As an advocate for self care this post is 100% a salute to our Austin Fire and EMS Departments. Don’t see many direct appreciation postings for them on social media. Earlier this week during a cardio work out my blood pressure spiked out of whack and I thought the 22 year old LAD Stent from my first heart attack had thrown in the towel. Taking no chances I had Mercy call 911. We fully respect The Golden Hour for heart attacks. I knew to sit still, chew on two aspirins and breathe slow & deep until help arrived. The response from our First Responders was very swift. Their professionalism, care and reassurance to have everything in hand was assuring and comforting. A highly skilled transport to Seton Main ended up with an overnight stay for testing and observation. Bloodwork and a 7am treadmill stress test cleared me to get back home and keep on truckin’. ProTip from a heart attack survivor - Know the symptoms for Heart Attack & Stroke. Listen to your body. If you feel like you’re in heart or stroke trouble call 911. * Self Care Sunday *

So among the many bright lights my bilateral lung transplant journey has shown me, prioritizing my own self care is at the top of my list. Listening to my body and responding appropriately.

Well listening is easy unless you’ve been getting by with significant hearing loss.

Brought this topic up to my ENT after my sinus surgery experience and he literally walked me down the hall to Dr. Mullen, Audiologist for an exam. One exam was all it took for her to reveal why my favorite initial response to Miss Mercy, the kids and grandkids at home was “What?”.

A couple of follow up appointments later and I have welcomed a nice pair of Hearing Aids to my growing bag of tricks.

In all seriousness I was overwhelmed by the mid to high pitch sounds I hadn’t heard in quite some time.

Hearing Aids at 63! Humbling? Well kind of. The benefits of corrected hearing loss far outweigh my preconceived notion that Hearing Aids might make by butt look big. (#JK 😂)

I have embraced the improvement to my hearing with open arms and march forward with much vigor and determination to seize the many blessed moments of my everday life.

Thank you for all you do Dr. Mullen!

Self Care is not just for Sunday at all.

So here I am 30 days away from my 5th Lungaversary! As I reach this milestone following my life saving bilateral lung transplant, I was blessed to schedule a much needed out-patient sinus surgery to treat chronic sinusitis and also have a nasal polyp removed. So grateful for Austin Regional Clinic ENT Specialist Dr. Sebastian for a flawless 4 hour procedure. Doc, you are a Rock Star!

I have to also shout out my discharge Nurse Anna for her fantastic work ethic and level of care. Anna made sure to take dedicated time to get my pain level down to a most manageable level prior to my being sent home. Much appreciated Nurse Anna!!!

A traveling nurse, Anna will soon be off to her next assignment in Alabama. All the best to you and Hubby Anna! Mercy and I are your fans here in Austin.
