You hold them to Dick's face for inspection and ask: "Should we buy the black one or the white one?" Truly, a matter of life and death.
Dick scrunches his face in thought. "The black one obviously."
"But the white one looks cute too." You whine.
Dick gives you a grumpy pout. You ignore him.  "Why don’t we get both?"
 Dick crosses his arms. "Why-"
"Yanno... A pair like us..." You say, pulling them closer to your chest and looking up at him hopefully.
Dick looks at you wearily. "How could I argue against such a solid argument?"  Dick says, tousling your already windswept locks.
"What do you think I’d look like as a seal?" You ask absently as you exit the store. You'd managed to drive the price down with a little haggling and a bit of distraction from Dick.
 "Beautiful."
You grin at him.  "Again buttering me up won't make me buy you more sweets."
"I can think of other things to eat." Dick says, his pink tongue darting over his lips as he looks at you.
You swallow, mouth feeling dry. Dick is horrible to you today.
The old antique shop was dustier than you remembered. Part of you suspects that the particles sprinkled on all the shelves is in fact just the old owner's cremated remains but you don't really wanna find out if it's true.
You comb through the shelves, feeling like a pirate in search of treasure. The expensive rings with their big rind stones were stowed away on a shelf behind the shopkeeper but everyone one knows that if you want the good stuff you have to search for it yourself.
Dick seems to be happy looking through all the strange knickknacks, so you carry on.
You nearly squeal with glee when you find a ring. It was a band of silver carved into the shape of a seal curling in on itself as it slumbers. You smile holding it close to your chest.  "Give me your finger."
"That... is a very strange way to put it."
"Just give me your hand." You say holding out your own.  Dick, still incredulous, puts his hand in yours. You bite back a smile as you put the ring on his ring finger. Your lips stretch even as you dig your teeth in. It was a good fit. You're embarrassed to say you were bouncing on your heel with excitement. The silver looks lovely against his tanned skin.
Dick inspects it.  "And you said subtlety wasn't my element."
"It really isn't," you say, smiling down at his hand. "But I never did say it was mine either." You could easily find another ring if he doesn't like it but you're quietly hoping he does. You try not to watch his face, not read too deeply into his expressions.
"I like it. Let's try to find a matching one."
Much to your amusement, you did find something but it's.... You snort as you put it on.
"It kind of matches." Dick says wearily.
 "It's a fish." You laugh.
"Um... it's a pretty silver fish."
 "Absolutely ravishing, huh?"
"Exactly like my wife." Dick says, nipping at your ear.
Your ear burns and you cover it hastily.
"Let's just go pay for them." You say, shoving at him lightly.
"So you do like it?" He asks, peaking through your fingers.
"Yes, you dork. Now, stop being cute." You say, shoving him again.
 "Never." He chuckles.
"Is this the statue from the harbor?" Dick asks, poking at the little replica on the shopkeep's counter.
"Aye lad, the natives worshiped the sea before we came along. Kooky fellows but they knew a thing or two about the sea. They even talked about the selkie. Those blood-thirsty women folk of the sea. "
Dick scrunches his nose. You press the heel of your palm to your lips holding back a laugh.
"Well, I’ve heard some different of stories." Dick says, leaning into the counter, his eyes shining mischievously.
The old shopkeep leans in, looking around. "Like what?"
Dick leans in a bit more, his voice hushed and conspiratorial.  "I hear they try to trap fair maidens into marriage to bear children for them."
Dick winks unabashedly. You flush. "What?!"
"C'mon lad," the shopkeeper snorted like a walrus, "we all know that all selkies are women folk."
"That’s the thing," Dick says, resting his hands on his intertwined fingers. He grins. "I’ve been out at sea a while, my whole family has aaaaand," he drawls in his other voice. The shopkeep looks entranced.  "We've heard of different tales."
 "Do tell."
"My family have heard tales of male selkies, those who seek women to carry on the selkie way." Dick pushes off the counter, spinning around on his heel theatrically. "We heard of old lore when they used to kidnap unsuspecting women by the sea shore." You vaguely recall this version but it seemed like ages ago.  "But now," he says, stepping closer to you. "Now, they are much more persuasive." Dick winks at you and you resist the urge to elbow him.
"I also heard they're quite persistent." You say, leaning against him.
"Quite." Dick says a little too fondly.
"Hnnn, never heard that one." The shopkeep says tilting his head. "Do you have anymore?"
"Oh, I have a ton of seafaring stories if you'd like. I’ve heard stories about the Cthulhu."
 "Cthulhu?"
"The great horror of the deep."
"The only horror here is the lack of treasure chests." The shopkeep huffs. You would be inclined to agree if Tim and Damian weren't so good at finding them.
"Oh this is no tall-tale my friend," Dick says, wrapping an arm around the man's shoulders, "we heard that he awakes once every 10 years to roam the deep seas. Why do you think boats go missing with no trace?"
 Monsoons, you think.
 "Like that submarine last summer!"
 Dick nods sagely "Exactly."
You want to slap your palm against your forehead. There is no way he can believe that hokey, right? ... You are literally married to a selkie. Do you really have any room for skepticism? You sigh. You suppose not.
"The sea is a mysterious maiden just like those sires. A tricky bunch, slippery and smart not like mermaids."
"Have you ever heard one?!" The shopkeep nearly folds over the counter.
"Once when I’d been at sea for 4 months, I heard the most beautiful song in my life, kind of like a mirage but it was a misty night at sea."
 The shopkeeper gasps.
You blink. This is news to you.
"Luckily, my father pulled me from the towboat before I set off towards it."  You try to imagine it and somehow it's funnier than the idea of Dick being bloodthirsty.
Dick regails Bruce's spat with a sea witch and Alfred's horrifying tale with a kraken. Even you were enthralled by all his tales. Having the shopkeep thoroughly wrapped around his finger. He leans in close again. "Sorry, I got so lost. How much were these rings again?"
The man blinks as if resurfacing from a trance. "A sea-loving man like you? You can keep it for five coffers."
You gape at him, eyes blown wide.  That’s less than what you pay for bread.
The man turns to you. "Lass, you better keep an eye on him. This one belongs to the sea."
 He's... not wrong.
"You really are too kind," Dick says handing the money over.
"Anytime lad. Feel free to come back with more of your stories!" He calls out as you two walk out the door.
“Since when were you a sailor?” You ask, nudging your shoulder against his.
“Since Jay told me stories.” He answers, nudging back.
“So they were all made up?” You ask, shaking his arm.
 Dick hums noncommittally.
You frown at him. “C’mon fess up, pup.”
“Not *all* of them. I just spiced up the truth, that’s all.”
 “The sirens?”
Dick freezes.
“Wait, are sirens real?” You gape, pounding your hand on his chest.
 “Well, kinda.”
 “Kinda?!”
Dick walks ahead of you trying to avoid your question. He does the mature thing and plugs his ears with his fingers. You continue to pester him all the way down the street.
The scent from the bakery wafted in the air calling to both of you as you two continue to bicker. Your stomachs cry out in a chorus. You look at your watch. You knew you'd forgotten something.
"I'll get us something to eat," Dick says, clearly staring at the cupcakes. Getting cupcakes wouldn't hurt. It would be better than getting an actual wedding cake.
You shake your head. "I might sit for a bit." You say handing him your purse and wrenching the bags from his grip. He huffs but doesn't complain.
You park yourself on a bench just outside the bakery. Going to town is just as exhausting as you remember it being. You lull your head back, looking to the sky. What are the odds that it's safe to just doze off here on the bench? Probably pretty low.
Dick watches you from a window, snickering. You were so cute when you're nodding off.  He should probably ask if they sell coffee too because you look like you're going to need the entire pot.
He lets a woman go in front of him because Alfred taught him manners and not because he was delighted to see you nearly fold into your shopping bags. You startle and yelp then straighten up. Great seas, you're so cute.
"Hey handsome, can I get a name?"
Dick turns to the woman with an amicable smile. "Oh, the name's Dick."
"I'm ..." Dick is barely paying attention when he sees you take out one of the rings you'd bought with a stupidly happy smile on your face as you try it on. You look up at your hand and Dick can't help the twitch of his mouth.
You wave to him, feeling his eyes on you. He waves back with a thousand-watt smile.
There's a hand sprawled on his chest. "I've never seen you here before." The woman purrs. Dick steps back, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
 "I'm from out of town-"
"That explains it." She says, batting her eyes.
Dick's not too concerned, not when you've just disappeared from his sight. Dick's about to run outside when he feels a familiar pair of arms wrap around his waist.
"My husband and I are just here for a day trip to run some errands." You huff glaring at the woman.
Dick wraps an arm around you, chuckling at the priceless expression on your face.
"Dickie, did you want to introduce me?" You ask sweetly.
"Sorry, I didn't quite catch your name." Dick says, feeling genuinely bad because he really wasn't paying attention.  In his defense, you were distracting him.
 "I'm Mia."
"I'm (Y/n)." You say trying not to puff your cheeks. You clearly just want the woman to go away.
Dick wants to pinch you for being so cute. The disgustingly sweet aura you two radiate was enough to make the woman go away. Much to your relief and Dick's amusement.  Dick lets himself sink into your embrace.
Dick pinches your cheek as you get the bread from the counter. You swat his hand away with a loaf of slightly stale bread you were gonna rework later. "What?!"
"Nothing, you're just so damn cute, honey." Dick laughs, pinching your cheek again.
"Says the dork who punched someone." You say, pecking him on the lips.
Dick rolls his eyes. "He totally deserved it."
 "Sure, sure."
 Ok, he did.
Dick pecks your lips. "Let's go find you a bouquet and a minister so you can keep that ring on."
You flush not noticing that you haven't taken the ring off. Dick looks down at you like he's the luckiest man in the world.
“Will it still make you happy?” Dick asks, fidgeting in front of the courthouse.
You raise a brow at him prompting him to elaborate.
“Getting married without a proper ceremony, I mean.”
Ah. You clutch the bouquet of cornflowers to your chest, twining your finger with his. “As long as I have you it’ll be perfect.”
Dick sniffles. “Stop saying things like that.”
 “You started~”
Dick presses his forehead against your, letting out a low trill. “I can’t wait to sign on the paper and make you my wife. Officially.”
You nudge your nose against his. “I can’t wait either.”
The minister looks between the two of you suspiciously, probably looking for signs of which one of you suggested eloping. “You may now say your vows.”
Dick takes out a crumpled sheet of paper with yellowing edges. In a cool crisp voice, he begins to speak:
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
The wind rises in your chest, tears welling up in your eyes. You try to keep yourself together.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres.”
You cup your hand over your mouth, your father’s words coming to life through Dick’s voice.
 “Love never fails.”
Dick reaches out to you, wiping the tears running down your face. You don’t know if Dick knows how much that meant to you but you’re endlessly thankful.
You feel flush. You’re not really sure you could follow that up. God, you really should have prepared more. You take a deep breath and will yourself not to turn tail and run.
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm;
for love is strong as death,
passion fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
a raging flame.
Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If one offered for love
all the wealth of one’s house,
it would be utterly scorned.
Dick looks at you, fondness curving his lips. You smile back at him sheepishly.
The minister clears his throat. “You may now kiss the bride.”
Dick picks you up and spins you around then brings you close to kiss you. You giggle at his theatrics. In the corner of your vision, you could see the minister just looking extremely tired.
 “Give me the bouquet.”
You don’t mainly because you have a policy of making people explain things before you do anything and also because you were hoping to throw the bouquet yourself.
Dick tilts his head. “Uh, give me two.” He pauses. “Please?” “Will you promise me this won’t curse anyone?”
“Just because my dad’s girlfriend is a sea witch does not mean I curse people.”
“And you feel absolutely no need to unpack that, huh?”
“Sweetie, pleeeeeease.” He gives you the big eyes and you silently wonder how selkie divorce works.
You hand him two flowers. He pinches off the stems and says: “Hold out your hands.”
“Can I at least know what kind of ungodly ritual my husband is suckering me into?” You huff as he puts one of the cornflowers in your palms.
“It’s more superstition really. My mom used to say that if you tell a flower about your love for someone and let the sea carry it away, then your love will be able to weather storms.”
You want to tell him that based on the stories the sea had nothing to do with the ferocity of his parent’s love  but when you look back into the glitter of nostalgia in his eyes you know that there is nothing for it.
You hold the cornflower close, whispering promises to it, an endless litany of devotions that you hope only the sea will hear. Dick beside you does much the same with regular pauses and additions to his. When you’re both finished, you let the flowers fall harmlessly into the water and watch them, despite all odds, drift together in the ocean.
Dick nuzzles you into the floor. You lay flat on his pelt as Dick hovers over you. He kisses you, nipping at your bottom lip. You hum and slide your hands up his back and part your lips to give him access. Dick pulls away, dragging his lips down your face. His teeth graze on the skin of your neck. Feeling ticklish, you giggle. He smiles pressing another wet kiss to your skin before pulling back. You whine already missing the close contact.
"I think we forgot something." Dick says, gently grasping your wrist and kissing it.
You furrow your brow. You play with his hair as you try to think. "Pretty sure we did everything," you mumble. You shiver when you feel Dick's teeth catch on your pulse, his luminescent eyes staring at you intently. "I'm telling you, sweetheart, you're forgetting something."
You groan. It would be easier to think if Dick's lips weren't on your skin. "We've gotten the rings, thrown the rice, and hit Wally in the head with the bouquet..." You bite back a squeak when Dick sucks a hickey onto your wrist.
 "Getting warmer, darling."
You flush. You try to control your breathing but your skin feels so hot against his. You and Dick have met with a minister and he's also carried you over the threshold... All that's left is...
You can feel Dick's hand slide up your shirt, his hand warm against your chilly skin. "Consummation." You whisper, swallowing thickly.
Dick's eyes are bright and mischievous in the firelight.  "Bingo." He lets go of your wrist and lowers himself to press a hungry kiss on your lips; it was all tongue and teeth as his hips move against yours. He pinches your nipples between his fingers drawing out a gasp from you. Dick takes this chance to deepen the kiss. He groans into the kiss when you tug at his hair. You moan against him, wrapping your legs around his waist trying to pull him closer.  Your movements are clumsy, speaking to your inexperience. Dick is going to take his time with you.
Dick kisses your nose and pulls away. He can’t resist. Dick drags the shirt slowly over his body. He hears your breath hitch and a vain sort of pride fuels Dick’s ego. It was one thing for other people to tell him he was pretty. It was an entirely different thing to have you look at him with so much awe and reverence. That look in your eyes always makes his skin prickle with delight.
You trace the shape of his muscles with your fingers, your mouth parted slightly as you drink in the sight of him. Dick is no less awe-inspiring than the first time you saw him. You marvel over the scars crisscrossing his chest and arms. None of the imperfections on his skin ever managed to dull his beauty. Unfairly, they only enhanced it and took your breath away every time you noticed a new detail about him. Your hand drifts down to the V of his abs; the tough makes him tremble as it dips closer to the hem of his pants. Dick takes in a sharp breath before kissing you again. It was partly because he could never get enough of your lips and partially to get your attention.
“Honey, I want to see you too.” He whispers into your lips.
Your body locks up at his words and a heat spreads across your chest, your neck, and up to your ears. Your mouth feels so dry all of a sudden and your feet turn into blocks of ice. What if Dick finds you repulsive? What if he sees you naked and he can’t stand what he sees? Will he leave or will he smile through it all the while gritting his teeth through it? You’re not pretty, not the way Dick is and you certainly can’t measure up to the other Selkies you’ve met. How the flying fuck were you supposed to compte with Babs or Kori? You seriously consider running away and hiding in your room until you feel Dick’s teeth graze against the column of your neck.
“Please.” He breathes and his voice is so thick with want that it’s enough for you to forget the desire to melt into the baseboards even for just a moment. You don’t want him to be disappointed, to know that he’s traded down. You’re scared. You don’t want to be but you’re fucking terrified.
“It’s ok,” he whispers. “I know you’re nervous.” He kisses your forehead. Dick knows he needs to be patient. He’s waited to feel all of you for this long. He’s willing just to wait a bit more if it means you’re comfortable.
You close your eyes, grabbing the hem of your shirt. Dick kisses your eyelid. He bites his lip, resisting the urge to sink his teeth into your flesh. It’s so supple and hot against his. Instead, he busies himself by helping you out of your bra but his fingers are clumsy with his brain too full of your skin. You giggle as you both fumble for the clasps.
Dick wastes no time peppering your chest with kisses once you’re completely bare. “So pretty.” Dick purrs against your chest. He nuzzles into the valley of your breasts as he feels your breaths even out. Sliding his hands up and down your sides reverently, he makes certain that you know just how beautiful you are with every bite, every kiss, and every touch.
His attention goes to your breasts. You arch your back as Dick begins rolling your nipples between his teeth. He savors all the little gasps and mewls you make. "Dick." You sigh out his name happily. Dick groans, hips gyrating against yours. "Dick." You repeat, tugging at his hair. You rock your hips in time with his.
Your voice is driving him insane. The way his name rolls off your tongue like silk fries his nerves. All he wants to do is make you scream it over and over while he takes care of you and lets you know just how good you feel against him.
"That's it baby, let me make you feel good."Dick says, giving your nipple one last lick before taking care of the other. "I wanna make you feel so good, sweetheart."
The husky quality of his voice makes you shiver. Your fingers travel down his back, fingernails lightly scraping against his skin. He trembles against your as you slide your hand down his chest and down his pants. Your fingertips brush against the head of his member. You wrap your hand around his cock, teasing his head with your thumb. Your thumb is wet with his precum as Dick pants softly into your skin. Dick can't help but move against your hand.
 "Sweetheart," he grunts, " I can't... I-"
Dick grasps your wrist, pressing a kiss to it before pulling it over your head. You whine. Dick's breaths tickle your ear as he tries to steady them. He kisses your cheek and nibbles on your ear. Dick grabs your other arm and pins it down next to the other, pinning both hands with one hand.  You squirm underneath him, trying to break his hold.
"Let me take care of you." He says, trying to level his voice but you're making it so hard.
You drag your leg up his calf. Dick brushes his lips down your neck, sucking a hickey into every available surface of your skin on the way down your hips and murmuring ‘I love you’ as he does.
 "Dick, please." You moan.
"Sweetheart," Dick says, biting the soft flesh of your hip.
You wriggle in his grip causing the hand wound around them to tighten. Dick watches you intently as he bites another hickey into the flesh or your hip. You gasp out his name and Dick can feel his cock twitch. He needs more.
“Shhhh, I know, Honey. Shhhhhh.” Dick says, kissing along the hem of your pants before his teeth catch on the fabric. Dick tugs the button free and pulls the zipper down with his teeth. You think your heart stops.  Every little thing he does drives you up the wall.  He hooks his fingers to the top of your pants and pulls them down slowly. You can feel the fabric drag against your skin as Dick presses I love yous up your leg.
Dick bites lightly at your ankle as he tosses your pants over his shoulder. Dick licks his lips, they’re plush and glossy from the saliva. He’s looking at you with so much love and adoration that you feel yourself melt. You’re suddenly painfully aware of your nakedness. You snap your legs shut shyly, withdrawing your ankle from his hold.  You curl in on yourself, muttering an apology.
He shakes his head, chuckling softly. Dick pushes the hair out of your face. He presses his forehead against yours, kissing you softly and running his hands up and down your sides. Your legs slowly open to let his body closer to yours. You just want to feel his skin against yours.
"I love how your body reacts to me, honey." Dick winks.
You wrap your arms around him, your muscles relaxing a fraction. He can feel the ring on your finger dig into the back of his neck. You are his and he is yours. Dick trills at the thought. You laugh, the vibrations from his lips tickling you.
"I love you. You know that, don't you?" Dick asks, nibbling your lip.
"The whole world knows," you snort, "especially after that fiasco at the town square."
"I had to protect my wifey's honor." He says with a cheeky smile that takes over his face.
"Somehow, I feel like knocking his teeth in was a bit much." You say, pulling him into another kiss because... well, your husband is awfully adorable even if he is a disaster.
"Only seems fair," he says, his hand travelling down your body, kissing your clavicle, "he was being rude to my wife." Dick's fingers dip between your soaking folds. You were dripping just for him. Dick would be lying if he said that didn't inflate his ego. With his fingers curled inside you as he drags them in and out, you arch into him. You thread your finger through his hair and pull.
"Dickie, I want you," you whisper, rubbing your knee against his crotch. "I want you so much."
Dick ruts against your leg, breath ragged and desperate. Dick's body is so sensitive to your touch; it's ridiculous.
"I want you too." He manages barely above a whisper.
"Then fuck me, " you look away from his, biting your lip, "please?"
"Honey," he groans. God, why did you have to say it like that? "You're going to make me cum."
"Isn't that the point?" You ask, your nails dragging on his back as you try and fuck yourself on his fingers.
What did Dick do to deserve you?
"It is," he says, taking his hand out of your folds. "But not before I can make you cum first." He licks his fingers in front of you never breaking eye contact as he does.
You cover your face and squeak because damn it Dick you can't just- Who does that?!
Dick hastily shimmies out of his pants, his cock springing free. You hear a pap as his cock slap against the toned muscles of his stomach. You squeak, peaking through your fingers, the slap ringing sinfully in your mind. Dick lets out an amused breath as he hovers over you. Stroking his length, he smears the precum along your inner thigh, whispering how much you turn him on and how he can't get enough of you.
"Sweetheart, I want you to look at me while I fuck you." He grunts and the air in your lungs evaporate. You think you'll follow suit in a few seconds. "Sweetheart, don't make me beg you."He says into your neck.
Dick, you're not helping, you think to yourself but the saccharine way he always says your pet names has you giving into the request. Dick is smiling down at you and your heart melts. He kisses you deeply. You wrap your limbs around him, your heels digging into the small of his back and your fingers tangled in his locks as he slowly enters you.
He moans into your lips and you moan into his. There's a burning stretch inside you that has you begging for more. He bottoms out and your walls flutter around his cock trying to accommodate his girth.  A shiver travels up his spine feeling your velvet walls trying to milk his cock. Dick pulls away from the kiss to whisper: "I love you."
"I love you too, hubby. Please move."
"Aye aye, wifey." He says slowly, pulling his length out. You can feel the long drag of his cock against your walls. You mewl for a lack of anything intelligent to say.
The sound is enough to egg him on. He pushes in and out of you in long strokes, enjoying how your body rocks against his chasing your own pleasure. You pepper kisses to his chest and leave your own marks. Dick would be embarrassed by the lewd noises he makes as you do so but he's too caught up in you to really care. He doesn't even care if the whole world can hear him right now, all he cares about is that you're his and that you're loving this as much as he is.
"Baby, you feel so good. Your pussy was made for me. Ah!" Dick says, his hips stuttering when he feels you clench at those words. He kisses your shoulder. He loves the way his name falls from your lips as if it's the only thing you know how to say. "That's it baby. You're so pretty moaning and gasping and begging for my cock."
All Dick can focus on is the sound of your skin slapping against his. You kiss up his neck, nibbling at his Adam's apple as he swallows. "Dickie, I want more."
Dick's mind comes crashing to a halt.
"Dick, please. I want to feel you more. Please, go faster." You say, voice husky with want. It makes Dick feel like his body has turned to gelatin.
He kisses your forehead, a blush spreading across his skin. "Sweetheart, I can't."
"Please Dick." You breathe, pouting at him.
Fuck, you can't look this cute while begging him to fuck you... twice. That's just not fair.
"Sweetheart, if I go any faster, I'm going to cum." The embarrassment is hard to hide.
You drag your nails across his back and lick a stripe up his neck." Dick, I want you to fill me up. Dick, please, I'm so close." You beg, teeth catching on his collarbone, looking at him with watery eyes.
Dick is a sucker and he can never say no to a pretty face. He kisses one of your eyelids before slamming his hips into yours. His balls slap against your skin as he thrusts in and out with wild abandon. He thrusts deeper at an angle that was sure to hit your g spot every time.
You sing his name sweetly as you pull him closer. Your nipples rub against his chest as you bounce on his cock. Your walls constrict around him making it harder to pull out every time. All he wants to do is to stay inside you and revel in your warmth but he wants to bring you over the edge and fuck you stupid. He rolls your clit between his fingers as you whimper into his neck.
You both cum crying each other's name. Dick kisses you as he fucks you through your orgasm, painting your walls with his hot seed.
Dick rests his weight on top of you as he pulls out with some of his seed painting your inner thigh. "I love you." He pants.
"I love you too, you heavy lug." You grouse, trying to push him off of you.
Dick has mercy on you and rolls you two over with you resting on top of him, perfect for cuddling you.
Dick whispers "I love you" and other praises every time he opens his mouth and you return the sentiment by kissing a different part of his face.
After a few moments of basking in the afterglow, Dick flushes seeing just how many hickeys he's left you and he flushes even harder seeing his own chest marked up.
"Sorry about that," He says kissing one of the marks. "I just can't help myself-" Kiss "-You look so pretty covered in love bites-" Kiss "-Sweetheart, you gotta stop sounding cute. I'll get hard again- Fuck."
Your hand wraps around his shaft, fingers brushing against his skin experimentally. "But I want you." You say bluntly.
Dick is going to combust. "I want you to. I've wanted you like this for so long."
You stop. Your thumb brushes against the tip of his already leaking cock.  Your lips curl into a smile. "Is that why you were so adamant on getting married?" You snicker, booping his nose with yours.
"No, yes, maybe... partially." He stammers out.
You snort. "You know that wasn't necessary for us to..." The flush creeps back on your lips. You somehow have the audacity to look shy while still stroking his shaft. Dick is going to burst.
"I didn't want you to miss out on it," Dick says steadying his breath, feeling himself get harder as he talks or attempts to, "I wanted you to experience it since you told me you dreamt about it as a kid."
You stop and Dick bucks to urge you to keep going.
"You remembered that?" You ask, the expression on your face is complicated.
Dick sits up, brushing a finger against your cheek. "Of course, I did."
"Dork." You sniffle, kissing his cheek.
"Only for you," He laughs but it's cut off by the movement of your hand. "Sweetheart, are you trying to kill me?" He gasps, biting into his knuckle.
"I'm only thanking you for being so sweet." You tease, spreading your mixed juices all over his cock. "and I just love my hubby that's all."

Still working on improving my smut, huge thanks to @darkficsyouneveraskedfor for some tips and editing the shit out of it. 😘 also I know there is a creepy clown in the pic but I feel like I have to say there aren’t any clowns in the fic. I hate clowns.
Chapter 1:
It was the kind of summer night you dream about, warm enough to keep you comfortable in your shorts and peasant top, but with a light breeze that keeps you cool enough to fight the flush of alcohol in your veins. You look forward to these moments when you are able to go out with your girlfriends and let loose, forgetting about all life’s responsibilities, if just for a single night.
“Come on!” Ash calls over her shoulder, her hand tight around your wrist pulling you impatiently.
“Aww but that looks so good” you groan as you press your face longingly against the glass barrier of the hand dipped corn dog cart.
The sweet scent of the frying corn dough wafts tantalizingly through the air making your mouth water. You friends laugh at your theatrics, having just helped you scarf down a large sugary funnel cake and a platter of nachos, the evidence of which still stains the corner of your mouth. Really, it was their fault for getting you tipsy before taking you to the county fair, everything just smelled heavenly and if you could you would try one of everything.
“Just a slushee?!” You beg as Jen steps behind you and pushes you out of the food court, giggling the entire time.
“Come on, fight the drunchies! You promised you would try that new funhouse,” Jen whines, looping her arm through yours, Ash doing the same on the other side.
“Oh yeah,” you grumble.
“Oh stop it” Ash scolds playfully. “Everyone at work keeps talking about it - it’s like a mini escape room! And I’ve always wanted to do one, please.” She rants excitedly before giving you her best puppy dog eyes.
“Ugh that’s cheating. No one can resist those big brown eyes” you pout, but yield as easily as they knew you would.
“I know” Ash smirks, tossing back her long silky black hair over her slender shoulder.
“This is gonna be so much fun, I promise” Jen bumps your hip, giving you a wide encouraging smile.
You manage a strained grin as you let them lead you through the crowd. It’s not that you don’t like funhouses or the idea of doing an escape room, having always loved solving riddles and doing puzzles. It’s just you don’t like clowns, and every funhouse in your experience has at least one.
“Oh damn there’s a line!” Jen moans as you all stop in front of a large structure covered in flashing lights, the ominous ‘Tricksters Trap’ bathing your face in a violent red glow.
Garish contrasting colors somehow both attract your eye and make it hard to look at. Your pupils dilate with the lines of fluorescent bulbs burning into your retinas. The stereotypical circus music blares through the cheap speakers, reminding you of one of those old Jack in the box toys. And of course, without fail, was the obligatory clown statue hanging over the entrance, like some creepy sentinel there to guide you to your inevitable demise.
“Ugh fucking clowns” you grimace as you pass by the entrance, heading toward the end of the line.
“Yeah they definitely nailed the creep factor,” Jen agrees, her eyes shining with nervous excitement.
“I know isn’t it great?!” Ash squeals.
You stand there taking in the horrific detailing painted on the side of the metal structure. You are thankful when Ash explains there is a time limit, only ten minutes to complete the puzzle or else they kick you out and you have to try again. If you figure out the puzzle you get to leave through the mirror maze and you earn the coveted “I tricked the Trickster” sticker.
“Gotta get that sticker, or else that bitch Katie at work will never let me forget that she got one and I didn’t” Ash complains, causing you and Jen to share a look and snicker.
“Hey! Don’t laugh, this is serious! We gotta be smart and figure this out, failure is not an option” she urges dramatically before collapsing into drunken giggles with you and Jen.
“You ladies seem eager to prove yourselves,” slithers a low voice.
Startled you gasp and spin around quickly. The three of you look up at the tall lean figure standing behind you. He wears a perfectly tailored black ensemble, that matches the color of his slicked back hair. His eyes practically glow green against his alabaster complexion. His sharp cheekbones and angular jaw make your breath hitch, causing his thin lips to curve into a sinister smirk. He is stunning.
“Um, yeah. Well this place has the whole town buzzin’. Seems like everyone is talking about it” Jen is the first to speak.
“Ah I see. Wouldn’t want to miss your chance to take a stab at it” the mysterious man surmised, eyes focused on you.
“We got this shit. Right guys?” Ash assures him as she playfully smacks you and Jen.
“Well, I guess we’ll find out. Good luck,” he challenges with a raise of a brow.
You stare after him as he saunters away without another word. His hips and shoulders sway smoothly, his soft footsteps giving him a dangerous almost feline vibe, like he could rival even the most deadly of predators. As he turns to round the corner of the ride he takes one last look over his shoulder at you. Your eyes lock for only a fraction of a second but it’s enough to send a chill down your spine.
“That was weird, right?” You mutter, eyes still transfixed where he disappeared.
“Eh, just another creepy dude. If I had a nickel for every weirdo who tries to chat me up…” Jen jokes.
“You’d have like a whole 50 cents,” sasses Ash.
You are finally broken from your daze when Ash is pushed into you. You laugh and try to brush off the lingering effect of the handsome stranger, shifting your focus back to your friends. The line goes by quicker than expected, with only one group out of the three ahead of you making it out with stickers. The losing groups return to the line from a back door, bickering about where they went wrong.
Finally it is your turn. Ash claps her hands excitedly, dancing up the metal stairs to the costumed man at the entrance. His red and white stripped suit is expertly torn and painted with fake blood to make him look as intimidating as possible. With a tip of his top hat he welcomes the three of you and begins to explain the rules in his well practiced accent.
“Come one come all to the Tricksters Trap, if you’re feeling lost, just go find the map.” He sings with flair and a perfectly timed bow, directing you to the inauspicious black door.
Taking a deep breath you follow your squealing friends into the darkened hallway. Pausing to look back as the door creaks shut, cutting off the jovial sounds of laughter and chatter with a sudden slam. You flinch at the loud noise and turn back to the dim hallway. The short corridor is lined with wall to wall green velvet curtains barely visible with the green rope lights running along the ceiling.
“Guys?” You whisper when you don’t see them next to you, causing your heart rate to quicken
You call for them again, this time louder, your feet unwilling to move from the spot. It has only been thirty seconds and you are already about to call it quits. Get a grip. You take a hesitant step forward.
“You guys?!” You call shakily.
“Hey! Come on we found the map!” Jen pokes her head from around the corner at the end of the hall.
She disappears just as quickly, waving her arm for you to follow. You breathe a sigh of relief and rush after her. You enter a large room filled with all sorts of random objects. It’s as if it is designed to overload your senses. The green from the hall carried on into the room, more velvet green curtains hung on the walls that were not obstructed by shelves of books or other oddities. You saw everything from perfectly aligned glass jars filled with alien looking creatures, grandfather clocks, to treasure chests overflowing with grizzled toys.
Jen and Ash are hunched over a table with a map spread out smoothly. It was easy enough to see it was a map of the room and hallway, with what appeared to be three small rooms hidden along the wall behind the heavy green drapery. You go over and pull back a curtain and find a locked door, the other two also hiding a locked door.
“Ok so it looks like we gotta find a way to open these doors” you offer, your anxiety calming a bit as you focus on the mystery at hand.
“Hey look there is some sort of code over here by the lock on the door.” Ash hollers excitedly.
You each pick a door code and frantically search the room. It doesn’t take long for you to figure out you need to use the books on the large shelf along one wall. The first number tells you the book the second refers to a specific page. You find a slip of paper in the book with a riddle written in a blood red ink.
“I make two people out of one” You read aloud.
“You can hold me in one hand, but I’m used to fill the room” Ash reads hers, her face twisting in concentration.
You both look to Jen, “I have two hands, but I can’t clap.”
“Damn no wonder so many people failed, definitely wish I wasn’t drunk right now” Ash laughs.
“No no we can do this, it’s probably items in the room so let’s just focus. We’ll do one at a time.” You assert, pacing the room and trying to take in all the random objects.
“Two hands…” you mutter as you stop in front of a large grandfather clock. “Clocks have hands!” You yell excitedly and open the narrow door.
The heavy pendulums swing inside and you see a shining silver glint off the rounded golden end. You pull off the small silver key, stuck on by a tiny magnet, and jump in excitement.
“Holy crap! You’re a genius!” Jen exclaims running over to take the key and try it in the door.
The key slides in smoothly and the door opens with a gratifying click.
“Woo! Keep going, you are on a roll!” Ash claps as she cheers you on.
“Ok, ok” you giggle before taking a deep breath. “Two people out of one… maybe a camera? Or wait…” you realize as you stare at Ash currently checking her makeup in an antique mirror hung between two curtains.
“Ash! Try pulling on that mirror!” You yell pointing frantically at the mirror in front of her.
Her brows knit together briefly before understanding, grabbing the frame and tugging gently until it swings open, revealing a key hung on the wall.
“Yes!” You all shriek together.
Suddenly, the lights flicker and a loud maniacal cackle reverberates through the surround sound speaker, turning your elation into yelps of surprise.
“Two minutes left” a familiar polished voice echoes forebodingly throughout the room.
“Shit, that scared the crap out of me” Jen laughs clutching at her chest.
The warning gives you pause, managing to shift the spirit of the whole room. Ash giggles nervously as she watches the lights of the room transition from their previous dim yellow light to a menacing red hue. The mood lighting in addition to the increasing volume of the horror soundtrack playing over the speaker helps to put you back into your initial anxious state.
“Seriously? Is this fucking necessary?” You curse, shaking your head.
“Ok let’s get the last one guys! We can still do this!” Jen yells through the cacophony of sound effects.
“Yeah what can we fit in our hand but somehow also fills the room?” Ash reiterated the final riddle.
“These red lights make it so much harder to see” Jen complains bitterly as she rummages through the items inside a large chest.
“Lights… Jen that’s it! A lightbulb!” A smile breaks out on your face as you figure out the final clue.
“Look up there!” Ash points to a solitary darkened light bulb screwed into the ceiling.
“I got it.” Jen jumps onto the table and reaches up, unscrewing it quickly. “There is a key inside!” She shouts.
She unscrews the bottom of the fake lightbulb and received the key before handing it to Ash. Each of you run over to the corresponding doors and turn the key, squealing in delight when they all slide open.
“Is that it?” Jen asks looking into the cramped dark space behind the door.
It was little more than a closet. Barely enough room for each of you to stand in. You were at a loss. You could have sworn that would be the end.
“Guys there is a lever here on the back wall of mine, how about yours?” Ash’s muffled voice calls from inside her closet.
“Oh yeah mine too!” Jen replies.
“Do you think we have to pull them at the same time? ‘Cus mine did nothing when I tried it” Ash says poking her head out to look at you.
“Thirty seconds!” That haunting voice booms again as a tick clock sounds through the speakers, counting down your final moments.
“Ok let’s try it together!” You nod at both of them, before stepping into the tight dark space.
“THREE! TWO! ONE!” You shout, mirroring your friends calls, pulling down your lever with a snap.
There is a moment of silence as the lights of the room behind you suddenly go dark, the music and sound effects cutting off instantly.
“Did we get it?!” You yell.
You don’t get the chance to hear your friends response as the wood door slams behind you, locking you into the small space.
