ABSOLUTELY YESSS
You hear that, Leigh? There doesn't even need to be plot.
Just anything that even has cameo of the crows I will read.
Just anything!
Matthias and Jordie bickering in the afterlife
More Nina and Inej girl talk
KANEJ LETTERS OMG
BIANNUAL REUNIONS (I'm a sucker for dinner at the Van Eck mansion ok?)
Kaz complaining about the Crows
The Crows complaining about Kaz
Wylan blowing shit up.
Kaz doing nothing but talking a fucking walk down the street
Jesper dragging them all to Novyi Zem
Chess match between Wylan and Kaz
Jesper and dogs
Kaz and dogs
Jesper and goats
Jes and Nina trying to bake
Wylan sassing the Merchant Council
Getting snowed in
FRICKING WHAT IFS. SIX OF CROWS WHAT IFS
Guys night out
Girls night out
Kaz beating the shit out of someone with his cane (classic)
Kaz and Inej staring at each other....nothing just staring
Leigh Bardugo could write 13 books with the Crows as the main characters doing absolutely NOTHING with no real plot other than them hanging out and bickering with each other–and i would buy and rate 5 stars every single one of them.

Godly Parents: SoC edition
(Lil disclaimer: This is not necessarily PJO's meaning of Godly Parent. It's just basically a "Which God is your godly parent" buzzfeed quiz but with actual information-)
Kaz: Nemesis, Goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. Kaz spent the entire two books and the bigger part of his life holding grudges and planning his revenge on an arrogant man who got away with destroying a bunch of people's lives. He makes it his life mission to make him pay for his crimes.
Inej: Hermes, Messenger of the gods; god of travel, commerce, communication, borders, eloquence, diplomacy and thieves. First of all, Inej is Suli. Suli people are known to be "nomads", travelling from place to place. Second, Kaz hired her to be his spider, to collect and deliver important information, a messenger of some kind. And a detail I particularly liked is the whole thing with the shoes. Hermes most characteristic item are his flying sandals; and Inej is also particularly fond of her climbing leather slippers.
Jesper: Hephaestus, God of the forge, craftsmanship, invention, fire, metallurgy and volcanoes, craftsman of the gods. Yeah, yeah. The obvious reason is in fact because Jesper is a Fabrikator. He literally controls metal. If it's parental issues we're talking about, well, we all know how that went for both of them.
Wylan: Apollo, God of Sun, light, prophecy, philosophy, archery, truth, inspiration, poetry, music, arts, manly beauty, medicine, healing, and plague. "Because of Wylan Van Suns-?" *slap* Shut up, that was literally sarcasm. Wylan's story and latter fate begins because of a music conservatory, and music really played such a big part in his own story as well as his story with Jesper (ehem, piano incident). Also, bit of a fun fact, Apollo is supposedly the creator of the flute so there you go. Another literal thing is that he created a fake plague to help Kaz.
Nina: Hecate, Goddess of the dead's souls, witchcraft and divination. (Matthias would be so happy for the whole witchcraft thing). I don't think I have to elaborate on this one, but just a reminder that Nina can in fact control dead bodies.
Matthias: Hestia, Goddess of the hearth, fire and of the right ordering of domesticity and the family. *Introduces really gut-wrenching line from chapter 40 of Crooked Kingdom about how he finally could go back home*. I know it's kinda ironic that Matthias is from an icy country and Hestia is the Goddess of the fire, but no one said this was a perfect analysis (do I look like Rick Riordan to you?). Matthias was all about family values and homeland really, even if they meant different things at the beginning and at the end of Matthias' story. First it was his bio family, whose death ignited his hatred for the Grisha and his home was Fjerda. But in the end, the Crows became his family, the family he gave his life for, the same way Nina became his home.

If you had to be stuck in an elevator with a YA novel protagonist for 24 hours, which one would you choose? (even if the protagonist has god-like powers, they can't get you out of the elevator before the 24 hours are up)
my rick riordan raised heart wants to say percy jackson but that poor boy would go insane 40 minutes in so I'm actually going with nina zenik because I think she has 24 hours worth of gossip so good that we'd go in as strangers and come out as each others' bridemaids

Your oc summary post is so cool thank you for the delicious content nom nom
What you said about Ari's Judaism got me wondering - is Nina at all religious? ik it works differently in a world where the gods are literally real and can talk to you, so is she someone for whom faith is important, or does she take refuge and comfort in her practice of science?
Very funny you should ask this, because me and my boyfriend have a running joke that everyone in d&d Jewish unless proven otherwise, so Nina actually had a Jewish wedding! Her husband was a carpenter and lumberjack so he built their chuppah!
However, on a more serious note, Nina is not very religious at all, but that comes more from a place of anger than anything else. Mitch has built his own pantheon, with the most important god being called The Father, and the story is that all the other gods in this pantheon are his children. The Church of the Father is the most commonplace, with pretty much everyone worshipping both the Father and another, more specific god in the pantheon. However, the Church of the Father is pretty evangelical, and they are the ones actually in control of the Dimensional Eye, so Nina has a lot of beef with them. We joke as a group that after Nina has taken down the Eye she's going to go on a mission to kill a God, because she's furious that The Father would let such atrocities be committed in his name. It's a lot of grief and misplaced anger at work. She's not wholly averse to the idea of worship, she just doesn't feel she's found a God with whom she aligns.

Juniper Harvey and the Vanishing Kingdom by Nina Varela
Tumblr media
Today's sapphic book of the day is Juniper Harvey and the Vanishing Kingdom by Nina Varela!
Summary: "A thrilling fantasy adventure that explores friendship and queer identity, perfect for fans of Amari and the Night Brothers and Rick Riordan's Trials of Apollo series!
When Juniper Harvey’s family moves to the middle of nowhere in Florida, her entire life is uprooted. As if that's not bad enough, she keeps having dreams about an ancient-looking temple, a terrifying attack, and a mysterious girl who turns into an ivory statue. One night after a disastrous school dance, Juniper draws a portrait of the girl from her dreams and thinks, I wish you were here. The next morning, she wakes up to find the girl in her room…pointing a sword at her throat! The unexpected visitor reveals herself as Galatea, a princess from a magical other world. One problem—her crown is missing, and she needs it in order to return home. Now, it’s up to Juniper to help find the crown, all while navigating a helpless crush on her new companion. And things go from bad to worse when a sinister force starts chasing after the crown too. Packed with adventure and driven by a pitch-perfect voice, this middle grade debut from Nina Varela is about one tween forging new friendships, fighting nightmarish monsters, and importantly, figuring out who she is and who she ultimately wishes to be."
