You know Lana Del Rey? In um, her song Venice Bitch the first line is "fear fun fear love / fresh out of fucks forever", and it's the third song on the album Norman Fucking Rockwell so it stands out. And Venice Bitch is as the title because - well it's a play on Venice Beach in um, California and California is a big part in Lana Del Rey's backstory, Del Rey is a town in California, but Lana Del Rey was born in New York. Her real name is Elizabeth Grant and her dad is a realtor, um, or he was, he makes music now. But Venice Bitch is a play on Venice Beach and the opening line mentions "fear fun" which is also the name of an album by Father John Misty and that album is also about California, and he's also not from California. But he's from Maryland not New York, and he's not a priest and isn't religious but he was raised Christian though and his real name is Joshua Tillman. And he has this song called The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment, but it's not on Fear Fun it's on the album after that. And there's a lot of lines in that song that make it sound like the unnamed celebrity the song is written about is Lana. The song is about um, how he slept with some famous woman and her best friend and hated her but she was really similar to him and all the things he complains about are things he does himself in the song. And Lana and Father John Misty get compared a lot because they have similar childhoods and um, really similar careers. But Father John Misty and Lana know each other and have known each other since 2012, and he was in the Freak music video which is one of her songs. But he's married but there's rumors that he has an open marriage because he said that in an interview in 2015 and his wife and Lana are best friends, so people think "fear fun fear love" is because her and Father John Misty are secretly dating, and the album is about dating a musician who is kind of an asshole. Norman Fucking Rockwell I mean, that album. Um, am I dreaming?

❝ playing my heartstrings like a rock star ❞

# summary; you're messing with his feelings and he doesn't understand why
# playlist; hey arthur!, arthur hill, think i'm in love with you, chris stapleton, please notice, christian leave
# word count; 1.9k
# note; i needed a happy ending my first fic on here cant be angst<3 I did not proofread this so sorry
The three boys sat in their sitting room, a comfortable silence lingering as they scrolled through their phones. "Arthur wants to know if we're going to come to the pub with him," George finally spoke up, looking to his friends and mentally crossing his fingers they'd agree. They deserved it after the week they've had.
Arthur chews the inside of his lip waiting for Chris' reply, not wanting to be the one to reject the invitation, but he knows you'll be there after your earlier text about going for drinks.
Chris shrugs laying his phone down next to him, "I don't see why not," both he and George stand, heading in the direction of their bedrooms to grab sweaters and shoes, assuming everyone is down.
When they disappear from sight, Arthur finds himself groaning, pressing his palms so hard to his closed eyes that he sees stars dotting his vision when he eventually opens them. It's not that he doesn't want to see you, he knows that when he does he can't resist the later idea of going home with you and he hates himself for it.
"They can't know," you always say, referring to your shared group of friends, "it'll throw off the dynamic, you can just come to my flat for the night on the weekend." You're grown adults, who cares what you get into when you're alone? He doubts anyone would really care as much as you think, but every time he tries to express that someone ends up with their feelings hurt, and 99.9% of the time they're his.
He makes his way to his room, spending more time than he cares to admit trying to find the cologne he knows is your favorite. His closet's a mess, but he finds the jumper you love to steal kicking himself for trying so hard as he throws it on over his old t-shirt. He stands in his bathroom pulling a baseball cap on to cover how flat his hair had become from lying on the couch for the last two hours.
Chris is yelling something from the kitchen about how he's worse than a woman about his looks, he can't find it in himself to care enough to think of a witty reply, instead just shoving his hands deeper into his pockets.
their bar of choice isn't far so they decide walking is the better and cheaper option, the walk is quick, and he stays a few paces behind his friends with music playing in his airpods as he gives himself a pep talk preparing to see you.
You sit at the bar with Becky and Arthur chatting about everything and nothing all at once, "You know, babe, I still need to get you on see it off, George and both Arthurs have nominated you now," she remarks, smirking as she brings her pint to her lips, you look to Arthur whos nodding along with her.
As the three of you chat, you're practically yelling over the people around you, "Let me know a date and we'll get it sorted," you smile, Arthur pipes up about needing the toilet and slips off his stool heading off in the direction of the restrooms.
As soon as he's out of sight, she scoots into the seat he once inhabited with her brows raised, "Anything new with you and Mr Hill?" You sigh, dreading having to answer that question, "There won't be anything new ever I don't think, I've made it clear how bad of an idea we are," your stomach turns at your own words, suddenly feeling a wave of nausea wash over you.
It wasn't like you didn't want anything other than to be with him, but everyone was so close and the what if's shadow how good the relationship could be.
What if something bad happens and you can't spend time together as a big group any longer? What if you couldn't film together? What if you had to listen to songs written about how bad of a girlfriend you were? She groans, her head falling onto her crossed arms, "You're so doubtful, darling. Give him a shot, he's such a sweet boy, especially to you." She sounded exactly like your mum when you told her the same thing after he came home with you one weekend. Sighing you continue, "I've never met someone like him-" You're cut off suddenly as rough hands slap over your eyes, "Guess who," George Clarke and his atrociously fake, heightened voice are quite unmistakable, you shove his hands away, giggling, and spin on your stool.
Your heart thumps against your chest, rattling your ribcage knowing there's no chance he and Chris showed up without the one person you've been waiting all week to see, sure enough there he is, though he's not even looking in your direction instead his eyes are glued to his phone screen with both headphones in, obviously not wanting to be here in the slightest.
You greet the boys not really paying any mind to anything being said, keeping your attention on Arthur the whole time. finally, once the four of your friends are distracted, you slip off your barstool and join him at the table he was sitting at alone, "You alright?" your question hangs in the air as you sink your teeth into the plush of your lower lip, "Fine, thanks," he replies dryly going out of his way to seem as uninterested as possible.
Scoffing, you snatch his phone from his hand, pausing whatever was playing on his Spotify, "Talk to me, please? I missed you." His eyes soften at your words as he fights with himself not to give in to you too easily, "missed you too," he mumbles as he picks at the skin on his fingers anxiously wanting to spew all the thoughts he's having about the two of you. Together.
Luckily for him, you beat him to it, "I wanna be with you," your words are lost to him at first as he sputters, not truly believing what he's just heard. He hates the way you can read his mind, "Like, seriously, I mean it, but we can't" he shakes his head bitterly, thinking this has to be some sort of sick joke you and Becky had strewn together.
"Do you know how many times I've heard that, y/n? I mean, seriously, tell it to someone else." He sounds so dismissive, and it hurts, but nothing hurts as bad as the sight of tears welling up in his pretty eyes. You just sit there, looking at him blankly with a lump forming in your throat, searching his eyes for something other than what he's said, but you can't seem to find it.
You scoff sliding his phone across the table back to him, "Right, sorry," you nod biting at the skin on the inside of your cheek, you turn on your heels and Arthur hates the look that you give him over your shoulder as you wrap your arms around yourself, like you see right through his attitude into the deeper side of things.
When you return George is wearing the glasses you mistakenly left in now-drunk Becky's purse, faking your accent in the worst way you've ever heard, "Those are prescription, you're gonna hurt your eyes," you sigh shaking your head, doing your best to smile. You pull them away from his face by the bridge, folding them to tuck into the v of your top, "Think 'm gonna get going," you mumble, avoiding everyone's eyes as the laughter dies down.
"So soonnnn?" Becky pouts jutting out her bottom lip for good measure, tucking your phone into your back pocket, murmuring something about how you have to film in the morning. Your friends say goodbye as you go around hugging everyone, when you get to Chris he pulls you in and whispers into your ear, "Take Arthur with you, please? He's bloody miserable." His breath is hot and riddled with the smell of beer as it fans across your face.
From across the room, Arthur feels his blood run hot as Chris whispers something to you and his hand lingers on your waist for longer than he deems friendly or comfortable, rolling his eyes he nibbles at the dry skin on his bottom lip until he begins to notice the familiar metallic taste of blood linger on his tongue. Nothing about this evening was going well and it just seems like lives trying to get back at him for something he doesn't even know he's done.
He was too busy in his own head to notice your presence just next to him, "C'mon, my uber's waiting," nearly falling off his stool as your words snapped him from the trance he was in, "Not up for it tonight," you scoff at his words, of course, he's thinking the opposite of what you had planned.
"Don't want you to fuck me, just wanna spend time with you," His brows raise involuntarily at your bluntness, a smirk playing on his lips, knowing you can't stay away just as much as he, boosts his confidence every damn time.
He doesn't find it in himself to reject you again, simply sliding off the still and interlocking your fingers, hoping to God every one of your friends is watching. As you make it outside your uber is in fact not there, he's about a mile out so you lean against the brick wall, Arthur's close proximity looming over you, "What was Chris on about?" Your drooping eyes shoot open, and the jealousy in his voice makes you smirk, seeing an opportunity to toy with him, just a bit,
"What's it to you," you shoot back, arms crossed over your chest he steps closer suddenly invading your space, his cologne which so happens to be your favorite begins to cloud your nose and mind as your chest rises and falls, adrenaline coursing through your veins. "You know exactly what it is to me, sweetheart."
His thumb and forefinger grip your chin forcing you to meet his eyes, the rings of his hands are cold against your heating face, "If 'm going home with you, I suggest you share." Your breath hitches at the dominance that's suddenly radiating off him, you fight the urge to let your eyes roll back into your head as his breath fans across your face, instead letting them fall closed once more.
You swallow, once more allowing eye contact, "He thought you were miserable and I should take you home with me." The smirk on your face makes Arthur regret ever telling Chris and George about how he'd wanted to spend more time with you. "I want to give this a shot," he scans your face waiting for you to remind him how you shouldn't but you don't say anything else.
"You mean it," his thumb rubs circles on the exposed skin of your hip, you nod, knowing words would betray you, "Need to hear you say it," he sounds breathless, looking at you with hopeful raised eyebrows.
"I wanna be your girlfriend-" his lips meet yours before you can even finish your thought, both hands cupping cupping your face. A wolf whistle comes from your immediate left and he pulls away but doesn't step back, shielding you from view, though you see over his shoulder as both George and Arthur hand Becky what look to be ten-pound notes.

Falsettos unpopular opinions because two people asked for this and honestly I don’t give a fuck anymore. I want to state this isn’t in response to anyone in particular, though, and if you get offended by any of these think about why. For a good reason? Please tell me and I’d love to debate it, truly. For a petty reason? You’re simply part of the problem.
1. They are Jewish. End of story. If I see anything related to Christianity or Christmas or whatever the fuck with them… shut up. Yes Whizzer is half-Jewish, yes in the revival Cordelia isn’t Jewish (WHICH BRINGS ME TO ANOTHER POINT ILL GET INTO LATER), yes they are most likely secular as evidenced by Mendel’s “religions just a trap” and ‘Days Like This’, no this does not give you the right to ignore their ETHNICITY AND CULTURE.
2. It’s okay to like the revival more. It’s not okay to ignore the original just because you get blinded by conventionally attractive men. Going to my Cordelia point, she’s Jewish in the original, her line ‘Shiksa caterer’ is ‘Kosher caterer’. Again it’s fine if your headcanons and fanfics and fanarts are based on the revival, I love it too, but stop acting like it’s the only version.
3. Whizzer’s entire personality does not revolve around being gay. He’s not a sassy twink. He’s a full grown man with issues that need to be addressed. Again, I reiterate, he is not a twink. Stop. Drawing. Him. Skinny. And. Hairless. I don’t care if ‘ oh but but that’s just my art style!’ Shut up.
4. Correlated to the above point, here are things Whizzer is not: a prostitute, a drug addict, relying on Marvin for everything, a twink (saying that again to get it through peoples fucking skulls), innocent. I’m 100% positive if the people who had these headcanons watched the OBC version of the show they’d never continue to advocate for them… once more I’m begging you guys to look past Andy Randy’s beautiful face and actually use critical thinking skills when it comes to Whizzer.
5. Short but (not) sweet: don’t claim to understand Marvin if you haven’t watched In Trousers. Just don’t.
6. If you flat out hate any character in the show, you’re wrong. Yes I’m still mad about the Mendel thing; if you think any one character is worse than the rest and isn’t just a fully human person with flaws and nuance, you don’t understand the musical as well as you claim.
7. It’s not the ‘gay’ musical. If you like falsettos for Whizzvin and nothing else, please, just… I don’t even know. There’s so much more to it than ‘ooo boys kissing.’ Please grow up, this leads into a whole other point but fetishisation is never okay, no matter who does it.
8. So many people treat Trina as either a perfect angel or just the side character in the way of the gay people. She’s an entire person, an entire character with flaws and hardship and terrible actions done by her and to her. Treat my homophobic queen with the respect she deserves, and acknowledge her faults too. It’s more misogynistic to treat her as perfect when she has issues too than just saying ‘she’s never done anything wrong’.
9. Stop making AIDS jokes.
10. This next one is probably the most iffy on the list. I will never be one to police fandom and creation, you can engage with material in any fucking way you like it literally doesn’t matter to me… but I dislike AUs. Now, I’ll always enjoy a little fun, adding in a twist like lesbian Whizzvin, or enjoying a feel good college AU. But. Especially for Falsettos the canon events are so fucking important and cannot be disregarded as casually as some do. AIDS is an extremely important part of the story, as well as the fact that both Marvin and Whizzer are men. I’m trans myself, but I dislike making them so simply because everything about their characters, all the characters, are so highly specific and important to take these aspects away is to disrespect the message of the musical.
11. It’s very important Mendel is straight. I see some people headcanon him as bisexual or trans or so on, and this just feels so wrong to me. Trina and Mendel are straight and that’s why their acceptance and love for the others in the Tight Knit Family is so important, especially Trina struggles with moving away from the idea that these ‘homosexual tendencies’ are wrong. They are straight but they love Whizzvin and the lesbians just as much as anyone else.
12. This one is so petty and I accept that, but… HIS NAME IS NOT MARVIN GARDENS. GARDEN IS A JOKE CHRISTIAN BORLE MADE BASED ON MONOPOLY. Jesus guys please just stop it it’s so stupid, William Finn didn’t have a last name for Marvin on purpose, and though I can’t do more than theorise what that purpose was, Gardens is so stupid. It’s not even funny. Same goes for Cohen, which just is odd. The only name I could begin to accept is Falsetto, and even then… just work around the last name in your fics.
12 1/2. SIDE TANGENT Jason would never take Weisenbachfeld as his last name. As a child of divorce… no. He’ll never view Mendel as a true father over his own dad, especially after Falsettoland, and he wouldn’t take that name. Hell, I’d known my ex step-father since I was two and I’d never have taken his last name. So, please, I never want to see Jason Weisenbachfeld again. That’s just not how it works.
At the end of the day this is just me alone in my room bitching… I just hope these points resonate with others.

So the new Kendrick Song is really interesting to me
Some stray observations under the cut
First: this song is Kendrick explaining himself/defending himself for what he has done and what he's about to do.
He acknowledges that he has really hurt Drake and that there's probably no coming back from that. He thinks it was necessary
He struggles with that action. Because he knows he's acting against his beliefs. During the song he acknowledges the people who criticized him for the beef. He puts them in two categories: outsiders/clowns/industry puppets - > those he won't answer and he wants the gone (with some really violent imagery and he's not saying any names but I get the feeling Kendrick really hates Ak. Like really hates him. And it makes sense. Ak got famous over exploiting the victims of Chicago's gang culture and is a known sexual abuser)
And the others are Christian rappers/commentators (Lecrae, Dee-1...)/and to a degree God himself. And he respects their opinion and will answer them. He defends his pride (which for example Lecrae criticized) as necessary to even survive the spiritual drain that is the industry, he defends his (musical) violence because he wants to protect Hiphop from becoming just another broken and used carcass that Hollywood stole. He admits that he's in his feelings. He admits that he'd rather be peaceful. He prays for enlightenment. He says he sees no other way. And he's about to crash out. He will let the never ending party die.
Be afraid.
Man what a good piece of storytelling.
It makes me afraid for Kendrick. I want good things for him and I get the feeling that the way he's acting he'll get himself or someone else killed or really hurt. But I get the feeling that's how I'm supposed to feel. After all, all of Kendrick songs this year have been rhetorical masterclasses

Hate seeing people say that Transandrophobia isn't real because, in their words, the "androphobia" isn't something people in real life face.
Now. Maybe this is because when I see this opinion, it's attached to someone who is either transfem, AMAB, or who has only ever lived in incredibly liberal areas.
Meaning: They do not have the life experience to speak on that.
It's simple, I can use myself as an easy example: I grew up on the west side of the US. My extended family and parents were very Christian, very conservative. The community I grew up in was in turn the same- very conservative, very Christian, very fundamentalist. Certain Disney movies were banned from the house for featuring witchcraft, or other "morally reprehensible" things. DISNEY MOVIES.
With this background, I'm sure you can tell where this was headed: I can clearly remember being in the pharmacy with my mother. I was small. I saw a lady with what I now know is a pixie cut- incredibly short hair, bright bold pink. Her girlfriend was there, and her own hair was incredibly butch- like they went to a sports clips and asked for what the guy next to them was getting. I was amazed- I'd never seen a woman that looked like that before. I voiced so with awe and wonder to my mother. I was supposed to get a haircut in an hour. "I want that! She looks so pretty and nice"
Who was visibly disgusted. Grabbing me, yanking me away, muttering "no. You don't want to look like that. Let's go."
Fast forward a few years. I'm too young to be drinking a beer, my uncle has stayed up late. We are watching music videos and sharing interests, when we see a rather masc looking woman in a video. He's disgusted. He makes an offhand joke about how she needs to be reminded of her feminine ways. I know what violations he's implying so vividly. He opens up about his fantasy of hatecriming two butch "women" he saw. I'm too afraid to speak.
There's a debate in church. Should women be allowed to wear above the knee shorts? We really didn't like that they can wear pants. Really, the pastor says in his sermon- it's the woman's job to maintain her feminine nature, in opposition to her husband's masculine nature. These blurring lines aren't good for people.
And- I don't want to get into the people I've known who've been hurt, abused, forcefully feminized, beaten for being masculine- the men that feel entitled to their bodies, because they feel entitled to a say in how they present.
The reason you don't see the abuse for being masculine, is because you come from a world where it's widely accepted in ways that not every culture, not every state or country has.
Gnc women, trans men, transmasc nonbinary people- if you're in the wrong place, born to the wrong family, you may never be safe enough to wear pants. You may not be able to cut your hair. Or be anything less than the perfect, ideal woman.
You get punished for not being what you have been assigned. For the act of defiance against others perception, you can be killed.
So, yeah. There's a lot of androphobia. There's a LOT of fear of the masculine. It just comes out in ways you aren't expecting, as someone who hasn't had to experience it. You don't know what to look for. Where to look. It's everywhere but you can be blind to it if you're insulated enough.
Hell- even terfs are falling into severe androphobia. It's their whole motto. What am I, if not a failed woman to them? Mutilating my perfect feminine form? Being a man is the ultimate crime to these people. Are you really telling me JKRs very public campaign hasn't made life hell for ALL of us? We are all losing healthcare due to this.

Mosh Pit
A heavy metal concert was the perfect cover for whatever meeting Cazador was conducting. It was loud, dark and nobody gave a flying shit about what anybody else was doing. Astarion hated it despite the music being good. While Cazador blended into the crowd effortlessly in his chunky boots, long black hair and cloak, Astarion couldn't look any more out of place. A purple top with golden seams, brown trousers that were as tight as skin, boots which had as much gold thread as the top. His role was to draw gazes, people would remember him, not Cazador who was one of many in the crowd.
Whatever the deal was, it wasn't going well judging by Cazador's stony expression. Then there was the gesture towards Astarion and his stomach dropped. He had given up so much, hopes and dreams were not only put on hold, they were actively demolished until all Astarion had left was Cazador. And now he was being beckoned over. Dread filling his stomach, Astarion did as told. Twirled like a piece of meat, smiled when Cazador glared at him. With each passing, assessing look cast his way, Astarion's chest tightened. He couldn't do it. Not even a question of whether he would, he simply couldn't. The last vestiges of himself and his dignity were going to have to be pried out of his cold dead hands. And Cazador was absolutely going to kill him for this. One step back. Two. A flirty smile and turn. And bolt. The crowd was thick, jumping in time, pressed close together but Astarion pushed, shoved, wriggled through any gap he could find to evade Cazador's reaching hand behind him. There! A space! A clear areas to dash through. Astarion stumbled into the suddenly empty area right as Cazador's hand gripped his shirt and pulled. The material was so old, repaired one too many times and it ripped under the strain, sending Astarion sprawling onto the floor.
"Hold!" Someone yelled but Astarion was too busy trying to scramble to his feet while also covering up as much as he could. A pair of worn boots drifted into his view. They were similar to what Cazador wore but were obviously worn in and comfortable, the leather cared for but weathered, buckles no longer reflective from how they'd been scuffed through heavy use. The owner of the boots crouched down and smiled. Eyes crinkled, long brown hair half tied back, Astarion's first thought was that he'd died and the Christians of all people had been right.
"Jesus?"
A t-shirt was draped over him with a laugh as apparently not-Jesus shrugged back into the sleeveless jacket that he'd been tearing over the t-shirt.
"Gale, actually."
There were more feet around them and Astarion sat up, trying to see Cazador in the crowd. He just about saw him, glaring and trying to get past a large woman whose biceps were the size of his head. Despite his glaring and demands, she wasn't budging.
It was only then that Astarion realised how quiet it had gone. The music stopped, a light was being directed towards them.
"Everything alright?" The lead singer asked as she squinted into the crowd.
Hurriedly, Astarion yanked on the offered t-shirt, not even caring that it was sweat damp and cooling.
"All good, Lae," the woman with her back to them hollered back. Next to her a man with a false eye sent a thumbs up over the crowd as he glanced back at Gale and Astarion. In the light, Astarion could just about make out the numerous tattoos that decorated him, and the woman who was guarding him. Turning back to Gale, his tattoos were visible too, arms and chest covered in a variety of patterns.
Once back on his own feet, Gale ushered Astarion to the edge of the clear area. The music picked up again and those who had jumped to Astarion's protection stepped out of the way. Cazador looked livid as he began to march towards them. Only, as Astarion glanced to Gale, he saw the man smile.
"Wall of Death!" Gale roared and the space collapsed as the crowd surged in, smashing into each other. Cazador was swallowed up by them, caught in the frenzy of the mosh pit.
Meanwhile, Gale turned and gestured for Astarion to follow. They took one of the back exits, Gale clearly familiar with the bouncers, nodding to the huge man with half his head covered in a purple tattoo as they passed.
"Are you alright?"
Those were the first words Gale said as soon as they were out in the cold, fresh air. It made Astarion hesitate before trying to brush it all off, "Never better, darling. You were most heroic."
That seemed to put a blush on Gale's face as he looked away. Something darkened in his expression before being replaced by gentle sadness.
"I won't insult you by telling you what to do or that you deserve better. But please know that there are ways out and help is there if you need it." Finally, Gale's eyes met his. "I've been there. You're not alone if you don't want to be."
Which sounded ridiculous to Astarion. He almost scoffed. However, he had tried to run and even he knew that literally running from your supposed friend/landlord/fuck buddy/boss was not the sign of a working, functional or healthy relationship.
For a first meeting, it was an interesting one. Not many people could claim that they met their love when being rescued from a wall of death. There was so much more to Gale, and his group of friends than Astarion had realised of would have even assumed. After all he'd seen, meeting Gale after he finished work was a bit of a shock. Without thick lines of makeup around his eyes and dark lipstick covering his lips, hair done up in a sensible bun, he might as well have been a totally different person. Shirt and tie hid all tattoos and were so far removed from the leather sleeveless jacket that actually didn't have any buttons. He was every inch the professor and not the metalhead with earrings that Astarion had met. Over coffee the tie had come off and the sleeves got rolled up which didn't really help the dissonance of his identity but reassured Astarion that he hadn't accidentally set something up with Gale's identical twin or uncanny lookalike.
"If you thought I was bad, you should see Wyll or Karlach."
Karlach, it turned out, was a children's doctor while Wyll was a banker in the city. Astarion had almost laughed at that until learning that the singer, Lae'zel was a friend of theirs, was a museum curator by day and heavy metal singer by night.
They all welcomed Astarion into their little group. Gale was more than happy to give him lifts on his motorbike which the others only fondly referred to as the 'Dekarios Hog' and laughed while Astarion didn't understand. Shadowheart's snide "he's always got something seriously large between his legs" felt like a jab. Until Astarion learned firsthand that it was the truth.
Rather than focus on his budding friendships and relationship, Astarion found himself figuring out what he liked without Cazador there to mock and judge him. Heavy metal was definitely up there on his list but he couldn't quite bring himself to fully embrace the culture as such. By which he meant that while he looked great in anything, the solid blacks just wasn't his style. Since breaking free of Cazador, Astarion was finding he couldn't stomach the way he'd had to dress before.
"My little pastel goth," Gale teased him gently as they gathered at the cafe near Lae'zel's next concert.
In turn, Astarion could only smile. He wasn't yet used to the jingling of the earrings and had a tendency to fidget with the piercing in his tongue. But mostly, he couldn't wait to take off his pastel pink hoodie to show Gale the tattoo currently wrapped in foil. Much to his surprise, it hadn't hurt, the burn of the needle a calming scratch more than anything else. Perhaps the others had a lovely point about getting so many tattoos. Astarion couldn't wait to catch up.

The amount of effort people go to to justify their hatred of the writing in season 2 is crossing over into delusional territory now.
Here’s the facts: Season 1 was being developed and it wasn’t going well. The writing was bad. So bad Riot shut down production and gave the animation team KDA music videos to work on in the meantime. They hired professional writers in the industry like Amanda Overton to come in and fix things, and then went back into production. At this point there were around 9 writers credited on Season 1. Then sometime around COVID hitting, most of the other writers were let go while Amanda and her team stayed on.
This is all from their own behind the scenes documentary. To me that sounds more like Riot let the bad writers go, and kept the ones who managed to fix the show, right?
But according to people who hate the second season: Season 1 brought in Amanda Overton and her team, but the writing was so bad the hired like 6-7 more writers to fix Christian Linke’s shitty writing and Amanda’s obsessive preference for shipping lesbians. Then when COVID hit, all of the competent writers were let go in favor of keeping Amanda and her team on.
That’s like… the exact opposite of what happened? It’s not even accurate to their own documentary. Like you can watch them talk about what happened. It’s all there in videos on YouTube and are really easy to find.

Note
I hear so many people hating on the Olympics for showing drag queens reenacting the Last Supper. That does seem pretty blasphemous. I'm curious to hear your thoughts about that
The morning after the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, my mom expressed her disgust at drag queens recreating da Vinci’s "Last Supper" and said it’s fine if they don’t believe but they shouldn’t mock others. I had no idea what she was talking about, I watched the opening ceremonies but I missed that. She admitted she didn't notice it either but it was all over her morning news.
Tbh, I figured if she was going to be offended by anything, it would be the multi-racial ménage à trois
Tumblr media
Or possibly the guillotined Marie Antoinette holding her head
Tumblr media
I found online that what she was referring to is what took place on a bridge over the river Seine. There was a table with a red carpet down the middle which served as a catwalk. At the center of the table was seated a woman wearing a silver headdress, surrounded by some drag queens and dozens of dancers and artists. Models featuring fashions from France's most promising young designers walked the runway.
Tumblr media
The specific part of the ceremony that caused the offense was a closeup of the people at the table. The tableau was reportedly based on a painting by Dutch artist Jan Harmensz van Biljert called "Feast of the Gods," painted in 1635, and is housed in the Musée Magnin in Dijon, France. In the painting, the Greek gods on Mount Olympus have a banquet to celebrate the marriage of Thetis and Peleus.
The figure seated at the center of the table is Apollo, being the sun god he has a halo of light around his head.
Tumblr media
One thing I liked is they updated the idea of Apollo with his lute to be portrayed by French DJ Barbara Butch with her equipment. Barbara advocates for several causes, such as acceptance of obese people and lesbian rights. She says her "aim is to unite people, gather humans & share love through music for all of Us to dance & make our hearts beat at unisson! Music sounds better with all of Us!"
Tumblr media
They also had a blue Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, fruit, vegetation, and festivities.
Tumblr media
All that meaning wasn't explained during the broadcast and went over my head, but I guess it makes sense to have a scene in the Olympics that gives a nod to the Greek gods, where the Olympics began, and which is meant to convey celebratory festivities, and is based on a painting housed in a French museum.
Even though there was no iconography like bread, wine, or even a bag of gold coins, having a bunch of folks on one side of the table reminded some people of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" painting.
Tumblr media
The ceremony’s artistic director Thomas Jolly has said it was meant to celebrate diversity and pay tribute to feasting and French gastronomy. "The idea was to create a big pagan party in link with the God of Mount Olympus — and you will never find in me, or in my work, any desire of mocking anyone," Jolly said.
My guess is that if drag queens wanted to portray the Last Supper, they're talented enough that it would've been clear that was the intent.
Even if they meant to portray the "Last Supper," that painting has been recreated in many creative ways and I've never heard anyone upset about it, but maybe in this case they're upset because there were queer people involved. They forget that it is a queer painting, having been done by one of the most famous gay men in history, with one of the characters at the table being modeled on da Vinci's own lover Salaì.
Let's say the Olympic organizers did intend for this scene to be reminiscent of the "Last Supper," I'm good with it. Jesus would invite everyone to have a seat at the table, which is a good message for the Olympics to convey, all are welcome. No person at that table would be excluded from Jesus' table, but there's a number of Christians who would exclude themselves if it meant not having to sit with queer people and others they perceive as sinners, which is ironic since Christianity teaches that we're all sinners.
In summary, I think some people misinterpreted the intention of what was presented, and a group of conservative media types promoted that misinterpretation to cause outrage because that would generate views and clicks. Most people who are angry by this weren't upset when they saw it originally aired, they are furious because they were told that they should be upset about it.

Love Wins All: An Analysis
Here are my notes for the music video. I have more to say, but it's already two in the morning where I live, and I have been sitting here admiring and contemplating IU's artistry since four hours ago. My butt hurts. I will come here later once I let my thoughts marinate.
There's a cube object chasing after them. - The cube is obviously the antagonist of the story. I have no idea why they chose a cube rather than any other creature or shape. Maybe because the design is simple? I think a cube is a smart choice. It looks like human technology, something man-made. The cube may be an invention that was once intended for the benefit of humankind but ended up becoming an instrument for control. The shape of the cube with its equal sides can represent a system that demands conformity.
IU is mute/deaf (she uses sign language), and Taehyung is blind in one eye. - There is one reading by a Korean UAENA about how they represent people with disabilities. There is one cube targeting IU and Taehyung. No other people are shown, but by the end of the music video, we can see several floating cubes outside the building. We can deduce how the cubes may be specifically searching for individuals like them who are marginalized and in hiding.
There is a scene where IU performs on stage, and black figures point their fingers at her. - IU explicitly declared that the song is dedicated to her loved ones, including her fans. We can interpret the black figures as representing people who spread unnecessary hate (혐오) against artists like IU. (Regardless of context, pointing your fingers in Korean culture is considered rude. It is associated with assigning blame or picking out flaws.)
Both the cube and the people in black are forces that persecute and discriminate, respectively. - This reading stems from the fact that IU is a well-known personality in real life and that her character in the story has disabilities.
While there is a male and female lead, the story and the song are not exclusively romantic. LWA is a fan song. Taehyung represents UAENAs.
Tumblr media
While IU sings on stage, he gives her flowers and looks at her adoringly. - They are able to spend moments both happy and sad by each other's side. At the end of the story, Taehyung stands in front of IU to defend her from the cube and destroy it, while IU comforts him and covers his eyes as they're killed.
The camera and the pile of clothes are details prompting an intertextual reading. - This will be familiar to ARMY, but the pile of clothes is an installation by Christian Boltanski. This does not require further explanation since we can infer what it symbolizes from the story's outcome. On the other hand, the camera is something that is more important to the plot than it seems. It captures only the beautiful and healthy appearance of IU and Taehyung. The Korean UAENA I mentioned earlier said that the camera shows an existence where people with disabilities can live happily.
The camera shuts down by the end of the music video. - Nothing is recorded, and the memories are lost. But then, how does "love win all?" Okay, we'll look at the lyrics. "찬찬히 너를 두 눈에 담아 한 번 더 편안히 웃어주렴 (With my eyes, I memorize you thoroughly. Let's laugh in peace once more.)
Artists like IU come and go. - For every single and album she releases, IU writes an introduction. For LWA, she sums up the story as a promise to "fade away together splendidly." Also, the lyrics "필연에게서 도망쳐 Run on" appear, which both mean to run away from (도망쳐, to escape) and to run towards the "inevitable." (Korean is not my first language so pardon me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a mistake with the translation provided in the music video. There, the lyrics say "run away from necessity, run on." They use the word necessity, but she's referring to an event that is certain to occur.)
Memories [of their music and their moments with fans] are all lost to history; what matters is to live in the moment. (You don't need a camera to prove that you existed and lived your life.) This aligns with her values as an artist. In her interviews, IU says her goal is to perform (creation rather than chart success).
You may say that the story is tragic because they both die in the end, but they were at peace since they were together. "일부러 나란히 길 잃은 우리 두 사람" (The two of us, side by side, gone astray on purpose). **Edit: IU Team StarCandy on Twitter translated the phrase 길 잃은 우리 as "[we] who took the road less travelled."
I love the lines "너와 슬퍼지고 싶어 My lover" (I want to be sad with you) and "부서지도록 나를 꼭 안아" (Crush me, wrap me tightly in your arms). It illustrates the relationship between IU as an artist and her fans. The song is a declaration of her intention to cherish the good and bad with us. She does not mind even if the pressure of our love sometimes feels intense. She believes love has the power to break you down, but instead, it builds you up.
Additionally, the line "나와 함께 겁 없이," which is translated as "Will you courageously set with me?" actually more literally translates to "together with me, without fear." There is trust between IU and her lover. In other words, they may not know where the journey leads them, but they consciously choose to walk to it together.
A few more details from the music video that I loved are as follows. I like that the food (the macaron) is connected to memory and joy. It's the end of the world, but they haven't lost their imagination, hope, and ability to delight in each other's presence. In a way, food is crucial to survival in terms of sustenance and because it brings simple pleasure.
After taking a bite, they are transported to a less dreary setting. Their clothes are the same, but they're no longer tattered. Of course, things aren't perfect because while things are more clean, the people themselves remain evil. IU and Taehyung maintain their cheerful disposition even as the black figures appear and surround them.
IU and Taehyung choose to be happy. They dress up and dance around the room despite the reality that everything is still in ruins. (The photo booth is lit in bright, warm colors, while the room outside is cold and blue. Another piece of evidence for this interpretation is that while they're blissfully taking pictures, the strips come out showing Taehyung's milky eyes.)
Tumblr media
I also like the alternative explanation for why IU is deaf, and Taehyung is partially blind. - IU performs happily in front of the crowd of black figures. It may mean that she either cannot hear or will not listen to their words of hate. As for Taehyung, he is partially blind to IU's faults. IU (the idol/artist) is the one leading them as they run while Taehyung (their fan) follows, their hands clasped in each other.
Moreover, neither of them speaks throughout the story. Whether IU is deaf or she signs to avoid making noise and risk their capture, I think it's beautiful that they can communicate through gestures. The relationship between fan and artist goes beyond the need for words (which is ironic, too, since we become fans of IU's music before the artist herself. Through her lyrics, we learn of her personality and how she sees the world).
I LOVE their acting. It's almost scarily good how IU can convey her love through her gaze. The smallest details too!! Her softly tapping Taehyung's shoulder to calm him while he tightly grips her hand as they face death? Chills.
Okay, I'm back. I just want to add this:
I said that the song is not exclusively romantic. However, the element of romance is indeed important to the plot. It elevates the story by depicting people (including those with disabilities) finding love even in the middle of hardship. - Their hardship is not the disability itself but rather the prejudices in the world that limit the possibilities they can enjoy.
IU and Taehyung know that the "end" is "inevitable" (she uses both words in her lyrics), and they know that they can only steal these short moments of happiness, but they still try to "look for the opposite of loneliness" (오랜 외로움 그 반대말을 찾아서).
Trivia: IU says that whenever she's stuck with writing a song, she uses the suggestion of a peer (Kim Eana) to look up the meaning of a word in the dictionary. Thus, giving birth to the idea love = opposite of feeling/being alone.
Love as an act of resistance - Viewing a brighter world through the camera, IU wearing the veil, and the pair teasing the black figures (IU sings on the stage despite their jeering and they run around the room) are acts of resistance. They may have a poor imagination (가난한 상상력), wherein they still desire to become "normal" and without their disabilities, but it is also thanks to their imagination that they are able to endure.
youtube
Note: The translations are mine. It's always difficult to think of how to word sentences that fully preserve the sentiment of the source, especially since they're song lyrics.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A CHAPPELL ROAN HATE POST. I LOVE HER MUSIC AND HOPE SHE KEEPS MAKING IT
With that said, what sticks out to me most in her "I hate both sides, I'm so embarrassed" statement is that the communities who would be most harmed by a second Trump presidency -- queer people and POC -- are the same people from whom she takes creative inspiration, but she refuses to recognize or even acknowledge the real danger they are in.
It's obvious to the trained eye, but much of her stylistic choices are derived from drag , specifically drag queens (who are typically and who historically have been queer people of color, in particular Black people.)
Not convinced? Here's a picture of the famous drag queen Divine
Tumblr media
And here's a picture of Chappell Roan
Tumblr media
Chappell Roan is also incredibly successful; her album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess was the #1 best selling vinyl album in August, and she plays for massive crowds.
Meanwhile, the communities she takes inspiration from often aren't as lucky. Nearly half of Latino transgender adults live in poverty, and about 40% of Black transgender adults live in poverty . Of the 59 transgender people murdered in hate crimes in 2022, 83% of them were people of color, and 54% were Black transgender women.
(This is absolutely not to deny that white cis queer people face harassment -- on the contrary, Roan herself has faced catcalling, stalking, and now has to employ a security team; in her own words, "so lame*. I'm incredibly glad she has security, but also recognize that being able to have security against stalking is in itself a privilege. I digress.)
Now, back to the dangers of a Trump presidency for these communities: I'm sure many of you have heard of Project 2025/whatever they're calling it now, but the tl;dr is that it's a several hundred page document that outlines how Trump should use his second presidency to transform America into an autocratic Christian nationalist state. Not good. You can read it for yourself here. Trump has, multiple times, claimed that he has no idea what it is, but he's very close with several of the key organizers, and, given his track record, is probably lying out his ass.
Among the many horrifying things included in this document (total abortion bans, mass deportation, etc) are plans to completely gut trans rights in the United States, including cutting Medicare funding from hospitals who provide gender-affirming care to adolescents. It would also outlaw "transgender ideology" and provide federal funding for research on anti-trans conversion therapy.
Anyone, anyone could see that a Trump presidency would be absolutely disastrous for trans rights if any of these policies are passed.
But Chappell Roan, the well-off, white, cis Midwesterner?
She's "so embarrassed" by what's going on and "doesn't have a side", effectively throwing the very people whose labor she built her career on under the bus for...what? Leftist virtue signaling? Self-soothing?
Sure, she dedicated her VMA win to them for "fueling pop" , but a dedication won't protect them from hate crimes, or put food on the table, or prevent anti-trans legislation.
And maybe I'm not the right person to say all this, as I'm a white trans man, but it feels very transactional -- I take your culture and get famous, then you don't get my material support because I'm, like, so embarrassed by the neolibs.
Idk. Much to think about.

thanks for the tag @yxtkiwiyxt, i can never resist a classic myspace about me bulletin survey throwback bc i yearn for the days of agonizing over finding the perfect profile song
what's the origin of your blog title?: it's too much pressure to create a witty name, i've used such gripping online usernames as waterbottle, casual-stapler, oldfruit, etc..

OTP(s) + shipname: i just want all of the various fictional ppcu characters for me

what's your love language?: i know it's an innocent question, but i have mad beef with the author of the book about love languages and the christian gender roles perpetuated in the book and lack of empirical research around the concepts, and the creator's homophobia, but i digress (i told y'all i'm fun)

do you only hate HH and HB because you're christian?
Ohh boy, this is going to be a long post.
Let's start with Helluva Boss first. I don't watch it because it's more vulgar. Not that I can't handle swearing, but still more vulgar. I'm more concerned about what I seen from other people who criticize Helluva Boss.
I did listen to some songs just to understand the context while looking at the lyrics as listed. Oh Millie, Vacay to Bonetown, Striker's Song, House of Asmodeus, Cotton Candy, Crashin' a Mutha***in' Wedding, Klown B*tch, 2 Minutes Notice, Just Look My Way (music video version), When I See Him, and Over You. What's interesting about 2 Minutes Notice is that it's supposed to be a one giant middle finger to bad bosses. You know who is the bad boss like Mammon in real life? Vivienne Medrano. She is the bad boss in real life. She burns out her employees because she releases each episode a month or two or three, doesn't pay them a lot of money they needed, doesn't credit the animators, and plays favorites on her employees. Oh and by the way, Spindlehorse outsourced animations from overseas studios.
As for Hazbin Hotel, I hate the show not just because I am a Christian, but because of the controversies of Vivienne Medrano. I see other Christians make videos about the show during its premiere by just showing the 2 minute clip. I was like "That's not enough to convince other people to not watch it, you need to watch the show to if it is satanic." So I watched the pilot, read the prequel comics, watched the ADDICT music video, and finally the show itself.
The one comment that my caught my eye is from ec2003.
Tumblr media
I replied to him back because the "Heaven being a lie" irked me so much.
Tumblr media
Then I made this post why the "Heaven being a lie" part in episode 6 irks me so much
Then I replied with the same message.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Heaven is actually a huge lie this whole time, then there will absolutely be NO SALVATION for everyone Christian and non-Christians and they will only be going to Hell after death.
What's worse is that there are KIDS watching HH.
Now for the fandom, I don't hate the fans of the show who are sane. I just loathe the behavior of the stans in this fandom and Vivienne Medrano...
The fandom drove Shay to suicide and one fan drew on TikTok who drew CSEM (child sexual exploitation material) of SOMEONE'S REAL LIFE YOUNGER BROTHER BACK IN 2022.
This fandom is the absolute worst fandom that I ever seen in existence.

okay so i'm clearly never going to shut up about this fucking musical. anyway, in the first scene between grace and max, he starts out kind of dorky? or embarrassed? like there's the trope of laughing at whatever your crush says, which max does. the line of "can i carry your books for you" isn't delivered like An Alpha Male Bro, it's delivered like he has genuine interest in her. and *then* she rejects him and he goes into "chastity you're breaking my balls" and the "dirty girl" bit. he changes his approach instantly.
to be fair, i don't know which is more genuine (i pretend the former is, because i think dork max is funny). it could be that he tries a "nice guy" approach, because he thinks that'd work, and then slips into his more real attitude because he does want to antagonise her. it also could be that he was initially acting as his true self (you know how you want to talk about everything with your crush), but then switched to his bully persona (he is a bully either way but ykwim) to internally shelter himself from that rejection. "forbidden fruit, dickhole" could be his honest feelings, or it could be that he actually likes her and hates being rejected so easily by such a nerdy prude.
and i mean, don't get it twisted, no matter how much of a dork i consider him to be, that coexists with him being a major asshole and a bully and a figurative monster. he enjoys terrorising people and, despite his father's questionable treatment of him, does have a god complex. I Just Think Jerks Can Have Cute Crushes Too.
grace is a little different. i think that even though he was her sexual awakening, and the first parts we see of her liking him are just him as a hot body, i am of the opinion that she has some interest in him. granted, she isn't depicted to know him that well outside of his looks and status. however i think that his violence has captivated her and she sees that aspect of herself mirrored in him and romantically desires someone who will cultivate that in her. in dirty girl she does imagine him as a christian, and i not only think that makes her feel comfortable in fantising about him, i also think that projection makes her seem to him like a plausible partner
i just. want them to be a hot bisexual murder couple and i will continue to imagine them in that way thank you

Edith Olmstead at The New Republic:
Fans of 11-time Grammy Award–winning singer Dolly Parton came to her aid this week, in response to a tacky, homophobic hit piece published by a right-wing magazine.
The Federalist is a conservative outlet that has previously taken aim at Taylor Swift, accusing her of indoctrinating her listeners into man-hating feminism, a thinly veiled grievance about their inability to control the thoughts of young women. Now it’s taken aim at the Queen of Country herself, likely for much the same reason. The newest article took issue with Parton using her Christian faith as a rationale for her acceptance of all people, including those who identify as LGBTQ+. “Parton’s version of love, which includes condoning immoral sexual behavior, (be who you are she said), is unaligned with God’s vision for humanity,” the author wrote, going on to compare Parton to a secular leader spreading “false gospel.” Trying to cut down such a beloved figure and awarded philanthropist is pretty ridiculous, and especially ironic for a publication that previously published an article pushing for her to be the next president of the United States.
The Federalist’s Ericka Andersen went after Dolly Parton in her column, and she got rightly dinged for blaspheming the good name of Dolly Parton.
